  • What features does a Provence-style apartment have?
  • How to design a kitchen in Provence style
  • How to decorate a bedroom in Provence style
  • How to decorate a bathroom in Provence style

Light, southern Provence style combines the simplicity of the centuries-old traditions of French country houses and the imperishable beauty of the Cote d'Azur. The Provence style apartment will become great choice for lovers of country music, connoisseurs of rustic charm and elegance of French estates.

Provence style features in the apartment

The name of the Provence style was given by a small province in the south of France, which was glorified by the picturesque seascapes, the heady aroma of flowers, bleached bright sun streets and spicy cuisine. The French bourgeoisie of the 17th century, tired of the bustle of the city and classic design, began to populate a remote province. Local beauties and measured village life inspired people to equip their homes simply, but very elegantly.

The design of the apartment in Provence style permeates the freshness of the salty breeze, the piquancy of the famous Provence herbs and the bewitching aroma of lavender. This style harmoniously combines provincial comfort and elegant luxury of antiquity. The ideas of Provence are in many ways consonant with the country style, but they add the sophistication of the French estate, romance and airiness.

Provence style apartment design stands out:

  • warm pastel colors;
  • plastered walls;
  • natural structure of natural materials;
  • aged furniture with artificial scuffs, wood carvings or patina;
  • an abundance of flowers: live and dried compositions;
  • porcelain and ceramic figurines;
  • ceiling wooden beams;
  • forged decorative elements;
  • sewing, ruffles, cutwork embroidery;
  • floral patterns.

The modern interior, made in the French Provence style, is characterized by an abundance of light, warm natural shades, simplicity and comfort. Urban residents in Moscow are increasingly using the Provence style in the interior of apartments; it has long ceased to be rustic.

Filling your home with the atmosphere of Provence is available to everyone. It doesn't require overhaul or complete remodeling. It is enough to complement the atmosphere of the apartment with some distinctive interior details, and natural fabrics, natural materials and light color solutions from a small amount bright inclusions will create the necessary associations.

Provence has a warm, serene coastline feel to it. It is no coincidence that this style is filled with soothing, pastel, sun-bleached tones. Preference is given to soft and delicate shades of various colors:

  1. white;
  2. sand;
  3. cream;
  4. muted yellow;
  5. light blue;
  6. pale green;
  7. lavender.

A special place is occupied by shades of dried clay and a dense color of the sea wave. This color scheme should be observed when decorating an apartment in the Provence style, and when choosing decorative elements and textiles. It is preferable to choose a slightly brighter furniture so that it harmoniously stands out against the pastel background of the walls. The presence of scuffs, irregularities and decorative cracks will enhance the desired effect and create the impression that the hot southern sun has scorched the surfaces.

Kitchen in a Provence style apartment

A large number of the colors of Provence mentioned above are appropriate to create the most authentic interior in the kitchen of a country house. Lighter proportions of these colors look better in city apartments.

It is preferable to decorate a small Provence-style kitchen in light colors. Walls, ceiling, large furniture white color will visually increase the space and compensate for insufficient natural light. For the floor, beige, brown or terracotta shades. Decorative elements and accents should be made in lavender, olive, ocher or any other color of Provence.

A harmonious combination of warm and cold shades helps to create a pleasing to the eye color scheme. But what tone should prevail in the design of the basic interior of an apartment in the Provence style - warm or cold - depends on the location of the rooms relative to the cardinal points.

If the kitchen windows face south or southwest and the room most day is flooded with sunlight, it is better to decorate the interior mainly in cold shades - blue, light blue. Suitable and neutral - green, light gray.

For dark kitchen with insufficient natural light warm and light colors are ideal. These are the colors of Provence - shades of terracotta, ocher, white, beige, lilac, pink and yellow. They, like the rays of the sun, will decorate your kitchen with tenderness and warmth.

The look of true French provincial cuisine is usually quite dilapidated and understated. Irregularly plastered walls, cracked whitewashed ceilings, wooden beams, rough terracotta floors all fill the house with the charm of antiquity.

However, the recreation of such an environment and decoration is appropriate only in the kitchen of a Russian country house. In a city apartment, such antiquity will look unnatural and tasteless. You can emphasize the charm of Provence with traditional and natural materials.

