To make candle decor, you need to prepare tools and materials. At the first stage, it is important to clearly follow all the recommendations in order to fill the candles correctly later.

  • The basis. One of the cheapest materials for candle mass is soy wax. He has natural basis which is made from soybean oil. It is easy to work with such wax and clean molds from it.
  • In addition to soy-based wax, beeswax is used, which is known for its medicinal properties. But such a wax has high cost. An analogue of natural components is paraffin - cheap, but made from petroleum products. Transparent candles have a gel base.
  • The form. It is convenient to use as a case for candles if it is glass surface. Through it, the structure of the candle is visible. Metal, silicone and plastic molds are also used for candle making.
  • Wick. A thin cord or floss thread is often used for it. Pre-soak it with melted wax, then install it in a metal holder.
  • Flavorings and dyes. The dye gives the color to the wax. Instead, you can add oil paints. Essential oils will add aroma to the candle. Use your favorite oil or a mixture of both.
  • Instruments. In addition to materials for making candles, prepare the following tools. Scales for determining the mass of a solid base, a knife and a grater, measuring cups and a container, a wooden spatula, a thermometer. Take extra paper towels and oven mitts as the wax will be hot.

How to make a candle - the progress of work

  • If you do not have special molds for casting candles, then cups from the old tea set or even empty jars. Rinse blanks before use warm water. Or plunge into boiling water.

  • Wipe well with paper towels. Wax must be poured into a completely dry container, otherwise it may bounce.

  • To determine the volume of the required mass of wax, resort to a little trick. Pour water into the mold to the desired level.

  • Then pour the liquid into a measuring cup. So you will know the exact mass for making candles.

  • Weigh the water without taking into account the container. Grind the wax on a grater or with a knife. Try to make equal pieces so that they melt evenly. In a separate bowl, transfer the wax equal to twice the weight of the liquid.

  • Wax must be melted in a water bath. Fill a large saucepan with water up to halfway. Put on fire. Transfer the wax mixture to a pitcher or other container with a handle. When the water boils, lower the dishes into the pan.

  • Stir frequently until wax is completely melted. So the mass will have a uniform consistency.

  • If the wax outwardly began to resemble olive oil then it melted completely. Remove the container from the fire.

  • The hot mixture should not be immediately poured into the mold. Before adding other components, it is necessary to reduce its temperature to 60 degrees.

  • While the wax mass is cooling, install the wick. Fix its base with hot glue at the bottom of the mold. So during the hardening of the wax, it will not move.

  • It is also important to fix the wick in the central part of the workpiece. This can be done with a piece of satin ribbon. Fold the ribbon in half and cut along the fold line.

  • Pass the wick through the hole in the ribbon. Additionally, fix its edges with tape.

  • Add essential oils to the cooled wax. The optimal ratio of aroma to candle weight: 1 drop of extract per 400 g of wax.

  • Mix the warm wax well. This will distribute the flavor evenly throughout the mixture. Instead of aromatic oils, use spices or coffee beans. You can add dyes if you wish.

  • Pour the liquid wax into the mold in a thin stream. Try to do this slowly and avoid getting the mixture on the wick and ribbon. This filling will help to avoid the formation of bubbles during the solidification of the wax.

  • When the wax has completely hardened, trim the wick to required size and remove the tape.

  • Now you can light candles and enjoy the cozy atmosphere in the room.

At first glance, there is nothing complicated in the manufacture of candles. But there are a few recommendations for pouring fragrant decor that will facilitate the process and help avoid mistakes.

  • To achieve a uniform color of the wax, do not use food coloring. They are water based.
  • If it was not possible to purchase special dyes for candles, then use wax-based colored pencils. Grind them and add to the warm candle mass.

The process of making candles at home becomes an exciting experience. In addition, hand-made candle decor gives comfort and warmth.

How to make a candle with multi-colored wax, see the video:

All over the world, candles are more often used for decoration, making the interior more comfortable. To make a candle at home, you must adhere to several rules, for example, the fact that the wick is made correctly is of great importance, because it determines how evenly the candle will burn.

