Favorite flowers. Oriental lily hybrids exotic beauties

Such lilies have inflorescences reaching thirty-one centimeters in diameter. Oriental hybrids of lilies look great in the cut, growing does not require certain skills and special secrets. It seems today the oriental lily, varieties of lilies, photos, names and descriptions.

landing conditions

  1. The lilies used to create oriental hybrids grow mainly in mountainous areas. Features do not allow moisture to accumulate.
  2. For the purpose of imitation necessary conditions preparing for oriental lilies special compound with drainage. A couple is planted in the hole, the interval between the pits is from thirty to forty centimeters. Planting depth - from ten to fifteen centimeters.
  3. Special condition - soil mix must be fresh, otherwise the lily will not feel too comfortable.
  4. A mixture of a part of fresh peat, part of sand and the same amount of litter is perfect. It will not be superfluous if fine slag is mixed into the soil.
  5. Gardeners achieve good results, oriental lilies in the composition of sand and litter of needles.
  6. lilies do not tolerate.
  7. With frequent rains that wash out the soil, it is necessary to ensure that they are not exposed. In such a case, it is recommended to use coniferous litter, arranging a five-centimeter layer on the bed.

Transplant and reproduction

If all the conditions and cultivation are met, then the lily can not be disturbed for five years. When continuing good growth and the formation of children, the plant can remain in the same place for a longer period.

It is carried out with scales, which are separated from the bulb and planted in boxes filled with earth. The containers are placed in a shady place and watered. AT autumn season children are allowed to move to the ground. The first bloom is most likely in a season.

Requirements for the use of fertilizers

With a good soil composition, lilies are allowed not to be maintained with fertilizer components for up to three years. In other cases, it is recommended to enrich the earth using soluble compounds such as Kemira - Lux. Oriental hybrids of lilies do not tolerate even if it is heavily diluted with water. From it, the bulbs begin to rot.

Carry out three to four procedures, before the flowering period. They begin at a time when the stems of lilies reach a height of ten centimeters.

Lily varieties

reach twenty-five centimeters in diameter, directed to the sides. The height of the plant is a meter and a little.

  • Marco Polo - different pink petals, the period falls on the second part of July.

  • Star Class - the diameter of the inflorescences does not exceed twenty centimeters, the petals are pink from the edges, in the center are white. The height of the stem is one hundred and ten centimeters.

  • Acapulco - cup-shaped inflorescences, not exceeding eighteen centimeters in diameter. The petals are distinguished by waviness of the edges, raspberry-pink tones.

  • Lilium Brasilia - inflorescences of a snow-white tone, highlighted with a pinkish border, have specks of the same color.

Many want to decorate their country cottage area or home flower garden unusual and beautiful plants, they include lily flowers, namely, their oriental hybrids. These crops are grown both in boxes on the balcony and in small floor baths. In a flower bed they are planted close to the edge, thereby creating a beautiful flower arrangement. More about it beautiful flower we will tell further in the article.

Oriental hybrids were obtained by crossing several East Asian species. The brightness of the flowering of these plants can only be observed closer to autumn, when other flowers have already faded. The flowers of hybrid lilies are large and have a pleasant aroma. So, the flowers of some varieties can reach a diameter of 250 mm. Color palette blossoming buds is quite diverse. They can be, for example, white, red or pink.

As for the leaves of lilies of this variety, they are broadly lanceolate. The petioles of most of them are long. Flowers on spreading racemose inflorescences can be located both below and on the side. On some petals, papillae are visible. The shape of the flowers can be star-shaped or turban-shaped (i.e. in the form of a turban or turban). The first in the outer circle have beautiful petals.

