How to hang a chandelier from the ceiling: different ways of fastening for different occasions. How to hang a chandelier - useful tips for connecting your own hands How to fix a chandelier on the ceiling

Laziness made a man out of a monkey. Tired of climbing a palm tree for a banana - the monkey picked up a stick. Tired of the hostess forever painting and greasing the cracks on the ceiling - ordered. No hassle - beautiful, smooth, hygienic. There is only one small but urgent question: how to hang it on a stretch ceiling? On the one hand, it seems like you shouldn’t fool yourself, it’s easier to invite specially trained people for such work. But on the other hand, how do you know if they did everything right and whether, God forbid, what troubles will happen after such an installation? After reading this material, you can not only control employees, but also install a lighting fixture yourself.

Requirements for a chandelier for a stretch ceiling:

  • the stream of light should be directed down or to the side, but not up;
  • it is desirable that the shades have a closed shape;
  • the distance from the ceiling to the ceiling must be sufficient to prevent heating of the material;
  • at a standard room height, the tension structure already lowers the ceiling, you should not install a bulky chandelier;
  • the lighting device must have a long suspension, sufficient to be fixed to the base behind the stretched canvas.

Ceiling chandeliers for stretch ceilings can be equipped with different ones. When choosing one or another type, consider the features of the contract with PVC:

Lamp type Description
incandescent lampBehind the cheapness of these devices lies a high consumption of electricity and a high-temperature effect on surrounding objects. Such lamps are least suitable for synthetic ceilings. The minimum distance from the lamp to the PVC surface is 40 cm, and then, provided that the device is not more powerful than 60 watts. The solution could be to install reflectors between the film and the lamp, but does it make sense to fence such a design if there are other options?
A great option for a chandelier under a stretch ceiling. These devices are characterized by high efficiency and long service life. Such devices are very weakly heated and pose a danger to PVC film. Lighting can be warm or cool, depending on your preference.
HalogenHalogen lamps heat up slightly, but during prolonged operation this heat is enough to deform the stretched material. A 40 W lamp should not be closer to the ceiling than 40 cm.

Designer Tip! On a stretch ceiling, a chandelier in a contrasting color looks best. On black - white or silver, on light, respectively, dark metal.

Basic requirements for mounting a chandelier

Fixing a chandelier to a stretch ceiling should be not only durable, but also aesthetic. For stretch ceilings, suspension devices mounted on a hook or mounting plate are suitable. Overhead chandeliers that are attached tightly to the ceiling on a patch panel are not suitable.

Important! The height of the suspension of the chandelier should be sufficient, taking into account the distance between the base and the stretched material.

As an option, you can consider moving the hook for fastening below the level of the PVC film, but then this moment should be foreseen in advance, even before the pulling procedure.

A little about the correct location of the chandelier for stretch ceilings

The height of the chandelier placement depends on several factors:

  • ceiling height;
  • ceiling covering;
  • purpose of the premises.

How to hang a chandelier on a stretch ceiling in living rooms? From the floor to the bottom of the device must be at least two meters. So you eliminate the danger of accidentally hitting her when moving around the room. But it is better if this distance is greater, especially when the ceilings in the room are low.

Compact height devices are suitable for halls. This design will not interfere with opening doors. Also, keep in mind that in the corridor people often raise their hands to take off their hats or straighten their hair or close their umbrellas. So, the higher the lamp is located, the better.

Compact placement is relevant and. Here there is a risk not only to touch the structure with your hands, but also to accidentally get a jet of water from the shower.

If the ceilings in the room are higher than 3 meters, you are in luck: you can choose any shape and place it anywhere, even above. For example, it is logical to hang a lamp not in the center of the room, but above the dining group. At the same time, it is organized for the working area.

Advice! Classic ceiling lights have a suspension in the form of a chain. You can adjust its length by removing and adding links.

The most difficult question is how to fix the chandelier to the stretch ceiling at the location and the "second light". The peculiarity of the location requires a powerful light flux that can spread over two, or even three floors. In this case, take a closer look at the designs of several tiers or a falling cascade of lamps.

