Do-it-yourself pleated blinds from wallpaper. How to make blinds from wallpaper with your own hands

Today I want to tell you how to make paper blinds with your own hands. The process of making paper blinds is not complicated at all, and the result is always wonderful. Paper curtains are beautiful, inexpensive and functional.

There is information on the net that pleated paper came to us from the USA, that they were first made there. But I want to tell you that this is not so. The first paper curtains were made by women in the post-war period in the Soviet Union. The times were difficult, and women had to figure out how to make their home beautiful and cozy using improvised means. In this way, they decorated not only.
Of course, you can purchase ready-made blinds and not bother with their manufacture. But shops can offer you blinds in just a few colors.

On your own, you will be able to embody many interesting ideas in the design of windows. There is also a difference between purchased paper blinds - you need to lift them with your hands and fix them with a special clamp.

For work we need:

  • paper (tracing paper,);
  • scissors, clerical knife;
  • Double-sided tape;
  • pencil;
  • cord or braid;
  • stopper or clerical clip;
  • long line.

Progress

I have a few rolls of wallpaper left over from a previous renovation. I decided to use them for making blinds. The window in the kitchen is divided into two unequal parts. For most of the window, I had to increase the width of the wallpaper used, and for a smaller part of the window, I cropped the wallpaper. The length of the wallpaper must be taken more than the length of the window by about 30 cm.

The most tedious and long is the marking and bending of future blinds. I made a fold width of 3.5 cm (you can make another width of the folds, at your discretion). In order for the wallpaper to fold well and hold the folds, I carried out the markup, slightly pressing, with scissors.

You can speed up the work if you find a long ruler so that its width is equal to the width of the fold.

If the ends of the "accordion" are not even, they must be cut with a clerical knife.

I secured the “accordion” with clerical clips and left it overnight so that the paper “remembers” the desired shape.

The most difficult thing for me turned out to be making a hole for the cord. The thickness of the "accordion" did not allow the use of a hole punch. Then I asked a neighbor-master to drill a hole with a drill. The job was done in less than a minute.

As a cord, I used a thin white ribbon. I secured it with double sided tape. Below, to hold the paper blinds, I used a stopper. I also glued the top of the blinds with double-sided tape.

Since I live on the first floor, I did not fix the blinds below in a semicircle. My paper blinds cover the window glass completely.

Paper blinds have become very popular. Many needlewomen began to make paper blinds for their apartments. Here is a look at the photo of paper blinds made by craftswomen of a handicraft site.

If after the repair you have several rolls of wallpaper left, you can make blinds from them with your own hands, following simple step-by-step instructions and photos. Self-made blinds are an excellent solution for saving the budget and using the leftover finishing materials. After spending just a few hours of your time, you will be able to make beautiful, original, stylish blinds.

Advantages and disadvantages of paper blinds

Homemade paper curtains have several advantages:

  • Low material cost compared to real blinds. Often, wallpaper does not have to be spent at all, as they remain after repair. But even if you buy an expensive roll of wallpaper, it will still cost much less.
  • No need for wet cleaning.
  • Ease of manufacture.
  • Easy to replace old or damaged paper curtains.
  • Easy to mount and remove from window.

However, the obvious disadvantage can be called a short service life, rapid wear. Wallpaper is likely to fade in the sun, which will soon lose its original appearance. Since they cannot be wiped with a damp sponge, if they are heavily soiled, they will simply need to be disposed of. Also, due to the fragility of the material, with careless handling, paper curtains can be very easily torn. This disadvantage can turn into a virtue if you like to change accents in the interior often.

Another disadvantage may be the cheap appearance of the product. Although in this case a lot depends on the quality and color of the wallpaper itself, the craftsmanship, and how harmoniously they fit into the design of the room.

Installation methods and work planning

To determine the desired size of the piece of wallpaper, you need to consider mounting options. Classic blinds can be mounted outside or inside the window opening.

