How does the coral color behave in the interior of the house, where and in what form should it be applied?

Basic rules for the use of coral color in interior design

For lovers of red, which can be too bright in home decoration, coral is a real find. In the interior, the color of coral can create a different atmosphere. Depending on the application, it can become both gentle romantic and cheerful sunny.

However, coral color should be included in the interior design with caution, it is very easy to “overdo it” because of its relationship with red. An excess of coral color in a room can cause psychological discomfort, irritation, and sometimes aggression.

It is best to use coral accessories to add brightness and liven up a bright room. If the interior already has a lot of light elements, then coral can be preferred in choosing the color of the walls.

Don't forget that coral also has hues and saturations, and it's best to choose the lighter ones for walls. In order for such walls not to visually absorb the entire space, they should be diversified with the help of various textures, patterns or accessories.

The combination of coral color in the design of different rooms

Red-coral color will go well with white, beige, creamy, milky and cream colors in the living room. Thanks to coral, you will have the opportunity to place the desired accents and not let the interior be too boring. The combination of such shades is most often used in modern style.

With delicate shades of blue and green, such as cornflower blue, dove, pistachio or mint, coral color will create a romantic atmosphere that can be complemented with gray or brown decor elements, so to speak, to neutralize or soften.

Using coral with purple is a great solution for a bedroom. Delicate violet or lilac paired with coral will look romantic and, unlike pink, will not make the room cloying. A pair of coral with plum or amethyst will give the bedroom a sense of luxury.

A combination of light coral shades with brighter colors: blue, yellow and green looks modern and unusual. For example, if coral is combined with yellow and green, then the room will always be warm and sunny. Paired with blue, it will create a marine mood.

Incredibly stylish and very original will look like a kitchen with wooden furniture and accessories, made in this color. Also, a combination of coral with blue or blue is great for the kitchen, but such a duet should be diluted with lighter elements.

A bathroom in which coral is present will look harmonious. Since the bathroom should radiate freshness, you need to be careful with coral, and use it very little, combining it with white, beige, blue and green.

When to be careful with coral

However, it is not without its drawback - its dependence on light. Before choosing a shade of coral, determine what types of lighting will be in the room and take a close look at the coral underneath. Otherwise, you risk getting a dark and gloomy room on a cloudy day or too bright, eye-catching in good light.

Knowing the whims and whims of the coral color, you can safely use it to achieve your design decisions and creativity in interior design.

The pink-orange palette in the design of living rooms is typical for modern northwestern design. It fills the atmosphere of the room with vitality and warmth. That is why coral curtains are ideal for north-facing windows in homes where warm days filled with sunlight are not often pampered.

What is coral color

Scientists have described more than 6,000 species of corals, their color is different, about 350 shades are known. Depending on the composition and proportions of organic compounds, there are red, pink, white, black, even blue specimens. But only pink-orange shades of different saturation, characteristic of most colonies, are named in their honor. Their palette is unusually rich: salmon, fiery orange, pink-yellow. The list goes on and on, and each shade is beautiful in its own way.

The color most often used by designers is based on a combination of yellow, orange, red and pink. Much depends on the environment, companion colors can give it an unexpected shade. If we talk about what coral color is combined with in the interior, then the answer is simple - with different shades of the entire palette, but it looks best next to black, chocolate and lilac. In addition, pastel colors favorably shade it: cream, beige, milky, creamy, pale blue.

In relation to this color, designers have developed a strong belief - it suits cheerful and cheerful people, it does not have aggressiveness, red, pink puppetry, it does not catch the eye like orange.

It is believed that corals do not need to fill large planes. For example, plain coral curtains in the interior will merge with the same walls, they will look boring and dull. To avoid this, you should think about the variety of fabric textures, original patterns, add decorative elements and souvenirs.

Coral curtains in the kitchen

If the room is cold, the kitchen windows look sadly to the north, do not be upset. Salmon or pink-orange curtains will make any room warmer and cozier. But if it is always hot in a small kitchen, they will have to be used with caution, giving an assessment of every little thing.

