Make a pass switch circuit. We mount the wires and installation elements of the circuit

You may be interested in this topic, in which we will analyze in detail how to make a pass-through switch with your own hands. The goal of the project is to assemble the entire circuit yourself and at the same time it is not expensive for family budget. The first thing you can find on the Internet, on a topic of interest, is a remake of the usual two-key model in the checkpoint. By intervening in the design of the mechanism and turning the closing rocker arm 180 degrees, as well as replacing the clamping contacts. The advantage of this method is the opportunity to save a lot, since it is much more expensive than usual on sale and not all manufacturers have this unit in their catalog of offers. However, if we talk about the disadvantages of this method, not many versions are amenable to such alteration, and there is no guarantee that after the change the device will work correctly and will not fail prematurely. Therefore, next we will consider several assembly schemes pass-through switch at home.

Alteration of a two-gang switch

We carefully disassemble the device, remove the keys, pry off the cover of the mechanism and remove it, make sure that the design allows you to move the contact with the clamp, and the rocker of the movable contact will also work well inverted by 180 degrees. If the answer is yes, we perform this rework procedure.

It is necessary to perform manipulations, which would turn out as in the photo below:

Now we carefully assemble the resulting mechanism and check its performance. Two keys must be combined into one large one so that the contacts switch synchronously.

The video below shows one of the conversion options:

Using pushbutton switches

The second idea is to use two-position push-button switches instead of walk-through structures, to whose contacts are not designed for a large load, which should be taken into account when designing the circuit. It is necessary to purchase two-position ON-ON switches that work as follows:

  • one group is on, the other is not;
  • the second group is on, the first is de-energized.

Using this pair of buttons, you can organize a circuit for passing light control.

Also, instead of push-button switches, it is possible to use toggle switches, the connection diagram does not differ from that described above.

We take as a basis an intermediate relay

The last option we proposed is the use of conventional single-key switches in conjunction with. The proposed scheme is more suitable for reflection, since it is not difficult to implement, but there may be nuances in operation. The fact is that this way assembling a pass-through switch implies permanent job one of the relays, and this is an additional power consumption, not much high power but still a consumer. Consider this nuance during the operation of the proposed scheme.

A pass switch is, strictly speaking, not a switch but a switch. Although the people call it a switch, because it serves to turn off the light. I will also adhere to folk traditions in this article.

The use of a walk-through switch is very convenient where it is necessary to turn on or off the lighting from different places. As its name implies, such a switch can be placed in the aisles.

Other application examples are large rooms, corridors, stairs, etc.

In order to turn the light on or off, in this case it is necessary to switch one of the switches (there are usually two of them, but there may be more) to the opposite position.

Wiring diagram for walk-through switches

Pass-through switches are always used only in pairs, that is, there can be only two of them in the circuit, but not one or three. The connection diagram in the case of using two pass-through switches will look like this:

The classic scheme for switching on lighting from two points with walk-through switches

In practice, I usually use a VVG 3x1.5 cable, in which there are three wires - white, blue, yellow-green. See installation example below. So, in order not to get confused, I do it according to the rule: the circuit input (pin 1 SA1) is white, the second and third contacts are connected blue and yellow, respectively, the circuit output (pin 1 SA2) is white. Always white (phase) and blue (zero) wires are suitable for the light bulb.

As can be seen from the diagram, the EL lamp will only light when the switches SA1 and SA2 are in the same position - either up or down. When the positions are different, no current flows in the circuit.

Light control from multiple locations: cross switch

There can be only two pass-through switches in the circuit. If it is required to control lighting from three or more places, then a scheme with a cross (double pass) switch is used:

Circuit with a cross switch for turning on the lighting from three places

A cross switch can be made from a double pass switch. To do this, just fasten the two keys together and connect the necessary contacts according to the diagram. If you use several cross switches, you can control the lighting from several places.

I live on the fifth floor. It happens that when I go up to my floor, I notice that it is a bit dark, and I had to turn on the light on the second floor. On the second one, I didn't think about it, because there is a light on there, which turns on on the first one. But the diagram above - on several floors - would completely eliminate this problem - turn on the light in the entrance wherever you want.

