Do-it-yourself installation of plastic slopes. Sealing slopes after installing plastic windows

Salute, readers!

I see that my tips are useful and many try them in practice. This is very pleasing!

One of the regular readers wrote a letter asking them to talk about how to make slopes on installed windows with their own hands, to which I dedicate this post.

He writes that he planned repairs, but did not calculate that prices would rise this way.

The budget is not rubber, so I started doing some of the work myself. Slopes are just the kind of finish that a professional can do.

Save on windows and read the instructions for action!

Often, when installing plastic windows in an apartment, especially if all existing windows are installed or replaced immediately, you have to pay a tidy sum.

But not many people know that you can save a lot without losing quality, and perhaps even improving it by performing some operations yourself.

In particular, if you decide to make slopes for plastic windows yourself, you will save at least 20% of the order value, or even more.

The procedure is not at all complicated and any economic person who knows how to handle a minimum set of household tools can cope with it.

What you need to make slopes on plastic windows

So, let's move on to detailed instructions on how to make slopes on plastic windows with your own hands. Initially, it would make sense to stock up on the necessary tool, namely:

  1. Building level,
  2. Perforator,
  3. construction stapler,
  4. A knife or scissors, or a grinder, or a hacksaw with a fine tooth for cutting plastic.

After making sure that the above tool is available, you can start purchasing the necessary materials:

  1. We need a plastic panel, the length of which is calculated by adding the lengths of the side and top sides of the slope.
  2. Starting and so-called F-band (plastic profile resembling the letter F), the same length as the plastic panel.
  3. F profile we will nail to a 10-15 mm wooden block fixed on the side and top sides of the slopes.
  4. insulation for slopes, mineral wool is usually used.
  5. Dowel nails for attaching wooden bars and self-tapping screws for attaching the starting profile to the window profile.
  6. White or other silicone identical to the color of the plastic.

The first step is to fix the wooden bars around the perimeter of the opening, more precisely on all sides where the slopes will be installed.

To do this, it is necessary to measure and cut the bars of the required length, and then drill holes in them for self-tapping screws.

To do this, the bar is set using the building level, it is necessary that it be strictly vertical (horizontal for the upper slope), when viewed in the direction of the window and not protrude beyond the wall, when viewed in the other direction.

After setting, we mark and drill holes, hammer plugs of dowels into them and fasten the bar, checking once again the verticality (horizontality) in terms of level.

After that, you can proceed to fastening to the F-shaped bar. To do this, you need to cut it to size using a grinder, knife or other tool you have available.

First of all, we cut out profile segments for side slopes, for this we try to make one end of the segment that will stand on the windowsill perfectly even, you can use a miter box for this.

As for the length of the segment, it is calculated as follows, the length of the slope is measured, then the width of the profile itself is added, more precisely of that part of it that will veneer the slope, after that we add another 20-30 mm margin and cut off.

Helpful advice!

Before it will be possible to make slopes on plastic windows, it is necessary to install a starting profile.

Next, it is necessary to accurately measure a distance equal to the length of the slope from that part of the profile that will stand on the windowsill, and cut off the strips intended for winding the profile from the remaining part (two parallel strips on the profile).

After that, we nail the strip to the bar with a stapler. We cut out the upper strip by measuring the length of the slope and adding the width of the profile on both sides and a margin of 20-30 mm for each side. We also attach it with brackets.

After that, it is possible to cut the strips at an angle of 45 degrees at the intersection of the side and upper strips of the profile, so that an even joint is formed.

The last preparatory operation, before it will be possible to make slopes on plastic windows, is the installation of the starting profile. It is installed by fastening with self-tapping screws to the window profile.

To do this, you need to make markup. This is done by drawing a vertical (horizontal for the upper slope) line on the profile, it is applied according to the desired angle of the slope.

Then a strip is set along the line and attached to the profile with self-tapping screws. At the joints, it is necessary to cut the profile in such a way that there are no obstacles for inserting plastic having a length of a greater length of the profile into it.

After that, panels of the required size are cut and installed in the starting and F-shaped profiles, the space between which is preliminarily laid with insulation.

After you have managed to make slopes for plastic windows, you need to coat all the joints of profiles and panels with silicone, this will not only give the structure tightness, but also give the seams and joints a more attractive look.

A variety of modern building materials allows you to quickly and efficiently perform any work related to both the construction of structures and the finishing and repair of finished real estate objects.

Today, more and more people prefer metal-plastic structures (windows, balconies, terraces) due to their high technical and economic characteristics and due to their impeccable appearance.

In addition, such designs significantly improve the performance of the walls of the house.

List of preparatory works

Measurement, installation and adjustment of plastic windows are carried out by specialized teams, which is the key to the correct implementation of all technological measures and entitles the customer to warranty service.