  1. External fastening. The width of the roll should exceed the width of the opening by 10 cm. This mounting option is appropriate for a very narrow window sill.
  2. Internal fastening along the width of the window. In this case, the width of the wallpaper matches the width of the opening. This option is also convenient with a narrow window sill.
  3. Window frame fixing. In this case, the width of the paper roll must match (+/- 2 cm) with the width of the frame. This method of fastening is optimal for a wide window sill in order to maintain its functionality, and the most acceptable in the case of homemade paper wallpapers.

Installation options for classic blinds.

In our master class, we will consider how to make paper blinds step by step with fastening along the window frame. Therefore, at the planning stage, take the appropriate measurements of the window, compare the width of the opening with the width of the roll. If the window has non-standard dimensions, it may be more rational to make paper curtains from two segments.

Necessary materials and tools

To create budget, original blinds, you will need the following materials and tools:

  1. Roll of wallpaper.
  2. Roulette / ruler from 50 cm.
  3. A decorative cord or ribbon that matches the color of the wallpaper.
  4. Scissors.
  5. A piece of double sided tape.
  6. Fasteners.
  7. Hole punch (awl).

For the manufacture of blinds from wallpaper, only varieties of medium-weight paper are suitable. Vinyl wallpaper will be extremely difficult to bend and use.

Step-by-step production of paper curtains

When the measurements are taken, the plan is drawn up, and the tools and materials are at hand, you can start making blinds from wallpaper with your own hands, following the clear step-by-step instructions with photo examples.

  1. Mark the height of the window on the wallpaper, then add at least another 25% of this segment. Part of the extra length will go to the "accordion", the other part - to the mount.
  2. Draw strips of the future accordion up to 3-5 cm wide on a segment. If the width of the folds is greater, the curtains will look very untidy. The stripes must be perfectly even. Fold the accordion so that the entire segment turns into a narrow strip. Cut off the excess.
  3. Wallpaper accordion.

  4. Next, you need to make holes in the accordion. There can be two options here: to make classic blinds, you need to make two holes at the edges of the roll, to make a swag (a decorative element in the form of a “peacock's tail”), you need to make one hole in the center of the wallpaper. Regardless of whether you make two or one hole, it should recede from the edge of the folds by at least 10 mm.
  5. Holes in accordion wallpaper.

    To punch a hole, it is advisable to use a special hole punch to get neat punctures and not bend / damage the paper. In everyday life, a hole punch is often replaced with an awl or a screwdriver, but in this case, you need to work very carefully so as not to bend the wallpaper.

    Using a screwdriver to pierce holes.

  6. You need to thread a string or ribbon through the hole. At the top edge it is worth making a small reliable knot. The length of the cord after tying the knot should be equal to the length of the paper piece. Attach clips to the lower end and cut off the excess.
  7. Clamps can act as standard clips for ropes and cords, decorative clothespins, beads, paper clips and other devices. You can not use clamps at all, but fix the height of the blinds by tying decorative bows from a rope or ribbon.

    An example of fasteners for a blind cord.

  8. Glue double-sided tape to the upper edge of the paper piece (at the same time fixing the rope knot). The protective film on the other side of the adhesive tape does not need to be removed yet.
  9. If you want to make a decorative version with a fan at the bottom, you will need a piece of double-sided tape up to 20 cm long, the width should be less than the width of the accordion folds. The tape must be glued to one side of the lower fold, then remove the protective film and connect both halves of the accordion, as shown in the photo:
  10. Sticking double-sided tape on one side of the accordion fold.

    Gluing the accordion folds into a fan.

  11. In the final, it is necessary to tear off the second protective film from the adhesive tape at the upper edge of the structure and attach the curtains to the window sash.

During operation, the lower fold of the curtain (unless it is made in the form of a fan) will deform and deteriorate the fastest. To prolong its life, you can glue a strip of cardboard to the bottom harmonica (before making holes). This will make the entire structure heavier, therefore, when raising the blinds, they will need to be additionally fixed with clothespins.

In general, the whole process consists of the steps shown in the illustration:

Step by step illustration of the process.

