Transformers made of wood with their own hands. Do-it-yourself transformer bench: drawings, manufacturing tips

There are a lot of people endowed with a creative beginning in our country. And they often come up with very original ideas. For example, how to make a transformer bench in the country. Behind it you can sit with your family and have a cup of tea. Or you can fold it, and enjoy the coolness of the evening already on a bench with a back. In general, this is something that changes its appearance and ease of use depending on the situation. You think this is impossible. It's in vain!
So, how to make such a transformer bench, we will talk about this in our article. Here is an example of its manufacture and drawings, according to which you can make your own copy.

Do-it-yourself transforming bench manufacturing technology

As always, it all starts with planning. To begin with, we draw a bench in AutoCAD, or another similar graphic program. Although you can use our drawings, which we will give at the end of the article, since the drawings are slightly different from the presented bench.

At worst, you can sketch a sketch on a sheet of paper. The thing is that the bench eventually fulfills its main functions, that is, it transforms from a bench with a back, into two benches and a table. The first option is, so to speak, a "disassembled" bench (benches and a table), the second - the bench is assembled, and is an ordinary bench with a back.
Then the material is purchased. This is a planed board 35x120x6000 mm. It is sawn to the size of the bench (according to its width). The boards for the seat and for the tabletop remain 120 mm wide, the rest are dissolved into 50 mm slats. Reiki will go into business to connect the benches and the table.

The bars are cut to size and at the ends of the bars we drill holes for fasteners. Bars are used as legs, for tables and benches.

The edge boards on the tabletop are made of a more complex shape - wavy.

Then cuttings with a diameter of 22 mm are purchased. In the boards of the countertops, we drill holes with a diameter of 22 mm to a depth of 30 mm. For this, a drill from a set for installing a handle in a door is well suited.

The edges of the parts are rounded with a belt machine with a grain of 60.

We process the edges of the boards with a milling cutter.

We assemble prefabricated parts.

Screws 6x70, 6x90, screws 8x80 are used as fasteners.

We paint the tree with teak wood stain.

We connect the moving parts with hinges, the fixed parts with screws and screws.

We insert pieces of the handle into the gaps between the boards of the tabletop.

We make an emphasis on the back of the bench.

Then we cover the bench with varnish, remove the villi with sandpaper.

It looks like a bench in the "disassembled" form.

And so in the collected.

Bench 2 in 1 is ready for use at your summer cottage. Now, as we promised, here are the drawings. They differ slightly from the presented bench, namely the supporting legs. Sobtvenno speaking, now you will see everything for yourself.

Drawings with dimensions for a bench - a transformer

As we mentioned earlier, this option is slightly different from the one presented above. The only difference is in the support legs for one of the benches. In fact, you can make legs similar to the option above, or use the idea from the drawing. In the first case, the stability of the bench will be higher, but the design itself is a little more complicated, and hence the process of its manufacture. It is up to you to decide on which of their options to stop, but now you have drawings with the main dimensions for such a bench.

The second option with drawings is given for a bench made of a square profile - a pipe. The drawings are shown below.

In order to view the drawings in full size, you can save the picture to your computer, or click on it and open it in a new window. In either option, the drawing can be opened in maximum resolution. Now we will give an example of the manufacture of such a bench based on the last drawing.

An example of making a bench - do-it-yourself transformers with a photo

1. We buy material, the pipe is a square, section 25 * 25 * 1.5 mm 4 pieces of 2 meters each and 2 of 1.5 m each, in this situation there is minimal waste.

2. We clean from rust, in the future it is easier to prepare for painting and easier to cook, not so laborious.

3. According to the drawing, we cut the blanks to size.

4. Seat from blanks. It is worth paying attention that then you need to refine the design for yourself, because. according to the drawings in certain nodes and corners, the shop turns out to be very flimsy. Strengthen as needed.

5. This is the future table, it is also the back of the bench, here we also had to change the angle in the future.

6. Another seat, in the future it will be clear what and where, it will also be finalized, then everything is clear ...

7. After welding, drilling holes, we twist everything onto furniture bolts 60 mm long, insert washers between the metal parts to make it easier to lay out. In this photo, the shop is still in its original version, without changes.

