Drinker for chickens from a plastic bottle. We design a drinking bowl for chickens

A necessary condition for the full development of young animals at home is the constant availability of fresh water. However, watering should be done in such a way that the chicks do not get wet. For this purpose there are special devices allowing them to drink without spilling water. They can be purchased in specialized stores, however, such a drinking bowl for chickens can also be easily made with your own hands. In the photo you can see different kinds drinkers that you can design yourself.

Features of a chicken drinker

Considering the fact that water consumption by chickens is twice the amount of feed consumed per day, drinking bowls for them must have sufficient capacity. This is necessary to maintain an appropriate water balance, which contributes to normal growth. The feeling of thirst leads to irreversible processes in development, often ending in death. The constant desire of chicks to get into the water forces them to choose devices that prevent this dangerous process.

Today, the industry produces a huge amount of equipment designed for feeding chickens, however, it is not designed for large numbers. That's why the best option will make a drinking bowl for the young animals with his own hands. In addition, it will cost much less than purchasing expensive devices. We offer you to consider several interesting options.

Drinking bowl from a plastic bottle

Plastic is a fairly common material from which construction all kinds of devices. Therefore, making a homemade drinking bowl from it, which is suitable for ordinary young animals and broilers, will not be difficult. Below you see a diagram of such a drinking bowl.

Tools and materials

  • plastic bowl;
  • screwdriver;
  • screws;
  • cutting tool;
  • two plastic bottles.

Step-by-step instruction

  1. U plastic bottle For larger volumes, the upper part is cut off at a distance of at least five centimeters from the lid. It turns out to be a kind of bowl.
  2. A smaller eggplant is attached with screws to the resulting bowl from the inside, thus creating a lid within a lid.
  3. Small holes are made with a knife 5-10 centimeters from the neck of a smaller plastic bottle, making sure that their height does not exceed the depth of the bowl.
  4. The structure is inserted into a pre-prepared frame or screwed to the wall and filled with water.

You can study in more detail the process of making a device with your own hands by watching videos that are available on the Internet. a large number of and who will show you how to do it correctly.

  • plastic water pipe;
  • tap;
  • stub;
  • droplet eliminator and, directly, nipple;
  • a water tank or, if water will be supplied from a water supply system, a pressure regulator;
  • water level regulator.

Step-by-step instruction

  1. We mark areas along the pipe for drilling holes for nipples, maintaining a distance of about 20 cm.
  2. Holes with a diameter of about 9 mm are drilled.
  3. Nipples are screwed into the holes.
  4. One end of the pipe is closed with a plug.
  5. A hose hole is cut at the bottom of the tank.
  6. A thread is inserted onto which the hose is screwed.

This concludes the manufacture of nipple structures with your own hands. As you can see, the work is completely simple. The video presented in the article clearly demonstrates the manufacturing process of similar homemade devices.

How to make a drinker?

You can make automatic drinkers for young broilers with your own hands from any available materials. For this, you can use whatever is at hand, for example, a plastic bottle and a shallow container. small sizes. By the way, such a homemade design can also be used as a feeder.

Video “Making a nipple drinker”

We invite you to watch a fascinating video to learn how to build a homemade structure for feeding young animals.

The full development of chickens must be accompanied by the creation of all necessary conditions. And one of them is the availability of water in sufficient quantities. Birds must be watered so that they do not get wet. For such purposes, special devices were invented. You can buy them, or you can make them yourself.

What to consider

It should be taken into account that the younger generation consumes almost twice as much water per day as feed. That's why homemade devices must differ in capacity. This will help maintain water balance at a certain level, promoting normal development.

The feeling of thirst can lead to irreversible consequences and even to the death of the younger generation. In addition, the chicks constantly feel the desire to swim and wander in the water. For this reason, it is recommended to make safe devices at home so that they cannot be tampered with.

Homemade production

On modern stage A variety of drinking bowls for chickens are being produced. Numerous photos serve as proof of this. However, not all devices are suitable for large number chicks. For this reason, it is better to make them at home with your own hands from scrap materials.

Use of plastic

Using a plastic bottle you can make good device for chickens. And numerous photos and videos serve as excellent proof of this. Creating such a drinking bowl will not be difficult. Among the tools and materials you will need to use a plastic container, a screwdriver, screws, cutting devices. You also need to take two bottles.

To build a water device for chickens with your own hands, you will need to follow some steps:

  1. The bottle should be cut off top part, stepping back 5 cm from the neck. You should get a kind of cup.
  2. The plastic container must be attached with screws to the resulting container from the inside, creating a kind of lid within the lid.
  3. Stepping back 5 cm from the neck of the smaller bottle, it is recommended to make small holes. Their height should not exceed the depth of the large bowl.
  4. The structure must be inserted into a pre-made frame or screwed to the wall with screws. Can be filled with water.

