Material rolled roofing and waterproofing polymeric. Polymeric bituminous mastics

Roofing roll material is the most popular way to finish the roof of any country house. Modern market offers a wide range of materials, each of which is good in its own way. What to give preference and what to look for when choosing?

Main categories

All roll materials for roofing are divided depending on the type of base into basic or baseless. According to the type of components of the coating composition, they are bitumen, polymer or bitumen-polymer. The base can be cardboard, asbestos, polymers, fiberglass or a combination of materials, and the protective layer has a fine-grained, coarse-grained or fiberglass structure. All these types of rolled roofing materials are widely used in construction. Consider the features of each type in more detail.

Bituminous: cheap and easy

Glassine is another material created from roofing paper and impregnated with bitumen. The material is thin and less durable compared to roofing material, so it is most often used as a lining.

Built-up roofing materials

Built-up roofing is an excellent solution for arranging the roofs of buildings, structures in the field of industrial and civil construction. Such materials are suitable for waterproofing both roofs and foundations, floors and ceilings. Rolled roofing welded material is easy to install, so a large amount of work can be done in just a day. Its peculiarity is that rot-resistant fiberglass or fiberglass is used as the basis, which increase strength.

As bitumen modifiers, polymers are used, which increase resistance to various influences and increase strength. The rolled roofing welded material is characterized by high elasticity, flexibility in low temperatures and high heat resistance. An important role in the welded materials is played by the structure of the top layer, whose task is to protect the roof. The roof covering should serve as protection against heat, ultraviolet radiation, precipitation. To minimize this effect, sprinkle coating is used.

Rolled roofing waterproofing welded material most often has a dressing of different fractions - coarse-grained or fine-grained, scaly or dusty. Basalt, slate, sand, ceramic chips are used as raw materials. When choosing, you should focus on several factors:

  1. The complexity of the relief of the roof structure, as well as the angle of its slope.
  2. temperature regime in the region.
  3. The amount of precipitation that falls on average per year.
  4. Possible loads that can lead to deformation.

Bituminous materials for waterproofing

A number of roofing materials serve not only to cover the structure, but also to high-quality waterproofing. Among them - metalloizol. This material has a three-layer structure: bitumen - foil - bitumen. This is a durable roofing that shows excellent performance properties, has high strength and reliability.

No less popular is a bituminous rolled roofing and waterproofing material called isol. Rubber, mineral sealants, antiseptic and polymer additives are added to it during production. Such a composition serves as a guarantee that the material will show increased heat resistance. Suitable for flat shape and overlays. On the basis of asbocellulose, a hydroisol is created, the main difference of which is increased rot resistance. It is widely used in waterproofing basements and areas that are poorly ventilated.

Thus, roofing bituminous rolled and built-up materials are a wide range of coatings that are made in the form of canvases and can be used in various areas of construction. The secret of their popularity is their affordable cost, as well as increased resistance to various influences.

Bitumen-polymer materials

If the bottom layer in the form of a binder is glued to the welded roofing, it will show good waterproofing properties. Rolled roofing waterproofing welded material most often has a binder component in the form of roofing bitumen and fillers in the form of polymeric additives, which increase the service life and performance properties.

It leads to an increase in heat resistance and a decrease in frost resistance of the coating. To avoid such phenomena, atactic polypropylene (APP) or styrene-butadiene-styrene elastomers (SBS) are added. In this way, polymer-bitumen rolled roofing material is obtained. It costs more, but excellent performance properties in combination with high reliability and durability will appeal to many owners of country houses.

Features of bitumen-polymer materials for roofing

Two-component roofing materials in the form of rolls in Lately are in high demand. They consist of bitumen and polymer, the volume of which is about twelve percent. The basis for this type of coating are polyester, fiberglass, rubber crumb or thermoplastic. Such roofing roll material has a number of features:

  1. High plasticity.
  2. Crack resistance.
  3. Possibility of operation in different temperature ranges.
  4. High strength.
  5. Reduced brittleness temperature.
  6. Elevated softening point.

The use of bitumen-polymer types of coating is advisable when erecting a flat or pitched roof with a maximum slope of twenty-five degrees. Otherwise, the coating may slip. Roll roofing materials for the top layer based on bitumen and polymers are presented in several types.

"Monoflex"

This is a multilayer material consisting of polyester, a film, polymerized bitumen as a base and a coating in the form of ceramic chips. Thanks to modified additives, it is possible to increase performance characteristics. This material comes in a number of varieties, the most popular of which are Copprflex with an inert copper outer layer and Aluflex with an aluminum outer layer. These coatings are characterized by high heat resistance and durability.

