How to choose a kitchen apron for the work area. Aprons for the kitchen - ceramic, mosaic, glass, MDF

The kitchen is the room where residents spend the most time. They not only cook food there, but also arrange dinner parties, receive guests and just relax at meals with the family. It is very important that the kitchen always remains neat and cozy.

To maintain cleanliness, special options for finishing work and adjacent surfaces are used, one of which is a kitchen apron.

Kitchen apron - what is it. Functions

The section of the wall between the upper and floor elements the headset is constantly exposed to aggressive influences - temperature extremes, splashes of water, oil and grease.

A kitchen apron is a construction of special panels designed to protect the part of the wall above working area from dirt and damage.

In addition to being protective, it also performs a decorative function - it can be used to diversify the interior of a kitchen set, making even the most ordinary set of furniture bright and stylish.

Types of formats for the production of wall panels for kitchen aprons

Depending on the format, an apron for a kitchen set can be presented:

  • panels (sheets);
  • tiles;
  • slats.

Panel apron can be:

  • whole - represented by one big sheet material occupying an area from 1.5 to 3 sq.m.;
  • prefabricated - consisting of several large panels. Their number varies from 2 to 6.

This is the most expensive, but at the same time convenient and easy-to-use option - due to a small amount seams or their complete absence, such aprons are easy to care for.

The tiled structure consists of small pieces of a square (less often rectangular) shape with a side length in the range of 20-60 cm. This is the most popular option for arranging an apron.

It is practical - when the panel is deformed, it is enough to replace only damaged tiles.

A slatted apron is a product made of narrow strips from 12 to 50 cm wide, interconnected and attached to a special base. The main advantage of rack structures is their low cost.

Before choosing an apron for a kitchen set, you need to clarify what size it will be.

Typically, the width of the protective panel is from 0.6 to 4 m, and the height is from 40 to 100 cm. The thickness of the coating varies from 4 to 10 mm.

It is desirable that the height of the apron be equal to the distance between the floor and upper cabinets of the headset.

Types of materials for the production of kitchen aprons

The operational and external qualities of a kitchen apron depend on the material from which it is made. It could be:

  • plastic;
  • ceramics;
  • glass;
  • natural or artificial stone;
  • wood;
  • metal;
  • Chipboard or MDF.

Plastic panels for kitchen apron

The plastic panels of the kitchen set are made from solid polyvinyl chloride. They have a hollow honeycomb structure, thanks to which they provide additional heat and sound insulation.

The advantages of this material include:

  • ease of installation and maintenance;
  • a light weight;
  • affordable cost;
  • durability.

However, plastic is vulnerable to mechanical stress, afraid of abrasive detergents and caustic chemicals, and may melt if overheated.

Kitchen apron made of ceramic tiles

Ceramic tile or mosaic is one of the most popular kitchen panel design options. It became widespread due to advantageous combination High Quality and affordable cost.

The advantages of ceramic coating include:

  • durability;
  • external attractiveness;
  • resistance to moisture and mechanical stress.

The only difficulty is that for the installation of such tiles you will need a special stable putty.

Glass Kitchen Wall Panels

Glass protective panels are called skinali. They have the following advantages:

  • resistant to scratches and impacts;
  • have a perfectly smooth surface on which dirt does not accumulate;
  • easy to clean;
  • provide the headset with a stylish look.

High-quality glass is not cheap, and not all of its types can withstand temperature extremes. Therefore, such a design should be chosen very carefully.

Stone kitchen apron

A stone apron looks much more refined and aristocratic than a ceramic tile coating and at the same time has high characteristics:

  • not afraid of temperature changes;
  • not susceptible to the formation of fungus and mold;
  • easy to restore - the damaged surface can be simply sanded.

Panels from natural stone very expensive and heavy, so most often they are replaced by more affordable, but no less practical and attractive slabs of artificial material. It could be decorative concrete, porcelain stoneware and different kinds composites (mixtures of natural stone filler and polyester resins).

Wooden apron for kitchen set

Wood is the most expensive material used to make kitchen backsplashes. Noble maple, cedar, alder or oak are covered with a special wax that protects the panel from swelling and deformation.

Despite the fact that the wooden apron looks elegant, it is rarely used in the kitchen due to its high cost.

Metal kitchen apron

The metal apron is durable, not subject to any aggressive influences, but has only two textures - glossy and matte. It is ideal for minimalist or high-tech kitchens. Unfortunately, in other styles it will not look quite appropriate.

