How to paint the ceiling: important nuances. How to paint a ceiling without streaks: the choice of paint, techniques, execution

One of the most common ways fine finish the ceiling during the repair of the premises is its painting.

The most common, economical and simple option ceiling finish is painting.

This is due to the wide variety of paints offered, the combination good quality material with reasonable prices and ease of finishing. You should consider the answer to the question: how is the ceiling painted with your own hands?

Preparatory work

To get a perfectly painted ceiling, you must first carry out thorough preparatory work.

They include:

  • selection of quality tools;
  • selection of the appropriate paint;
  • correct surface treatment.

Painting the ceiling with your own hands will not take place without the materials and tools required for work. These include:

  • dye;
  • primer;
  • putty;
  • large and small rollers with long handles;
  • a set of brushes of different sizes;
  • containers for putty, primer and paint;
  • spatulas (narrow and wide);
  • sandpaper;
  • skinner;
  • brush on a long handle;
  • abrasive mesh (if necessary);
  • ladder;
  • protective suit with headgear;
  • glasses.

Modern construction market offers a variety of water-based paints suitable for any room. For interior decoration dry rooms are most suitable for acrylic, water-based, silicone paints. When repairing rooms with high humidity: in the kitchen, in the bathroom, toilet - you can use silicate paint, which contains antiseptic additives. Silicone paint is very high quality, combines the positive properties of acrylic and silicate painting materials, but has a rather high cost.

All of them are environmentally friendly, safe, vapor-permeable, practically odorless, easy to clean with soapy water.

Preparation of the base of the ceiling for painting

Painting the ceiling begins with the preparation of its base. These works can be divided into several stages:

  • cleaning from the old coating;
  • putty;
  • primer.

First of all, it is necessary to clean the surface of the ceiling from the old coating: wash off chalk whitewash, remove wallpaper, paint, beat off tiles, etc. After that, its evenness, the presence of cracks, drops, bulges are checked.

Considering that painting the ceiling implies an ideal flat surface, then, if necessary, it should be leveled with puttying. For large defects, start and finish putties must be applied.

The putty mixture is diluted in a prepared container, applied to the surface with a wide and narrow spatula. After drying finishing putty carefully cleaned with sandpaper.

A primer must be applied to the ceiling with a roller.

To improve the adhesive properties of the materials used, it is necessary to prime the entire ceiling surface. Before priming, the surface is cleaned of dust with a brush with a long handle. For the production of these works, a deep penetrating primer is used, completely ready for use, of good quality. Using a roller, it is applied evenly over the entire surface of the ceiling. After the primer has dried, a second primer coat is applied in the same way. Only after carrying out high-quality preparation, the paint will lie flat on the surface. The room where the repair is being done should be warm and dry. There should be no drafts.

Now you need to move on to a direct consideration of how to paint the ceiling according to all the rules.

The technology of painting the ceiling with a roller and brush

Traffic patterns painting tools when painting the ceiling: a - with a roller; b - with a brush.

Painting the ceiling, as noted above, can be done independently in 2 different ways:

  • traditional (with a roller and brush);
  • using a vacuum cleaner or spray gun.

The most common is the first method of staining. How to paint the ceiling with a roller and brush? Painting work should be carried out in a special protective suit, headgear and goggles.

First of all, corners and hard-to-reach places are painted with a brush: near pipes, decorative elements, lamps, etc.

First, with a brush, the corners of the room, opposite front door. After that, paint is applied around the entire perimeter of the ceiling with a brush in the form of a strip about 5 cm wide. This is necessary so that in the future, working with a roller, not to spoil the junctions of the walls with the ceiling and the corners.

The main painting of the ceiling is done with a long-handled roller or using a stepladder. A small amount of paint is poured into a pre-prepared wide container. After dipping the roller in the paint, you need to roll it a little in the container so that the paint is evenly distributed. Its excess can be removed with a brush.

Ceiling painting scheme: 1 - priming the surface, 2 - preparing the paint for work, 3 - painting the corners, 4, 5 - the first vertical and second horizontal layers of paint, 6 - cleaning the working tool from paint.