But such operations as the installation of slopes of plastic windows, if desired, can be performed on their own.

Slopes are of various types, and may differ in color, shape, materials from which they are made.

The most common materials used for the production of slopes are the following:

  • drywall;
  • plastic, mdf, sandwich panel;
  • cement mortar;
  • wood.

Also, a significant advantage of such slopes is their low cost, durability, high speed of installation work (3-4 hours), ease of maintenance, the ability to choose any color segment.

Note!

A significant advantage of plastic slopes is low cost, durability, high speed of installation work, ease of maintenance, and the ability to choose colors.

So, after the metal-plastic window has been installed and at least 36 hours have passed (the period of complete solidification of the mounting foam), you can install the window slopes.

First you need to decide on the list of necessary materials and tools required for such work.

Firstly, it is desirable to purchase plastic, and it is best to give preference to high-quality and solid products.

The initial cost savings when buying a cheap product can turn into additional costs associated with the repair of damaged items.

The thickness of the plastic should not be less than 8 millimeters, and the lengths of the panels should be equal to the given dimensions of the opening in height and width. Accordingly, the depth of the slope should not be greater than the width of the plastic panel.

Secondly, the following building materials will be required: starting strip, F-shaped profile, mounting foam, cement mortar, silicone, small self-tapping screws (bugs), adhesive tape, paper clips, insulation.

From the tool you need to have a hammer, a drill with a bat for self-tapping screws, a screwdriver, a gun for silicone and polyurethane foam, a trowel, a spatula, a tape measure, and rags.

When all the necessary attributes are prepared, you can proceed to the procedure for finishing the slopes of plastic windows.

The first step is to remove the shipping tape from the profile of the metal-plastic window and seal the gaps formed from the side of the street with cement mortar.

This procedure allows you to seal the outer assembly seam and hide the foam from direct sunlight, which have a destructive effect on this material.

In principle, any outdoor mortar can be used as a mortar, be it putty or a special cement-based mortar. The outer slopes of the windows can later be coated with any dye.

After that, you can proceed to the internal work.

The starting strip is taken and cut to fit the window (height, width, height), and then drilled with self-tapping screws to the perimeter profile. This strip will be the base for the plastic panel.

Then you need to prepare directly the panels for the slopes.

This is done in the following way. First, the top panel is made, for this, plastic is cut out according to the dimensions of the upper part of the opening and installed in the grooves of the starting strip, and then two side panels are made in the same way.

The resulting frame must be designed in such a way that the following conditions are met:

  • between the plastic and the base base of the opening, a gap of at least 20 millimeters was obtained (for filling with foam);
  • the angle of turn of the side elements of the slope was the same for the left and right sides (measured using a square applied to the window profile in the upper and lower parts on the right and left);
  • if the elements of plastic panels protrude excessively above the plane of the opening, then it is recommended to correct their dimensions with a mounting knife;
  • in the places where the panels are joined (in all corners), it is advisable to mount the trimmings of the starting profile, which will allow you to cover the unevenness of the cuts.

The next step is the manufacture of edging from the F - shaped profile. As with plastic, this process must begin with the top element.

The joints of the F-shaped profile must be cut at 45 degrees to each other. A very serious stage in the manufacture of plastic slopes is the foaming of the resulting voids.

The difficulty lies in not overdoing this process, so that the foam does not open the slopes during solidification.

To do this, it is desirable to foam the area around the perimeter of the window at the very base and lay the foam with jumpers between the plastic and the old slope.

Another layer of foam is laid along the slope angle, and prepared F-shaped profiles are installed in the resulting space, and their fixation is best done using adhesive tape.

When the foam solidifies (15-20 minutes), the structure becomes rigid and sufficiently stable. The final step is to coat the cracks with a special sealant or silicone.

In order for the process of installing plastic slopes not to cause great difficulties for the contractor, it is advisable to adhere to the following recommendations during construction operations:

  1. Use PVC panels of good quality, in color, corresponding to the color shade of the window profile;
  2. Before using the panels, remove (cut off) the mounting spike from them;
  3. Trimming and cutting PVC panels with a mounting knife or electric jigsaw;
  4. In order to avoid deformation of the panels during the foam hardening, it is necessary to use mounting foam with a low coefficient of expansion, as well as to provide mechanical fixation of the slope elements in a given position for the time of preliminary setting of the foam (5 - 10 minutes);
  5. If necessary, heat-insulating materials can be placed in the technological gaps between the wrong side of the PVC panels and the base base of the opening (before the foaming process);
  6. To quickly remove traces of adhesive tape, it is best to use a cotton swab dipped in acetone;
  7. After making the slope, plastering of the part of the opening under the window sill should be ensured.

