In this lesson, I will limit myself to the first of the above groups of personal influence, while other groups will be dealt with in subsequent lessons.



To give a reasonable idea of ​​the nature of suggestion in a few lines is no easy task. If the reader is even a little familiar with hypnotism and hypnotic suggestion, he will immediately understand what I mean by the word "Suggestion." To those who do not enjoy this advantage, I will say this: suggestion is an impression, CONSCIOUSLY or UNCONSCIOUSLY received by us through one of our senses. We constantly accept or reject suggestions, which depends on the degree of suggestibility of ourselves and on the magnitude of the unreceptive properties of our mind. We cannot touch here in the same detail on the issue known under the name of the duality of human consciousness, or of objective and subjective reason: arbitrary and involuntary reason, conscious and subconscious thinking, etc. If the reader wishes to become more fully acquainted with this, then I would advise him to read some good work on hypnotism and hypnotic suggestion.

In order to make the reader understand my idea of ​​the use of suggestion as a means of manifesting personal influence, I will tell him that the human mind has two main functions, which, according to the terminology used by me and other authors, are known as active and passive. The active function governs conscious, volitional thinking, and is also expressed in what we call "will power." This is the function which is employed by the often active, energetic, cheerful and vigilant person in his practical activities. Whereas the passive function is in charge of instinctive, automatic, unaccountable thinking, not showing the "power of the waves" and being the complete opposite of the active function.

The passive function is a valuable servant of man, it performs most his mental work, doing all the rough part of it, and, moreover, without any reward and gratitude. She works without complaining, apparently without strain, and never seems to get tired. On the contrary, the active function works only under compulsion of the will and uses large quantity nerve forces than its passive counterpart. It performs active (voluntary) work of the mind, soon gets tired of the effort and requires rest. You feel the cost of more or less energy when using the active function, but hardly notice it when you use the faithful, accommodating passive function. I hope that from this brief explanation you now see distinctive features every function.

In many persons almost all thinking follows the passive path. Such people find it too much trouble to think for themselves and prefer the "ready-made" thoughts of others to their own; they are terribly reminiscent of sheep. They are very gullible and ready to believe almost everything - if only it was done in a convincing, positive way. These people are very susceptible to suggestion, and in fact are always at the mercy of other, more active people. They find it difficult to say "no" and tend to say "yes" as it is easier and requires less thought. Others are less receptive to suggestion, and some succumb to it with difficulty, and then only AT TIME. But in the latter case, when they rest their active function, they are much more affected than at all other times. To make it easier for you to visualize these two functions and be able to apply the exercises suggested in this book, imagine two twins who work as participants in a business enterprise. They look exactly the same, but have various properties and qualities. Each of them performs those duties that most correspond to his character. They equally share the benefits and losses of the enterprise. The passive partner takes care of receiving goods, packing them, fulfilling orders, keeping accounts, etc., while the active participant deals with sales, general management of all affairs, financial transactions - in a word, manages. He is the soul of the whole enterprise. When it comes to buying goods, both companions work together.

The passive participant is a good-natured, accommodating, “easily yielding” person; he is one of those people who pore over the case, work mechanically, like automata. There is something "stopped" in his ideas; he is superstitious and blindly devoted to his companion, but at the same time very trusting and ready to believe anything, so long as it is not directly opposed to some of his established concepts. For him to understand new idea, it is necessary to introduce it imperceptibly and little by little into his head.

He is accustomed to always rely on the opinion of his companion, and when the latter is absent, on the opinion of other people. He is ready to do for us any favor or gift, whatever you ask, as long as your demand is made in a firm and confident manner. He is afraid of causing you trouble by rejection, and is ready to promise you anything to get rid of you and avoid making you a direct rejection. You can sell anything to him, unless his companion is nearby. You will be able to get what you want from him, you just have to clothe your demand in a bold and confident form. I hope you now know what type it is.

An active companion is a completely different kind of person. He is suspicious, cautious, cheerful, "hard as steel." For him, there are no empty spaces. He considers it necessary to secretly monitor his passive companion so that the interests of the firm do not suffer. The passive participant is constantly in danger of being "snared" or screwed up, and really needs some kind of babysitter. If an active companion happens to forget or go into some business and stop watching his companion, then. wait for that, something will happen to the last one. Therefore, an active participant is not too inclined to promote your acquaintance with his comrade, unless he knows you very well, or thinks that you have no regard for his weak comrade. He keeps a watchful eye on you, inquiring about your affairs and trying to find out what's on your mind before he allows you to see another companion.