A quick way to make blinds

This option is suitable if you need to install temporary sun protection before buying store blinds or curtains, and aesthetics and decorativeness do not play a role. This is a variant of wallpaper blinds for the lazy, as it will take no more than 20 minutes to make. You can remove and mount this structure as much as you like if necessary.

Required materials and tools:

  • wallpaper section (length = window height + 25%);
  • piece of cardboard;
  • double sided tape;
  • clothespins.

Description of the work in stages:

  1. You need to measure the height of the window, measure the desired length of the roll and add another 25% to this number.
  2. Fold the wallpaper into an accordion, similar to the previous option.
  3. The bottom fold of the accordion must be reinforced with cardboard using PVC glue, double-sided adhesive tape or a stapler.
  4. Attach double-sided tape to the upper fold of the accordion, remove the protective film from the other side and glue it to the sash of the double-glazed window.

At night, the blinds will hang freely down. In the daytime, the height of the blinds will need to be fixed with clothespins or clips.

Decorating blinds with wallpaper or paper

You can use the remnants of wallpaper not only for making blinds, but also for decorating ready-made window curtains. Blinds made of plastic, wood and bamboo are suitable as a "base". With the help of such a simple decor, you can transform an old, bored interior, hide defects on the blinds and add bright colors to the design of the room.

This decor option is suitable for blinds with a slat width of 5 cm or more.

Necessary tools and materials:

  • old blinds;
  • a roll of wallpaper or colored paper;
  • PVC glue or another for paper, brush;
  • pencil;
  • scissors;
  • ruler.

Step by step work:

The final look of the decorated blinds.

You can make blinds from wallpaper with your own hands together with the kids, because following the step-by-step instructions and tips on the photo, the whole process will be quick and fun. Homemade wallpaper blinds can be used for any room in the house, not only as a temporary solution, but also as permanent original window curtains.

In detail, the process of making blinds from paper wallpaper can be viewed on the video:

The summer heat forces even the most resistant to high temperatures people to close themselves from the merciless rays of the sun, especially in those cases when the windows of the apartment face south. It is not always financially possible to purchase high-quality window blinds, and sometimes there is simply no desire to wait until they are made to a certain size. Therefore, the question arises of how to make blinds from wallpaper, the excess of which, as a rule, remains after repair and collects dust in the pantry. In addition, thick wallpaper paper can not only protect the room from overheating, and the curtains from fading, but also organically fit into the overall interior, especially if you use the same material that the walls of the room are pasted over.

This way to protect yourself from the sun will save not only a decent amount, but also time, as it will save you from repeated trips to the workshop.

In addition, you can see that neatly made pleated blinds will not look disharmonious or “beggarly” at all - today some designers purposefully opt for this particular option for protecting windows from sunlight, because such curtains are quite capable of becoming a real decoration of the room.

It is also very important that making such paper curtains is within the power of any homeowner, even one who has never done needlework before. Therefore, if you have everything you need to make pleated blinds at hand, you can safely get down to business.

Production of pleated blinds

The first option and several of its varieties

Before starting work, it is imperative to clear the table of everything superfluous, since you will need a lot of space on which you can freely spread a wallpaper canvas with a length of at least 1500 mm. After that, you can proceed to the preparation of all the necessary tools, which, however, can certainly be found in any home.