Everything is ready and your slopes will delight you for decades. That is, it became clear that do-it-yourself plastic slopes for windows can be made by almost any person with little or no knowledge in the construction industry.

Plastic windows in our home are not a luxury, but a necessity. In addition to high aesthetic appeal, they reliably protect the living space from wind, dust and city noise. But installing them is only half the battle.

You will need to beautifully decorate the window opening, i.e. install slopes.

  1. Plastering the surfaces of the window opening. In this case, the work will not cause any difficulties for anyone: everyone knows how to prepare a plaster solution and apply it to the wall. Another thing is that not everyone has the skill of plastering, but one way or another, if you put a little work and diligence, it is not difficult to make the slopes even.
  2. Installation of plastic slopes.
  3. Installation of plasterboard slopes.

Installing drywall slopes on plastic windows is the most commonly used way to design a window opening.

1. We measure the width of the slope with a small overlap of 2-2.5 cm;

2. We draw the necessary canvases on a GKLV sheet (gypsum plasterboard moisture-resistant sheet) and cut them out using a special knife for working with drywall, or a jigsaw. In the second case, it is recommended to moisten the material with water to prevent the spread of gypsum dust. You should get 2 side canvases and 1 top;

3. We start work from one of the sides. We install the GKLV sheet so that by 2-2.5 cm it goes into the groove between the plastic window itself and the wall;

4. We fill the seam with polyurethane foam on the inside of the slope between it and the wall, then apply 2 more strips of foam: in the middle of the slope (on the wall) and along its edge;

5. We apply a drywall sheet in such a way that there is a small space between it and the foam;

Helpful advice!

6. We fix the canvas with dowel-nails "quick installation" in increments of 30-40 cm. We carry out all work using the building level, checking the vertical installation of the canvas;

8. After 2-3 hours (the time for the foam to harden), we will take the putty (Fugenfüller, Uniflot, etc.), sickle (mesh mounting adhesive tape) and proceed to puttying the cracks and joints.

First, we glue the sickle, after which, using a spatula and putty, we level the surface of the slopes;

9. Install the corners to protect the cuts. You will need perforated galvanized or aluminum corners.

A layer of Fugenfüller is applied to the drywall with a spatula, a corner is set strictly according to the level and slightly rubbed with this putty composition;

10. Now you need Vetonit VH putty, because. it is cement based. With e help, we putty and level the slopes so that the surface of the drywall is even;

11. After drying, GKLV is sanded.

Installing plastic trims

These slopes are the easiest to install, easy to clean, durable. Installation can be done with or without insulation. Installing slopes on plastic windows with your own hands is so simple that any man can handle it.

We will need:

  1. Plastic sheet 6 m long and 8 mm thick;
  2. Starting bar having a U-shape;
  3. F-shaped plastic bar;
  4. Rail made of wood with a thickness of 1-1.5 cm. The width can be any: from 3 to 7 cm;
  5. Construction stapler and staples 6-8 mm.

Device technology

Using a rail and self-tapping screws, we make out the outer edge of the window opening.

For fixing the rails, a puncher, wooden or plastic "chops" are used;

Along the edges of the plastic window, we set the starting bar;

We mount the F-shaped bar along the edge of the wooden slats. We fasten it with brackets;

We cut out the canvases from plastic and insert them between the U-shaped and F-shaped strips;

Under the plastic, you can lay a heater: mineral wool, penoizol or pour foam.

Surely the window slopes brought a lot of trouble to more than one home master. The installation of plastic windows is completed, and the craftsmen left behind a terrible-looking slopes, which now need repair.
In fact, do-it-yourself finishing is not such a difficult matter, the main thing is to figure out which option is better and more reliable based on the individual characteristics of the room and general repairs.
In this article, I will describe the three most popular and affordable ways to finish slopes, each of which can be done by hand without resorting to the help of specialists.

Surely window slopes brought a lot of trouble to more than one home master

Plaster

This is probably the first thing that comes to mind. Not a single repair is complete without plaster, a huge number of articles have been written about this, so we will not dwell on how to plaster slopes with our own hands, but simply talk about the advantages and disadvantages of this material.

Advantages:

  • Relatively low cost of labor and materials.
  • If the windows are installed close to the walls, this is the only possible way to finish.

Finishing slopes with plaster

Disadvantages:

  • Plaster is not a final finish, which means that it will need puttying and painting, which largely affects the price and speed of work.
  • After working with plaster, a huge amount of debris and dirt remains, which will be difficult to remove, especially if a comprehensive repair is not carried out.
  • It is not possible to install additional insulation made of foam or mineral wool.
  • To perform plastering work, you will need at least some skill in construction and decoration.
  • Plastered window slopes are not very attractive, and they require expensive paint.
  • Short service life. Over time, the plaster begins to crumble and leaves behind a lot of dust.

