The easiest way to transfer any image to fabric or wood. An easy way to transfer an image to a tree

The work shown in the example was done for a person who is fond of aviation, so the photo for processing was chosen corresponding to his favorite topic. You should choose a photo that suits the content and mood of the person for whom this work is being prepared. Above is an image before and after processing.

Step 1. Materials needed for work

Below is a list of all those necessary materials that have been used. It is not necessary that you will need all of this list in your particular job. You can dream up and replace some materials with others.
Here's what it took to create this work:

  • Printed photo;
  • Wooden plates, same size as photo;
  • Gel Medium (gel based on acrylic paint);
  • Brush for applying the gel on a wooden board;
  • Spatula, or knife, to evenly distribute the image;
  • Wood paint and fabric (optional);
  • Pigment;
  • Sandpaper;
  • Wax for smoothing and compacting the applied photograph;
  • Wax brush;
  • Hanging bracket;
  • Brackets for fastening (since two boards were used).

Step 2. Image search and processing

At the first stage of creating a picture, you have to find, process in a graphic editor and print a photo. Note that the example used color photography, of good quality, and the result is a monochrome picture, made antique. In order for your photo not to come out too noisy in the printed version, the original image must be of high resolution. We do monochrome and the effect of an old photo using a graphic editor, such as Photoshop. At this stage, you completely shape your future picture. How you make it now depends on how it will look when finished.

Step 3. Printing a Photo and Finding a Wood Plate

Having prepared and processed the image, you need to print it. Decide on the size. The example shows the work 20x30 cm, that is, A4 format, and perhaps this is the most best option and in terms of price and size, to do more - it will turn out more expensive and longer, to do less - the work will come out too small.
Finding the right wooden plank is a little more difficult than printing out a photo. It is more likely that for this you will have to bypass several hardware stores. There are more expensive ones, but convenient option- you can make a plate of the desired size and format under the order. But then again, this option can cost you a lot more. And also, you can take two plates and combine them together, as shown in the example.

Step 4. Applying the gel to the wood plate

Let's get straight to work. Applying the gel to wood is the most crucial moment in creating a picture, the final result depends on how well you do it.
Gently apply a small layer of gel to the entire surface of the plank. If you apply too thick a layer, the picture will look ugly, if you apply too thin, it will simply not be fixed, and in some places it will lag behind. Try to make the layer as even as possible over the entire surface. Once the gel has been applied to the board, it's time to transfer the image. I must say, this is the same complex and meticulous process as applying protective film on the phone screen, it requires a lot of concentration and nerves of steel from you. Air bubbles during application will appear in any case, so try to smooth the picture as much as possible and eliminate the bubbles. You can smooth it with a spatula, but be very careful not to scratch the photo. Also, for this purpose, you can take a ruler, or fabric, this option is less "traumatic" for the image.
After you have transferred the image to the plate and got rid of the air bubbles, leave the painting all night and make sure that no one touches it until the next day.

Step 5 Remove the Paper from the Wood

Now you need to get rid of the paper in the picture, so that only the ink from the print remains on the board. To do this, take a cloth and moisten it with ordinary water, then go over all the surfaces of the picture with a damp cloth. This is a rather messy process, so just in case, it's best to do it in old clothes. AT different places, the paper can be removed in different ways, somewhere easier, somewhere more difficult, so it is very possible that you will get tired by the end of the work. Also, be prepared for the fact that at one time you will not be able to remove all the paper, and the process will have to be repeated several more times, with an interval of 20-30 minutes. And another small recommendation - keep a vacuum cleaner handy, because there will be quite a lot of dirt.

Step 6: Finish Transferring the Image

And now the most creative moment of the whole process begins. It is in your hands to make the picture the way you want to make it, for this, turn on your imagination and get ready to work. In our example, the goal was to make the picture aged so that it looked like a rare item. If you want the same effect, go through a series of old photographs, images from the early 20th century, analyze them, and start decorating.
First, apply a spot of paint to the wood and blot it with a rag to remove excess, be careful not to overdo it with paint. When the paint dries, rub it a little with the same rag for a more antique effect.

Now we sand the edges, get rid of the excess gel and continue to give the picture the effect of antiquity. Now we apply pigment along the edges, with the help of the applied pigment, you can create something like a vignetting effect, or you can add pigment only on opposite edges to get a kind of frame. To apply the pigment, you can use a regular sponge, or a porous cloth. A pack of pigment is smaller than a pack of paint, so use it sparingly so you don't run out of pigment when you need it most.

When additional effects With the help of paint and pigment applied, we proceed to the last stage of work in this part. We apply wax to the finished image to give a glossy effect. Use a medium brush to apply a thin, even coat to the print. Just like paint, wax needs to dry well. When the wax dries, go over it with a cloth to smooth the surface and remove excess. In the example, soft wax was used, so the resulting surface is not too shiny, but the surface looks smooth and beautiful.

