Treatment of the log house with protective equipment. How to process the ends of the log house How to process the ends

Hello everybody!

When we thought about how to cover a wooden house from profiled timber, we went to a retail outlet where they sell Teknos products. This product was recommended by the builders.

After monitoring prices, they decided to cover the house with a more budgetary antiseptic Tex (review), but we did not find a special tool for processing ends either in chain stores or in retail outlets with paint and varnish products, so it was decided to buy Teknol JRM.

Do I need a special tool to cover the ends?

Some builders - "professionals in wooden housing construction" argue that cracking of wood is an inevitable process and it is not possible to deal with it. Others recommend painting a wooden house as soon as possible and this will keep the wood from cracking. Such advice is ineffective, since modern paints and varnishes for wood form a vapor-permeable coating, and painted wood retains its ability to breathe. If painted wood continues to breathe, absorb and release moisture, then how will this help in the fight against cracks? Practice shows that numerous cracks also appear on painted houses.

About TEKNOL JRM:

To effectively combat cracks in wooden houses, the Finnish concern TEKNOS (TEKNOS) has developed a special acrylic compound TEKNOL JRM (TEKNOL JRM), which, unlike conventional paints and varnishes, has a unique moisture-proofing property. After application of "TEKNOL JRM" (TEKNOL JRM), a moisture-proof coating is formed on the ends, which blocks the access of moisture to the capillary channels of the wood. As a result, the end and side moisture exchange is leveled, internal stresses are reduced and the tendency of wood to crack is significantly reduced.

Everyone has their own opinion whether it is worth treating the ends with a special tool or not, we decided to process:

1. in order to prevent/reduce cracking;

2. highlighting the ends with a different color, the appearance of the house changes.

PURCHASE

The JRM base was on sale, which could be called in the suggested colors. Since the roof of the house is chocolate-colored, they decided to make the ends in color.

For a one-story house with 13 log ends, 3 liters of JRM were taken.

APPLICATION

The tool was applied with a brush, it is well distributed, has a covering structure.

Since the work was carried out on the street, the smell did not cause any discomfort.

The house began to be assembled in mid-February, which means it is from the winter forest, not as damp as in summer.

The ends were covered in early June. It took 1.5 liters of JRM for 13 log ends. After the seams are sealed with sealant, it is planned to apply a second layer.

I will not tell the application process, as they will tell you about it when buying.

Below is a photo taken a few days after application.

And this photo was taken in the second half of August (all also one layer):

To protect the walls of the house from the influence of precipitation, sunlight, exposure to wind, insects and mold, the walls of the log house are impregnated with special protective solutions and painted. In this way, the tree is protected from darkening, cracking of the ends of the logs, and the release of resin from the cut knots.

When choosing a method of coloring natural wood after grinding, they try to preserve its natural properties, leave the opportunity for the tree to independently regulate the humidity in the house, and maintain the vapor permeability of the walls.

Sometimes only the surface of the walls outside is painted. For example, such a finish is enough for an oak bath. The walls are not painted in order to avoid harmful fumes inside the sauna under the influence of heat and moisture and to preserve the vapor permeability of the wood. The walls of the residential building are processed inside.

When can you start painting a log house?

Builders do not advise painting the outside of log cabins that are not two years old after construction. During the first and second years, the house will shrink and dry.

The processing of the log house from the outside begins with the ends of the logs. They are painted immediately after construction is completed. This is done to even out the loss of moisture in the logs because the ends dry faster than the sides. At the same time, the walls are covered with an antiseptic to protect the tree from pests and fungus.

The inner surface of the walls is painted when the moisture content of the wood reaches 19-20%. This period begins six months after the construction of the house. The moisture level indicator is measured with special devices - moisture meters for wood. When the humidity reaches the desired value, the wood will absorb the primer well after sanding, and the paint will lie flat and last a long time.

Painting the walls of the log cabin outside

Advantages of painting the outer walls of a log house:

  1. The walls are protected from pests.
  2. Logs are resistant to corrosion, decay and fungus.
  3. The fire-fighting properties of the house are improved.
  4. Wood does not darken and does not crack.
  5. You will give your home a modern look with different shades of paint, and you can also decorate all outbuildings in the same style.

How to paint a log house

  1. We clean the surface of the logs from the outside. The walls must be thoroughly washed from dust. To do this, use a soft brush and a damp cloth. It is not necessary to water the walls abundantly with water. Before the next step, they should dry well.
  2. . The walls must be smooth after sanding so that the paint lays evenly. The surface of wooden logs is treated with sandpaper. Start with coarse-grained sandpaper and finish with fine-grained sandpaper. You can speed up the work if you use a grinder with an emery wheel for grinding.
  3. We cover the walls with protective compounds. First, fire retardant impregnation is applied, after that - bioprotection.
  4. Each product covers the wall in 2 layers and waits for complete drying. The instructions for the paint indicate the exact drying time of one layer.
  5. Apply a water repellent finish. For this purpose, paints or special protective mixtures are used. After each coat of paint, the wall is allowed to dry for a couple of days. The first layer must be done with a brush. Subsequent layers can be applied with a spray gun, protecting the eyes with goggles and the respiratory tract with a respirator.