In order for the surface of the ceiling to turn out to be impeccable, at least 2 layers of paint must be applied to it. To avoid streaks, it is necessary to paint the ceiling perpendicular to the window during the first layer. The second layer of paint is applied to the surface in a direction perpendicular to the first layer. Only in this way will not arise on the ceiling of divorces. Before applying each next coat of paint, the previous one should dry well.

The mechanism of painting with a roller is simple: a small amount of paint is applied to the surface in parallel stripes, overlapping each other. It is important when working to avoid streaks and folds. The area to be painted must be carefully examined from various angles for defects in the painting in order to immediately eliminate them. At the end of the work, the painted ceiling with your own hands should be dried well. Brushes and rollers are washed in kerosene, turpentine, white spirit, and then in warm water with soap.

It would seem that a simple matter is to paint the ceiling

It's been a few months now that I've been renovating. Alone without any help, and without any special training. Before that, I did a little repair work, not professionally, mostly finishing works. Before I started painting the ceiling, I did not read a single line on the Internet on this topic. Apparently in vain. Some things I could do better. It would seem that such a simple matter - to paint the ceiling. In truth, I was hoping to complete this process in a few hours. As a result, everything about everything took several days (about 24 hours in total), because I did not know the most elementary things and reached everything myself. Knowing simple moments, I could do it much faster.

Because my ceiling required quite serious repair work, then I did not immediately start with painting. In fact, the painting process itself is just the easiest thing in painting the ceiling :). In my case, the scope of work, from beginning to end, amounted to: cutting the strobe (for wiring), laying and fixing the cable, sealing the strobe, leveling the ceiling, priming, painting and tinting. Each of these types of work brought me many "pleasant" surprises. In our case, we will assume that you have hidden wiring and you do not need to cut the strobes and lay the cable, this is a separate topic for a “conversation”.

Tools you will need

Let's start with the tools. So we will need roller. I painted with a long pile roller. The seller recommended it to me (I think not in vain), later I found confirmation of this. Foam and velor rollers are not suitable. We also need paint tray and brush. It doesn't matter which brush, the main thing is more :).

Let me dwell on the paint in a little more detail. I used water-based paint, you can of course oil, but then it will be difficult to tear it off the ceiling in the future. I would also NOT recommend using glossy paint, it perfectly conveys any irregularities in the ceiling and looks somehow too glamorous. You will also need a rag and, oddly enough, construction glasses:). Guess what for? That's all. We turn to the actual painting process, or rather the preparation for painting.

Ceiling leveling

Now even little child It is known that in order to paint the ceiling, it must first be leveled. Most often the problem uneven ceiling happens at the joints of ceilings. They either stick out or vice versa have gaps. For example, my ceiling joints protruded. I solved it with a grinder. I walked along the joints, removed a layer of paint, concrete and old putty, the grinder removes all this perfectly. When processing joints, the main thing is not to get carried away and not remove too much.

If gaps appear in the plates, they can be eliminated with putty. The difference in height in the slabs can also be leveled with putty. It allows leveling with a layer up to 1 cm, for a ceiling this is quite enough. Important point! When leveling the ceiling, do not use oil putty, it is expensive and large surfaces gives cracks, it is checked up on bitter experience. It is good to use oil putty to eliminate small gaps and depressions, no more than 1 cm wide. For example, I puttyed the strobes well with it. If desired, you can putty her the same joints in the slabs.

Prime the ceiling, it's important!

Before leveling the ceiling, prime it and remove upper layer paints. I screwed up on this. In places where alignment is not needed, old paint peeled off and went in lumps mixed with a new one, I literally had to pick out the old layers of paint with my fingers. The solution in this case could be this. We take a spatula or sandpaper and scrape off the old layer of paint, quickly and efficiently. As a last resort, when painting, just take more paint so that the roller does not stick to the surface. If your ceiling is painted oil paint I would recommend walking on the surface with sandpaper, IMHO it is more effective and the paint will lie better.

We smoothly move on to the painting process itself. When the surface is leveled and primed, you can start painting. There are no tricks here. Most importantly, make sure that the primer and putty are completely dry. According to the instructions, the primer should dry for 1 hour, and the putty for 12 hours (time varies depending on the manufacturer). I waited a day in both cases, it's a lot. In your case, it all depends on your patience. One more moment. You can not apply a primer on top of the putty, the paint will lie perfectly. Especially if it White paint, will be in tone with putty.

