Show beautiful flowers in summer cottages. Colchicum: photos of successful compositions

Beautiful flowers are the decoration of any site. But the annual planning, preparation and work on new flower beds is not an easy and costly business. Therefore, many gardeners make their lives easier and plant perennial unpretentious flowers. They require minimal care, the plant lives from 2 years to several decades (with the condition of timely division of the bush). And in beauty, perennial unpretentious garden flowers are in no way inferior to annuals, and often even surpass them. Well, let's move on to considering the most suitable options.

daffodils

These are reliable, unpretentious cottages that will never let you down. They are bulbous, bloom in early, mid or late spring, depending on the variety. The flowers have a central trumpet (corolla) surrounded by a collar of petals that can be of different hues, such as yellow, orange, white, red and peach. Some varieties have a subtle aroma. The fact that the daffodils woke up, you will know by the thin narrow leaves that will appear from the ground as soon as the sun warms up. They are slightly shorter in length than the flowers.

When buying, choose beautiful healthy bulbs that have not dried out. The first time it is better to plant daffodils before winter, and later divide and plant the bushes at the beginning of summer, when their leaves completely wither. The bulb is buried in the ground by 5-7 cm. For planting, choose sunny or slightly shaded areas.

Further care is very simple: the plant must be well watered during the flowering period, if it lingers, feed. In order for thin stems not to fall from the wind, they sometimes need support. When the buds wither, they need to be cut off.

Day-lily

Another easy to care for plant that looks very impressive. It is undemanding to the soil, almost not affected by pests. Latin name daylily in translation means "one-day beauty", because the bud blooms in the morning and fades at night. But do not worry, there are up to 12 ovaries on one stem, so the plant will delight you with its flowering for several weeks.

Daylily comes in different heights, so it can be used in different ways: in borders, in separate groups or in the background of flower beds.

Gardeners have literally bred thousands of varieties of this plant, which differ not only in the size and color of the flowers, but also in their shape, flowering period. In some species it is longer or occurs twice a season.

daylily care

The plant requires at least 6 hours of direct sunlight, however, in hot regions, flowers with bright colors must be shaded, otherwise they will fade. The soil should be moist but good drainage. It is best to plant a daylily in the spring so that it gets stronger before winter. But if the cold time is severe, then in the first year it is preferable to dig it out or at least cover it well until the heat returns.

Compost the soil generously before planting, leaving enough (30-60 cm) space between seedlings. Deepen the bulb no more than 2-3 cm. In the first year, the daylily is especially demanding on watering, and then it is resistant to difficult conditions.

When you notice that the plant has begun to bloom less, this may be a signal that it has grown too many "babies", it's time to divide it. This usually happens 3-5 years after planting. The operation is also best done in the spring.

irises

If you are looking for perennial, hardy flowers with an interesting bud shape, delicate fragrance and amazing vitality, then these beauties are your best choice.

Irises have three large outer petals that look down and three inner vertical ones. The former may have beards or fluffy combs. They are different colors and sizes.

Most irises bloom once - in early summer. Some, mostly bearded hybrids, are remontant and bloom again a little later.

Irises need a sunny site and well-drained soil. Flowers are planted in the middle - late summer in shallow wide holes. The rhizomes are left open on top or lightly crushed with earth in hot regions. Indeed, unlike bulbs, which need to be buried in the soil, they love sunlight and can rot under a layer of soil.

These hardy perennial flowers are extremely easy to care for. It consists in careful watering, without waterlogging the soil, and fertilizers should not be overdone either. Old flowers are cut off when they have already withered, and the leaves are left - they continue to nourish the root throughout the season. Once every 2-5 years, the bush needs to be divided and seated.

peonies

These are very beautiful unpretentious for giving. Photos of peonies in all their glory inspire their cultivation.

And after the luxurious flowering is over, you will not have a bare flower bed, but a juicy green bush, which will turn reddish-golden in autumn.

A perennial may even outlive you - a peony bush lives up to 10 years. Plants require minimal care, after they are planted in a good place, it is better not to disturb them, they react very painfully to transplantation.

These hardy, perennial flowers need plenty of sunshine and loose, well-draining soil. Peonies are not even afraid of cold winters, because frost contributes to the formation of buds in the spring.

peonies care

For planting, take parts of the rhizome with eyes from an adult (3-5 years old) bush. The timing of the procedure - autumn (September-October), until the first frost. The place should be unshaded, open, protected from the wind. The soil needs to be properly fertilized. The plant is planted in a wide hole with eyes up to a depth of 2.5-5 cm.