In practice, cross switches are rarely used.

If you need to turn on the lighting from several places, then you can (and better, and easier) use the stair switch as described in the article about SamElectric.ru.

From the checkpoint - a conventional switch

There are situations when you need to install a switch, and there is only a pass-through switch at hand. The question arises - how to convert a pass-through switch into a regular one?

It doesn't matter, you can set the gate as normal, no difference.

A pass switch, if used alone (without a pair), becomes a normal switch. In this case, one contact is either not used, or the switch can switch two lighting lines to the selection:

The two-gang pass-through switch consists of two independent pass-through switches. Using two double pass switches is like using four regular pass switches. The only difference is the number of mounting boxes.

Therefore, if you need to convert a pass-through switch into a regular one, you just need not to connect one of its extreme terminals, otherwise connect it in the same way as a regular one.

Here, just the answer to a similar question from a reader (see comments, dated August 16, 2017) - what to do if there are pass-through switches, but ordinary ones are needed?

Here is the circuit shown in the photo of the switch:

In this case, a dual feedthrough switch is shown (i.e. two feedthrough switches in one housing). Contacts 2 and 5 are medium, they are constantly supplied with phase. Accordingly, the phase is removed from contacts 3 and 4 after switching, and enters the light bulb. And zero is constantly applied to the light bulb.

If the bulbs are turned on with the keys in different directions, then you just need to connect the bulb to another output contact of the switch. For the left - not to 3, but to 6. For the right - not to 4, but 1.

And what's fresh in the VK group SamElectric.ru ?

Subscribe and read the article further:

Important! I'm not quite sure that the middle contact in the switch is 2 and 5. The circuit is drawn somehow implicitly ...

In conclusion, I note one more difference between pass-through switches and conventional ones. Number of wires to pass switch- not two, but three. And four wires should be connected to the crossover. This must be taken into account in advance when laying the wiring.

Scheme of connecting the pass-through switch

For an example of connection, we use the Gunsan Visage two-gang pass-through switch, the photo of which is shown below:

Gunsan Visage two-gang switch. Appearance assembled from the front.

By the way, there is no backlight in such switches. At least I haven't met.

Remove the keys and decorative panel:

Front view. Through the transparent plastic, the switch contacts are clearly visible - it is immediately clear what to connect where.

Back view. Pass-through switch terminals

During installation, 3 wires should be suitable for the through switch, in our case, 6 wires for a two-gang switch.

Connecting a walk-through switch

There is no need to be afraid of the abundance of wires, the connection of a single-gang switch from a two-gang pass-through switch differs only in that a two-gang switch is actually two one-gang switches in one housing.

The colors of the wires must be clearly remembered, but it is better to sketch on the diagram so as not to make a mistake during installation. Above in the quote is a mnemonic rule that is best used when installing and connecting.

We put on the cover, put the keys - and the connection of the pass-through switch is completed!

This is more of a joke...

Installation option of a “through” switch

The option of installing a “pass-through” switch from different rooms

Checkpoint - this is after all with the ability to turn off from different places, right?

A lighting device, which is located, say, in a bedroom, can be turned on with a conventional switch located in the same room. But there are situations when one lamp needs to be simultaneously controlled from different rooms. In such a scheme, a conventional switch without modification is unlikely to help, therefore, a different type is used - a pass-through, which is also called a switch according to its functional feature.

In this case, it is not entirely necessary to go to buy such a device. This is where the usual switch comes in handy, which every home master can remake at the checkpoint.

If you went into the office - turned on the light, and then sat down at the desktop, turned on the table lamp, then you can turn off the overhead light without getting up from the table.

In private houses combined with outbuildings, it is also very convenient to install a pass-through switch: before leaving the house in the utility room, he turned on the light, and when leaving this room through the door leading to the street, you can turn off the light without returning back to the house. And such switches can be installed several for one light source.

On the personal plot for lamps installed in gazebos, near the paths, it is convenient to have at least two switches, one for turning on and off in the house, the second directly near the lighting fixture. From two independent points, current is transferred from one circuit to another. Very convenient and no need to waste time returning to the original position.