Some points and tricks worth paying attention to

  1. You can use a table as a stepladder, the main thing is that it is stable. The painting process can be easily carried away and played in the box. If the table wobbles, put some paper on it.
  2. Wear construction goggles. Believe me, even water-based paint brings a very unpleasant sensation on the surface of the eye. There was an experience, it is checked up.
  3. Paint the ceiling first. If you paint or lay the floor first, paint splatters will leave unpleasant memories on the floor surface. Ideally, the order of finishing the room should be as follows: ceiling, walls, floor, everything else.
  4. Stir the paint in the jar without opening the jar. Just need to push harder. If you are a woman, ask a nearby or standing man do it for you. Or, without lifting the can, roll it across the floor.
  5. Use a brush to tint irregularities, as well as those places where the roller “does not reach”.
  6. While touching up, arm yourself with a rag to immediately wash off the paint if it unexpectedly drips onto the floor or walls.
  7. Paint the ceiling in two layers, so you will hide spots and bumps. The third time you can paint, only the most problematic areas. Do not dilute the paint - this is a "divorce".
  8. After painting, do not forget to dip the roller and brushes in water so that they do not harden. For example, after the second painting, I lost the roller.
  9. Before leveling and painting, remove all lighting, insulate the wires, or better, turn off the electricity altogether.
  10. Clothing should be old, which is not a pity, preferably with long sleeves and a collar.

P.S. If you are concerned about your safety - installation of video surveillance, Moscow offers various options. You will not only install, but will also service the equipment. It should also be noted quite reasonable prices for real quality!

If you, like many owners of apartments and houses, have a question about how to paint ceilings with a roller, then you should familiarize yourself with the technology. It will allow you to understand. To begin with, it is necessary to assess the condition of the surface and prepare the base, which guarantees good hiding power and a quality result.

The choice of paint will depend on the condition of the ceiling. For example, for an unpainted surface or painted but in good condition, it is best to use acrylic paint, because it provides perfect whiteness, does not turn yellow over time, is economical and can be washed with household products.

But if there is dust on the surface of the ceiling or it is painted and has dirty spots, then it is better to choose a special paint for the ceiling, which will help hide errors and is moisture resistant. The composition should be suitable for application over heavy stains, have high hiding power and dry quickly.

Choice of materials and tools

Before you decide for yourself the question of how to paint the ceilings with a roller, you need to pick up tools and materials. As for the paint, it can be anything - latex or acrylic. However, for ceilings, experts recommend using water-based enamels. Working with them is a real pleasure, because they lay down easily and evenly, have almost no smell, are washed off with plain water if necessary and wash well.

The mixture can have a matte tint, which is very important for difficult staining, because working with the ceiling cannot be called easy. In addition, bumps and flaws will not be so visible on a matte surface. The paint should be fresh, but if the mixture has been stored for some time, then it should be checked for uniformity. Otherwise low quality paint may adversely affect the result.

After choosing the materials, you can begin to consider the tools. In addition to the roller, you will need:

  • paint brush;
  • lever;
  • bath;
  • masking tape.

Choosing paint brush, you should prefer the one whose width does not exceed 5 cm. But it can be replaced with adhesive tape. The bath is usually a tray or cuvette. When purchasing a roller, you must buy one whose width is a maximum of 50 cm. Minimum value is 30 cm.

More about roller selection

Before you paint ceilings with a roller, you must choose the main tool, while the consumer should take into account some recommendations. First of all, working surface the tool should be fleecy, because the pile will allow you to paint all the bumps. Secondly, when buying, you need to pull the pile and check if it falls out. After all, if this happens during staining, the villi will stick to the surface and the work will be spoiled.

Before you paint ceilings with a roller, you should check the seams, which should not be visible. If this is the case, then the layer will be uneven, and you will have to cover the surface in several layers or completely redo the work. Both the first and second cases entail additional costs. Another important nuance when choosing a roller is its density. You can check this feature by holding the tool in your hand. If it is deformed, then you should refuse to purchase this device for coloring, because you will not be able to rub the paint as evenly as possible.

If you want to understand which roller is better to paint the ceiling with, you should know that you should not always trust the advice of the seller. Many of them are advised to purchase a foam rubber or velor variety. The base materials perfectly absorb liquid, therefore, a lot of paint will go away. When applying the composition to the surface using such a roller, bubbles will form. In addition, the paint will drip profusely on the floor, so the nap roller is an excellent choice for professionals.