After that, as with previous perennials, care is minimal. Fertilize the bush only if you have very poor soil. Water it in time, remove faded buds and cut the foliage for the winter to eliminate the risk of overwintering diseases.

Echinacea

Many in the medicine cabinet have a tincture of this plant. But in gardens, perennial unpretentious flowers are not so common. And in vain, because even in the strongest heat, echinacea will please you with large flowers. Their classic color is purple with a convex brown cone-shaped core, but there are varieties in which the petals are red, yellow, orange or white. Echinacea attracts butterflies and birds with its aroma and grains.

Most often, the plant propagates by seeds that are sown in the spring, loves sunny places and Echinacea should be watered at least once a week. In the spring, fertilizing with compost and mulching should be done. Faded buds need to be cut off not only so that new ones appear more actively, but also to prevent the unauthorized spread of seeds. Divide bushes every 3-4 years. More often, the plant should not be disturbed, it does not like it.

Phloxes

These perennial unpretentious flowers for a flower bed can serve as an example of a spectacular appearance and ease of maintenance. There are a lot of varieties and colors, you can always choose a variety that you like. Phloxes bloom with a bright beautiful ball, which consists of small five-pointed flowers.

Prefer open sunny places, but will tolerate light shade from trees. Propagated by seeds or cuttings.

You need to plant the plant in rich, fertilized soil. Leave about 30 cm between the flowers so that they can grow well and not interfere with each other. Adult flowers are fed with compost and mulch the ground around them. Although garden phlox is a drought tolerant plant (because it comes from field phlox that can withstand harsh conditions), it is recommended to water it at least once a week. For the winter, you should take care of shelter.

The most unpretentious perennial flowers that bloom in autumn

Of course, these are chrysanthemums. In autumn, when everything around begins to wither, they explode with a burst of rapid flowering. They come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors: white, yellow, pink, orange, red, lavender, and bicolor. There are undersized bushes and almost meter giants.

Chrysanthemum can be grown from seeds, by dividing the rhizome, buy ready seedlings or even potted plants. Once every 2-3 years, it is better to transplant them to avoid problems with pests and diseases. The division of the bush is best done in the spring. Depending on its size, this should be done every 3-5 years.

These perennials love unshaded areas with loose, fertilized sandy soil. Subsequent top dressing is optional, but desirable. In order to enhance the formation of flower ovaries, when the sprouts reach 20 cm, they need to be pinched. For the winter, cut the stems to 20 cm and cover.

autumn beauty

If peonies are associated with the last call, then asters are certainly held in high esteem on September 1 and Teacher's Day. Still, because they bloom from the end of August to mid-October, there are different sizes, coloring pages and shapes. Asters are perennial, unpretentious flowers, a photo of a flower bed with them proves how impressive they can look.

The conditions for caring for them are similar to caring for chrysanthemums. After all, both plants belong to the same botanical family - Asteraceae.

Can be grown from seeds that are sown in early spring, and from seedlings, if the spring in your region is cold and protracted. And you can buy adult plants in pots.

Astra loves sunny areas, but can handle a little shading.

The plant should be watered at least once a week, fed with compost every spring and protected from weeds. High grades should be tied up. Pinching the tops also gives good results.

For the winter, the old foliage is completely cut off and the plant is covered.

Once every 2-3 years, the bush needs to be divided so that the aster continues to develop rapidly.

For problem areas

All of the above plants require full sun for optimum development. But what to plant on the north side of the house or under the trees? Pay attention to the hostas - flowers are perennial, unpretentious, while growing well in the shade. Most of all they are valued for beautiful juicy foliage. However, many species will please the gardener with interesting flowers on a high stem, in the form of a funnel or bell, sometimes resembling lilies. Coloring - white, lilac or purple. Blooms from June to October, depending on the variety.

Host Care

It should be noted that not all varieties like a thick shadow. The lighter the color, the more sunlight the plant needs. Therefore, for especially shaded areas, choose varieties with dark, rich green leaves.

The planting hole should be abundantly fertilized with compost. While it requires a lot of moisture, but make sure that it does not stagnate. In the future, hosts will also appreciate timely watering, however, adult flowers tolerate short droughts normally.