Note! The electrical installation rules recommend selecting hooks for lighting fixtures that can withstand five times the weight of the chandelier for at least 10 minutes. After removing the excessive load on the mount, there should be no damage left.

Thus, the choice of a chandelier must meet not only the requirements of design, but also the rules of safety and ease of use.

Tools for the job

The main tool in this matter is your confidence in your own abilities. Independent installation of a chandelier on a stretch ceiling is not so much difficult as troublesome and requires extreme accuracy. And there are tools for work in almost every home:

The basis for fastening the chandelier

There is a distance between a concrete or wooden ceiling and stretch PVC material. It can be different, depending on the characteristics of the room. If initially the ceilings have a defect, but with the help of a tension structure it is easy to fix it. It turns out that in order to fix the chandelier, the empty space needs to be filled with something, to create a rigid base.

If the distance is large, a thick bar cannot be dispensed with, you will have to make a frame. In this case, the place of film perforation must be reinforced with a gasket; it will additionally protect the PVC from the temperature effects of the lamp. Such gaskets are made in the form of rings, internal and external. They are hidden behind the decorative frame of the wiring and are completely invisible.

Options for installing a chandelier on a stretch ceiling with your own hands

If you have already decided to take up the installation of the lamp, take care in advance to prepare the base. After the ceiling is stretched, you will not have the opportunity to mount the stand and do the wiring. Usually the master asks in advance where you plan to hang the chandelier. You can prepare the base yourself and bring the wires to the right place in advance.

There are several ways to mount a chandelier. Let's briefly review the main ones.

With a hook

Hook - the most familiar and common way to hang a chandelier. The only thing you have to do is adjust the length of the hook to the height of the stretch fabric. If the hook was installed earlier, most likely it will have to be replaced, since the stretch ceiling will “steal” at least 3 ÷ 5 centimeters.

For fastening, a hole is drilled in the concrete ceiling, a dowel is inserted and a hook with a threaded leg is screwed into it. If the distance between the canvas and the ceiling is too large, a bar is attached to the ceiling and a hook is screwed into this base.

Advice! After installing the stretch ceiling, all wiring will be hidden from your eyes. For your own peace of mind, place it in a protective casing.

When attaching the chandelier to the hook, make sure that the decorative cup fits snugly against the ceiling canvas

With mounting plate

Fastening with a strap is found on modern models of lamps. The bar itself is a metal plate with holes for fasteners. This bar is attached to the prepared base directly through the ceiling canvas. You only need to cut a small hole for the wiring.

Important! When screwing the bar to the bar, be careful not to damage the wiring cord.

To facilitate the work and not damage the lighting device, it is disassembled before installation. It is necessary to remove the ceiling lamps, lamps and hinged decorative elements.

With cross bar

Mounting on a cruciform bar is not much different from hanging on a regular bar. Cross-shaped fasteners are usually used for heavy chandeliers. The only caveat is in the preparation of the base. For obvious reasons, the bar is not suitable in this case.

In this platform, a hole should be drilled for electrical wiring. To bring the platform under the height of the canvas, metal "legs" are used.

How to choose dowels for mounting a chandelier

For interior work, plastic dowels are used. Considering the possible external temperature effect of the lighting device, it is preferable to use nylon-polyamide inserts.

If the ceiling in the room is concrete, spacers will be required. In the case when the ceilings are multilayer structures with voids, it is better to use dowels.

The thickness of the element depends on the expected load. The suspended structure tends to pull the dowel out of the wall, so it is important that it has expansion antennae and notches that additionally hold the material in the skin.

To more securely fix the element in the hole, you can use construction glue, they lubricate the dowel before clogging. Do not try to screw in a thicker screw, it can split the liner. It is considered correct to use screws for spacer inserts.

Advice! A chandelier weighing 5 ÷ 10 kilograms is fixed with an impact dowel with a diameter of 8 mm and a length of 80 mm. You will need at least 4 dowels to complete the task.

