Not every home master can put tiles in the bathroom himself. That is why many people prefer to resort to an easier way to ennoble this room - to make it with plastic panels. The main advantage of structures of this type is the assembly according to the principle of the designer, which makes it possible to disassemble the panels easily and without loss if necessary. The design features of this type of finish allow oxygen to circulate freely, which is fundamentally important in conditions of high humidity.

Benefits of choosing PVC panels

  • Low price, which varies depending on the quality of the material and the prestige of its manufacturer, but generally remains affordable.
  • If the installation work is not carried out independently, then you will have to pay much less for the services of the master than for laying ceramic tiles or, for example, natural stone.
  • Resistant to fluctuations in humidity. Plastic is not afraid of drops of water, temperature changes, mold, fungi. Even if the material is used in an unheated room, there will be no deformation or loss of color brightness.
  • Reliable manufacturers guarantee the safety of their products of all properties for a quarter of a century.
  • Unpretentiousness in use and care. Plastic panels are remarkably washed from dirt with a soapy solution.

The plastic trim also has several disadvantages:

  • Installing plastic panels will still steal some toilet space, which does not happen when painting or wallpapering.
  • Vinyl does not burn well, but if it begins to melt, it releases acrid, toxic smoke.
  • Choosing a plastic finish from unscrupulous sellers, you can buy a low-quality product that will be very fragile, brittle.

On the video you can see the results of the repair in the toilet when it is finished with PVC panels:

Examples of repairing a toilet with plastic panels with your own hands are shown in the photo below.

The cost of repairing a toilet using plastic panels

If you have not decided which is better - to upgrade the bathroom yourself or order a turnkey toilet repair service, keep in mind that in Moscow such repairs with plastic paneling will cost you 11-13 thousand rubles, in St. Petersburg - 9-11 thousand rubles. In the regions, prices can vary quite significantly.

Choosing panels for finishing the toilet

  1. PVC is an incredibly flexible material that bends at an angle of more than 90⁰. You can check the quality of the material if you take the panel from different ends with your hands and start bending it. High-quality plastic will bend into a ring.
  2. Smell the material you buy. Your nose should not smell anything, because high-quality plastic is devoid of any odors.
  3. Narrower panels are easier to properly level, wide ones will leave a lot of unnecessary trimmings.
  4. All quality products have the appropriate certificates. Their absence from the seller should make you suspicious.

Advice. When buying PVC panels, always take a small stock of several elements. After all, if during the laying process it turns out that your initial calculations were wrong, it may turn out that just such a model is no longer available.

We mount plastic panels in the toilet

Sheathing a toilet with your own hands using plastic panels is not at all a difficult task if you have the desire and a supply of free time.

Before you go to the store, recalculate the area of future installation, add another 15% to the figure obtained for cuts.

Necessary materials and tools

Before you make the installation of plastic panels in the toilet, you need to stock up on useful equipment. You will need:

  • PVC panels, as well as edging profile for them;
  • aluminum or plastic profile;
  • hydraulic level;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • screwdriver and drill;
  • cutting tool;
  • drawing tool.

Preliminary work

Before starting the installation of plastic trim, perform the following steps:

  1. We remove the old finish from the walls.
  2. If possible, we change the old wiring and water pipes.
  3. We process the walls with a primer mixture.
  4. If it is planned to install cabinets, shelves, accessories in the room, we install additional strips under them.
  5. The material must be brought into the apartment a few hours before the start of work so that its temperature equals the temperature in the room.

The toilet room, finished with tiles, looks very nice and respectable. But in order to lay it out beautifully, you need to have certain skills in working with such material, and the tile itself will cost a pretty penny. You can make high-quality repairs in the toilet at no extra cost and on your own if you use PVC panels instead of tiles.

Peculiarities

To finish the toilet with plastic panels, you do not need to have special building skills and physical strength. This material has a whole set of other qualities that provide ease of handling both during installation work and during the operation of finishing from it.

Although plastic panels are not without drawbacks.

  • It is a lightweight material that is easy to cut and install. It can be used for both walls and ceilings. PVC panels will hide behind pipes and other communications that are present in the toilet and often do not look attractive at all, like “native” uneven walls. But it must be borne in mind that during installation on each side, such a coating “eats” about five centimeters of room space.
  • It is convenient to deal with finishing the premises with this material alone, especially since it is very difficult for two builders to turn around in the cramped space of the toilet room.
  • If the panels are installed correctly, they will last a very long time (up to twenty-five years), without requiring special care. They are resistant to chemicals, it is difficult to spoil the coating. It is enough to regularly wipe the PVC walls with a damp cloth so that the toilet does not lose its well-groomed appearance.
  • The panels are resistant to moisture and temperature extremes.
  • When making a choice in favor of decorating a toilet with such panels, it must be borne in mind that this is a material that melts under the influence of fire, releasing acrid smoke.
  • If you hit the plastic wall hard, the panel may break.

Style and design

Thanks to such a wide choice, you can design a sanitary room in any style. With the help of panels of different colors, colorful or patterned, a certain visual effect is achieved. So, if you use light panels, it will visually expand the space of the bathroom.

The use of panels with photo printing opens up unlimited scope for design. Entering the toilet, finished with such material, you can find yourself in the atmosphere of a paradise island, among waterfalls, mountains and in any environment that will contribute to peaceful loneliness. To create a complete picture, not only the walls, but also the floor and ceiling must be done in a single theme and color scheme. This rule works equally well both in the design of a separate toilet and a combined bathroom.

Although no one will forbid limiting yourself to the fact that the panel covers the wall only up to half or only a quarter, and the other part of the wall is decorated with washable wallpaper or painted with water-based paint of a suitable color.

