Folk recipes for getting rid of mosquitoes, biting flies and midges

Why are folk methods of pest control in demand?

At the same time, the people continue to use the ancient recipes that the ancestors used to protect themselves from bloodsuckers. There are several reasons why this is happening.

    Health safety.

    Industrial insecticides contain toxic substances in their composition, due to which efficiency is achieved. At the same time, these chemical compounds are also toxic to humans: these products must be used strictly in accordance with the instructions for use. And still it does not give a full guarantee. The body of each person is individual, and coupled with insufficient care, poisoning and various complications are possible, which may require urgent hospitalization. In some cases (especially for children and people with poor health), this can be fatal.

    At the same time, folk methods are based on the use of handy natural remedies containing no synthetic poisons.

    Profitability.

    Many industrial drugs are not cheap: high efficiency often means a considerable cost. In many cases, it is necessary to periodically purchase expendable materials, which also increases the final price.

    Folk recipes use ingredients that are mostly inexpensive, you can often find them in your home, among food supplies. All this makes total costs lower than synthetic chemicals.

    To drive away annoying buzzing bloodsuckers, special odorous substances will help, the aromas of which interfere with insects: they are unable to find a victim and determine their location. As a result, the instinct of self-preservation makes them leave an uncomfortable place and keep their distance, leaving people alone.

    Essential oils and herbs

    These are concentrated extracts and plants that emit odors that irritate small pests.

    1. Essential oils include products from:

      • cloves;
      • valerian;
      • cedar;
      • lavender;
      • rosemary;
      • thyme;
      • eucalyptus;
      • citronella.
    2. The following species are distinguished from plants:

      • basil;
      • geranium;
      • juniper;
      • mint.

      Attention! The garden around a private house can be planted with these plants - this will be an excellent barrier against pests. In the apartment at the windows you can put houseplants(for example, geranium) - they will successfully scare away.

    You can also place tampons or napkins soaked in ether in the rooms, and when going outside, apply them liberally to exposed skin and clothes. You can use one ingredient or several.

    It must be remembered that odors:

    • quickly disappear: protective fragrances have to be renewed, on average, every 2 hours;
    • at too high concentrations become allergens, can cause headache cough, skin rash, etc.

    To make the effect last longer, you can drip essential oil into the cream ( any will do, including simple children's), and smear the skin with this mixture.

    Flowers can be used to make decoctions.

      Clove.

      Pour one packet of powder of this flower (5 g) into a glass of water and put on fire. Boil for about 20-30 minutes until a thicker broth appears. It should be mixed with an inexpensive cologne in the ratio: 1 part decoction to 2 parts cologne. Apply the resulting mixture to the skin - it protects well from insects for 100-120 minutes.

      Wormwood.

      A simple herb recipe that can be harvested from the street. Pour 1 large bunch of wormwood with one and a half liters of water. Boil 10-15 minutes; after the mixture settles and cools down, it must be poured through a sieve into another container and periodically rinse your face and exposed skin in the evening. The smell of wormwood is not liked by mosquitoes, it protects against them, in addition, this decoction is good for the skin.

      Attention! Even small children can be safely smeared with a mixture of wormwood and water.

      Three-component.

      In a glass of water, mix 1 tbsp each of mint, lavender and cloves. Boil for 10 minutes, close the lid and leave to cool. Strain through a sieve, mix with a glass of vodka. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle and spray where necessary.

    Another way to use oils and decoctions is to pour them into a fumigator vessel. We are talking about those that evaporate liquid repellents. You can pour a folk remedy into an empty container and plug it into the network. The result will be no worse than from chemicals, plus a pleasant aroma in the room.

    Vanilla

    This option is well suited for children: in the absence of an allergy to vanillin, this is one of the safest natural-type repellents.

    Attention! The sweet smell may attract bees or wasps, so be careful.

    However, mosquitoes are most active after sunset, by which time the bees are already in their hive.

      water and vanillin

      Dilute 2-3 standard bags of this spice in 500 ml of warm water. Mix thoroughly and pour into a spray bottle. Spray onto exposed skin and surrounding area as needed.