It's worth saying that various varieties lilies grow up different heights. In addition, each type of plant has its own individual rules for planting and care. It is also important to properly prepare the culture for wintering. In particular, it will be enough until autumn to simply remove the containers with seedlings in a suitable dry place. For wintering, you can put them in utility room or basement. The main thing is that they maintain a suitable temperature.

bloom different varieties also at different times. So, early views begin to bloom in early August, and late varieties at the end of the same month or at the beginning of September. Old plants should be protected from prolonged rains, because. they can do a lot of damage. To do this, seedlings can be covered with foil or, in general, grown in greenhouses. Besides, high humidity increases the chance of developing a disease such as fusarium.

General rules for planting plants

It takes a long time for hybrids to start flowering after planting. In older varieties, the growing season to flowering is about 130 days. In order for these plants to have time to bloom, the summer must be long enough. Therefore, in our regions it is necessary to protect plants from frost with the help of nonwovens. Do this in mid-spring and early autumn. But new varieties begin to bloom earlier, thanks to which even in our regions they have time to go through a full-fledged vegetation over the summer. At the same time, they can not be covered for the winter.

In general, the first oriental hybrids were simply not suitable for growing in the middle lane. But that has changed thanks to modern technologies which made these lilies more resistant to our conditions. The first flowers from some varieties can be expected already in the second half of July, even if they were planted late.

Of the new varieties, oriental terry lilies are gaining popularity. There are also varieties of this culture that must "take root" on the site for 2-3 years before showing their true beauty. The fact is that their flowers grow so heavy that the stems simply cannot withstand them for the first years. Only after a while they will be able to get stronger. As for the soil, it is important that there is enough humus in it. At the same time, it must be provided good drainage. In such conditions, flowering can be expected in the second half of summer. Otherwise, the cultivation technique is the same as for ordinary lilies. Any varieties of hybrid crops can grow both in the sun and in partial shade, and for a successful wintering, the most important thing is that there is no excess moisture in the soil.

It is better to buy bulbs of Oriental hybrids in February or March. Lilies that will be purchased during this period can be stored until planting at a temperature of + 6 ... + 8 degrees in the refrigerator or in the basement covered with a layer of moist peat. If the seedlings are bought in containers, then they can be transplanted with a clod of earth in the summer, even during the period of active flowering.

Purchasing Oriental hybrids for open ground, it is important to find out how long the vegetation of the plant lasts before flowering. In addition, when buying, you should focus on characteristics the region in which the dacha is located. Yes, for middle lane it will be enough to take plants with a growing season of 90-100 days. Many new varieties have this duration. They usually have an average flower diameter of about 160 mm. For successful cultivation Oriental hybrids need fertile, slightly acidic soil. It is allowed to plant in peaty soil, which is filled with sand and leafy humus. Be sure to do drainage. It is important that the bulbs are not planted in lowlands where moisture can accumulate, as this can damage the seedling.

Choosing a site for planting lilies

Since the stems grow quite tall and the flowers are large, you need to choose a planting site that is protected from the wind. It should be noted that oriental hybrids coexist well with Althea. Alternatively, you can still plant the bulbs in groups in the middle of low shrubs and under fruit trees so that they are in a light shade. In any case, to protect the seedlings from the winter cold, planting should be deep. Above an adult bulb should be a layer of soil equal to a thickness of about two bulb diameters.

Late blooming lilies are best planted in the spring to allow the plants to take root properly. Also, it's best to prepare the bulbs for their first winter. late autumn the culture is mulched with fallen leaves or peat. Then in the spring the lilies will begin to sprout later than usual and, thus, new sprouts will not fall under frost, which is likely in early June. In addition, low shoots are easier to cover.

The flowers of Eastern hybrids are quite large and have a pleasant aroma. The smell emanating from freshly cut flowers is better perceived on fresh air than indoors. To make the flower beds look more stylish and modern next to the Oriental hybrids, it is recommended to plant creeping ornamental crops of small stature. It is also convenient from a practical point of view. So, thanks to such a landing, you can prevent overheating of the earth in the heat. In addition, in winter, these shrubs will trap a layer of snow that plays the role additional insulation for nearby plants. In the spring, they will create frost protection, which is useful for young shoots.