Curtains in a small kitchen do not need to be done to the floor. For curtains, it is better to use a light, airy veil or organza. If we talk about dense materials, roll-up and Roman models up to the window sill with a mechanism that raises and lowers the canvas are ideal. The fabric can be taken plain or with a pattern, plain or embossed.

For a complete design of the kitchen interior, you need to add a few items to match the curtains. The design of the hood, tiles, countertops, chairs, ceiling lamps may include various shades of this unusual color - with a predominance of pink, red or orange.

Coral should not be used in solid wall decoration in the kitchen. Otherwise, in combination with curtains, they will visually reduce the size of the room. However, you can use panels, a mosaic interspersed with rich yellow-pink, or decorate one of the walls with it.

Coral curtains in the interior of the living room

Coral curtains in the interiors of living rooms and halls seem to fill the room with air and light, visually pushing its boundaries. Designers are confident that their capabilities are far from being fully disclosed and in the future their popularity will only increase.

In a spacious room, the coral palette can be used on a larger scale. Coral curtains in the interior of the living room will look especially impressive if you support their color with other details: upholstery on furniture, pillows, a rug, a poster above the sofa, a vase on a coffee table, and the atmosphere will look whole. At the same time, the walls and ceiling should set off the brightness of the window decor, white or cream shades are ideal.

You should not buy large furniture of the same color for coral curtains in the interior of the living room, this will visually overload the room. If canvases of a rich and complex tone are chosen, they will become the visual center of the entire room and, in accordance with this, it will be necessary to purchase not only finishing materials, but also furniture and accessories.

A bold decision is a game of contrast. In this case, coral curtains should resonate with the color of the walls, furniture, decor. However, this method is suitable only for non-standard interiors: pop art, postmodern, kitsch, fusion, boho, avant-garde.

Fabrics for curtains can be plain and colorful, with a predominance of coral. Their color can be played up in furniture, plain or with floral or geometric patterns.

Coral curtains in the bedroom

Coral textiles of a soft delicate shade will provide comfort to the bedroom. Combinations of orange-pink with violet and lilac are great for the interior of the bedroom. Additional pastel colors, as if diluted with white, in prints and patterns will add lightness to the entire interior.

Geometric, floral, abstract prints and patterns work best with plain walls. In this case, the color of the coral can be just a pattern on a light background. Such textiles will create a relaxed atmosphere that the bedroom needs.

Golden finishes are suitable for dark curtains in the bedroom: bows, ruffles, fringe, decoratively decorated edges. In the bedroom, made in oriental (Arabic) style, appropriate furniture, the luxury of expensive carpets, an abundance of pillows of various sizes, will create the right atmosphere. Heavy textured canvases that can protect against the southern heat and create complete shading for the duration of sleep will be appropriate here.

What color is coral?

Coral is a hard skeleton (place of residence) of coral polyps. Their variety includes more than 3500 species of about 350 flowers. With its complex, rich, varied hues and stone-like texture, coral has become a common material for jewelers. Black (akkabar), white and silver-pearl “angel skin” corals are considered especially valuable.

CORAL COLOR

Coral color has always been popular in Western design, and in the coming year it promises to become a real trend - more and more designers are turning to coral color. And in Russia, it has never been particularly popular, and this is strange - after all, the coral color is beautiful, saturated with the energy of summer, extremely positive and therefore very shown to residents of northern cities.

Coral is a complex color that includes red, pink and orange, so it has many shades.

Most often, coral is called the color that you see in the photo below - a transition between pink, red and orange.

It is clearly seen that the coral color in some cases can give off a strong red, in others it can turn into a bright warm pink, in others it can become almost orange or pale peach.

But with all the variety of shades, the coral color retains a very valuable quality for the interior - saturation and brightness without being intrusive and tiring. That's why he's so popular.

What colors go with coral? One of the amazing properties of coral color is its very high compatibility.

Usually saturated, but light colors, such as coral, are very demanding of their partners. And with the coral color, everything is very simple - almost all interior colors are suitable for it.