      Vanillin and vegetable oil (any type)

      Mix 2-3 sachets of spices with 150 ml of oil. Shake until the crystals of the substance dissolve. It is recommended to apply in the absence of sunlight, as the mixture applied to the skin contributes to the appearance of a tan.

      Vanillin and cream

      This is the most best option for children and adults. Squeeze out the baby cream from the tube, mix it with 2-3 sachets of vanillin, transfer the resulting mixture into a small plastic jar. Smear in the evening during the activation of bloodsuckers, you can take it with you to nature.

      Another option for a protective vanilla mixture: use petroleum jelly instead of cream. To do this, mix 1-2 sachets with a jar of this substance. When applied creates protective layer that lasts a long time.

    Other recipes for mosquitoes

    For many centuries of forced "cohabitation" with these pests, people have come up with many options for protection, homemade repellents. Several effective remedies will be described below:

      The following infusion is one of the most effective folk remedies for buzzing bloodsuckers.

      • chopped garlic - 5 cloves;
      • 2 tablespoons of herbs: lavender, mint, rosemary, thyme, sage;
      • 1 liter of vinegar.

      Mix these ingredients in a container with a lid. Insist in a dark place for 21 days, stirring daily. When the infusion is ready, filter it and spray it into the surrounding area where mosquitoes fly. Before spraying, dilute with water in a ratio of 1:2. Keep refrigerated.

      Wheatgrass roots help to effectively get rid of arthropods. To do this, you need to make a decoction of 100-150 grams of plant rhizomes and 1.5 liters of water. Boil over low heat until the mixture turns a light yellow color. Application options:

      • spraying with a spray gun;
      • pour a small amount of in an open container (saucer) and put under the windows and in other places;
      • apply to open skin;
      • evaporate with a fumigator.
    1. Bird cherry or rowan leaves create good protection from mosquitoes. To do this, they need to be finely chopped and rub the skin well with the juices that stand out from them.
    2. Soybean oil is no worse at getting rid of bloodsuckers than synthetic insecticides. It can be used directly or mixed with essential oils.

    How to get rid of flies in folk ways

    The two main types of insects that create problems for people are ordinary house flies (they spread unsanitary conditions, pathogenic microbes), and autumn stingers, which bite painfully. If the former are synanthropic, that is, they live only in the vicinity of a person, then zhigals live in the wild.

    Insofar as housefly can breed in human habitation, the first step in getting rid of these pests is to detect and eliminate potential and actual places for the development of their larvae. They need a breeding ground: dirt and debris, therefore, before spraying any fragrances, it makes sense to do a good cleaning in the house, in particular in the kitchen, take out the trash, eliminate pipe leaks, wipe the sink dry after use and make it a rule to maintain constant cleanliness in home.

    Of course, housing and communal services are obliged to clean it, but residents are advised to tightly tie garbage bags.

    Speaking of burners, they are more common in nature, in countryside, fly into a person's home closer to autumn, the onset of cold weather.

    Folk remedies that repel all kinds of flies, there are a lot:

    • various odorous substances;
    • plants;
    • traps;
    • mechanical method - the use of a fly swatter.

    1. Essential oils of plants:

      • geranium;
      • lavender;
      • lemongrass;
      • peppermint;
      • citronella;
      • eucalyptus.

      They must be used in the same way as described in the section on mosquitoes.

      Smells of other substances.

      Homemade poison for pests is easy to prepare: mix in 500 ml of water, 1 tsp of sugar and 0.5 tsp of chlorophos. Pour this solution into saucers, which are placed at the windows, in the kitchen and in other rooms.

      Attention! Pets should not be allowed to drink this poison: even a small portion of chlorophos is toxic.

Plants

They again spread odors unacceptable to these creatures. Depending on the specific plant, you can use the dried parts, plant in the apartment or around the house.