In order for Oriental lilies to grow well, as mentioned above, they need loose and nutritious soil. It is important that moisture does not accumulate between the seedlings. This can occur in heavy and damp soils. Such areas should be loosened and made more breathable before planting. To do this, parts of sand, peat, perlite, vermiculite and other baking powder are added to their composition. It is recommended to add a little more ash. Fresh manure is best not to use at all.

Planting order

Depending on the variety, its height and power, the distance between plantings of the Eastern Line depends. In any case, they should be planted at a distance of at least 200 mm from each other. Thanks to this, the lily will eat well. In addition, this will provide good ventilation to the root system, because it is most prone to the appearance of fungal diseases. It is better not to loosen the soil around the plant during the growth period. Only mulching is allowed. The fact is that there is a chance to disturb young roots located close to the surface. Lily bulbs that were dug up on the site or bought for planting should be planted in as soon as possible, you do not need to dry them, because. they do not yet have their own protective shell. Before planting the bulbs, it is best to soak them in some quality fungicide. Then they should be dried in the shade for a couple of hours. This is necessary in order to eliminate excess moisture that could accumulate on the seedlings. The roots of the plant can then be trimmed a little so that it is more convenient to place the seedling in the planting hole.

If you plan to store the sprouts before planting, then they should be carefully placed in containers, lightly sprinkled with peat, moss or sand. In some cases, sellers and suppliers use dry sawdust for this purpose, obtained from conifers wood, which is not very suitable when the bulbs need to be stored for more than 3 weeks. In general, plant bulbs are stored much worse in sawdust.

Lilies that have not been transplanted should be fed with phosphate-potassium fertilizers in early autumn. In the spring they bring to the site complex top dressing e.g. nitrogen. This should be done when the sprouts have reached a height of at least 100 mm. In the spring at this time, additional roots begin to sprout on the flower stalks of plants, due to which top dressing is absorbed faster. Submit again complex fertilizers follows the beginning of the formation of buds. If the bulbs were planted in August, then autumn top dressing should be eliminated or reduced to a minimum. In this case, it will be enough to add ash to the soil.

Oriental lilies: care

Oriental lilies grow best in full sun or partial shade. It is desirable that abundant solar lighting It was in the morning or in the evening, but this is not necessary. If you need to cut seedlings, then it is best to do this early in the morning, while keeping as many leaves on the stem as possible. Removal more leaves leads to the fact that lilies bloom worse. To prevent mice from harming planted plants, Persian fritillaria, daffodils, or colchicum can be planted next to the beds. AT winter period it is important to remove the fallen snow from the site in time.

Oriental lilies usually reproduce vegetatively and by seed. Each breeding method has its own advantages and disadvantages. But if there is no time for this, then it is easier to purchase bulbs in a special store. To appearance flower beds have become more stylish and refined, it is enough to plant only 3-5 plants.

Culture varieties

Depending on the variety of the flower, four groups of varieties of Oriental lilies are distinguished.

  • The first group includes lilies with flowers elongated shape, for example, varieties such as 'Little Fairies' and 'Viceroy'.
  • The second group includes lilies with cupped varieties, for example, varieties "Africa", "Dusky", "Lavende Lady", the hybrid group Oriental, "Betty", "Crimson Beauty" and "Red Band".
  • The third group is oriental lilies with wide flowers. These include varieties such as Imperial Gold, Imperial Silver, Aurora, Gillion Wallace.
  • The fourth group includes lilies with petals bent back, for example, varieties "Allergo", "Evening", "Potomac" and "Enterprise".

Oriental Lily: photo

Each hybrid has its own.

Some gardeners are hesitant to grow them on their site, they think that they are too tender and capricious compared to Asian varieties. At the lilies of the orient long growing season. Gardeners fear that for this reason the bulbs will not ripen and die during severe frosts.