Modern industry produces paint materials that initially contain insect repellents and fire-fighting impregnations. The use of such mixtures can significantly speed up the painting of external walls after grinding.

How to choose material for painting exterior walls

When choosing how to paint a log house, you need to select materials that, after drying, will retain the natural ability of wood to regulate the level of humidity in the room.

Also, paint materials are selected in accordance with the design decision. The exterior design of the house should match its style. A house that looks like an old manor can be painted in light colors: white, blue. An old-style log house can be dark in color with white ends. Most often, houses are painted with transparent varnishes or paints to match the wood from which they are built.

Consider the advantages and disadvantages of paints for wood.

Types of paints for wood

Type of paint Advantages disadvantages
Oily They have an affordable price, protect well from moisture, give the surface a glossy sheen Form a vapor-tight film on the surface, toxic, the coating is short-lived
Alkyd based paints protect from moisture Toxic and short lived
Water soluble acrylic paints for wood They allow the walls to "breathe", protect the surface well, are non-toxic, retain their original color for a long time. Apply in 3 coats at long intervals to dry
Acrylate resin scuba diving Non-toxic, colorless coating Serve less than paint
Glazing impregnations, oil-wax Protect the texture and color of wood A short period of protection, on oak wood they leave indelible stains. Only suitable for spruce and pine.

If "breathable" acrylic paint is chosen for processing, then it is necessary to ensure that, before applying it, the vapor permeability of the walls is not damaged by antiseptics or an alkyd-based primer with white spirit. All means by which the wall is processed after grinding must be vapor-permeable and environmentally friendly. Suitable primers and antiseptics without organic solvents based on:

  • acrylic and acrylate;
  • wax;
  • natural oils.

They must not form an airtight film on the painted wall.

How to paint a log house on the ends of logs

Cracks at the ends appear because in these places the tree quickly loses moisture. To prevent cracking, the ends of the logs are painted over. The coating must be vapor permeable. Its function is to slow down the loss of moisture and protect the tree from the adverse effects of the external environment.

The ends of the log house are sealed with paint immediately after the construction of the building. For these purposes, lime, water-based paint or a special coating for the ends of logs is most often used. To paint the ends after grinding, you need to carefully, in 3-4 layers.

How to paint the interior walls of a log house

Are acrylic and alkyd paints for interior work. They paint the walls from top to bottom, carefully brushing over each log with a brush.

Do not use outdoor paints. It is not advisable to use them inside and is dangerous to health.

How to paint the walls of the bath from the inside

A special approach requires painting the walls of the bath. Logs inside the house are constantly exposed to heat and moisture. Some types of wood do not stain at all, but over time the surface of the walls darkens, so it is better to protect them.

The paint must withstand a temperature range from -25 to +120 degrees. Another requirement for paint quality is elasticity. This property ensures that the coating layer does not crack. Cracks lead to a decrease in the protection of the wall surface from the influence of moisture.

Most often, when processing interior walls after grinding, water-based varnishes are used. They protect the surface from moisture and decay, preserving the color and aroma of natural wood.

Foreign and Russian manufacturers produce special products for coloring Finnish saunas with hot air and Russian baths with high humidity. These products include antibacterial components that protect the surface of the walls from fungus. If the paint is chosen correctly, then drops of moisture flow down the walls without being absorbed into them.

The shelves in the bath are covered with oil or wax impregnation. The mixture is carefully rubbed into the surface to protect the wood from cracking, darkening and bacteria. Lacquer cannot be used for these purposes, because the wood will heat up in the sauna so much that it will be impossible to sit on it.

Thus, in order to preserve the attractive appearance of natural log walls and preserve the ability of wood to regulate the level of humidity in the house, it is advisable to use water-based paints. When preparing the walls after grinding for the next stage of processing, carefully select mixtures for bioprotection. Such impregnations should not create a vapor-tight film on the surface. The same requirements apply to the means to improve the fire resistance of wooden walls.