"Isoplast"

Material rolled roofing "Isoplast" consists of polymerized bitumen and a base in the form of polyester or fiberglass. It is available in two varieties - roofing and lining. The top layer has a coarse-grained dressing on the front side and a polyethylene film on the other, and the bottom layer is polyethylene film, which is covered on both sides with a sprinkle of fine-grained fraction. Such a structure of the material contributes to the fact that it acquires flexibility, resistance to bending and cracking. The polymer film on the bottom serves to protect the coating and guarantee its safety.

Other bitumen-polymer materials

Any roofing roll material based on bitumen and polymers has a number of advantages:

  1. The high quality of the binder component is the key to reliability under any temperature changes.
  2. High elasticity results in improved flexibility at low temperatures.
  3. The coating has good adhesion to the powder.

Among the materials popular in construction, rolled roofing of the Technoelast series can be noted. They are produced by double-sided application of a bitumen-polymer binder to a polyester or fiberglass base. It, in turn, consists of bitumen, SBS modifier and mineral filler in the form of talc or dolomite. And the protective layer is created on the basis of sprinkling of different fractions and a polymer film. The covering is widely applied in creation of a roofing carpet in various buildings which are operated in any climatic conditions.

Polymer roll roofing materials

Roll polymer roofing material is created on the basis of petroleum resins or rubber. These types of coatings belong to a new generation and have durability and high reliability. Their service life reaches twenty years or more, and roofs of any configuration can be covered with them - flat, pitched, gently sloping, and even with round slopes. Laying is carried out by strip or continuous gluing based on adhesive mastic, moreover important role plays ground preparation. Some materials are secured with a weight or mechanically.

polymer membrane

This is a modern roofing roll material, which is increasingly used in the repair and decoration of the roof. Its popularity is due not only to its high reliability, but also to a wide range of color solutions, resistance to temperature extremes and durability, which reaches forty years. This innovative material is a single-layer roof, which is made from flexible polyvinyl chloride by hot air welding. This roofing is:

  • resistance to ultraviolet radiation;
  • immunity to the most adverse weather conditions;
  • resistance to various bacteria, chemically aggressive substances;
  • resistance to rotting and decomposition;
  • the possibility of creating a coating with a breathable effect.

All this distinguishes this rolled roofing material (GOST is installed in technical documentation) from others.

Types of polymer membranes

PVC-based membranes are the most common in Russia. They consist of polyvinyl chloride, to which plasticizers are added. Their purpose is to increase frost resistance and give elasticity. A special reinforcing base gives reliability and strength, while the seam sections are strong and tight.

Membranes based on thermoplastic polyolefins are innovative material, to which components are added that improve the fire-prevention and operational properties of the surface. Such membranes are characterized by a combination of the advantages of PVC and rubber. Therefore, they are better combined with bitumen. And this, in turn, affects the greater strength of the material.

EPDM-based membranes have high elasticity and the ability to operate for a long time in the most extreme conditions. They are produced reinforced and unreinforced, which is necessary to increase the strength and reliability of the material. Moreover, any variety is characterized by elasticity and strength. The kit consists of additional parts with which you can waterproof difficult areas - sealants, fasteners.

Roofing materials by class

Depending on the durability, all roofing bituminous materials are divided into several types:

  • premium (service life - 25-30 years);
  • business (service life - 15-25 years);
  • standard (service life - 10-15 years);
  • economy (service life - 10 years);
  • sub-economy (service life no more than five years)

The premium-class materials include the Technoelast series. Features of these coatings - the ability to create a breathable roof, from which moisture will be removed, which has the ability to reduce the durability of the roof. With the help of materials of this type, it is possible to equip a single-layer roofing, solving the problem with swelling and making the installation itself easier and more convenient. For the arrangement of the lower layer of the roofing, you can use "Technoelast Fix", which makes it possible to mount the roofing carpet on the base. The roof will be resistant to deformation and able to withstand heavy loads. The operational features of the coating are such that it can be used in regions with any climatic conditions.

Two business-class materials can be distinguished - "Uniflex" and "Ecoflex". The first is good because it serves effective protection from moisture penetration, contributing to the durability of the structure. Both materials are a waterproofing sheet that provides roof ventilation. "Ecoflex" is an excellent solution for underground structures. This roofing roll material is advisable to use in regions with increased temperature conditions. Due to its quality and reliability, it will serve as roof protection for quite a long time.

Among the materials of the standard class, "Bipol" is in demand. It has a strong, non-rotting base, which is coated on both sides with a high-class bitumen-polymer binder. On the basis of this material, it is possible to equip a roof with a small slope, waterproof the foundations of buildings and structures.