Illustration
So, for the manufacture of blinds you will need:
- canvas, preferably paper wallpaper;
- scissors;
- meter ruler and pencil;
- a beautiful thin cord, approximately 1.5 ÷ 2 mm thick;
- awl;
- Double-sided tape,
- stationery knife.
In addition, you may need tape to decorate or support the curtain in a folded form, depending on the chosen model of pleated blinds.
Instead of a retainer, it is quite possible to use an ordinary clothespin that matches the color of the wallpaper, or a hair clip.
The latch is necessary to fix the blinds in the desired position.
For this purpose, an accessory element of clothing is used, which can most often be found on the laces of the hoods of sweatshirts or jackets.
A rope is threaded into it, it is clamped inside the latch, and the curtain is securely held at the selected height.
The very first step is to measure the window or only the double-glazed window, depending on how wide it is planned to make the curtain.
Let's say the height of the window is 1350 mm, about a quarter is added to this value, that is, in this case, another 350 mm, which are necessary for the formation of folds.
The result is a length of 1700 mm - this length will require wallpaper.
Further, wallpaper is spread on the table, the desired size of the canvas is measured.
To prevent the roll from curling, it is recommended to put a load on it along the edges.
After marking the required length, it is necessary to draw a line perpendicular to the edges along the square, along which the wallpaper is cut.
Then, the wallpaper canvas intended for blinds must be marked for the size of the corrugations.
Typically, the width of the fold is 20÷30 mm.
Naturally, the risks along the edges of the canvas must correspond to each other.
According to the marking points made, the canvas must be drawn using a ruler.
According to the marked lines, it will be easier to bend the canvas into an "accordion".
The first fold is best folded using the edge of the ruler.
It is laid along the drawn line, the edge of the canvas is folded and the fold of the fold is marked, so the fold will turn out to be even and clear.
If the wallpaper is too dense, then along the drawn line, attaching a ruler, it is carried out with folded scissors or the blunt side of the blade of a table knife, with slight pressure.
Then, to get a clear line, bending the first fold, draw along it with the side of a pencil or pen (naturally, so that there is no trace left - the pencil must be clean).
Further, focusing on the markup and the first bend, the fold is bent in the opposite direction, according to the "accordion" principle.
Such manipulations are carried out until the entire canvas is folded into an even pile.
The resulting “accordion” is pressed from above with a ruler, which will additionally help to temporarily fix the “pleated” shape in this position.
After that, depending on the chosen model of the blinds, the middle of the curtain width is determined, or it retreats 150 mm from the edges to pierce holes.
In the first case, one cord will be passed through the middle of the future curtain, in the second model, two cords are passed through the canvas closer to the edges of the blinds.
At the indicated points, with the help of an awl, one hole is pierced in the middle part of the folded curtain, or two - closer to the edges.
The resulting punctures need to be slightly expanded by gently twisting the awl in them.
This will be required in order to pass the ropes through them, which should move freely inside the holes made.
The next step, using a “gypsy” needle or a crochet hook, a rope is pulled through the holes, the edges of which must be melted in advance, and its lower side must be fixed in the latch.
Moreover, below the latch, you need to leave a cord with a length of approximately 400 ÷ 500 mm - this will be a margin for stretching the curtains in length.
Later, its excess can be cut off, and the end can also be melted.
When the rope is stretched through the entire "accordion", it should be secured with tape on the top fold of the curtain.
Then, a strip of double-sided tape is glued onto the same part of the blinds.
The result should be something like this.
Both the first and second versions of the curtains can be left rectangular, tied, for example, with ribbons from below.
Blinds with one cord passed through the middle can be folded into a “fan” by pulling it up a little and securing it with a latch.
After the "fan" is formed, its edges are glued together with double-sided tape or, if possible, with silicone using a special gun.
But in this case, it will no longer be possible to separate the glued edges in the future.
Therefore, instead of glue, you can use a small clothespin or hairpin for fastening, hooking it in the middle of the width of the blinds, from the side that will be turned to the window glass.
In this case, such a fixation of the "fan" will be invisible from the room, and at any time there is the possibility of straightening the bottom of the blinds, making them even.
If a fan-shaped bottom of the curtain is chosen, then its folds must be beautifully and carefully straightened so that the rays of the folds converge at one point in the center.
Ready-made blinds are fixed to the upper part of the window frame, using a strip of double-sided tape previously pasted on them, from which the protective film is removed before fixing.

There are several more options for blinds, which you can also make yourself using wallpaper canvases.

