Important! Any natural or artificial reservoir can be used as a source of water, centralized water supply or a container raised above the ground by 1.5-2 m to ensure required pressure in system.

Having developed a plan for the greenhouse, they proceed to the second stage of installing drip irrigation with their own hands from polypropylene pipes- calculation of the length of the pipeline.

Marking the pipeline and installing drip tape

  • This stage, regardless of the design features of the irrigation system, will be common to all drip irrigation designs based on do-it-yourself pipes. It involves the installation of a drip tape on the pipeline.
  • Recall that in the previous step we made detailed plan greenhouses, indicating on it the exact location of the beds. We need it to implement correct markup pipeline.
  • According to the plan, using a marker, mark the main pipeline, marking on it the places where the drip tape is attached;

  • In places where marks are made, drill holes with a drill. Make sure that the size of the holes is such that the rubber seals are inserted into them with little effort;
  • After all the necessary holes are prepared, insert rubber seals into them;
  • Next, start-connectors equipped with a tap are inserted into the rubber seals;
  • To secure the start connectors, simply tighten the nuts.
  • Thanks to the specified installation features, automatic watering of the greenhouse acquires additional property, underlying its work - the ability to turn off a certain bed without stopping the entire irrigation system;

Important! In some kits, start connectors come without taps, and therefore, when choosing a kit, try to ensure that they are equipped with a tap. Otherwise, to turn off a particular bed, it will be necessary to turn off the entire irrigation system.

  • In most cases, taps are installed on those beds that do not need constant watering.
  • Next, the drip tape is attached to the start connectors. In the process of its fastening, there are usually no difficulties. To secure the drip tape, the nuts are also tightened;
  • During the installation of the drip tape, make sure that the droppers on it are located on top;
  • Having fixed the drip tape, it is stretched to the end of the bed and drowned out. To do this, it is cut off in the right place, the end is folded, cut and fixed. The latter can be done using the drip tape itself;
  • If your beds are not well-configured, you can always branch your drip tape with splitters. To do this, the drip tape is cut in the right place, a tee or corner is inserted and the watering is oriented in the right direction;
  • The opposite end of the main pipeline is muffled with special plugs.

What needs to be used for arranging automatic watering?

For the arrangement of automatic watering, you will need a constant source of water. If there is no supply water supply, install a storage tank and constantly monitor the water level in it. Automation of this process is also possible, however, in this case, a constant supply of water will be required;

Water supply can be carried out either constantly in small doses or periodically, depending on the nature of the plants, as well as on the presence of a constant flow of water. The soil in the immediate vicinity of the plant is actually constantly in a moist state, due to which root system develops locally, not spreading to drier areas of the soil. In a greenhouse environment, this is an important factor.

Water, flowing through the irrigation pipes, moves very slowly, which, in turn, allows it to warm up to optimal temperatures. Constant humidity mode combined with optimal temperature allows you to recreate a subtropical climate in the greenhouse, which has a beneficial effect on the growth and fruiting of plants throughout all seasons.

So, we create automatic drip irrigation for the greenhouse. To make drip irrigation with your own hands, you will need some patience and certain skills. Do-it-yourself installation of an automatic watering system

To install a watering system with your own hands, you will need a thin, 10-15 mm in diameter, opaque PVC (or polyethylene) tube, preferably black, to prevent the growth of algae and microorganisms in it. Since the water in the system moves very slowly, the small diameter of the hose will allow you to create the pressure necessary for watering. Optimal length tube segments - 6-8 meters. From these fragments you have to make automatic watering with your own hands. You will also need nozzles, which can be used as a mechanism of medical drip systems with a hole diameter of 1-2 mm. Their number is determined by the number of seedlings. Nozzles are attached to the hose in the right places.

You can purchase ready-made watering tape, which is commercially available. The optimal choice is a tube with a thickness of about 200 microns and a diameter of 16 mm, with droppers mounted at regular intervals. Drip irrigation of cucumbers, beets and carrots involves a gap of 15 cm, drip irrigation for tomatoes - 30 cm. In this drip system, one nozzle per hour passes about a liter of water, irrigating the soil in a radius of more than 20 cm. Collecting such automatic watering with your own hands is easy.

Fittings (fittings) are used as tube clamps, which are a short plastic tube with a thread and a nut on one side and rubber seal- with another. The fitting can be supplied with a separate tap. This design is used for watering plants with different needs and provides for autonomous irrigation control. In addition, as necessary, do-it-yourself seals, plugs, clamps, connectors, faucets, elbows and other devices are used to install the drip system.

In the case of connecting a drip hose to the pipeline, you will have to resort to drilling. Having firmly fixed the pipe, holding it firmly with your hands, a hole is drilled in it (d = 14.5 mm). Then insert the o-ring and fitting. Compliance with the order is a must. Then the pipe is laid across the beds, all fittings are fixed in the same plane, watering tapes are connected to them, fixed with threads and nuts on the fittings.

The source of water in the greenhouse can be any tank, fixed with your own hands at a height of 2-3 m, equipped with a valve that regulates the supply (pressure) of water. Water for irrigation can be well, but not tap water or taken from natural reservoirs. In the case of the latter, the microorganisms and algae that live in it in in large numbers, when it enters the favorable environment of the irrigation system, they will instantly begin to multiply, which will lead to clogging of hoses and nozzles. If you still have to use tap and natural water, it must be defended and filtered before use. The drip irrigation system uses two types of filters: disc and mesh (for collecting debris, sand, algae). However, given the considerable cost of the filter, the owner has the right to decide what is more profitable for him: buying a filter or replacing the drip hose multiple times.