Dimensions

Having made a choice in favor of plastic panels, you need to take into account that there is no single standard for the forms of their release. On sale you can find panels with a width of ten to thirty centimeters. Their length can be from two to six meters. The thickness is also different - from eight to twelve millimeters. If the choice is made in favor of sheet panels, then it should be borne in mind that their width is eighty centimeters and reaches two meters. Length from 105 to 405 centimeters.

When calculating the required amount of material, keep in mind that some of it will go to trim. Therefore, it is better to immediately purchase panels with a margin of fifteen percent.

Preparatory work

Before you get to the installation of the panels themselves, you will have to take measurements of the room and buy everything you need for repairs: not only panels, but also profiles for decorating external and internal corners, places where plastic adjoins the ceiling and floor, for decorating cabinets and doors provided your plan. You will need material to create a crate for future panels. You can choose wooden or metal slats. It should be borne in mind that how much the toilet area will decrease after all the work will depend on their parameters. The number of rails depends on the height and width of the walls, as well as the distance between the elements of the crate themselves. If a riser, pipes and a ceiling frame are hidden under the PVC panels, you need to lay the material consumption for this when calculating its total amount.

And you may also need dowels and screws. If they are not on the farm, you need to resolve the issue with their presence in advance. The plastic cladding technology also allows the panels to be glued directly to the walls, if they are absolutely even. With this approach to finishing, you will need "liquid nails". If a crate made of wood acts as a support for plastic, you need to purchase a tool for treating a wooden structure from decay. Using a primer for walls and ceilings will prevent mold from appearing under the panels. Insects under it also will not divorce.

To properly repair the toilet, you need to carefully prepare its walls for future decorative trim. Remove wallpaper and paint from them. To work, you need a metal spatula. Wallpaper that does not lag behind the wall can be soaked by rolling over it with a wet roller several times. Do not be too lazy to remove the old wallpaper to the end, so that later you do not have to dismantle the plastic panels and carry out repairs again if a fungus starts there.

As for the paint, it is enough to remove only what is already peeling off the wall. The required number of elements of the wooden frame is cut, they are treated with an antiseptic, including the places of cuts. Then they must be allowed to dry. In an apartment building, a balcony is suitable for this. You can also take the blanks to the stairwell. Until the drying process is completed, you can process the walls and ceiling in the toilet itself.

The primer is applied with a long pile roller. A wide brush will also work. In uncomfortable areas - narrow. It makes sense to apply a couple of layers of soil, especially since it dries quickly. If you decide to repair the toilet in full - with the replacement of the toilet - it is better to remove the old one before you start the crate. If pipes and old electrical wiring require replacement, this issue should also be taken care of a little earlier than it comes to the external design of the room.

frame

To make a frame for panel cladding yourself, you need to decide in advance how the PVC panels will be placed relative to the wall - vertically or horizontally. Placing the panels vertically will make the room appear taller, while placing it horizontally will visually expand it. In this case, the "vertical option" involves the horizontal placement of the bars of the crate and vice versa. When installing rails, you need to focus on the readings of the building level. To fasten the bars to the walls, use self-tapping screws or dowels. Using self-tapping screws, you need to drill holes in the walls and insert plastic chopsticks into them.

By the time of work, the bars should dry well, otherwise they will lead later, which can ruin the whole thing. They are attached at a distance of about half a meter from each other. In places where cabinets and shelves will be placed, the crate elements must be placed “more often” so that the fastening is more reliable. The most common option for finishing the toilet is the vertical method of attaching the panels. To make a frame for such a finish, you first need to install its side racks. To do this, the rails are fixed with self-tapping screws in the corners of the room. The vertical strips should not come into contact with the surface of the floor and ceiling.

Then the crate is done. The first bar is fixed at a distance of two centimeters from the floor. A rack line is created around the entire perimeter of the room. The same is mounted under the ceiling. In order for the crate to be uniform, after installing the upper and lower strips of slats, the distance between them is measured with a tape measure and divided in half. In the middle, another bar is strengthened. Each of the resulting sections is also divided into two and the bars are again strengthened at a measured distance. This continues until the distance between the elements of the crate is reduced to half a meter.

To build communication boxes for paneling, use the same materials as to create a frame on the walls. The boxes are attached to the floor and walls. You can connect the bars with self-tapping screws. In the process of work, it is necessary to provide places for technological openings that will provide access to hidden communications when solving household issues. As for the frame itself, not only wooden, but also metal guides can be used for its construction.

If it is supposed to finish the ceiling of the toilet with plastic, the frame on it is created in the same way as on the walls, only the bars are located more closely to each other.

sheathing

In order to make the walls of the room with PVC panels with your own hands, you will first have to install racks on which the decorative strips will be held. When the installation of the frame is completed, you can proceed to the next step, which involves the installation of racks that need to be nailed to the crate. The slats need to be cut at an angle of forty-five degrees. They can be attached to the crate with nails or a special stapler at a distance of thirty centimeters from each other.

Plastic panels have grooves and ridges, connecting them together, you can step by step finish the walls, giving them elegance. Decorative plastic elements in the corners and around the doorway will help close and hide the joints of the panels. It is better not to neglect the installation of such design components, otherwise the repair will look unfinished.

After installing the panels along the walls, you need to decorate the box around the vertical pipe that runs in the toilet with a decorative layer. To hide communications from the eyes, the panels will need to be cut to length, and in order to close the uncomfortable place aesthetically, in the end, install decorative corners where necessary. To panel the ceiling of the bathroom, proceed in the same way as in the case of walls. But in the process of work, it will be necessary to make holes for future lamps and bring the electrical wires out.

In such an important place for an apartment as a toilet, it is not enough to carefully sheathe the walls and bypass all the ledges with decorative panels, giving the room an elegant and well-groomed look. It is necessary to place hooks, niches and shelves in predetermined places so that the toilet is convenient to use. It is better to mark the places where all this will be attached along the course of the sheathing - then you won’t have to guess where the crate bars are placed.