  • This is a simpler version of pleated blinds, for which you don’t even need to prepare and thread cords through the canvas. For such a curtain, you will need a wallpaper canvas, which is folded like an accordion in the same way as described in the table above. Blinds are also fixed on the frame with double-sided tape, and their lower side in the middle is pulled up and fixed with a regular clothespin or hairpin, forming a beautiful fan. If desired, on the wallpaper canvases, from the side facing the street, you can stick a foil that will reflect ultraviolet rays, preventing them from heating the room.

  • If arched windows are installed in the apartment, then wallpaper blinds can become a real decoration for them, as they are fixed along the arch in the form of an elegant fan, collecting one edge of the wallpaper bent into an “accordion”.

To do this, on the wallpaper, previously folded with an "accordion", an ordinary adhesive tape 15 mm wide is glued along one edge.

Then, the "accordion" is collected in a pile and pierced with an awl through and through from the side where the adhesive tape is fixed. Through the resulting hole, with the help of a gypsy needle, a cord is pulled, which will pull the lower edge of the fan, and the adhesive tape will not allow the paper to tear. The cord is tied into a knot on the side that will be turned to the glass. Blinds made in this way will not only protect the room from the sun, but also give the room a special charm, emphasizing the shape of the arch.

Blinds prices

  • If the arched part of the window is divided by a vertical rack of the frame, then two half-fans are made for each half of it according to the principle described above. They are fixed to each window sash separately, making up a whole semicircle. This method of fixing curtains on an arched window looks no less interesting than the previous version.
  • If there is a need to close only the upper part of the window, for example, to block the flow of sunlight to any specific area of \u200b\u200bthe room (baby crib, desktop, etc.), then you can use wallpaper folded in the form of a fan and fixed to one of frame corners. This option looks quite original, both from the inside of the apartment and from the street.

The second option - the task is somewhat more complicated

Making the next model of paper curtains, including wallpaper, will take much longer than a regular pleated blind. However, they also look more respectable, and also protect the room from heat much more reliably, as they consist of two layers, between which an air gap is created.

  • For the manufacture of such blinds, the wallpaper must be marked and cut into strips, approximately 100 mm wide.
  • The strips are twisted into a tube in length, and then their edges are glued with an overlap of 10 mm. There should be enough such tubes so that they are enough for the entire height of the window.
  • The glue should dry well, and then each tube is compressed into a flat lamella, so that clear side ribs are outlined, and the place of its gluing is in the middle of the upper side.
  • The next operation - the middle line of each folded tube, is smeared with glue with a strip of 10 ÷ 12 mm, and all elements are glued together along the length. The glue should not spread, so dry glue is best - otherwise the whole effect of lightness of such a design will be smeared.
  • All glued and stacked tubes should dry well.
  • Then, without unfolding the resulting structure, 150 mm must be retreated from its edges. In these places, with the help of an awl, holes are pierced and expanded, into which cords are passed. They should not be visible from the outside, as they will pass inside the straightened tubes. The lower ends of the ropes are passed through the clamps, which will help to hold the curtain in different positions. Thanks to the air gaps formed in the tubes, the blinds can be completely stacked or raised to the desired height.
  • You can hang these blinds using two plastic rings tied to the upper edges of the rope. They are hung on hooks screwed into the upper slope of the window opening. In the case of plastic windows and - you can get by with double-sided tape, since such blinds are not at all heavy.

Newspaper blinds

This type of blind can be made from any paper, including wallpaper, but still, old newspapers are most often used to make this variety - due to the fact that they are printed on thin, easily curled and retaining shape paper.

To work, you will need a lot of newspapers, a beautiful thin cord, two plastic rings, self-tapping screws, nails or hooks, depending on which plane the blinds will be fixed to.

For the manufacture of curtains of this type, 900 × 400 mm in size, it will be necessary to wind 170 ÷ 200 newspaper tubes 400 mm long. If they get a little longer, then they can be trimmed at the end of the work. Based on this proportion, you can calculate the amount for your size of the window opening.