The experience of many owners of these aristocratic beauties proves the opposite. Oriental lilies have long been popular and are successfully grown by many. New varieties have been developed that bloom in July.

What is the difference between oriental lilies and Asiatic lilies?

Primarily Eastern and Asian lilies different in appearance. At oriental lilies large, almost huge flowers. Asiatic lilies are not as fragrant as Oriental lilies.

But compared to Asian ones, their cultivation requires fulfilling the conditions of detention. If you do not follow some rules, you will not achieve success.

These hybrids are derived from Japanese relatives growing in the mountains. So their cultivation requires a special composition of the soil. More from Asian oni have poor frost resistance. It is also necessary to fertilize them according to a special scheme and only with certain minerals.

Moreover, these lilies demanding to proper watering and lighting in the morning. oriental lilies get sick often viral diseases , they are too gentle compared to their more unpretentious relatives.

Varieties of oriental lilies and their photos

Depending on the shape of the flower and the structure of the bud, the families of oriental lilies are divided into:

Cupped

flat

Chalmoid

When you purchase planting material, keep in mind that different varieties have different growing and flowering periods. Planting varieties on the plot that bloom in different time, you can achieve flowering, pleasing to the eye with its beauty from spring to late summer.

Breeders have bred species adapted to growing in the climatic conditions of the middle zone.

Cassandra

Inside the flower is yellowish white in the center - green veins, the lower half of the petal and the throat are yellowish green; the outer side is yellowish white. Flower diameter: 23.5 cm.

Konka D,or

The flowers are lemon-yellow with black stamens, with a strong smell.

Dizzy

Oriental hybrid. Flowers 20-21 cm in diameter with a wavy edge. The inflorescences are white with a wide crimson stripe and crimson specks. They have a pleasant delicate aroma.

Spetsiosum

Chalmoid, open flowers, petals are bent. Diameter 14-16 cm. Flower color from pure white to red. Inside, the density of the tone is darker, then brightens, and completely white towards the ends.

Henry

Lemon-green at the beginning of flowering, and as it grows, it becomes yellow or orange. Flower diameter is about 22 cm.

Landing and care

Buying bulbs is not a problem, but their choice is especially rich at the end of winter, when the planting time has not yet come. It is better to plant oriental hybrids in August. Therefore, if you have purchased copies you like, take care of their storage.

Store them in the basement, sprinkled with slightly damp sawdust or peat. Make sure that the temperature does not fall below 1-2 degrees Celsius, otherwise they will freeze. Each onion should be wrapped in several layers of newspaper and positioned so that the sprout is at the top.

ATTENTION! If you put it on its side, then the sprout will bend.

In this position, the bulbs are placed in a craft bag. During storage, they are regularly ventilated. Poke small holes in newspapers and bags for ventilation.

If you do not have such storage conditions, you can plant the bulbs to a depth of at least 15 cm in narrow high containers and put them on the windowsill. You will also have to plant the bulb in the pot, which began to wake up ahead of time and gave rise to a sprout (then carefully transplant it into open ground)

When buying, inspect the bulb carefully. It should not show signs of disease or decay. The bulb must be dry, covered with healthy, shiny scales. If it is dull, weeping places are visible on it, refuse to buy: nothing will grow from such material.

Timing

Do it in the spring or in August (depending on the variety). Plant when danger of frost has passed, as even short frosts or insufficiently warmed soil will destroy her.

More right time– august. Oriental lily bulbs do not tolerate dryness. They wither and wrinkle. This affects their growth. If you are planting flower babies from your site, do not hesitate, plant before they dry out.

Place to land

Oriental lilies have beautiful, bright colors and patterns, so they are best placed in a flower bed surrounded by soothing flowers.

Lily should be the main one in their environment. It looks great against the background of shrubs, especially evergreens.

There are certain requirements for landing conditions. Do not arrange lilies next to plants that have powerful roots or an overly bushy structure. Lilies love freedom and airing, so such neighbors will interfere with them.