As you can see, there are much more negative qualities, so it is better to consider other options.

Drywall

It is difficult to imagine a more popular finishing material. Almost everything is made of drywall today, and window slopes are no exception. Of course, a beginner may face a number of difficulties, but unlike plaster, there will be much less of them.

Pros:

  1. Relatively low cost of the material and components to it.
  2. Minimum waste after work.
  3. You can make slopes on the windows without the involvement of specialists and completely with your own hands, which also affects the final cost.
  4. If the opening allows, you can make additional insulation from foam.
  5. Mechanical damage to a drywall slope can be easily repaired by yourself, you only need paint and, in extreme cases, putty.
  6. Properly installed window slopes will last for many years without additional restoration and repair.

Drywall is a popular building material

Drywall also has its drawbacks, which cannot be ignored.

Minuses:

  1. A large number of additional materials, such as paint, decorative corners, and wooden blocks.
  2. All types of drywall are sensitive to high humidity, so it is better not to use this material in rooms with an aggressive environment.
  3. Styrofoam insulation is necessary, without it, condensate will form under the surface, which will eventually destroy drywall slopes.
  4. Do-it-yourself installation provides for the presence of a certain tool that is not found in every home.

Almost everything is made of drywall today, and window slopes are no exception.

Installation of plasterboard window slopes

Below are detailed instructions on how to make slopes on windows, but first of all, you need to prepare everything that you may need. This applies to both materials and a set of tools.

Materials:

  • Drywall sheet.
  • Wooden bars.
  • Decorative corners both internal and external.
  • Putty and paint.
  • Dowels for attaching wooden bars to the wall and self-tapping screws for attaching drywall.
  • Styrofoam sheet, desired thickness.
  • Glue to fix corners and other materials that cannot or are difficult to drill.

Drywall installation and finished construction

Tool:

  • A utility or construction knife with breakaway blades for cutting drywall and foam board.
  • Hacksaw for sawing wood blocks.
  • Simple scissors to fit the corners.
  • Perforator or drill with impact mode.
  • Hammer, tape measure, pencil for measuring and marking material.
  • Screwdriver or nozzle on a drill for tightening self-tapping screws.
  • Rollers, brushes, spatulas with which paint will be applied.
  • Grout with sandpaper for leveling the surface after puttying.

Now that everything you need is at hand, you can start decorating.
First of all, it is necessary to fix the wooden blocks around the perimeter of the window and flush with the wall. They are attached with dowels with a plastic base.

Advice! before fixing the wooden bars with your own hands, it is better to treat them with special impregnations with mold protection. After that, they must be thoroughly dried for several hours in the open air.

Plasterboard slope installation scheme

Next, with a clerical knife, we cut a sheet of drywall and foam. The insulation is placed between the bars and pressed against the finished slope segment. Drywall is screwed into wooden blocks in increments of 10-20 cm around the entire perimeter.
After all the slopes on the windows are fixed, we proceed to puttying. The mixture is applied in a thin layer on the sheet, and closes the caps of the screws and possible irregularities. It is better to apply several layers, this will create additional protection against mechanical stress.
The next step after the coating has dried is painting. Such a coating does not require special efforts and skills, most importantly, do not stain plastic windows. To do this, they can be pre-glued with masking tape, which is then easily removed.
Now the paint should dry thoroughly, after which you can proceed to decorating the corners. Plastic corners are cut to the desired length and fixed to the surface with glue.

Important! When making repairs with your own hands, the main thing is not to pour glue onto the corners, since its excess will subsequently be very difficult to remove.

The slopes on the windows are ready and you can immediately notice how your plastic windows have changed. But do not rush to start work, there is another way to fix unpleasant slopes and, perhaps, it will suit you better.

Gluing plasterboard on slopes

Plastic

Plastic panels are no less popular material than drywall, and moreover, their set of positive qualities is even greater than that of a competitor.

Pros:

  1. Plastic slopes on the windows are not at all afraid of moisture, which means that they can be installed in rooms with an aggressive environment.
  2. After installation, this material does not require paint or putty.
  3. Huge variety of colors and textures.
  4. Since paint is not applied to the surface, plastic panels do not need regular renovation and restoration.

Plastic slopes for windows

Add here also all the items from the list related to gypsum sheets, except for the fifth, since this is rather a minus.

Minuses:

  1. Installation without foam will lead to freezing and destruction of slopes.
  2. If you use not corners for decoration, but special profiles, the process will become much more complicated, since the panel will have to be inserted into the profile, and this is often very difficult.
  3. Any damage cannot be restored, and you will have to completely change the panel, and with it all the corners.

The predominance of positive qualities is obvious, which means that you can proceed to repair.