Also, do not forget that the more threads that are used in the manufacture of a candle, the thicker it is. For example, to make a candle with a diameter of 2-7 centimeters, you need to make 15 threads, but for a candle with a thickness of 10 centimeters, you need 24 threads.

Useful information about candle making

  • To melt the wax, you need to use a double boiler. If you don't have one, you can use an electric oven. Important: do not use glassware.
  • There are many types of wax, but almost all of them melt at a temperature of 90 ° C.
  • You should also get a thermometer that will allow you to monitor the temperature. It is better to purchase a thermometer with a scale on top and a steel rod. It is sold in specialized stores of laboratory equipment. You can use this thermometer to stir the wax.
  • If you want to melt the wax on an open fire, then you must be careful, because in this case the wax may catch fire. If this happens, then to extinguish, you need to use soda, not water.
  • Also remember that overheated wax releases a toxic by-product, acrolein. So make sure the room is well ventilated.

How to make a candle with your own hands

What you will need:

  • Special holder to stretch the wick in molten paraffin.
  • Wand.
  • A pair of wicks, which can be either wire or paper core.
  • Heat-resistant molds in which there will be candles.
  • The old bowl is not needed.
  • An old pan is not needed to melt paraffin in it.

To get 3 candles you need:

  • Flavoring (you can replace it with essential oil).
  • Dye, to give color.
  • Four hundred grams of granulated paraffin.
  • Forty grams of stearin powder.

Make the base for the candles:

  1. Pour the stearin powder into a bowl and place it over a pot of boiling water.
  2. Wait for the stearin to melt and add ¼ color tablet.
  3. Place paraffin in a bowl and heat to 80°C.
  4. Stir well all the time.
  5. As soon as the whole mass is melted, drip a couple of drops of flavoring or essential oil.

Prepare the wick:

  1. Soak the wick in melted paraffin for 5 minutes.
  2. Then let it dry.

Making a candle:

  1. Cut the wick a little longer than the height of the mold.
  2. Dip one end around a stick (for example, a pencil) and secure, and the second must be passed through a special holder and clamped with pliers.
  3. Lower the holder with the wick to the bottom of the mold and fill it with paraffin.
  4. Once you have filled the paraffin to the brim, you need to put a stick on the edges of the mold so that the wick is in the center.
  5. Now wait until the mixture hardens.
  6. Trim the wick at the end.

How to make a gel candle at home

During the preparation of candles, you must follow all the safety rules and just be careful, especially if you want to place some kind of decoration inside the candle. You should also carefully consider the choice of dye and aromatic oil.

Now decide which candles you want to make. Gel candles there are different ones, they are divided into the following groups:

  • Festive decoration.
  • Desserts and ice cream.
  • Fruit preserves.
  • Neon glows, fireworks, swirls, rainbows.
  • Coca-cola and other cocktails.
  • Cappuccino with foam and beer glasses.
  • Candles with treasures, Terrariums and Aquariums.

Once you've decided on a theme, choose a glass jar for the candle. A mug, a jar of jam, a glass, a square vase will do.

For example aquarium candles, which contains marine decorations, consider the cooking process.
You will need:

  • Form.
  • Wick.
  • Gel for cutting
  • A couple of decorative items that will be inside the candle. Since the theme is nautical, you can use, for example, nautical-themed toys or shells.

Cooking:

  1. Put candle gel in a water bath.
  2. Heat the gel over low heat to 100°C.
  3. Using glue at the bottom of the mold, fasten the wick with the stem so that the wick is located in the middle. This will provide the most better burning candles. It is also necessary to fix the wick on top of the form (you can use ordinary threads).
  4. Now you can use decorative items, of course they must not be flammable. You can put a few items at the beginning, and the rest at the end of cooking.
  5. Decorative items must not be placed closer than 6 ml. to the wick, but rather closer to the walls of the form.
  6. Before pouring the gel, it is better to heat the mold. This can be done with a hair dryer, so you can get rid of the bubbles.
  7. You also need to monitor the temperature of the gel, when it is 80-90 ° C, you can start filling the candle.
  • It is best to fill in layers, that is, first fill in a little bit of gel and after a while, when the gel hardens a little, fill in a new layer and so on until the end.
  • Don't wait too long if you don't want layer boundaries to form.
  • If you have made several colors, you can make it look like they are shimmering, while you need to wait a bit until the bottom layer hardens, otherwise the colors will simply mix.