One of the best combinations with coral color is all shades of green: light, delicate, bright, dark - everyone will be fine.

Light, muted, pale and delicate shades of green are perfect for pairing with coral if you want a calm interior with retro motifs, as in the photo above left. These same shades of green combined with light coral are the perfect color base for a child's room, as seen in the photo above on the right.

Modern interiors are more suitable for a combination of coral color with bright shades of green, as in the photo below.

Coral color goes well with blue, and, unlike the combination of blue and red, you do not need to select colors of the same brightness to combine blue and coral, as you can see in the photo below.

Coral color goes well with all milky, creamy, beige, cream, chocolate, caramel and other sweet shades.

I often recommend coral-colored accessories to those who have a “boring” beige interior - by hanging coral-colored curtains, adding a couple of pillows, a box and a bouquet of flowers, you will get both brightness, and a play of shades, and energy, and at the same time, the interior will not becomes tiresomely bright. (By changing these accessories, you can easily change the perception of the interior.)

The photo above and photo below are a great example of how coral works with beige, cream, milk chocolate, etc.

Coral goes great with dark caramel and dark chocolate:

Interesting experiments are obtained by combining coral with lilac:

All sand shades are perfectly complemented by coral color:

Coral color goes very well with all shades of gray:

A rather curious combination is obtained with fuchsia and yellow:

Please note in the photo above that the photo on the right looks more harmonious, although more colorful, than the photo on the left. I want to emphasize one important property of coral color in particular.

Coral is not the color of minimalism. Coral loves complexity, texture, detail, vignettes, patterns and accessories.

In the previous photos, you may have noted this moment, but I want to specifically show you a few photos that illustrate this property of the coral color well.

Compare two pictures:

A complex, playful pattern on a coral background (photo on the left) looks, in my opinion, better than simple large spots (photo on the right).

Coral color is conducive to playfulness, to complex interior decoration, to cheerful and sophisticated decor. It tolerates variegation well, multi-colored bright accessories can be added to it. Wall decor loves coral color - white, golden, dark silver, gray, dark chocolate frames for pictures or photos look very good against its background. So if you like knick-knacks or want to create an interesting interior with unusual decor, and a neutral background seems banal to you, pay attention to the coral color.

However, I would like to warn you against the passion for coral color in the interior. As for all active colors, an important rule applies to it - if the walls are coral, then the furniture should be of a different color in order to show the beauty of the color by contrast. In the photo above, you see an example of an overloaded interior that does not need coral-colored chairs at all.

A glaring example of such an overload is the photo below. A coral ceiling and a coral cover with coral walls are completely superfluous. For the walls to rhyme, only coral-colored pillows are enough, then the interior would play, otherwise everything merges and fades from this.

Coral color has another important property.

Like all complex colors, coral is very dependent on lighting. Look at the photo above. Here the walls are painted in a rich shade of coral. Under the lamp, in the area of bright light, the coral color becomes almost light pink. Above the lamp, in the shadow zone, it turns out to be saturated, almost red. To the left of the lamp, it fades into orange.

This is a constant story with coral - it will always change hue in different light.

This wealth of shades of coral color is well used by modern designers. In the photo above, the coral color of the walls shimmers from dark pink to terracotta, this is because the daylight mixes with the yellow light of electric lamps in the room. Under yellow light, the coral color will glow orange.

Coral color plays under the light. In the photo below, this is clearly visible - in the illuminated areas of the wall, the coral color becomes soft pink, in the shade - saturated and juicy. This makes it one of the best colors for northern rooms - during the day it looks cheerfully bright, in the evening it emphasizes the play of light and shadow.

If several sources of local light are planned in your interior, then the coral color for the wall is a great find, it will play well in different light, and this will give dynamics to the interior.

For lovers of everything bright, festive, coral color is suitable for decorating the living room. It's not as aggressive as red, not as feminine as pink, and doesn't have the eye-catching brilliance of orange. Coral color in the interior of the living room can be used as the main color or used in detail to give the room freshness and originality.