The process of alteration is available to everyone!

Outside, the pass switch is the same as a regular one, it can have one, two or more keys. Moreover, a conventional switch can be converted to a checkpoint. The difference between a conventional and a pass-through switch depends only on the “stuffing”, i.e. connection diagrams. It is necessary to switch current from one circuit to another, so it is more correct to call it a switch. Most often in everyday life, a marching one-button switch is used. For large rooms with multiple lights need a multi-key switch.

There should be three contacts in the pass-through switch - instead of two, as in the usual one. A three-core wire must be laid between the switches, which can be hidden in the wall, but for this it is necessary, or use external wiring.

Switches are always connected so that the phase always goes to the switch, and not to the lamp. The phase always goes into a circuit break, and zero is always connected to a light source.

Through wire 0 it goes to the lamp, the phase goes to the switch - to the input, two wires go to the output - the jumper closes the circuit alternately, then with one or the other cable. These two wires go to another switch, and one cable comes out of it to the lamp. Current is transferred from one line to another.

Motion detectors have also been widely used for the same purposes. The latter of these can also be done at home.

To convert a conventional switch to a checkpoint, you need two switches of the same company and always of the same size: one-key and two-key.

It is necessary to buy such a two-gang switch, in which you can swap the terminals so that the two circuits close / open independently of each other.

Thus, in one position one circuit will be turned on, in another - another.

For alteration are most often used. Since it is for outdoor wiring that it is difficult to find a pass-through switch.

One key is placed on the front panel (from the same size as the two-key one) instead of two, and the pass-through switch is ready!

Why do you need to remake the pass switch from the usual one on the video clip

A pass switch is a device with which you can control one light source from different places. These devices are installed in long corridors, as well as in passages and on stairs. AT recent times they are increasingly used in bedrooms: one switch at the entrance to the room, and the second - near the bed. Their convenience lies in the fact that in order to turn off the light in the corridor or room, there is no need to return. They are also used in offices: in this case, sitting at the table and turning on table lamp, you can, without getting up from your workplace, turn off the top lamp. In this article, we will talk about how to make a pass-through switch from a regular one yourself.

Pass-through switch features

Unlike the usual double switch, the pass-through has three contacts. These devices are interconnected by means of a three-core cable, which can pass openly from the outside, or can be hidden inside the wall in a grooved groove.

The connection is made in such a way that the neutral wire goes to the light source, and the phase goes into the circuit break to the switch. The zero cable goes through the electrical distribution box to the lamp, the phase goes to the input.

Two cables are connected to the output, and an alternating closure occurs via a jumper electrical circuit. These wires are connected to the second switch, and one of them goes further, to the lamp. Thus, electricity is transferred from the first line to the second.

A device such as a triple pass switch is commercially available today, but its cost is quite high. And if you do not have the desire to overpay a lot of money, you can make a pass switch with your own hands. This does not require any special tools or any special professional skills.

Externally, the through switch is indistinguishable from the usual one, and may have one or more switching keys. The difference between them lies in internal arrangement. At home, marching switches with one key are usually used. However, it is more correct to call a transition device a switch, since it is designed to switch electrical circuits. If the room has large area, you may need a fixture with multiple keys.

Alteration: procedure

The processing of a conventional switch in the gate is to add a third contact. For this operation, it is desirable for us to have two switches made by the same manufacturer: for one and for two keys.

In size, they should not differ from each other. When buying a two-key device, you need to pay attention to whether it is possible to swap the terminals in such a way that the closing and opening of each of the circuits occurs independently of the other. Thus, one of the positions of the switch key will correspond to the inclusion of the first circuit, the other - the second.

Now we go directly to the work itself on reworking the device:

  • We loosen the clamps of suitable cables, as well as the screws of the spacers of the socket box - this is necessary in order to pull the switch out of the socket in the wall. Naturally, the electricity must be turned off. It is also advisable to determine the location of the phase with a probe and make appropriate marks on the plastic insulation of the wire. This will make reassembling the device as easy as possible.
  • Remove the switch and turn it over reverse side, unbend the case clamps and remove the electrical part. With a standard screwdriver, this can be done in two to three minutes. Then, with a thick slotted screwdriver, we take out the pushers-springs located in the frame. You won't be able to do this with a thin screwdriver. When removing the pushers, be careful and take your time so as not to break or bend the elements.

