Enamelware, care and purpose. Is it possible to cook in an enamel pan if the bottom is broken

With Steel enamel cookware is generally relatively inexpensive, easy to care for and functional to use. However, she also has her weak spots, knowledge of which can help avoid cooking troubles and extend the life of enameled pans.

Enamel is a vitreous coating, hygienic and inert to most aggressive environments (acids and alkalis) contained in products. But enamel, like glass, is afraid of mechanical damage. At strong blows the enamel is eroded and chipped off. It is strictly forbidden to use enameled dishes with chips. Before enamelling, the steel undergoes multi-stage processing by various chemicals, including toxic ones, and all of them will be ingested through damaged areas.

Also, do not allow heating of enamelware without liquids. Overheating causes the destruction of the enamel layer, and such dishes cannot be used either. Particular attention should be paid to enameled teapots- these are the ones we most often forget on the included stove.

Enamelware with liquid should not be left in the cold or in the freezer. The expansion that the frozen water is subjected to will erode the enamel. Enamelware does not like steel kitchen tools and washing with metal washcloths and abrasives - it is better to use wooden or plastic tools and soft sponges with liquid detergents.

When boiling water, scale tends to form on the walls of enameled dishes. Scale increases the heating time of the dishes, and it must be removed periodically. It is best to use special descaling products suitable for enamelware. You can also use and folk method: boil water, add baking soda to it at the rate of 2 tbsp. spoons per 1 liter of water and boil the solution for 20-25 minutes. After that, remove the scale with a sponge. Strong solutions It is better not to use vinegar in cleaning enameled dishes - they can damage the enamel.

Enamelled steel has low thermal conductivity, so it is better not to boil milk in it, which will stick to the bottom of the pan. To avoid this, you need to constantly stir the milk, and if it’s all so burnt, then pour a solution of water and detergent into the pan, leave it for a while (the more it burns, the longer it will take) and then wash the dishes with an ordinary sponge . The same method can be used to remove other burnt food residues.

When boiling vegetables (e.g. beets) or wine (when making mulled wine) inner surface dishes may be stained. To remove plaque, you can use cucumber pickle or boil the skin of sour apples in a bowl.

It is not recommended to use pans made of enamelled steel large sizes on small burners without flame spreaders. In this case, due to the temperature difference, the enamel may crack. Also you can't hot dishes put under a cold tap - this also leads to the destruction of enamel.

Enamelware is beautiful, convenient, hygienic, you can not only cook food in it, but also store it, and for quite a long time.

The enamel coating in the dishes protects food from the penetration of harmful metal ions, moreover, bacteria are not able to multiply on the smooth surface of the enamel.

Enamels (glass enamels) deposited on metal are fusible, transparent, white or colored glasses; they serve to protect the metal from corrosion and to give metal products beautiful view.

Enameled cast iron cookware does not require special preparation before use. Simply wash with soap and water hot water. The dishes are harmless, hygienic and resistant to food acids (vinegar), alkalis and salts.

Enamel of the following colors will be absolutely harmless: cream, white, gray-blue, black and blue. All other enamel colors, especially bright ones, contain chemical compounds of manganese, cadmium and other metals in in large numbers. Therefore, choosing enamelware, pay attention to the color of the enamel, and even better, look for the GOST marking.

But this dish also has its drawbacks: sometimes it is too heavy, and most importantly, when it is struck, the enamel often breaks off. After that, enamelware loses its resistance to acids and alkalis and quickly fails: the metal under the chipped enamel rusts very quickly, sometimes even through and through.

If the enamel is already chipped, try to repair it. However, keep in mind that it will no longer be possible to ferment cabbage, store milk, and cook jam in dishes with a repaired enamel coating.

To restore a damaged enamel layer on utensils and household products used in everyday life at room and high temperatures (up to 350 ° C), for example, gas stoves, geysers, pans, industry produces white enamel KO-5102. Enamel is applied to the cleaned and primed metal surface by spraying a jet from an aerosol can.