8. Here is the final version, an additional leg was added to one bench and the angle and leg extension in the other bench were changed, because. the back changed the angle of inclination to a steeper one, so that there would be no tipping had to be digested.

9. We disassemble, weld, grind and paint.

10. The boards on the table and bench seats were cut, measured, screwed. Then everything was disassembled and polished with a machine with sandpaper, roughness 320. Painted with Tikurila, machaon, impregnated with wax for outdoor use. On the right, the boards were painted 2 times, the central ones only once. It is worth noting that the board should be carefully selected on the table, without propellers and of the same thickness.

11. Well, actually ready-made version. Functionally, the thing turned out great.

12. Under the legs of the benches, we cut out nickels 50 * 50 mm from sheet metal. We will boil it so that you can put the bench on the ground, it will not fall into the ground.

13. Metal was painted with enamel 3 in 1, with a spray gun for 2 times.

14. The price for this product came out acceptable, about $ 30, while the finished product is sold for $ 150.

15. Here is the unfolded version, it turned out to be a convenient thing, it is very spacious for 6 people. The length turned out to be 1.57 meters, the width of the seat when folded is 48 cm, initially in the project the length was 1.85 meters.

16. Well, at the end, a small estimate: metal about $ 12, a bolt, nut, washers about $ 5, electrodes 2 mm -0.5 kg - $ 3, there was paint, impregnation for wood $ 5, the material itself for benches and tables was about 15 dollars.

Summing up the do-it-yourself bench - transformer

We talked about the convenience of such a bench at the very beginning of the article. Indeed, the bench is ideal for small garden plots, when the need to set the table does not arise every day. But if necessary, you can straighten it and sit already with the company. On other weekdays, the bench can be used as a "regular" instance.

Transforming furniture is an excellent solution for small apartments and rooms with a small area. The most common type of folding furniture is a sofa and a bed, but there are many more varieties of transformers. A folding chair is a practical and sought-after product. What's more, you can do it yourself.

The chair a transformer can be intended both for children, and for adults. The versatility of a compact item allows you to use the module in household chores, depending on its variety. There are several types of transforming chairs.

Folding kitchen chairs unfold and fold. They are able to change the height, which is convenient. This option will help save space in small kitchens. There are products made of wood, metal combined with fabric, etc.

A chair that transforms into a stepladder can be made as a stepladder stool with a screw element for extending the steps. The furniture is a full-fledged seating area that easily converts into a small staircase. With it, it is easier to reach the upper cabinets in the kitchen and mezzanines. The product will be useful during the repair. Many applications can be found. The transformer is made of wood, metal, high-strength plastic. It has a retractable or folding transformation system.

A transforming chair for children is a multifunctional item that lasts for more than one year. Children's folding furniture is able to "grow" with the child. The transformer includes a seat for the child and a table. It is easily modified, folded and unfolded. When folded, it takes up little space. The product is adjusted in height, and the seat is reclined like a chair. Many models are equipped with small wheels.

Furniture is divided by age categories. So, some products use from 6 months to 3 years. There are models that transform for a preschooler. In this case, the table is removed, and the high chair is adjusted to the height of the child. This ensures a proper comfortable fit.

Similar products can be made independently. The advantage of this solution is the ability to create an original piece of furniture that exactly meets individual needs, and its quality will largely depend on your own efforts.

Necessary tools and materials

Not only professional furniture makers and carpenters can create transforming chairs with their own hands. This is a solvable task and for anyone who wishes, provided that there is the necessary material, drawings, time and patience.

One of the most common models is a wooden step-chair, as it is a versatile and practical furniture option.

If it was decided to make a transforming chair on your own, then this will require the following materials and tools:

  1. Multilayer plywood with a minimum thickness of 12 mm. Joiners recommend giving preference to moisture resistant material. So the product can not be afraid to get wet.
  2. Section of a piano loop. This is an important detail, since the transforming part of the chair is fixed on it.
  3. A set of screws, self-tapping screws for wood.
  4. Finishing paints.
  5. Pencil, tape measure, ruler or tape measure.
  6. Wood saw or circular saw.
  7. Screwdriver, drill and drill bits for wood.
  8. Jigsaw, hammer, grinder.
  9. Wood glue, brushes or roller.