Plant care is spring top dressing, protection from slugs and a small shelter for the winter. Hosta grows well in one place for several years, moreover, the bush will reveal its full potential no earlier than 3-6 years after planting. It is not necessary to divide it, only if you want to propagate the plant.

Learn how to create flower beds that bloom all summer, pick flowers for them and take care of plants without spending a lot of time, even novice gardeners can do.

    How to avoid failures in the floral design of the suburban area

    It is not an easy task to ensure that the flower bed blooms throughout the summer season. Taking on this exciting creative work, it is important to know a few rules that will get rid of typical mistakes:

    1. Planting planning in a flower garden should begin with drawing up a flowering schedule for the plants scheduled for planting. In each period of time, at least three names of flowers should bloom in the flower bed.
    2. It is necessary to draw a plan and allocate a place on it for plants that will serve as a constructive basis for a flower bed and a spectacular frame for flowering neighbors: coniferous and deciduous shrubs, perennials with beautiful foliage. In the intervals between spring-flowering plants, place blooming ones in summer, and determine the place of autumn soloists.
    3. It is necessary to group the plants on the plan according to size and color. Take the big ones in the background, place the small ones in front. If the flower bed is overlooked from all sides, tall plants are grouped in the center. Broad-leaved alternate with narrow-leaved and cereals. Different shades of green are selected and distributed over the area of \u200b\u200bthe flower garden.
    4. Everyone has their own color preferences, but the rules for combining colors are common - either addition or contrast. For instance, yellow contrasts with purple, but is complemented by red, orange. Blue is combined with cold pink, lilac, blue. White color is used to dilute too bright color spots, blur borders, soften contrasts.
    5. An approximate calculation of the number of each plant species should be made. It is impossible to plant flowers in separate specimens; homogeneous “spots” are required for a decorative effect. Coniferous and large decorative leafy plants (hosta, rogersia, etc.) can be single.

    1 - sunflower; 2 - carnation Grenoble; 3 - common backache; 4 - subulate phlox; 5 - edelweiss of Soulia; 6 - coreopsis grandiflora; 7 - gaillardia; 8 - meadowsweet yarrow; 9 - oriental poppy; 10 - panicled phlox; 11 - chrysanthemum; 12 - larkspur; 13 - delphinium blue

    Plants for continuous flowering flower beds

    Interchangeable compositions from annuals

    Less complicated, but no less beautiful option for flower beds continuous flowering is a flower garden of annuals. If you plan to grow seedlings with your own hands, work on its creation begins in winter. Most annuals come from the tropics and subtropics and take time to develop before flowering. For example, petunias begin to be sown for seedlings in February. Since March, asters, viola, annual chrysanthemums and dahlias, levkoy, verbena, cornflowers, alissum, lobelia, Snapdragon and others. In April, the turn of seeds of marigolds, cosmea, nasturtium.

    The main secret of a flower bed of annuals is not that they select special flowers that are characteristic of autumn, summer or spring. By creating a conveyor from constantly growing seedlings, you can supply a flower bed with any flowers, regardless of the season. For example, viola or petunia from seedlings can bloom at the end of May and at the end of September.

    There are, of course, seasonal annuals. Autumn flower beds are decorated with fireworks from ornamental cabbage, elegant multi-colored asters.

    Flowerpots with planted annuals make continuous flowering also mobile. If desired, they can be moved around the site - in the recreation area, at the gazebo, porch, pond, entrance, creating different images and moods. Important rule for decorating flowerpots: planting seedlings is done thicker than in a flower garden for a quick acquisition of a decorative look.

    Particular attention should be paid to tuberous begonias. Their long flowering incredibly decorates flower beds. Luxurious inflorescences of modern varieties compete with roses, reminiscent of azaleas and camellias. The tubers that overwintered at home are divided and cut in the spring. For reliable flowering, it is better to purchase new plants annually.

    Flowerbeds with perennials blooming from snow to snow

    The choice of perennials, which make up the compositions that give the first flowers in the snowy thawed patches, delight with colors all summer and leave blooming under the snow, is practically inexhaustible. Here are just a few of the most common and proven perennials that even a novice gardener can handle.