TECHNOLOGY OF RESTORATION OF ENAMEL COATING OF POCKET WITHOUT SPECIAL EQUIPMENT

Method 1. Putty for enamelled surfaces:

kaolin 225 g, finely ground ruffled 60 g, calcined borax 40 g, sodium silicate powder 30 g, powdered glass 20 g, slaked lime 20 g, water 50-125 ml.

After thorough mixing of these substances in a porcelain cup, a homogeneous mass is formed. The cracked enameled surface is cleaned, degreased and rubbed with putty. Drying lasts 48 hours.

Method 2. Putty for enamelled surfaces:

13 parts casein, 4 parts slaked lime, 10 parts soda ash, 6 parts sodium silicate, 15 parts ground quartz, 5 parts crushed glass, 50 parts kaolin.

The putty is moistened with a little water before use and stands until the casein combines with alkalis. Then the putty is diluted to the consistency of batter, smeared on the places from which rust and grease must first be removed, and left to air dry.

Method 3. Putty for enameled surfaces:

Mass in parts

Casein 12, Liquid sodium glass 6, Borax 10, Quartz flour 14, Powder of crushed glass 5,

All components are mixed and water is added until a pasty mass is formed; the damaged area is well cleaned, degreased and the prepared mass is applied to it. After drying, the coating becomes waterproof and withstands high temperatures well.

Scratched dishes are restored by polishing them with pastes, which are prepared by mixing white magnesia, chalk powders, iron oxide (“crocus”), tripoli, and adding water.

With a sharp change in temperature, the enamel cracks, so you can not put an empty pan on a hot stove.

When tasting food, do not hit the spoon against the edge of the pan to shake off the remnants, it is better to stir in it with a plastic or wooden spoon. Try not to drop it. The enamel begins to chip off, chips may appear at the bottom.

It is impossible to cook in a saucepan with broken enamel - substances harmful to health get into food (you can be poisoned by metal compounds). You shouldn't even boil water in it.

The second drawback is that food in it can burn even more than in aluminum. Therefore, you should not cook porridge in such a dish.

It is best to cook cabbage soup, borscht, soup in enameled dishes, vegetable stew, kissels and compotes.

You can boil pasta, rice in it - but be sure, as soon as the grits are poured (into boiling water), you must immediately stir so that the grits do not stick to the bottom.

Before using enamelware for the first time, it must be washed warm water with liquid detergent and wipe dry.

A new pan can be tempered. Pour water into it to the brim, add 2 tablespoons of salt (per liter), boil, let cool and then drain the water.

Choose the color of the pan when buying, preferably dark, and the bottom is better when blackened.

The thicker and more massive the cookware, the better it resists impacts.

The enamel of bathtubs and sinks is also, and even more prone to destruction due to constant use. It is also possible to restore it with your own hands, if you try.

RESTORATION OF BATH ENAMEL

Bath - Enough big purchase, so even during overhaul it is not always possible to buy new bath. No matter how carefully we use the bathroom, over time, the covering enamel cracks, and some of its pieces break off. If cracks appear on the enamel, it turns yellow and becomes loose, then these damages are quite amenable to resuscitation. If the cracks have penetrated deep into the cast iron, dents have appeared on the drain hole, then you don’t have to choose - you need to change the entire bath.

And in this case, you should pay attention to the cast-iron bathtubs of the Spanish company Roca. This company has been manufacturing bathtubs since 1921. The peculiarity of Roca products is that all Roca cast iron bathtubs are made of ageless metal, which gives them special strength and resistance to shock and damage. Another advantage of these baths is their enamel, which is made and applied on unique technology. The smallest air bubbles that destroy other enamels to the state of "orange peel" cannot penetrate into it Roca bath enamel long years will be immaculately smooth and even. And to the smallest detail, the well-thought-out shape of the baths will allow you to get the maximum pleasure from taking a bath.

Having paid decent money and inhaled enough of the suffocating smell, we were unpleasantly surprised to see that the enamel applied by the master began to fall off, making the bath even more unsightly than before painting.

After that, it was decided to paint the bath ourselves - epoxy acrylic enamel for Tub & Tile Refinishing Kit baths with an ordinary brush, although you can use a respirator or roller.

