Features of growing and caring for beets in the open field. Planting and caring for beets - important information every gardener needs

Beetroot is a vegetable that has practically no problems in the garden. Therefore, if you didn’t have it, it means that you made a mistake somewhere.

It is important to sow the seeds on time. Beets are not cold-resistant vegetables, so they are sown two weeks after carrots. Seeds germinate very quickly, so they are not soaked before planting, and shoots appear after 7-10 days.

Beetroot loves the sun but, like most red-leafed vegetables, can tolerate some shade. Most of all, beets like to grow not along the beds, but along the edges of the ridges. Therefore, they usually plant in the center of the ridge cauliflower, and along its edges - beets. This combination allows you to harvest more than with separate plantings.

Beets easily tolerate transplantation. Therefore, the curtains that have risen after sowing can not be thinned out, but seated. At the same time, the central roots of the beets are slightly shortened - this speeds up the setting of root crops.

Beets are planted until two or three true leaves appear on the plants. In more late dates replanting can cause oppression of plants. If you want to get medium-sized root crops of the same size, plant the beets according to the 10x10 cm pattern.

Beets love not only sodium, but also potassium, so in summer it is useful to feed plants with potassium sulfate. Moreover, it is desirable to feed her with this fertilizer once every two weeks. If the growth of the leaves has slowed down, then the plants can be fertilized with a solution of mullein or ammonium nitrate. But here one must be careful, since an excess of nitrogen leads to the appearance of black spots in the root crops.

So that the beets do not grow hollow, it is useful to spray the solution on its leaf. boric acid. Only one or two top dressings are enough per season.

Harvest before frost, otherwise the root crops will be poorly stored. The tops are cut off, leaving stumps 1-2 cm long. But the roots cannot be cut, as the keeping quality of the beets will worsen. It is impossible to leave beets to winter in the soil, like carrots - the crop will simply rot. But the beets lie perfectly in the cellar until spring.

If the weather is wet in autumn, then beets can be affected by downy mildew. Give the disease dry angular spots. To stop its development, plants are treated with Fundazol or Topaz.

The main beet pests are summer and spring flies. They begin to harm during cherry blossom. To protect the crop from it, the plants are watered with a salt solution: 1 cup per 10 liters of water. Beets love sodium and are resistant to chlorine, but flies do not like salt and die.

Choose beet varieties for planting. There's a lot different varieties beets and each has a different growing season. Check the number of days it takes for beets to mature and choose the best one to grow in your area. Once you've chosen a variety, purchase a few packets of seeds of your choice. It is much easier to grow beets from seed as they are difficult to transplant.

  • Beetroot Detroit Dark Red - a classic blood red color, perfect for roasting or simmering.
  • Beetroot Burpee Golden - buttery, delicate in taste and looks beautiful in salads. Golden Beet seeds are a bit finicky, so be sure to take enough seeds in case some don't germinate.
  • Chioggia beets have red and white circles inside when you cut them.
  • Beetroot Early Wonder Tall Top - good variety for choice if you grow beets primarily for greens and not for root crops.

Prepare for planting in spring and fall. Plant beets either in spring or autumn when the weather is cool and the soil temperature is around 10°C. Beets can usually handle one or two frosts (although they should not be exposed to extremely cold weather), but beets do not grow well in hot weather- this leads to tough root crops.

  • To avoid frost, plant beets immediately after the last frost in the spring. Plant in the fall when the weather is cool and regularly below 24°C. There must be at least a month between last landing and the onset of cold, frosty temperatures.
  • Prepare a garden bed or pot. Beets don't need a lot of room to grow, so you can plant them either on small area or in a pot. If you are planting beets in the ground, plow the soil in the garden with a cultivator to a depth of 30 centimeters. There should be no stones on the soil in order for the roots to form properly. Add compost and organic matter to the soil to enrich it. The best soil loose and sandy, with a pH between 6.2 and 7.0.