Kitchen wall panels made of chipboard and MDF

Chipboard or MDF are materials made from wood shavings. In other words, wood waste.

Chipboard uses toxic synthetic substances for bonding, so it is not environmentally friendly and does not have high performance characteristics.

At MDF production use natural resins, which makes it a safe and reliable material.

Chipboard kitchen panels are laminated and look attractive, but they cannot boast of strength and are not resistant to impacts. high temperatures and water.

MDF products, on the contrary, are durable and can be used even in conditions high humidity but are more expensive.

Methods for attaching kitchen panels to the wall

Installation of an apron directly depends on its variety. In any case, it is advisable to pre-prepare the surface to which the structure will be attached - level it with a special primer and treat it with an antifungal compound.

If you are using kitchen panels or a one-piece structure, they can be installed in three ways:

  • screws is the easiest method. To hide the hats, use caps to match the color of the apron;
  • on hinged fasteners - flat metal clips. They allow you to smooth the joints between the sheets;
  • on liquid nails or glue - The best way if you want to achieve the absence of visible fasteners.

If ceramic tiles are laid as an apron, then installation will take longer. It includes the following steps:

  • first outline the markup - the upper and lower levels of the apron;
  • a primer is applied, and an even wooden block is installed along the lower edge;
  • prepare the glue. It is not necessary to dilute the entire mixture at once - while the first layer of tiles is being laid, it may have time to harden and become unusable;
  • attach the first layer of tiles, and then all subsequent ones. To create even seams, special crosses are used;
  • after a day, you can clean the apron from the seams, take out the crosses and apply a finish coat of waterproof grout.

When carrying out all work, it is necessary to control the evenness of the lines using the building level.

How to choose an apron for a kitchen set

Since the panels for the kitchen set carry an aesthetic load, their design should be not only attractive, but also suitable for the rest of the kitchen interior.

First of all, the color of the apron is selected:

  • white is a versatile color that will go with almost any headset. It not only creates an atmosphere of cleanliness and freshness, but is also very practical - soap stains and traces of water are not noticeable on it;
  • beige shades can also be used in any kitchen where there are warm colors;
  • mirror and glossy textures are ideal for small spaces - they allow you to visually expand the room;
  • dark aprons are used to create stylish, unusual interiors. They shade light headsets well;
  • bright panels or tiles (mosaic) of contrasting colors can dilute a plain kitchen set, adding color to it. The main thing is not to overdo it with details, so as not to overload the space and not make the interior “flashy”.

The apron protects the walls in the working area from grease and dirt, steam and heat, while it is always in sight and is the first to catch the eye when entering the kitchen. Therefore, it must be, firstly, simply indestructible, and secondly, beautiful. In this article we will tell you what aprons are, what are the pros and cons various materials, as well as which apron to choose for the kitchen in design and size.

Overview of materials

Ceramic tile

Ceramic tiles are the most popular material for finishing an apron.

Pros: easy to clean, durable, resistant to moisture, fire, alkalis and acids. Tiles are eco-friendly and inexpensive. Among ceramic tiles there is a wide variety of shapes and sizes, textures and designs, and there are a great variety of laying methods. The tile can be combined with any countertop, organically fit into both modern and classical interior. If desired, wall tiles can be laid independently.

Cons: a tile apron has weakness- seams. If the tile itself is cleaned once or twice, then you have to mess with the grout and periodically update it. Another disadvantage is that the laying process is quite messy and requires a level base.

Selection Tips:

  • Light tiles + light seams - an impractical combination, as over time the seams darken and look untidy.
  • To make the backsplash easy to clean, give preference to a smooth matte tile, rather than glossy and / or embossed.
  • To seal the seams of the tile backsplash, you need to use a waterproof grout designed for kitchens.
  • For classic kitchens square small-format tiles are more suitable, as well as tiles with a pattern under majolica .

  • To diversify a simple tiled apron will help decorative inserts as in the photo below, mosaic borders and accents.

Mosaic

Mosaic can be made from ceramic, porcelain stoneware, glass, smalt, stone and metals, and sometimes from all of these materials at the same time. Mosaic for sale already folded on a grid-matrix.

Pros: strength (especially smalt mosaics), the possibility of facing curved or just not too flat surface, the possibility of compiling a complex and unique artistic composition.