The economical types include "Linocrom K", with the help of which it is equipped upper layer roofing carpet. It can be used as vapor barrier material at the bottom of the system. Its protective layer is made with fine-grained dressing or polymer film.

"Bikrost" - popular material, which is a waterproofing sheet with a strong base based on a bituminous binder. It is used when installing the lower layer of the roofing carpet. protective layer provided with fine-grained dressing or film. The cheapest roofing roll material is glassine. It is a roofing cardboard, which is additionally impregnated with oil bitumen. On the basis of this material, it is possible to repair and equip roofs with a service life of a maximum of five years.

Every experienced builder knows that moisture adversely affects the properties structural elements and integrity of structures, reducing their durability and reliability. In order to minimize the impact of water and increase the life of buildings at any stage of construction, from the foundation to roofing works It is recommended to use professional waterproofing materials. Each specific option is selected from the conditions of its operation. In fact, it is very easy to make the necessary waterproofing of any complexity, which requires appropriate skills, knowledge and understanding of the essence of the issue.

The main types of building materials for waterproofing

Polymer materials

The main properties of polymer waterproofing are its plasticity, which is determined by the content of technological resin, hardener, plasticizer, fillers and special additives. The final polymeric waterproofing material may consist of epoxy, acrylic or polyurethane resins. Usually it is placed on a prepared, dried surface, however, it is allowed to lay wet elements, including on concrete. As additives, active components are used that increase the adhesion of surfaces. Due to their elastic properties, polymers perfectly penetrate and close pores with cracks. In addition, they are suitable for organizing waterproofing of treatment facilities, sanitary and industrial buildings, sewers and tanks with chemicals.

Representatives:

  • acrylic - Ceresit CL 51;
  • epoxy - Ceresit CE 49;
  • polyurethane - Polybit Polyflex URE / UR.

Mineral insulation products

Waterproofing materials from mineral components and their solutions consist of a binder cement base, modifiers, water repellents and various fillers. Waterproof properties are achieved by the inclusion of hydrophobic components capable of filling the entire composition. The working mass is able to cover the air pores of materials, thereby preventing the absorption of capillary moisture.

The given materials for waterproofing are recommended to be applied to brick, monolithic blocks, plaster and concrete. The main requirement for the surface is a certain roughness, adhesion and flatness. Use mineral Construction Materials simple and convenient. Primer need not. Multi-layer application of the composition is allowed. The resulting waterproofing layer is resistant to ultraviolet and mechanical stress.

Great choice for protection ground floors, places where surfaces come into contact with rainwater, as well as to eliminate cracks and seal them.

Representatives:

  • liquid - Ceresit CO 81;
  • cement-containing - Ceresit CX 1 and Polybit Polycap.

Waterproofing materials of a polymer-cement composition are created from a sand-cement mass, with an admixture of polymer components. Depending on the brand of the composition, it may contain special fibers that create a reinforced reinforced layer, which significantly increases its strength qualities. Polymer-based additives give greater frost resistance, freedom, strength, water resistance and resistance to influence external environment working mixture.

Coatings using polymer cement materials come with elastic properties ( two-element), and rigid characteristics ( single element). The first option is appropriate for structures in which the size of cracks reaches 0.5 mm, and the last option for brick, reinforced concrete and concrete surfaces.

Representatives:

  • rigid - Ceresit CR 65;
  • elastic - Polybit Polyflex, Ceresit CL 50, Ceresit CR 66.

Modern waterproofing materials are made on the basis of bitumen. It can be both artificial components and products from the distillation of oil. Most often, such waterproofing has one- and two-component content, with the presence of fillers of synthetic or natural origin, as well as fabric fibers that give great strength characteristics.

Bitumen does not have a tendency to diffuse, which makes concrete or brick base make dry or barely damp. One of the conditions proper styling is the preparation of the base under the ground. Liquid bituminous materials are applied by spraying or by hand using brushes. They can be evenly distributed over the base, but are not able to protect pores and cracks from moisture.

Speaking of elastic and thixotropic mastics, it should be said that they are able to create layers of increased thickness, while clogging and sealing minor seams and defects. The condition for the use of bituminous components is protection against ultraviolet radiation and mechanical influence. The latter condition is met with the help of screeds, fabrics and polystyrene foam boards.

  • Polybit Polycoat.

Polymeric bituminous mastics

Bituminous mastics with polymer additives are pasty-type formations with the introduction of modified components and fillers. Such waterproofing materials have improved water resistance and deformability, while being more durable than other products.

