How to spray cabbage from pests with chemicals. Features of the cruciferous flea

In the market of goods for the garden and vegetable garden, remedies for pests of cabbage are quite widely represented. One trouble: at their core, one way or another, they have chemical compounds of varying degrees of toxicity. Despite assurances from experts that correct use these compounds are harmless to humans, gardeners rightfully fear chemical insecticides.

How to grow cabbage without chemicals?

Prevention. Simple measures help to prevent the appearance of pests of cabbage:

Thorough cleaning and disposal (best incineration) plant residues after harvesting cabbage;

Digging and leveling the soil (in autumn);

If possible, early planting of seedlings in the ground, so that it has time to get stronger before the appearance of pests;

Protecting cabbage beds with covering materials: this is the easiest way to avoid attack cruciferous flea and prevent white butterflies from laying eggs, from which caterpillars will then appear;

In spring and summer - weeding out of weeds related to cabbage: colza, shepherd's purse, field yarutka. Cabbage pests settle on them and are subsequently transferred to the ridges.

Protect cabbage from pests it is also possible at the stage of planting in the ground, planting other garden plants nearby.

Dill or tomatoes. Prevent the appearance of cabbage aphids.

Sage drives away the cabbage scoop with its smell.

Borago ( borage) protects against slugs.

Wormwood, mint and tansy repel cabbage flies and cabbage white caterpillars.

Unfortunately, prevention does not guarantee 100% protection of cabbage from pests, so be prepared to regularly inspect plantings for intruders.

Cabbage pests and folk remedies for them

Aphids started up on the cabbage. White and brown dots appear on the leaves, the leaves become discolored, curl up, shoots and buds acquire a bluish-pink hue. The development of heads of cabbage is suspended, cabbage begins to lag behind in growth. Clusters of aphids can be seen with the naked eye: they are gray-greenish creeping insects about 2 mm long, covered with whitish waxy dust.

How to treat cabbage from aphids? If the cabbage plantings are small, and the aphid colonies were noticed early, a simple wiping of the leaves with a cloth with a solution can help. laundry soap(300-400 g of soap per 10 liters of water). After a week, the procedure must be repeated.

Also, folk remedies for cabbage aphids include the following.

1. Infusion of tomato leaves and onion peel. For cooking, you will need 0.5 kg of onion peel and 1.5 - 2 kg of tops or stepsons of tomatoes. The tops are brewed with 5 liters of boiling water and infused for about 4 hours, then boiled for 3 hours, filtered and water is added in a ratio of 1:2. The husk is poured hot water(approx. 2 liters) and insist no more than two days, after which they add another 2 liters of water and a little liquid soap. After that, both infusions are mixed and the cabbage is sprayed with the resulting composition.

2. Infusion of ash, tobacco dust, mustard and liquid soap.

They take a glass of tobacco dust and ash and a tablespoon of mustard and soap, pour hot water (10 liters) and insist for a day. Tobacco dust is one of the most common pest control products: it is harmless to plants and humans, inexpensive and easy to use.

3. Decoction of tobacco.

400-500 g of tobacco leaves are poured into 2 liters of water, boiled for 2 hours, then filtered, add approx. 50 g of soap and dilute the resulting composition in a bucket of water.

4. A decoction of garlic, which is used as a universal remedy against most cabbage pests.

To prepare the broth, take 700-800 g of garlic (preferably onions along with the husk), pour 10 liters of boiling water and boil for 2 hours. Before watering, dilute with water in a ratio of 1: 1.

Caterpillars have settled on the cabbage. Gluttonous caterpillars- These are the larvae of two types of butterflies: cabbage scoop and the well-known cabbage whites. Small scoop caterpillars most often live inside a head of cabbage, therefore, with a cursory examination of cabbage, they can not be noticed immediately.