    Spring: primroses, crocuses, blueberries, anemones, muscari, daffodils, tulips, oriental poppy, dicentra, doronicum, lilies of the valley.

    Summer: irises, daylilies, lilies, bluebells, delphiniums, phloxes, astilbes.

    Autumn: perennial asters (New England and New Belgian varieties and hybrids), gelenium, stonecrop, rudbeckia, chrysanthemum, colchicum, sedges, miscanthus, rod millet.

    Plant selection, placement scheme and other secrets of permanent flowering

    Coniferous and decorative deciduous plants are the skeleton of a flower bed, on which flowering elements are then built up. Needles, patterned, carved, smooth, pubescent leaves different shades green colors create a picturesque backdrop. Having laid such a basis for the composition, it remains only to fill it flowering perennials and annuals.

    Spherical, pillow-shaped:

    • mountain pine Pug, Dwarf;
    • thuja western Danica, Golden Globe;
    • pillow spruce Nidiformis, Echiniformis.

    Creeping:

    • juniper Repanda, Green Carpet, Blue Carpet.

    Spreading:

    • juniper Tamariscifolia, Mint julep;
    • mountain pine Pumilio;
    • cedar dwarf.

    No need to fill the flower bed with a large number of conifers. Enough 3-4 copies of different shapes and shades. To support them, you can add 2-3 ornamental shrubs - dwarf forms of barberry, medium-sized spireas.

    Of the decorative deciduous perennials with spectacular foliage, first of all, hosts should be called - dozens of varieties are now offered. No less beautiful are buzulnik, rogersia, bergenia, saber-shaped leaves of irises. Daylilies are versatile - a luxurious fountain of linear green leaves combined with elegant inflorescences of different shades.

    A difficult task - a monochrome composition that blooms all summer

    Every gardener wants to learn how to manage the rainbow of colors that flowers create in their summer cottage. As in the choice of clothes, the interior of any person has color preferences. Someone is closer to a cold palette, someone loves warm flaming tones. Based on color preferences, you can also choose plants for a flower bed that blooms all summer.

    The yellow-orange flowerbed creates the feeling of a sunny day even in cloudy weather:

    • Spring: yellow varieties crocuses, daffodils, yellow and orange tulips;
    • summer: evening primrose (primrose), calendula (marigold), yellow and orange lilies;
    • autumn: gelenium, marigolds, nasturtiums, rudbeckia, ocher-red sedges.

    Pink-purple-blue flower bed - brings freshness, romance into the mood of the garden:

    • spring: muscari, brunner, rose and purple tulips, liverworts, kandyk, crocuses, junos;
    • summer: lilies ( pink tones, such as Triumfator, Enesteisha), delphinium, blue cyanosis, monarda, cornflower, lavatera, ageratum, lobelia;
    • autumn: echinacea purpurea, stonecrop prominent, autumn asters, phlox paniculata.

    White flower bed - tenderness and conciseness:

    • spring: blueberry, daffodils, poultry, lilies of the valley, arabis (rezuha);
    • summer: white lilies, leucanthemum, navel, anafalis (pearl oyster), white varieties of delphinium, bluebell, mallow, lobelia, lavatery;
    • autumn: autumn aster, white echinacea, phlox.

    White flowers will effectively complement silver wormwood, seaside cineraria, white-edged hostas, sedges, periwinkle.

    Care of flowering plants

    Timely weeding, watering, fertilizing and loosening are the elementary truths of country floriculture. A flowerbed of continuous flowering, in addition to well-known care operations, requires the use of some additional techniques:

    • removal of faded inflorescences to prolong flowering;
    • pinching the top for the growth of side shoots with flowers;
    • replanting annuals in the bald spots formed after the death of the leaves, decorating voids with portable flowerpots;
    • timely thinning, division and pruning so that strong competitors do not crowd out weak ones.

    Very often, gardeners think about which of the flowers is better to plant in the country to decorate the site? Which flowers to prefer - annual or perennial, how to choose from the whole variety of seeds beautiful plants those that will decorate the site. Today I will describe (quite a bit) some of them that we plant in flower beds, in flower beds, and also near pergolas and trees.

    Viola (pansies)

    Violas are one of those flowers that (due to their unpretentiousness and beauty) many grow with pleasure. This plant is both annual and biennial. Annuals bloom from the third decade of June to the end of September, and biennials - from the end of May until almost the first frost. Their flowers differ in many shades, can be both one- and two-color.