This is not an advertisement for a product - the enamel has already been pleasing to the eye with its whiteness and brilliance for six months now. One set of two components is enough for a standard, Soviet, recumbent bath. The instruction in Russian is attached. It is better to cover drain holes during painting. Not suitable for enamelware. But of course, it also smells when painted.

If you still want to make the enamel yourself - below are a few ways.

If you decide to restore the bath with your own hands, you must immediately warn you that painting the bath with auto enamels, spray paint from spray cans, oil, alkyd, nitro paints are not only useless, but even harmful - after all, then you will have to completely get rid of this, so to speak, "coating" with difficulty.

Enameling (professional) baths consists in removing the old enamel coating and applying a new one and takes place in several stages.

First, the surface of the bath is prepared - with the help of abrasives (powders, skins, abrasive stones or power tools with abrasive nozzles), the old enamel is removed. Next, the surface is degreased and dried, so that the result is an absolutely smooth, clean and dry bath. It is important to remove all the dust, which is a constant companion preparatory work. The service life of the new coating will largely depend on how well it will be possible to clean the bath of old enamel and prepare the surface of the bath. To restore the bath, a special two-component enamel is used.

Enamel can be applied different ways. The easiest and most affordable is to apply by hand with a brush. True, with this method it is almost impossible to achieve an even layer, to avoid drips and debris (dust, hairs, etc.). You can deal with the restoration of enamel on your own, or you can entrust your bath to professional masters who have decent experience in such work, which means they will do it faster and with better quality. Restored enamel, on average, can last 1-2 years, because even with full observance of the technology, it is impossible to obtain the quality of a factory bath coating at home.

For independent restoration of chipped enamel in bathtubs (as well as sinks, buckets, etc.), products based on organosilicon compounds are produced.

These are "Emal" mastic and KO-174 enamel in an aerosol package. The mastic is produced as a two-component one: 7.2 parts of the hardener are added to 100 parts of the main composition before use. The surface of the bath, where the enamel has broken off, is cleaned of rust and degreased, after which the resulting mixture is applied to it with a spatula. The enamel dries for a day: at this time, the bathroom cannot be used.

There is another way to restore the enamel coating of the bath. To do this, mix Supercement glue and white nitro enamel in equal proportions by weight. The place to be restored is well degreased with gasoline, and then glue mixed with paint is rubbed with a swab. The mixture dries up within a day, after which another layer is applied to the restored area, and in total 4 layers must be applied intermittently for drying. Approximate consumption glue for the whole bath - 4 tubes of 40 g each, paints - 160 g. The coating is white, smooth and strong enough.

The chipped enamel on the sink or in the bath can be restored with the help of BF-2 glue and dry zinc white, which are stirred to a "creamy state".

You can apply a mixture of "Supercement" and white nitro enamel. The place from which the enamel has broken off is cleaned of dirt and rust with a rag soaked in gasoline. The chip must be degreased with alcohol or acetone. After that, you need to dry the place of the chip. Apply the previously prepared mixture to the damaged area with a brush in 3-5 layers with an interval of 1-2 hours. The coating will finally harden in 3-5 days. The surface will be white, smooth and durable.

An unusual way to restore damaged enamel to the surface gas stove, sinks or bathtubs is no less efficient and simple. Clear the place for "restoration" sandpaper, degrease. Take epoxy glue, apply thin layer on the repaired surface and .... sprinkle with powdered porcelain. In the house for this there is always a broken porcelain cup or mug. The dried surface is ground and polished.

You can add talc or the same zinc white or chalk to the epoxy. The cleavage site, although it will not be snow-white, like enamel, will not be conspicuous and will be protected very reliably. It is very difficult to achieve a perfect match between the levels of the original enamel and the patch. wait until epoxy resin will already become very thick and viscous and carefully remove upper layer resin with a cloth soaked in LIH2 acetone. The acetone dissolves the resin and so you can achieve an almost perfect level match.