Many home craftsmen are also wondering which tool is better to choose - a brush or brushes are quite a simple tool, but when painting the surface, they leave stripes, traces, villi and stains. Using a brush is almost impossible to achieve a completely even finish. And the layer will not turn out smooth, as when using a roller. Yes, and with last tool it is possible to capture a more impressive surface area, and the composition at the same time lays down evenly and neatly, without stripes and traces.

Preparation for staining

Before you paint with a roller, you must prepare a room from which all furniture and interior items are removed. If something cannot be taken out of the room, then it is necessary to use covers and a film, and for reliability, the material is fixed with adhesive tape.

The entire surface of the floor is also covered with newspaper or the same polyethylene. Windows are curtained, window sills are covered to protect materials from drops and splashes of paint. Shoes and clothing that you plan to use at work should be comfortable. You should wear a headdress or tie a scarf on your head. Do not forget about safety: eyes must be protected with goggles, and hands with gloves.

The surface of the ceiling is prepared, the base is cleaned of whitewash or old coating; putty will be able to repair bumps and seams. If you are faced with the question of how to properly paint the ceiling with a roller, then you should consider that the surface must be treated with a primer a day before applying the mixture.

It is primed in order to create a moisture-proof layer, while the paint holds firmly and for a long time. Before painting, the mixture is well mixed, and hard-to-reach areas can be painted with a paint brush. It is also used for processing places around the perimeter and along the walls, where it is problematic to get close with a roller.

Detailed description of staining

Quite often, novice masters wonder how to paint the ceiling with a roller. water-based paint. If you are also among them, then first you need to pour the composition into the bath and soak the roller with the mixture. Excess is wiped on the inclined surface of the tray. The tool must be well saturated.

For convenience, an elongated handle is put on the roller. It is better to start work in the early morning and not take breaks, it is even better to work without a smoke break so that the previous layers of paint do not have time to dry before applying the next ones. It is necessary to start work from the door, you should move parallel to the window opening. The movements should be directed in parallel, and when applying paint to the previous strip, it is necessary to go about 8 cm.

Staining features

If you are faced with the question of how to paint the ceiling with water-based paint with a roller, then you must remember that when applying one layer, it will not be possible to obtain a uniform surface. Each subsequent layer should be directed perpendicular to the previous one.

After applying the first layer, it is left to dry, only after that you can proceed to further work. The painting is carried out with an overlap to hide the transition and prevent unpainted areas. The composition is rubbed until a smooth coating is created. The penultimate layer should be directed along the window. That is, the movements should be directed parallel to it.

Ceiling preparation may include not only the application of putty, but also the implementation of grinding. After that, you can proceed to staining. When choosing a roller, you must choose one that is made of sheep wool because it has a lot of advantages. Among others, it should be noted that with this tool it is difficult to leave unpainted areas. In addition, such a tool will differ high wear resistance and excellent absorbency.

By choosing a lambswool roller, you eliminate the need to remove parts that have peeled off the instrument from the ceiling, as happens with cheaper products. The roller should be rolled over the surface without strong pressure. You must go over the same place several times, which will contribute to an even distribution of paint.

If you are also among those who are wondering how to properly paint the ceiling with water-based paint with a roller, then you should know that if there are several windows and openings in the room, the second layer is applied along the long wall. You can reduce the consumption of the mixture by using a grid in the bath. When you roll over it with a roller, excess paint will flow back into the container.

If the ceiling initially has a yellowish tint, then you must eliminate the yellowness after painting. To do this, add some blue pigment to the mixture. It must be diluted in water, and then added in small portions to a container of paint. The resulting composition is well mixed, and the procedure is repeated until the paint allows you to get the desired result.

For reference

Now you know how to paint the ceiling with a roller without streaks. However, the choice of the described tool does not mean at all that the work can be completed successfully. It is important to prepare the surface well, because the quality will depend on it. further work. In addition, the material at the base of the surface also affects the outcome, among others, drywall and concrete should be distinguished.

