Cottage in July work tips. Folk weather signs for July

Quite imperceptibly, the first month of summer flew by with business and worries. It's already the middle of the year and summer - July .

The time has come, aroma, picturesque crimson dawns, stuffy starry nights, heat in the morning and rare strong thunderstorms.

July is considered the hottest month and, therefore, I would like to once again remind you of health.

Try not to overheat, do not bother yourself with work in the middle of the day. Most best time for work in July in the garden - morning and evening hours.

And in the afternoon, taking a nap is not a sin ...

Nevertheless, we have enough worries for summer residents in July and we will not relax too much.

So, what do we need to do in the garden in July?

The main thing is watering

In this hot month, watering is very important, and at the same time, abrupt transitions from a lack of moisture to its excess should not be allowed.

Each plant has its own need for water. So, for example, mature trees and shrubs with a well-developed root system need to be watered infrequently, but plentifully.

And recently planted trees, whose roots were cut off during planting, need to be watered more often and at the same time it is imperative to loosen the soil in their trunk circles.

Shrubs with large leaves need more abundant watering than small-leaved ones.

When watering, do not forget that not all plants like it when drops of water fall on leaves and flowers.

So when watering cherries, try to avoid drops on the leaves of the tree, they can provoke the development of coccomycosis. And do not overdo it, because excessive watering for cherries is no less harmful than a lack of moisture. Pour out enough water to soak a half-meter layer of soil, this requires approximately 10-12 buckets of water.

It is best to water the trees not under the trunk, but in a furrow made around the tree along the border of the crown, and it is even more correct to make two rings - the second is 40 cm closer to the trunk. Make the depth of the watering rings small - only 10-15 cm.

To preserve moisture, it is advisable to mulch the soil under the trees or, if the tree is older than 6 years, sow green manure, which is best planted behind the trunk circle.

As green manure, it is best to use plants such as mustard, peas, lupins, phacelia.

For raspberries, too, do not spare water, it can be watered twice a week for 3-4 buckets of water for each meter of row in the raspberries. The berries from this will become much larger.

top dressing

No less useful foliar top dressing mineral fertilizers

We also do not forget about top dressing, because by abundantly watering the plants in the heat, we thereby wash out nutrients from the soil.

If the heat lasts for a long time, the leaves begin to turn pale and even sometimes curl. First of all, we think that they lack moisture and begin to water even more actively.

And the plants may simply no longer have enough nutrition and they just need to be fed with fertilizers.

After harvesting, we carefully process, water and feed the strawberries. Top dressing will ensure the setting of fruit buds for the next year. It is best to feed strawberries with an ash solution at the rate of 500 ml per 1 sq. m.

And raspberries, as a top dressing, love slurry diluted 1:10 or diluted 1:20 bird droppings. Top dressing with organic matter significantly improves the taste of ripening berries.

You can also feed her ready-made fertilizers on the organic basis. It is very important to feed the currants in July, since it is after fruiting that the flower buds of the next year's crop are laid in it. It is best to feed it, of course, with organic matter - fermented grass, diluted 7-10 times, infusion of mullein.

But it is also a good idea to dilute the following fertilizers in a bucket of water: 10 g of urea, 10 g of potassium sulfate, 20 g of superphosphate and feed the currant bushes with this solution.

In the second half of July, at the apple tree, all incoming nutrients move not only to fill the fruit, but also to lay flower buds, and are also collected in the roots and wood.

That is why the apple tree is in great need of feeding this month, and moreover, in phosphorus-potassium. Can be entered into trunk circle apple trees 2 cups of ash, because ash for an apple tree in July is the key to a rich harvest next year.

pruning

Beginning of July auspicious time for small pruning of fruit trees.

At this time, all thickening crown and improperly growing shoots, as well as dry and diseased branches, can be removed, completely without damage to the tree.

It would be nice to do pruning of young fruit trees, as in the first 5 years they need to regularly shorten the shoots that are competitors to the main conductor, as well as cut the tops.

And at the end of winter, it will be necessary to carry out a formative pruning of the crown. Such a spacing of procedures over time will be less painful for a young tree than their simultaneous implementation.