Plastic slopes for windows

Installation of plastic window slopes

We will not waste time on another list of tools, since it differs little from the one above, but rather, we will immediately move on to the installation and how to do it correctly and with our own hands.
As in the first case, we start with the installation of bars and foam. After that, we attach the starting profile to the window frame with glue, for reliability it can be fixed to the bar on the building brackets.
Next, to the bar that runs along the wall, we attach the F-profile, and now comes the most difficult stage - the installation of panels.
Since the profiles fixed by us are plastic, they bend easily, this will help to bring the panel into the F-profile. But first, we insert one edge of our slope into the starting element and push it all the way.

It often happens that after installing windows, the opening does not look the best and needs to be repaired. And the best option to get rid of protruding foam, pieces of plaster and other flaws is to install slopes on plastic windows with your own hands. Properly designed slopes will give the windows a complete aesthetic appearance.

Reasons to install

Plastic windows can be considered correctly installed only when the slopes are installed correctly, in compliance with the rules. They carry a certain part of the thermal insulation load, thus preventing the assembly joints from fogging. With improper finishing or due to temperature changes, the structure of building materials can collapse. Therefore, it is important to install slopes in compliance with the technology.

Stucco finish

This option is now considered rather outdated because it has more disadvantages than advantages. But you can still consider this possibility.

There are two main advantages of this type of finish:

  • Low installation cost.
  • If the windows were installed close to the walls, then this is the only possible option.

Unfortunately, there are much more disadvantages in this method, so you should consider the negative consequences of its use.

Among the disadvantages are the following:

If, after weighing all the pros and cons, you come to the conclusion that you can’t do without plaster, feel free to get down to business.

The use of drywall

This stuff has been very popular lately. A lot of structures are made from it, including slopes for walls. When installing it, you may encounter difficulties, but they are much less than when finishing with plaster.

The undeniable advantages of using this material are:

But, like any other material, drywall also has its drawbacks:

  • During installation, a large number of tools and materials are used.
  • It is very sensitive to high humidity, so it is better not to use it in an aggressive environment.
  • Warming is required.

Now you can go directly to the installation of slopes. Necessary tools and materials for installation:

Now that the necessary tools are nearby, you can get to work. First, we fasten wooden blocks around the entire perimeter of the window flush with the wall. The bars are attached with dowels. Then, using a clerical knife, a sheet of foam and drywall is cut. The insulation is laid between the bars and pressed with the help of the finished slope segment. Drywall is screwed into wooden bars in increments of about 20 cm around the perimeter.

After all the slopes are fixed, we proceed to puttying. A mixture of putty is applied to the sheet in a thin layer and closes the bumps and caps of the screws.

The next step is painting. You can paint in the usual way, the task is not to stain the windows. When the paint is dry, you can start decorating the corners. To do this, plastic corners are cut to the desired length and attached with glue to the surface.

plastic materials

Plastic slopes have huge advantages compared to plaster:

During the replacement of old windows, the window opening can be severely damaged, so it is important to fill the resulting voids. In some cases, the cracks are not visible but still seeps through the window. This indicates that there was a depressurization of the seams after installation work.

Thermal insulation methods

If you carry out the installation of slopes according to all the rules, then they need to be insulated with high quality. Thermal insulation is achieved simply: you need to install a heater under a layer of plastic.

Warming can be done in 2 ways:

  1. Insulate the space with polystyrene foam or mineral wool on the inside of the window.
  2. Fill with mounting foam the cracks at the junction of the window opening and the PVC frame.

A gap within 50 mm on a smooth surface is preferably insulated with Izover, sheet foam or polystyrene foam. If the wall is uneven, it is better to use mineral wool. Outside, the gaps can be filled with mounting foam.

Well-insulated multi-layer walls themselves perfectly protect the window opening from external factors, so it is not necessary to insulate the slopes, it is enough to go through all the gaps with mounting foam from the outside.

Installation of slopes made of plastic

Now let's look at how to make slopes on windows out of plastic. Required tools:

  • Sheet plastic 8 mm, enough 6 meters.
  • The starting lane is U-shaped and F-shaped.
  • Perforator or drill.
  • Building level.
  • Metal scissors.
  • Square.
  • Pencil.
  • Sealant and screws.

As in the case of drywall, do-it-yourself plastic slopes need to be mounted from bars and foam. Then we fasten the starting profile to the window frame with glue, you can fix the profile to the bar on the building brackets for greater reliability.

The next step is to attach the F-profile to the bar that runs along the wall.

Now comes the most difficult stage - the installation of panels. Since the profiles that were previously fixed are made of plastic - they bend easily, this will help to bring them into the F-profile. But before that, you need to insert one edge of the slope into the starting element and push it all the way.

Then you need gently press the inner edges of the F - profile and bring the panel inside. If the work is done correctly, then the profile should return to its original position and securely fix the panel.

