So that later it would not be necessary to cut a hole for coins in the piggy bank, we decided to make it immediately when casting the top cover of the safe, for this we used plasticine. To prevent the gypsum from flowing out of the mold, they covered the mold around the perimeter with plasticine, but as it turned out later, this was not necessary, if the gypsum solution was not too liquid, then it would not leak anyway.

Gypsum mortar must be made according to the instructions on the package of gypsum. For greater strength, we added a little PVA glue (You can read more about ways to give strength to gypsum). By the way, it is better to weigh the ingredients for mixing the gypsum mortar and use an equal amount of the solution on all walls so that they are the same. To simplify the process, we did everything “by eye”, so the walls turned out to be different in thickness.

In turn, we cast the walls of the piggy bank from gypsum.

In this way, you need to make 4 walls, only the remaining 3 are already without a hole.

After the glue dries, you need to make another wall of the piggy bank, for this we pour the gypsum mortar directly into the assembled "box". The remains of the solution can strengthen the joints of the walls of the safe, as well as cover up cracks and irregularities.

While the poured gypsum will set, you can make a decorative part of the piggy bank-safe, i.e. lock and handle.

At first we wanted to make a keypad with numbers in the form of a combination lock. They planned to cast a thin rectangle from plaster and scratch buttons on it, but then the son changed his mind and wanted to make something like an old spinning lock. For this we used a plastic cup from jelly.

Then you need to make the last wall of the safe. To do this, we make a form a little bigger size than it was for the walls of the piggy bank, pour the mixed gypsum mortar into it and place the previously made piggy bank body into it with the hole down.

When the solution begins to set, you need to disassemble the formwork and remove excess gypsum. Unhardened surpluses can be covered and evened out the remaining irregularities.

After the base of the piggy bank dries, you need to sand all the bumps.

Because all the walls turned out to be smooth, then we need to make an imitation of the safe door. To do this, we drew the outline of the door and scratched it out with an ordinary awl.

It remains to glue the “lock”, cover the piggy bank with an acrylic primer, paint and varnish it so that the paint does not peel off.

For painting, we used silver and black acrylic paint, and covered with acrylic varnish on top.