    Viola welcomes well-lit areas without ignoring semi-shaded areas. This plant loves moisture, is responsive to organic fertilizers (especially manure) and to regular loosening of row spacings.

    Propagating the viola with seeds (you can also seedlings), we sow them immediately in open ground, starting from the time the soil warms up and until the end of June. Shoots that appear after a couple of weeks are best covered from direct sun. At the beginning of autumn, we transplant seedlings into flower beds, keeping a distance of 20 centimeters between seedlings. Viola shelter for the winter is not required at all.

    Annual pansies are sown at the beginning of spring for seedlings, and in the first or second decade of May, we plant the finished seedlings in the place chosen for them in the country.

    Iris

    Blooming irises are a rainbow of various colors in the flower beds. There is a solid number of varieties. Some varieties are propagated by bulbs, others, having thick rhizomes, are propagated by dividing the latter.

    The place for planting these flowers should have sufficient lighting, protected from wind and drafts. But shaded places will not be an obstacle to their flowering. The soil for planting irises prefer loamy and sandy. But on too moist soil, only the marsh species of these plants grows well. Iris bloom run: May-July (marsh, not terry variety).

    You can transplant two weeks after the end of flowering, cutting off shorter green parts, during the summer and until frost.

    Beds under spring planting we prepare irises by mixing the soil with humus and compost. As soon as the ground in the country thaws, we plant the bulbs in open ground. Holes for them: a radius of 20 cm and a depth of 16 cm. If we work with a rhizome, then we make a hole a little larger than its size. We lay, straightening the roots and straightening what is left of the leaves, up. Filled with soil, watered.

    The technology of autumn planting of iris with rhizomes does not differ at all from summer and is produced from late August to mid-October. It is better to cover bearded plant species with branches (straw), protecting them from freezing.

    Reproduction, as well as the rejuvenation of these flowers, is carried out early in the spring and at the end of August. To do this, we clean the prepared bushes from the soil, remove the broken and dead parts, cut the leaves. We divide the rhizome into several parts, disassembling it into planting material.

    Basic plant care in the country: weeding, loosening, frequent watering. It is necessary to fertilize during the season and. Irises are pruned after flowering, as well as before the first frost.

    bells

    Bells that love sunny places grow well in partial shade. Level ground water in the area where these flowers are planted, should not reach their roots - bluebells do not like excessive soil moisture.

    We fertilize and dig the soil before planting flowers, apply organic fertilizers. We transplant bushes either in autumn or spring. We take the bush together with the ground, without damaging the root system. We add water to the wells before and after planting.

    Bluebells with a strong root system can be planted in early April, and weaker bushes are planted only when there is no longer a threat of frost. In autumn, they are planted no later than the first decade of October, so that the bushes take root before the onset of cold weather. Bluebells, like other flowers, are responsive to timely watering, weeding, loosening the soil, fertilizing with fertilizers - organic and mineral water.

    Lily (daylily) Middendorff

    (Sometimes, locally, saranki)

    The lily of this species grows in the shade, so we plant it under fruit trees. The soil for planting is fertile and loose. Daylilies reproduce by either bulbs or scales. It can also be propagated by seeds. They are planted in the middle of summer, and the first shoots appear only in the spring. Such lilies begin to bloom only two or three years after germination. Flowers are planted in country beds or flower beds (but preferably in the shade).

    peonies

    Peonies are perennials growing in bushes. The color scheme is different - from white to maroon. These are rather unpretentious plants, blooming, usually in June.

    By dividing the bush. We subject bushes that have reached the age of 5 years to division. Produce similar reproduction from the beginning of August to the first decade of September. First, we trim the foliage of the bush, then carefully dig it out (we try not to damage the rhizome). Then carefully split the main root ( sharp knife help!) into parts. We transplant each into the hole, having prepared it in advance.

    The place for planting peonies on the site should be sunny and fairly open. We dig holes on the bayonet of a shovel, fill it with a mixture (peat, humus, river sand and soil). You can also add a little ash, superphosphate and vitriol (preferably iron).

    We carefully plant peonies in the prepared holes, while the buds of the plant are not buried below 4 cm from the soil surface. Sprinkle the remaining soil on top of the rhizome and mulch with peat. After planting, the flowers require watering (rather plentiful), and during the season - regular watering, fertilizing, loosening the soil, as well as timely cleaning of weeds. Usually transplanted peonies begin to bloom 3-4 years after planting. Or maybe not at all, and here's why.