The ideal solution for the walls of a Provence-style apartment would be simple plaster or painting with matte or semi-gloss paint. It is practical and closest to the original. If you choose wallpaper, be sure to have a classic pattern: floral print, monograms, blue and white plot or pattern, stripes or Vichy check.

Brickwork will harmoniously fit into the interior, if it is natural. Allowed and encouraged artificial aging brick or its painting. When choosing such a Provence-style apartment design element, it is important to remember that masonry visually reduces space. In a small kitchen, facing one wall or some of its fragments is enough.

To finish the working panel in the kitchen, the most practical, affordable and authentically Provencal option is suitable - ceramic tile. Give preference to any "rustic" design options, various floral or plant patterns, all types of terracotta, square tiles etc.

Ordinary whitewashing and painting will become the best option ceiling finishes. And even the possible appearance of cracks over time will only improve it. appearance, because for the Provence style this is not a defect, but a virtue. High ceiling it is appropriate to decorate with beams made of natural wood.

As a floor covering, it is better to choose wood or ceramic tiles. Provencal style does not allow glossy surfaces. It is better to choose a tile that is matte and a little rough, and a laminate with artificial scuffs and dilapidation.

Dining and kitchen furniture for a Provence-style apartment must be chosen by all means wooden, wicker rattan or forged, made in a classic style, aged or defiantly rough. For facades, a panel is required, welcome glass inserts And metal grid as in the photo.

A special element of the Provence style are open shelves or cabinets. They visually lighten the interior, give it a certain airiness, but at the same time require frequent wet cleaning.

Stools, chairs and semi-chairs can be very different: wooden, rattan (wicker), metal, forged, plywood, with upholstered or without it. Chairs of assorted models are welcome. dining tables must be either massive, or, conversely, very light.

Provence style bedroom

When renovating a Provence-style apartment in Moscow, designers recommend using natural materials to decorate the bedroom. However, wood and stone are expensive and not accessible to everyone, so it is permissible to replace them with analogues - artificial stone and veneer. Provence style is not characterized by smooth surfaces. The roughness of the coating emphasizes the natural naturalness, so it is better to plaster the walls and whitewash the ceiling. The walls, made by French craftsmen, were decorated with floral patterns. You can try to recreate this beauty with stencils or pick up paper wallpaper with a pattern in the style of Provence.

Pay attention to tension frosted ceilings. Thanks to the matte texture, they perfectly imitate whitewashing, the film canvas is unpretentious in care and durable.

Better for the floor light parquet or laminate in wood color. Looks original and stylish carpet covering with burlap effect. You can cover the entire floor with carpet or put a carpet on top of the parquet. Make the floor plain if everything else is saturated with prints. More modest walls and furniture will decorate the floor with an ornament.

Most main subject furniture in any bedroom is a bed. Made in the Provence style, it should be somewhat rough, massive, natural shade or unevenly colored. Permissible addition carved patterns, three-dimensional decorative elements. But choose a closet and a chest of drawers, be sure to be low, on graceful figured legs. The decoration of their facades with floral and vegetable paintings is welcome.

The interior of the apartment in Provence style will be ideally decorated with vintage furniture. Walking through antique shops, you can find great options. However, it is easy to add age to furniture artificially. It is enough to take paints of similar shades, cover them with a cabinet or bed in several layers and with the help of sand or sandpaper wipe the corners.

A spectacular decoration of the bedroom, made in the style of Provence, will be metal bed with wrought iron headboard. Emphasizing the rustic charm, it will add a bright touch in combination with the rest of the wooden furniture.

Concerning artificial lighting, then here you should adhere to the classical traditions of style. A forged chandelier located in the center of the ceiling will perfectly emphasize the Provencal style. Light bulbs made in the form of candles look very impressive. As an addition, you can hang a sconce of the same design, a floor lamp or a table lamp with a lampshade made of multi-colored textiles with a floral or floral print.

Bathroom in a Provence style apartment

When decorating the interior of a Provence-style apartment bathroom, try to create the effect of a single space. Choose for walls, floors, ceilings finishing material the same texture and texture. The Provencal painting of the interior welcomes the subtle borders that appear as a result of finishing the lower part of the wall and floor in one color, and the ceiling and upper part of the wall in another.

