Do-it-yourself TV shelf - a vital necessity for the hostess

Some of us think of household chores as a vacation, but I know for sure that such men have never tried to manage the household on their own. A good housewife spends about half of her “free time” in the kitchen and, of course, longs for communication or “background” in the process of cooking or washing dishes. Fortunately, in the current realities, a TV in the kitchen no longer seems like an excess - otherwise poor women would have to chat for hours on the phone with their friends or involve us as conversational artists. However, placing a TV in the kitchen is not so easy, so mastering such a piece of furniture as a do-it-yourself TV shelf is a vital necessity.

Shelf under the TV - a vital necessity for housewives

Types of TV shelves

For modern flat-panel TVs, wall brackets are provided. This is convenient, but only when the TV screen has a sufficiently large viewing angle - at least 120 degrees. Opposite a window or other light source, such a mount does not justify itself - the display glares, and there is no way to turn the TV. For small "cubes" such shelves are produced, but kinescope televisions are becoming a thing of the past along with bulky video recorders.

Factory model for a kinescope TV

If you set out to make a universal TV shelf with your own hands, then nothing simpler than the classic version of “almost invisible” has yet been invented. Two purchased furniture boards 500x500 mm, an electric jigsaw and a little fuss - an ordinary universal shelf is made in an hour, including installation time.

Classic shelf option

However, in my opinion, the optimal TV shelf model should combine the following functional features:

  • The ability to rotate the screen, that is, not a rigid wall mount, but a classic stand.
  • Corner location. In the kitchen and in small rooms, it is in the corner that it is most convenient to put a TV.
  • Additional shelves for a DVD player (Blu-ray, Transgalactic transmitter, magic ball or whatever) and all sorts of remote controls.
  • The possibility of hidden wiring to all this crap, that is, the absence of a back wall.

Making a TV shelf

As a result, I got such a structure. It can be hung or placed on the floor, which only increases its functionality.

Consider how to make such a shelf for a TV

List of required blanks

If you are faced with the question: "How to make a TV shelf with your own hands?", And you mean a single copy - it makes no sense to bother with buying solid sheets of laminated chipboard, especially two colors. Furniture panels and some tools, combined with an acting head and “straight” arms, will achieve the desired result.

We take furniture panels of standard sizes, 16 mm thick (and the corresponding edging).

Color one:

  • 600x600 mm - 3 pcs. Shelf preparations. The following diagram shows how they need to be cut to get closer to the ideal. An electric jigsaw with a file for a fine cut on wood and chipboard will help you.

Second color:

  • 450x200 mm - rear insert.
  • 450x400 mm - 2 pcs. Sidewalls.

Manufacturing and fixing to the wall

In the case of a shelf, instead of an edge, we use a U-shaped edging. It will also serve as a side to prevent the equipment from slipping. Before snapping the edge, we prime the ends with PVA emulsion and wait for complete drying. Then we apply a "roller" of glue "Moment" on the surface and put on a piping. It is better to cut off the excess edging with a clerical knife, but very carefully so as not to damage the laminate.

The picture shows the slots in the back insert, but you can do without them - there is enough space for wires.

We carry out all screeds on confirmations 5x70 mm - they are ideal for assembling such structures. I remind you that we drill through the plane with a diameter of 8 mm through, and into the ends - 5 mm to a depth of about 60 mm. A one-time confirmation key breaks off after the third scroll, so stock up on a hex bat - it will come in handy in the future, for assembling other furniture.

It is necessary to fasten the resulting structure to the wall competently and forever, if you do not want to ditch all the equipment at the same time. I used dowel-nails 6x120 mm, with which I screwed the shelf to the wall right through the sidewalls. I hid the entire bundle of wires (antenna, electrical wiring and Internet) in the corner cable channel, passing it from the bottom to the middle of the shelf height.

As a matter of fact, I have already explained how to make a TV shelf. However, such a narrow specification of this design upsets me and encourages me to comment. The fact is that this version of the angular design is actually universal. By changing the dimensions and the number of horizontal planes, you can fill the corners of the premises with simple and convenient:

  • Whatnots.
  • Shelves for flowers.
  • Stands for various equipment…

... and other devices, up to spare storage of women's cosmetics and perfumes, as well as keys and mobile phones, on which all kinds of women's cosmetics and perfumes are constantly spilled. All in your hands.