  1. Geraniums and castor beans are excellent live fly repellents that can be planted in pots. An excellent option for protecting the apartment.
  2. Eucalyptus and myrtle tree also provide excellent barriers to harmful insects. It is possible to grow them at home - in such places the flies will stop appearing.
  3. Arthropods do not tolerate clove aroma. It can be used in dried form, there are several options for use:

    • put a plate with 10-12 cloves in the kitchen;
    • cut the lemon in half, insert 2-3 cloves into the halves. This is an excellent fragrance repellant;

    • tomato. Perfect for owners of private houses with vegetable gardens: you should use the stems and leaves of a tomato.
  1. Boil hazelnut roots over low heat for 15 minutes.
  2. Mix 100-150 ml of broth with vinegar (proportion 1: 1), add 30-60 drops of eucalyptus oil (essential) to the mixture.

This is an excellent repellant for personal protection: they need to be smeared on exposed skin.

Homemade traps

A simple and very effective fly trap:

  • prepare a solution of sweet water: mix sugar with water. You can add a little honey or jam;
  • cut off the top cone plastic bottle, pour an aqueous solution into the bottom;
  • insert the top of the bottle with the neck down into the other part filled with the sweet mixture.

Attention! There must be a distance between the neck and the surface of the water so that the flies can get inside.

From there they will not be able to fly and will die.

  1. You can make your own sticky trap. To do this, you need to make a concentrated sugar solution. For example, add 50 grams of sugar to 100 ml of thick fruit syrup. This mixture must be impregnated with strips of cardboard (pre-cut). Such homemade tapes hang in places where arthropods appear, they will sit down and stick. It should be warned that this method is more troublesome: since this solution will not be able to reliably hold pests, it is recommended that stuck individuals be removed manually.

Folk recipes against midges

Many of the methods described above also work against midges: they are the same insects and also orient themselves in space by smell. But there are several unique ways that will allow you to rid yourself of these harmful animals.

As it is clear from the article, for many centuries of neighborhood with midges, people have come up with their own ways to destroy and scare them away. Therefore, for those who are afraid to use synthetic insecticides, there is an opportunity to protect themselves. This article lists the most famous folk remedies against harmful insects that will help make your life easier during midge activity.

We will also consider what works effectively when working in the forest, outdoor recreation and to protect housing from mosquitoes.

In summer, the number of blood-sucking insects, including mosquitoes, midges and gadflies, increases exponentially, and the most relevant question is what kind of mosquito repellent at home will provide you with no nasty buzzing in the bedroom, red spots on the body from bites, bruises under the eyes from lack of sleep due to night hunting for this vampire.

I will say right away - I do not like any chemical sprays (mosquito repellants), electrical repellent devices with high squeak vibrations, spirals and other excesses of civilization. I am for natural and healthy ways to control mosquitoes. Let's consider them, and the most effective ones - we will make ourselves happy, mosquitoes - to death.

Since I spent about 13 years (in the spring-summer-autumn season) on expeditions, I know what mosquitoes are and, especially (!) - midges - not from books, but from my own experienced experience.

And yesterday I had to use it at night, as it repelled the attack of blood-sucking insects that flew into the light to visit. But ... the mosquitoes were not lucky - I quickly prepared a plate with liquid and an unloved aroma for them, and they flew out of the room.

Let's talk about safe protection from mosquitoes. I will share my personal experience. And first, I offer some facts about mosquitoes.

How does a mosquito bite happen?

There are two different mosquito bites - he (male) and she (female). He (the male) - all of himself white and fluffy, not being a vampire, drinks the nectar of flowers, and she (the female) - all of himself itchy and thirsty for blood - drinks the blood of animals and humans.

Gif" alt="(!LANG:komar1" width="500" height="344" data-recalc-dims="1">!}

Why and for what female mosquitoes suck blood

The female needs nutrients from blood in order to lay eggs. After all, the blood contains everything necessary for the formation of mosquito eggs. A hungry individual will lay a few eggs - from 1 to 10. And having sucked on the blood of animals, especially rats (human blood is less suitable, but without fish and cancer - fish), the female mosquito has an abundance of building material (amino acids), and can lay up to 100 eggs.

Why does a mosquito make a squeak when flying? The sound is obtained from the vibration of the wings and it informs the opposite sex about the presence of the female.