And finally, the "bath to bath" method. Its essence is as follows. Fairly thin acrylic liner(4 mm thick) is "inserted" into the old bathtub and firmly glued with special glue, which is applied both to the insert and to the surface of the bathtub. At the same time, it is important to ensure a tight fit of acrylic to the bath, for which the liner is pressed as tightly as possible to the surface of the bath. The big advantage of this method is that there is no need to remove the old coating, which means that there will not be as much dust and dirt as in the case of enamelling. Liners are made "individually" to order, ensuring the exact match of the drain and overflow holes. You can install the acrylic liner in place on your own or contact the experts.

HOW TO RETURN THE WHITENESS OF THE BATH

Ideally, the bathroom should sparkle with tiles and white fixtures. Usually after repair it is, but time passes and the enamel of the bath begins to darken, becomes covered with stains and rusty smudges.

And it's not always possible to keep original view baths, because often it depends not only on the frequency of cleaning, but also on the quality of the water, which in most cases simply cannot be influenced. Here are some methods you can use to whiten an enamel bath.

Abrasive cleaners

For old bath, on the coating of which cracks and stains have already appeared from time to time, any abrasive powder intended for cleaning plumbing can be used as a bleach. First, the surface of the bath must be moistened, then sprinkled with cleaning agent, evenly distributing it over the entire surface of the enamel with a sponge. After a quarter of an hour, using a metal brush or a sponge with a fairly hard surface, the bath should be cleaned of dirt in a circular motion using force.

As a rule, after this procedure, dirt and rust are removed without difficulty, and the bath takes on an almost original appearance. But keep in mind that such a procedure causes significant damage to the enamel. Therefore, if the bath is not very old yet, but gray ones began to appear on it, or yellow stains, it is better to use a creamy suspension, which is used to clean ceramics. True, in this case, significant physical effort will be required, since you will have to work with a soft brush. In addition, to get the perfect result, the procedure may have to be repeated several times.

A good effect when bleaching a bath is given by ordinary soda. This universal remedy has been used by people since the 13th century, and it did not lose popularity until today. To whiten the bath - dilute the soda with water to the consistency of thick sour cream. Then apply the composition on the enamel surface of the bath, wait until the composition dries, then remove with a sponge.

Bathtub painting with nitro enamel

Painting a bathtub with nitro enamel is more difficult process, how simple cleaning by special means. In addition to purchasing costs necessary materials, you will also need at least basic knowledge of how to use some tools and the ability to paint surfaces. But at the same time, it is also the most effective method return old bath original look.

You will need:

Thick rubber gloves;

Rust cleaner (oxalic acid, auto rust cleaners, liquid "Kama", "Sanitary-2", "Surzha", "Tartarin", etc.);

Cleaning powder and a sheet of sandpaper;

Solvent or acetone;

Bath nitro enamel - it is better to buy thick enamel, for example, NTs-11. Synthetic melamine-alkyd enamels ML-152, ML-12, ML-1110, ML-197 do not take, since their high-quality drying requires a temperature of about 100 - 130 degrees. As for the enamels in cans NTs-259 and NTs-1111, they contain a solvent that reduces the life of the paint.

A piece of flannel cloth and polishing paste.

It is necessary to work only in rubber gloves!

Delete rust spots. The most delicate option is low-aggressive oxalic acid, which is diluted with water until a mushy consistency is obtained. With a foam sponge, apply the mass to pre-moistened rusty areas and leave for 30–40 minutes. The layer thickness is several millimeters. If you use strong chemicals, for example, "Sanitary-2", then 10 minutes is enough. After this time, rub the corrosion spots with a stiff brush. When using any of the drugs, strictly adhere to the instructions attached to it!

Rinse your tub thoroughly chemicals. Treat the places where the stains remain with scouring powder or fine sandpaper until they completely disappear. Especially carefully process the border of the transition between smooth and matte surfaces. Then rinse with water and let the tub dry.

If there are chips on the surface of the enamel, also process them, restore the areas with bare metal.

Degrease the rough surfaces of the bath - wipe with a cloth swab, wetting it with acetone or solvent. Then after painting enamel coating will be strong and durable.