Summer thinning pruning in mature trees contributes to the fact that shoot formation next spring weakens and in a better lit crown, much more fruit buds are formed, the winter hardiness of wood increases and the quality of fruits improves.

To obtain good harvest sea buckthorn, it is necessary to remove the root shoots in July.

What harm, it would seem, can be caused to the mother plant by these weak shoots rising from the ground?

In fact, they take the nutritional juices from the main plant and because of this, the number of berries is significantly reduced.

We cut the shoots directly from the root of the mother plant so that in the future they no longer bother the sea buckthorn. To do this, we rake the ground and cut them off, leaving no stumps. Then we cover the place of the cut with garden pitch, cover the root with earth and water the whole plant.

We are engaged in strawberries

In July, we begin to prepare beds for strawberries and grow planting material.

To do this, we use a mustache, separating them from the mother bushes. At the end of the month, you can already start planting strawberries on prepared beds.

It is best to plant in cloudy weather or in the evening. For planting, we select rosettes with 3-4 leaves with a well-developed root system and a heart. We try to dig seedlings with a small wet clod of earth and immediately plant them.

When planting, we carefully monitor so as not to deepen or raise the heart too much, otherwise in the first case the seedlings will rot, and in the second it may dry out.

The roots must be well straightened and ensured that they are not bent.

What else should not be missed in July?

  • In July, some fruit trees and berry bushes are starting to bear fruit. So let's start collecting and processing black and red currants, early varieties of cherries, gooseberries, raspberries.
  • Immediately after harvesting, we cut out old shoots from currants and gooseberries, thereby freeing up space for young branches. We also remove old stems from raspberries and blackberries, and pinch young shoots to a height of 1 m.
  • We are preparing places for planting new raspberry, currant and gooseberry bushes, if, of course, there is a need for this.
  • We put supports under the branches of fruit trees in order to protect the branches from damage under the weight of the fruit.
  • Watering and feeding vine, we also remove the thickening shoots and leaves that cover the bunches of grapes from the sun.
  • Periodically we check the trapping belts, inspect trees and berries for the presence of diseases and pests, which in July begin to create problems for us.
  • We protect the crop from birds and various pests that encroach on it. In the evenings we collect carrion.
  • We root cuttings of berry and ornamental shrubs. We water and spud shoots bent for reproduction.
  • We regularly weed weeds, remove young shoots, mulch the soil, thereby preserving moisture.

Such work must be done in our garden this month. In the next article, we will discuss the upcoming ones, which are also quite a few.

See you soon, dear friends!

Fig, fig, fig tree - these are all names of the same plant, which we strongly associate with Mediterranean life. Anyone who has ever tasted fig fruits knows how delicious it is. In addition, it can be successfully grown on a plot in middle lane or at home - in a container.

Quite often, difficulties in growing tomato seedlings arise even in experienced summer residents. For some, all seedlings turn out to be elongated and weak, for others, they suddenly begin to fall and die. The thing is that it is difficult to maintain in an apartment ideal conditions for growing seedlings. Seedlings of any plants need to provide a lot of light, sufficient moisture and optimum temperature. What else do you need to know and observe when growing tomato seedlings in an apartment?

Delicious vinaigrette with apple and sauerkraut - a vegetarian salad of boiled and chilled, raw, pickled, salted, pickled vegetables and fruits. The name comes from a French vinegar sauce, olive oil and mustard (vinaigrette). Vinaigrette appeared in Russian cuisine not so long ago, around the beginning of the 19th century, perhaps the recipe was borrowed from Austrian or German cuisine, since the ingredients for the Austrian herring salad are very similar.

When we dreamily touch bright seed bags in our hands, we are sometimes subconsciously sure that we have a prototype of the future plant. We mentally allocate a place for him in the flower garden and look forward to the cherished day of the appearance of the first bud. However, buying seeds does not always guarantee that you will eventually get the desired flower. I would like to draw attention to the reasons why the seeds may not sprout or die at the very beginning of germination.

In this article, I will talk about five different cherry tomatoes that have the sweetest fruits of unusual colors.

I started growing annual flowers in the garden and on the balcony more than 20 years ago, but I will never forget my first petunia, which I planted in the country along the path. Only a couple of decades have passed, but one wonders how different petunias of the past are from today's many-sided hybrids! But in practice, in a city apartment or a private house, this is not so easy to do. Certainly, everyone experienced gardener there is a proven way to grow seedlings. But today we will talk about a relatively new assistant in this matter - the propagator.