Nipple design

Even household is not different large sizes, there may be a need for automation. It will help simplify the care process. If you plan to breed broilers, you will need to feed them well. And in such a situation, nipple drinkers would be the best option. For broilers, making such a device from scrap materials will not be difficult.

You can build a drinking bowl with your own hands using a pipe, an outlet, a plug, a drip eliminator or nipple, a water tank and a liquid level regulator.

To get a homemade drinking bowl, you need to perform a few fairly simple steps:

  1. Mark the places on the pipe where you need to drill holes for the drip eliminator. There must be at least 20 cm between them. The diameter of the holes is 9 mm.
  2. It is recommended to screw nipples into the holes.
  3. Install a plug on one side of the pipe.
  4. He recommends cutting a hole for the hose at the bottom, inserting a thread into it and screwing the hose itself in directly.

The homemade drinking bowl is completely ready for use. You can find out what nipple devices are by watching the video.

Creating an automatic device

For broilers and other breeds of chickens, an automatic homemade drinker may be required. It’s not difficult to make it yourself. To do this you will need to use a shallow container, 1.5 liter bottle, clamps for fastening.

In order to be received homemade design for broilers, you will need to follow some simple steps:

  1. Attach the clips to your chosen container.
  2. Fill the vessel with water and insert the fasteners so that they are 0.5 cm from the bottom.

At this point, the homemade drinker for broilers and chickens of other breeds is completely ready for use. In order to understand how such devices are created, you can look at numerous photos and videos.

Video "Creating a Device"

How to make a waterer for chickens using a simple plastic container? This will be discussed in some detail in the video. Be sure to watch it.

Independent housekeeping includes a creative streak among solid citizens. To make caring for chickens, and then chickens, as easy as possible, the owners are making a real breakthrough in technical terms. If you don’t have to think too much about the feeder, then a do-it-yourself waterer for chickens sometimes looks like a product of space technology. After all, the quality and constant access to water plays a huge role in the health of the bird.

Main types of drinkers for chickens and requirements for them

There are several types of drinking bowls for chickens:

  1. Vacuum. Allows you to save water consumption. Keep its level constant long time. Suitable for cage and floor keeping, mainly in households.
  2. Nipple drinkers. They are most widespread in fully automated farms and are gradually penetrating into conventional poultry houses. Suitable for chickens in cages and when kept on the floor.
  3. Microcups. They are used, like nipple ones, everywhere. Water is supplied to the cup after the bird hits a special rod with its beak. It moves the valve and water from the reservoir or water supply is supplied to the cup. Unlike nipple drinking, chickens do not need to tilt their heads back to drink.

When placing drinking bowls, especially those made by yourself, pay attention to:

  1. The plane of the nipple drinker should be at an angle of 30–45° relative to the chick’s neck within two days from the moment the chicks hatch. Then, up to 7 days, it is raised higher. So that the angle is 60°. After a week, it is no longer difficult for chickens to drink water, raising their heads 75–85° up in relation to the drinker.
  2. Vacuum, microcup or bell are placed so that the bottom is on the same plane with the surface of the bird’s back. Age doesn't matter.

How to teach chickens to drink

The little chicken, after drying out, is ready to eat and drink on its own. Of course, chicks hatched by a hen receive information about how to behave from an adult hen, but even after incubation no problems arise. As a rule, chickens peck at everything around them out of curiosity. They are attracted by multi-colored grains of food, black dots, and the eyes of their fellow creatures. To accustom a chicken to drinking water, they use their innate curiosity.

They will figure out nipple drinkers themselves: the shiny tip will attract them at the level of instinct. It is important to install the correct nipples (chickens need ones that respond to any push, at 3600). Moisture will definitely get into the beak, and after swallowing it, the chicken will definitely return.

Adult chickens are accustomed to nipple drinkers in the same way, although sometimes you have to loosen the fastening a little so that moisture begins to ooze out.

It’s more difficult with vacuum ones. To attract the chick's attention to the water, tea leaves are thrown into it, which are sure to attract curious chicks. Having pecked a floating particle, the chicken will immediately learn what to do next.

In microcup systems, a ball is placed at the bottom, which moves the stem and minimally opens the valve, providing a drip of water. Then the ball can be removed. It’s complicated, but this drinking bowl also works.

DIY making

In fact, with a little engineering skills and desire, how to make a waterer for chickens is not at all a question.

Nipple

Manufacturing nipple drinkers for chickens is possible with minimum costs time and money. There are several options.