Installation of external slopes

There are several options for installing and preparing external slopes. The most common slope installation methods:

  1. From plasterboard covered with plastic.
  2. From sandwich panels.
  3. Made of foamed plastic.

Using an electric saw or scissors for metal, sandwich panels or plastic panels are cut. Then, the starting profile is mounted with dowels in the window opening during window installation. Next, slopes are attached to this base. For installation work, galvanized brackets and mounting tape are used. The brackets are fastened with self-tapping screws, and on their basis slopes are fixed tightly pressed to the window sill. Corners are lubricated with sealant.

Plasterboard slopes lined with PVC sheets are mounted with "liquid nails". It is necessary to ensure that there are no signs of deformation on the surface of the plastic.

One of the options - is the use of foam PVC. By cutting, it can be bent to the desired shape. Otherwise, PVC has a common installation technology with sandwich panels.

Do-it-yourself installation of slopes - quickly and for a long time

Necessary tools and materials

Many are accustomed to the fact that the window slope needs to be puttied or plastered. This was done until plastic panels appeared, since then the installation of window slopes with their own hands has become much easier.

Do-it-yourself installation of window slopes - choose panels

Once windows have been installed in your house, slopes remain the main and main problem. And no matter how neatly and efficiently the team of installers would work, there will always be chips and cracking on the slopes. In addition, a plastic window is much thinner in size than an old, wooden one. For this reason, after installation, a strip of unplastered wall remains, which in any case must be sealed. For these purposes, it is best to arrange plastic slopes.

It should be noted right away that the installation of panels is a very laborious process. If you have very weak ideas about this, it is best to turn to professionals for help. But if you have made a firm decision to do everything yourself, we will tell you about it in detail.

It is important to know that high-quality PVC slopes are thick enough. 8-10 millimeters of thickness is enough so that the slope does not bend and has a rigid fixation near the window frames. In addition, PVC slopes of this thickness have high thermal insulation properties, and if you use mineral wool during installation, then your home will not be afraid of the most severe frosts.

Plastic slopes are easy to wipe, for this reason they are recommended to be mounted in rooms with high humidity, for example, in kitchens, loggias, balconies, etc. Plastic products “do not collect” on themselves either mold or dampness. This is their undeniable advantage.

Plastic panels have other advantages:

  • Perfect look. Plastic slopes have a flat, uniform surface.
  • When using these products, there are no streaks or stains. And you can clean them with water and any detergent.
  • Plastic panels have a long service life.
  • Installation is carried out quickly, after installation there is a minimum of dust and debris, they do not need puttying and painting.
  • Excellent moisture resistance of the material used.
  • High vapor permeability.

How to install slopes - preparation for installation

Before starting to mount the window slope, it is necessary to check the evenness of the installation of the inserted window. This is necessary in order to immediately correct all inaccuracies (if any). If the window is installed incorrectly, then the plastic panels will clearly show all the flaws in the installation of the window block. Before you start installing window slopes with your own hands, you need to carry out a whole range of preparatory work:

  • cut off excess foam;
  • if necessary, knock down the remains of the plastered slopes;
  • check the strength of the brickwork in the area of \u200b\u200bthe window slope for integrity;
  • drill a hole for the window sill;
  • paste over the foam with vapor barrier material;
  • seal through holes (if any) with foam or cement mortar;
  • remove the protective film from the plastic windows.

The installation of plastic slopes must be approached with full responsibility and knowledge of the matter, otherwise the installation of window slopes will be done incorrectly, which will affect the heat transfer of the room and visual perception. Plastic panels are mounted only after the window sill is installed. It is important to understand that the installation of slopes and window sills are two interrelated processes.

Plastic slopes, as a rule, are installed using a U-shaped profile (starting profile). It is screwed to the edge of the window block with metal screws, the pitch of which is 1 cm. This operation is recommended to be performed along the marked line on the window profile. There is a variety of starting profiles that snap into place before the window is installed on the plastic frame. If you decide to use this type of profile, then when buying, it is recommended to clarify whether the start and window profiles are compatible.

How to mount slopes on windows - practical ways

There are several options that are most often found in the practice of builders. One of them is foaming. This method is good because the foam, which is in the body of the slope, significantly increases the strength of the plastic product for deflection. Also, mounting foam is both an adhesive and heat-insulating material. Installation is quite simple - foam is applied to the wrong side of the panels, and they are installed in their place. If you do the installation of slopes with your own hands, you must remember that the main task is to correctly set the slope along the plumb line.

There is one caveat - so that the expanding foam does not deform the panels, they must be pressed against the wall for a while with something heavy.