This model is made in various forms, so additional tools and materials may be required. But the key to the successful manufacture of chairs with your own hands are accurate drawings. You can make them yourself or find ready-made ones.

Drawing of transformers and dimensions of parts

To make a wooden transformer chair, you need to understand what it will be like, draw a sketch of it. Based on this, they begin to create detailed drawings of structural elements. If the dimensions of the parts are standard, then the view will be close to the classic, although it is possible to add some decorative elements. If the chair is planned to be made adjustable in height, then this must be taken into account when making the drawings.

To create a chair with steps according to standard dimensions, you will need drawings of the following elements (dimensions are indicated in mm):

  • 2 front side parts - 20x270x400;
  • 2 rear side parts - 20x325x850;
  • for the back of the product you will need 3 strips - 20x50x400;
  • front part of the seat - 20x90x400;
  • back of the seat - 20x165x400;
  • 3 steps - 20x120x360;
  • 6 planks - 20x20x95.

With the help of simple drawings, you can also make a standard transformer stool. Drawings of a stool with a screw module are different. They should display the following details:

  1. seat - 300x580;
  2. upper steps - 240x520;
  3. lower steps - 175x450;
  4. 3 round legs (high, medium and low) - 38x571, 38x368, 38x165;
  5. tapering stepped legs - 76x165, 57x203, 38x203.

The process of creating schemes requires attention and accuracy of calculations. The assembly of the entire product depends on how correctly the drawings were made. In case of a mistake, you can simply spoil the material and be left without the desired furniture.

Preparatory work

To make a step-ladder chair, you need to accurately transfer the finished drawing to a plywood sheet. Then, using a jigsaw, cut out wooden blanks. First, cut out the internal parts, and then the external contours. This process is carried out on each structural element of the product. The ends of the obtained blanks must be well polished and milled with sharp elements.

Furniture makers recommend (if there is no certainty that the independent cutting of parts will be carried out with high quality) to take the material and drawings to the carpentry workshop, where specialists on professional equipment will cut.

Stages of assembling chair parts

Installation of parts is carried out in stages. Before finally fixing each element, carpenters recommend pre-assembly. This approach will help to avoid defects and will make it possible to check how tightly the elements fit together. After that, you can start assembling using wood glue, screws, etc.

In order to assemble a transformer chair, you must perform the following steps:

  1. Connect the vertical parts of the upper and lower parts of the product. They are assembled with self-tapping screws.
  2. Install steps. Fix them with screws.
  3. Screws fasten the straps.
  4. The front and back parts of the seat are connected on a piano loop. It performs the function of transforming furniture.

After the installation has been carried out, proceed to the finishing of the chair.

What do you do with old furniture?

Perhaps some will shrug their shoulders, since a bench in the yard is enough for them, and someone generally takes a stool out of the house and is content with that, well, this is their view and their right. Only now, a do-it-yourself transforming bench can be in place not only in the yard.

Imagine that a lot of guests have gathered in the house, but not everyone has enough chairs - you can simply adapt a thick board between two seats, but you can use a folding structure, and besides, you can pack it in the trunk of a car and go on vacation. So, having drawings of dimensions, you can always assemble such furniture yourself.

The principle of operation of the transformer

A folding bench with a table is convenient to use in the country

As a rule, a structure of this type, when assembled, is a bench with or without a back, although in some complex models, the assembly allows you to fold the model to the state of one board. The principle of operation here is essentially the same as that of the most ordinary clamshell, although each option has its own peculiarities. Various materials can be used for manufacturing here, but mainly wood and various metals (black, galvanized or stainless steel, aluminum). Parts such as dowels, furniture bolts and/or conventional bolts with conventional or self-locking nuts and washers can be used to connect moving parts.

Functional Features

Transforming bench in assembled and disassembled form

Such a super bench actually consists of a set of three elements, these are two benches and a table in a disassembled state. But when the complex is assembled into a compact state, one bench is superimposed on top of the other, and the tabletop takes on a vertically inclined position, turning into a comfortable backrest that you can lean on when relaxing.