    Balsam tall and short

    This annual flower and one and the other height we grow seedlings in open ground. For seedlings, balsam seeds are usually sown in the third decade of February in boxes, with slightly acidic soil prepared in advance. After planting the seeds, we moisten the soil abundantly and, leaving it in a warm place, cover it with glass (film) so that shoots appear faster.

    After almost all the seeds have sprouted, we dive the seedlings. Usually seedlings grow strong by the end of April.

    You can also grow this flower from cuttings. Having cut them, we grow them at home in pots from the end of winter or the beginning of spring. We plant seedlings grown from seeds or cuttings on an open flower bed (end of May-beginning of June), when frosts on the soil come to naught.

    Garden balsam - tall, completely unpretentious plant, which grows well in a country flower bed next to many other flowers (gypsophila, phlox). The best place for cultivation - western or eastern slopes. Due to the fact that balsam does not tolerate excessive moisture in the soil, coolness and drafts, we exclude its planting in a lowland. It is better to fertilize the soil before planting seedlings with humus or compost.

    We water the plant every 3 days after planting, it is better to apply moisture in the evening (we do not water in rainy weather). A couple of times a month we fertilize flowers with potash and nitrogen fertilizers at the same time. We protect the health of balsam by spraying it from pests and diseases.

    Daisies

    Daisies are perennials for any garden. The soil in the area where these flowers grow best is neutral or alkaline, well fertilized and loose. They love a lighted place, protected from drafts. In one place, chamomile can be grown for 6 years, and then transplanted to another place of residence.

    Chamomile can be grown from seedlings. At the same time, we plant the seeds in prepared boxes in the third decade of March, after the appearance of a pair of true leaves, we dive the seedlings. We plant seedlings in open soil in the second decade of May. You can also plant seeds and immediately on a flower bed in the third decade of May, water and cover with a film. The first shoots appear a couple of weeks after planting.

    Reproduction is also carried out by dividing the bushes. A similar procedure is performed every 4 years, in the third decade of August-mid-September.

    Caring for chamomile is extremely simple, for this you should regularly loosen and water the flowers, free from weeds, and also thin out their bushes. Before winter, the ground part of the plant should be cut, leaving only 4-5 cm above ground level. Daisies bloom almost all summer and early autumn (from the beginning of June to the 2nd decade of September).

    Verbena

    The flower is grown mainly seedling method. To do this, we sow the seeds of verbena, using boxes with moistened loose soil (the first decade of March). After sowing, I recommend covering the boxes plastic bags before the first shoots. As a rule, after two weeks the seeds germinate, after that we remove the film, and place the boxes on window sills in direct sunlight. As soon as real foliage appears, we dive the plants into the soil, where we add humus and wood ash.

    The third decade of May - transplanting into open ground, the distance between flowers is about 30 cm. Watering after planting in the country is better in the evening. For better rooting, we press the plants to the ground with the help of hairpins and spud a little.

    We choose a place for verbena in sunny areas, with fairly loose soil. Not very fertile loams are quite suitable. It is drought tolerant and tolerates light frosts well. In fertile soil, verbena only grows and practically does not bloom. The beginning of flowering - June.

    Petunias

    Very beautiful and rather unpretentious flowers. There are several varieties of these plants. They are most often grown by seedlings. You can plant petunia seeds for seedlings both in the third decade of February and in early March. It takes several days for seedlings to emerge. After the appearance of the first true foliage, a dive is required.

    We prepare the soil for planting petunias in open ground. Sandy or loamy soils are best suited, in which organic fertilizers should be applied (except for manure, in order to avoid fungal diseases in it).

    The flower bed on which these flowers will grow in the country should be well lit during the day and protected from drafts. Planting seedlings should be done in the third decade of May (after the spring frosts have ended). It is better to carry it out in the evening or when it is cloudy outside. Landing is carried out along the outer edge of the flower bed, and it is possible over its entire area, if it is small. The plant blooms until late autumn.