Conclusion

GKL perfectly holds any type of paint, but before applying a new decorative layer, the joints of the sheets of material must be sealed. They should be invisible, for this they are coated with putty. Such actions should also be carried out with self-tapping screws, which allow you to attach sheets to the frame and are installed at the first stage of decoration.

High-quality painted ceiling will decorate any room. But instead of a neat, even surface with self-painting often ugly stains, smudges and splashes are obtained. This is because not everyone knows how to paint the ceiling with a roller. In fact, there is nothing particularly difficult in such work. You just need to understand the technology of painting with a roller and use some secrets experienced painters.

For painting ceilings, several types of coloring emulsions are used (their main characteristics are given in the table).

Paint types Characteristics
Water emulsion They do not have a pungent odor, do not emit toxic substances, fit well on any surface. In addition, in the future, a water-based ceiling can be coated with any other paint.
Acrylic Moisture resistant, easy to apply, easy to clean and excellent color retention.
Latex Less resistant to fading, but perfectly repels moisture. Well suited for applying to embossed wallpaper.
silicate Developed based on liquid glass and are only suitable for painting mineral surfaces (e.g. concrete). Polymer materials can't be painted like that.
Silicone Elastic, breathable paints without pungent odors and harmful fumes.

Despite this diversity, the most popular among home craftsmen is the “ordinary” inexpensive water emulsion. It is easy to work with her, without having much experience in the painting business.

But experts say that the best option for painting the ceiling acrylic mix. If you are going to make repairs in the bathroom, buy a more expensive and moisture-resistant latex paint. Whatever you decide on, when choosing a coloring emulsion, use the following tips:

  1. For self repair it is better to choose matte paint - it hides surface irregularities and painter's mistakes.
  2. The emulsion must be fresh. Expired, frozen, exfoliated paint is not suitable for work.
  3. If possible, paint the ceiling in any light color except for white. On a white surface, staining imperfections are most noticeable.

On a note! Before work, prepare the paint according to the instructions on the can (bucket). Some emulsions need to be diluted with water, others need to be thoroughly mixed with a construction mixer.

The choice of roller is an important point for successful painting.

Do not try to carefully paint over a large and even surface with a brush. Only a quality roller will help to achieve success. So which roller is better to paint the ceiling?

When choosing, pay attention to the following parameters:

  • Rod length. In this case, the most convenient instrument is 25–40 cm long.
  • Coat material. Choose a tool with a fleecy coat. And the rougher your ceiling is processed, the longer the pile of the roller should be. It will help the emulsion to penetrate into all the irregularities and evenly cover the surface. Foam rubber and velor rollers are cheaper, but they are not suitable for such work. They absorb paint too much, leave smudges and bubbles, create a lot of splashes.
  • Roll density. Squeeze it with your hand: if the shape is preserved, the tool is good. If the roller is deformed, it is too soft and will not be able to grind the emulsion well.
  • A seam in a coat. Too rough seam will leave stripes on the painted surface.
  • Pile strength. With a quality tool, the pile stays in place, even when you pull it. If the fibers "crawl out" of the fabric, then they will remain on the finished coating.

Choose a ceiling paint roller with a telescopic handle or buy a special extension for the regular model. Painting the ceiling with a short-handled tool is extremely inconvenient, even if you use a stepladder.

Learning to use a roller

After choosing the main tool, buy the rest of the inventory:

  • a special plastic tray (trough, tray, cuvette) for working with a roller;
  • wide paint brush;
  • masking tape.

Painting the ceiling with a roller requires some skill. If you have never done such work before, practice on an unnecessary surface. Try your hand at a piece of drywall or on a section of wall that will later be covered with wallpaper.

How to paint with a roller:

  1. Pour the paint into the tray.
  2. Dip a roller into it.
  3. Roll it over the ribbed side of the tray to squeeze out excess paint from the pile. If this is not done, smudges form on the ceiling. After a good rolling, the surface of the fur coat should be saturated with the emulsion evenly, without dry areas. Does the paint come off the roller on its own? Help her with a brush.
  4. Attach an extension to the tool or extend the telescopic handle.
  5. You can start painting. Press the roller against the surface and move it along back and forth, rubbing the emulsion so that smudges do not form.

Important! After painting work wash the instrument thoroughly. Then it can be used again. If you leave the paint roller for at least a few hours, it will be hopelessly damaged.

