It is convenient when the lock is sold immediately with handles on the bar. You don’t need to buy anything else and wonder whether it’s the center-to-center distance, whether the plank fits, or whether the shades match. Palladium has more than 50 mortise kits for entrance and interior doors. This article contains a short dossier on them.

1.Mortise locks with aluminum handles

Models: AL 1613 (pictured), AL 1618, AL 1703, AL 1708, AL 1853, AL 1858.

These kits are united by the material of the handle: the lever is made of aluminum, the bar is made of steel. We recommend installing them on any doors except those leading to the street. Still, aluminum light metal, soft and anti-practical. In conditions high humidity(precipitation, fog, proximity of bodies of water) the decor coating is rubbed more intensively. In a year or two the pen will become stained.

How are these mortise kits different from each other? First of all, the design of the handle, the center distance (61.5 mm, 70 mm, 85 mm; see the second and third numbers in the model name) and the distance of the key from the end plate (40, 45 mm). All values ​​correspond to standards, which makes our products interchangeable with the products of many other brands.

The bodies of all locks are made of galvanized steel, the bolt and latch (universal - for right and left doors) are made of TsAM. Testing has shown that the latch and bolt assemblies can withstand at least 150,000 cycles. If we assume that a family of three uses the castle, then this is at least 40-50 years without wear and tear.

The delivery set includes a 5-pin cylinder of European standard 30 x 30 mm. Its body is cast from aluminum, and the core and pins are made from brass. The latter guarantees protection against corrosion, pinpoint accuracy of the pins, which means smooth turning and higher secrecy of the mechanism. The cylinder has hardened drilling inserts. And if you want to protect it from being knocked out, pulled out, or putting matches and wood chips inside, simply install an armor plate.

2. Mortise locks with TsAM handles

Models: 1702, 1703, 1706, 1707, 1852, 1853, 1856, 1857 (pictured).

This line of mortise kits is a little more expensive, but more reliable. It's about the material door handles. The TsAM is as strong as low-carbon steel, and when you grab the lever, you feel that your palm is squeezing real strong metal. Of course, it is impossible to tear out or twist such a handle.

Another advantage of TsAM pens is practicality. In this sense, they are close to brass: they maintain a uniform coating for years, even if the environment is constantly damp or hot. For entrance doors, including metal ones, there is no better option. For internal ones too: TsAM is pleasant to touch, it feels warmer to the touch than aluminum.

The key installation parameters in the DsAM line are standard: center distance – 70 mm, 85 mm, backset – 40, 45 mm. The selection of handles has been expanded. If in the aluminum series there were only two models and both were curved, now there are four of them and for every taste: curved and straight, smooth and perforated.

The lock body is stamped from steel and galvanized for corrosion protection. The universal latch and deadbolt assemblies are rated for 200,000+ operations and will outlast the door under standard load. The mechanism is still the same - a 5-pin brass Euro cylinder in an aluminum case 30 x 30 mm with an English key. The level of anti-vandalism is basic (there is protection against drilling), but it can be upgraded by purchasing an additional armor plate.

3. To replace the SHO-25 lock (BZAL, Baranovichi)

In the 90s, every entrance had doors with a SHO-25 push-button lock (including those of the author of the text and his neighbor in the stairwell). There were two problems with the castle from the very beginning. Firstly, any clown with a screwdriver could open it in 10 seconds. Secondly, the huge hole for the button forever tied the owner to BZAL products.

Then everything only got worse. If the “Baranovichi” of the Yeltsin era served for 10-20 years, then those released in the 00s and 10s lasted at most 3 years. All due to the transition from metal to plastic where possible and impossible, including in the latch assembly. Think about it: the castle that in Russia is built into steel doors, always had a flimsy silumin cylinder, and now it also has a plastic latch!

For those who are tired of the antediluvian “Belarusian”, we offer the Palladium 460-25 set. This is an analogue of the Baranovichi SHO-25 in terms of installation dimensions, and at the same time a pass into the world of locks with a Euro-cylinder. And although the Eurocylinder itself is not included in the package, it can be purchased from us or at any hardware store.

One caveat: after changing the lock, the door will be locked from the outside with a key. But this is even a plus, because the button tends to fail. Common reason replacement of SHO-25: the man slammed the door, mechanically pressed the button, and then realized that the keys were left inside.

About the life of the latch and bolt: both will withstand at least 200,000 operating cycles. That's over 50 years of service in the home of a family of three. The latch itself (as, by the way, the handles) is universal.

4. To replace the lock ZV4-3.01 (Zenit-Auto, Dimitrovgrad)

ZV4-3.01 (aka DAAZ, “VAZ castle”) is a lottery: it can work for either 10 years or two months. The same goes for his countless clones.