Master class for homemade: how to fix the lamp on a stretch ceiling

And now directly about how to fix the chandelier on a stretch ceiling. As already mentioned, it is necessary to follow a clear algorithm of actions and be puzzled in advance by the location of the lighting device and the preparation of the base.

We offer you a small master class on how to attach a chandelier to a stretch ceiling:

A photo Description of works

The first step will be marking the location of the lamp and pulling the cord to indicate the height of the canvas. The cord is pulled from the frame through the entire room.

A bar is attached to the main ceiling at the location of the chandelier. To do this, holes are drilled in the ceiling, dowels are inserted and the base is screwed with self-tapping screws.

There can be several bars - depending on the height to which you need to bring the fasteners, or you can use metal "legs" that are easily adjustable in height. It is important to sand the surface of the bar well, which will be in contact with the canvas.

The wiring is passed under the bar or between two elements. So she will not stretch in case of an unforeseen situation.

To accurately bring the surface of the base to the level of dense, use lining elements. After pulling the PVC material.

A special glue for PVC is applied to the thermal ring for the hole.

Next, you should feel the base with your hands and glue the ring directly on the canvas in the center. It will take time for the glue to dry.

A canvas is cut out in the inner part of the ring. Be extremely careful not to damage the wiring. After that, a wire is released into the hole for connection.

Feel the position of the bar and place the mounting plate correctly.

Attach the mounting plate with self-tapping screws. Don't forget to pre-insert the studs.

Attach the chandelier so that the studs fit into the intended holes. Fix the lamp with decorative bolts.

How to decorate the place where the lamp is attached

If you have not forgotten to use a thermal ring, the place where the chandelier is attached will already look neat. A small hole will hide behind the base of the lighting fixture. But if the interior design requires the creation of some additional element, use lightweight polyurethane sockets. They imitate

When purchasing a new chandelier, the issue of its correct and reliable fastening to the ceiling, as well as safe connection to the electrical network, is of particular relevance. And, as it turns out, all this work can be done without the involvement of outside help. To do this, it will be enough to prepare the appropriate tools, read this article, the instructions for the chandelier and that's it, you can start installation.

In this article we will tell you how to fix the chandelier to the ceiling. The tips will also help those who do not know how to fix a chandelier to a concrete ceiling.

In the general case, there are such methods of attaching a chandelier to the ceiling:

  • with fastening strap. Such lamps are mounted according to the scheme “the bar is attached to the ceiling, and the chandelier itself is attached to it”;
  • mounted on a special hook screwed into the ceiling.

Let's take a closer look at each of the ways to attach a chandelier to the ceiling.

Before installing the chandelier, remove all decorative elements and shades from it. This will protect the product from accidental damage. In addition, this way you can reduce the weight of the chandelier, which has a positive effect on the convenience of its installation.

Mounting the mounting plate

The installation of the chandelier begins with mounting the mounting plate to the ceiling surface. First you need to try on a chandelier to the intended installation site. A decorative element that covers the place of attachment and output of wires must fit snugly against the ceiling. If in the place where you install the chandelier there is a hook from the previous lamp, then it is bent to the ceiling so that it does not interfere with the installation. You do not need to cut this hook, as the next time you repair, you may be installing a lighting fixture that is mounted on such a fixture for a chandelier to the ceiling. Why would you create additional problems for yourself?

Then markup is carried out under the bar and the fixture of the chandelier is installed to the ceiling. To do this, the fastener is applied to the surface so that it does not create obstacles for connecting electrical wiring. Mark this place with a pencil. After that, holes are drilled and dowels are driven into them. With the help of screws, the mounting plate is fixed to the ceiling.

If you know how to fix the chandelier to the ceiling, then this is the key to success in installing it. A securely attached lighting device will not only delight you with its bright light, but will also make you feel completely safe, without fear for your health.

Wiring connection

Before attaching a chandelier to the ceiling, it is necessary to connect all the wires of the house's power supply system to it. Before this, be sure to de-energize the wiring. After that, check the absence of voltage on the wires.

Rules for connecting the chandelier to the electrical network:

Fixing the chandelier to the mounting plate

If you connected the chandelier correctly, then you can proceed to install it to the mounting plate.