Options for using panels to create hidden niches and shelves can be very different. It will not be difficult for a person who is able to dispose of furniture fittings to cover up something that should not be visible with a removable panel. It is possible, for example, to provide a window in the decorative casing, under which the water meter is located, with the ability to close it with a plastic door and easily open it only when required.

Finishing the bathroom with plastic panels usually takes no more than two days, and the results will please you for a long time.

Economy class repair with plastic decoration of the toilet room is good to use in Khrushchev. This is the easiest way to hide an old unattractive riser from view, to make the interior of a small room quite modern and cozy thanks to a competent choice of panels: with a pattern or plain. For example, red walls in the bathroom may seem too extravagant to some people. A green or blue tone in the company of a pattern, for example, in a marine style, will certainly make the decoration comfortable and relaxing.

When repairing a combined bathroom, especially in an old panel house, you need to carefully consider the issue of ventilation, ensuring free air flow between the cladding and the wall, as well as the cladding and ceiling. The ventilation grille also needs to be mounted from plastic, providing it with a decent design. When installing the floor in the toilet, you can make a cement screed and lay out a tile floor. It is important that it does not contradict the overall color scheme of the updated interior. Even if you want to keep within the minimum amount of costs during repairs, you should carefully consider the choice of the decorative coating itself.

The risk of running into low-quality goods today is very high.

  • To finish the bathroom, it is better to use panels with additives that increase their flexibility. Material without appropriate additives will be too brittle. It is not difficult to determine how high-quality a panel is in your hands. Good quality plastic can be bent into a ring.
  • Press the edge of the product with two fingers. Stiffening ribs located inside a high-quality panel cannot be deformed, and there are no dents on the outside.
  • The joining strip of the lock on the edge should return to its original position when it is released after being bent. In a poor-quality product, this plastic strip may break.
  • Through the top layer of the panel, its "insides" should not shine through.
  • When choosing a material, use your sense of smell. If the panels are made from low-quality components, they will emit a chemical aroma that will only become stronger in the confined space of the bathroom. This is not only unpleasant, but also harmful to health.

  • PVC panels of decent quality should contain additives that prevent the material from catching fire. To verify this, ask for a product certificate from a specialist on the trading floor. If you are not provided with documents for the goods, it is better to go to another store.
  • You should not stop your choice on panels of large width. When it comes to repairs in such a small room as a toilet, this is not profitable, since during installation there are too many scraps that you just have to throw away.
  • Take the time to inspect each panel you purchase. It is not uncommon for sellers to put defective copies in a pack of goods. Exchanging them after purchase for a quality product can cost a lot of nerves. You will also have to prove that the panels were not damaged during transportation from the store to the house.

The "extra" time spent in the building materials store will be successfully compensated by the easy and quick installation of panels in the toilet, as well as the pleasure with which you can visit this secluded place for many years.

Beautiful examples

A variety of colors of plastic panels opens up great opportunities for realizing the most interesting design ideas when creating a bathroom interior in accordance with the taste preferences of apartment owners.

Someone considers it worthy to decorate the walls of the toilet room under a stone, someone prefers certain wood patterns, and someone prefers abstract patterns that create a feeling of airiness and lightness, or floral ornaments present on the panels.

  • The combination of beige walls with an unusual pattern and a floor decorated in a red "outfit" will make the toilet room visually very warm. In the eyes of people who especially value warmth, this design will give the bathroom an additional appeal. Like the "neighborhood" of animals and trees on the walls.
  • Connoisseurs of spring and summer will feel comfortable surrounded by walls with a pattern of branches and leaves. Even on a gloomy winter day, such an environment will return spring joy. A light green background helps to tune in to peace and never gets bored.
  • The choice of flashy tones in the design of the toilet is a rather rare phenomenon, but there is no doubt that such a design can make an indelible impression on all visitors to a secluded room. No one will disregard the combination of red and black in a room "with a special purpose". Elements in the form of red prints on black walls will only enhance the effect, as will the boring lighting of the ceiling, echoing the design of the floor with white tiles.

  • The design of the walls of the toilet under the stone would already look quite decent. However, in combination with a rich dark gray pattern at the bottom of the panels, this room looks especially presentable and rich.
  • The use of black tones in the decoration of the bathroom only at first glance seems like a risky move. The combination of black walls with white fixtures creates a stylish contrast, making the interior impressive and modern. Energetic and strong-willed people will clearly appreciate such a neighborhood.

  • Gray panels for large tiles give the room a detached neutrality and decent simplicity. Horizontally arranged narrow and light panels behind the toilet visually expand the cramped space. It no longer puts pressure psychologically on the person who is in it.
  • Green plastic panels of a soft shade with a thin, graceful pattern line along the perimeter of the toilet room look modest, but with dignity. Harmonious design in the room is created without original techniques, but nevertheless makes a great impression.

  • If you use panels with vertical stripes in blue-pink tones on some walls of the bathroom, you can achieve a cozy effect, since such a pattern resembles the texture of a fabric. In this environment, you can feel like “under a flannel shirt”, or like “under a warm blanket”. If the same pattern is present on the floor, the effect will be even stronger.
  • In fawn or beige shades of panels, the toilet space looks calm and lively at the same time, especially with the addition of a small floral pattern. Such colors and ornaments are chosen by balanced people who look at the world seriously and practically. If the walls, decorated with beige panels, are dirty, it will be noticeable, but it will not hurt the eyes. In addition, this surface is easy to clean.

Traditionally, in the design of the toilet, painting, ceramic tiles or wallpaper are used. Plastic panels are used less often. This material is bypassed in vain: the restroom is the place where it fully shows its advantages. The lining is inexpensive, hides the imperfections of surfaces and pipes, and the design corresponds to the modern style.