Choose a matte tile for a Provencal-style bathroom, because the originality of this trend does not accept modern fashion trends involving the use of glossy glazed tiles. The walls of the bathroom, finished with textured decorative plaster, with brickwork barely noticeable through the expressive veins and roughness, will look relevant.

Looks original masonry covering the installation area of the bath. Harmoniously echoing the flooring of plain matt porcelain tiles, it emphasizes the Provencal style. When choosing natural stone for wall decoration, leave the material in its natural state, do not use decorative plaster or paint.

The ideas of Provence are based on creating an environment as close as possible to the natural habitat. Therefore, when decorating a large or small Provence-style apartment, natural materials are used: wood, stone, ceramics, glass, etc.

When designing a Provence-style bathroom, select a sink, font, faucet, bidet toilet and other plumbing fixtures so that they combine with each other and have distinctive style features - these are:

  • round shape;
  • the presence of curved supports;
  • decorating with details with the effect of antiquity (brass, copper or silver plating).

All details of the bathroom interior should harmoniously overlap with each other. Faucets for sinks, bathtubs, bidets should represent one the lineup, stylized antique, with a rounded faucet and massive valves. A snow-white faience or marble volumetric sink will help to focus on the concept of Provence. You need to choose a suitable cabinet for it, which will withstand the load of a massive sink. For its manufacture, an oak massif or teak is optimal. Outwardly, the cabinet may look like a secretary or a compact console.

Provence-style apartments are inconceivable without a large amount of decor and accessories that emphasize the charm of this interior trend. This also applies to the bathroom. The finishing touches of the Provencal picture will be linen curtains on the window or a rack, a mirror framed in a frame decorated with shells, multi-colored rugs on chairs, forged towel holders, hanging planters, etc.

Meanwhile, it is filled with incredible romance and charm of the French villages, which can bring life to even the most gloomy apartments. And our tips will help you with this!

Style Features

The style came to us from France, that part of it that is known to people who have ever traveled outside the capital. One has only to look at the endless lavender fields, refreshing azure shores, endless blue sky - and it immediately becomes clear what inspired these bright pastel shades, unobtrusive patterns, smooth lines, as well as love for everything natural in Provencal interiors.

confusion with classic style among ignorant people it is not accidental - Provence really has similar features. You should not think that the rural origin makes the direction provincial. The simplicity of Provence gives it a feeling of comfort, and its complexity lies in luxury and sophistication.

The style loves space and freedom, so for small spaces it is better to choose a different solution or to enter only a few elements, simplifying the design. It is desirable that all the premises of an apartment or house be decorated in a single theme, creating a holistic composition.

So, when planning a design, you should rely on a light, pastel range, in which white is present. It can be a bouquet of pink, light green, lavender, blue shades, "seasoned" with a variety of patterns or textures of natural materials. The latter are an indispensable companion of Provence, which, having originated in the bewitching French nature, does not tolerate artificial options.

Furniture filling has a classic sophistication and beauty, often painted white. According to the style rules, the space should be filled mainly with antiques bought at auctions, but few can afford such a luxury. To avoid unnecessary spending necessary furniture in the Provence style can also be purchased at the flea market or ordered from the master, using the effect of artificial aging.

To create a cozy atmosphere in the interior should be as possible more details- that's why big square is an important requirement. Drawings, figurines, forged elements, soft fabrics and, of course, plants - perfect combination for Provence. The completion of this composition will be a great abundance natural light.

Finishes and materials

But before filling the room with objects, it is necessary to create the right “frame” for them. Provence, although a simple style, puts forward clear rules for each part of the space.

Floor

The floor covering for the interior in the Provence style should be plank, wooden, with paint applied on top. Ideally, if it contains small, but safe for movement, irregularities or defects that have arisen from the effects of time.

If the authentic option does not suit you for a number of reasons, choose a more budget-friendly wood-look laminate. It does not look so spectacular, but to divert attention, the floor can be covered with a carpet.

Walls

Interior partitions can also afford not to be perfect - bumps, scuffs and bare brickwork in high esteem, but only if it looks neat. A layer of light, often white, paint is applied to such a coating.

The best materials for wall decoration are gypsum, plaster or molding. Wallpaper is also characteristic of Provence, but only if they are decorated with floral patterns.