Arrange them so that half of the stem in front is covered by other plants. Suitable hosts, lavender, stakhis, geranium, hyssop - in general, all cultures with a beautiful leaf rosette. Plant asters, echinacea or phlox behind a row of lilies. After the lilies bloom, their neighbors will fill in the empty space.

ATTENTION! These species love areas that are well heated and lit by the sun. They especially need good light in the morning.

When planting, arrange them so that the garden paths are on the south side. Flowers, when walking in the garden, will be turned towards you.

The area under the lilies should be protected from wind and drafts.

Soil composition and planting depth

They are sensitive to the composition and quality of the soil.. A landing site is prepared at least a week, and preferably 3, before planting. The site is well dug up, peat, humus, ash and mineral fertilizers are added there.

On the square meter add 1 bucket of peat, 1 - sand, half a bucket of humus, 100 gr. superphosphate, 50 gr. potassium phosphate. Oriental lilies love the soil with hyperacidity, do not endure ash.

IMPORTANT! Do not add fresh manure to the ground. This will cause the stems to grow rapidly, and you may never see flowers. In addition, this will contribute to moisture retention, and such conditions are categorically contraindicated for oriental lilies.

Oriental bulbs do not tolerate waterlogging of the soil, so good drainage must be done for planting. Make sure that the place under the lilies is not flooded with water in autumn and spring., choose a non-marshy area, preferably on a slope, so that the water drains from it and does not stagnate.

Before planting, the bulbs are soaked for 20 minutes in a solution of karbofos, then soaked for half an hour in a weak solution of manganese. Old, dry roots are cut off before soaking, so that later they do not rot and infect the bulb.

Roll the bulbs in the sand. Pour sand into the hole so that the bulb is completely immersed in it. Sand will not allow the substrate around the bulb to become too compacted, it will help absorb excess moisture and ventilate.

Planting depth 15-20 cm. To ensure the dryness of the soil, you need to plant them on high beds.

Row spacing is 30 cm.

The soil must be absolutely dry.

So that it does not get wet in the rain, it is covered with waterproof material.

Place arcs over the landings and cover them with a film. The film should also cover the aisles.

For the winter, the area with plantings is covered with a large layer of fallen leaves. In the spring, as soon as the snow melts, the covering layer is removed and the soil is allowed to warm up.

ATTENTION! The arcs are not removed for the winter, in the spring they are again covered with a film so that rainwater does not get into the plantings.

Put poison for mice in the structure so that the bulbs do not suffer from rodents. They can also be planted in a mesh cup without a bottom. The bulb is lowered into it and placed in the hole.

Detailed instructions for planting oriental lilies after winter storage you can see in this video:

Care during the growing season

In the spring, as soon as the first sprouts will appear, the soil is shed with a solution of Bordeaux liquid.

In summer, care consists in watering, but not abundant, but moderate. Watering is done under the root and only in the morning or during the day. After watering, the ground is mulched to retain moisture.

ATTENTION! Sprinkle the soil with light-colored material to protect it from overheating.

The soil is needed loosen regularly so that the bulbs breathe. Do this carefully so as not to damage them.

When buds are tied on the plant, it is shed with ammonium nitrate.

Top dressing of these flowers is necessary throughout the season. 2-3 times they are treated with nitrogen and mineral fertilizers. After flowering, superphosphate is added and potash fertilizers. This helps protect them from disease.

Orientals suffer from fungal diseases, brown spotting. If you notice the first signs of disease - the stems turn yellow and die - immediately begin treatment. They fight this by spraying with preparations "Hom", "Fitosporin".

IMPORTANT! It is also necessary to carefully monitor that pests do not appear on the plants.

The most dangerous is the lily beetle. The larvae eat the buds and leaves. This red-orange beetle is clearly visible on the plant.

They destroy it with special preparations ("Spark", "Fufanon", "Inta-vir", etc.) So that the pest is not used to alternate poisons.