Step 7: Hang the Picture

When the work is done, the picture is donated, help the owner hang your masterpiece on the most appropriate place. If, as in the example, you used two boards stacked together instead of one solid, then you should first connect them together with two small mounting brackets that can be purchased at any hardware store.

Then, on upper corners Attach the two mounting brackets so that the painting can be hung on the wall. When attaching the brackets to the painting, make sure the screws are shorter than the thickness of the wood plate. I would not really want to spoil all the work done, due to the fact that some little thing was not taken into account.
For a picture more small size you can attach a small board to the back, as it is done on frames. You can not hang such a picture on the wall, but simply put it on a shelf.

In the variety of materials used for decoration, wood occupies a special place. This material is notable for its unique texture, environmental friendliness and natural origin. Wood itself, especially when varnished or otherwise decorated, is very beautiful. However, at the same time, it often becomes the basis for placing certain images. Moreover, the latter can be transferred independently. And there are several ways to do this.

Unlike paper and canvas, a painting on a tree is something new and interesting in our design. Therefore, such paintings will attract attention, and those people who want to make an interior that can surprise can consider this particular option.

In addition, you can decorate the wood that is used directly in the decoration, making the interior familiar to many look completely new. In addition, in this way you can decorate a variety of wooden crafts from boxes to furniture.

Finally, transferring an image onto a wooden surface can be a hobby for children and adults, and for some, a way to earn money. After all, things handmade are actively purchased today.

What needs to be done with the drawing and the tree before transferring

  • Transferring an image to a wood surface, as well as to any other, is in some cases impossible without the effect of mirroring. In the case of an image, this is not so important, however, it is better to initially make letters and numbers mirrored, so that after transfer they will take right kind;
  • Any drawing is best transferred in high resolution. Blurring may appear in the process of work, and if the image resolution was initially low, this can greatly degrade the quality of the final result;
  • The quality of the transfer directly depends on how clean and even the surface will be. Any pollution is unacceptable, as are irregularities. In the latter case, you can use sandpaper;
  • The color of the tree can also play a role in the transfer. It is best to use as light options as possible.

Sublimation paper transfer

A special type of paper that, when heated, can seize with a surface, while wood is a similar surface. Anything can be printed on such paper, and the process of transferring an image with it is as simple as possible.

Ironing paper

It is often used if it is necessary to transfer images to a tree for subsequent tracing with a special soldering iron and thus creating a pattern. Someone draws by hand, but someone prefers this method. However, the method is also suitable for creating final products, but because of its cheapness and simplicity, it is very accessible and popular.

To transfer, you need to print the desired image on a sheet of paper. The sheet itself is laid on a perfectly cleaned and even surface of the tree. In this case, the paper is wetted with a small amount of acetone, which will make the process of transferring the pigment from it to the wood when heated better.

Important! When working with acetone, all precautions should be taken. Remember that the material has a strong odor and actively evaporates. It is best to work in a ventilated area, and you should protect your respiratory organs with a respirator or at least a mask. It is also important to have a fire extinguisher handy and avoid static electricity.

Having stretched the paper soaked in acetone to the desired size, we begin to iron it with a hot iron, and after a while the image will be transferred.

Translation using decoupage film

Decoupage is becoming a very popular hobby, so many people know how to handle a film from it. After printing the desired image on it, also prepare white acrylic paint.

It is necessary to perfectly clean the wood, as well as give it a smooth surface. Next, we apply a pre-slightly thinned paint in two layers. Moreover, the application directions must be perpendicular to each other.

The paint must be allowed to dry. After this has happened, moistened decoupage paper (about 30 seconds soaking in water room temperature) are placed on the surface, removing the base and rubbing with a sponge to ensure a snug fit. After waiting for drying, you can treat the surface with varnish.

Translation using PVA or gel medium

Regardless of the material chosen, the process is about the same. However, in the case of the gel, the application takes place directly on the board, well, the glue is applied to the photograph. The photo itself can be a simple printout on plain paper. If it is important for the image, it is necessary to have a mirrored version in the photo, as subsequently the picture will take the correct form. Next, the procedure is as follows:

  • The wood must be carefully cleaned and perfectly sanded to create flat surface. You can use 120 grit sandpaper;
  • Photo processing with wood glue or gel. In the case of the latter, it is necessary to do everything as carefully as possible, without missing the slightest fragment;
  • The sheet must be glued to the lubricated surface, and then walked over it with a roller for a better fit, the absence of wrinkles and air bubbles. The stage is extremely important, since it depends on how well the drawing will be translated;
  • Leave the product overnight, after which, as soon as the gel is completely dry, wet the sheet and remove it with a sponge for washing dishes. The image is translated quite reliably, and it is not so easy to erase it. However, it is better not to be too zealous. At the same time, in the case of PVA glue, it will be more difficult to erase the paper layer;
  • After all the paper has been removed, make sure that there are no traces of paper left on the surface, as they may interfere with the next step - varnishing. You can use waterproof or clear acrylic lacquer.