IllustrationBrief description of the operation to be performed
To make it easier to carry out the preparatory stage of work - the preparation of tubes, you will need a knitting needle or another fairly thin metal rod.
Its diameter will depend on how large it is planned to make these elements of the blinds.
Having wound the newspaper on the rod, its edge is fixed with dry glue or PVA. The glue must dry well.
Having prepared the required number of tubes, they must be painted with acrylic paint, and any colors can be used - as intended by the sketch of future blinds.
It is recommended to take a coloring composition intended for facade work, as it is more water resistant.
Additionally, it is best to add PVA glue to the paint in a ratio of 3: 1.
After the paint dries, the tubes are laid out in a row and leveled.
Further, you can proceed to the crucial stage - to fastening them together into one “canvas”.
This process can be done in two ways:
The first option is to fasten the tubes by twisting them with a rope, making one or two knots between them, or simply using the “figure eight method”.
It is best to fix the knots with glue so that they do not untie and loosen.
Work begins from the top side of the curtain. The rope is tied to a plastic ring for curtains, its ends should be about one and a half times longer than the length of the blinds, and it is better if they are even a little more than they are not enough.
Then, the two ends of the cord are intertwined, one of which runs from the outside, and the other from the back of the tubes.
The second option is suitable for those who know the art of crocheting. Moreover, knowledge of complex patterns in this case is not required at all - you only need to be able to weave a simple chain.
This method of fastening is more reliable, as it firmly holds the tubes next to each other.
At the same time, the cord does not spontaneously weaken and does not stretch.
If the tubes are tied in knots, then in the lower part, the cord is also tied in a knot, which must be additionally fastened with glue for reliability.
In order to hang the blinds on the window frame, you can drive carnations into it, screw in screws or special hooks.
If the blinds turned out to be uneven at the edges, then they must be carefully cut with sharp large scissors so that they do not jam the edges of the tubes.
After that, it is recommended to cover the finished product with acrylic varnish, which will make the tubes more durable and give them a matte sheen.
In finished form, the blinds look something like this.
If it is necessary that there be a smaller distance between the tubes, then instead of two knots, you can tie one, use the figure-eight weaving system or a crocheted chain.
In this photo you can see how the street is visible through the tubular blinds.
At the same time, coolness is maintained in the room, and it is possible to freely view the street from the room, and at the same time, nothing will be visible from the outside.
If this type of blinds is painted white, then in the evening the window will look as shown in the photo, that is, the opening will not be highlighted with a dark spot.

On a cloudy day, if you want to open the window completely, you can use two methods.

Prices for roller blinds

roller blinds

  • Firstly, the blinds are easy to remove as unnecessary, as they are hung on the window with two rings, but you can do it in another way.
  • Secondly, it is easy to make the simplest "regulator" for the height of the blinds. From the side of the window, cords are tied to the plastic rings, 200 ÷ 250 mm long, and another ring is attached to their lower end. When the blinds are rolled up, in a roll, the bottom ring is put on the same nail or hook on which the blinds are hung. Instead of a cord, you can use one or two satin ribbons, which will not only support the curtain, but can also serve as a decorative decoration.

It should be noted that the same blinds can be made not only from newspapers, but also from a smooth wooden rod, well-dried reeds or plastic tubes, which are fastened together in exactly the same way.

Decorating old blinds with paper wallpaper

If there are already blinds on the windows, but they have lost their attractive appearance, and I would like to purchase new ones, but there are certain difficulties with finances, then there is still a way out. Look in the "stash" - after one of the repairs, a piece of wallpaper probably remained, and you just have to make a little effort, as the appearance of the windows will be changed.

So, in order to carry out this somewhat even creative process, you need to prepare:

  • Wallpaper or beautiful decorative paper.
  • Any plastic blinds.
  • Brush and PVA glue.
  • Scissors, ruler and pencil.