Treatment of timber with impregnations against cracking of the timber and the formation of cracks on the walls of the timber is possible both during the assembly of the house and the bath, and when finishing the house or the bath from the timber. When making a choice among the many finishing moisture-proof decorating impregnations on oil, wax, varnishes and paints, try to CONSIDER their functionality of protection not only as a decorating paint or varnish, but also their practical ability to protect walls from a bar from cracking, protect the bar from drying out and cracking.
It is necessary to treat timber from cracks with impregnations that work according to a special algorithm adapted to these phenomena and which can do this effectively, combining not only their main purpose as a finish deodorizing impregnation for wood, wood paint or wood varnish for timber, but also how to effectively remedy for cracking wood.
On the external walls made of timber, due to the design features of the timber section, there is an UNUNIFORM DENSITY of wood on its surface. From this difference in the surface densities of wood along the entire length of the beam, there is a different drying rate for each individual section of the beam, which leads to deformation, cracking, delamination on the beam, the formation of cracks in the house and bathhouse built from their beam.

How to treat timber from cracking. How to process the ends of the log house and baths from drying out, cracks and cracking.

Meaning how to treat the timber from cracking so that the timber does not crack and by choosing the right impregnation from cracks on the timber, you can not only preserve the beautiful appearance of a wooden house, but also extend the time until the necessary periodic renewal of the finishing impregnation, as well as, if not 100% get rid of from the formation of cracking of a log house and a bath on its walls, then to SIGNIFICANTLY reduce the process of their appearance and reduce the number, depth and frequency of cracks on the walls of your house.
Worthy, TIME-TESTED, natural and INEXPENSIVE option for impregnation to protect timber from cracking, impregnation to protect timber from cracks with the possibility of ACTIVE control and alignment of the surface density of wood on timber and logs are OIL-WAX impregnations or impregnations on oil and wax, i.e. MASLOVOSK ANTA.

A house from a bar NOT PROCESSED with cracking impregnation. The formation of cracks in the beam.

To answer the question of how to treat the timber from cracking so that the timber does not crack, as well as how to treat the timber from cracking, how to treat the ends of the log house and baths from drying out, cracking and cracking, we invite you to consider PROVEN in practice by our proven PARTNERS whom we trust , house-building companies and brigades engaged in the construction of houses and baths from logs and timber on an ongoing basis classic INEXPENSIVE, safe and very effective impregnations with natural linseed oil and beeswax to protect logs, timber, ends from cracking and reduce the likelihood of cracking on the log and bar Maslovosk Anta .

Almost every fire retardant works according to this principle: in the presence of hot air, an open flame, the fire retardant layer releases a substance in the form of foam. This foam prevents oxygen from getting inside and prevents the fire from spreading across the wood surface.
The processing of the logs of the log cabin of the bath should be carried out with special tools that can withstand temperature drops up to 110ºС. The best option would be compositions labeled "luxury".

There are also flame retardants that form a salt film on the surface. These compounds give only a temporary effect, and then the wood must be treated with special solutions.

The next stage of protection should be antiseptic treatment. The purchased product is used to treat both external and internal walls. Experts say that the treatment of a log house with an antiseptic directly depends on its type. outside should be carried out with a hard-to-wash antiseptic.

Its composition necessarily includes synthetic and natural oils. Its formula protects the structure from moisture ingress. The product does not wash out, but after application it has a long drying time. Washable products can be used inside the house. They do not provide high levels of protection against moisture, but it is not needed.

Treatment of the log house after installation with antiseptics is carried out in several stages. Each subsequent layer should be applied only after the previous one has completely dried. Experts emphasize that antiseptic treatment cannot be carried out in rainy weather. To apply the composition, you can use a spray gun or a brush. If a brush is used, then it is better to paint over with a colored tool in order to see all the painted areas.

When choosing a treatment agent, you must carefully read its composition. It is preferable to choose oil-based formulations, they have always provided excellent results.

Treatment of the log house with an antiseptic can be done with a product based on beeswax or wood resin. There are also synthetic compounds on the market. They give an excellent result, but the presence of preservatives can adversely affect the health of people who will live in the house.

How not to make a mistake with the manufacturer of protective equipment for the log house

How to process a log house and how to make it safe and reliable for a long time? This question has become relevant for many, because the construction market offers a huge amount of materials.
Experts have made several rules, following which you will never make a fatal mistake:

Many builders recommend using copper sulfate for processing. This tool is the best option for fighting mold, bacteria, pests and fire. Processing with copper sulphate is inexpensive and accessible to many.

Log house treated with copper sulphate Experts say that a log house treated with such a tool is environmentally friendly, does not crack or rot for a long time. Choosing blue vitriol as an antiseptic, the master will preserve the natural color of the tree. There are several options for applying any of the selected antiseptics:

The processing of a log cabin made of rounded logs has its own characteristics. Due to its natural origin, the material quickly and easily absorbs moisture. In order for a log to be of high quality, it is necessary to monitor the condition of the material at each stage, from its harvesting, transportation, and ending with the finished building. Since the rounded log is the best home for many pests, fungi and mold, it must be treated systematically. Whichever version of the antiseptic is chosen, it must be used with a certain frequency.