    • Choose a place with bright sunlight; beets will not grow as well in partial shade.
    • Beet roots thrive best when they have plenty of potassium. You can add bone meal to the soil to provide extra potassium if your soil is not particularly fertile.
  • Plan to plant beets with other vegetables. Beets do not take up much space in the garden, so they get along well with other cool season vegetables. In fact, radishes are planted and harvested earlier than beets, so planting them in a prepared beet garden good way get prepared soil for planting beets. You can also plant beets along with onions, lettuce, cabbage, broccoli, and beans in your garden.

In terms of nutritional value, beets follow carrots and cabbage; many of the dishes loved by everyone (vinaigrettes, borscht, salads, etc.) cannot be imagined without it. The root crop is rich in useful elements and organic acids, its regular use improves the functioning of the intestines, the cardiovascular system, and has a positive effect on the body as a whole. Growing beets in your garden has certain features, which are the subject of the following text.

The beets that we eat are called table beets, botanists attribute them to the haze family. This is biennial plant, the seeds are inside hard dry fruits, from which it is almost impossible to extract them. The fruits are combined into balls and it is they who are sown by gardeners. Each glomerulus gives life to several plants, so the thinning procedure is almost mandatory for beets, otherwise the plants will be crowded.

    Planting dates

For seed germination, a temperature of + 5 ° is sufficient and after 3 weeks you can see the first shoots, at 10 ° it will go faster and sprouts will appear after 10 days, at 15 ° it will take 5-6 days to wait for seedlings, and at a temperature above 20 ° in total - 3-4 days. Knowledge of the effect of temperature on germination will help the gardener better navigate the timing of planting.

The usual time for planting beets is mid-May, but if there are unfavorable weather(protracted cold, for example), then later sowing dates are also acceptable, but then the seeds should be used already prepared. In the absence of weeds, late sown seeds germinate quickly, especially if the weather is warm. Harvest from late landings will not be worse in quantity and quality.

But periods of cooling in the spring have a very negative effect on seedlings, provoke the formation of flowering.

    Table beet planting technology

Table beet is a very valuable food crop, in demand in home gardening and vegetable products popular with consumers. A properly grown root crop has not only an excellent taste, but also a high nutritional value. The technology for preparing seed material and planting is not difficult:

    • before sowing, a mandatory calibration of seeds is carried out with the selection of the largest ones;
    • selected seeds should be subjected to soaking and subsequent germination;
    • good results are obtained by such pre-sowing preparation processes as bubbling and seed coating;
    • experienced gardeners recommend disinfection of seed material in order to obtain healthier and stronger plants.

When using the soaking method, it is recommended to use a dilution mineral fertilizers at the rate of 1/2 teaspoon of nitrophoska or a teaspoon of superphosphate per 1 liter of water. In such a solution, the seed material is kept for a day, after which the beet seeds should be washed in running water. Good result also gives soaking in an organic-mineral mixture, based on components such as 0.1 kg of slaked lime, 0.05 kg of chicken manure, 0.01 kg of urea, as well as a teaspoon of superphosphate and potassium salt.

Seeds prepared for sowing should be placed with a distance of 7-8 cm in previously prepared furrows. The standard distance between rows should be at least 20-25 cm. Many varieties of beets need thinning, which must be taken into account when sowing. Thickened plantings provoke a decrease in yield and unjustified waste of seed material. With too few plantings, low yields are noted. Before sowing, the furrows need plentiful irrigation.

How to choose and prepare a landing site

When choosing a site for sowing seeds of fodder or table beet in early spring period the following recommendations should be followed:

    • For a full increase in the mass of the root crop, a vegetable crop needs good solar lighting and warm, which suggests the location of the ridges on the south side of the site or in a fairly open area.
    • Beets belong to the category of moisture-loving crops, and in order to obtain marketable and large root crops, a vegetable crop should be watered quite often and abundantly, so the site should be in close proximity to a water source.
    • Quite often, gardeners use table beets as a compacting crop for garden crops such as cucumbers, cabbage or beans.
    • It is very important to take into account the criteria for crop rotation, therefore, it is recommended to use carrots, zucchini, onions and nightshade as the optimal predecessors for this vegetable crop.
    • It is necessary to carry out soil replacement or change of garden crops in a timely manner, which will reduce the risk of soil depletion and contamination of the soil with major beet pests or diseases.