  • From the ends of the dismantled part of the switch there are two teeth - they need to be pry off with a slotted screwdriver.
  • We proceed to the main stage of the procedure. There are three groups of contacts on the ceramic basis of the device: common, individual and movable (rocker arms). One of the rocker contacts must be rotated 180 degrees, after which one contact pad related to general group, you need to cut (it is not necessary to isolate after that). After that, the previously removed part of the product is installed in place.

  • Then the key from the single switch is removed and installed on a converted two-key device. If you do not have a single switch, you can glue two buttons together. The easiest way to do this is with a special gun. Now, when the contacts of one circuit are closed, the other will hang in the air.

As can be seen from the above, the procedure is quite simple and will not take you much time.

Disadvantages of walk-through switches

It should be noted that these devices, due to their specificity, have small disadvantages:

  • It is impossible to determine whether a device is turned off or on by the location of its keys.
  • It is impossible to turn on or off the lamp at the same time from different places.

These minor disadvantages do not affect the operation of the device in any way and are unlikely to affect the decision to install them or independent production, but we must be prepared that for the first time after setting the switch, some confusion may occur.

Visually, the process of converting a conventional switch into a checkpoint on the video:

If there is no desire to disassemble the switch, then the next video discusses the method of connecting directly. It is not as effective as the first one, but as an option in case of emergency it can come in handy:

Conclusion

A pass-through switch, either store-bought or self-made, is very convenient fixture. Turning a light fixture on and off from different locations avoids having to go back and forth from one end of the room to the other just to flip a button.

In this material, we figured out in detail how you can convert an ordinary switch into a checkpoint. With a certain skill, you will not only save your finances, but you yourself will make a fully functional and accurate switch, almost in no way inferior to the factory one. You can use it in exactly the same way as a factory product. And boast of having such homemade device not everyone can do it in their home, so this will be an additional reason for you to be proud of yourself.

To increase comfort and convenience in the operation of lighting devices, a pass-through switch is used: the connection diagram clearly shows the principle of operation of the switching device. With it, you can control the lighting of the room from any point in it. About the design features and the rules for installing the product are described in detail in this article.

Pass-through switches are designed to turn on and off lighting from different parts of the room or flight of stairs. This means that you can turn on the light, for example, when entering a room, and turn it off in another part of it. This principle of operation allows significant energy savings.

Pass-through switch for appearance no different from normal. Its front movable panel also shows up and down arrows. Ordinary switch equipped with one input and one output. In contrast to this pass-through device has one input and two outputs. This indicates that the current is not interrupted here, but is redirected to any of the outputs.

How to connect an outlet with my own hands. Description preparatory activities and installation technology. Rules for handling the electrical network

If lighting control is planned from more places, in general scheme additional cross switches are introduced, which are connected according to the above principle.

A three-wire cable is connected to each pass-through switch, and a four-wire cable is connected to the crossover switch. All wires used for connection must be of the same cross section. Switches that can operate at normal current of 6.10 and 16A must have the same rating. You can clearly see the connection diagram of the pass-through switches from 3 places on specialized sites on the Internet.

Wiring diagram for a two-gang pass-through switch

With the help of walk-through switches, you can control not only one lamp, but also a group of several lighting devices. To do this, connect two-gang switches. Each of them has six contacts. Common wires are determined according to the same principle as for conventional devices, but you need to ring large quantity wires.

The difference between the connection scheme of the double pass switch is that more wires are used here. The phase is fed to both inputs of the first switch. From the two inputs of the second switch, there should be wires for two lamps. In the case of organizing lighting control from three or more points, two should be installed for each of them. cross switch, since they are only single-key.

In this case, according to the principle of connecting double switches with cross switches, the first pair of contacts should be connected to one cross, and the second to the other. If necessary, the devices are interconnected. The output of both cross switches must be connected to the last two-button adapter.