One of the simplest ones to make a waterer for chickens with your own hands will require a plastic bucket, a drill and nipples.

A homemade drinking bowl will provide pets with clean water for a long time if you take a large bucket. For example, for 10 liters. To do this, holes are drilled in its bottom according to the diameter of the nipples, which are then screwed in (3-4 pieces will be needed).

A self-made nipple drinker is suspended at a height convenient for the chickens and filled with water. Benefit: ease of implementation and maintenance. Not quite an automatic drinker, because you have to fill it manually, but still very convenient. This option is also suitable for adult chickens, with small farm volumes.

More difficult option– a homemade drinking bowl made from a pipe using nipples. It assumes the possibility of connecting to centralized water supply or having a large reservoir of water nearby. It is useful for raising broilers - they have a fast metabolism and high water needs.

Materials you will need:

  1. Plastic pipe square section with a side of 22 mm.
  2. Flexible hose.
  3. Clamps (to fix the drinker - 2-3 pcs.).
  4. Adapter from it to round pipe or hose.
  5. Stub.
  6. Nipples complete with drip eliminators. An alternative is a microcup drinker. Quantity calculation: per 1 m of future drinking bowl – 3–5 pcs. At the same time, nipples of 3600 are selected for chickens (provide access to drink from different sides, droplet release of moisture occurs after any impact), for chickens - 1800 (when moving vertically).

The tools you will need are a drill (9 mm) and a tap (a quarter inch in diameter).

To make a nipple shelf with your own hands:

  1. Fix the square pipe.
  2. Mark the location of the nipples (spaces of approximately 20 - 25 cm are sufficient).
  3. Drill holes at the markings and, to ensure that the shelves are airtight and do not leak, sequentially cut threads for the nipples.
  4. Screw in the nipples pre-wrapped with FUM tape. With its help, it is recommended to additionally insulate all joints in the nipple drinker. Then the hand-made structure will not leak.
  5. Attach drip eliminators (if not available, a micro-cup drinker design) under each nipple.
  6. The pipe is closed on one side with a plug, and on the other, a hose selected according to the diameter is put on.

The drinking bowl is ready. All that remains is to secure it with clamps to the wall of the chicken coop and connect the hose to the water source.

If you are raising regular or broiler chickens, the nipple drinker will need to be raised higher as they grow, in accordance with the bird water placement guidelines.

Vacuum drinker

Vacuum drinkers have even more simple design than nipple ones. In general, there are recommendations to provide chickens with this type of automatic drinker for the first 3–4 weeks of life.

A simple version of a homemade drinking bowl will require:

  1. 3 liter jar (its volume is enough for 35 chickens).
  2. Basin or tray with a height of up to 5 cm and a diameter of up to 22 cm.
  3. Aluminum sheet.
  4. Wires.

The sheet is folded into a cuff (diameter 16 cm, height 11.5 cm), whose edges are twisted onto a wire. At approximately 4 cm from one of them, make a hole with a radius of 0.5 cm.

The prepared cuff is put on the jar. Its neck should not reach the edge of the aluminum part by about 4 cm. The jar is filled with water and covered with a tray or basin on top. Carefully but securely grasping the bottom of the jar with one hand and the basin with the other, the finished drinker is turned over and placed on a pre-prepared stand. For up to 10 days, chickens can simply place it on the floor. Afterwards you need to use a grill with an additional tray for splashed moisture. As it grows, wooden blocks are placed under the basin. In such a drinking bowl, the water will always be at the same level.

By analogy, you can make a drinker from a plastic bottle, however, for fast-growing broiler chickens, such a design will not be the most reliable option. Therefore, it is recommended to hang it, lifting it upward as they grow.

To make it yourself you will need:

  • an ordinary plastic bottle with a cap;
  • self-tapping screw;
  • pallet. It requires a bowl, which can be replaced with the bottom cut off from another plastic containers or larger bottles;
  • a clamp or mount suitable in diameter for a plastic bottle to hang the drinker at a distance from the floor.

Making a drinking bowl is quite simple:

  1. The cap is unscrewed from the bottle, which is fixed with a self-tapping screw in the center of the bowl with the thread facing outward.
  2. The bottle is turned upside down and a mount or clamp is put on for hanging the future drinker.
  3. A small hole is made next to the neck, which should be below the level of the sides of the assembled bowl or tray so that the water is always at the same level.
  4. Water is filled into the bottle.
  5. Screw on the lid screwed to the bowl.
  6. Hang it in the chosen place.

A do-it-yourself drinking bowl can significantly save financial investments and delight you with its efficiency and ease of maintenance. Vacuum, nipple or microcup - the choice is yours, but the level of hygiene in the chicken coop can be improved by simply changing the watering system.