We paint the ceiling: the procedure and basic rules

First of all, the surface must be properly prepared for painting:

  1. Strip the ceiling from the old coating.
  2. Putty seams, cracks, potholes.
  3. Align the hardened putty with a grout and remove the resulting dust.
  4. Paste the walls around the perimeter of the ceiling with masking tape.
  5. Prime the surface. It is convenient to do this with the same roller. But do not use one tool for priming and painting!
  6. Once the primer is dry, start painting. Before you paint the ceiling with a roller, paint all borders, corners, moldings and other hard-to-reach places with a wide paint brush.
  7. Now take a roller and paint the remaining surface in several layers.

Ceiling painting rules:

  • Work during daylight hours and in good lighting.
  • Start painting from the corner furthest from the entrance.
  • Apply the paint in parallel stripes, with an overlap of 8–10 cm. You can only paint wet on wet, otherwise noticeable joints will remain.
  • When you have finished applying the first layer of emulsion, take a break so that it dries well. Exact time drying time is indicated on the paint label.
  • Apply each next layer perpendicular to the previous one. This way you will get a uniformly painted surface.

Secrets of perfectly even coloring from experienced painters

There are tricks in painting the ceiling with a roller. If you do not know them, even the most quality materials and the tools won't let you desired result. Here are the main secrets of success:

  • The last layer of emulsion is placed in the direction of the window. So the light will fall along the paint stripes, and the joints will become invisible.
  • Missed an unpainted area? Do not try to paint over a separate defect - you will get a spotty ceiling. It is necessary to cover the entire (!) Surface with an additional layer of emulsion.
  • To notice poorly painted areas in time, look at the ceiling under different angles. It’s even more convenient to take an assistant who will look at your work “from the side”.
  • Don't skimp on primer. Without it, the paint will quickly absorb into the surface, will not hold well and will soon simply fly around.
  • Paint fast. Applying one layer of emulsion to the ceiling in a room of 20–30 sq. m takes up to half an hour. If you try for a long time, the paint will begin to dry under your hands, stick to the pile, and everything will be ruined.

As you can see, painting the ceiling with a roller is not difficult at all. arm yourself good tool, buy quality paint, use our advice, and success is guaranteed to you.

To make the ceiling surface in any of the rooms of your home flawless, you need to figure out how to properly paint the ceiling with a roller. Particular difficulties with the implementation of such a procedure when proper preparation to her no.

The simplicity and quality of coloring is determined, first of all, by what kind of paint you choose. Experts believe that it is ideal for ceilings. It guarantees a uniform and even coating on the treated surface. Similar result without special efforts even the home master who has minimal painting skills is able to achieve.

The water emulsion has no unpleasant odors, dries quickly enough, is non-toxic. And most importantly - it is characterized by an excellent level of adhesion to various types ceilings. Water-based paint will adhere perfectly to a layer of plaster or putty, on brick or concrete surface. The ceiling paint we are interested in can be acrylic, silicone or silicate. Compositions of the first type form a special film on the treated surface. It effectively retains water vapor, thereby protecting ceiling from destruction.

Water emulsion for the ceiling surface

Silicate compounds cannot stop fumes. But their service life is estimated at several tens of years. The most rational option for painting the ceiling can be considered silicone paints. They are characterized by a well-thought-out combination of low water absorption and increased vapor permeability. We add that it is customary to subdivide the water-based emulsion into several varieties depending on the gloss index of a particular composition. From this point of view, it can be: glossy, semi-matte, matte.

It is undesirable for inexperienced home craftsmen to process ceilings with glossy paints on their own. After their application, all (even the most insignificant) errors and irregularities will immediately appear on the surface.

One wrong stroke and all your work will go to waste - the ceiling will look sloppy and unattractive . But matte compositions are ideal for beginner painters. Such paints perfectly hide all sorts of flaws on the ceiling surfaces. To Work with matte paints much easier than with glossy and semi-gloss. When choosing a water emulsion, always remember this.

Even a beginner understands that it does not make sense to use a paint brush to process the ceiling surface. Your hand will get tired very quickly holding such a tool. The brush is more suitable for painting the floor and walls. But the ceiling is better to handle with a roller. And not simple, but installed on a long handle. The greater the height of the room, the longer the handle should be.