Folk remedies from caterpillars on cabbage :

Infusion of ash and tar shampoo (soap): a teaspoon of shampoo and 5 liters of water are taken for a glass of ash, insisted for a day, then cabbage is sprayed;

Sprinkling cabbage baking soda;

Spraying with infusion of tomato tops and onion peel. They can also process cabbage from aphids;

Manual collection of caterpillars (if you grow little cabbage);

Attract wasps - natural enemies of caterpillars. Sprinkling cabbage with sweet water, diluted jam or syrup lures these predatory insects to cabbage patches.

Sometimes you can find advice to hang eggshells on cabbage beds. It is believed that she scares away butterflies: they allegedly take the shells for the wings of rivals who took their place earlier. There are no statistics confirming the effectiveness of this method, but it's worth a try.

Beetles appeared in the cabbage. Most often, cabbage plantations are attacked by tiny jumping bugs - blue, green, striped or black with a sheen. This is different types cruciferous flea, one of worst enemies cabbage. The cruciferous flea eats leaves and is able to leave only veins from them very quickly. It is dangerous for very young plants, because their leaves are soft and tender. The hard leaves of mature plants do not attract bugs, so the main task of the gardener is to protect the seedlings until they get stronger. The first signs of cruciferous flea damage are small holes in the leaves.

Folk remedies for cruciferous flea:

Adding fir oil to the water for irrigation, the smell of which fleas do not tolerate;

Watering with regular flea shampoo, which can be bought at a pet store;

Planting dusting hot pepper, slaked lime, ash or a mixture of tobacco dust and ash in a ratio of 1:1. This should be done on wet leaves so that the product can be fixed on them. After rain or watering protective layer needs to be resumed.

For spraying:

Infusion chicken manure in a small concentration (1:20), aged for 6-7 days;

Infusion of ash and tar soap (shampoo);

A mixture of minced garlic (1 cup), tomato tops (1 cup) and liquid soap (1 tablespoon), diluted in 10 liters of water;

Infusion of tobacco with the addition of soap;

Vinegar, heavily diluted with water (250 ml of 9% vinegar per bucket of water);

How to remove slugs folk remedies :

Sprinkle the ground with mustard powder or crushed eggshells;

Remove the lower leaves so that the slugs cannot crawl onto the head of cabbage from the ground, or build a special “collar” that closes lower part head of cabbage

Spray the soil with infusion of bitter pepper;

Pour the cabbage with water with the addition of ammonia (50 ml per 5-6 liters of water), wait until the slugs crawl out of the heads and the ground, then repeat the procedure.

Cabbage Fly: The Invisible Enemy. Danger cabbage fly in the fact that the results of the vital activity of its larvae become noticeable far away at once, and the fly itself looks little different from the usual one. At the end of May, this insect lays its eggs directly in the root neck of a young cabbage or in the soil next to it. The hatched larvae infiltrate root system and cause root rot and death. Signs of defeat: withered appearance of the plant, stunting, darkening of the lower leaf to a lead color.

It is useless to process the cabbage itself from the fly, because the larvae attack the underground part of the plant.

Protect the cabbage from the fly without the use of chemical insecticides, it is possible only by interfering with the laying of eggs. To do this, the ground around the cabbage is sprinkled with a mixture of naphthalene and sand (1: 7) or tobacco dust with lime (1: 1) in an amount of about 300 g per square meter. m.

About the shortcomings of folk remedies. A significant disadvantage of cabbage pest control without chemicals- the need to frequently repeat the treatment: spraying, dusting, therapeutic watering, etc. Effect natural remedies unstable, and to obtain a crop it must be constantly renewed. However, the reward for the work will be delicious, crispy, strong, and most importantly - environmentally friendly cabbage, which can be safely offered to children.

The fight against cabbage white

What I just did not use against this white butterfly! And chemicals, and chamomile, and wormwood, and ash, and tomato tops… Chemicals are effective, but you do not want to poison yourself. Folk remedies are safe, but they must be used constantly, and I don’t go to the country so often. In general, for a long time my cabbage and I, along with it, suffered from a cute white butterfly and its voracious offspring. One day it finally dawned on me!