Minuses: big number seams, high price(higher than on ceramic tiles), a little more complexity and high cost of installation, especially when laying a complex pattern.

Selection Tips:

  • If you want to save money, use mosaics in combination with ceramic tiles, as, for example, in this interior in the photo below.

Combined mosaic and tile kitchen apron

  • Mosaics can be replaced by “mosaic-like” tiles, which are both cheaper and easier to install.

Artificial and natural stone

Most often, tiles (slabs) made of natural / artificial granite or marble about 2 cm thick are used to finish the apron.

Advantages of granite: due to its density and hardness, granite is durable, not afraid of fire and temperature changes, does not absorb moisture and dirt. The color of the granite apron can have the most different shade- gray-pink (the most common and inexpensive), yellow, blue, brown, red, black and almost white.

Cons of granite: high price, the need for professional installation. Granite purchased from an unscrupulous manufacturer may be radioactive.

Advantages of marble: marble apron is perhaps the most beautiful. Domestic marble can be relatively inexpensive.

Cons of a marble apron: marble has a high moisture absorption, which is why it absorbs grease and dirt. Shine is lost over time, and some stains, for example, from rust or beet juice, may simply not be washed off.

pros artificial stone(agglomerate): ease of care, strength, seamlessness of the finished apron, a variety of colors and textures, the possibility of restoration.

Cons of artificial stone: high price (higher than porcelain stoneware, ceramics, glass).

MDF and chipboard

It is not practical, not safe and expensive to use wood for finishing an apron, so it is replaced with budget imitations - MDF or laminated chipboard. The thickness of such an apron can be from 4 to 15 mm. As a rule, MDF and chipboard are matched to the countertop.

Pros: the ability to arrange an apron to match a wooden or stone countertop, low price, easy and quick installation even on a curved wall, easy maintenance.

Cons: MDF and chipboard are not suitable for finishing the area behind the stove (especially gas), firstly, because of the high flammability, and secondly, because of the sensitivity to aggressive cleaning. Therefore, these materials are combined with a stainless steel insert or a glass screen. Another disadvantage of the MDF / chipboard backsplash is the presence of seams between the sheets, which are closed by moldings and corners, which complicates the cleaning of the kitchen and does not look too good.

Metal

Pros: matte and slightly textured stainless steel very easy to care for. Neither scratches, nor grease, nor cleaning products are terrible for her. Stainless steel apron is very durable and wear-resistant.

Cons: polished (not matte) steel, although very beautiful, is too impractical, because it easily leaves fingerprints, stains from water drops and scratches. In addition, a metal apron is only suitable for modern kitchens.

glass apron

To decorate the kitchen apron, they use not simple glass, but tempered glass, as it is stronger on impact and safer. If you try hard and break the glass, then it will not break into sharp fragments, but into small and smooth pebbles. A glass apron is hung on special dowels with decorative plugs.

Cons: the glass apron is only made to order exactly under individual sizes, you won't be able to cut it at the installation stage. Installation is carried out only by professionals. Another significant disadvantage glass - high price(from 5000 rubles per square meter).

Pros: a glass apron can be washed even with a brush and by any means, it does not scratch, is not afraid of fire, sunlight, temperature changes. Service life - about 10 years. Clear glass can be installed over “fragile” finishes, such as wallpaper or painted walls, photo collage or posters, brickwork or tree.

And glass is an excellent basis for photo printing. Such an apron is called skinali.

The glass apron is made not only in the form of solid sheets, but also in the form of tiles that can be folded traditional ways, for example, "herringbone" as in the following interior.

plastic apron

Plastic Wall panels- a good solution for a super-budget repair or kitchen design in a rented apartment or cottage.

Pros: the main advantage is the low price, which allows you to often change the look of the apron. Plastic is easy to clean, mounted independently and even on a curved wall.

Cons: plastic apron is not compatible with gas stove. It is also prone to scratches, abrasion and fading from sunlight. The service life of plastic is only a few years.

  • In Ikea, you can purchase a double-sided panel that is installed in special profiles. Such an apron can be changed independently at least every day.

How to choose the color and design of the kitchen apron

Here are some tips to help you choose suitable design apron and fix some kitchen flaws:

  • Most often, an apron is selected under the countertop and they are made either from the same material, for example, stone, or from materials that are as close as possible in color and texture. What else can you navigate when choosing the color and pattern of a kitchen apron? On the color and pattern of facades, walls, floors, curtains and other interior elements.