Do it like this:

  • the decorative closing element of the chandelier is pressed against the bar, matching their connecting holes;
  • then decorative nuts are screwed into them. Thus, you will attach the chandelier to the ceiling (details: "");
  • now all ceiling lamps and other decorative elements are installed in their original place.

That's it, now you know how to fix the chandelier on the ceiling.

How to hang a chandelier, detailed video:

Fixing a chandelier with a ceiling hook

This type of fastening as a hook is installed in the ceiling at the stage of building a house. Before installing the chandelier, it must be checked for strength. To do this, hang a load on the hook that is similar in weight or heavier than the chandelier that you will install. It is left hanging for a while (read also: ""). If the hook does not move, then you can safely proceed to the installation of the chandelier. But if it pops out a little or falls out altogether, then you will have to install it yourself.

To do this, proceed according to the following scheme:

  • a hole is drilled in the ceiling;
  • a metal anchor is inserted into it. It is selected so that it fits snugly against the walls of the hole;
  • for installation in a wooden ceiling, you can use a self-tapping hook;
  • when mounted on a plasterboard ceiling, the chandelier mount to the ceiling is installed to the ceiling or embedded bars. The distance between the base surface and the GKL is overcome by hanging a chain on the hook, to which the chandelier itself is then attached;
  • for safety reasons, the metal hook must be well insulated.

The procedure for connecting to the electrical network is no different from the one we described above. On this, the installation process of the chandelier can be considered complete.

We hope that our short instruction will be a good help for you in installing lighting fixtures. For those who have not fully understood how to fix the chandelier to the ceiling, we recommend reading additional materials and viewing the photos posted on our website. We wish you success in giving your home the desired look.

Hanging a chandelier with your own hands is not so difficult. A person with no experience in carrying out such procedures may first be frightened by the need to work with electricity. However, no serious knowledge is required to complete this task. To install a chandelier on the ceiling, you need to carry out only two operations: connect it to the electrical network and fix it.

Safety

Before starting any electrical installation work, you need to take care of safety. Mounting the chandelier involves contact with wires through which high voltage flows, so this issue must be approached with all seriousness. Here are the main recommendations and guidelines:

  • all electrical installation work must be carried out with the power turned off (you can simply turn off the circuit breaker in the panel);
  • after turning off the machine, it is worth making sure and checking the absence of light;
  • after checking the absence of voltage in the wires with an indicator screwdriver, you can safely proceed with the installation;
  • often a Chinese manufacturer in the manufacture of chandeliers resorts to the use of low-quality materials, so their choice should be treated more carefully.
Checking the presence of a phase with an indicator

How to determine the location of the wiring in the ceiling?

Before you hang a chandelier on a concrete ceiling, you need to know the exact location of the electrical wiring. If this is not done, when drilling holes for fastening the chandelier, it will be possible to easily drill wires. The search process must be carried out while current is flowing in the wires. Therefore, this procedure can be divided into the following steps:

  1. Power outage.
  2. Installing a temporary bulb holder.
  3. Electricity supply.
  4. Turn on temporary light.

To determine the location of live wires, there are many devices from different price categories. This device must be driven perpendicular to the line along which the wiring is supposed to run. In the place of detection of the phase, it is necessary to put a mark, and then continue to move the indicator. The next label is placed at the place where the phase disappears.

For control, these steps should be repeated in the opposite direction. In the interval between the resulting marks and the wiring is laid. Now you can safely drill holes for fasteners and hang the chandelier.

Ways to fix the chandelier to the ceiling

If everything became clear with the wiring, now the question arises: what are the ways of fixing the chandelier? Today, the three most common technologies are most often practiced, allowing you to quickly and easily hang a ceiling chandelier. Relatively light products can be fixed on hooks. In cases with heavier lighting fixtures, the use of anchor bolts is provided. In addition, there are chandeliers attached to the bar (bracket). Another way is to mount directly to the concrete ceiling.

How to hang a chandelier on a hook?