    Caring for petunias consists in fairly frequent watering, fertilizing with liquid organic fertilizers with the addition of potassium minerals. We begin similar top dressing of seedlings a week after planting. Next, you need to enter complex fertilizers every decade until about the end of August.

    lilies

    These perennial flowers, numbering many species, are the decoration of any site. These plants are planted with bulbs, and it is necessary to carefully choose the planting material - the bulbs should not have damage, traces of rot. Before planting lilies, we carefully dig up the soil, add humus or fertilizer containing phosphorus and potassium to it. At acidic soil the addition of lime or wood ash will help.

    We plant bulbs (August-September) at a distance of a quarter meter from each other. Lilies are desirable to grow in open, well-lit areas. Basically, these flowers do not require shelter before frost. And for shelter, you can use sawdust, hay or old branches. As soon as the snow leaves, all insulation must be removed quickly. Lilies bloom next year.

    They are planted in spring time. But, at the same time, separately from those specimens that were planted in September, since in spring, during care, these flowers are watered more and more often than those planted in autumn. Care consists in fairly frequent watering, loosening the soil around the flowers, and removing weeds. From pests we mulch the soil with ash.

    Gladiolus

    Another perennial flower for decorating a summer cottage or any other area is a gladiolus. Now it is very difficult to name at least an approximate number of its varieties. And their colors are different too.

    When planting and caring for gladioli, remember that:

    • we don’t plant them in one place for more than two seasons, the place should be sunny (shade, preferably excluded), with a slight draft (from fungal diseases) we plant the “children” in front of the adult bulbs (for their sufficient illumination),
    • transplant them, preferably on different soils(if the soil in which these flowers grow is sandy, then it is necessary to spray the plants with fertilizers),
    • we purchase gladiolus bulbs adapted to the local climate,
    • watering should be done abundantly, but once every 7 days. Only in extreme heat is it possible to moisten the soil every day after 19 hours, combining this procedure with loosening and removing weeds. You can also spud gladioli,
    • bulbs require reduced temperature and humidity when stored in the winter, which determines how they will grow and bloom in the next season.

    dahlias

    We grow these perennial flowers on any type of soil, most importantly, it needs to be constantly loosened. River sand or peat should be added to loam or other dense soil so that the tubers do not tear. A day or two before planting, we take out the dahlia tubers from the basement and, if necessary, divide them (do not forget to treat the sections with ash). There should be three tubers in one part, they will give several strong stems in the future.

    If we totally observe the agricultural technology of growing these flowers, then we get dahlias from the basement (cellar) three weeks before planting in the ground. Pour sawdust into a wide container, into which we place the tubers. Top cover with a covering nonwoven fabric. We water sawdust every few days. It is desirable to install the container in a sunny place. We plant dahlia tubers on the ground when the frosts on the soil are over.

    Given the exactingness of flowers to moisture, we water more often. In order to avoid rapid evaporation of moisture, we mulch the ground near the plantings. Water the plants only in the evening when the heat subsides. Withering flowers are cut off to stimulate the growth of new ones. For excellent flowering, we form dahlia bushes into four or five trunks.

    They require regular feeding, which helps them fight diseases and pests. At the beginning of summer, we spray the leaves with urea or a solution of mullein. Foliar top dressing (preferably once a week) is done when there is no rain or cloudy weather.

    Phlox (annual and perennial)

    Phloxes (in different regions) bloom on the site from May to the last decade of September. It is quite possible to ensure this if you know how to grow such flowers correctly. These perennials can be propagated either by cuttings or by layering, or by dividing the bushes. But we grow annual phloxes from seeds.

    As the earth warms up, you can make beds and sow (withstanding 30 cm) seeds of annuals in them. We scatter them in the garden (withstanding 30 cm from each other), without sprinkling soil on top, but simply covering them with any covering material. when the first shoots appear, we remove the material.

    But you can grow such phlox and seedlings. Seeds are planted in boxes (early March). After the appearance of the first shoots, you need to organize regular watering, lighting and room temperature. As shoots appear, we dive. After that, you should not keep the plants under direct rays, avoiding burns on the foliage.

    We plant these seedlings on prepared beds in the middle (maybe a little later) of May, leaving a distance of about 20 cm between seedlings. Annual phloxes are quite resistant to cold snaps and drought, not tolerating overheating of the soil, but loving lighting. These flowers grow best in partial shade. The main thing in caring for phlox is to let them grow quietly. We loosen the soil around the flowers, in the middle of summer we lightly spud them. At the end of spring we feed with liquid organic matter, and at the beginning of summer we carry out top dressing mineral fertilizer with potassium or phosphorus.