What annoyed me the most about DAAZ were the handles. In older locks (pre-2013), they are not spring-loaded and sag very quickly. Another vulnerability is the cylinder. It is made of ultra-fragile silumin and often fails if you lock the door while lifting the handle. Opening the lock is more difficult than “Baranovichi”, but not much: 2-3 minutes is enough.

As in the case of SHO-25 and ZAZ, the VAZ lock has its own installation holes, which are far from generally accepted standards. Thus, after the lock broke down, there was a choice: either ZV4-3.01 again, or a new door.

Get rid of DAAZ addiction without purchasing new door Can. In our line there are two cylinder locks with halyard handles - ZV 4301/03 and ZV 4301/08. They have the same mounting holes as ZV4-3.01: they took out the old lock and installed ours in its place. Another obvious advantage is modern, not Soviet design.

ZAZ Motor Sich and VAZ/DAAZ are textbook examples of the fact that “cult” does not mean “reliable”. Many who contacted these domestic retro locks were faced with the problem of breakage and the search for a replacement.

It will not be possible to replace these locks with standard ones due to their exotic dimensions and installation dimensions. Fortunately, there are our models Palladium 04-6 and Palladium 4301, which ideally fit into the place of a ZAZ and VAZ/DAAZ, respectively. For some time they were sold only in assembly with handles on the bar. Now we are again releasing these lock cases separately.

Center distance – 72 mm, backset – 55 mm

1.1. About the original lock ZAZ ZV 4-6 “Motor Sich”

Along with SHO-25 and VAAZ/DAAZ, the Zaporozhye ZAZ lock is one of the door-lock relics of post-perestroika Russia. It wasn't in the 90s staircase, where at least one of this trio did not live. Moreover, ZAZ was even molded onto steel doors, although the instructions stated only compatibility with wooden ones.

Nowadays, the flimsy and technically backward ZAZ ZV 4-6 is a bait for a thief and the breadwinner of lock replacement services. More and more often it is found in vestibules, utility rooms and on gates, but even on the doors to the apartment, no, no, it will flash.

We repeat: one of global problems ZAZ Motor Sich – non-standard landing distances. Most mortise locks are designed for a center distance of 85 mm and a backset of 50 mm, but here they are 72 mm and 55 mm, respectively. That is, the manufacturer condemned you to life according to the principle “once I installed a ZAZ - now I install it every time.”

Today, if you want to replace your broken mortise lock ZAZ ZV 4-6, but are not ready to completely remodel the door, you do not have to return to the miracle of Zaporozhye engineering. You can buy a more reliable analogue with the same mounting dimensions. For example, here.

1.2. Than our door lock better than ZAZ Motor Sich and its clones

And in the Zaporozhye castle, many details are made of fragile and slightly crumbling silumin. Latch, bushing with a square for the handle - and those from it. This is why the original ZAZ tends to jam, and sometimes even breaks down within 1 year. And that’s why this happens much less often with ours.

Center distance – 55 mm, backset – 55 mm

There is such an old cylinder lock - ZV 4-3.01. It is popularly known as VAZ, Zenit, DAAZ, sometimes it is called the “Ulyanovsk Castle” (based on the location of the DAAZ plant - in Dimitrovgrad, Ulyanovsk region). Strictly speaking, all this different brands, sometimes even various modifications with the addition of some minor functions. But in terms of dimensions and landing distances, the lock bodies of VAZ, DAAZ and Zenit are identical and interchangeable.

Our model 4301 is 100% analogue of the family door locks ZV 4-3 according to installation dimensions. That is, the replacement itself is a piece of cake: they took the body of the VAZ lock out of the door and put ours in its place. The handles and cylinder can be rearranged from the old model. If anything, decent larvae are sold here. – however, for now only for model 4-3.01 (on a trapezoidal bar).

2.1. About the original VAZ (DAAZ) lock

The model confidently repeats the fate of the Zaporozhye ZAZ: the same scenery (Russia and CIS countries), the same peak time (90s and early 00s). As in the case of ZAZ, buyers of ZV 4-3 preferred not to notice the word “wooden” in the instructions and put a lock on everything entrance doors basically.

This is the drama. For its direct tasks - keeping the door to a conventional storage room closed - the lock is not bad. Especially in the DAAZ modification: in terms of clarity of the mechanism, it bypassed the Zenit variation on the ZV 4-3.01 theme. But the security properties of all these VAZs and DAAZs are zero. The case is weak, additionally not protected at all, and the inside is coated with oil almost to the edges, which speaks volumes about the quality of the device. Many key components, including the latch and bushing with a square for the handle, are made of silumin, so they break quickly. The larva included in the kit has poor secrecy (only class II), the quality of casting and tolerances is inappropriate. Opening a lock without a power tool takes an average thief 1-5 minutes.