Another method of fastening plastic panels, which is strongly recommended by the manufacturers of this product, is screwing to the profile on the outer edge of the slope. By choosing this option, you should understand that you will need to close the corner of the butt. To do this, it is necessary to cut strips of the desired width from PVC panels. With the help of a specialized rail, which has a snap-in corner, the plastic panel must be well fixed in the desired position. If you decide to use a conventional mounting rail, then in this case the panel is attached to the rail with a stapler.

After you have fixed all the panels, the top and sides of the ends between the wall and the slope must be closed with special plastic corners. These corners will "extend the life" of your wallpaper in the window area.

The method of simple plastering slopes

The plastering method is also quite cheap and practical. To begin installation, the dry plaster mixture is diluted with water and thoroughly mixed. The surface to be treated must be thoroughly cleaned from foreign contaminants, dust and dirt. For better cement strength, the joints are expanded by 10 mm.

Initially, the surface is primed, then a layer of plaster is applied, the corners are leveled. Rules are used to level the surface. Each new layer can be applied only after the previous one has dried. This, by the way, is the main drawback of the method - time is spent not so much on work as on waiting.

A special flat rail is installed to the top of the panel. It serves as a beacon to make the slope perfectly even. On the sides of the slopes, the slats are installed vertically. To achieve the utmost accuracy during installation, a plumb line is used. The applied solution is best leveled with a special fine. After using the plaster mixture, the final step is the application of fine putty and its rubbing after drying.

I would like to note the fact that the installation of slopes is not the type of service for which the price is so high as to save. Therefore, many prefer to hire specialists who, in exchange for your money, will save you time. You will only have to enjoy the beautiful view and cleanliness at a minimum cost. However, even the masters need control, so this knowledge will certainly come in handy.

The installation of plastic windows assumes that the installation opening will be subjected to a certain impact. This will lead to the fact that numerous defects will appear: cracks and holes from fallen plaster, exposure of the base of the walls, protruding excess foam. The best option in order to correct this situation is the manufacture of plastic slopes. This material is ideal for such work. But the most important thing is that all the work can be carried out independently, which significantly saves the family budget.

Finishing window slopes inside with plastic is a universal solution that is currently becoming increasingly popular. This material is used for work inside and outside the premises. The fact is that such a product has excellent technical characteristics, which are as follows:

  • Ease of installation. If we compare the surface cladding process with other options, then its advantages will immediately become noticeable. Do-it-yourself window decoration does not require special skills, the main thing is to understand the basic principle and follow the rules.
  • Durability. Indeed, this material has an excellent service life. If installed correctly, plastic slopes will last for many years. The only thing that can happen is that such a coating will get bored.
  • Ease of maintenance. Modern material options do not require special conditions for themselves. They are quite resistant to any detergents, do not absorb odors and dirt. Of course, this does not mean that strong chemicals can be used for washing. Everything has its measure.
  • No exposure to moisture. Finishing the slopes with plastic avoids destruction. The fact is that metal-plastic windows often contribute to the appearance of condensate. This leads to the fact that gypsum or plaster options quickly become unusable.
  • Availability. The material differs in price, which will be affordable for everyone who plans to install.

Plastic panels for slopes have good technical characteristics

Of course, if you set a goal, you can find some disadvantages of such a product, but they are completely leveled against the background of advantages.

What material to choose?

Before asking the dilemma of how to make slopes on plastic windows, it is necessary to consider the types of material that are used for such work. It is customary to distinguish two main varieties used for installation:

Slope installation

Regardless of what material is chosen, a standard set of tools and consumables is used for work. You may need:

  • starting profile.
  • Wooden beam.
  • Internal and external plastic corners, platbands.
  • Insulation.
  • Waterproofing tape and sealant, polyurethane foam.
  • Spatula and dry putty.
  • Capacity.
  • Electric jigsaw.
  • Screwdriver and level.
  • Construction gun for glue and "liquid nails", self-tapping screws.

Standard set of tools for installation of slopes

The exact list of additional elements depends on how the plastic slopes on the windows will be installed.

Option number 1

This option is used when the mounting seam is a small gap. That is, the distance from the frame to the adjacent wall is minimal. This creates some difficulty, because it is necessary to take into account the location of the hinges and opening doors. Therefore, the work is carried out according to certain instructions:

  1. Before installing plastic slopes, cut off excess foam. This is done using a construction or clerical knife. It is necessary to eliminate a common mistake - removing too much foam, because the cut must be flush with the surface of the frame. Otherwise, the existing balance will be violated, which will require additional efforts.

    Trimming excess foam

  2. Removed areas of plaster that are prone to falling off. There is no need to remove the entire layer, only damaged fragments. The surface is cleaned from the remnants of dust and dirt.

