After all, the "life" period of greenery is short and it must be sold immediately after harvesting.

Ways to market green onions:

    Retail sale on the market.

Suitable for selling small batches, for example, if you grow several types of greens and vegetables in a greenhouse.

    Through the Internet.

Usually, individuals purchase greens in small batches due to the short shelf life.

But for drying, home preservation or other purposes, customers can look for direct suppliers.

So they receive guarantees of maximum quality and freshness of the goods.

You can find buyers via the Internet: create a website, place ads on boards, communicate on specialized forums.

    Shops and supermarkets.

The main channel for wholesale distribution of products.

It is important that there is registration and certificates for the goods.

Otherwise, green onions can only be sold to small retail outlets.

    Cafes and restaurants.

They also order greens from suppliers regularly and in large quantities.

What is special about growing green onions for sale?

Growing green onions in the greenhouse has some subtleties that can only be learned through practice.

Or from those who have already been engaged in such a business.

Three main tips from the experts:

    Disease prevention.

If you have not yet dealt with the cultivation of greens, then you have no idea how destructive diseases can be!

Almost instantly, the focus of infection spreads to plants, destroying them and disfiguring them.

Lost in attention preventive measures, you can lose the entire crop of green onions in 1-2 days.

    commodity condition.

Each onion variety has its own ripening phase.

This is something to keep in mind when planting bulbs and planning your schedule.

While you wait for full ripening, some of the goods may deteriorate and lose their condition.

However, in the absence of assistants, it is difficult to harvest on your own.

Therefore, even when planting planting material of the same variety, take breaks between sections of 5-7 days.

So the green onions will “keep up” gradually, and you will always have goods for sale in the state of the desired condition.

    Preparation for sale.

It is important to offer customers not only fresh, healthy, but also beautiful green onions.

This fact is not a basic requirement.

And yet the goods for sale must be cleaned of dirt, bulbs, bundled and neatly packaged.

At this stage, the question of the need to hire assistants is once again raised.

This can be avoided by involving family members in the work.

It is good if the trays stand on the window on the south side, although this is not essential. Sunlight will come from any direction.

  • If there is not enough light in winter, it is really possible to use a lamp in the form of a backlight.
  • From a lack of light, green feathers will turn yellow and fade.
  • Moderate watering is possible, excess moisture will cause root rot.

In general, there are no difficulties in growing it. Landed in different dates, the onion will regularly produce a crop. While shoots are formed in one tray, it will already grow in the second good greens, which can be cut for salads.

How to grow onions on the windowsill?

Surely many are familiar with the method of growing in a glass. big harvest cannot be achieved by this method. Another thing is if you plant the bulbs in a flat tray so that a lot of seeds can fit in there. You can drop him off flower pots but not very deep.

Entrepreneurial people who have nothing to lose for this purpose use food containers and plastic bottles. There are no fundamental rules for choosing containers, anything will do. So that the water does not stagnate, you need a pallet and holes at the bottom of the bottom.

On sale are widely presented flat plastic containers in which you can grow any greens. They are sold already with pallets. The old fashioned way trays are knocked out wooden planks. Using plastic bottles, they are often cut across. For this purpose, bottles of 3-5 liters are well suited.

bulb care rules

Care for seedlings in the same way as for indoor flowers. Watering is carried out as moisture evaporates. Green feathers love to be sprayed with water. In the warm season, the window must be ventilated, Fresh air will be very useful for greenery.

If desired, the trays can be taken out to a ventilated balcony. Due to the rare planting, loosening the soil is not worth it. As for fertilizers, if the soil is good, it will be enough to fertilize during watering.

fit mineral fertilizers for indoor flowers. The simplest top dressing can be prepared independently. Have to take eggshell and fill it with water. Keep a jar of water and shells for 5-7 days.

With spraying from a spray bottle, you need to be careful in the summer, the sun scorching outside the window can leave burns.

Growing onions as a business: what to grow and how?

For the purpose of sale, you can grow different bow: onion or feather. And each of these species has its own characteristics in cultivation, sale, circulation. All this affects the business, its expenses and income. To show good example on specific numbers, we took as the basis of our article the most common and unpretentious onion - onion.
Onions are grown in warm conditions. It will take about 4 months for it to fully mature. During this time, young feathers can be cut from it and sold, and after the expiration of the term, the root crops themselves can be put up for sale.

Grow onion easier from purchased sevka - these are already formed young bulbs, which in 1 week will already let the first shoots to the surface. average price purchase of onion sets - 100 rubles per 1 kg. For such a business, you will need at least 200 kg, it will cost 20,000 rubles.

What else is needed to grow onions?

