After sanding, wipe the table with a damp cloth to remove any remaining dust.

Table restoration process step by step

1. Now we can take on the design of the coffee table. First, we need to lay the ground on the surface of the table. To do this, we use an acrylic primer. It is needed so that the paint that will be applied in the future is more evenly distributed on our product.

We prime with a brush carefully and wait about half an hour until the primer dries.

3. Now we take the drawing. In our version, this is a photograph. Dip the drawing for 30 seconds in a bowl of water.

It is very important not to overexpose the drawing, as the paper may be damaged. We take the photo out of the water and put it face down on the plastic file.

4. Since our photo paper is thick, we carefully remove the extra layers of paper so that the picture remains intact. Then apply PVA glue to the photo with a brush.

5. Now carefully turn over the file with the photo stuck to it, put it in the right place on the tabletop. Smooth the pattern through the file so that it lies evenly. And only after that we remove the file.

6. We take white acrylic paint and with a brush with hard bristles we draw the fields along the contour of the drawings. We try to keep the brush at one angle, as the bristles leave stripes. Then leave the table to dry for about 1 hour.

7. We decided to further decorate the corners of our table with a stencil. To do this, you need to attach the stencil to the corner of the tabletop and use a brush with black acrylic paint to walk over it. Hold the brush in a vertical position so that the paint does not flow under the stencil and is not smeared.

8. Now you can remove the stencil. Leave the table to dry the drawing for 1 hour.

9. And finally, after the paint has dried, you can apply a finishing acrylic varnish to fix the drawings. We also apply varnish with a brush.

10. Finally, the restoration of the table is coming to an end. To be able to use the table, it needs to dry. Let dry in a well-ventilated area overnight. After the expiration of this time, use it to your health!

If possible, it is desirable to carry out the processing of old wooden parts separately, after carefully separating the table top and underframe. The tabletop is sanded again, after which it is painted with paint suitable for furniture and covered with 2-3 layers of colorless varnish. This operation is carried out without haste, with keeping each layer of paint and varnish until they are completely dry.

Another part of the table - the underframe - often requires even more attention than the tabletop. After many years of operation, it may have cracks in parts and serious fractures. REMEMBER. After the paint layer dries, we process it with fine-grained sandpaper, after which our paint will not leave smudges and streaks.

Sometimes, as a coloring option, a Marily water composition is used. It is also applied in several layers, achieving the desired depth of tone.

After our table has been restored, we will now consolidate the work done. We take the wax and melt it in a water bath. When it cools down a bit, apply it with a wide brush to the surface and to all other components. Then, after drying, gently but thoroughly rub it with a soft cloth. Repeat the procedure until our coffee table is perfectly smooth.

Then we re-distribute the varnish. At this final point, it is worth paying attention to the choice of varnish. If we set the goal of a bright saturated shine, then we choose one of the varieties of glossy varnish. If we need to get a calm effect, then we opt for velvet and matte varnishes. Fortunately, now the choice of varnish coatings is great.

Well, our old coffee table has been completely restored. It is very nice when things returned to their ideal form, and they managed to restore it on their own.

Hello, I decided to write about how we (my wife and I) restored the old table. I write for the first time, so do not judge strictly. And initially, we did not think to post, so some photos are missing. However, I hope you find it interesting.

So what was and what has become:

1. Unfortunately, there are no first pictures. But to imagine what happened, I will describe. The table was painted with paint sickeningly familiar from school days, it was the color of the Soviet floor. And painted in 3-4 coats of paint. The tabletop was wooden, massive, also in this paint. When they tore off the fluffy chipboard bottom, they found 8 mummies of red cockroaches. :) Nails, dirt and other things were also present. The tabletop was removed and the paint began to peel off. Actually, after tearing off part of the paint, they began to fix the process.

2. Tore off the paint with a drill with an iron nozzle. This process is dusty, boring, and generally extremely unpleasant. To get what is below in the photo, it took me 3 weeks, so easy in the evenings and with weekends for rains.

4. After the putty has dried, we carefully sand the table again. We repeat the procedure depending on the irregularities and cracks. In the photo, as you can see, putty of different colors. We just ran out of white, the paint will cover everything))

5. Now a small digression. Tabletop. We did it quickly and immediately. I tore off the paint from it in a matter of seconds with a grinder with a skin (well, such a disk). Then he removed the top layer of wood with an electric planer, it turned out uneven, but the result suited us :) Then the tabletop was painted, glued with PVA napkins around the edges, and covered with two layers of ordinary parquet varnish (before applying the second layer, sanded).

7. Next we paint. At first, it happened, they painted it with ordinary acrylic paint (on the tabletop it was also the same only with a caller) for ~ 150 rubles, then sanded again (in general, the more often the sanding the better;)). Then we ran out of paint and I bought an expensive white water-based acrylic enamel, ~350r. costs. When we painted it, we realized that it was not necessary to cover it with varnish :)

8. The next step is drawing the pattern. As with the countertop, everything is done simply. Beautiful napkins are taken, we separate the top layer with a pattern, glue it carefully with PVA.

9. Now we make the bottom. We decided to make from MDF panels (remained after repair). At first, I just screwed it on the screws from below, but this way the edge was visible and spoiled the whole look. Therefore, inside I screwed the bars and the panels were already placed on top. Furniture magnets were screwed into the hole, where apparently there was a box. We decided that there will be a cover on magnets :)

10. Cover. From plywood (skinned, primed and painted), a piece from an old curtain (we improvise), and pieces of iron for magnets.