I washed things at the beginning of summer in the country, butterflies flew around, including my “favorite” white. I immediately thought about the future of my unfortunate cabbage, and suddenly a thought flashed through my mind: why not shelter the plants from whites, just as we close ourselves from insects at night? We cover the bed with a canopy, which I sewed with my own hands from gauze. So why not cover the garden bed in the same way?

I began to think about what material is better to use, it must pass rays and water and must be strong enough to last at least a season. Decided to experiment with mosquito net. I installed arcs of thick rods over the cabbage, pulled the net, sheathed each arc, the edges of the net lay freely on the ground. Then I crushed them with boards.

The sun is enough for cabbage. I water it directly through the net-cap. I remove the structure only when I weed and spud the plants. I fooled the white!

Dill and vinegar on cabbage pests!

I do not like to use chemicals, therefore, if the pest has not spread much, I use the most gentle methods of control. For example, I collect larvae and caterpillars of whites by hand. Not very pleasant, but safe for plants, and ultimately for ourselves. In addition, I sow dill on the cabbage bed. The aroma of dill attracts insects that destroy the larvae of whites.

If the butterflies continue to hover over the cabbage, I pour 2 cups of table vinegar (9%) into a 10-liter bucket of water and spray the plants with this solution. Whites do not like the pungent smell of vinegar and fly around the treated beds. It is only necessary to spray in calm weather, when there is no rain, and it is especially necessary to carefully process the lower part of the leaves - this is where the whites like to lay eggs.

If this does not help, you have to use insecticides - do not give your favorite cabbage to be eaten by butterflies!

This is a completely safe and proven way to get rid of caterpillars on cabbage.

The key is prevention

When it was time to plant cabbage in the ground, I got worried: this year there are already a lot of cabbage butterflies. I began to remember what my grandmother taught me.

The main thing in the fight against cabbage is prevention. We hold it every year in April-May. We clean tree trunks in the garden, sweep the fence, pour water from the hose under pressure on the walls of outbuildings, because pest pupae winter not only in the ground, but also in secluded places - in crevices, between boards, under slats, etc. When I began to plant seedlings of cabbage, I planted seedlings of marigolds along with it. These flowers are very fragrant and repel pests well.

Chamomile for delicious heads of cabbage

Pharmacy chamomile grows in my flower garden, but I use it not only for health, but also against cabbage butterflies, or rather its caterpillars. When the chamomile blooms, I cut above-ground part, grind and fill with water (it should turn out somewhere around 0.5 kg per 5 liters of water). A day later, I filter this infusion and fill it with a bucket of water (10 l). I add an incomplete handful of soap chips, mix everything well and spray the leaves.

If you do not have pharmacy chamomile, you can use mustard infusion (50 g of powder per 5 l). You need to insist it for 2-3 days, and then add another 5 liters of water and process the cabbage. You can also periodically dust the heads of tobacco dust.

Valerian from butterflies

My grandmother once advised me one very effective folk method fight with cabbage butterfly, fleas, aphids and all sorts of other cabbage pests based on valerian.

It is necessary to pour a vial of valerian (25 ml) into a 3-liter jar of water, add 1 tbsp. l. liquid soap and mix well. You can spray cabbage with this solution up to three times during the summer, the last one a month before harvesting. The advantages of the method are that the strong smell of valerian interrupts the aroma of cabbage, and soap is destructive for insects.

I liked the effect of the 1st spraying - there were no fleas, no cabbage butterflies. The cabbage grew and was pleasing to the eye. To consolidate the result after 3 weeks, she re-sprayed. This time the effect was unexpected. Cabbage butterflies flew by, but they began to gather in the beds ... cats from neighboring gardens!

They rubbed their backs against tender cabbage leaves, rolled on the ground, undermined and gnawed cabbage roots. As a result, in a few days I lost a third of my future crop! I was saved by a downpour that washed the valerian off the cabbage. Apparently, this method is suitable for those who do not have cats in the neighborhood.