Ceiling paint roller

  1. Get rollers with natural pile. Velor tools take very little coloring composition. When using them, you are tormented, processing even a ceiling that is insignificant in area. Not suitable for the surfaces of interest to us and foam rollers. Their use is fraught with the formation of bubbles on the ceiling. The latter will absolutely leave unattractive spots on the treated surface, which will be very conspicuous.
  2. Before painting, stock up on three rollers at once. One should be medium haired. With it, you will apply the final coat of paint. And the other two are taken with a short pile. They will be needed for primary surface treatment.

An important addition. If you have goats or a ladder at your disposal, you can use rollers with a short handle. Although it is always more convenient to work standing on the floor. Therefore, nevertheless, it is wiser to invest in a roller with a long handle. Or buy a regular tool, as well as an extension for it (an additional handle), which can be simple or telescopic. The latter is able to move up to 3-4 meters. With such a roller it is convenient to work in residential areas, even with very high heights.

The right choice of paint and roller will not help you perfectly paint the ceiling surface if you do not properly prepare it. Be sure to remove the old coating. If it was done with water-based paint, there will be no problems with cleaning the surface. In this case, you need to dilute a little of any detergent in water and wash off the old coating with it. If a different paint was previously used, the ceiling cleaning procedure may become more laborious. Soapy water is not enough here. Better buy special compound- washes.

They need to be applied with a brush on the old coating and wait a while. Ideally, unnecessary paint itself will lag behind the ceiling. In practice, to completely clean the surface, it is often necessary to apply washes several times. We recommend removing whitewash from the ceiling with a mixture of water and vinegar or a solvent. After such treatment, the surface must be without fail wash with soapy water and wait until it dries completely. If the old layer of whitewash is holding tight enough, use a spatula to remove it. This tool is also necessary for removing plaster from ceiling joints.

Ceiling Paint Remover

Plasterboard ceilings for painting are prepared even easier. They need to be wiped and covered with putty on the joints of individual sheets of drywall. Similarly, it is desirable to disguise the protruding (even slightly) caps used for fastening finishing products(screws, self-tapping screws). Note! Both concrete and plasterboard surfaces should be treated with primers after cleaning. The primer provides high viscosity of drywall sheets. Due to this, the paint on them will be applied much easier and faster.

And on concrete ceilings primer strengthens the plaster layer. Priming compositions are applied with a roller (usually foam rubber) in one layer. The last step in preparing the ceiling (brick, concrete) for painting is plastering. This procedure cannot be called easy. But without it, you will not be able to get a perfectly leveled surface. And without this, high-quality painting is unrealistic to achieve.

beautiful ceiling surface will only be if you can apply paint on it in a uniform layer. To do this, you need to properly dilute the composition for staining. On a can of paint there is always a clear and detailed instructions. Guided by it, dilute the composition and start the painting process according to the following scheme:

  1. Dip the roller (on one side only) in a container of paint and roll it over a piece of hardboard or linoleum, or even better - on a paint tray specially purchased for this purpose. Do not dip the tool in coloring composition completely and do not try to process the ceiling immediately afterwards. You are guaranteed to get non-painted surfaces. Immediately after drying, they will turn into clearly visible spots.
  2. Apply the paint evenly to the ceiling with a roller. This requires you to work fairly quickly. The paint is recommended to be applied in strips. Their width is taken from 50 to 100 cm. Always lead the strips across the room. Then the joints between them will be almost invisible.
  3. When the roller gives the surface all the paint on it, it is necessary to dip the tool again, roll it over the tray and continue painting. An important nuance. Each subsequent strip of paint is superimposed on the previous one by about 15–20 cm.

Applying paint to the ceiling in a uniform layer

According to the above algorithm, you need to paint the entire ceiling with the first layer. Then wait for it to dry and start re-applying paint. Now it is important to ensure that the joints of the new strip do not fall on the joints of the first. Apply as many coats of paint as you see fit. Regularly step back a little and examine the results of your labors with an unbiased look. If this is not done, there will be 100% bald spots on the ceiling.

It is optimal when another person observes your work and indicates on which area you need to apply a couple more stripes of paint. Apply the last coat with a medium pile roller. If you follow the described ceiling painting technology, you will get a truly perfect surface with impeccable views. Good luck to you!
