There are many devices on the Internet to cut plastic bands and ropes from bottles or even fishing line. Among them are many complex devices and simple ones. But this cutter is distinguished, in its own way, by ingenious simplicity and grace. For him, well, you need to grind no details, everything is at home or you can buy it very cheaply. The main thing is that you can make it with your own hands in just minutes. With it, you can adjust the width of the tape and make it different sizes.

What tools and parts are needed to make this simple cutter?
This is the blade that will perform the action. A clerical knife or, as in this case, from a pencil sharpener will do. Need washers and 2 screws. You only need a screwdriver.
Working process
We take out the blade from the sharpener with a screwdriver. And now we need to decide what width we will cut the tape from the PET bottle. The combination of washers adjusts the height and width of the rope.
For the product you will need a table into which it is not a pity to drive a couple of self-tapping screws. Although, you can take the board under the machine, and fasten it to the table with clamps.
When a place for the cutting machine is found, we screw in two self-tapping screws with washers at a distance from each other. We set the blade to the desired height and clamp it with self-tapping screws.
Now we are preparing a blank for cutting the rope from a plastic bottle. Carefully separate the bottom with a clerical knife. The cut must be even. We fill the workpiece in the cutter.
We process a poltorashka with our own hands and a simple machine. To make the thread even, press a little from above. We pull the finished tape from the machine.
The material from which PET bottles are made shrinks when heated. Thanks to this, a tape from it can be used instead of a rope or a linen cord for a strong connection of various materials, making it possible to make various ones. Cutting ribbons with scissors is almost impossible - I made a special tool for this.
We assemble a machine for cutting tape from a plastic bottle
You will need: a few large washers 2 solid thread bolts, nuts and washers a utility knife blade with a hole a piece of plywood (board, laminate).
On the plywood platform we lay 2 large washers pressed against each other (photo 1), mark their centers. We drill holes in them according to the diameter of the bolts. Then, on the back side of the platform, we make a recess in the shape of the head so that they “drown” and the bolts do not rotate around their axis (photo 2). To cut a tape of a certain width on the leg of each bolt protruding from the back side, we lay so many large washers so that their total thickness is such a width. For example, to cut a 5 mm tape, you will need 3 washers with a thickness of 1.58 mm.
We put the knife blade on top and put at least one more large washer on it (photo 3). Align them and tighten the bolts with nuts. The machine is ready. We fix the platform on the table with screws or a clamp.

We remove the bottom, cut a strip and insert it under the knife. With one hand we hold the bottle and press on the cork, with the other we pull out the cut tape.

We position the knife blade so that the protruding part of its cutting edge is in the zone of the shortest distance between the washers.
How to cut ribbon from a plastic bottle video
An empty container is unrolled into a strip of the required width, after which it is used in this form or passed through a spinneret to form thin tubes.
The simplest model
Arrange production possible in any conditions with a minimum of components:
- a wooden block with approximate dimensions of 2x20x10 cm;
- metal washers 10-12 pcs. with a diameter of 20-25 mm and a thickness of 1-1.5 mm for M6 bolts;
- a pair of M6 bolts 30-35 mm long;
- two nuts M6;
- blade from a construction knife or pencil shavings.
As additional items, you can buy a clamp for fixing the machine and mount a guide axis into the bar, equal to the height of an empty plastic bottle.
In order for this equipment worked flawlessly, it needs to be properly assembled and configured.
In a wooden plank, we make two holes with a diameter of 6.5 mm for bolts at a distance of approximately 27-29 mm with a washer diameter of 25 mm. This will result in a gap of 3-4 mm between the washers.
We clamp the knife at a certain height in a horizontal form, as a result, the distance between the blade and the wooden plank will correspond to the width of the plastic tape.

Model with cuts
Can do it yourselfcutting machine. A wooden or aluminum bar with a section of 30x30 mm and a length of 15-20 cm is suitable for it. The depth of cut corresponds to the width of the future tape.
Materials required for work:
- bar;
- self-tapping screws for fastening in metal or wood;
- stationery or construction knife;
- threaded axle with two wing nuts.

Let's get started, make a simple "machine" and "unwind" the bottles like grandmother's balls. Let's prepare a saw, a jigsaw, a vise, a ruler, a pencil, a safety razor blade, self-tapping screws with a wide press washer, a wooden block 3 cm wide, 2 cm thick, 20 cm long.
Then we divide the blade into two halves. We clamp the bar in a vise and cut it with a jigsaw along the transverse line so that half of the blade fits completely into it. The second cut (in the middle) must be done at the beginning with a jigsaw from the end of the bar, then with a saw, increasing the width of the gap.
Note that the second cut should go through the first one a little further. Its length depends on what width of the tape you want to make. We sand the gap and fix the blade with self-tapping screws, which we screw a little further from it on both sides. That, in fact, is all - the design is ready.
We take a plastic bottle, cut off the bottom of it, insert the edge into the fixture, turn it a little, making a cut in the plastic. Now we just hold the bar with one hand, and with the other we pull out our tape.

And also remember that the nuts must be tightened very tightly so that your blade does not vomit!
Everything is done very simply, you just need to cut the bottle and pass it through the blade.