Ceiling

The ceiling beams brought to the fore can not be hidden - they will become the highlight of the Provencal interior. But if your home does not have such elements, ideal option remains a smooth white coating with decoration in the form of an elegant chandelier.

Provence style furniture

Provencal furniture bears the imprint of history, singing the beauty of classical antiquity. It is predominantly wooden, less often - wicker furniture, which is not rarely decorated with forging elements. Objects are painted in white or pastel shades, through the paint of which a colorful, worn texture appears. Drawings or upholstery with floral patterns act as decor.

The furniture set is not limited to standard items necessary for life. You can't do without low chests of drawers, sideboards or elegant sideboards. In general, mundane objects on legs, which seem to be bent from gravity, are typical for the Provence-style interior, and are also used not only in the living room, but also in other rooms. small sofas and stools throughout the house seem to remind you of the importance of relaxation, measured contemplation of the surrounding beauty.

Forged openwork details traditionally decorate the bed, but can also be used for stairs or smaller items, such as lamps. Only they should not create a feeling of pomposity, but on the contrary - French playfulness.

Textile and decor

The most interesting part design that will "breathe" life into the Provencal interior - these are decorative details. And although they are limited by the rules standard for style, the variability of application fascinates even experienced designers.

Firstly, the curtains are light, airy, not preventing the penetration of natural light. Depending on the room and the size of the windows, you can purchase classic, Austrian curtains or cafe curtains. In this matter, an important role is played by the material - cotton, linen, always something natural.

The fabric can be plain, in a "flower" or "cell", but this choice should harmonize the interior. Approximately the same criteria apply to bed linen.

Art lovers can fill the room with their collections of impressionistic or realistic paintings - they will look appropriate here. Graceful gilded frames stand out brightly in pastel Provence.

Classic fragile chandeliers and candelabra will help create a romantic atmosphere. And don't forget the wooden framed mirrors.

Numerous shelves, tables and tables can be decorated with cute trinkets: painted vases, caskets, fruit bowls, photographs, all kinds of figurines or napkins. The main thing is to be able to stop in time without overloading the composition.

Provence in the interior - photo

And although the listed rules are universal, Provence-style interior design will differ slightly depending on the type of room. But a few tips and photos are sure to give you a good idea!

Provence style kitchen design

The Provence-style kitchen is spacious, bright, often combined with a dining room. Cooking area separates from dining area countertop or island bar counter. Designers face a difficult task, because it is necessary to harmoniously fit household appliances into a classic, rustic interior so that it doesn't look out of place. To do this, modern items are often hidden in lockers or disguised as antique ones.

Choosing dishes and others kitchen utensils, do not forget that they, exposed in plain sight, are part of the decor. Painted plates, wooden spatulas or herb jars will look very cozy. It is better to hang “cafe” curtains on small windows.

Provence style living room design

The traditional living room includes a sofa, several armchairs, a table, a wall and, if space permits, ottomans or bedside tables. Such furniture suggests that in addition to watching TV, you will spend time reading books, and maybe knitting.

Speaking of the TV, it is unlikely that you can hide it, but you can choose a minimalist model that will not attract undue attention.

It would be appropriate to look at a small rug with a burlap effect, floor lamps, as well as pots with plants.

Provence style bedroom design

The bedroom, as a resting place, can be furnished with fewer items. Authentic for Provence looks like a bed with a wrought-iron headboard, painted white and covered with snow-white sheets. For a change, textiles can be with a floral pattern or lace inserts.

A grounded chest of drawers opposite the bed will fit perfectly into a large bedroom. Girls can please themselves with a dressing table - as in the houses of noble ladies. Airy classic curtains complete the overall composition.

Provence style bathroom design

The canonical Provence style bathroom is a work of art. And if in other rooms you can still somehow deal with a small area, then here you simply cannot do without free space.

The presence of a window - although inconvenient for apartment owners, but very important detail. It allows you to get closer to nature, creating the most natural atmosphere for hygiene procedures. For the same reason, natural materials are used, despite the high humidity in the room.

Ceramic tiles should be matte. It can be finished, for example, only the lower section of the walls. The rest is decorative plaster or painted brickwork.

The traditional clawfoot tub is considered obligatory element. But it is better to forget about the shower stall. Otherwise, the filling of the room can meet the needs of the owners.