The easiest way to mount a chandelier to the ceiling is a hanging hook. To fix it in the ceiling, it is necessary to drill a hole with a diameter of about 8 mm. If the weight of the chandelier does not exceed one and a half kilograms, you can use a regular threaded hook, which is screwed into a dowel inserted into the hole. For heavier products, expansion anchors with a diameter of at least 10 mm should be used.

If you plan to fix the hook in the dowel, it is recommended to choose a corrugated one. Such fasteners are better fixed in the ceiling. The screwed hook should be wrapped with two layers of insulating tape.

After these manipulations, it is necessary to connect the wires from the chandelier to the mains. This can be done both with the help of ordinary twisting, and by resorting to the use of terminal blocks, which are most often included in the package of most lighting fixtures.

At the next stage, you should attach the chandelier to the hook, and then move the special decorative trim as close as possible to the ceiling surface. This bowl will hide all wire connections. This completes the installation of the chandelier. The main disadvantage of such a mount is the gap between the ceiling and the lining. It can be either a couple of millimeters or 1-2 cm.

It is important to understand that mounting a chandelier on a plasterboard ceiling in this case is fraught with unpleasant situations. If light products can still hold out, then drywall will not withstand heavy lighting fixtures. The hook must be attached to the frame, so its installation should be planned during the construction of the ceiling.

How to hang a chandelier with a plank?

There is a way to fix the chandelier without a hook. This procedure is a little more complicated, but quite doable.

The kit should come with a special mount for the chandelier to the ceiling. This fastener is called a bracket. This bar for the chandelier must be attached to the ceiling, and then put marks for drilling holes for the dowels. In the bracket itself, you need to fix a couple of screws. In this case, the distance between them should be equal to the distance between the holes on the decorative cover.

After fixing the bracket, connect the wires. You can hang a chandelier of this type only with an assistant, since it will be very difficult for one to do this. One should hold it, and the second should deal with the connection to the mains.

At the next stage, it is necessary to get the screws fixed in the bracket into the holes of the decorative trim, and then tighten the nuts. Once the lamp is installed and performance checked, the procedure for attaching the ceiling chandelier can be considered complete.

Fixing ceiling lights directly to the ceiling

Often, such fasteners are used for small chandeliers and lamps that are light in weight. On the reverse side of such products there are always several holes designed for fixing to the surface. If the base is made of wood, you can fix the ceiling lamp directly to the screws. If you want to hang the lamp on a concrete ceiling, you first need to drill holes for the dowels, and then fix it.

Installation under a single-gang switch

If everyone can hang a chandelier on a concrete ceiling, then connecting to the mains is sometimes difficult. Most chandeliers installed today have two conductors. According to the standard marking, the blue or white-blue wire is zero, and the white or brown wire is phase.

If your house hasn't been rewired for a long time, there will be two aluminum conductors in the ceiling. As a rule, they are not marked, however, you can determine where is zero and where is the phase using an indicator screwdriver. If the wiring is relatively new, there will be three wires in the ceiling: zero, phase and ground. We do not need the third one, so it can be insulated and bent to the side.

If the chandelier has two or more shades, the wires coming from them must be connected together. Zero must be connected to zero, and phase to phase. After that, zero from the mains is connected to the connection of zeros from the chandelier, the same with the phase. Next, you can already mount the chandelier to the ceiling.

When hanging lighting fixtures, you need to understand that it is not recommended to connect aluminum and copper wires directly. Over time, such a contact will begin to oxidize, and the connection itself will lose strength, as a result of which the twist will begin to overheat. At best, the chandelier will fail, at worst, the wiring. In such situations, chandeliers can only be hung by connecting wires through terminal blocks.

Installation under a two-gang switch

If you want to install a chandelier under a two-key switch (that is, one key turns on only a part of the bulbs, and two keys together - all the bulbs at the same time), the principle changes a little. In this case, all the zeros of the chandelier are connected together and connected to the zero of the mains, and the phases are divided into groups.

In the first group, it is necessary to combine all the phase conductors of the lamps, which should light up from the first switch, in the second - from the second. Next, the first group is connected to the phase coming from the first key, the second - to the phase from the second key. The installation of the chandelier can be considered complete after it is attached.