For optimal development of root crops, soils are loose, permeable to water and air. Soils in the area allotted for planting fodder or table beets should have a neutral reaction. Very important for spring planting carry out deep digging of the ridges.

In the presence of too acidic soil, add dolomite flour or wood ash at the rate of 1 kg for each square meter landing area. On loamy soils, it is recommended to carry out an autumn application of 300–500 g of superphosphate and 170 g of potassium sulfate per square meter of soil. If the site is represented by sandy or peat soils, then fertilizers should be applied in the spring, about two weeks before sowing the seed. Nitrogen-containing fertilizers are also applied before sowing.

It is very important to remember that planting beets can be carried out not only by direct sowing into the ground, but also by seedlings. It is possible to enrich the soil with useful substances before planting with the help of humus, compost based on plant residues that have rotted sawdust or peat. You should refrain from introducing fresh manure into the beet beds, since such a very powerful source of nitrogen can provoke the accumulation of nitrates in root crops.

    Soil for beets

Proper cultivation The root crop requires frequent and abundant watering during periods when the first shoots appear and then take root, and water is also needed to increase the leaf mass. A well-established culture will endure a short dry period. At the same time, an excess of moisture will impair growth and yield, therefore, on lands where there is a threat of waterlogging, beet cultivation, if carried out, is only on ridges. Optimal Soils for table varieties - medium loamy, loamy and light, in which organic matter is abundant. The culture is considered the most demanding among root crops in terms of soil fertility.

The reaction of the environment, in which one can hope for a good harvest, should be close to neutral.

Beets are recommended to be sown on humus-rich and loose soil with an arable layer of 20-25 cm. In the lowlands, on clay soils and in places where the arable layer is less than 15 cm, beetroot is best grown on ridges approx. 80-100 cm, and having a height of approx. 20 cm. Row spacing should be at least 50 cm.

On soils favorable for beets (sandy, sandy) and other good conditions, it can be grown on flat areas, sowing in strips 100 cm wide, and providing for a passage of at least 40 cm. The main commandment here is to dig the soil to the entire depth of the arable layer, without turning the pre-arable layer (podzol, clay). It is also important to crush and wrap the soil layer well so that the weeds are always at the maximum possible depth.

Ridges are created in the process of spring digging, orienting in a north-south direction. It is important to get a loose soil layer in the ridge, which is achieved with the help of a pitchfork, which break up clods and then level the ridge.

How to prepare beet seeds for sowing

To check the quality of seeds before sowing, they are germinated. At the bottom of a flat small container (saucers, plates), a damp canvas or felt rag, folded in 2 layers, is laid out, 50 (possibly 100) seeds are placed on it, which are covered with another moistened rag. Germinated seeds are selected, their number is fixed at the same time. By the number of germinated seeds from the laid out hundreds, we can conclude what percentage of germination this batch has. Germination in this way is checked for already sorted seeds, i.e. all weak, damaged seeds are previously removed. First class beet seeds usually have 80% germination, which lasts for 3-5 years.

Measures to accelerate the rate of emergence of the first shoots and a quantitative increase in the yield of beets can be used traditional. One way is to soak the seeds in clean water temperature 15-20 °, the duration of the procedure is 1-2 days, while it is recommended to change the water every 2-3 hours.

Apply to the seeds of the culture and the method of germination by moistening, the procedure is similar to that carried out for measuring germination, kept at a temperature of 18-25 ° until the vast majority of seeds germinate, which occurs within 3-4 days. Then the germinated seeds are sown in well-moistened soil.

