Making a bag chair with your own hands - a luxurious element of your interior

Often, designers and decorators advise using frameless chairs to save space. These are bright, soft, comfortable chairs in the form of pouffes, bags, giant pears and balls. These chairs are not cheap. Therefore, it will be useful to learn how to make a bag chair with your own hands. It is interesting, beautiful and not as difficult as it seems.

If you have at least some sewing skills, you will master the process. Maybe everything will not work out perfectly the first time, but still you will create a unique bean bag chair.

Chair material

Since this is still furniture, albeit frameless, the fabric for such chairs must be chosen durable and pleasant to the body. Satin, calico, silk will not work - they will very quickly lose their appearance.

• Velours- soft fleecy fabric, velvety to the touch. Looks a bit like faux fur.
• Flock- a fabric similar to velor. If you have small children, then this fabric is a godsend for you. It does not fade, has water-repellent properties, is easy to clean and wash.
• chenille- natural fabric with the addition of synthetic fibers. Due to this, the surface of the fabric does not roll, they are durable and easy to clean.
• Jacquard- like chenille, it contains synthetic fibers. Similar to boucle fabric, but the loops do not unravel if a puff is accidentally formed. The fabric is durable and easy to wash.
• Suede artificial– wear-resistant fabric with pile. "Breathes", does not fade, the fabric is durable and easy to care for.
• Artificial leather- durable and beautiful fabric. Unlike suede, it can be embossed.
• Tapestry- natural fabric with a visible weave. The use of threads of different colors when weaving allows you to create different patterns. The fabric is durable and antistatic.

Having chosen the fabric for sewing a bean bag chair with your own hands, it's time to get to work.

Necessary materials:

• coarse calico or satin 3-3.5 m long;
• fabric for the outer cover - 3-3.5 m;
• zipper 80-100 cm long;
• appliqué fabric;
• chain;
• filler;
• threads, needles, scissors, pins.

Enlarge the pattern below to the size you need. Transfer the pattern pieces to the fabric for the bottom and top cover. You should have a top (small) and a bottom (large) bottom and 6 wedges from each fabric.

Let's move on to the next step. Now we need to sew a bean bag chair.
Sew all the wedges first. Leave a small area unsewn. Sew both bottoms to the stitched wedges.

Do the same for the top case. Cut out the details for the appliqué from the finishing fabric. Sew it on the case. Attach the dog chain to the booth.

Sew a zipper into one of the seams on the wedges so that it can be removed for washing.

Pour the filler into the inner case for 2/3 of the volume. Stitch open area. The seams on the inner cover must be strong so that the filler does not crumble under the pressure of the body.

Slide the padded cover into the outer cover, close the zipper. Bean bag pear with appliqué is ready.

The task is to make a rectangular bean bag chair.

Materials:

• fabric for the inner and outer cover - 2.5-3 m each;
• strong threads, needles, scissors;
• zipper 50-100 cm long;
• filler.

Draw a pattern on paper according to the given dimensions. Transfer the pattern to the fabric.

Stitch the back and bottom, stitching a zipper into the seam. Stitch the sides and back. Then sew the front side to the side parts. Turn out the chair.

In order for the bean bag we sewed with our own hands to keep the shape of a rectangle, make an additional line with a fold of 0.7 cm or lay a piping along all seams. Pour filler into the inner cover for 2/3 of the volume of the chair. Sew up the hole. Pull the upper case over the lower case, fasten the zipper.

To sew such a bean bag, the pattern must be accurate and consist of regular polyhedra: pentagons and hexagons. Pentagons need 12 parts, hexagons - 20 parts. The pattern is shown below. The process of assembling the chair is the same as in the previous descriptions. However, accuracy and patience are important here.

The frameless chair for children differs only in size. Well, the fabric can be taken in more cheerful colors. If an adult chair has a height of 100-120 cm, the lower bottom is 30 cm in diameter and the upper one is 14-15 cm, then the dimensions of a child seat are 60 cm / 25 cm / 11 cm, respectively.

Otherwise, it is no different from a large chair. To prevent the child from being scratched by the lock, sew a covering bar to the fabric. You can make a fun applique with the image of your favorite cartoon characters on the top case.

A sewn bean bag chair with your own hands can be of any shape you wish: elongated, rectangular, in the form of a pear, a bean bag ball. And any size - for adults and children. Thinking of a children's bean bag, keep in mind that only a child can sit in it. But in an armchair according to an adult pattern, it will be convenient for all family members: from small to large.