Small kitchens have an area of less than 10 square meters. m., so it is difficult to turn around in them. And if you want to create nice interior, then be sure to think about Provence.

This style looks great in a small kitchen, because it is dominated by light shades and a large number of light, so it seems that the room is very spacious.

Style features

  1. Light shades and naturalness.
  2. Demonstration of dishes and accessories using open cabinets.
  3. Lots of additional elements decorations (bouquets, ceramic figurines, photographs, kitchen dishes, themed hours, etc.).
  4. Wooden or tile floor.
  5. Lots of textiles and light.
  6. Antique or aged furniture.

Buying an apartment in Khrushchev and creating a functional kitchen in it is real.

Choosing shades for decoration

This style is filled with rustic simplicity and incredible tenderness, so to create a small Provence-style kitchen, you should choose all shades of white, lilac, pink, olive, and blue. Bright accent can be made using beautiful natural textiles (linen tablecloths and napkins, light curtains and other elements).

If snow-white or cream-colored walls seem boring to you, then be sure to create an accent on one of them, using wallpaper with colorful floral patterns, ornaments or tiles with a beautiful themed pattern. Shades should be in harmony with each other, complementing the main color.

Materials that can be used

For this style, it is necessary to use mainly natural materials, namely:

  • textile;
  • paper wallpaper, ceramic tiles, finishing plaster;
  • furniture made of wood, natural stone, glass;
  • floor made from wooden boards or tiles;
  • wooden doors and window frames painted white.

Light roughness should prevail in all elements of furnishings and finishes: raw wood, aged furniture, decorative plaster on the walls, retro textiles, ceiling beams.

The main highlight of the design is the many accessories placed in the room in an involuntary order. Of course, in a small kitchen there is no room for bulky figurines or floor vases, but you can replace them with ceramic figurines, small bouquets of dried lavender, bright curtains in wall cabinets or napkins.

Furniture

Can be ordered designer furniture from famous Italian manufacturer, which is made from an array of wood. But if the budget is limited, then opt for furniture made in the CIS countries - ZOV, Geos Ideal, Maria. It is advisable to use at least 1 open wall cabinet in which you can display dishes, ceramic figurines or family photos. If you do not find such a cabinet, then a model with glass doors can replace it.

The interior needs to be complemented with elegant chair cushions, ruffled curtains, a flirty tablecloth with a pattern of small flowers. It is from the little things that this style consists, because it is dominated by brass handles, graceful ceiling lights, a variety of shelves, chests of drawers, kitchen utensils, themed paintings ...

For example, an old basket that you are going to send to the farthest drawer can be used in this style. Put a lavender bouquet in it, intercepted by a ribbon, and then set this beautiful composition on the dining table.

All furniture and appliances are white, the chairs are transparent. Purple wall depicting Paris.

And again, the site about small interiors is glad to welcome its regular readers. Today we will talk about the beautiful Provence style, settled in one of the small apartments.

Designed by the owner herself. It took her about a year to effectively arrange her nest. She began her work with the redevelopment of the apartments - she combined the kitchen with the living room, which slightly reduced the area of the bedroom.

For her small apartment, the author chose refined style provence: spectacular harmony of beige and purple hues in the kitchen, a sofa in the color of juicy lavender, whitewashed brickwork immerses in the beauty of French country and fills the space with elusive romantic notes.

Original wicker baskets for dishes and other trifles necessary in the household, as well as an elegant hand-painted hood - all this characteristics inherent in this sophisticated style.

Every centimeter of the area is involved in the apartments, including in the balcony area. It was set up as a small home gym.

In such small apartment best solution it would be to change the usual spacious bed for a folding place to sleep, but the hostess did not like this choice. A way out was found - the bed was “raised” to a level of about one meter, and spacious storage systems were located under it.

In the sleeping area, the usable area was increased thanks to the window sill, which became the place of creativity of the hostess. The woman is engaged in needlework and has long dreamed of organizing a personal corner for work in the apartment. Under it, on both sides of the battery, functional baskets were attached for storing accessories and fittings.

Instead of bulky wardrobes, a comfortable dressing area was installed. To organize a cozy place in the bathroom for washing machine, I had to push the boundaries of the room a little.