    Malva (stock-rose)

    Malva is perennial plant. After planting seeds in spring period in the current season, it only grows, turns green and gains strength. We will enjoy the flowers only in the next warm summer season.

    Its seeds are quite different large sizes, so it is very convenient to sow them (0.5 m between them) immediately on permanent place. We plant mallow, like other flowers, either with seeds immediately into the soil, or with seedlings. Very often, self-sowing into the ground occurs directly with the plant, with the appearance of new seedlings there next year. Propagated by seeds and cuttings. The latter is used in the reproduction of hybrid species.

    There is a mallow - a two-year-old. In the first year it grows, in the next season it blooms profusely, then it gives seeds and dries up. When these flowers grow in sufficiently fertile soils, they need top dressing once or twice per season. If the soil is depleted, then top dressing is required once a decade.

    Before the start of frosts (in areas with severe winters), first-year mallows can be covered with straw, branches or other covering material to prevent freezing. After the snow melts and the earth warms up, we remove the covering material and release the plants.

    Mirabilis

    Mirabilis (and better in the group) will nicely decorate any flower bed. plant with lush bush, covered with both numerous buds and blooming flowers. Their colors are different - from white to lilac. Mirabilis inflorescences are similar to fragrant tobacco. Flowers bloom closer to dusk (as well as in rainy and cloudy weather), and close only at dawn.

    In our country, even when sheltering from frost, the roots of these plants freeze out. Who wants to, you can dig them late autumn and store in the sand. And in the spring again move to the country.

    You can also from seeds, immediately planting them at home in separate cups at the end of April. The soil is desirable neutral, watering - not too frequent. You can plant flower seeds immediately in the nursery directly on the site, covering it with a special film (non-woven material, plastic bottle). In this case, we plant the seeds at the end of April.

    We plant seedlings in open soil after the final passing of threats spring frosts. This plant welcomes only sunny, well-warmed soils. The soil itself should be fertile and loamy. Mirabilis has good drought tolerance and is very easy to care for.

    Liatris

    Unpretentious to the composition of the soil, liatris is quite cold-resistant. Therefore, sowing its seeds (in this case, the full formation of the plant should be only for 2 or 3 years) or tubers are carried out immediately in open ground (late April or mid-October). This flower is not picky about sunlight, planting it is possible in the shade.

    The plant does not like stagnant water, so the presence of a drainage system is desirable in the flower bed. The soil should be medium acid, light and loose. Liatris needs regular feeding during and after flowering.

    Kobeya

    I finish the review with a beautiful kobe. This plant is valued for its excellent climbing habit. It grows and blooms only one summer season. The flower loves open fertile lands, which are illuminated by the sun's rays all daylight hours. It also feels good in partial shade, but in the shade and in a draft it practically does not grow. Young plants die in the cold, and adults are able to endure even a light frost.

    We grow kobe with the help of seedlings (and only!), We plant seeds from mid-February to mid-March. The day before planting, the seeds are soaked in water or in some kind of growth stimulant. Seeds are immediately planted in individual cups, as kobeya does not take transplants well. The first shoots - a couple of weeks after sowing. After the appearance of true leaves, the seedlings are transplanted into larger cups. To do this, we moisten the soil abundantly with them and carefully pull out the seedlings along with the ground.

    We move seedlings of flowers to a discount (flower bed) only at the end of May and only under different kind shelters that we remove when stable warm weather is established. We dig landing holes for kobei at a distance of half a meter. We fill the hole halfway with fertile soil. We carefully remove the seedlings from the cups along with all the earth, carefully lower them into the hole, dig in and water.

    Usually these flowers are planted next to trees, or special supports are placed - pergolas, around which the kobeya will curl. Demanding on moisture, from where regular watering follows. First she needs nitrogen fertilizers, and during the formation of flowers - phosphorus and potassium.

    As soon as the first shoots appear, we feed the plants with humate. And after planting in open ground, we fertilize the soil weekly with fertilizers. Usually alternate mineral and organic species fertilizers. Be sure to spray for pests.

    Look like that's it. Although there are more ornamental cabbage, very good fern bundled with something, perennial rudbeckia, ...., if someone suddenly likes it.