Cabbage pests - how to fight and how to get rid - folk advice

Strong cabbage with small holes

Let me tell you about some of my experience, maybe it will be useful to someone too. My plot is small and on stationary garden beds a meter wide broken long ago. But

There is no way to make wide paths, so my row spacing is not wider than 50 cm. I covered them somewhere with brick, where with coal slag, and where with tiles, so now it’s clean in the garden. But because of the tightness of the plantings, I have a lot of slugs, so there is nowhere to lay out the traps (the paths are already so crowded). And what do these pests love the most? cabbage! And by the end of summer, she already has all the leaves in holes. What to do? I only found one way.

In spring and early summer, plantings are either sprayed generously with a solution of ash, or powdered, and, despite the “openwork” cabbage foliage, the forks grow strong and clean. And when the neighboring beds are vacated at the end of summer and autumn, I specially put more tops on them so that slugs gather under these heaps, from where I calmly get them.

But one thing is not entirely clear to me: is there any special meaning in this? Maybe at the end of the season they will die themselves, but I still need to pull myself together and find a place and strength to collect them in the summer? Who knows, answer. But I won the battle with white butterflies unconditionally - they now fly around my cabbage for a kilometer. And it's all about marigolds.

Once I got so many seedlings of these flowers that, for lack of free space, I attached it to a ditch for irrigation, which is located exactly in the middle of the cabbage bed, between two rows of plantings (and it turns out because I take the earth from it for planting plants).

The marigolds grew very quickly, and even before their neighbor closed the leaves, they rose and bloomed. And it was so beautiful that when I first saw it, I was simply dumbfounded: among the greenery of cabbage, yellow and orange balls burned brightly! And so they shuganuli the malicious butterfly properly. Now I always do this.

But last year, at the height of the season, a whitefly started up in my greenhouse - hordes! What I just didn’t do: I burned mosquito plates, and hung flycatcher ribbons, and laid out yellow cardboard boxes with glue, and sprayed with chemicals - all in vain. She waved her hand, because the harvest was already ripe. And in the fall, this rubbish itself disappeared.

But what are you preparing for this summer? What should I do to protect myself from the cursed whitefly? I hope for your help, dear summer residents.

What will the "bydylki" teach

From April to October I live at the dacha and am blissful. Neighbors come for the whole summer, it’s not boring with them, there is someone to talk to, but they leave for the city in the middle of autumn. It makes me sad, and I also move home. When my husband was alive, we did everything together, but now I can do it alone. Children do not like to work in the country, but when the harvest is in progress, they do not refuse to help me. I can’t boast of large harvests, but my family has enough, and I also help my aunt.

And here's what I want to tell you. Once in May I go into a greenhouse, but my cabbage seedlings are not there. As if it had been cut with scissors, only "bydylki" remained. She cried, of course, but, having calmed down, she remembered the way to grow cabbage faster. Made holes, embankments

la there a handful of ashes and humus and put one or two seeds at a time. I sprinkled it with earth and placed one and a half liter bottles with a cut bottom on top. Soon sprouts appeared. I watered them around the bottles, and on hot days I unscrewed the corks for ventilation. And the cabbage has grown wonderfully!

Since then, I always grow it this way and no longer wear seedlings.

About the daughter-in-law and heads of cabbage

Despite all my labors, White cabbage in last years I didn’t succeed in any way: the seedlings were not bad, and I took care of them, as expected, but the heads of cabbage grew no more than two kilos in weight, and even with some kind of dry streaks inside. Last season I decided to plant it in a new place: strawberries once grew there, and then the earth rested for three years. She took the seedlings not from her own, but from the daughter-in-law, dived into the greenhouse, and when three or four leaves appeared, she threw them into open ground. At the same time, I used the method of Boris Andreevich Ermolov: I put a bundle of straw and a handful of ash in the holes, a little complex fertilizer, mixed everything, watered and placed the sprouts in a mushy wet mass, sprinkled with dry earth on top.

Then she fed the cabbage with herbal and ash infusions, laid out the crushed shells, and her husband often and plentifully watered it. I don’t know what specifically influenced, but the cabbages were a success. They grew up to 6-7 kg in weight, clean, without any damage and of excellent quality. I was very satisfied, providing my needs for the whole year.