Perhaps someone is embarrassed that the tabletop consists of boards, between which there are large gaps, but this is quite fixable if desired - just the boards are screwed tighter and the plane turns out to be solid. But on the other hand, this is also not very desirable, since the main disadvantage of such structures is their large mass, even if wood species with a low specific gravity were used. But this is also fixable, since countertops can be made from laminated plywood or oriented strand board of the 3rd or 4th class (OSB-3, OSB-4).

Wooden transforming bench with dimensions and drawings

In order to make a transformer bench with your own hands, drawings and dimensions alone will not be enough - you will need various materials, tools and some place where you can work.

Principal drawings of a transformer bench

Choosing the Right Materials

Of course, you should start with the selection of the type of wood so that it is as light as possible, and the assembled structure can be transported by an adult man, or two people of any gender. Here you will need rocks with a small specific gravity, easy to process and mechanically strong. In this case, the best choice would be:

  • Pine;
  • cedar;
  • poplar;
  • aspen;
  • Linden;
  • maple.

To be more specific, for the manufacture of parts in this case you will need:

  • board 1180x120x20 mm;
  • board 370x110x20 mm;
  • board 340x110x20 mm;
  • bar 50 × 50 mm;
  • metal plates-linings, corners (preferably reinforced);
  • self-tapping screws with stainless steel coating;
  • furniture bolts;
  • paintwork materials (optional);
  • paint brushes and white spirit for hands and brushes.

Note. I want to clarify the terminology. Lumber, the cross section of which along any edge is 100 mm or more, is called a bar. If the section along one edge is two or more times greater than the section along the other edge, then this is a board. Everything else belongs to the category of bars, slats and slats.

A selection of the right tools

The selection in this case is small and in order to make this you can choose between electric and hand tools:

  • a hand-held circular electric saw or a sharply honed wood saw with a fine tooth;
  • electric or cordless drill (screwdriver) with a set of drills and nozzles;
  • milling cutter or jigsaw;
  • level, building square, a set of chisels, tape measure, pencil;
  • * grinder (belt or disc), sandpaper or diamond mesh.

*Note. The choice of sandpaper (marking) depends on the need and in this case, without hesitation, you can stop at the sandpaper for primary grinding. Diamond mesh marking is identical to ISO-6344.

GOST 3647-80 ISO-6344 Grain, microns
20-N P80 200-250
16-N P90 160-200
12-N P100 125-160
10-N P120 100-125

At present, in Russia, in the production of sandpaper and diamond mesh, European standards according to ISO-6344 are used. But there are also Soviet samples, which are marked in accordance with GOST 3647-80.

Assembling a wooden bench-transformer

Assembled legs for future construction

First of all (however, as elsewhere), you need to assemble the frame on which the structure is based, and we will start with the legs. Here, for manufacturing, you need to use boards 340x110x20 mm and 370x110x20 mm, assembling legs with a 90⁰ angle using steel plates and self-tapping screws.

Legs-gons are connected by boards

Using self-tapping screws, pre-prepared boards are screwed to the legs, as shown in the photo above. This will be the first half of the transformer. Do not forget that the board is thin, only 20 mm, so the bench should be strengthened with spacers and corners - this way it will bend less. It is better to make holes for screws in advance, otherwise the wood may split, especially if there is a knot nearby.

Attention! Strictly follow the drawings and assembly diagram! In this case, the outer width of the bench will be 1180 mm, and the inner width will be 1140 mm. If these parameters are violated, then the opening-closing process will either be difficult or even impossible!

Leg elements for the second bench

The second bench will have dimensions of 1090 × 220 mm, and for this purpose the craftsmen will use two boards 1090x110x20 mm. The legs here are made of wooden blocks - you will need 4 pieces of 320 mm in length and 2 pieces of 220 mm in length. 2 more bars for spacers of arbitrary length and two boards 400x90x20 mm.

The legs resemble a capital letter A

Such an assembly (boards to the edges of the bars), which is shown in the photo above, is already done without self-tapping screws, either wood glue or PVA is used here and all this is fixed with dowels and pulled together with clamps for several hours. The legs themselves are fastened with steel corners and self-tapping screws, forming a capital letter A, the height of which is 450 mm, and the pitch is 300 mm.