The mechanism of a mosquito bite, how a blood vessel is searched

The mosquito with its elongated processes of the proboscis, touching the skin, is looking for a blood vessel. He first makes reconnaissance with his proboscis to change the heat of the skin surface - the capillaries have more high temperature and this is reflected in the temperature of the skin when the vessels come under it. The mosquito with its proboscis gently touches the skin, feels this difference in temperature and thus finds a capillary into which it can pierce. The length of the proboscis of the female mosquito is 4-4.3 mm.

Jpg" alt="(!LANG:Mosquito bite mechanism" width="500" height="442" srcset="" data-srcset="https://i1.wp..jpg?w=500&ssl=1 500w, https://i1.wp..jpg?resize=300%2C265&ssl=1 300w" sizes="(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px" data-recalc-dims="1">!}

After landing on the skin, the mosquito wets it with saliva, which acts as an anesthetic and prevents the mosquito from being detected. It is saliva that causes irritation and itching after the mosquito has flown away. It is also the cause of insect allergy in especially sensitive people and children.

After anesthesia, the jaws protrude from the mouth of the insect, with which it pierces the skin and is inserted into the hole of the proboscis-sting. From this moment, the search for the capillary wall begins. Having pierced the capillary, the insect injects a thrombolytic substance that thins the blood, preventing it from clotting, and begins its meal. A bloodsucker can drink 3-4 times more blood for its weight.

The female lays her eggs near the water, since the hatched larvae live only in the water. Therefore, there are so many mosquitoes near swamps and rivers, especially when there is no wind.

How dangerous is a mosquito bite

Through a bite, a mosquito can infect animals and humans with various diseases. Since the mosquito has been living on the planet for 100 million years, many viruses have learned to use its ability to drink blood to carry such diseases:

  • malaria
  • yellow fever
  • West Nile virus
  • dengue virus

Statistics speak of millions of human deaths around the world due to infection with viruses through a mosquito bite. Cats, dogs, horses also die through infection with mosquitoes.

The only way out is to learn how to defend against them.

Effective mosquito repellent at home, at work or outdoors

There are absolutely different ways protection against mosquitoes and midges in three different situations:

  1. you went work for nature(garden, logging, hunting, survey of natural areas)
  2. you went relax in nature(dacha, fishing, picking berries, mushrooms, medicinal plants)
  3. You are at in your apartment or at home

Why do these cases require different degrees of protection?

Because, depending on the above situations, there is a varying degree of sweating, exhalation carbon dioxide and warming up the body.

And mosquitoes and midges are guided by these factors in search of a victim for sucking blood. Moreover, not only people, but also animals suffer from them.

Protection from mosquitoes when working outdoors, in the forest, taiga

Birch tar spray. If you have arrived work in the forest (taiga), then the only effective and reliable means from a mosquito and midges - this is to make a spray of birch tar yourself and, also, dress in a certain way - thin, but dense cotton clothes with Velcro around the wrists and ankles (a fabric similar to a windbreaker, and even better - a membrane fabric). No repellents like Deta will help - while working, you sweat, and the applied layer will be washed off later. And sweat is a favorite bait for bloodsuckers, they flock to this smell in a swarm.

There is a certain feature - we dilute the tar with alcohol and pour it into the sprayer. But we do not apply it on the skin (the smell of tar lingers on the skin for a very long time - no bath will wash it off!), But on the cuffs of jackets, the hood and berets or the bottom of the trousers.

The mosquito does not tolerate the smell of tar. You can buy it at a pharmacy (dilute in proportion by half) or boil it yourself from birch bark (this thick tar and you need a little of it - in the proportion of 2 parts of tar to 3 parts of alcohol (you can in principle in half). nothing in the taiga affects the midge at all, except for tar. Again - we smear not ourselves, but clothes.

Tar is also used to protect against bloodsucking in a house, hut or tent. For this, as a base, an ordinary dry pine cone is suitable. we spray it from the spray with tar on alcohol. The alcohol is weathered, and the tar (resin) remains on the cone. Please note that mosquitoes and midges do not die from tar, but they cannot stand it and immediately fly away from this smell.