The candle can be used only after a day.

Precautionary measures

  • The souvenirs with which you decide to decorate the candle must be non-flammable and clean.
  • To extinguish wax that burns, in no case use water, it is better to take a rag.
  • If the wax has reached a temperature of 180 ° C, it will ignite.
  • Wax should be melted only on water vapor and only according to the instructions of the wax and the mold, because the melting point of the wax is different, it depends on such factors: the quality of the mold and wax, the type of candle you are going to make.

Video lessons

I want to tell you how to make candles with your own hands at home. Although they are no longer relevant as light sources, they are excellent in the role decorative ornaments and original gifts. You will learn the most popular recipes that can be implemented even without artistic skills.

We create masterpieces on our own

Recipes for making candles that are easy to implement without leaving home:

Recipe number 1: "Wax"

Wax candles have a very simple structure:

They are created from the following materials:

Name Purpose Image
Wax or paraffin Creation directly of the body of the manufactured product. To obtain such materials, you can use ordinary household candles.
Thread of cotton or floss Creating a wick, which actually will radiate heat with light, slowly burning down
Pot Organization of a water bath for melting wax or paraffin
A clean metal container, in the role of which a ladle is perfect The content of wax or paraffin during their melting in a water bath
Molds made of tin, glass or plastic Shaping curable wax or paraffin
Wooden stick or regular pencil Wick attachment

For the first time, I recommend taking someone to help you, since the melted wax will begin to set in fifteen minutes after removing it from the burner. Due to inexperience alone, you may not have time to complete all the necessary actions.

Now let's look at the step by step tasks:

Step #1:
  • We tie one edge of a cotton thread or floss to the middle of a stick or pencil;
  • We place the stick or pencil itself on top of the form, laying it on its edges so that the second edge of the wick descends to the bottom of the container;
  • So we do with each of the prepared forms

Step #2:
  • To melt wax or paraffin, start by cutting them into small pieces. This will greatly speed up the process;
  • Then we collect about half a pot of water and put on a slow fire;
  • Pour the prepared material into the ladle, after which we immerse the container in heating water;
  • Stir the melting contents until it completely turns into a liquid homogeneous state without lumps.

Step #3:
  • Melted wax or paraffin a small amount pour into the mold just enough so that the lower edge of the wick sinks into it;
  • If necessary, we correct the thread or floss so that the fixation occurs qualitatively;
  • We wait about a minute for the material to set.

Step #4:
  • Carefully pour in the remaining melted paraffin or wax;
  • We leave the form until it is completely set.

Step #5:
  • After about 24 hours, we check how well the material used to create the candle body has frozen;
  • Then we measure the length of the wick by eye so that it is convenient to light it;
  • Cut off the excess;
  • A day later, the product can be used for its intended purpose.

It is better to use forms with smooth edges or disposable ones that can be simply destroyed. Then you do not have to leave ready-made candles in them.

Recipe number 2: "Colored"

A do-it-yourself colored candle at home is created almost exactly the same as a regular wax candle, with the exception of one additional ingredient: wax pencils.

They have very a large assortment possible colors, which opens up tremendous opportunities for transforming the appearance of hand-made candles:

  1. So you can make just a plain product by adding a piece of pencil you like to the paraffin or wax melted in a water bath. It will also dissolve, coloring the boring yellowness into a more cheerful and interesting shade;

  1. If you throw several multi-colored pieces at once into the melting mass, then you will get a rainbow candle;
  2. Striped specimens are more popular. In their manufacture, each portion of wax with a new color is poured after the previous one has completely solidified. The process, of course, is delayed, but the result looks amazing.