Even more effective method considered vernalization. Seeds are moistened with water (the ratio is the same for 100 g of seeds by weight of water). The vernalization procedure can be carried out by placing the seeds in a glass or enamel container and filling it with water (first, half the volume). The seeds are stirred and left for 32 hours, after which the remaining water is poured. Withstand another 2-4 days, after which the swollen seeds are moved for 7-10 days in a refrigerator (or just a cold room), scattering on the bottom of the box with a layer of no more than 3 cm in thickness. Vernalization should begin 10-14 days before sowing.

    Features of sowing beets

The seeding rate for a crop is 16-20 g of seeds per 10 square meters. m, 18-20 cm are left between the rows. It is not worth planting the seeds very deep, which is the sin of inexperienced gardeners, since with deep planting the chance of germination is reduced, or the growth rate slows down due to lack of oxygen at such a depth. But it will be a mistake to sow too small, as there will be a risk that the seeds will dry out or be blown away by the wind. The optimal sowing depth depends on the type of soil, on heavy soils, plant 2-3 cm deep, on light ones - 3-4 cm.

Sometimes they resort to transverse sowing of seeds. There is a point of view that transverse rows are easier to maintain. To encourage the germination of sown seeds in the ridge (soil), grooves are made, pressing down on their bottom. Seeds are sown on such a compacted layer of earth, on top of which a half-centimeter layer of soil mixed with humus is poured, it is lightly rammed with the edge of the palm, and another 1-2 cm of humus or peat is poured out, which will protect the grooves from the threat of drying out. And of course, peat or humus mulching of row spacing will also benefit. If sowing is late, then the bottom of the furrow must first be poured abundantly from a watering can and, after soaking the water, sow the seeds and sprinkle with soil.

    Growing seedlings

In order to get a harvest already in April-May, when sowing is just beginning in open ground, you need a greenhouse or, as an alternative, insulated ridges, the construction of which will take less time than building a greenhouse. It's easy to make them. It is necessary to dig a shallow pit, no more than 35 cm deep, and 1-1.5 m wide. Put manure (garbage) in it so that this pile rises 15-20 cm above ground level, fill it with a 15-20 cm layer of earth from above . Heat will be released from the heap for a long time, which will warm the plants. Additional protection materials such as burlap, chemical film, matting, mats, which are laid on bars supported by slabs, will provide from the cold.

The device of insulated ridges is engaged in the first days of April. Sowing usually falls on the period of April 15-30, and seedlings are planted in the second half of May. It takes a month to prepare seedlings. Seedlings are obtained from insulated ridges, sowing beetroot seeds in them, related to early ripe varieties. Seeds must first be soaked or vernalized. The sowing rate in insulated ridges is about 10-15 g per 1 sq. meter.

With the onset of consistently warm weather, the seedlings are moved to the ridges, which should be covered with polyethylene at night, as long as the risk of sudden cold weather remains. Usual rate per 1 sq. meter is about 40-45 plants in the seedling stage, which has already formed 3-4 leaves. Growing with seedlings allows you to get a high-quality beet harvest a few weeks earlier.

    Beet care

Care of the culture needs careful care, it is a rather capricious culture that likes the processing to take place on time. One of the main points is to prevent the appearance of a soil crust. The threat posed by weeds is great, because beets in the first stage, before the formation of 4-6 leaves, have slow growth rates, and weeds, if left untreated, can practically suffocate the sprouts. So strict weed control, maintaining good soil moisture and optimal gas exchange are essential tasks for a beet gardener.

To kill weeds, they are sprayed with a solution of sodium nitrate, which is also useful for plants. The proportions of the solution are 2-3 g of saltpeter / 1 liter of water, this volume is enough for 1 sq. meter. The weeds remaining after such processing will have to be removed manually.

It is important to loosen the soil crust in time (4-6 cm deep), spray with tractor kerosene, (it takes about 40-50 g of kerosene per 1 sq. Meter) and then the weed problem will be solved with minimal use manual labor.