Lily bulbs can eat a bear, thrips, wireworm. To destroy them, “Zemlin”, “Thunder”, “Grizzly” are poured into the holes before landing. They fight them with baits, dusting the soil surface with colloidal sulfur. Aisles can be covered with spruce branches, this is a good preventive measure.

ATTENTION! To protect against pests, the bulb is treated with Bazudin and Neoron preparations before planting. You can find the rules for such processing on the packaging of the drug.

Spraying the aerial parts with these preparations also helps to fight aphids.

To prevent various rots, the planting material is etched with "Fundazol".

When buds appear preventive measure spraying with pesticides from the lily fly. Do not wait until it multiplies, as the flower affected by it will not bloom - the damaged bud will fall off the stem.

You can plant daffodils or hazel grouse next to the lilies, they will scare away mice with their smell. You also need to protect the plantings from other animals that can dig up and eat the bulbs.

With lilies, faded flower stalks should be removed in a timely manner.. After flowering, they stop watering and fertilizing, wait for the stems to dry, and then cut them off and burn them.

IMPORTANT! Don't cut above-ground part immediately after flowering, this will prevent the bulb from preparing for wintering.

In the second half of August, stop feeding oriental lilies.

Mistakes

Here are the most common mistakes:

  1. Too wet land in the plantings. The reason may be incorrect choice plot and irrigation.
  2. Application of unrotted manure. From it, diseases of the bulb develop.
  3. Watering lilies from above. From this, the stem and leaves can become infected with a fungus.
  4. Soil overheating. Bulbs overheat and biological processes are disturbed in them.

Do not make mistakes when growing these flowers, follow simple rules for caring for them, and Oriental beauties will delight you with their abundant flowering and evening fragrance not just one season.

Oriental lily hybrids are considered the most beautiful among other lilies. many people are interested. Their large flowers of wonderful shades with a charming aroma are an example of luxury, bred by breeders. What you need to know about oriental lily hybrids?

"Country hobbies"
Oriental lily hybrids

However, oriental lilies are picky beauties that can grow for several years only in regions with a maritime climate and in lime-free soils.

In all other climatic regions, their splendor lasts only a year or two. Many varieties of oriental lilies are unstable to viruses and fungal diseases.

Therefore, oriental lilies are plants intended for lovers of exceptional beauty.

All varieties of lilies in this large group are the result of crossing with Japanese or East Asian species of lines, such as golden lily, beautiful lily, Japanese lily, reddish lily or Henry lily with its orange turban-shaped flowers.

Many hybrids are classified according to flower shape into tubular-flowered varieties, cuboid-flowered varieties, and turban-flowered varieties.

Conditions for growing hybrids of oriental lilies

Oriental lily hybrids require moist air, a mild climate, a sunny, sheltered place to grow with a shaded base, and lime-free, permeable soil.

Flowerbeds with herbaceous perennials and slightly acidic soil perfect for this type of lily. Plant them in the center or in the background of the flower bed.

Many hybrids do better and bloom longer in a container. For the winter, lilies in a container can be brought into the house. When breeding new varieties, this was taken into account. Appeared undersized varieties lilies, growing only up to 60-80 cm.

Choosing a place for lilies in your area

Oriental lily hybrids

Oriental lilies will be charming, but where would they be better off living?

Oriental lilies have flowers of intense colors and patterns, so they need calm companions to allow lilies to dominate the composition.

Roses are excellent neighbors of oriental lilies. And here you can choose from a variety of colors and varieties.

White and silver gray tones are combined with almost all shades of oriental lilies.

Cimicifuga, white spur, two-tone ragwort and seaside lobularia emphasize the magnificence of oriental lilies.

Light lily flowers will look more luxurious if planted with evergreen shrubs.

Planting oriental lilies

Lilies of the East hybrids

Planting time: spring.

Loosen the ground. Mix it with one shovel of peat and half a handful of complex fertilizers.