The tar cone is well dried and set on fire in the room - it smolders for a long time, just like a spiral. It is enough to attach one such smoking cone in a tent and all the mosquitoes and midges that have flown during the day will quickly run away from the smoke and smell of tar. You can sleep peacefully.

If the tent or hut is of a blowing type, there are holes in the roof, then it is necessary to heat a stone on a fire, bring it into the dwelling and put a bump soaked in tar on it. the effect of a fumigator tablet is obtained - the cone smolders very slowly all night (almost imperceptibly), tar is released into the air and all bloodsuckers will not penetrate into the rooming house.

Strawberries against mosquitoes. There is also an old grandfather's method - to spread the exposed parts of the body with crushed strawberries.

pine needles. Mosquitoes run away from dry pine needles if they are set on fire in a jar and placed in a tent.

So, when working in the forest, it is better not to use chemicals. The most effective protection from midges and mosquitoes:

  • homemade tar spray
  • thick cotton clothing
  • smoke from burning dry pine needles
  • smear the face and hands with strawberries

Protection against mosquito bites when outdoors and walking on the street

Data-lazy-type="image" data-src="https://prozdorovechko.ru/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/mosquito-monument.jpg" alt="(!LANG:Protection against mosquito bites when outdoor recreation" width="300" height="367" srcset="" data-srcset="https://i1.wp..jpg?w=300&ssl=1 300w, https://i1.wp..jpg?resize=245%2C300&ssl=1 245w" sizes="(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" data-recalc-dims="1">!} If you decide to relax in the forest. fry a barbecue, the whole family went to the river with an overnight stay or decided to pick berries and mushrooms - mosquitoes and midges from the first steps will greet you with their “kisses”, having bitten all available places. Even a simple walk in the summer on a city street in the evening is also desirable with the use of mosquito repellents.

How to securely protect yourself? Since you do not have hard physical work, you will sweat less and breathe more calmly. And the means of protection will be simpler, not as smelly as birch tar.

I especially like one fast way protection against mosquito bites, which allows it to be used when a sudden and spontaneous trip to nature for recreation. This method of protection can always be used outdoors, without preparing anything at home.

1. Formic acid. We're talking about formic acid. Bloodsuckers do not like any sour smells - and the smell of formic acid is very vigorous! How do they soak clothes? Remove the T-shirt and put it in the anthill, turning it over from time to time. All you need for this method is to find an anthill.

Gradually, the ants will soak the clothes thrown to them with formic acid, it becomes wet literally before our eyes. After impregnation, carefully shake off all the hard workers over the anthill and wipe all open areas of the skin with a T-shirt or other thing - arms, legs, face. Then, without breathing, we put on a T-shirt on the body. Now no bloodsucker will bite.

Watch a video on the topic of impregnating a T-shirt with ants:

As the author of the video says, such protection is enough until the evening. At night, it is desirable to repeat the procedure.

2. Spray or cream with vanilla. If you decide to just take a walk on the street for an hour in the evening, you can prepare yourself a vanillin spray or cream with vanillin. Its action is short- after one hour, it is necessary to repeat the treatment of the body or clothing.

There is little nuance- do not confuse the bags:

  • vanillin
  • vanilla sugar

To prepare mosquito repellent only vanillin is suitable. Reading reviews on the Internet on the use of vanillin, I realized why they are negative - almost everyone added only 1 sachet of vanillin to 1 liter of water, and correctly - 2, or better - 3 sachets of vanillin for such a volume of water. Dissolve and pour into a spray bottle - it's so convenient to spray and carry the product with you.

If it is necessary to protect the delicate skin of a child from bites while walking on the street or during sleep, we make a vanillin cream based on a baby cream, adding 1 teaspoon without a top of vanillin to 1 tablespoon of cream. Stir, wait a little for the cream to be saturated with the smell of vanillin and apply to the skin. The tool is absolutely harmless, it can be recommended to pregnant women. Instead of baby cream, you can also use petroleum jelly or any cream by mixing it with a pack of vanillin.

It is believed that this remedy has more effect on midges than on mosquitoes.

You can try making your own simple mosquito repellent and see how it will protect you during a one-hour evening walk.