Walls in coral colors

For wall decoration, the coral color in the interior of the living room can be dangerous if the shade is saturated and there is too much of it. In such a case, the room will look more compact than in reality, and will inevitably create a feeling of discomfort among the owners. For walls, it is better to use muted, blurry shades of coral and a textured surface for clearer lines in the interior.

If it is a clean, bright tone, let it be present on only one of the surfaces. Then coral will not fill the entire space with itself, making it stuffy, but will bring a note of freshness. Wall decoration in combination with white, cream, light gray corresponds to good taste. Here it is permissible to use a rich shade of coral, painting the upper part with it, and leave neutral colors for the lower part.

Floor and ceiling

The juiciness of the coral color leaves no room for imagination in the design of the ceiling. If the shade dominates the interior in the color of the walls, its white or cream surface will be the most advantageous option. You can decorate the ceiling with stucco or choose a glossy stretch fabric. Its neutrality will balance the brightness of the coral.

To cover the floor in these circumstances, it is better to choose light brown, discreet tones, using laminate, wood-effect tiles or parquet. Judging by the photo, the coral color in the living room will become more distinct, not filling everything around, but ennobling the space. A light brown floor will soften it without depriving it of brightness.

If coral is present in the decor of the room, and is not the main one, you can "play" with the shades of the ceiling and floor. For example, choose pastel but colored tones for the first. It is permissible to make the floor with bright accents by laying patterned tiles or marble imitation flooring. And if it is coral, neutral colors should be used in other interior details and decor.

Combining coral with other colors

A sense of proportion is important here. You can’t use bright colors on a grand scale, risking getting a gypsy tent instead of a living room. They are acceptable except in the decor. Otherwise, the most suitable colors:

Light shades of blue (mint, blue, turquoise). The freshness of coral will be emphasized if used in textiles, dishes, lamps. In the living room with windows to the south, the walls of a cold shade will give the room restraint and elegance, and the coral details in the form of sofa cushions, lamps, tablecloths and curtains will add warmth and comfort;

light green (olive, grassy, lime color) are allowed in combination with coral only in a highly diluted form. Bright shades will make a jungle look out of a pleasant living room. It is advisable to use greenish tones in accessories: wall panels, lampshades, figurines. Coral curtains and decorative elements look favorably against the background of light green walls. The combination of colors in this case will give the living room freshness and add sunlight;

Warm variations of beige (color of baked milk, golden, ivory). The combination of coral color with any of these shades will give the room harmony, tranquility. You can safely use them in large quantities not only in accessories, but in the decoration of furniture, room surfaces, curtains, tablecloths. Especially good options are when these shades dominate the interior, and coral is present in textiles, furniture upholstery, flower pots, pillows, mirror framing;

Dark tones (brown, black, dark gray) will give the living room austerity and nobility. Solid curtains made of dense fabric, possibly with a pattern, go well with coral walls. Dark wood furniture, furniture upholstery in chocolate or black leather are also suitable here. Surfaces should be matte, gloss will give the room the look of a casino or a nightclub.

Coral in detail

Too many accessories in such a catchy color will give the room the look of a warehouse for random items. The coral color in the living room, the photo of which should be placed in a design magazine, should be limited to one noticeable detail (curtains, furniture upholstery, carpet) and a few small ones (napkins, a lamp, a vase).

The principle of alternating shades is important. No need to spoil the interior with coral accessories with the same general background of the living room. The complexity of the color should match the shape of the decorative elements. It is more correct if they are asymmetric, with kinks, bizarre bends, changing one volume by another. Against the background of coral walls, floral ornaments and openwork lace are appropriate. The smaller their texture, the more organically they look.

Coral color in the interior of the living room is firmly in fashion. The final detail in his presence should be appropriate lighting. The darkened coral living room looks too gloomy. Excessive light intensity makes the shade defiantly screaming. Let the chandelier and lamps emit a soft light, then the coral shade will manifest itself in all its originality.