Final assembly of both benches

Now it remains only to screw the boards to the A-shaped legs with self-tapping screws, but at the same time you should constantly control the dimensions. If you are not mistaken in anything, then the width of the seat should be 1090 mm, but if you measure it by the legs, you get 1130 mm. Now screw the spacers for mounting the seat.

table top

Assembled tabletop for a transformer bench

By adhering to the instructions and drawings, you can reach the desired size of the countertop and this is 1200 × 570 mm. To assemble the shield, you will need 5 boards from prepared materials, cut to the desired length and two strips 570 mm long (width does not matter). 40 mm should be retreated from the edge, and the slats themselves should be placed vertically.

The assembled tabletop is attached to the main part of the transformer

The assembled shield is connected to the main part of the transformer, and this will require 2 boards 400x100x20 mm to stop. For each board, a cut is made along one edge at an angle of 115⁰ - this will correspond to the inclination of the back. In order not to make a mistake with the angle, it is better to cut it on both boards at the same time. 140 mm on each side recede from the inner edge of the shield and the stops are fixed with self-tapping screws.

Joints, furniture bolts and washers

The next step is to place the backrest on the stops of the legs, and for this, holes ø7 mm are drilled in the stop and in the vertical. Both parts are fixed together with an 8 mm ø6 mm furniture bolt and a self-tightening nut with a washer (required).

Armrests are installed on the protruding boards of the legs

In the event that the model freely folds and unfolds, the final assembly is performed. Armrests of 2 boards 80 × 220 mm and 4 boards 60 × 270 mm are installed on the protruding boards of the legs. The elements are fixed together with dowels, having previously smeared the plane with carpentry glue. They are attached to the bench, but so that there is an emphasis on the backrest slats.

Lever arm

Assembled transformer with lever

Now it remains to install the lever, thanks to which the transformation of the bench will become possible. For this purpose, prepare 2 boards 880x60x20 mm and round off the ends with a milling cutter or jigsaw. If all operations were performed correctly, the lever will be in the same plane with the tabletop bar and leg. To fix on the lever, two holes ø7 mm are drilled, stepping back from one edge 10 mm, and from the other 50 mm, and on the bar 10 mm and 120 mm, respectively. The connection is made with furniture bolts, self-locking nuts and metal washers. After assembly, the model is checked for performance - below you can watch a video clip of how a similar design works.

Conclusion

If you decide to make a transformer bench with your own hands, you can use the drawings and dimensions given in this article. This is one of the simplest designs, but this is where you need to start.

In a country house or in the country it is very convenient to use a transformer bench.

Firstly, the design does not occupy a large area. Secondly, it can move to a convenient place for you. Thirdly, with simple movements, the bench is transformed into a table with two benches, which is very convenient for holding a feast in the open air. How to make such a transformer shop with your own hands?

In order for the transformer, you need to prepare the tools:

  • grinder or hacksaw for wood;
  • screwdriver or a set of screwdrivers;
  • electric drill or hand drill;
  • measuring devices (square, ruler, level).

Consumables include wood, screws, sandpaper.

Work technology

The made shop consists of 2 benches and a back of a table-top. Benches differ from each other in width. We make the first bench with our own hands with dimensions of 118 x 25 cm. To do this, using consumables, we prepare parts in the form of boards 20 mm thick with dimensions of 118x12 cm. For legs, we cut out 2 parts with dimensions:

  • 37x11 cm - 2 pieces;
  • 34x11 cm - 2 pieces.

We grind all the details well, using a special wheel for the grinder, or with sandpaper. We connect the blanks of legs of different sizes in pairs using metal plates. The connection is carried out so that the height of the base is 45 cm and the width is 37 cm.

We fasten 2 parts 118x12 cm with self-tapping screws to the bases, we get a seat. Due to the small thickness of the boards, it is recommended to drill holes at the joints before tightening the screws with a smaller diameter so that the board does not burst. After assembling the first bench, we take measurements. When measuring, the outer width should be 118 cm and the inner width 114 cm.

We assemble the second bench with a width of 109 x 22 cm. The seat of the bench will consist of 2 blanks 109x11 cm. In order to make the legs, you will need a beam of 40x40 mm. The legs are made up of blanks with dimensions:

  • 32 cm - 4 bars;
  • 22 cm - 2 bars.

We also cut out 2 blanks 40x9 cm from the boards.

The transforming bench significantly saves space on the site and can be both a table and a bench.