Blue apron supported by blue accents

The design of the kitchen apron echoes the wallpaper and facades

  • A dark apron is the most impractical. Against such a background, dust, drops of water, splashes of grease will be especially noticeable.
  • When choosing a bright color or a colorful pattern for an apron, remember that the interior should be designed in a neutral way.
  • Want to visually expand a small kitchen? Then arrange the apron so that it contains as much as possible horizontal lines. For example, it can be skinali striped or ceramic tile boar.
  • To increase the space and enhance the lighting of the kitchen will help and mirror apron. True, it is suitable only for those who rarely cook and rely on a beautiful appearance, because the mirror is very difficult to keep clean.

  • Food looks most appetizing on a warm background, for example, orange, red, yellow.

Determining height and dimensions

The standard height of the kitchen apron is 60 cm, which is convenient for people of medium and tall height. However, if most households are not tall, then it is better to make an apron 45-55 cm high. We also recommend slightly lowering the height of the apron if upper cabinets open up with door closers. After all, if opening such doors is not difficult, then in order to close them, you have to stand on a stool or do it in a jump.

For a kitchen set, partially or completely without wall cabinets, an apron can be issued standard height or overpriced. For example, it can reach the ceiling or occupy about ¾ of the wall. Below are examples of aprons for kitchen sets without wall cabinets.

Kitchen apron- the most responsible purchase after a kitchen set. At the same time, the kitchen set can theoretically be changed during operation - buy or remove cabinets, etc. - but such a number will not work with an apron, especially if it is made of tiles.

To change an apron from a tile is actually to start new renovation. Therefore, let's approach his choice with all responsibility and see how to choose it and what mistakes to avoid.

The first question that interests everyone is what to choose the color of the tiles for the apron? Should the backsplash match the color of the walls or the color of the kitchen unit? Or with the color of the countertop?

Of course, all the colors in the kitchen should be combined with each other. But this does not mean that the apron should be matched exactly to the walls, kitchen set, countertop or floor.

To begin with, it is almost impossible to choose ceramic tiles exactly to match the wallpaper. The tile has a texture that is different from the wallpaper (usually high-gloss), so even if the tile and wallpaper are the same color, the apron will still differ from the wallpaper.

If you have found an apron tile that perfectly matches the color of the wallpaper, you are in luck. And what if the tile is lighter than wallpaper, then darker, then has a different shade?

Ask yourself - do you really need an apron to match the walls? This is necessary in such cases:

- when you want to make the kitchen as neutral as possible (cream, light beige, light gray, milky white walls and the same apron);

– when the wall with the headset has a different color in relation to other walls (for example, all the walls are cream, and the wall with the headset is red).

Of course, the first case is much more common than the second.

This is especially important in small kitchens - if the walls and the apron are made in one light color, the kitchen visually seems larger and neater.

Look at the photo on the right - here the wall, headset and apron are made in white. If you look closely, you can see that the white shades of the headset and the apron do not match - the headset has a warmer milky shade, and the apron is snow-white. But, as you can see, this does not spoil the kitchen at all. So, if you choose an apron for the kitchen to match the walls, a slight difference in shades is acceptable.

And if the difference in shades is noticeable (for example, the walls are cream, and the tiles have a clear sandy tint), then it is better then to choose a white apron - it will suit everything.

Many are afraid of a white apron, because it is stereotypically believed that White color boring. But in the kitchen, you definitely can’t be afraid of this, because, firstly, the apron is very rarely completely empty - roof rails, shelves for spices, and kitchen utensils almost always appear on it. And secondly, if the white apron seems boring to you, consider the decor - either “eternal”, that is, decorative tile inserts, or removable, that is, vinyl stickers - a great invention modern design. They are in the photo on the left.

Vinyl stickers are, in my opinion, preferable to decorative tiles, as they are easy to remove if they get bored. As you can see in the photo on the right, in an effort to decorate an apron for the kitchen vinyl stickers it is easy to get carried away and cross the line of reason - but this is fixable, which cannot be said about decorative tiles.

Vinyl stickers are more suitable for modern kitchens, and if you are making a kitchen in a classic, retro, country or cottage style, then it is better to decorate the apron with beautiful tile inserts.

So, advice for those who can’t choose the color of the apron for the kitchen:

- if the tile does not match the walls or if you can’t decide on the color of the apron - make it white - you can’t go wrong

Much easier than matching the walls to pick up contrasting apron. For example, as in the photo on the left, the walls and suites are white, and the apron is bright green.