The variety of tomato "Sanka" is one of the most popular in Russia. Why? The answer is simple. He is the very first to bear fruit in the garden. Tomatoes ripen when other varieties have not even faded yet. Of course, if you follow the recommendations for growing and make an effort, even a novice grower will get a rich harvest and joy from the process. And so that efforts are not in vain, we advise you to plant high-quality seeds. For example, such as seeds from TM "Agrosuccess".

A task indoor plants in the house - decorate your home with your appearance, create a special atmosphere of comfort. For this we are ready to take care of them regularly. Care is not only watering on time, although this is also important. In the mushroom season, try adding forest mushrooms to the minced meat.

July is a month of some relaxation for gardeners: gardening in july do not require urgency, you can "go with the flow", supporting necessary order and carrying out regular care - watering, weeding, top dressing.

The basic rule of July is do not apply separate nitrogen supplements so as not to cause intensive plant growth by autumn. The composition of complex fertilizers should contain less nitrogen.

Proper watering

July is a hot month and watering is vital. But with any watering - in the garden, flower garden or vegetable garden - try to get the water to the roots, soak the earth to the desired depth.

If you water with watering cans, keep in mind that you need to pour at least 2 watering cans per 1 m2 so that the soil is moistened to a depth of 20 cm. Surface watering is not only useless, but even harmful to many plants.

Do not forget to process tomatoes against late blight, especially in open ground. It is very disappointing when a large crop dies in a matter of days at the end of summer.

To prevent late blight, it is useful to spray tomatoes with a weak solution of iodine. They take half a glass of low-fat milk, dilute it with water to 1 liter, add 1-2 drops of iodine and process the tomato bushes. Repeat treatments during fruit ripening in July - August.

At the end of July, pinch off the stems of the tomatoes, leaving 2 leaves above the last flower cluster. In the morning in the greenhouse, shake the tomatoes by the trellis wire or by the stem for better pollination.

Have a good harvest!

In the previous article, we found out what we need to do, and now it's time to do the garden.

Here we also have a lot of urgent business. In the people, July is called the "sufferer", the crown of summer.

And in the old days they said: “In the summer you will lie down, in the winter you will run with a bag. What you collect in the summer, you will find on the table in the winter. So July is a very busy month in the garden.

Firstly, it is time to harvest the first crops and harvest vegetables for the winter.

Secondly, we must continue the work that we started in June: water, feed, loosen, fight weeds, and also the pests of the disease do not sleep, creating problems for us.

So in July there is a lot of work in the garden.

Plants are asking for water.

Watering is, of course, our main concern. And most of all we are concerned about one very topical issue.

How can we save our landings in such a heat, if we have the opportunity to come to the summer cottage only on weekends?

But even those of us who live in our homes and have the opportunity to water our beds quite often, will not be able to protect them from drying out in extreme heat, but will only wash everything out of the soil. needed by plants nutrients.

What is the way out of this situation? I want to recommend you a few options for maintaining moisture in our beds in this hottest month.

  1. by the most effective method is, of course, use of covering materials. To do this, you can use a regular film or lutrasil, which fit into the aisles immediately after watering. If there is no film, you can use newspapers or just paper. And it is even better to use straw, hay, peat, sawdust as a covering material. Since peat is the cleanest, sterile and lightest substrate with good water retention and absorption capacity, it is the most preferred. Dry needles, chopped reeds are also suitable. Use, in a word, everything that you have at hand. Before the next watering, covering materials (except hay, straw, needles, peat, sawdust) must be removed.
  2. During the hottest period, it is recommended do not weed the beds. Weeds in this situation will become our helpers and give the vegetables a little shade, covering them from scorching rays sun. And although weeds will also take some of the moisture from the soil, this is just the case when we choose the lesser of two evils. But the plants will not completely burn out in the sun, and besides, this measure is temporary.
  3. Soil loosening after watering also helps to conserve moisture. There is even a saying: “It is better to loosen well once than to water badly twice.” It is best to loosen the soil in the morning after evening watering. This will not only prevent the formation of a crust, but also provide the root system of our plants with oxygen.
  4. One more thing Golden Rule glaze:water abundantly and less often (not every day one watering can per garden bed). It is necessary to water the plantings so that the earth gets wet to a depth of 40-60 cm. If we water in small portions, then only upper layer soil and plant roots will not be able to get moisture from the deep layers. This will lead to the formation of weak, high-lying roots, and since the surface layers of the soil most often dry out, then root system plants become very vulnerable.