Of course, land is required. Onions should be planted at the rate of 200 g of sevka per 1 m2. That is, for our 200 kg, you will need 1000m2, or 10 acres of land.
In a business like growing onions, in addition to the “embryos” themselves, fertilizers will be required. By itself, the onion culture is unpretentious, but fertilizers are also indispensable. Here's what we'll need:
Superphosphate (30g per m2)
Potassium chloride (17g per m2)
Nitrogen fertilizers (8gr per m2)
Phosphorus fertilizer (10g per m2)
Potash fertilizers (10g per m2)
On average, for each m2 the price of all the above fertilizers together will be about 15 rubles. And for fertilizing the entire plot for 1000m2 - 15,000 rubles.

Summarizing all costs

Given the above information, to grow onions on 10 acres of land, we need:
Onion sets, 200 kg - 20,000 rubles.
Fertilizers - 15,000 rubles
Total: 35,000 rubles

Profit from the sale of onions

From a planted set, a full-fledged onion grows in 4 months on average. The yield is about 7 kg per m2, that is, from ten acres after 4 months we will collect 7 tons. The average selling price of onions is 20 rubles per 1 kg. It turns out that the sale of 7 tons at a retail price will bring us an income of 140,000 rubles.
Do not forget about a secondary method of making a profit - the sale of green onion feathers. In our case, in 4 months from 1 m2 you can get 0.5 kg of greenery, and from the entire site - 500 kg. At a price of 150 rubles per 1 kg, you can get 75,000 rubles from the entire green crop.

We get that the income for 4 months from 10 acres is 215,000 rubles, and the net profit is 190,000 rubles.
It is much easier for residents of warm regions to do such a business, but also for those living in middle lane do not despair. By increasing the volumes in our scheme, you can secure a profit for yourself in one summer, which is enough for a whole year.

In the article we talk about onions on the windowsill. We will consider the features of preparing and planting a plant, caring for and harvesting. You will learn which varieties are suitable for growing onions on the windowsill. Following our tips, you will learn how to grow greens at home in water and soil.

Varieties of onions for growing on the windowsill

For growing onions on the windowsill, ordinary onions are used. If desired, at home, you can grow shallots, chives, or batun. In this article we will tell you how to plant onions at home.

At any time of the year, you can eat fresh herbs if you plant onions on the windowsill.

To get a fertile onion crop in winter on the windowsill, it is better to choose multi-bearing varieties.. For example, Chernigov, Rostov, Soyuz, Bessonovsky, Timiryazevsky, Spassky. The bulbs of these varieties have several nests inside, which, when germinated, give a lot of green feathers.

Preparing bulbs for planting

Before planting onions on greens on the windowsill, you need to choose high-quality planting material. Turnips should be healthy, without traces of decay, onion peels should be shiny.

To quickly grow green onions on the windowsill, the tops of the turnips must be cut off.. Deep cross-shaped incisions at the top of the bulb up to a third of its height can accelerate the appearance of greenery.

Onions for greens on the windowsill can be grown from already sprouted onions. So green feathers will appear much faster.

Before growing onions on the windowsill, turnips are soaked in a weak solution of potassium permanganate for 20 minutes. The temperature of the liquid for soaking is 50-52 degrees. The bulbs are then washed cold water and cleared of husks.

Soil preparation

Before you grow green onions on the windowsill, you need to decide on the capacity for planting. When deciding what to plant onions on the windowsill, one should proceed from its size and the amount of planting material. More often, onions are planted in pots, and if space allows - in boxes.

After you have decided what to plant onions on the windowsill in, the container must be disinfected. For this, a weak solution of potassium permanganate is suitable.

For rapid growth the plant needs drainage, so before planting onions on the greenery of the house, pieces of expanded clay or bricks are placed on the bottom of the container. A mixture of seven parts of peat, two parts of humus and one part of earth is poured on top.

To increase the yield of green onions in winter, use on the windowsill phosphate fertilizers. They are also applied to the soil before planting.

Bulb Planting Scheme

For growing onions at home, the bridge planting method is most often used. With this method, turnips are planted tightly to each other. The bulbs are sprinkled with earth, but not completely buried. Half or ⅔ of the turnip should remain on the surface.

In order to save space, a 5 liter container can be used as a container for growing onions on the windowsill. plastic bottle. Holes are made in it different levels around the entire circumference. A layer of soil is poured into the container, then bulbs are inserted into the holes, covered with a layer of earth and continue to alternate layers until the bottle is full. The tails of turnips with such a landing should be outside.

This is what the design looks like

In order for green onions on the windowsill to ripen throughout the winter, they are planted in different containers every 10-12 days. With such a landing interval, you will always have fresh herbs.

Growing conditions

Onions are not picky about growing conditions. Despite this, it is possible to significantly increase the fertility of the plant. Let's talk about them in more detail.

Light

Within 10 days after planting, the onion container must be kept away from direct sunlight in a cool, ventilated place. This will allow the onion to form a strong root system.