Having prepared everything you need, you can proceed to work:

  • First of all, the blinds need to be cleaned of dust that can accumulate on the lamellas during their operation. Sometimes it takes a lot of effort to do this, but such an operation is necessary because the wallpaper will not adhere well to the surface of dirty plastic.
  • Cleaned and dried blind slats must be measured and counted.
  • Further, the wallpaper is spread on the table and marked with a ruler and a pencil according to the dimensions taken from the lamellas. Then, the canvas is drawn into the required number of stripes. In addition, they should note the location of the holes through which the connecting threads on the blinds are passed. It is recommended that all stripes, according to the figure, be immediately numbered so that there is no inconsistency in the ornament.
  • Then, the wallpaper is cut into marked strips, and in the places where the holes are, cuts are made, or each of the paper overlays is cut into three parts. They will be glued to the lamellas between the holes for the fastening threads.
  • The next step is to carefully stick the wallpaper strips onto the slats of the blinds. If the strips protrude slightly beyond the edges of the lamellas, then after the glue dries, their excess is carefully cut off with a sharp clerical knife. Do not trim the paper until the glue has dried, otherwise the work may be damaged.

  • So that the wallpaper coating is less polluted, and the lamellas can be periodically cleaned of dust, they are covered with two to three layers of acrylic varnish. Each subsequent layer is applied after the previous one has completely dried.

It should be noted that you can tidy up the blinds or simply give them a more decorative look by sticking a stained glass film on them, which today is available in the same way as wallpaper, and has a very affordable price. It is easy to work with this material, besides, you do not need to purchase additional glue.

If you have long wanted to buy wooden wallpaper, but it didn’t work out, since they are not cheap, you can paste over ordinary plastic blinds with self-adhesive paper that imitates the texture of wood.

How to protect yourself from the sun's rays hitting the windows?

It is clear that the first thing that comes to mind is ordinary curtains, however, there are many other original ways. The publication of our portal will surely help you decide on the best option.

So, as you could see from the information above, making or decorating blinds on your own, using wallpaper or even waste paper, is quite possible, since there is nothing particularly difficult in this process. The main thing is that the work on the manufacture of such curtains will not require much time, and financially it will be almost invisible to the family budget.

At the end of the publication - an interesting video showing another interesting method of making paper blinds.

Video: Homemade paper blinds - try it yourself

Wallpaper blinds are often used on windows in the country, on loggias, verandas, balconies, and for rooms that are on the sunny side. They can also be hung on windows during repairs or if you simply do not have enough money. They are quite original, and the cost of them is minimal. To make paper blinds does not need to spend a lot of time, just a few hours will be enough.

To make blinds from wallpaper with your own hands, you need materials.

Namely:

  • The rest of the wallpaper;
  • Scissors;
  • Roulette;
  • Ruler;
  • Retainer;
  • Regular and double-sided tape;
  • Hole punch or awl;
  • Rope;
  • A trailer, which can be a bead.

Step-by-step instructions will help you make blinds from paper wallpaper. First you need to measure the window with a tape measure. 30-40 cm are added to the length of the window. When you have completely decided on the size, using a knife and a ruler, cut a piece of wallpaper of the required length. If the window is wider than the wallpaper, you can glue two canvases using double-sided tape with glue.

The prepared material must be folded in the form of an accordion with a strip width of 3-5 cm. Try on the workpiece to the window and, if necessary, cut off the excess. In the center of the made accordion, use an awl to pierce a hole.

Thread a strong rope through the hole, secure everything with tape and cut off the unnecessary end of the rope. Double-sided tape is used to secure the blinds. It is glued to the top strip of the accordion, and the bottom is only half glued. The lower part must be glued with a fan. Put a retainer with a trailer on the end of the thread, and the already fully made blinds are glued to the window. Ready-made wallpaper curtains can be decorated with rhinestones, butterflies or drawings. With careful use, these curtains will last a long time.

Do-it-yourself wallpaper blinds: a master class for the lazy

If there is a need to install temporary blinds, the appearance of which does not matter much, and first of all they are needed for protection from the sun, you can use the simplest master class for their manufacture. To make blinds from this material, you need no more than an hour. You can transport them, remove them, and install them again.