If he assumes that you are plotting something against his comrade, then he will say something like that the latter is not at home, etc. Even if he allows you to see his comrade, he will watch your every move and listen to your every word. Suppose he that you are going to set a trap for his companion - he will immediately come on stage. He discusses each proposal and accepts it if it is prudent, otherwise rejects it. As he gets used to you, he becomes less suspicious and may even have a significant amount of trust in you. He is also ready to have fun and have fun, and for this time will weaken vigilance and suspicion.

One has only to eliminate his suspicions once, and you can exchange a word with his companion face to face. This is a great success, because the weak participant, once they get to know you, will figure out how to make the next date easier. He feels lonely, he is oppressed by the violent guardianship of his companion, and if he gets to know you, he will try to find an opportunity to chat again. Only the first step is difficult.

Remember, please, that the mind of every man and woman consists, as it were, of the two described partners (partners) of some partnership, of the two kinds of functions that I have just introduced you to. Of course, not all of them are the same and there is a big difference between them. In some forms, the passive participant acts almost independently, while in others his position is different. The difference depends only on the degree of positivity of the active participant. However, there are HUGE differences among active companions. Some of them are magnificent examples of caution, vigilance and wisdom, while others are endowed with these qualities in smaller sizes. Some of them are quite like their "weak" passive companions. Some of them succumb only to open force, others to persuasion, others to flattery, and some can be caught only at the time when they weaken their vigilance. Some of them so allow themselves to be interested in something that they do not notice how the visitor gets acquainted with their passive companion, and allow the latter to dispose of it at his own discretion. Everyone has their own characteristics, their weaknesses. Since every person has some weak point, it is obviously necessary to find this weak point and lead the attack directly on it.

You will immediately see that the most important thing is to deceive the vigilance of the active participant. There are various ways to do this - it's just a matter of finding the best one. If one path is unprofitable, look for another. Follow this rule and you will eventually win a decisive victory.

"A timid and weak heart will never see success with a beauty." A job CAN be done if done properly. Because they do it every day. Some are easier, some are harder, but it can be done WITH ALL of these vigilant companions, as long as you take it seriously.

Never take the word "no" as an answer. Do things the same way you would if you were courting the girl you love. In the latter case, one "no", two or even a whole dozen such "no" are not taken into account. Keep the same tactics in your affairs, and you will succeed, I tell you. Don't forget, destiny is a woman and possesses all characteristic features of their gender.

Suggestions are reinforced by repetition. A person may turn down an offer once, but when he hears about the same thing over and over again, he is ready to believe in it.

Yes, there is no miracle in this, you yourself were convinced of something after repeated repetitions. Why can't you do the same? Also, the suggestion may not have a visible effect at the time it is made. It is like a seed that has sunk into fertile soil, will begin to grow by the time you return again.

By capturing the interest of an active companion during a personal date, you have prepared a passive participant as well. The latter, prompted by curiosity (which he has in abundance), tried to come closer and listen to the conversation. Then, when you leave, he will begin to reflect on what he has heard, and the next time you come, he will try to talk to you personally, despite the severity and vigilance of his companion. "Love laughs at obstacles," and so does sometimes the passive companion with his comrade. Remember the picture you just sketched of both functions (manifestations of the spirit), the active companion and its passive companion. Having learned this, you will be able to direct your suggestion to achieve better success and also to protect themselves from suggestions from other persons.

In order to impress the person with whom you will enter into direct intercourse, you will not have to rely solely on the power of suggestion to break the vigilance of the active participant. In this you have two powerful allies at your service, namely, the spontaneous thought-waves sent forth voluntarily by your mind, and the involuntary attraction of thoughts. Through the exercises which will be suggested in the following lessons, these powers can be developed to the highest degree. You will also learn to acquire those qualities that will help you produce good impression per active member. By the way, keep in mind that the latter is often influenced by the appearance of a person.

However, there is one more thing you must develop, and that is confidence in yourself and faith in your own ability to get the job done. Every boy can swim, but he is not sure. As soon as he is convinced of his skill, he will begin to swim; but while he is “not sure” of this, he cannot swim. By practicing, he will learn to swim better, but this art was in him from the very beginning, he lacked one thing - confidence. Believe that we have the ability to influence others, but until you believe in it and develop confidence, you will not be able to manifest it in practice, but you can do it, you just have to try it once. Start with light exercises, but confidence is needed right from the start. Some discovered it by accident and do not know the reason for their success, but now you know the reason, and you can act just as well and even better than those people who grope.