After 10-12 days, the container with onions is transferred to a windowsill or a covered balcony. For growing juicy greens, you need good lighting. If the plant does not have enough sun, it withers. LED panels or special lamps will help compensate for the solar heat.

Temperature

Onions on greens germinate well in winter at a temperature of 18 to 20 degrees. In this case, it is necessary to ensure that the plant does not overheat from batteries or the sun.

Watering

When growing green onions on the windowsill, it must be watered. warm water once every 2-3 days. To make green feathers more juicy, they are sprayed with water daily.

Harvesting

The first harvest can be harvested within 2-3 weeks after planting. At the same time, the first leaves are not touched, so as not to stop the growth of greenery. Feathers cut off sharp knife or scissors at the base.

Growing green onions in water

To plant a plant on greens, you can do without soil and grow onions in water on a windowsill. To do this, just place the onion in a glass or jar of liquid. At the same time, only the roots of the turnip should be in the water, and not the entire bulb, otherwise it will rot.

If you can’t find a container with the desired diameter, you can use improvised means. For example, a piece of cardboard with holes suitable for the bulb or an empty egg carton. Look at the photo to see how this design looks like.

Growing onions in water is easy and convenient in egg containers

To make it, you need to divide the egg tray into two parts. The lid serves as a tray, and Bottom part with cells - a stand for bulbs, which is placed on a pallet. Holes are made in each cell for free access of water.

During the first week, the fluid in the sump should be changed daily. After that, it is enough to renew the water once every 2-3 days.

To increase fertility when growing onions in water, top dressing is added to the liquid. Dissolve 5 g in a liter of water. wood ash and pour this liquid into the pan. You can feed onions after the appearance of the first leaves. Harvest can be harvested in 1.5-2 weeks.

You have learned how to grow onions in water and soil on a windowsill. Let's summarize.

What to remember

  1. Before planting onions on the windowsill, it is necessary to sort out the bulbs and soak healthy turnips in hot water.
  2. At home, onions for greens can be grown in water or soil.
  3. Before you grow onions on the windowsill, you need to decide on the capacity for planting and prepare the soil mixture.
  4. After planting, the onion container is kept away from direct sunlight in a cool, ventilated place for 10 days.

Growing green onions is a profitable profitable business that can generate good income throughout the year. In addition, fresh herbs are a great addition to family table which should not be abandoned. Today, many farms are engaged in the cultivation of green onions on a feather, and it can be organized in almost any area.

The technology of growing onions in open ground

  • They need time to give roots, so you can not delay planting.
  • It is important to consider that the distance between the bulbs is at least 15 cm, otherwise they will be cramped.
  • From above, the bulbs are covered with a layer of humus 2-4 cm thick.
  • When the soil begins to freeze, the plantings are covered from above with a layer of manure with straw or peat.
  • Warming will help them survive severe colds, since onions are not a very frost-resistant plant.
  • When the snow begins to melt, that is, approximately at the beginning of April, the bed is cleared of the covering layer, after which a greenhouse is placed on top of it.

In the future, plantings and growing shoots are watered as the soil dries out, and periodically 1-2 times during the planting season they are not fed. large quantity nitrogen fertilizer. to ensure an adequate supply of oxygen to the roots of the plants. As a result, already in the first days of May it will be possible to harvest the first crop of green feathers.

Also onions in open field can be grown from the beginning of spring, but then shoots will appear later, and the first crop can be harvested only in early June.

When the crop is harvested, the bulbs are shaken off the ground, the roots are cut off. With square meter plantings can be obtained up to 15 kg of onions, this crop is almost always characterized by high yields.

Principles of growing onions in greenhouses

In greenhouses, onions can also be grown in winter.

Green feather has always been in demand, and greenhouse onions can be a good commodity to sell.

As a rule, special varieties are chosen for such breeding:

  • Trinity.
  • Bessonovsky.
  • Spassky bow, etc.

Sufficiently large bulbs, the diameter of which is at least 3 cm - otherwise the seedlings will be ugly and weak.

The seed must be stored in a dry place, the bulbs must not be damaged:

  • Onions grow well in polycarbonate greenhouses, they help to store heat well and let in enough sunlight.
  • It is best to use the soil after, beets or, as it will already be supplied with the necessary nutrients.
  • To save space in the greenhouse, you can place boxes with planting soil on racks.
  • Multi-tiered cultivation will allow you to get a much larger yield, however, the distance between two tiers should be at least half a meter.
  • It is necessary to ensure that there are no cracks and drafts in the greenhouse.
  • Usually use gas heating greenhouses, but sometimes they also install potbelly stoves, which also provide enough heat.
  • The temperature should not fall below 10-15 degrees, in this case the onion will give the fastest harvest, and it will be ready for sale just a month after planting.