Please note that the bright green color of the apron is supported by accessories - a rug, vases and flower pots.

This is important point:

a bright apron rarely looks good if its color is not supported by at least a couple of accessories.

However, do not fall into a rush and pick up a bright kitchen appliances or other large objects to match the apron, as in the photo on the right. As you can see, this makes the kitchen very deliberate, even rough. Much better:

a bright apron and 3-4 medium-sized accessories to match him, located not on the headset

Bright colors in the kitchen are very appropriate, they tone up and amuse, surrounded by bright colors don't want to freak out. The only question is whether you will get tired of a bright apron for the kitchen soon. If the answer is “no”, then feel free to choose a bright color for the apron and pick up 3-4 accessories in the same color: flower pots or a teapot, or a teapot, a vase, napkins on the table, potholders, etc.

And if you are still afraid, then make the main surface of the apron white, and lay out its top and bottom with bright tiles, as in the photo on the right. Great move.

Now a little about the compatibility of a bright apron with a headset. In general, choosing a bright apron for the kitchen and a bright set is for the strongest in spirit, especially if the kitchen is small. Two large, bright objects will “capture” the space, but they will almost certainly also require bright accessories. I note that the curtains in this case should be neutral.

Something like in the photo on the right, where the bright blue kitchen is complemented by a colorful bright apron and orange accessories - accessories of any calm color would simply be lost against such a bright background.

For example, as in the photo on the left, where a multi-colored apron for the kitchen is matched to one of the colors of the headset - dark red. But the accessories were picked up in calm neutral colors- as a result, we simply do not see them against the background of the apron. So, if you like active kitchen design, here is another tip for you:

- combining a bright apron with a bright headset, pick up contrasting bright accessories, and make the curtains neutral so as not to overload the space

Is it necessary for a bright apron to match in color with kitchen set like in the previous two photos? No, not necessarily, and even vice versa - it is desirable to use different colors. For example, perfect couples: orange + pistachio, coral + yellow, raspberry + light green, orange + bright blue, etc. But, as I said above, a bright apron + a bright kitchen is for the strong in spirit. Most people want something less active.

Then you can make a bright apron and a neutral color kitchen (white, light gray, vanilla, khaki, light sand, cream, beige, coffee, etc.).

Or, as in the photo on the right, a kitchen in the color of a honey tree - birch, light oak, acacia, etc. - and a colorful apron. Notice that the colors of the apron are supported by the dishes and chairs.

Pay attention to one more important point in this photo. The apron is not laid out decorative tiles, but ordinary, but different color. The result was variegation and brightness, although there is only one bright color of the tile - blue. The rest of the tiles are muted colors, but due to the variegation, the apron looks bright. Take note of this trick.

If you don’t want a plain bright apron, and decorative tiles are too expensive, look at the photo above and the photo on the left. The decorative effect is successfully created if you pick up ordinary tiles of different colors and lay them out in a certain order. It turns out not boring at all, rather motley, but not aggressive.

Another good way to make the apron more interesting, without falling into variegation and brightness, - arrange the tiles not at a right angle, but with rhombuses, as in the photo on the right. As you can see, such an apron looks dynamic, even if you choose tiles for the apron in pastel colors.

It is not necessary that tiles for such a “variegated-calm” apron should be from the same collection. The main thing is that it should be of the same size (usually 10 * 10 or 15 * 15 cm) and matching colors. The easiest way to pick colors from one color palette.

So one more tip:

the apron will be pleasantly colorful if you lay it out with ordinary tiles of different colors from the same palette

use calm colors for such an apron - pastel, autumn, water - it will still be active

_________________
If you like complex ornaments and are sure that they will not bother you, you can lay out the entire apron with decorative tiles, as in the photo on the right. It is, of course, expensive, but, as you can see, it is very beautiful. But, I repeat, you need to be sure that you will not get tired of it soon, because it will be a pity to dismantle such an expensive and beautiful apron in five years.

Such tiles in Europe are often called artesana, emphasizing its piecework and uniqueness. beautiful patterns– many, some of them are simply fascinating.

Of course, it is undesirable to close such an apron with roof rails.

In the photo on the left you see literally a work of art - an apron for the kitchen in the Suprematist style. Such an apron requires not only the absence of any accessories, but also perfect cleanliness.