How to paint a kitchen board with acrylic paints?

by the most comfortable material to get to know folk art and mastering technique are acrylic paints. They have sufficient density, they can be mixed to achieve a spectacular image. After painting a wooden board with such paints, it is not necessary to varnish the surface, because acrylic creates a strong protective film.

For work you will need:

  • cutting board with a smooth surface;
  • specified paints of the required colors;
  • brushes;
  • stencils for painting.

Choose high-quality artistic acrylic paints that have sufficient density - this is how the drawing will be saturated.

The surface of the board should be flat, if there are protrusions on it - it is recommended to use sandpaper and sand the plane of the tree. After that, the masters recommend impregnating the base with white acrylic so that subsequent sketches lie flat on the board. While the workpiece is drying, it is necessary to transfer the drawing to the tree, how to do this can be found in the last section of this material.

The peculiarity of the products obtained after painting is that they have a bright and rich color. It is necessary to start painting the board with large elements of the picture, gradually moving on to smaller details. To highlight individual details of the image, paint them with a thin brush in black or white.

After painting on wood acrylic paints the product must be thoroughly dried. The next step will be varnishing the board, if further use of the product for its intended purpose is expected. If the finished result will only perform a decorative function, then there is no need to varnish the board - painting with acrylic paints will independently stick to the tree.

Methods for transferring a drawing to a base

Some lovers of wood painting only with experience begin to draw pictures on wood on their own. Beginners cannot afford such an activity, so the question arises, what are the ways to transfer a picture onto a wooden base? You can find out more about them below:

  • Carbon paper. This method is considered the simplest - it requires the presence of an ordinary dark or (in the case of a black base) white carbon paper. The printed sheet is superimposed on a carbon paper, under which a wooden blank is placed. With the help of a pen, the drawing is completely outlined along the contour. As a result, an image is formed on the workpiece, which can be painted. The resulting painted product is neat.

  • Tracing paper. To make the painting have beautiful borders, you can use tracing paper. To do this, it is applied to the prepared drawing and outlined along the contours. Next, the sheet is turned over and generously rubbed with graphite. After that, the tracing paper is applied to the tree and the image is circled with a sharp object. Using this method, it is possible to draw even the most complex patterns.

  • Soap. The method is similar to the previous one, but it is good when the painting templates are transferred to a black surface. It is necessary to repeat the same operations, only rub the tracing paper not with graphite, but with soap.

To hone your skills, experts recommend using different techniques painting on wood. Not bad to draw on the former wooden base under a tray, on a box or other things. The received products can be given as a gift or decorate the house with them.

Nothing brings together and makes spending an evening exciting as creativity, crafts and needlework. Once it was an incentive for progress, invention, knowledge of the world. Yes, just a means of survival. When a man got tired of running after prey with a stick and a stone hammer, he invented a bow and made it with his own hands, now he can hunt from a hiding place, being at a distance. Today, in the 21st century, when everything has already been done and invented for you, there is little space left for creativity and crafts. Handmade has become a hobby, entertainment and pastime.

Handmade or made by hand.

How to transfer the image to a piece of wood and get a lot of pleasure from the process? Your kids will definitely love it! There is an easy way which I will explain. We will need:

Preparation, components and tools.

A piece of board, plywood or any wooden surface. This is the foundation. Sandpaper or, in my case, an abrasive sponge (grit 100+) for finishing the surface to which we will transfer. Brush, wallpaper roller, if available, but you can do without it, sharp knife, the picture itself or a photograph printed on a normal laser printer. If this is a portrait, or the correct perspective is important, we mirror it in any graphic editor. You can use picmonkey or ordinary PaintPrint, choose best quality print. And the main ingredient of our venture Photo transfer potch you can choose any company, I chose this one, due to the availability in the nearest store (245 rubles) and acrylic varnish (140 rubles) to your taste, glossy or matte.Transfer⋅ this is a certain composition that sticks to the surface thin layer paper, forming a protection and makes this layer transparent, which we then protect with varnish.

Cropping the image the right size. Try to touch the drawing less with your hands so as not to leave fatty prints. I took a portrait of Mikhail Afanasyevich Bulgakov, mirrored it in the editor and printed it out on a conventional laser printer. Plywood carefully sanded, cleaned of dust.

We apply a transfer, not a lot and not a little, so that the layer is uniform.

Smooth and press, try to avoid bubbles. Carefully, trying not to move, glue the image down and try not to move. If there is a roller, we roll it. I put in a piece of plastic and smoothed it out. We wait until it dries, we recommend 12-24 hours. If you can't wait, dry it with a hair dryer. Then the magic begins!

We pour water over it and let the paper get wet, there is no need to be afraid, the main thing is not to rush and wait until the picture appears.

calmly and better with hands, they just feel the surface and tell you how to act. We remove upper layer paper until the image appears, it seems to be imprinted on the tree, but still care does not hurt, try not to damage the image layer.

That's ready-made version left to dry and varnish. if after drying a layer of paper remains and the picture is whitish, then the procedure can be repeated. Perfect condition will not, but after varnishing, clarity will appear and thereby save the work from the effects of the external environment.