If the soil is heavy, then dig a hole 30 cm deep, put 5 cm of sand on its bottom, and fill it with flower land th. Shape the flower soil into a skittle shape.

Before planting oriental lily bulbs, stick a peg into the ground.

To protect the bulbs from voles, wrap them with wire mesh and plant them in the prepared hole at a depth of 15-20 cm.

Carefully fill the hole with flower soil and flatten the soil. Then lightly water the landing site and cover with bark mulch.

Tie growing lilies to a peg. Water in dry weather. After the lilies have finished blooming, stop watering.

Oriental hybrid lilies do well in full sun, but should be shaded at the base. The soil must be permeable, fertilized with humus. Required.

In waterlogged soil, the plant dies. In regions with a harsh climate, it is better to keep lilies in a container: plant them in a flower bed in the summer, and bring them into the house for the winter.

Look for varieties of undersized lilies bred specifically for growing in containers. manifested by the fact that orange or faded brown, moldy spots appear on the leaves. The bulb is not affected. In this case, cut the foliage and spray the lilies with a fungicide.

In spring or autumn, buy light, strong lily bulbs. They should be evenly colored. Do not buy lily bulbs with soft or moldy spots, or bulbs with long shoots that have already sprouted. Thank you! They differ in appearance and conditions of detention. The principles of reproduction are very similar.

When propagating both, all parts of the plant are used.

Flower growers know no more than 30 sections of varieties or so-called lily hybrids. They are the result of interbreeding. wild species. For all their recognizability, they are not similar to each other. For example, oriental and Asian lilies have differences in structure and conditions of detention.

In Russia on household plots Asian hybrids were mainly distributed.

Orientals, like other species, have appeared only recently. Why? The answer is very simple: Asian lilies are very unpretentious, do not require shelter. The winter hardiness of this variety group makes it possible to grow them almost throughout the entire territory of central Russia.

They bloom early, before their relatives from other hybrid groups.

At the end of June, white, cream, burgundy and tricolor Asiatic lilies bloom. The size of this group is from 7 to 15 cm. They can have two flower shapes: cupped and chalmoid. vary in location:

  • horizontal
  • upward looking
  • drooping

Asian hybrids, due to their hardiness, are very common not only in Russia, but throughout the world. About 30% of all lilies are "Asian". They may not endure a harsh winter only in the absence of snow cover. Therefore, in open, ventilated places, they are covered a little.

After the appearance of oriental hybrids in Russia, the accents shifted slightly. Now, getting to know oriental beauties, many pay attention not so much to unpretentiousness in growing conditions, but to the beauty of the flower, its size and aroma. 10 percent of all varieties grown are oriental lilies.

In general, they are much larger and brighter than the "Asians". The palette of their color can be from white to gold, from pink to bright purple. The size of the flower can reach up to 25 cm. All oriental varieties smell pleasant and strong. It is these flowers that look best and are used in cutting to make bouquets. Asian hybrids are mainly used in landscape design and just to decorate the garden.

But, unfortunately, such beauty is not without flaws. Oriental lilies are more delicate. They are not as winter-hardy and are more demanding on soil composition and structure.

If the basic methods of agricultural technology are not observed, they become smaller, degenerate and may even die.

Oriental lilies are not resistant to viruses. This is another important drawback, which does not allow to fully carry out breeding work and be widespread in ordinary suburban areas.

Oriental lilies: varietal groups

Oriental lilies are the result of complex crosses. It is often hard to believe, looking at different varieties, that they belong to the same group. According to the shape of the flower, they are divided into:

  • plants with flowers in the form of a bowl
  • with tubular shapes
  • flowers in which the petals are bent back
  • wide open flowers
  • Lovely Girl. Flowers of this variety can compete in beauty with orchids. They have a huge corrugated flower of rare beauty on a long (80 cm) stem and a heady aroma. Coloring - cream with raspberry spots, blooms in July.
  • Casablanca. Highly tall stem, up to 1.2 m. Huge, 25 cm, boiling white flowers do not have specks, grow 7-9 pieces on one stem.
  • Magic Star. strong plant up to a meter high. Flowers strongly double, up to 20 cm in diameter. Their color is pink, white along the edge, and the spot resembles a star. The speck has the same bright crimson color as the spot.
  • Extravaganza. Very delicate, fragrant and large flowers white color with pink blurred stripes on the petals. The petals are bent, and the specks are slightly brighter than the stripes on them.
  • Barbados. This is tall plant(about a meter) with extraordinary oriental beauty, which brings large buds, simultaneously blooming at the top of the stem. Their diameter is 25 cm, the color is pink with various shades. To the corrugated edge, it turns into pure white, in the center - a bright pink stripe, the color of the speck is deep pink.
  • Pink Perfection. Variety with a tubular flower. About 12 light lilac tubular flowers are located on a tall stem.

Of course, Asiatic lilies cannot compete with such a rare beauty. They amaze not only with their flowers, but also with their aroma. Some varieties begin to exude it only in the evenings. Lilies are good in bouquets. You just need to be prudent with such gifts and not put a vase with fragrant flower to the bedroom.

In the garden, such giant flowers go well with shrubs and tall herbaceous plants. Looks great classic combination: plus lilies. They can be combined in various variations not only in color, but also in shape, height and, in special occasions by smell.

No wonder they decorate eastern temples and palaces. Beautiful women compared with these colors. They are used to prepare food and medicinal supplements.

reproduction

Oriental lilies are not only very beautiful flowers, but also extremely capricious. Many, even experienced gardeners, due to inept cultivation, they lose valuable planting material. In addition, these flowers are quite expensive. That is why you need to learn how to breed them.

How to propagate lilies:

  • seeds
  • scales
  • child bulbs
  • bulbs
  • petioles
  • leaves

The most painstaking of the methods is propagation by seeds. When breeding own seeds not all signs may be transmitted or not transmitted at all. Purchased seeds give some guarantee that exactly what is shown in the picture will grow. But they have a significant disadvantage - they sprout worse than their own.

Reproduction by daughter bulbs occurs immediately after flowering. They are planted on the same or the next day after digging. Bulbs are buried to a depth of 15 cm. This is done so that the bulbs do not freeze in winter.

Lilies can be propagated even by leaves! At the base of each leaf there is the potential necessary for the formation of roots. You can cut off the leaves when cuttings. They are not needed on the planting material (cuttings), therefore they themselves become planting material.

This is not the most successful way of all presented, but you need to try.

We propagate by scales

The scales make tiny bulbs. You need to be patient, because such flowers will bloom only after 3-5 years. And they have unusually at first small size. They are harvested in April-May or autumn. Up to 3 onions can develop on one scale.

Scales propagate not only oriental lilies. For example, Asian breeds are much faster this way. But a lot depends on the characteristics of the variety and the specific one. In many of them, bulbs form on scales.

Reproduction by bulbs

Reproduction by bulbs is similar to reproduction by scales. The size of the bulbs is the same, and the timing of the formation of the plant is similar. Flowering also occurs in 2-3 years. Bulbs are formed in the axils of the leaves.

If they are not collected, then they fall and develop on their own. Of course, not all. There is an unsuccessful self-seeding. The purpose of self-collection: to increase the percentage of survival. Once harvested, they should be planted immediately.

Reproduction by cuttings

Lilies can be propagated by cuttings throughout the summer, but it is better to do this in early June in order to root system has been formed.

For planting, you need to prepare a bed with loose soil, which has a neutral reaction.

Cuttings should be cut only from those plants where there is no bud or at least its development is in its infancy. 3-5 axils are left on one cutting, the leaves are removed, leaving 1-2 upper ones. The lower cut is made oblique, increasing the surface for the formation of roots. Planted in a garden bed, in a wet furrow, at an angle of 45 degrees and sprinkled with dry soil.