How to check the strength of the mount?

After completing all the procedures, be sure to check. Small flaws can escape your sight, so you should immediately visually determine the quality of the work. The wires must be completely hidden under the decorative cover.

You can determine the reliability of fastening by slightly loosening the lamp. Well, the main indicator is a performance check. If, after turning on all the keys of the switch, the bulbs lit up, and the wiring did not sparkle, then you installed the chandelier on the ceiling correctly!

R eat question how to hang a chandelier or another ceiling lamp, you can use the services of an electrician. Or, with the help of our article, hang the chandelier yourself. Installing a chandelier with your own hands is a simple task and the only difficulty is that you may need a puncher (literally for five minutes of work). If you just decide to change the old chandelier, and the old chandelier is in good condition, then all you need is screwdrivers (Phillips and narrow, 2-2.5 mm slot), and small pliers.

Choosing and buying a chandelier

After you choose a suitable lamp model in the store, you will most likely be given it unassembled. You can ask for the chandelier to be assembled right in the store, but it’s not very convenient to carry a bulky, fragile device in your car, and there’s no need to talk about public transport. When making a purchase, carefully check the complete set of the chandelier, especially the fastening details, so as not to return to the store later for a tiny nut. We recommend a good online store where you will find the widest selection of chandeliers and other lamps with delivery throughout Russia.

Modern inexpensive (up to 5 thousand rubles) models, with all the external diversity, have only two types of mounts. A loop that clings to a hook in the ceiling, shown in the pictures below, or a mounting plate fixed to the ceiling, to which a chandelier is then attached with bolts and decorative nuts, the section can be seen in the pictures below. The attachment point is closed with a decorative overlay - a cup moving on the suspension of the chandelier. The cup is fixed in the raised position, either due to a tight plastic washer, or a small bolt. In the second variant, the decorative overlay is often at the same time an element of fastening, we will tell you how to hang such chandeliers later.

Chandelier assembly

How to assemble a chandelier is usually clear even without instructions (which, by the way, are often not given!), however, a little advice - if possible, take a picture of the assembled chandelier in the store, at least with a mobile phone, less later you have to break your head. When assembling, do not be too lazy to check the wire connections, there were cases when the lamps did not light up when turned on, or even a short circuit occurred.

The assembled chandelier must be fixed on the ceiling, that is, hang the chandelier. In the simplest version, this is a regular hook. Alas, the easiest option is not always the best. The fact is that the height of the decorative “cup” is not always enough to close all this rather bulky structure, and an ugly gap remains between the lining and the ceiling. If you bend the hook, then putting some types of loops on it becomes a problem.

How to hang a chandelier with a hook

However, hanging a chandelier with a hook is, in most cases, convenient and secure. There are several types of anchors. If you need to hang a small lamp, weighing a kilogram and a half, you can use a regular screw-threaded hook screwed into a plastic plug - dowel. For heavy chandeliers, it is necessary to use expansion metal anchors, with a length of fifty and a section of ten millimeters.

The fastening device with a hook is performed as follows, a hole with a diameter of at least 8 mm is drilled in the ceiling with a puncher for a plastic dowel or anchor. When using plastic dowels, corrugated ones are used, at least 40 mm long. It is better not to use smooth dowels; they are held in the slab much worse. If, having drilled a hole, you fell into the void of the plate (which happens often), it's okay, the dowel will fix even better.

After that, screw the hook into the dowel, or install the expansion anchor and hang the chandelier. The wires of the chandelier are connected to the wires coming from using a special block equipped with clamping bolts (sometimes this block is called a terminal block). It is for tightening the bolts of this block that you will need a slotted screwdriver with a narrow sting. The box comes with a chandelier. If it is not there, they are twisted and insulated with insulating tape. It would be better, of course, solder the twists, but you can do without it, especially when using energy-saving lamps. Move the decorative "cup" close to the ceiling, and fix it.