It is best to water the plants in the morning or evening, but not at night, as it is necessary that drops of moisture have time to evaporate before dusk and do not provoke plant diseases.

Well, we spilled the beds well, put a layer of mulch on top and now we can be calm, our plants will not dry out.

We collect cucumbers

The first mass harvest of cucumbers begins and during this period they are in great need of moisture.

Water the cucumbers when fruiting begins. warm water after 2 days, 10-15 liters per 1 sq. m depending on the weather.

It is better to do top dressing every two weeks. You can feed both complex fertilizer for cucumbers (1 tablespoon per 10 liters of water) and mullein solution.

We carry out top dressing in cloudy weather or in the afternoon. We try to feed cucumbers at the root in order to avoid getting the solution on the leaves and not harm the plant.

Also do not forget about the formation of lashes, the extra ones must be removed.

In the heat, you can spray the leaves of cucumbers, preferably in the morning.

Pepper

Pepper does not tolerate even short-term drying of the soil, and especially it needs moisture during the flowering period of the first and second brushes.

During fruiting, we water the pepper every other day, and in very hot weather it is necessary to water it every day, but in small doses.

If there is not enough moisture, then this will lead to lignification of the stems and the fall of the ovaries, leaves. But pepper also does not like excess moisture.

When the pepper reaches a height of 20 cm, it is advisable to remove the top of the main stem so that the plant begins to branch.

Of the resulting shoots, it will be enough to leave only 5 upper ones, on which the main peppers are formed.

If we want to get a rich and timely harvest, then the formation of a bush must be carried out.

During the period of fruit ripening, pepper must be fed. To do this, prepare a special solution: pour a bucket of mullein into a barrel, add two glasses of nitrophoska, fill the barrel to the top with water, mix well and let the solution brew (5-7 days). Then mix again and feed 1 liter for each plant.

It is also good to feed peppers and wood ash, which must be applied 1 tablespoon under the plant at any time.

tomatoes

For normal fruiting, tomatoes must be watered once a week and the soil must be soaked to a depth of at least 30 cm.

Tomatoes do not tolerate waterlogged air, so they need to provide good ventilation. Constantly ventilate the greenhouse, besides, ventilation contributes to better pollination.

You can feed tomatoes once a week with mineral fertilizers, a solution of mullein or chicken manure, but it is worth looking at the development of the bushes more closely.

And if the fruits do not set, and the greens are well developed, then this means that the tomatoes are overfed with nitrogen.

It is necessary to feed the plant with a solution of superphosphate, diluting 3 tablespoons of it in 10 liters of water. Water the tomatoes with this solution, using 1 liter per bush. Do not forget also stepson tomatoes.

Long stepchildren can be tilted and buried, and the additional roots that appear at the same time will help the plant feed the green mass.

Stepsons can also be used in this way: we remove them and place them in water or a solution with a stimulant, and when they take root, we plant them. You can plant them in place of harvested early ripe crops.

These tomatoes bloom quickly and give an additional crop.

In the second half of July, early-ripening tomatoes growing in the garden are already ripening. Early varieties it is profitable to grow tomatoes, as they ripen before late blight appears.

We collect peas

I advise you not to be late with cleaning sugar peas. You can pluck the shoulder blades even unripe, while they are still green, fleshy and flat with small tender peas.

And dessert peas will be ready for harvest when the peas are fully formed and begin to show through the wings slightly.

It is best to harvest peas early in the morning, as in hot weather, peas wither very quickly and lose sugar.

In mid-July, on a place freed from peas, you can sow early-ripening green vegetables, such as: lettuce, dill, parsley.

Do not let the zucchini overripe

In the second decade of July, we begin collecting young zucchini to prevent them from overgrowing, because the most delicious fruits are no more than 20 cm long and can be eaten even in fresh adding to salads.