Those who want maximum individuality lay out the apron not with tiles or even with decorative tiles, but with mosaics - this turns out to be much more expensive, but almost any pattern can be laid out.

For a mosaic apron, it is advisable to choose calm colors, as in the photo on the right, because a small mosaic gives fragmentation and variegation.

Otherwise, it can turn out like in the photo on the left, where a colorful apron attracts all the attention to itself and becomes the main object in the kitchen - but is this role typical of it?

Since the mosaic is very expensive, manufacturers produce ceramic tiles that imitate mosaics - the tile consists, as it were, of small pieces, but is glued like a regular tile. Such a tile can be used as decorative inserts, or you can lay out the entire apron from it, but pay attention to the photo on the right, that even in soothing colors it gives a very fractional and therefore active pattern. There is even a feeling of too monotonous rhythm.

So one more tip:

an apron made of mosaic or mosaic tiles is best done in soothing, soft colors

Another interesting story in the kitchen it is a black and white or black apron. I have been asked more than once what I think about this decision. I think this solution is not bad, but in its place. A black and white checkered backsplash is great in 60s style kitchens with lots of red, steel and wood.

Concluding the conversation about ceramic tile aprons, I will say a little about one fashion trend. A very popular decision is to make the apron monophonic, and single out one zone (at the stove or at the sink) with tiles with beautiful pattern- plot, as in the photo on the left, or ornament, as in the photo below.

Ceramic tiles are not the only material from which you can make an apron for the kitchen. But I will talk about other materials in separate article, otherwise the volume of the article will be too large._______

Apr 3, 2017 Sergey

Many underestimate the role of a kitchen backsplash in design due to its small area. But just because of the small area, it is possible to make an apron cool without spending a lot of money on it. 2 most modern options for an apron - tiles and glass. All ideas can be implemented in them and it will be right. But we will analyze all the materials used and what are their pros and cons.

We will not remind you of this again, but consider the size of the kitchen and the density of objects caused by it. How less area, the greater the concentration kitchen utensils, and the less details should be on the apron itself (i.e. without patterns, etc.).

Technical nuances of choosing an apron

Apron area dimensions

The standard height of the apron is 50-60 cm, depending on the height of the household and the type of stove. If tiles are used, then the standard is 30 + 30 + 0.1 cm. a height of 30 cm is the standard size of the tiles plus the seam between them. Although now this rule is not strict and there are many tile sizes. If the hood is not built-in, then it is placed at a distance of 70-80 cm, which means that the apron will turn out higher. This is important to consider if you are going to make a glass skinal. in this case, the manufacture will cost a little more, or you will have to finish the wall between the edge of the glass and the hood with something. When calculating the height, 2-3 centimeters of overlap are taken into account from above and below, so that the apron goes behind cabinets and countertops.

The work surface should run around the entire perimeter of the kitchen, and not be limited to islands behind the sink and stove. Although water and dirt get behind the sink and stove more often, other places are still not safe. You don't need to save money on this.

If the sink is located in the corner of the kitchen, go with an apron to a perpendicular wall - the places around the sink are always the dirtiest.

Apron design and color

The color of the apron itself is important for design, but not for practicality. There are many types of dirt in the kitchen, so no matter what color of splashback you choose, there will be stains in contrast that will be visible on it.

Therefore, the most important thing in an apron is texture. The texture should not be uniform. any stain will be immediately visible on it. Conversely, on a contrasting and non-uniform texture, small spots are not visible at all. The best option these are imitations of various natural materials: concrete, marble, wood, stone. Or any patterns, in 2018 patterns are in fashion.

Light tiles are much more practical than dark ones, because. most of the spots are wet, and salt spots remain after the water dries. Although light tiles are quite a working option, the color of the grout for the apron should not be white. Best in terms of appearance and practicality dark shades gray. White tile with dark gray grout looks quite good:

If you are going to make a kitchen in monochrome colors, keep in mind that you will always have a lot of cooking items that are not always easy to find in black and white. Good idea combine monochrome cuisine and shades of green, such as light green. This natural combination is always relevant, and most importantly, there are a lot of kitchen utensils in light green, for example, cutting boards, potholders, hot coasters, etc. There is an interesting combination: and a glass apron, under which there is an image of grass. It turns out a complete borrowing of colors from nature.