    Removal of damaged areas of plaster

  3. Do-it-yourself installation of plastic slopes assumes that all areas will be treated with a special primer. It is better to choose penetrating formulations in which antiseptic components are added.
    Treatment of window slopes with a penetrating primer

    On a note! To prevent the formation of mold and fungus, special substances are used. This procedure should not be neglected, because such problems are the scourge of plastic windows.

  4. Next, a wooden rail is fixed. It must be mounted along the outer perimeter of the opening. For fastening, dowels and self-tapping screws are used. It is better to make a structure that will be installed on a vertical and horizontal (upper) section, so that the racks do not come into contact with the top bar.

  5. Now a very important procedure is being carried out: it is required to cut the mounting foam to form a groove into which the panel will be installed. It must be taken into account that each fragment must be immersed - by 0.8 - 10 mm. The cut is made directly next to the frame to form a stronger fit. After all, finishing slopes with plastic with your own hands requires that all gaps be minimal, or better, absent.

    The mounting foam is trimmed as close as possible to the window frame.

  6. This completes the first preparatory stage. It is necessary to perform high-quality cutting of parts. This is a very important point, if it is produced incorrectly, then PVC can no longer be installed with high quality with your own hands.

    Detailing can be done in two ways: take measurements and transfer the data to the material, or make a stencil. BUT! Each of the methods must take into account that 10 mm will be needed to insert into the groove, and the thickness of the elements themselves must also be calculated, because they will form a common perimeter.

    Cutting the plastic panel must be done very carefully
  • Using a hacksaw for metal or an electric jigsaw, plastic is cut for slopes. Numerous burrs may remain along the edges, they are removed with sandpaper.
  • Pre-installation in progress. It will help determine if there are defects. If the plastic is double-sided, then the wrong side is marked, it should be sanded a little. This will allow you to achieve better adhesion, because the installation of plastic slopes with your own hands is carried out using mounting foam, the adhesion of which to the smooth surface of the material will be much worse.
  • Now the parts are installed one by one in the required place. They are pre-shoved into the groove made. Careful alignment is carried out, for this a level is used.
  • The outer edge of the element is pushed back and the foam is spot-poured. Extreme care must be taken, because excess substance will lead to warping of the fragments.
  • The pieces are held together with masking tape. It is glued at the joints, as well as along the perimeter of the walls.

When filling mounting foam, it is important not to overdo it with its quantity.

It takes days to dry completely. Then a series of additional finishing activities begins. They lie in the fact that window slopes are treated with sealants, decorative corners are adjusted. They are seated with glue.

You need to trim the outer bevels. It often happens that platbands are used, they need to be placed around the entire perimeter. If we exclude the use of such products, then the sealing is carried out using putty, which will be hidden by wallpaper.

Option number 2

Do-it-yourself plastic slopes can also be mounted using a technology that differs significantly from the previous one. It lies in the fact that fastening is carried out much faster using the starting profile. For work any PVC materials are used.

The starting profile allows you to perform work on the installation of slopes several times faster

On a note! Sometimes you can find an abbreviation in the form - PVC. This designation is considered equivalent to PVC, but it was used in Soviet GOSTs for plastic coatings.

The initial stage begins with preparation. It consists in cleaning the surface and removing all defects. It is necessary to carefully apply a primer to all areas. The general technology for further work is as follows:

Sometimes a significant question arises: how to trim the slopes of windows with plastic if they have a large width. For this option, there are special wide panels that eliminate the need for grooving.

Installation in progress:

  • To achieve the best effect, do-it-yourself fragments on the windows begin to be mounted from the sidewalls.
  • Each part is inserted into the starting profile. If there are protruding surpluses, then they are cut off with a clerical knife.

  • Fixation of the material is carried out on the mounting foam. It is poured in small quantities. It should be borne in mind that there will be more void next to the window frame than at the edge. Therefore, the foam is distributed in such a way that swelling is not observed.
  • The panels are fixed with masking tape, which is glued to the walls. Finishing the window slopes with plastic is considered complete, but it is necessary to carry out finishing measures.
  • When the coating is dry, you can begin to install decorative corners. Particular attention is paid to external modules, they are joined and cut at 45-degree angles. Installation is carried out with glue.
  • All joints are additionally treated with sealant. Options are selected that will match the color of the installed material.

The final stage of facing the slopes is the installation of decorative corners.

On a note! The use of silicone should be avoided. This substance is not suitable for work on visible surfaces. The fact is that such a composition turns yellow very quickly and becomes covered with dirt.

Exterior cladding with plastic

How to make plastic slopes outside the room? Indeed, this material can be used on the outside of windows. But for work, only sandwich panels or sheet plastic are used, which have high strength indicators. The general technology does not differ from the internal one, but requires more thorough insulation and sealing.

In fact, slopes made of plastic material are a great solution. Undoubtedly, the development of technology will make it possible to obtain new products that will displace other options.