Paint the acetone-treated and primed areas with nitro enamel. Do this with a cloth swab too - you can’t use foam rubber, it will dissolve in nitro enamel. Wait half an hour for it to dry.

Next, paint over the sanded areas or the entire bath in several layers, giving each of the layers half an hour to dry. Remember that during painting in the bathroom should not be too wet, otherwise the enamel may crack or stain.

Wait about a day for the enamel to dry completely. To give a gloss, you can polish the surface with polishing paste. To do this, use a flannel patch.

Bathtub painting with glass - bulk bathtub

The technology of restoring bathtubs with glass has become widespread not so long ago, but has already gained popularity due to its relative simplicity and minimal time costs: it takes only 2 to 3 hours to paint a bathtub, and you can already use it after 3-4 days (depending on the manufacturer and composition).

Before proceeding with painting, all plums are dismantled, the walls and floor are covered with newspapers and fixed with masking tape. The surface of the bath is cleaned with sandpaper or grinder, and then degreased for better adhesion of glass to enamel cast iron bath. Then, from the upper sides of the bath along the walls over the old coating is poured liquid acrylic, which flows under its own weight. Stakryl flowing down the walls forms a smooth glossy surface with a thickness of 4 to 6 mm.

To form a proper drain, it is important to remove excess glass from the center of the bottom of the tub.

Smudges and minor defects are removed with a spatula, and excess enamel flows into a container placed under the bottom drain. After hardening, the surface becomes perfectly smooth and resistant to damage and aggressive detergents.

HOW TO CHOOSE A BATH

Bath types

When designing a bathroom, it is important not only to choose beautiful tiles, a suitable mirror and corner shelves right size. One of the most important elements of the room is the bathtub, where it is nice to relax after a hard day's work. Today, bathtubs are made from at least 11 different materials. We decided to consider their advantages and disadvantages.

Acrylic bath

Acrylic bathtubs appeared not so long ago, but immediately became popular. They are light, beautiful and affordable. Can have different design, but experts advise stopping at simple forms. Such bathtubs also have several disadvantages: acrylic cannot stand high temperatures, it can be deformed under the influence of boiling water, powders and strong detergents.

Quarry bath

Kvaril - new modern material, which is similar in properties to acrylic, but is more durable and scratch resistant. Such a bath is heavier than acrylic, but lighter than cast iron. Among the disadvantages: high cost, deformation under the influence of very high temperatures.

Cast iron bath

Cast iron is the strongest and most durable of all materials used in bathtubs. This is exactly the case when the price justifies the quality. Despite its high cost such a bath will last much longer than acrylic, faience, wood or glass. Such a bath has only three drawbacks. It is heavy, does not have a wide variety of shapes, and is very expensive.

wooden bath

Given the rapid development of eco-style, plumbing designers simply could not ignore the tree. It is very attractive, textured, environmentally friendly pure material. These bathtubs are made from moisture-resistant wood species, so it will last a long time. The only thing is that the pleasure is not cheap. In addition, the tree absorbs odors and is poorly cleaned of heavy pollution, so in wooden bath It is not recommended to bathe pets.

steel bath

Steel is considered a stylish and cutting-edge material. It will be a great addition to a high-tech bathroom. Its cold shine will always play to increase the space. It is not expensive, has a long service life. The disadvantages of such a bath include noise and the need for good fixation.

faience bath

Faience is most often used to make shells. It's fragile but beautiful material. Faience bath - perfect solution for an elegant bathroom classical style. It must be handled very carefully, as it can crack from impact or strong water pressure. This bathtub is easy to maintain. From faience create products of different shapes, colors and sizes.

marble bath

A marble bath looks solid and elegant, and the price is right for it. Today, bathtubs are made from natural and artificial marble, and the second is more durable and lasts three years longer than natural. One of the main advantages of marble is that it retains the heat of water for a long time. But this natural stone there is a disadvantage. It absorbs dirt and becomes yellowish over time.

glass bath

For the manufacture of glass baths using high strength glass. They are quite bulky, so they are suitable for spacious bathrooms. Glass bathtubs look very unusual and strong. They have only one drawback - high cost.