Zucchini must be harvested at least 1-2 times a week, otherwise they will lose most of their vitamins.

And if you need seeds for sowing next year, then do not cut the zucchini until it reaches its maximum size.

But do not forget at the same time that hybrids for propagation by seeds are not suitable.

Time to harvest garlic and onions

Let's clean up Luke when there will already be massive yellowing and lodging of leaves. This usually happens from late July to mid-August.

The bulbs are pulled out and shaken off the remnants of the soil. If the weather is good, then they can be left in the garden to dry for several days, and if it is damp, then the onions are transferred under a canopy or in the attic.

Do not let the onion dry out - it will not store well.

Then the dry tops are cut off, leaving necks 3-4 cm long and the bulbs are placed in boxes (baskets, nets) for storage.

At home, onions are stored at a temperature of 18-24 degrees. Bulbs with a diameter of 2.5-3 cm can be left for planting before winter.

After cleaning time garlic must be watched very carefully. After all, if this is not done on time, then its heads will overripe, crumble into cloves and will no longer be suitable for storage.

The sign of ripening is the same as that of onions - yellowing and drying of the leaves.

I also have another sign by which I start cleaning winter garlic. I always leave one or two arrows and watch them. When the arrows are fully extended, this means that the garlic is ripe and it's time to dig it out. This tip has never let me down.

Ripe garlic is dug up and pulled out of the soil, and then dried in the same way as onions.

Leave only mature, clean and dense heads with short dry roots for storage. Pay attention to the fact that the integumentary scales and neck are well dried.

For autumn planting we select the best heads.

Garlic is stored in a dry place at room temperature, but some summer residents store it this way: first, the garlic is placed in a cloth bag, then in a plastic bag and sent to the refrigerator.

And dried garlic can be stored in jars, boxes, covered with millet or dry table salt.

Speeding up pumpkin ripening

Removed at the end of July side shoots on which there are no ovaries.

The remaining shoots, stepping back from the main stem by half a meter, sprinkle with moist earth.

The roots that soon appeared there will give the plant additional nutrition. This will give the pumpkin more strength and its fruits will grow and ripen very quickly.

As well as:

  • We carry out the last thinning of crops of carrots, beets, sprinkling the recesses formed after the removal of excess plants with ash.
  • We start sowing on the vacated beds of turnips, radishes, daikon. We choose the sowing dates in such a way that by the time these vegetables are harvested (end of September - beginning of October), normal, non-overgrown root crops have been formed.
  • You can also sow kohlrabi and chinese cabbage for autumn and winter consumption.
  • To improve the soil, dug out at the site early potato, you can sow spring rapeseed, oilseed radish or white mustard.
  • Re-sow dill, salads, arugula and onions on greens. You can also sow radishes, but he will need to create spring conditions at the time of germination - a short daylight hours. This can be done by covering the plantings with a dark film.
  • Cover the cauliflower heads with the leaves.
  • Carefully loosen the eggplant, as you can damage the powerful roots located near the surface of the earth. Remove the shoots that are located just below the first flowers. It is also advisable to sprinkle the soil with ash as a potash fertilizer once every two weeks.
  • If more than 2-3 fruits are tied on eggplants, then it is better to remove them.
  • We protect potatoes, tomatoes and eggplants from pests and late blight.
  • At the end of July, you can already check whether the potatoes are ripe by carrying out a trial digging.
  • We maintain optimal temperature and humidity in the greenhouse and greenhouse.

Well, dear readers, we found out what we will be doing in July in garden beds. There is a lot to do, isn't it? But let's not forget that we have summer cottages there are many more flowers that also need our attention and our help. Oh, and there will be a next article.

See you soon, dear friends!

What needs to be done in the garden, in flower beds and in the garden in July.

The list of works in the country in July

In July, until the completion of the harvest of berry crops, it is not recommended to use chemicals. The early-summer sanitary complex, which includes the removal of obsolete foliage and mustaches, weeding, loosening and preventive disinfection, can only be carried out on fertile strawberry beds.