The technology for the production of bitumen-polymer mastics differs from the method of manufacturing roofing material and deposited masses. In this case, the working solution is modified with polymers. This allows the bitumen to keep its natural properties and acquire additional ones, like modifier polymers. Polymers are understood as styrene - styrene-butadiene rubber or atactic polypropylene plastic.

Rubber bitumens turn out to be very plastic and reach brittleness only at a temperature of -40 degrees, while plastic turns out to be more heat-resistant, rigid and has a melting point of more than 155 degrees. It is worth adding that these are the main waterproofing materials for the southern regions with high temperature indicators. The described mastics are made for hot or cold application.

Bitumen-polymer suspensions

In construction, bitumen-polymer emulsions are used to protect mineral blocks and elements, as well as in the dilution of asphalt mastics, which have recently been widely used in plastering from moisture penetration. They consist of water bituminous emulsion, synthetic latex and mineral emulsifiers.

Adhesive bitumen-polymer membranes

Sticky waterproofing materials are applied to the surface by means of a self-adhesive film having 3 layers, including this:

  • sticky bitumen-polymer film;
  • rigid layer based on polyethylene;
  • anti-adhesion surface.

Membranes are necessary to protect horizontal and vertical surfaces from dust and moisture, for example, on subway lines, tunnels, underpasses, etc. Widely used to protect the entire area of the roof.

Roll waterproofing

Roll materials for waterproofing are made on the basis of a fiberglass or non-woven polyester base, with the application of bitumen-polymer binders. In the upper part, the material has a protective mineral dressing made of sand or a polymer film, and in the lower part, only a film. The properties of the base are distinguished by rigidity, the ability to resist deformation and rupture.

The characteristic of polyester is also interesting - it is quite elastic, which allows it to lengthen by more than 40%, while remaining intact. In view of this, the material is often used in structures where serious deformations and possible damage to waterproofing elements occur.

Laying of the material is carried out only after high-quality and thorough surface preparation, with a mandatory primer. Are applied roll coatings both in one and in several layers, depending on the magnitude and type of external load.

Inclusions that increase the water resistance of materials

Concrete and waterproofing solutions are modified by adding additives of natural or artificial chemical origin. They are introduced directly during the preparation of building masses. The main task is to impart improved and hardened properties, namely:

  1. hardening acceleration;
  2. reducing the setting time of the composition;
  3. increasing frost resistance;
  4. increase in water resistance.

The main function of additives is a more efficient placement, connection of components over the entire surface and volume. This is achieved by reducing the ratio of water and cement, plasticizing, reducing the penetration of moisture into the base. concrete elements And so on. In turn, additives are also used when making a concrete mix in industrial environment and at construction sites.

Roll waterproofing - traditional way protect surfaces from excessive moisture. It is performed with bituminous or polymer-based materials in several layers. A couple of decades ago, the only representative of this species was roofing material - it was laid both on roofs and on foundations. Current manufacturers have significantly expanded the line by adding welded varieties of several modifications.

The main plus of roll waterproofing materials- their versatility. Depending on the type of base, they can be used to protect:

  • foundations (reinforced concrete, prefabricated, stone);
  • walls (brick, concrete);
  • roof structures;
  • waterways;
  • hydraulic structures.

TechnoNikol has the most wide range of roll waterproofing

Classification

The most simple classification separates rolled waterproofing into gluing, built-up and mechanically fixed.

The classification by base is more clear:

  • Cardboard. The cheapest and short-lived variety, which includes "old friends" - glassine, roofing material and rubemast. Organics are subject to decay, which affects the life of the product. After about five years, the coating will have to be changed.
  • Fiberglass and fiberglass. They are distinguished by high strength characteristics, are not afraid of constant contact with water, do not rot. Fiberglass is quite fragile, so when laying rolled waterproofing on such a basis, care must be taken. Fiberglass is more elastic - it can withstand even strong mechanical loads. The only negative is that both varieties of the base exfoliate over time.
  • Polyester. Polyester fiber is resistant to significant deformations and temperature changes. It is used in the manufacture of premium waterproofing.

When installing a roof, it is permissible to combine any rolled bitumen and bitumen-polymer roofing materials. Since the materials of the upper layer are most susceptible to aging, a material with greater durability and a high polymer content is chosen for it.

It is not recommended to combine only rolled bitumen-polymer materials modified with APP and SBS modifiers. They have too different melt viscosities and melt formation temperatures. When fusing materials one on another, the mutual penetration of bitumen-polymer structures will not work. Subsequently, in such roofs, delaminations by gluing may occur when temperature deformations roofing carpet.