Ceramic bath

A ceramic bathtub is aesthetically very attractive. It can be made in any color and different forms. Differs in hypoallergenicity, environmental friendliness and bactericidal properties. Keeps warm water for a long time. Have ceramic baths and some drawbacks: they are expensive, fragile and afraid of being hit by heavy objects.

brass bath

If you need a bathtub in a retro style, then you should pay attention to brass products. AT last years this material is often used to design bathrooms. It gives the space a touch of retro chic. A brass bath has only one drawback: it is very expensive. It is also placed in spacious bathrooms. It does not need to be fixed additionally, it relies on its own foundation.

copper bath

Another material that will help create a vintage atmosphere is copper. It looks incredibly stylish, makes the room special. As if it takes you to another era and plunges you into another time. Most often, these baths are made by hand, so they have a high cost. You need to install a copper bath in the middle of a spacious bathroom. It is very easy to take care of her. To do this, it is enough to wash it with a soft cloth and an alkali-free detergent.

Enamelware is a fairly strong product that can withstand high temperatures. Therefore, it is allowed to put enameled dishes in the oven, but only under certain conditions. Otherwise, the pan may lose its properties, and its coating will begin to chip off.

Is it possible to put enameled dishes in the oven

If you take into account some rules, you can not only easily prepare a delicious dinner, but also extend the life of the dishes. Basic conditions:

  1. Must comply temperature regime, which should not exceed 250°C.
  2. Before placing enamelware in the oven, add water or vegetable oil and heat up on the stove.
  3. Cookware with chipped or cracked coatings must not be used. In this case, paint particles can get into the food.
  4. To prevent chips from forming on new dishes, you should always fill them to the brim so that the dry areas of the product are not subjected to overheating.

You need to place the product in a cold oven so that it warms up evenly and does not deteriorate. It is important not to forget that there may be plastic items on the pans that are prone to melting, and make sure that such dishes do not get into the oven.

In other cases, it is possible to place enameled utensils in the oven, however, it is strictly forbidden to put enameled utensils in the microwave.

Since the dishes are made of carbon steel or cast iron, and any metal compounds cannot be used for a microwave oven. Some believe that the thick layer of enamel blocks the contact of the waves with the metal, but this is not the case. Dishes can start to spark and even catch fire, so it's best not to experiment.

How to care for enamel products

Although such dishes are called durable, if used improperly, they quickly become unusable. Therefore, enamel products must be handled with care:

  • milk cannot be boiled in them, as it will surely burn to the bottom of the pan;
  • it is necessary to avoid mechanical impact and falling of dishes;
  • in no case should cold liquid be poured into a heated pan;
  • you should abandon the use of metal ladles and spoons, it is better to use wooden products.

Immediately after purchase, the dishes can be tempered with saline (2 tablespoons of salt per 1 liter of water). To do this, pour it into the pan and bring the liquid to a boil, then cool.

Also, do not expose the product to sudden changes in temperature, therefore, before washing, you must always allow the dishes to cool completely. Must be washed in warm water, using a sponge and liquid agent for dish washing.

Metal brushes and abrasive scouring powders should not be used as they scratch the surface. With a systematic impact on the coating with such objects, cracks will begin to grow, and the dishes will become unusable. If an enameled baking sheet has suffered from fat, then it is also not worth washing it with aggressive means.

If the pan is used frequently, sooner or later it will darken. You can wash such a plaque with vinegar, just add it to a bowl filled with water, at the rate of 5 tbsp. l. substances per 1 liter. water, and boil. Then pour out the water and wash the product in the usual way.

In order for the dishes to serve for many years, it is enough to properly care for them and prevent them from being affected. high temperature. In this case, it will not only retain its properties, but also an attractive appearance.

It's all nonsense. Can.

This "duck", in my deep conviction, was launched by the manufacturers of enamelware themselves, so that we are with you at the first scratch on enamel saucepan threw it away and ran to the store for a new one.