Finishing the toilet with plastic panels is within the power of even the most inexperienced person in construction. You will need the simplest tools and the implementation of elementary operations.

Why plastic - what you should know when choosing

The material for the manufacture of panels is polyvinyl chloride, which is pressed in a liquid state through special forming holes. The products are cellular, which significantly lightens the weight, gives exceptional flexibility: the strip is effortlessly bent at an angle of more than 90 degrees. Manufacturers adhere to standard product sizes:

  • length 2.6–3.0 m;
  • width from 12 to 50 cm;
  • thickness 8–12 mm.

Other parameters relate to the scope: wall tiles are more durable, they are relatively resistant to mechanical damage. Designed for ceiling sheathing - increased flexibility, very light due to their smaller thickness. The coating is applied in a variety of ways, which allows you to get a pure white surface, matt or glossy in different shades, with a pattern on a thermal film or applied by a typographic method.

Samples with imitation and patterns

The connection of the lining is fast - a groove is used on one strip and a comb on the other. It turns out a surface with or without a visible seam, absolutely flat, on which the joints are almost invisible, which depends on the characteristics of the product.

Plastic panels are popular as a finishing material due to the simplicity and ease of installation. Very few tools are required, and the process is fast, without much physical effort. In many cases, they do without the laborious operation of leveling the walls. The lining is easily cut and sawn, so surfaces of any shape are finished with it.

Plastic panels are universal in their purpose, they are used for covering the ceiling and walls in other rooms. An apartment with walls, a ceiling made of vinyl lining in the kitchen, a balcony, a loggia looks very attractive, despite the low cost of the product. This is achieved thanks to a wide range of shades and textures, imitations for various materials: wood, stone, brick, tile.

The bathroom has high humidity, but plastic panels are not afraid, like fungus, mold. It is possible that they will appear on the walls under the sheathing, but there is a way to prevent this moment by treating the surface with antiseptics before installing the lining.

Manufacturers guarantee a long service life of their products - an average of 20 years. Considering that repairs are usually done twice as often, this operating time is acceptable. If there is an opportunity and desire to implement other design ideas using more expensive material, then dismantling the lining is not difficult. The surface under it remains almost intact, only small holes from the dowels are visible.

Acquisition of basic and consumable material - what is taken into account

The high demand for plastic lining has led to the appearance of low-quality products on the market. It is difficult to visually determine the physical properties, but there are tricks to find out how the panels meet the requirements for them. Here are some tips to help you make the right choice.

According to the standards, various additives are added to the polyvinyl chloride used for production, which make the products elastic. At a glance, it is impossible to determine this, a simple method is used. They take the strip with their hands, spaced across the entire width, begin to bend until the material begins to strongly resist. The best plastic is the one that bends into a ring, and a small angle indicates poor quality.

The second important thing to pay attention to is the smell. Products made using the right technology do not have it. If chemical “aromas” are felt, it is not recommended to buy - they are felt strongly in the limited space of the toilet, and the released substances are harmful to health.

The presence of a certificate that confirms compliance with the standards is an important condition indicating the quality of the material. If the seller refuses to provide documentation, it is better to refuse the purchase, look for another store. Do not neglect the inspection of each panel in the pack. In an attempt to sell a defective product, defective products are often placed inside. If this is found at home, it will not be possible to return the damaged goods and take a quality one. The seller will claim that the reason is poor-quality transportation by the buyer.

The width of the panels plays an important role. It is better to finish a small room narrow, otherwise there will be numerous trimmings that are unsuitable for anything else. Before purchasing a finishing material, the required amount is calculated and taken with a margin. There is a risk of damage during installation, and it is not always possible to buy the missing products with an absolutely identical surface: each batch is slightly different in shade.

Together with plastic lining, corners and endings (moldings) are bought. They are needed to give the skin a high-quality general appearance. They calculate how much is needed, and acquire in order to install, if possible, only whole segments, especially those that will be outside. You will need:

  • F-profile;
  • corners internal and external;
  • skirting boards;
  • final elements;
  • connecting.

Hidden fastening of lining with kleimers

For the device of the frame, you will need a metal or plastic square profile. As an alternative, wooden slats 30 x 30 mm are used. They check the straightness of each product - the strength of the crate, the ease of installation and the beauty of the finishing surface depend on it. For fastening, dowels with impact screws, self-tapping screws, staples for a stapler or special nails with wide hats are purchased.

Frame device for plastic panels

Proper installation of lining in the toilet with your own hands requires preparatory work. It is recommended to remove the old plaster so that the usable space that the sheathing takes up is slightly affected. If it is necessary to replace pipes and wiring, this is done in advance. The day before the start of the procedure, the surface of the walls is treated with an antiseptic to prevent the appearance of mold and fungus.

The sequence of installation of the frame and panels

Think over places for attaching cabinets, sinks. There you will need a reinforced frame from additional slats on which they are installed. If communications are planned to be hidden under plastic, a wooden box is made, which is then sheathed. The toilet bowl and tiles on the floor are mounted before the start of work on finishing the walls. Step by step instructions for installing the frame looks like this:

  • wooden slats are treated with an antiseptic;
  • attach the side racks;
  • make their crate;
  • install plastic fittings.

Now in detail about each stage. Treatment of the rack base with anti-rotten agents is an important point so that it lasts a long time and does not lose strength from dampness. Work is carried out in the open air, so as not to inhale toxic fumes, and left to dry. Apply liquid from all sides, except for the ends. Instead of wood, a metal crate is used, which is attached to clips.