Watching over fruit trees, including the discharge of excess ovaries, monitor the appearance of pests, such as the codling moth and the California scale insect. It is recommended to regularly inspect the hunting belts on tree boles, collect and destroy nests and egg-laying of pests, as well as mummified fruits.

While spraying trees, vegetable and berry crops should be covered with cling film.

In July, special attention is paid to vaccinations. They follow the cuttings engrafted in the spring, pinch out unnecessary shoots, tie up the remaining shoots.

In July, green grafting of grapes continues, based on the characteristics of the varieties and the size of the growth of the young vine.

signs of july

If currant leaves “cry” - to rainy weather.

Wild strawberries and blueberries appear - wait for the second harvest of porcini mushrooms.

If the month plays on the shoot - to the harvest of bread.

Allowed to care for plants, digging decorative bulbs, laying compost, harvesting garlic and potatoes (early varieties).

List of works in the garden for July

July is the time to remove excess fruit, especially on apple trees. In order to protect the branches from damage under the weight of the fruit, props are placed under them.

They are engaged in the formation of the crown, cut out the shoots growing inward, remove the fattening ones. In addition, the trees are examined for the presence of diseases and pests, spraying is carried out both for the prevention and destruction of pests. They harvest ripe fruits, destroy carrion, check traps.

To lay the crop for the next year, the trees are fed with bird droppings (1: 10) or complex fertilizer(60 g per 10 liters of water). Top dressing is applied after harvesting the fruits. Consumption - for 1 tree 8 buckets of top dressing. In early July, about 1/3 of the growth that contributes to the growth of buds is cut off from apricots. If the trees are affected by chlorosis, foliar fertilizing with micro- and macroelements is carried out. Mixtures are sold in specialty stores. You can add 20 g potash fertilizer, 50 g of ammonium sulfate, daily infusion of 50 g of superphosphate and 2 g of manganese, as well as ammonium sulfate, molybdenum and zinc. The mixture is diluted in 10 liters of water.

If on stone fruit trees gum has come out, then it is cut with a knife to a living tissue. The cut site is treated with a solution blue vitriol(100 g per 10 l), cover with garden pitch or mullein.

No less useful for fruit trees is foliar top dressing (2 tablespoons of superphosphate and urea, 1 tablespoon of potassium sulfate per 10 liters of water). It is possible to use a complete mineral fertilizer.

It is advisable to mulch the soil under the trees or sow green manure (if the tree is older than 6 years). Siderates are planted behind the trunk circle. Usually planted plants such as lupins, peas, mustard, phacelia.

In the spring, the remains of green manure are added dropwise, which replaces the fertilizer with manure.

garden work in july

In July, dill, daikon, radish, radish, spinach, lettuce, green onion, cucumbers, corn, beets, carrots, asparagus beans, legumes, you can also plant potatoes, i.e. plant everything that was not planted in the spring.

When planting these crops, it is important to pay attention to the ripening time. Late beets and carrots have good keeping quality. You can plant cabbage early dates ripening, then by the middle of autumn it is really possible to get a rich harvest. Growing especially well early cabbage during autumn rains.

July is the time of activation of pests and diseases. It is recommended to periodically look after the plants, carry out preventive actions, destroy diseased and damaged plants.

At the same time, you can start shaping tomato bushes, remove unnecessary stepchildren and leaves that give an extra shadow. Bushes are tied to supports for stability. During flowering, tomatoes are sprayed with 1% Bordeaux mixture or systemic anti-disease drugs. As folk remedy spraying with garlic and ash is used, it helps against late blight. It is important to carry out such spraying when changing weather conditions, for example, when night temperatures drop.

If long stepchildren appeared on the bushes, then they are tilted and added dropwise to make it easier for the plant to feed the green mass, as additional roots will appear. Stepchildren can also be removed and placed in water or a solution with a stimulant. When they take root, they need to be planted. Usually planted after harvesting early ripening crops. Such tomatoes will quickly bloom and produce a crop.

❧ In the area where potatoes grew, tomatoes can be planted, but on condition that the potatoes did not get sick, and after tillage (watering with a solution of potassium permanganate, applying ash and fertilizers).

In July, the leaves are tied over the cauliflower heads. If plants are damaged by pests, they are dusted with ash. As the cabbage grows, the soil is loosened to a depth of 4 cm.