As a result, the cleavage opens small plot metal, which is completely harmless to products. The worst thing that can be there is corrosion. Before use, wipe the pan and the place where the enamel was chipped with a cloth. And when something is poured in the pan and cooked, corrosion is impossible at this moment - there is no contact with air.

It will be necessary to throw out such a pan only when the metal at the place of the chip rusts through and a hole forms in the pan. However, even after the formation of a hole, such dishes can be used, for example, for storing solid and even rather coarse-grained bulk products.

It's good if the "duck" always thought that heavy metals get into food through chips in the enamel .. But it's also disgraceful to change the pan with a chip every time ..

Do you seriously think that the pan is made of heavy metals, and enamel can prevent them from getting into food? Why are you ... Previously, such pans were made of tin, and now, as a rule, from the same aluminum. And in general, there are such requirements for metals (and for all materials) for cooking that you can be completely calm in this regard. In general, for example, I prefer stainless steel and cast iron cookware with some kind of non-stick coating.

Eating food from such dishes can cause poisoning of the body with heavy metals. And in an acidic environment (soups), they increase. With the constant use of such dishes, these metals will accumulate in the body, which can lead to headaches, to weak immunity and general fatigue.

It is better to use utensils from of stainless steel with thick walls

Comments

This is how panic rumors spread... Do not specify specifically what heavy metals and where it will come from in the utensils intended for cooking? And why only heavy metals? What about cyanides, radionuclides, Ebola viruses? When you write off (www bolshoyvopros ru), at least sometimes turn your head on - not everything that is written on the Internet should be unconditionally believed ...

And what about just the internet? they talked about the harm of dishes with damaged enamel even at school in chemistry lessons. Watch "Habitat" on the first channel, they also talk a lot about the disadvantages of such dishes. That’s why I asked such an exciting question for myself, you can’t buy health later, after all ..

By definition, heavy metals should not be in the dishes, otherwise such dishes would not be on sale. But violations of the technology of its production can lead not only to the appearance of heavy metals, but also to what I described above. But as a fact of bungling, you must admit, this can manifest itself anywhere, and not just in enamelware. And the answer is not banned - it is simply written off from the above site.

Why can't you use a pot with chipped or damaged enamel?

Enamel according to chemical indicators - glass i.e. it is neutral to all aggressive substances, including acid (for example, tomatoes, tomatoes, etc.) and alkali ... Remember, in chemistry lessons, everything was done in glass flasks and cylinders ... Therefore, such pans appeared ... And now fashion again, they return to this type of pan coating with a glass-ceramic coating ... Enamel usually breaks off where we knock on it or overheat .. So if you have a chip on top, where the liquids do not touch - please cook to your health !!! The only way out is to use the pan by pouring the liquid in half, so that it is difficult to get the liquid when boiling to a chip

Or all the same, it will be necessary to go broke and buy a new pot or pan. Of course, it is better to carefully use enameled dishes ... this is a medium fire, do not leave empty dishes on fire and, of course, do not knock or wash with iron washcloths that scratch the surface of the enamel. All the metals that are under the enamel have a bad effect on our body ... the manufacturer covered the metal with enamel and can make it from any metal that will cost him the cheapest.

Why can't you use a pot with chipped or damaged enamel?

You can use. But, if the enamel is damaged, it is believed that the iron under the enamel is oxidized and gets into the food. I don’t think so myself - not so much iron gets into food at a time, even if you cook sour soup. And if it does, it is excreted along with feces, but does not enter the bloodstream.
But the fact that such dishes deteriorate much faster than chemically neutral containers, such as stainless steel or aluminum, is for sure. Enamel, after all, must be protected, and if it is not there, then the repulsed place becomes thinner and eventually perforates. This will shorten the pot life. Instead of 100 years, it serves only 5 years after the moment when it was damaged.

You can use dishes with chipped enamel if the saucepan is good. If the saucepan is bad, it is better to buy a good one.

Why can't you use a pot with chipped or damaged enamel? Yeah, exactly the same - "repulsed" and "damaged".

Damaged enamel on pans in all housewives who wash them with an abrasive or metal washcloth. Helps burn food. You can use it in exactly the same way as a new one, it does not affect anything else.