Wooden crate and pipe box

Rails are installed in the corners, which do not reach the ceiling and floor a little. To achieve this result, lining trims are placed, which are removed after fixing the profile. With a plumb line, the verticality of the racks is carefully checked, and with a ruler - the parallelism of the faces. The quality of the frame and skin depends on the accuracy. Fastening is carried out after 40 cm with self-tapping screws with plastic dowels, under which holes are drilled.

Metal profile frame with communication box

Along the perimeter near the floor and ceiling, bars or a metal profile are installed. The lower ends and upper corners are subsequently fixed on them. Vertical and horizontal wooden slats are connected with screws that are screwed in at an angle of 45˚. Fastening to the walls is carried out on dowels. When the main elements are ready, install additional ones after 0.5 m and jumpers in places that will be subjected to increased load.

Installing starter moldings on brackets

Plastic fittings are attached along the perimeter after 30 cm, having previously cut the corners by 45˚. Use nails with wide and flat caps. When they are not available, they make gaskets from 1 x 1 cm PET bottles. They make sure that the slats stick tightly to the crate, and if this fails, they put plastic inserts. In order not to cause damage, a bolt-shaped nozzle is used to finish off the nails.

Fastening the metal profile to the ceiling

If it is planned to repair the ceiling with plastic panels, a crate is also made on it, the installation technology of which is similar. The first bars are fixed 5 cm from the wall, first fixing the edges with dowels, and then along the entire length after 40 cm. The intermediate rails are placed every 0.5 m along a stretched cord, achieving the correct horizontal position.

Installation of PVC panels on the crate - quick and easy work

When the frame with plastic fittings is ready, proceed to lining. Each sawn off with a thin hacksaw with fine teeth. The dimensions are reduced by approximately 1 cm compared to the distance between opposite walls. This will avoid deformation of products, and the lack of length is compensated by the shelves of the corners.

The first element is installed tightly in the groove, pulled a little towards itself and fixed. Use nails with wide hats or staples for a construction stapler. It is important to properly fix the starting strip, strictly checking the level in order to sheathe the walls beautifully. The quality of the entire finish depends on the accuracy of this action. The following panels are guided by the first one, in case of an error, a skew will be noticeable - it will not be possible to fix it during the work, you will need to start all over again.

Panel fixing methods

All subsequent PVC strips are installed in the same way: the comb is inserted into the groove, the fit is checked, and then the fixation is carried out. The most difficult to put in place is the last element. It is cut along the length, having previously measured the distances from both ends. It is possible that the walls are uneven, so the width may vary. For ease of installation, a gap of 1 cm is left, which will hide under the corner.

Installing the last strip

The cut panel is inserted into the fittings until it stops, then slides into the groove of the previous strip. To do this carefully, they use an ordinary knife, the tip of which slightly pushes the lock, where the spike of the last element will enter. It cannot be fixed in any way: on one side it is fixed in the lock of the lining, on the other - in the seat of the fittings.

After the walls are completely finished, they begin to sheath the boxes installed to hide communications. Carefully measure the required length of each strip, cut blanks. Fix in one of the ways: nails or staples. Finally, decorative corners are fixed to give a beautiful look.

Ceiling cladding begins after the completion of wall cladding. For lamps, holes of the required size are cut out in the panels. They do not forget to do the same before installing the lining on the walls - they provide places where sockets, switches, pipes, ventilation come out. They mark the attachment points of the sink, cabinets, and other equipment, so that later they do not have to search for rails designed to fix them.

The final chord in lining the toilet with panels is the installation of ceiling and floor skirting boards. Products from various materials are used: expanded polystyrene, ceramics. The easiest option is plastic outer corners, similar to those into the grooves of which the lining was inserted. They are fixed with glue at the joints. With good quality, it sets very quickly, so you should hurry so as not to dry out.

Making the design of the toilet with plastic panels is not very difficult. Everything will take two days, and the experience gained will allow you to decorate more complex rooms. A variety of colors and textures gives scope for imagination, and with a skillful approach, the room will be comfortable and expressive.

A bathroom is a very important room in any apartment, which is why many people are concerned about the question of how to finish the toilet. What is this room? As a rule, we are talking about a small, separate room for sanitary purposes, however, someone loves to retire here in order to be alone, just to read. That is why it is very important that the bathroom is distinguished not only by convenience, but also by cosiness, comfort, beauty.

Finishing steps

How to finish the toilet in the apartment? The scheme is something like this:

  • First work with the walls;
  • Then they make the ceiling;
  • After the floor covering is equipped.

A fairly common question is how to decorate a toilet other than tiles. In fact, the choice of finishing materials is great, but when working, it is important to take into account the fact that the level of humidity in this room is very high.

Like it or not, the main finishing material for bathrooms is still ceramic tiles. The tile is used for wall cladding, it is also chosen to cover the floors.

It is not difficult to explain such popularity - the tile responds perfectly to moisture, as well as open water, therefore, this is a very big plus. If you want to use some other option, you should pay attention to the plastic panels for finishing the toilet, but we will talk about this a little later.

Wall covering

Before talking about how to decorate a toilet other than tiles, let's talk about trends in this area. Bathrooms that look bright, beautiful, and tasteful are considered a good tone in our time. Tiling - this option can be called aesthetic, practical. However, if you pay attention to the cost, such a solution will not be cheap, the work will be quite time-consuming. It is important to remember when choosing tiles for the toilet that the room is not too spacious, therefore, it is worth abandoning dark colors - in order to prevent visual reduction of space. The ideal way: buying light-colored tiles - the dimensions will increase visually, as if “opening up” towards visitors.

What is also good, in our time, manufacturers make tiles of various characteristics - the choice is rich both in terms of texture and in shades, there are many decorative elements for tiles. To make the bathroom look cozier, it is recommended to select some combined options - to look bright, but not too catchy.

It is important to remember that the tile in the toilet often comes into contact with certain chemicals, therefore, the material must have moisture resistance, acid resistance.