Modern kitchen aprons ideas

The main thing to choose is the material of the apron:

  • ceramic tile
  • glass
  • phototile
  • mosaic
  • plastic
  • laminated MDF or chipboard (postforming)

Modern options are only the first two. They meet all the requirements for sustainability and practicality, and the number of appearance variations tends to infinity.

Photo tiles, plastic, MDF and chipboard - almost always look very cheap, moreover, photo tiles are actually not cheap. We do not recommend using these options, you can always find an inexpensive tile that will still look much better than postforming.

Both glass and tiles are the best in combination of appearance and practicality, it makes no sense to use something else, but for the sake of completeness, we will analyze everything.

Tile kitchen apron

We will compare tiles with glass. Tile Features:

  • Huge selection of formats, colors and textures.
  • Unlike glass, it can have a deep texture, which means it will look much cooler under the backlight, which is almost always built into the upper cabinets.
  • Minus - the seams between the tiles, which is not so critical, if you know, but still.

Apron area even on large kitchen rarely more than 2 square meters. So you can buy expensive cool tiles and make the apron really stylish. It is foolish to miss this opportunity - choosing more expensive facades or a countertop will cost a large amount, and it is quite possible to spend money on 2 meters of an apron.

The tile with imitation of wood, concrete and marble looks cool, but only with imitation and texture, and not just a pattern. The white boar is also still in fashion and most likely will not come out of it. It looks too stylish in both classic and modern styles. At the same time, there is absolutely no risk that it will look bad - a white boar is the most common and proven option.

AT classic styles there are no alternatives for the apron except for the tile design:

Photo tiles on the kitchen apron

Photo printing on a tile in all absolutely parameters loses to an apron made of glass. If you want a drawing, then you can order any and place it under glass. If it were about large areas, for example, a bathroom wall, then yes, it could make sense in a photo tile, but not on a kitchen apron.

Of the pluses, the ability to independently make a drawing with your own hands, and so that it is clear that the drawing is your own and unique. This is also possible with a glass skinal, but your work on a tile is perceived more interesting.

Mosaic for the kitchen on the apron

This option looks very cool and relevant, but it has one serious nuance. Mosaic involves a huge number of seams. If for a regular tile it is 1 horizontal and 3-5 vertical, then for a mosaic it is hundreds of seams. Therefore, using a regular fugue for a mosaic on an apron is a so-so option - it will lose its appearance very quickly. There remains an epoxy fugue, but it is very expensive, it will need a lot and not all masters can work with it. Therefore, either you have to fork out, or it is better to refuse the mosaic idea.

But there is Alternative option for an apron - pseudomosaic. This is a tile that externally imitates a mosaic texture and pattern. Mosaic tiles will cost much less, the area of \u200b\u200bthe seams on it will be ten times smaller, and this is important for an apron. If the tiler is experienced, and the color of the grout can be matched exactly to the color of the false joints on the pseudo-mosaic, then there will be almost no visual differences.

But the use of aprons is not limited only to the home - today it is a sought-after thing in many sectors of the manufacturing and service sectors. The apron has become not only a household item, but also useful thing many workers - bakers, cooks, hairdressers, waiters, salesmen, and even workers in the construction and related industries. By the way, for them the choice of an apron is based on several other rules.

What material is better to buy a kitchen apron

An apron in the kitchen is an indispensable thing that not only protects clothes from stains, but also makes the cooking process more hygienic - because clothes that have to be worn throughout the day accumulate sweat particles, dust, and surface contaminants, which can also be transmitted and for food. It is thanks to the apron that additional cleanliness will be ensured - it will be a kind of barrier between clothes and products entering the preparation.

As for protection and functionality - here you should pay attention to the material:

  • First of all, it is worth remembering that in the process of cooking or cleaning the apron quickly gets dirty, and you will have to wash it often. To keep it looking neat, you need to choose an apron made of practical fabric, which, regardless of cut and color, will be easy enough to wash. Stains should be without special efforts removed from the material - then a lot of time will not be spent on washing, and the appearance of the hostess will be impeccable. Most suitable material in this context, there are cotton and linen for a kitchen apron, and a polyethylene apron is suitable for cleaning the house and washing dishes. By the way, for cooking it will be very impractical, because it immediately loses its shape upon contact with hot;
  • When preparing food for households or guests, in the kitchen you have to deal not only with food, but also with boiling water, hot surfaces (for example, a stove) and utensils. Due to insufficient protection against high temperatures, the cooking process can become less safe and enjoyable, so it is recommended to choose an apron for the kitchen from heat-resistant materials. The fabric should not be afraid of high temperatures - then the apron will last a long time, and even if it does not bring special protection to the body, it will still remain neat and will not “earn” holes or bald spots when touching hot;
  • The fabric for the apron must be durable. You will have to wash the apron at least once a week, or even more often - after all, using it with a layer of stains and dirt on the surface is unhygienic, and when you see the hostess wearing a dirty apron, guests will be strictly unsure of the deliciousness and usefulness of the dishes served on the table. Frequent washing can quickly destroy the structure of the fabric - it can stretch, rub, tear. Therefore, aprons made of chintz, cotton, satin or denim are the most suitable in terms of strength. In addition to being durable, they are also easy to wash. A nylon apron is not suitable - it is better to leave it for serving dishes, or for simply cutting a salad - such a thing will not withstand tough kitchen tests.

And of course, the apron should be in harmony with the decor and interior of the kitchen.
Quite often, men become cooks in the kitchen. Therefore it takes place right choice male kitchen apron The selection rules will be similar, only the choice of colors will differ.

The color and style of the apron is also important.

It is important for every woman to look good and stylish, even when she is doing housework or doing other household chores. Therefore, it is imperative to buy a kitchen apron in the color you like, and at the same time choose it so that this element of the kitchen wardrobe is combined with other elements of the kitchen interior.

Unlike other aprons, the task of which is purely to stand up for the protection of the cleanliness of clothes or working uniforms, kitchen aprons, being an element of comfort, are decorated with various elements. Professional aprons for maintenance and working personnel are always simple and concise, without unnecessary elements that can distract and interfere in the process of work.

Women can choose any apron in the color they like - their variety is quite wide, both plain and with prints, patterns, ribbons, decorations. In general, to make the spots less noticeable, hostesses often choose products in variegated colors. But this is not so necessary - in ideal the color of the kitchen apron can be anything, but it’s more practical not to choose too much light shade, and not too dark to be too gloomy.

For a man in the kitchen, a plain, discreet apron is suitable, dark in color - blue, black, brown, green, gray, without additional decorations.

What form of apron in the kitchen is the most practical

Aprons for the kitchen can be short and long, straight without additional elements and with ruffles, frills. Their main difference is in one thing - an apron can be simple, in the form of a canvas with a tie at the waist, and cover only the lower part, or with a bib - to protect the upper part of the clothing as well. It is best to choose one that has a chest part as an apron for the kitchen - after all, it is more reliable to provide more complete protection in order to keep the maximum of the garment perfectly clean.

Ruffled aprons, whether regular or top protective part, in terms of functionality they are not inferior to products of a simple cut, but in general they are less practical, since they retain their shape for less time after washing. But for those who care about staying beautiful, this option cannot be ruled out.

It is also important for an apron to have additional amenities. More convenient and practical to use are aprons with pockets. You can put a small towel or potholder in your pocket, and at the right time you can get a thing for use. Moreover, before buying, it is worth trying on an apron, and pre-testing the pockets - it is more convenient when they are at such a height at which you can easily get the right thing from your pocket without bending down.

How to choose an apron size

The size of the apron is also important, because all ease of use depends on it. An apron that is too long will constantly get under your feet, not allowing you to take a normal step, and an apron that is too wide will hinder movement, or it will not sit properly at all in the silhouette, since they will have to wrap themselves several times. Too short an apron is also a problem, because it will not cover and protect clothes properly.

The optimal length of the apron for the kitchen is when it covers the entire upper part clothes, and from below reaches the middle of the thigh. The width of the apron should be at least half the waist - similarly, so that the front of the clothes does not get dirty, but not more than 2/3 of the circumference, otherwise it will be inconvenient to tie the apron at the waist.

It is best to buy kitchen aprons in several versions - different cuts, different shapes from different material- one for cooking, with a simple cut, the second - for cleaning, made of waterproof material, with a bib, and the third - elegant, ruffled, bright and stylish, for serving dishes and welcoming guests. And several aprons, identical in purpose, will greatly simplify their care - one apron can be quickly replaced with another when the already used one is washed and dried!

By the way, a beautiful and elegant apron from the catalog of aprons for the kitchen will also be a great gift for any hostess - you can be sure of that. Having made such a gift, you will cheer up the recipient, and bring a touch of joy and comfort to his home environment!