Broken enamel (damage with complete removal of enamel in some area with metal exposure) - no longer recommended with modern pans. Indeed, as already mentioned, if the manufacturer enameled the metal, he will not use food-certified metal, and oxides can affect the taste and quality of food. After all, the acids and salt in the soup will react with the metal. Especially fraught in the case of cheap Chinese pots. But there are many things that are not recommended from what we do. For example :), if a person drinks, smokes, eats all sorts of muck from McDonald's, then his concern for such subtleties seems a little inappropriate to me). By the way, if the pan is old, Soviet, then there is metal best quality, and you can ignore the chip.

But no one wrote this - if the enamel has already chipped somewhere, then its further destruction often speeds up, the chip increases. And then, with another spoonful of soup, we risk chewing and even swallowing a tasteless piece of enamel, this is an occupation for fakirs, are there such people here?

I don’t know about you, but I always thought that soup cooked in a pretty saucepan, and even clean and modern kitchen seems to taste better. Today I walked through the crockery rows in the market ... I have seen enough of such beauty, and relatively inexpensively! I was going to buy a set of enameled pans (manufacturer Kerch) for my mother's birthday, but while I was walking, I wanted to please myself with a new saucepan.

Before buying new clothes, we must convince ourselves that ours is already outdated, small, out of fashion. Let's try to do the same for kitchen utensils. I invite readers to go to the kitchen and arrange an audit of their pots, bowls, kettles.

So, the first and most common damage to enamel pots is worn, damaged enamel. Such damage to the enamel is on the pans of those housewives who clean their dishes with metal and abrasive washcloths. The pan from the inside ceases to be shiny and snow-white, however, this state of it does not affect the dishes cooked in it in any way, and does not harm human health.

You can also find places on your pots where the enamel has broken off and you can see the metal. Enamel from kitchen utensils is beaten off easily. And, as a rule, if she began to fight back, she would continue to crumble in this place. If such damage is on the outside or at the top, where the surface of the cookware does not come into direct contact with the dish, you can safely continue cooking in this pan.

If the enamel is beaten off inside the pan, it is no longer entirely safe, but there are nuances here.

Definitely safer to cook:

  • in a damaged pot Soviet period than in modern cheap Chinese.
  • in a pan with one small speck of damage than in a pan with several or one large damage to the enamel.
  • in a saucepan, where only the top, white, layer of enamel has been beaten off. In this case, a black layer is visible, but the metal is not yet visible. In general, such a pan can still not be rejected, except perhaps according to an aesthetic criterion.

What is the danger of using a pan with broken enamel?

  • The place of damage quickly rusts, while rust penetrates through the dish into the human body.
  • If rust is not visually visible, the bare metal can come into contact with the acidic environment of borscht, soup, okroshka and form oxides, harmful to health person.
  • The ingress of metal compounds into the dish negatively affects the taste of cooked food.
  • You may accidentally swallow a piece of enamel.
  • We cannot know how the metal will behave when heated. There is an assumption that when heated, the reactions are faster, and the dish receives a lot of harmful compounds.
  • We cannot know what quality of metal is used by the manufacturer. If it has been enameled, it can no longer be food grade certified metal. Through damage to the enamel, we can eat a good portion of heavy metals with our soup.

If you now find that in your kitchen there are pots with chipped enamel inside, do not throw them away completely, just stop cooking in them. Such dishes are useful to you in order to wash vegetables and fruits. And to replace them, get new ones that are safe for health.

Pots that are safe to cook in:

  • The most convenient, practical and safe for health are considered.
  • If you, like the author of this text, do not like stainless steel in your kitchen, but prefer whole enamel with bright appetizing drawings, then I suggest visiting this site. I sometimes go to it, as to an exhibition of dishes.

Of course, a beaten pan is not even capable of seriously poisoning you with its metal oxides, especially considering how much harmful substances we receive from everywhere every day. But, given the availability of acquiring a beautiful new set of pots and its low cost, do not deny yourself the pleasure. From Have a good mood in the kitchen we will definitely become healthier!