An excellent option, for example, is a tile with high chemical resistance. A simpler solution, at the same time the most optimal and cheapest, is to decorate the toilet with plastic panels. To do this work, you do not need any serious skills. Let's talk about how to panel the toilet, what work needs to be done for this.

Wall decoration with plastic panels

How to finish the toilet with plastic panels? This is not difficult - first they make a crate: wooden blocks are attached to the walls of the bathroom, they should be 0.2 by 0.3 cm or so.

When the crate is completed, plastic panels are installed on it. For fastening, they usually choose a construction stapler - in this case, it turns out to work very conveniently and quickly.

Special transitional plastic corners are installed at the corners. You can choose plastic panels both by pattern and color, but the main advantage of this material is its excellent resistance to moisture. Of course, there are other finishing options - you can, for example, choose MDF lining: in this case, the bathroom will be decorated "under the wood."

The fact is that repair is a rather acute, painful topic for any modern person. It becomes especially disturbing in the soul when the repair will be carried out in the toilet or bathroom. If you choose traditional tiling, you will need a large amount of money - it is unlikely that the budget of an ordinary family will cope with such a “damage”.

If finances are limited, it's time to finish the toilet with PVC panels - this method is being chosen more and more often today when the question arises of how to finish the toilet other than tiles.

What are the advantages of PVC

In recent years, this finishing material has gained great popularity, but what is most interesting is that not every person knows about all its advantages.

  1. For example, the panels will not rot - even after a few years the material will not change its properties.
  2. Also, the panels are very beautiful, especially in modern design. You can hardly find anything better for the same price.
  3. Fast installation work: it does not take a lot of time to finish the toilet with PVC panels.

If the bathroom has a standard shape, and you have all the necessary materials and tools at hand, you can finish the cladding, if desired, in one day (of course, this does not include finishing). What can I say - efficiency today is a priority for many works, all the more you can forget about cement, tiles, and other tedious procedures.

What you need to work with PVC panels

First, select the panels themselves. Here everything can be done in accordance with your own tastes - the choice of color schemes is rich today, so everyone will find something interesting for themselves. It should also be remembered that it is imperative to purchase the necessary consumables, the necessary tools - without all this, it will hardly be possible to sheathe the walls of the toilet with plastic panels. What do you need to buy for cladding?

  • A quality utility knife: you need to make sure that it can cut panels optimally, without any effort. Thinking of using a kitchen knife for this job? It is possible and so, but at your own peril and risk - plastic, as a rule, quickly blunts metal, cut lines will also turn out to be crooked.
  • Self-tapping screws, screwdriver: during work, you will have to fasten panels to the crate. Dowels may also be required.
  • You need bars with a cross section of 3 by 10 cm, or you can choose an aluminum profile, the main thing is that it has a similar configuration.
  • If you plan to throw panels directly on the wall, you need to get liquid nails, a gun for their application, mounting foam.
  • Repair work should not be started without a tape measure, a building level, decorative skirting boards and profile corners.

Choice of paneling method

If the decision is made, it's time to find out how to panel the toilet. To begin with, it is worth understanding which method of fixing the panels on the walls to use. There are two possible ways:

  1. On a crate made of wood or a metal profile;
  2. With foam.

If the second option is chosen, it is worth buying cylinders on which the expiration date is “fresh”. In this case, the foam output will be much greater. Which method should you personally choose? If the bathroom in the apartment is spacious enough, there are even brick or concrete walls, it makes no sense to work on the crate. Plastic panels are best attached to liquid nails.

Be sure to keep in mind - in the process of work you will have to be patient, in a matter of seconds PVC does not stick. Moreover, you will need to either hold the panels yourself, or install spacers between the walls.

Gluing panels on liquid nails is nothing complicated in such work, so let's talk about how to work with the crate correctly.

Preparing for paneling

Before starting work, the toilet needs to be prepared - all trim elements that may interfere are removed, sockets and lighting devices are removed. If the work can be complicated by hoses or pipes, in an ideal situation it is better to dismantle it all, otherwise it will be much more difficult to finish the toilet with PVC panels.

There is another relevant remark - you can often stumble upon messages on the net, as if timber is not the best material for lathing. They write that it can deform, swell - because of this, the wall will immediately begin to look not very attractive. If indeed the humidity level in the room rises regularly, it is worth considering such statements: there is some common sense in them. But there is also a way out - just before sheathing the toilet with plastic panels, the timber is carefully processed: any antiseptic for wood is suitable for this. If the humidity level is normal, there is no reason to worry at all.

Starting work on finishing the bathroom with PVC panels

First, the crate is attached. Since almost always the panels will be located from top to bottom, it is necessary to fix the bars perpendicular to the floor. To do this job, dowels are usually used. Since something will also need to be done with the ceiling, the crate is also attached to it.

It is recommended to maintain a distance of up to 400-500 mm between individual bars. The correctness of fixing the bars is constantly monitored - this is done using the building level.

Before sheathing the toilet with plastic panels, you need to fix decorative profiles in the corners - the very ones where the corner panels will then be inserted.

Get to work from the corner. One edge of the PVC panel is inserted into the profile, after which the second side is attached to the screws.

The screw must be screwed into the lock, which is flexible and large.

How to cut plastic panels– many people ask this question. In fact, there is nothing complicated here: the panels are turned over with the wrong side out, laid on some solid base, then an incision is made with a clerical knife. It turns out a line, the panel breaks along it, the thin layer of plastic that remains is cut off with the same knife.

Already with the next panel, everything will be easier: it must be inserted until a distinct click occurs. Then re-attach with screws. You can finish the ceiling in the PVC toilet in the same way (if these works are in the plans, a profile should be installed on its surface). Further, you can take on decorative linings and skirting boards, with which you can easily hide defects, various technological gaps.