3. A mixture of vinegar (9%) + sunflower oil + shampoo (any). The recipe for mosquito repellent is very simple and easy to prepare at home. It is necessary to take 50 ml of each ingredient and mix well. The mixture will acquire White color. When using vinegar, remember - this is not vinegar essence, but a weak 9% solution. The vinegar mixture is applied to exposed areas of the skin. Mosquitoes swirl around you, but do not sit down - do not like the smell of vinegar. This magical remedy for mosquitoes in the country is very suitable.

If there is no oil and shampoo at hand, then dilute vinegar and water in half, pour into a spray and spray on the body and clothes. You can simply moisten, pouring the liquid into the palm of your hand, all open areas of the skin. The smell of vinegar quickly disappears, and we stop noticing it, but for mosquitoes it remains quite strong and repellent. This tool is considered more effective than vanillin. Remember - mosquitoes don't die from it, they just don't land on your skin and bite you.

So, at outdoor recreation and a walk along the evening street The most effective protection against midges and mosquitoes:

  • formic acid from an anthill (soaking a T-shirt with ants)
  • spray or cream with vanillin - lasts one hour, suitable for children and pregnant women
  • a mixture of vinegar (9%) + sunflower oil + shampoo - easy to prepare yourself, lasts a long time

Folk remedies for mosquitoes for a residential building

Folk recipes for use in a residential building are very diverse. They can be divided into groups:

  • essential oils
  • medicinal and ornamental plants
  • spices

Consider how to use the recipes of each group in the fight against mosquitoes and midges that have flown into the room.

Of course, it is best to protect your home with mosquito nets, but not everyone has them on the windows. Therefore, we will be saved from bloodsuckers in other ways.

Essential oils

Since the proboscis of the mosquito reacts to the smell of sweat, any essential oils will interfere with hearing it, and the mosquito will fly away from such a place. The most commonly used essential oils against mosquitoes are:

  • eucalyptus
  • carnations
  • thyme
  • lemon
  • tea tree
  • lavender
  • lemon balm

You can make a spray out of them by dropping it on water, you can moisten a woolen cloth with a few drops and spread it on the windowsills or at the head, fill the aroma lamp or drop it into the burner.

Insects do not tolerate the scent of some plants. Of these, you can prepare decoctions and spray air and body, hang fresh or dry bunches at the entrance to the apartment. They can also be grown in the front garden, which will make it possible to calmly spend the evening near them, without fear of mosquito bites.

1. Decoction of wheatgrass roots- 100 grams of crushed roots per 1 liter of water, boil until the roots become soft, separate the broth by pouring it into a dark jar. For a better effect, you can add a few drops of essential oil or a tablespoon of valerian tincture.

We smear ourselves and enjoy life - a mosquito cannot land on the skin and bite - we don’t like the smell.

2. Wormwood. A plant with a pungent odor. You can hang bunches of fresh specimens near the bed, make a decoction of wormwood roots (spray or pour into saucers, wash them), grind (grind) the leaves and spread them on the windowsill - all these methods are suitable for repelling mosquitoes.
.jpg" alt="(!LANG:Plants that repel mosquitoes" width="500" height="500" srcset="" data-srcset="https://i1.wp..jpg?w=600&ssl=1 600w, https://i1.wp..jpg?resize=150%2C150&ssl=1 150w, https://i1.wp..jpg?resize=300%2C300&ssl=1 300w" sizes="(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px" data-recalc-dims="1">!}
My friends just made bouquets and put them under the bed (changed once a week). You can make an oil-balm based on any cream by adding a decoction (1: 1) and smear it on exposed skin.

3. Chamomile. There are several names: feverfew, this also includes Dalmatian (Caucasian, Persian) chamomile, which contain a poison that is dangerous for insects - pyrethrin. For warm-blooded animals, this poison is not dangerous. Therefore, repellents are made on the basis of chamomile powder - the poison causes paralysis of nerve endings and the mosquito cannot drink blood.
.jpg" alt="(!LANG: Chamomile feverfew as a mosquito repellent" width="500" height="456" srcset="" data-srcset="https://i0.wp..jpg?w=500&ssl=1 500w, https://i0.wp..jpg?resize=300%2C274&ssl=1 300w" sizes="(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px" data-recalc-dims="1">!}

Before use, pyrethrum flowers must be dried, crushed, and a powder with a sharp and specific odor is obtained. It is effectively used against insects: mosquitoes, midges, against fleas in animals, for the destruction of bedbugs in an apartment. For use, 50 grams of pyrethrum powder is enough. You can add to any cream and apply to the skin, or make a spray and treat all surfaces in the apartment. For especially lazy people, we make bouquets of daisies in rooms.