It is important to . If there is no way to provide natural sunlight, you need to take care of the lamps. If the light falls from the side, the feather will tilt, and the seedlings will be very mixed up.

Soil before planting you need:

  • Loosen well.
  • Manure and compost fertilizer are added to it.
  • Also applied to the soil not a large number of phosphates and potash fertilizers.

Before planting, it is recommended to wet the bulbs: if water gets under the outer shells, seedlings will appear much faster.

  • In addition, the top of the bulb is cut off.
  • After the emergence of seedlings, you need to monitor the uniform moisture of the soil and periodically apply a small amount of nitrogen fertilizers.
  • Begin harvesting the onion feather when it reaches a length of approximately 15 cm.
  • Bulbs always germinate unevenly, so harvesting has to be done selectively.

The bulb is dug up, the stem is pulled out of it. It is cleaned and wrapped in film for sale. It is important to remember that if the soil was introduced nitrogen fertilizers, onions are stored less.

Experienced gardeners note that the best time for the sale of greenhouse green onions - the end of July, August and September.

At this time, ordinary gardeners have already sold their crops, and most of busy picking vegetables. For fresh herbs, the price rises, and you can make a good profit from it. The sale of greenhouse onions is recognized as a profitable business, since the crop can be obtained almost all year round. To streamline the process, it is necessary to divide the greenhouse into zones, and after harvesting, the process is repeated.

In Europe, the cultivation of green onions in hydroponics is actively used.

In this case, the seed is planted in boxes with a small amount of soil and a lot of water. Nutrients are supplied to the roots in large quantities, so you can achieve good harvest. The advantage of the method is that you can place containers at any level and use the space of the greenhouse as efficiently as possible.

Green onions are a truly unique culture, as excellent harvest can be grown on your own windowsill.

For forcing on a feather at home, the Strigunkovsky, Bessonovsky, Danilovsky variety is most often chosen, since they are multi-germ and give a large number of seedlings. To make the feather the same size, the bulbs are sorted into small and large before planting.

How to plant green onions at home:

  • For landing use low boxes.
  • The thickness of the soil mixture should be about 7-10 cm.
  • It is better to choose enriched soil in which there will be required amount nutrients. You can buy it in a specialized store.
  • Yellow husks are removed from the bulbs, in addition, you need to cut off the tops. This will allow the sprouts to appear faster on the surface.
  • Bulbs are planted bottom to the ground, while they do not need to be completely deepened into the ground.
  • The distance between the bulbs should be about 2 cm.
  • When shoots appear, and the leaves reach about 3 cm in height, it is recommended to take the boxes to the balcony for fresh air.
  • The ideal air temperature for growing onions is 18-22 degrees, the water temperature is up to 25 degrees. Subject to temperature regime you can achieve strong green leaves.
  • Fertilizer is usually applied to the soil 1 time when the height of the greenery reaches about 4 cm. mineral supplement: superphosphate, potassium chloride and ammonium nitrate.
  • When the height of the feather reaches approximately 25 cm, it can be cut off.
  • Usually, the feathers are cut off at the edges first, as they will grow from the center of the bulb further.

Grown greens can usually be harvested within a month.

If you want to always have fresh herbs in the house, you can plant green onions in 2 boxes, the interval between plantings is 20-25 days. In this case, when the crop is harvested on the first bed, green shoots will just begin to appear on the second. The first container can be freed from the waste soil and the bulbs can be planted again.

There is another way to grow onions on a feather - planting seeds.

This is a little more labor intensive than growing with bulbs, but this method also allows you to get a good harvest. Onion seeds are cheap, and such plantings are usually carried out from the end of summer to get a harvest by spring.

  • Before planting, the seeds are soaked for 2-3 days so that they have time to "hatch".
  • The soil before planting is carefully loosened, a complex is introduced into it. organic fertilizers, after which the bed needs to be leveled.
  • Seeds are sown in rows, row spacing is about 30 cm.
  • After the emergence of seedlings, the bed is thinned out.
  • In October, when the first frosts begin, the bed is covered with a layer of peat or straw to protect it from freezing.
  • With the beginning of spring, after the snow melts, the overwintered seedlings are opened, and then they are looked after like ordinary garden plants: it is impossible to omit drying or waterlogging of the soil, the bed is periodically loosened to ensure air flow.
  • The feather is cut when it reaches a height of 25 cm or more.

Planting onions with seeds guarantees fresh greens in early spring, when shoots are just beginning to appear in other gardeners.

Green onions in general are an undemanding plant that grows well even in fairly poor soils. However, if you take care of the plantings, they will delight you with an excellent harvest, which will not only be an excellent vitamin addition to the table, but also bring good profits. This is amazing plant, which can be grown in a greenhouse, and, and at home on a windowsill. At right conditions green onions grow quickly, and the seedlings will turn out beautiful and tasty.