Something like this, everyone can finish the toilet with plastic panels. There are no special, insoluble difficulties in the work. The main thing in the process of execution is to carefully fasten the panels to each other - so that there are no gaps. It is better to put ceiling plinths on glue - they are needed only for decoration.

Finishing MDF panels (lining)

We have analyzed in detail how to panel a toilet, now a few words about MDF panels. These are very thin, light panels, the facing layer of which imitates expensive wood species. Often this finishing option is chosen for large toilets, or for those cases when you want to get a room decorated in a classic style.

What is good lining? The panels are moisture resistant, perfectly tolerate the effects of various microorganisms, harmful fungi - thanks to all this, MDF panels can be called hygienic, safe for domestic use.

Yes, this option in terms of cost will cost more than tile, but there is significant savings when compared with natural wood. In general, the walls in the bathroom can be whatever you want - the most important thing is that they are water resistant and smooth.

Wallpapering bathroom walls

If we consider the decoration of the walls of the toilet with wallpaper, we can say that this is the cheapest, fastest way to decorate the room. The main basic condition for such work is even, smooth walls. But there is one drawback - many wallpapers are very susceptible to a wet wall. If you choose wallpaper for finishing the toilet, then only moisture resistant or vinyl.

How to finish the ceiling of the toilet

Facing the ceiling of the bathroom is the second stage of repair work in this room. Everyone knows that the toilet is the place where you need to regularly perform wet cleaning. That is, the ideal solution for the top is a moisture-resistant ceiling. There are several options for finishing this place:

  • Moisture resistant drywall;
  • Plastic plates;
  • Suspended structures made of aluminium.

Today, stretch ceilings are often chosen. This tool is very attractive. What is most interesting, spotlights can be installed in a similar design. This is a big plus for small spaces - the fact is that light from the lamps is reflected on shiny surfaces, thanks to which the space can be optically expanded.

An alternative solution that will tell you how to finish the toilet is to equip the ceiling with foam plastic decorative plates. However, you can just paint the surface in some pretty color. Shelves in the bathroom, made of PVC panels - a really good, practical solution.

Floor cladding

Processing the floor begins at the final stage of repair in the toilet. Of course, the best suggestion is to tile the floor in the bathroom. This method looks great, it is very easy to clean if you use certain cleaning products. On the floor, the tiles are selected taking into account some requirements, for example, it should be well combined with the coating that is on the walls. The design, which was carefully chosen for laying tiles on the floor surface, will make the toilet more voluminous visually.

The floor in the toilet is often exposed to temperature changes, and high humidity is also observed here. In the toilet (when compared with the bathroom), only waterproofing can be performed - it is usually applied not only to the floor, but also to the surface of the walls - at least 20 cm.

The ideal solution is tiles in the toilet, both for the floor and for the walls. But there are also more economical, practical options, for example, linoleum. To carry out the laying of this material, special skills are not needed; these floors are easy to equip on their own. If you want the toilet to have a film underfloor heating, you should definitely implement it - it will be very comfortable in the room. At the end of laying the floor, skirting boards are installed. What is also interesting is that various communications usually lie in the toilet: sewer, water pipes, and so on. It is important to make the finish so that all these elements are hidden from view. But access to them should always be - if necessary, special doors are mounted so that you can quickly get to one or another communication node. Boxes are often made of plastic or moisture-resistant drywall, it is also finished - usually the same material is chosen as for wall cladding. This is the only way to achieve the ultimate goal - a practical, comfortable, comfortable bathroom in the apartment.

Video: toilet finishing

We bring to your attention an excellent video - how to decorate the toilet with your own hands. After viewing, everyone will understand that such works are not too complicated, so it is not so important to seek help from specialists.

I had to figure out how to sheathe the toilet with panels, as they say, in an "emergency order": it became necessary to bring the bathroom into a usable condition as soon as possible, while the budget was minimal.

After studying the literature and consulting with experts, I set to work. The result turned out to be quite acceptable, so in this article I will talk about those nuances that a novice master should pay attention to.

Finishing material

Plastic lining and other consumables

If the task is to complete the decoration quickly and inexpensively, then the best option would be to sheath the walls with plastic panels. This technology does not contain the so-called "wet" stages, therefore, in the process of work, you do not have to wait until the solution or glue dries.

  1. The cladding material is polymer panels, the standard length of which is 2.5 - 3 m.
  2. Inside, the panels are made hollow, which reduces their weight, while increasing heat and sound insulation characteristics.

Most models of plastic lining can still hardly be called a good heat insulator, therefore, in cold rooms, I would recommend mounting a layer of moisture-resistant insulation under the skin.

  1. The long sides of each panel are designed in the form of tongue-and-groove locks. The presence of these locks makes it possible to tightly fit the parts to each other, avoiding the appearance of cracks, while maintaining the mobility necessary to compensate for thermal expansion.
  2. Special adapters are used to fasten products to solid surfaces and to connect them at an angle. Their range is quite extensive, so you can easily find the part you need on sale.

  1. The surface of the panels can be smooth or textured. Products with applied texture look more attractive, but require more thorough care: dirt accumulates in the recesses on the surface, so you will have to wash the bathroom lining more often and more diligently.
  2. Coloring of products can also be very different. The cheap segment is represented by plain plastic, but I still like panels with imitation of stone or wood. Yes, they are more expensive, but this finish looks more expressive.

In addition to the plastic itself and additional elements, we will need other materials. The approximate cost of raw materials for lining the toilet is given in the table:

As you can see, most consumables are not very expensive, so it is advisable to purchase them with a small margin. I usually take 15-20% more than what is calculated.