4. Ageratum. A beautiful small shrub with its smell causes a developmental delay in mosquitoes (can you imagine - an imbecile mosquito ?!) and the inability to reproduce - I already love this plant! But it is very decorative, you can keep it on the windowsill, you can - in the flower bed.
.jpg" alt="(!LANG:Ageratum from mosquitoes" width="500" height="313" srcset="" data-srcset="https://i1.wp..jpg?w=668&ssl=1 668w, https://i1.wp..jpg?resize=300%2C188&ssl=1 300w" sizes="(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px" data-recalc-dims="1">!}

5. Thyme or thyme. The plant loves the sun and the more sunlight falls on it, the stronger its smell, which is completely disliked by insects - mosquitoes and midges. I really love its tart aroma and often rub it between my palms when I am in places where it grows (sunny hillsides) - not a single mosquito dared to sit on me. Also suitable for growing on a window or front garden.

Jpg" alt="(!LANG:Mosquito repellant thyme" width="500" height="375" srcset="" data-srcset="https://i1.wp..jpg?w=700&ssl=1 700w, https://i1.wp..jpg?resize=300%2C225&ssl=1 300w" sizes="(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px" data-recalc-dims="1">!}

6. Calendula. Possessing a specific aroma, this plant also repels bloodsuckers. You don’t even need to grind it - just plant it under the windows, and the breath of the wind will spread its smell and mosquitoes will leave this part of the garden. If you put a bouquet at home - the action is similar.

7. Mint. In order to use as a repellent, rub it between the palms and lubricate exposed skin. And by crushing the leaves and adding their juice to baby cream, you can make a mint mosquito balm. Valid from 1 to 3 hours.

8. Lemon melissa- Insects, including mosquitoes, cannot stand the strong smell of a flowering plant. You can just plant it in a pot on the balcony - and all evenings mosquitoes will look at you only from afar. The smell of cut lemon balm quickly disappears - so we grow it in the front garden, on the balcony or in a pot on the window. It is enough just to be present in the apartment of Melissa, without rubbing and not making lotions, so that the night passes without mosquito squeaks in the bedroom. But - strong aroma appears only during flowering. Before him and after him, he is barely audible.
.jpg" alt="(!LANG:Melisa as mosquito repellent" width="500" height="375" srcset="" data-srcset="https://i1.wp..jpg?w=700&ssl=1 700w, https://i1.wp..jpg?resize=300%2C225&ssl=1 300w" sizes="(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px" data-recalc-dims="1">!}

9. Catnip or catnip
. It is often confused with lemon balm, as they are very similar. The essential oil nepetalactone, which gives catnip its distinctive aroma, is 10 times stronger than diethyltoluamide, which is used in industrial insect repellents. Knead the leaves with your hands and rub them with juice.

What plants do you use to control mosquitoes? Share your method in the comments.

Spices

1. Garlic. Of the most common flavor enhancers, garlic works flawlessly on mosquitoes (and I understand them!). They offer to crush the garlic and spread it around the apartment. Especially courageous - to rub it (interestingly, how will you get rid of its aroma later?). And not a single mosquito (and not only a mosquito) will fit a cannon shot!

Jpg" alt="(!LANG:Garlic against mosquitoes" width="500" height="349" srcset="" data-srcset="https://i0.wp..jpg?w=700&ssl=1 700w, https://i0.wp..jpg?resize=300%2C209&ssl=1 300w" sizes="(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px" data-recalc-dims="1">!}

But seriously, eat two cloves of garlic every day, essential oils will come out with sweat and repel mosquitoes.