How to hang a chandelier with a decorative strip

A chandelier is a little more difficult to hang with a metal bar. The bar is applied to the ceiling at the location of the chandelier. With a pencil or a thin marker, mark the places for drilling holes for dowels. Having removed the bar, drill holes and drive dowels into them. The fixing bolts are inserted into the bar, they are moved apart by a distance corresponding to the distance between the holes in the decorative lining of the chandelier, and so that they do not move, they are clamped with nuts.

Then, the bar is placed on the ceiling, screwing it with screws. Next, the most difficult part of the work, which is best done with an assistant. The decorative box must be attached to the ceiling above the bar in such a way that the exposed bolts fall into the holes in the box. Before that, connect the wires of the chandelier and. To make it more comfortable, stand as high as possible. When performing these operations, the assistant must hold the chandelier (you will not connect the wires with one hand). When the bolts match the holes, the decorative box is pressed against the ceiling and clamped with decorative nuts.

Most apartments in high-rise buildings cannot boast high ceilings. The use of tension or suspension structures here should be approached very carefully, since they eat up such necessary centimeters. Very often the surface of the floor slabs is leveled and whitewashed or painted. When thinking about lighting issues in such rooms, you need to think about how to hang the lamp on a concrete ceiling and fix it correctly.

There are a lot of fasteners and various brackets now, for mounting ceiling lighting you can use:

  • anchor hook;
  • Clamping suspension;
  • Overlay fastening.

The easiest and most reliable option to hang a chandelier is an anchor hook screwed into the ceiling. It allows you to hang large massive chandeliers from concrete ceilings. Installing the anchor on a hollow slab is associated with some difficulties. It may happen that the drilled mounting hole will fall into the internal cavity. In this case, the reliability of fastening will significantly decrease, since only half of the estimated length of the hull will work for thrust. The way out of this situation is simple - move a little to the side and drill a new hole, and cover the old one with putty.

The clamping suspension is designed specifically for installation on hollow core slabs. Due to the simplicity and efficiency of the design, it is he who is most often installed in new buildings. And since its reliability is very high, most residents are not even aware of its existence. Its bearing capacity is somewhat lower than that of the anchor, but still quite sufficient to hang a chandelier weighing up to 5-7 kg.

Butterfly montage

Installing an auxiliary overhead strip on the ceiling allows you to mount the luminaire when for some reason the installation of an anchor or suspension hook is impossible or undesirable. Another reason to use this installation method is the standard chandelier mounting system. There is no need to reinvent the wheel when all the necessary parts are supplied with the lamp and the only thing left is to assemble them.

List of materials and tools required for work

In the vast majority of cases, everything that may be needed in order to hang a lamp is already in the arsenal of a home master:

  • A drill inserted into a perforator chuck is an almost uncontested option for hassle-free work with concrete;
  • A set of wrenches will help to cope with the tightening of the anchor hook or nuts on threaded studs with an overhead mounting method;
  • Wire insulation is stripped using a sharp knife;
  • Terminal connectors are used for switching contacts;
  • A screwdriver is necessary for the screw method of fixing the wires;
  • To seal the electrical wiring entry points, it may be necessary to use fire-resistant mounting foam or mineral wool, followed by a layer of putty flush with the ceiling surface.

Ceiling hook installation

The installation process of anchor fastening is quite simple and does not require lengthy explanations. At the selected point on the ceiling, a hole of the required depth and diameter is drilled. A metal anchor is inserted into it and twisted first by hand, and then with a wrench, a hook on which you can then hang the lamp.

Anchor bolt mount

To protect the puncher from getting dust, sand and small concrete chips on the drill, you can put on a disposable cup made of thick paper. On the one hand, the installation of a suspension suspension is simpler, since there is no need to drill the ceiling, and on the other hand, it is somewhat more complicated and requires some explanation. Due to the specifics of its design, this fastening can only be used on hollow concrete floors. A spacer rod 10-15 cm long and up to 3-5 mm in diameter is inserted into the inlet in the slab and pushed into the internal cavity.