The most common mistake when choosing rolled roofing materials is the choice of materials with insufficient breaking characteristics of the base. In these cases, the roof cracks at the slightest deformations that occur in the base (deflections of the prefabricated screed, opening of cracks in the cement-sand screed during cooling).

When installing a two-layer waterproofing perfect match have bases of the same type. The tensile strength of materials with the same bases is almost doubled.

Roll roofing materials based on glass (fiberglass and fiberglass) have a relatively small elongation of 3-4%, while the tensile strength depends only on weight. The dependence of the applied stress on elongation is almost linear. The breaking characteristics of glass substrates in composite roofing mats with fiberglass and fiberglass substrates add up.

The polyester base has the highest elongation up to 60%. The greater the weight, the higher the breaking load. Moreover, in the area of small deformations up to 4%, polyester stretches under slight loads.

When combined in the roofing carpet of the fiberglass base and polyester, the polyester base has practically no effect on the rupture schedule of the roofing carpet. In fact, this means that in such a roofing carpet all the advantages of a polyester base (high elongation to break) are reduced to nothing. But the polyester base is well impregnated with bituminous binder, and the breaking characteristics of fiberglass are more than enough. Therefore, such a combination is made in roofs made of materials and.

In bituminous (on oxidized bitumen with flexibility from 0 to -5 °C) polyester base does not work, since its deformation abilities are higher than the ability of bitumen to stretch at temperatures close to 0 °C. Therefore, rolled bituminous materials (EKP, EKP) must be combined with a material having a fiberglass base.

The combination of material with a polyester base with a material on a fiberglass leads to only a slight change in the appearance of the tear curve in the initial section. The material on the fiberglass does not affect the relative elongation and breaking characteristics of the roofing carpet. In this case, the behavior of the roofing mat depends on the strength of the polyester backing. On new roofs, only the high weight polyester used in can be combined with a fiberglass backing material. When laying roofing mats with materials produced on polyester, as a rule, a similar material with a polyester base is chosen on the bottom layer.

A very common mistake is the use of fiberglass-based roll roofing materials when installing a new roof. In the transverse direction, the force to break the fiberglass does not exceed 17-20 kg per 50 mm strip. For fiberglass, the tensile strength along the web is at least 80 kg per 50 mm strip, and the transverse tensile strength is at least 120 kg per 50 mm strip. Therefore, in order to compensate for the forces that occur during the cooling of the roofing mat and the opening of cracks in the screed, it is necessary to lay at least 5 layers of material with a fiberglass base or combine fiberglass with other bases.

Selection rules
(when installing a new roof)

When installing a new roof in 2 layers, it is unacceptable to use rolled materials only on the basis of fiberglass (HPP + HKP) or a combination of material with a thin polyester base (in Bipol and Bicroelast materials) with material on fiberglass.

Similar problems arise in rolled bituminous materials (Bikrost and Linocrom) produced on a polyester basis. In the roof, they behave in exactly the same way as similar materials made on a fiberglass basis.

In order to avoid gaps in new roof when selecting rolled materials, it is enough to be guided by one of 4 rules:

  • at least one of the rolled materials must be with a fiberglass base;
  • both rolled bitumen-polymer materials (Technoelast,) are made on a polyester basis;
  • fiberglass material can be combined with a polyester-based material only if the material with a high-weight polyester base, for example, Technoelast EKP;
  • for roofs with mechanical fastening only rolled bitumen-polymer materials on cross-reinforced polyester with a nail nail tear strength of at least 260 N or a glass fabric base with breaking loads of at least 800/900 N can be used for the base.

Roof
on the basis of prefabricated screeds

Monolithic base cement-sand mortar is considered to be more reliable compared to prefabricated cement bonded screeds ( cement particle board), ACL (asbestos-cement sheet) and LSU (moisture-resistant glass-magnesium sheet), since when installing screeds from the listed materials, the risk of their deformation when heated, moistened, etc. cannot be ruled out.

In this case, it is permissible to use highly elastic rolled bitumen-polymer materials made on the basis of non-woven polyester fabric (polyester): Uniflex (EPP, EKP), Technoelast (EPP, EKP), Technoelast THERMO (EPP, EKP), Technoelast TITAN, Technoelast DECOR , Technoelast FLAME STOP (EKP), single-layer materials Technoelast SOLO RP1, Technoelast TITAN SOLO or bituminous APP-modified material Ecoflex (EPP, EKP).

It is better to use as the bottom layer of roofing waterproofing, the feature of which is the partial gluing, which allows compensating for the relative instability of the prefabricated base screed, preventing the appearance of cracks in the waterproofing.