2. Basil. This is not only a good seasoning, but also an unobtrusive repellent. Just put a pot of this herb next to you. After a bite, attach a leaf and it relieves itching and swelling.
.jpg" alt="(!LANG: basil as a mosquito repellent" width="500" height="335" srcset="" data-srcset="https://i1.wp..jpg?w=700&ssl=1 700w, https://i1.wp..jpg?resize=300%2C201&ssl=1 300w" sizes="(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px" data-recalc-dims="1">!}

3. Rosemary. The best remedy from mosquitoes. With any movement of air exudes a wonderful aroma and repels mosquitoes. If the leaf is rubbed and applied, it removes all the discomfort after the bite.

4. Carnation. My favorite remedy. We take a lemon, cut it into circles and insert 15-20 pieces of cloves from a bag of seasonings into each. We lay out the workpiece on a tray or plate, put it in the bedroom and forget that mosquitoes bite - they will leave the room.

My personal experience

During the work on the expedition, everything was checked - mosquitoes adored me with passion and adore to this day! And in the heat, when a hail of sweat rolls - a whole swarm stuck around me. I could not use any synthetic repellents - I was allergic to them worse than mosquitoes!
.jpg" alt="(!LANG:my personal experience in the fight against mosquitoes" width="500" height="572" srcset="" data-srcset="https://i1.wp..jpg?w=600&ssl=1 600w, https://i1.wp. .jpg?resize=262%2C300&ssl=1 262w" sizes="(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px" data-recalc-dims="1">
But I found a solution and have been using it for several decades. I will tell you about some of my methods against mosquitoes.

1. The fastest and easiest mosquito repellent- vinegar water. Dilute 9% vinegar with water (1 serving of vinegar + 2 servings of water), and smear all over yourself - not just the exposed parts. By the way, it is very useful for the skin, maintains an acidic pH.

You can use trial and error to find the optimal concentration for yourself, as some are diluted in a 1: 1 ratio. If the skin is dry, add a few drops of any vegetable oil. But it is better without it - then the pores do not clog and you sweat normally, which is necessary for the thermoregulation of the body.

Which, moreover, improves sleep, this is my know-how:

pour ordinary water into a flat small plate (I take a dessert one), pour out half a bag of cloves and add a teaspoon alcohol tincture valerian (pharmacy). The scarecrow for mosquitoes is ready!
.jpg" alt="(!LANG:The most effective mosquito repellent in the bedroom" width="500" height="398" srcset="" data-srcset="https://i2.wp..jpg?w=500&ssl=1 500w, https://i2.wp..jpg?resize=300%2C239&ssl=1 300w" sizes="(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px" data-recalc-dims="1">!}
I put a plate on the bedside table at the head - and I can directly hear the indignation of hungry mosquitoes!
Mosquitoes fly a little - about 5 minutes and disappear somewhere. Sleep is strong and calm - even in winter, when there are no mosquitoes, you can do such an “inhalation” for yourself ...

A small nuance - as it evaporates, add water and add valerian anew every day - it disappears in a day.

Also remember about personal hygiene - the less the smell of sweat, the more indifferent to you mosquitoes.

Remedy for mosquito bites at home

If the mosquito has already drunk blood, injecting saliva and anticoagulant, then redness will appear at the bite site and a slight swelling will form, which begins to itch.

What to do to relieve irritation and not introduce an infection?

Describing herbs that repel mosquitoes, I wrote which of them can be applied to the bite site.

Is there some more simple ways relieve itching at the site of the bite:

  1. wipe with plain soap
  2. make a slurry of soda and water and put on the bite
  3. moisten a swab apple cider vinegar and apply to relieve itching
  4. cut the onion in half and place the cut on the swelling
  5. stretch the plantain and wipe the wound, you can fix it with adhesive tape
  6. cut an aloe leaf and anoint the bite with the cut
  7. anoint with natural milk diluted with water - enzymes contained in milk neutralize insect venom and heal swelling

There are a sea of other ways, up to the one used in childhood - to spread with toothpaste or saliva.

If you are afraid of an infection, we take a weak solution of iodine or potassium permanganate and treat the bite.