Benefits of paneling

Plastic panels, as a finishing material for bathrooms, have a number of objective advantages:

  1. The cost of finishing will be really very low.. It would probably be cheaper to just paint the walls, but this is only possible if they are perfectly even. Otherwise, we will spend a lot of time and money on plastering and puttying.
  2. The finishing technique does not involve the use of expensive components and complex tools. Yes, and plastic is not very demanding on the skills of the master: the usual skill is enough, and you can figure out how to mount the panels more correctly in the process. Fortunately, the installation technology allows you to correct the mistakes made.

  1. The surface trimmed with plastic receives a fairly effective protection against moisture, since the skin is highly tight. At the same time, the panels themselves do not swell or deform in a humid environment.
  2. Finally, plastic can be washed regularly that for the toilet is a prerequisite for maintaining a sanitary condition.

By cons, I would attribute it to the most presentable view: after all, it is better to use panels for cladding a bathroom either in a typical apartment or in a country house, but for a house with a good repair, you should choose a more expensive finish. The strength of the material is also relatively low, but to compensate for this shortcoming, it is enough to know a few tricks, which I will discuss below.

Work technology

Room preparation

If the walls in the toilet are fairly even, then the panels can simply be glued on non-load-bearing surfaces. But this situation is very rare, because a significant part of the time it takes to repair the bathroom will take preparation for the sheathing.

We act like this:

  1. We knock down the old finish, exposing the concrete or brick base. The facing from the tile is also subject to removal: if this is not done, then sooner or later the tile will begin to fall off already under the skin.

Strongly adhering paint and plaster, which is not going to crumble, I usually leave solely in order to save time. Even if under the plastic they begin to exfoliate and fall off, it will still not be visible, and this will not affect the functionality of the finish.

  1. Check the wall for cracks. The detected defects are embroidered, cleaned of debris and filled with a repair compound. Suitable cement mortar or cheap tile.
  2. So that fungi and bacteria do not develop under the plastic panels, we treat all surfaces with an antiseptic primer. I usually do two impregnations with an interval of 6 - 12 hours: this time is just enough for the material to dry.

  1. If it is also planned to cover the ceiling, we stretch the wiring in advance to connect the built-in lights. We put the wires in special casings that protect against moisture, and fasten them to the ceiling on plastic clamps or wire hangers.

frame

Further, the instruction involves the installation of a frame to which a plastic lining will be attached. For the manufacture of the supporting crate, you can use either wooden bars (cheaper, but you need to impregnate with an antiseptic), or metal profiles (more expensive, but they do not corrode and allow you to form a significant gap between the skin and walls).

I prefer the wood version. I work according to the following scheme:

  1. I treat wooden bars with antiseptic impregnation, dry them for 12 hours and cut them to size.
  2. I apply the beam to the wall, drill holes in it with a drill, then through the holes I put marks on the wall and already on them with a puncher with a drill for concrete I make nests for fasteners.
  3. Since the panels are mounted vertically, I place the frame parts horizontally, in increments of about 50 cm. The optimal solution is to lay the crate belts at the height of the knee, hip and shoulder: this way we guarantee that the plastic will not be damaged during awkward movement.
  4. After drilling the holes, I hammer plastic dowels into them. I apply the bars and fix them with locking screws, slightly sinking their hats into the wood.
  5. Separately, I attach several thick boards to the wall, securely installing them with the help of several anchors. I mark the position of these parts on the drawing with an accuracy of a centimeter - it is to them that the hinged elements will subsequently be attached (washstand, shelf, mirror, mount for a brush, etc.).

  1. In the same way I do the crate on the ceiling. For laying casings with cables, I cut grooves in the beams of such a size that the wires are not pinched.
  2. Sometimes the question arises - how to sheathe pipes in the toilet with plastic panels. If the riser is located in a niche, then there are no problems - we just close it with a crate. But the sewer pipes along the wall need to be masked with a separate box - for this I install a vertical bar, which I fix on the floor and on the ceiling with metal corners, and then I make a crate under the panels.

To provide access to pipelines, a square of thin timber must be laid in the lower part of the box, to which an inspection hatch will then be attached.

In principle, a steel profile frame is made according to the same scheme - with the only difference being that working with metal with your own hands is somewhat more difficult than with wood. However, if you dealt with drywall, then no difficulties are expected for you.

Sheathing and finishing

When the frame is ready, you can start lining the toilet. The room is small, so the work will not take much time:

  1. We install starting profiles at the corners, carefully leveling them and fixing them to the crate with glue, self-tapping screws or staples.
  2. Along the perimeter of the room in the upper part we fix the ceiling profile, which will serve to connect the vertical and horizontal cladding.
  3. We cut the first panel in height (the part should be about 5 mm less than the height of the room - this gap will ensure unhindered temperature deformation). We insert the panel with the spike of the lock into the starting profile in the far corner and carefully align it vertically.

  1. We fix the free edge of the panel to the frame using either self-tapping screws, or glue, or a stapler. I consider the latter method to be preferable: both quickly and simply, and if necessary, you can disassemble the structure with minimal damage to the material. At the same time, the upper edge of the lining is inserted into the groove of the ceiling plinth.

  1. We insert the next panel with a spike into the groove of the already installed one. Repeat alignment and fixation. We continue to gain panels until we reach the corner.
  2. We cut the last panel lengthwise (we cut soft plastic with a paint knife, hard plastic with a file with fine teeth) and insert it into the starting profile without fastening, simply bending along the length.

  1. By the same principle, we sheathe the walls, the ceiling and the box that masks the sewer pipe. In the ceiling panels, according to the markup, we make holes for installing built-in ones.
  2. We install an inspection hatch on the pipe box.
  3. We fix skirting boards from below, masking the bottom edge of the panels. We seal all cracks with moisture-resistant silicone.

Conclusion

When deciding how to sheathe a toilet in an apartment, you should first of all consider the possibility of using plastic lining.