The next step to be completed is the installation of the suspension bar. This is a narrow metal plate, on one end of which a series of holes is made, on the other a small hook is formed, on which you can hang a chandelier. The plank is taken in one hand and placed inside the concrete slab. With the other hand, the spacer rod is threaded through one of the holes. The closer it is to the edge of the plate, the greater the distance from the ceiling to the hanging hook. Thus, you can adjust the protrusion of the suspension by 3-5 cm.

Next, the mounting ends of the chandelier are connected to the electrical wiring. The installation of a plastic decorative lining close to the ceiling completes the entire assembly process. Due to the presence of a slot, it is put on a hanging bar, fixing its position and completely blocking the hole in the concrete slab.

Installing the overlay

Installing some kind of auxiliary support surface is the most versatile method. An overlay for hanging is usually supplied with a chandelier, but if necessary, you can make it yourself or choose a suitable bracket from the range of the nearest hardware store. The meaning of this installation method is to disperse the attachment points to the ceiling.

cruciform plank

As standard, the overlay bar can be made as a cross or a single narrow metal plate. Fastening to the ceiling surface is carried out by four or two dowel-nails. The chandelier is directly fixed with the help of decorative union nuts screwed onto threaded studs welded to the plate.

If for some reason the standard mount is not suitable for mounting, you can use perforated mounting brackets of suitable size or make a metal plate that is suitable in size and make all the necessary holes on it. Instead of welding threaded studs, a screw-nut connection can be successfully used. Further, the sequence of installation of the lamp completely coincides with the factory version.

Sealing the wiring entry

The standard input of an electrical wire for connecting lighting is carried out in the middle of the room through a hole in the ceiling with a diameter of 5-7 cm. In a concrete slab inside the cavities during the construction of the house, the cable is routed to the switch and connected to the general network. Sealing of these channels is most often not performed and sounds and smells from neighboring rooms easily spread through them. Replacing the chandelier is a very good reason to eliminate this shortcoming.

Hole in concrete

The easiest option is to foam all the free space inside with fire-resistant mounting foam. However, the apparent ease of the solution can then bring a number of problems if you need to hang another lamp. To get to the connection terminals, you will have to work very well with a knife, cutting out the cured polyurethane foam in small pieces. When using mineral wool, all free space is densely filled with small pieces of this non-combustible insulation. The fastening of the material inside the plate is carried out due to the high elasticity of the fibers. Compressed cotton wool, straightening inside the hole, performs its complete sealing.

To finally isolate the room from extraneous odors and sounds, the surface is puttied. A gray reinforced tape is glued over the cotton wool with a small entry to the ceiling (up to 5 cm). Then a sickle masking tape is attached to it, which will ensure the necessary adhesion of the solution to the surface. The final step is to apply and level a thin layer of finishing putty.

Electrical safety issues

As in all matters relating to the connection of household electrical appliances, the installation of a chandelier on a concrete ceiling must be carried out taking into account the requirements of the current regulatory documentation. Before drilling mounting holes, it is advisable to check the location of the wiring. For these purposes, you can use a universal tester or locator. When the probe enters the electric field, the device will emit an audible signal. Of course, there will not be a 100% guarantee, but the probability of damaging the supply wire with a drill will decrease many times over.

During the installation process, a situation often arises when it is necessary to connect the copper wires of the lamp with the old aluminum wiring. In this case, switching issues should be approached with special attention, since poorly made contact between these two metals is a source of increased danger and can cause a fire.

Aluminium-copper tips

It is absolutely not permissible to connect copper and aluminum wires using twisting. For the most reliable switching, it is necessary to use terminal clamps (preferably those that use screw fastening). Single-core conductors are stripped of insulation, inserted into the connectors and fixed. For a stranded copper wire, it is necessary to perform an additional operation of tinning the mounting end to fasten the individual wires into a single monolith and ensure reliable electrical contact between them.

As you can see, to hang a chandelier on a concrete ceiling, there is no need to use complex fixtures and tools. If necessary, instead of standard factory mounts, you can make your own or pick up their analogues. The most important thing, as in any work, is accuracy, lack of haste and compliance with safety regulations.