Wood for the construction of a bath, the secrets of its protection and processing

The stages of processing a log cabin for a bath have their own characteristics. For a bath, it is recommended to use a log cabin made of coniferous or hardwood.

Today, pine is especially popular among customers. Its cost is low, while it is little deformed and practically no cracks form on it. The natural release of resin allows you to protect the structure from heat and temperature changes. But because of the resin, internal processing and additional cladding of the premises will be needed. Experts have compiled several requirements for a log cabin for a bath, which will help you choose the best option:

  • wood should not release a lot of resin;
  • minimal chance of spontaneous combustion;
  • pleasant aroma after heating;
  • ability to withstand temperature fluctuations.

Through transverse cuts, the natural moisture that remains in the wood after the tree is cut down, comes out faster than from the sides of the trunk. If the ends are not covered in a timely manner, then shrinkage will occur unevenly. The contrast will be too significant - the wet inside of the trunk and overdried ends. In addition to the cracks that appear, the log begins to bend, and the log house begins to warp. It is enough to look at materials that have been lying in the open air for a long time to be convinced of the correctness of this statement. Without processing ends:

  • lose their natural color - quickly darken;
  • become infected with a fungus - first black stripes and spots appear, and then mold;
  • eaten by insects and rodents;
  • quickly turn into dust.

And if ownerless logs can simply not be used in construction, then no one will dismantle the laid crowns until the log house finally becomes unusable. Preventive and planned measures will help extend the life of the building. Particular attention should be paid to the ends of the log cabins, which are protected and processed by means that do not impede the process of air exchange in the wood structure. This characteristic of the composition is very important, since when the natural exit from the moisture log is closed, it will begin to rot from the inside. It must be understood that the side of the trunk will not provide an opportunity for optimal disposal of the internal dampness of the material.

It is strictly not allowed to cover the ends of not yet completely dried wood with bituminous mastics.

What to process

In the rural outback, the log ends of the log house are smeared with lime, which protects against moisture, mold, and insects. This is considered a classic option, but today it is used less and less. On sale there are more modern means of domestic production, in no way inferior to foreign counterparts. Is that their cost is somewhat lower and more accessible to most consumers.

We list some antiseptics that are designed to treat the ends of log logs:

  • BIOTOR - significantly reduces the formation of cracks, limits the impregnation of the ends with moisture, eliminates the distortion of fibers during the drying of wood;
  • NEOMID TOR PLUS - forms the thinnest, but integral water-repellent and "breathing" film on the surface, emphasizes the texture of the cut of the tree, protects against rot, protects against fungal infection;
  • SENEZH TOR - penetrates into the wood structure, allows air to pass through, but is a barrier to moisture penetration, does not allow the appearance of cracks and mold, has a long period of active action, practically does not change the natural color of the wood.

All of the ingredients listed are environmentally friendly. They are certified, and therefore do not contain prohibited and harmful components. Timely processing of the ends saves the log from uneven shrinkage, which implies a more stable shrinkage of the walls of a wooden house.

The process of protecting the ends of the log house

First of all, after the construction of the log house is completed, the logs are trimmed, aligning the protrusions of the parallel crowns in one vertical plane. Works are carried out with the help of a benzo- or electric saw. As a result, the facade acquires a neat, finished look, and the ends - a flat, well-groomed surface.

Trimming requires experience, a steady hand and maximum precision.

After leveling the ends, they begin to grind them, or clean up the bumps. At this stage, they get rid of not only visual defects, but also dark spots that predetermine the appearance of a fungal infection. In the work they use a grinder, or a grinder equipped with a special nozzle. Experts recommend grinding the ends only in dry weather, and after several sunny days. Comparatively dry wood is processed more easily, and a trailing pile of wet fibers does not form on its surface.

After cleaning the ends from wood dust, impregnation is carried out. This process involves the application of a protective preparation that saves the logs from drying out too quickly and from insufficient shrinkage. He, as it were, is a balancing regulator between the dryness and moisture content of wood. The composition is applied with a wide brush twice, giving a temporary margin between layers for the possibility of high-quality absorption of the drug into the structure of the log. The mixture must be smeared abundantly, without stretch, otherwise all efforts will be in vain. It should be understood that the end part of the log has a greater absorbency than its side surfaces. Given this requirement, the drug is recommended to be purchased with a margin.

Additionally, the ends are treated with special "breathing" sealants. They are made on an acrylic basis, and are intended specifically for cross sections of wood. each region has its own brands of such products, so listing them is pointless. In the nearest construction supermarket, managers will be able to advise the most popular sealant. But it would be better to take an interest in the reviews of masters working in a particular area. They can be easily found on the Internet.