    Watering and fertilizing beets

If it rains rarely, then beets may need 2 generous waterings of 10-20 liters per 1 sq. meter, after which it is necessary to loosen the soil. Water obtained during irrigation will be beneficial if it penetrates to the roots, which lie at a depth of 15-20 cm.

The first top dressing is usually done when the second pair of leaves begins to form in young plants. Dry fertilizers are applied with simultaneous loosening of the row-spacing. Regarding the amount of fertilizer - per 1 sq. meter will need approx. 8 g of potassium salt and 7-9 g of ammonium nitrate. The time of the second feeding comes shortly before the closing of the rows, and loosening is indispensable here. Fertilizers per 1 sq. meter goes a little more - potash fertilizers 16-20 g and 10-15 g of nitrogen supplementation will be required.

    Thinning beets

Like other root crops, beets are sown more densely than is necessary for their normal development. Specially thickened seeding is a measure against poor germination seedlings, damage and death due to bad weather. Densely planted plants rob each other of growth resources, resulting in poor yields and reduced general level products. The roots of beets grown without thinning will be small and crooked.

Therefore, thinning is a measure of first necessity. The first thinning is carried out when the first two full leaves appear on the plant. Leave 2-3 cm between plants in a row. The second thinning should be done when the plants have already developed 5-6 leaves, the gap between the plants is left at 4-6 cm. Finally, the third procedure is carried out until August 15, there are free gaps of 6-8 cm between the plants.

Be sure to follow the timing of thinning, being late with this important procedure threatens with a significant deterioration in the quantity and quality of the crop. It is best to thin out after a recent watering or heavy rain. Wet soil releases uprooted plants more easily, neighboring plants will be less disturbed, and transplanted specimens will more easily take root in already wet ground.

    Planting beets (video)

According to the rules, during the first thinning procedure, the weakest and most unviable plants are removed, and during the second and third thinning, the most developed, large-sized, practically suitable for eating plants are transplanted, and those specimens that show signs of disease are also removed.

Now, guided by our manual for growing beets, it will be easier for you to approach this matter, we wish good harvests And be sure to inform us about your garden achievements.

Beets are not the most capricious vegetable in the world. It grows everywhere, does not require too much attention to itself, pleases us not only with vitamin root crops for borscht and vinaigrettes, but also edible leaves for summer salads and soups. Pleases, but not always and not everyone ...

By planting beet seeds in the garden, each of us expects to get a crop of even, beautiful, bright and (most importantly) sweet root crops. However, beets can be hard, rough, with pale veins and completely tasteless.

How to grow sweet beets? Why does she lose her sugar content? Today we reveal the secrets of growing the most delicious beets.

Beet roots, depending on the variety, contain from 4% to 11% sugars. But these numbers come from proper agricultural practices cultivation, in practice, such factors as:

    • Poor quality seeds. Beets are very easy to pollinate between varieties and species, for this reason many gardeners prefer to buy beet seeds rather than grow their own.
    • Inappropriate soil acidity. In order for the beets to be sweet, the soil in the beds must be slightly alkaline (pH 6.5-7.5).
    • Extreme dryness and hardness of the soil. In the absence of rain, regular watering and loosening of row spacing (or mulching) will be needed.
    • a lack of nutrients. This problem is easily solved with special dressings.
    • Late harvest. Overgrown beets lose most their sugars.

Sweet beets: with manure or without?

To make the beets grow sweet, it is not recommended to add manure to the soil. When the manure decomposes, a lot of nitrogen is released, which, firstly, enhances the growth of tops (then the roots will be small), and secondly, it gives the beets a bitter taste. With an excess of nitrogen, beets grow clumsy, pale, with whitish streaks, so it's better not to risk it.

    Ideal soil for sweet beets

Like all root crops, beets prefer loose, soft, fertile soils. And on acidic soils it usually doesn't work at all. As already noted, optimal values The pH for beets is 6.5 to 7.5. What to do if the soil on the site does not reach these values?

It is good to improve acidic soils by adding ash, eggshell, growing green manure such as lupine.