If, after pouring each new layer, the mold is not placed directly on the table, but set at an angle, then more complex ornaments can be obtained than a zebra.

Recipe #3: Flavored

It is not necessary to be limited to adding colored wax pencils alone. At home, you can also add a few drops of essential oil to the prepared solution before pouring it. In this case, your candle will become even more fragrant and even have a positive effect on the body.

Here are examples of the effects of some essences:

  1. Lavender and bergamot help to relax as much as possible, which is indispensable after a hard day at work;

  1. Lemon and rosemary help uplift Have a good mood and removal of negative thoughts;

  1. Geranium, rose and lavender relieve stress;

Recipe number 4: "Transparent gel"

Here, in order to make a candle at home, a special candle gel is used instead of wax or paraffin.

This gives a very important visual effect - transparency, due to which adjustments are also made to the manufacturing process itself:

  1. If the form is used with concave edges, then it must be transparent. Otherwise, the whole meaning of the helium candle will be lost;

  1. The selected form should be heated before direct pouring of the melted gel to prevent the formation of bubbles in the structure of the manufactured product;
  2. In the process of forming the body of the candle, they are immersed in its material decorative elements, which, due to the transparency of the helium composition, freeze inside. And as a decoration, everything that your imagination tells you will do. It looks amazing.

Recipe number 5: "Fruit"

Human ingenuity does not stop at the above, which I want to prove to you by demonstrating the recipe for candles using natural fruit fragments. For work you will need the following materials:

Having collected everything you need, let's get started tasks:

Step #1:
  • Carefully cut the lemon with a sharp knife;
  • We take out all the internal pulp from it;
  • We carry out a similar operation with the second fruit

Step #2:
  • We heat wax or paraffin in a water bath, as it was described in the instructions for creating wax candles;
  • Add dried lavender flowers, a few drops of essential oil and food coloring to the resulting substance;
  • Mix everything thoroughly

Step #3:
  • In the center of each of the resulting lemon halves, we fix a wick;
  • Then fill them with the prepared mixture

Step #4:
  • We put the filled fruit bowls in a cool place;
  • Looking forward to their full completion.

Just do not put the lemon molds in the refrigerator, as the wax filling them can harden unevenly there.

Recipe number 6: "Coffee"

In this case, the set of materials and the process itself are similar to the same production of the classic wax candle. But more are added coffee beans to give the product a special entourage.

And you can do this in four ways:

  1. It is enough just to add coffee beans to melted wax or paraffin, and you will already get an original drawing on the finished product;

  1. You can also veneer a ready-made candle with grains by gluing them with glue or pressing them to a material that has not yet completely solidified;

  1. The simplest option is to remove the already frozen sample from the mold, place it in a large transparent container and fill the gap between the walls with coffee beans;

  1. If you want to bet on flavor, and not on appearance, then add ground coffee to the melted wax or paraffin. And then, in the process of burning the candle, a pleasant coffee smell will disperse around the room.

Recipe number 7: "With photos"

This is not exactly a recipe for making a candle, since the entire initial process completely repeats the creation of a wax copy. But then, when it has completely hardened, you can begin to apply a photograph on its walls. For this need:

Image Name

Hardened paraffin or wax candle

Tracing paper

Paper sheet for printer

Wax paper

Scotch

Scissors

Printer

hair dryer

Procedure looks like that:

Step #1:
  • We select a suitable photo;
  • Tracing paper is fixed on a paper sheet with adhesive tape

Step #2:
  • We fill the combined sheets into the printer so that the copied image is printed on tracing paper;
  • We print out a photo;
  • Separate the tracing paper and cut out the main image from it, leaving a thin white frame

Step #3:
  • We wrap a candle with a printed photo;
  • Top it with waxed paper;
  • Warm up with a hair dryer until the emerging image becomes clear

Step #4:
  • Carefully remove the wax paper;
  • We receive the original product