Excessively alkaline soils are acidified by the introduction of peat, chicken manure, acidic fertilizers (superphosphate, sulfates, ammonium hydrogen phosphate), the cultivation of green manure such as mustard and others.

Growing delicious beets: seed preparation, sowing, thinning

Good seed preparation and correct sowing increase the chances of beets to gain enough sugars during the growing season. Despite the fact that beets grow well in partial shade, root crops will be sweeter in a sunny area.

It is recommended to soak the seeds before sowing (then they will sprout twice as fast, already by 5-7 days). Fertilizer extract is prepared for soaking: 1 teaspoon of superphosphate + 1 tablespoon of ash per liter of water. This mixture is infused for 24 hours and filtered. Then a cloth or a flannel bag is wetted with it, in which beet seeds are placed for a day. The fabric must be kept moist at all times.

From early to mid-May, beets are sown directly into the ground. It is desirable to cover the bed with a non-woven fabric, which keeps the seedlings warm and protects the seedlings from pests. With the appearance of 3-4 leaves in the beets, the shelter can be removed.

Thinning beets is a mandatory procedure. You can’t do it in any way - there are several seeds in each beet seed box, so often 2-3 plants sprout from one place. With the advent of the first true leaf, all unnecessary shoots must be removed.

In mid-July, when small root crops are already starting, one more thinning can be done if the beets grow close to each other. The distance between plants should be at least 10-15 centimeters. Pulled young fresh beets will not be lost: together with the tops, they will greatly diversify your summer salads! And the plants remaining in the garden will be less vulnerable to diseases, they will acquire the correct even shape and size.

How to water beets so that they grow sweet?

You should not be afraid, no supernatural devices for watering beets are required. She, in principle, is not afraid of drought: powerful roots are designed to extract moisture from the depths. Therefore, in dry weather, it is enough to water the beet garden once every three days.

And after watering, it is recommended to loosen the aisles to avoid the formation of a soil crust. Even better with the crust (and at the same time with the retention of moisture in the soil) is mulching. Beets can be mulched with green grass, hay, straw, sawdust mixed with grass.

Top dressing to increase the sugar content of beets

The first two top dressings (at the beginning and at the end of June) contribute to the intensive growth of beets. For them it is impossible better fit.

And 2-3 weeks after the first thinning, the beets are fed with a solution of ash and table salt. Regular, non-iodized salt increases the sugar content of beets. For 10 liters of warm water, add 2 cups of sifted wood ash and 1 tablespoon of salt, mix and water the beetroot bed.

If there is such a trace element as boron in the soil, beets will always be sweet and tasty. As a rule, boron deficiency is observed in waterlogged, sandy and sandy loamy soils, but in any case, once a season it will not hurt to arrange boron top dressing for beets. For its preparation, 10 grams of boric acid are dissolved in 10 liters of water.

In the practice of gardening, there was such a case when a bed with unsweetened beets was fed with a concentrated solution of boric acid (2 tablespoons per 4 liters of water). And the very next day, the root crops became much sweeter.

    Sugar Beets: Does Size Matter?

It is clear that large root crops are much more likely to be fibrous and tasteless than small ones. The most “correct” beet diameter is 5-6 centimeters. To be sure to get a sweet vegetable, dig up the beets after reaching the above parameters.

To a greater extent, the size of the beets depends on the variety. Some varieties grow beautifully to larger sizes without losing palatability. Therefore, it is not superfluous to first study the information on the seed bag, and then decide to what diameter you will grow the beets.

However, it is not worth delaying harvesting until the first frost. Root crops will begin to lose sugar, become a tasty morsel for pests, and when frozen, they will generally lose their ability for long-term storage.

Cabbage juice is the most useful life-giving drink that can give our body a lot of necessary and useful substances. About what beneficial features cabbage juice exist, and how to drink it correctly, we'll talk in our article. Cabbage is one of the healthiest vegetable crops because it has very valuable properties. This product is tasty and nutritious, besides, it is an affordable medicine that everyone can grow in their garden. By eating cabbage, you can eliminate many health problems. Previously, people could not imagine that a person's breakfast could consist of various crispy balls with dried fruits, cereals and milk. But nowadays, such food does not surprise anyone, because such a breakfast is very tasty, and besides, it is easy to prepare. However, such food opens up a lot of controversy and discussion, since it is important for people to know what are the benefits and harms of breakfast cereals for human health. The very concept of dry food appeared in 1863, and James Jackson introduced it. The first food was compressed bran. Even though it was not very tasty, it was a healthy meal. The Kellogg brothers supported the idea of dry food already at the beginning of the twentieth century. At this time, both Americans and Europeans were embraced by the idea of proper and healthy nutrition. At that time, the brothers produced breakfast cereals made from soaked corn kernels passed through rollers. These breakfasts were more like raw dough torn to pieces. They were helped by an accident in which this body was placed on a hot baking sheet and forgotten about it. Thus, the first dry breakfasts were obtained. This idea was taken up by many companies, and the cereal was mixed with nuts. Fruits and other products.

What are the benefits of breakfast cereals?

In the last twenty years, ordinary breakfasts, which consisted of sandwiches and cereals, began to be replaced by dry ones. The main advantage of dry food is, first of all, time saving, which is very important in our time. A full and proper breakfast in our time, few can afford. That is why the main benefit of breakfast cereals is their simple and fast cooking. These breakfasts are easy to prepare. All you have to do is pour the cereal with milk. In addition, milk can be replaced with yogurt or kefir.

During the production of dry breakfasts, all the useful substances of cereals are preserved. For example, corn flakes are saturated with vitamins A and E, while rice flakes contain amino acids that are important for our body. As part of oatmeal includes phosphorus and magnesium. But, unfortunately, not all breakfasts are good for the human body, some of them can be harmful.

Dry breakfasts include snacks, muesli, and cereals. Snacks are balls and pillows of various sizes made from rice, corn, barley, oats and rye. These cereals are steamed under high pressure, in order to preserve the maximum amount of useful trace elements and vitamins. However, with additional heat treatment, such as roasting, the product loses its benefits. When nuts, honey, fruits, chocolate are added to flakes, muesli is obtained. For the production of snacks, ground flakes, as well as various additions to them, are overcooked. More often, snacks are loved by children, so they are produced in the form of different figures. Some manufacturers add various fillings to snacks, including chocolate. However, after adding sugar and various additives to breakfasts, it will no longer be very useful. In this regard, in order to maintain health and figure, it is better to choose raw cereals or muesli with fruits and honey.

    Why dry breakfasts are harmful

by the most harmful product are snacks, since their preparation destroys large quantity useful substances. One serving of such breakfasts contains only about two grams of fiber, while our body needs up to 30 grams of dietary fiber per day. It is more useful to eat unprocessed cereals that have not passed heat treatment. This product will fill the body necessary quantity fiber. Snacks are harmful due to frying, as they become high in calories and fatty.

It is necessary to take into account the high calorie content of dry breakfasts. For example, the calorie content of pillows with filling is about 400 calories, and chocolate balls - 380 calories. Cakes and sweets have a similar calorie content, and this is not healthy. Various additives that are part of dry breakfasts cause more harm. That is why buy raw cereal for children, without various additives. Add honey, nuts, or dried fruits to your breakfast cereal yourself and avoid foods that include sugar substitutes.

Wheat, rice and corn flakes are very easy to digest because they contain simple carbohydrates. This fills the body with energy and provides nutrition to the brain, but excessive consumption of these carbohydrates leads to excess weight.

Dry breakfasts that have undergone heat treatment are very harmful. During the cooking process, the fat or oil used in the cooking process can lead to cardiovascular problems and high cholesterol levels. The composition of breakfasts often includes flavor enhancers, baking powder and flavorings. Avoid purchasing products with such additives.

A child can be given cereal from the age of six, not earlier, since coarse fibers are difficult to digest by the children's intestines.