We make the legs of the second bench with our own hands, for this, to a 22 cm bar, using a wooden dowel, glue and self-tapping screws, we fasten the board on the edge from one edge. We carry out the same operation with the second bar 22 cm long. We assemble the rest of the blanks in the form of the letter A. The upper part of the form A is bars 22 cm long, the sides of the letter are bars 32 cm long, and we cut the crossbar inside in the form of struts on our own. The connection is carried out using self-tapping screws and metal corners. The distance at the bottom of the letter must be at least 30 cm.

We fasten the details of the seat to the bases obtained. After assembly, we check the dimensions of the second bench. The width of the bench should be 109 cm on the seat and 113 cm on the legs. You can check the correct assembly of the transformer bench visually by aligning the second bench with the first. If they are attached to each other and they form a sofa of 4 boards located at the same height, then everything is done correctly.

We proceed to the assembly of the back-countertop. For the backrest, we need 5 blanks, having made them, they form a common plane with dimensions of 126x57 cm. The boards are connected by hand using planks 57x4 cm (2 pieces). The width of the slats should be 8 cm. The slats connect the tabletop elements from 2 sides at a distance of 4 cm from each edge using self-tapping screws. On one side of the assembled tabletop, 2 stops are attached. The stops are made from boards with a thickness of 20 mm, cutting to size: length 40 cm and width 10 cm. On one side of both blanks, a cut is made at an angle of 115 °. This angle will correspond to the tilt of the back of the transformer bench. The stops are attached to the inner sides of the worktop planks at a distance of 14 cm from the edge using self-tapping screws.

The back of the bench is installed on the stops tightly pressed against the legs. A hole with a diameter of 7 mm is drilled in the stop and in the vertical board. The connection is carried out using furniture bolts 8 cm long. Metal washers are installed between the stops. The head of the bolt must not protrude. The bolted connection must be movable and allow you to change the angle of the table top. You can check the assembly by changing the angle of the tabletop backrest. If the angle changes to 90°, you can proceed to complete the assembly.

Do-it-yourself transformer bench-table, step-by-step instructions for making a folding bench with photos, videos and drawings - not only convenient, but also beautiful.

The owner of any site wants to make it beautiful and attractive. At the same time, I want every thing in the garden to be perfect. Sometimes, incredible efforts and big money are invested in this. However, practice shows that much fewer victims can be dispensed with. So, for example, a transforming bench, which is quite easy to do with your own hands, is able to decorate a personal plot and add comfort and convenience to everyday life.

Bench-transformer - what is it and how does it work

Any country furniture should be multifunctional and comfortable - this guarantees a comfortable outdoor recreation and a pleasant pastime. An interesting option that will make any owner of the site happy is a transformer bench.

The garden bench in execution is not as complicated as it might seem to many at first glance. The design can in the blink of an eye turn from an ordinary-looking bench into a comfortable table of considerable size, which has two benches on the sides. And after use, you can return the furniture to its original position with a slight movement of your hand. The main thing in such a structure is moving parts, a mechanism and their strong fastening.

Types of transformer benches

Each owner chooses a kind of bench for himself: someone needs a bench to accommodate 3 people or more, and someone needs to organize a small table and 2 seats that look like a chair. There are a lot of options for assembling the structure, but below we will highlight several classic types:

  • Bench-table with benches. This kind of transformers in a matter of seconds turns from one bench into a complex of a table and two benches, accommodating a total of 5-6 people. It is the most common today, as it takes up little space and allows you to accommodate a large number of guests.
  • Bench constructor. In comparison with the previous one, this option is more modest. In a collapsible state, the design can serve as a bench on which many guests can fit. When there are no guests, the bench can be turned into two seats (with or without armrests - everything is optional) and a table between them. On the table, in turn, you can place a laptop, books or other items. This design is functional and very convenient.
  • Folding flower bench. This type of design is very similar to the previous one, but it has its own characteristics. Outwardly, the bench resembles a piano, but instead of the keys, the seat has recesses and cells into which the back details are inserted. Many people associate such a bench with a blooming flower, so it has just such a name. When folded, the design is a sofa that is easily transported to any place. You only have to open the "petals" of the bench, and you can enjoy a pleasant and comfortable stay on a comfortable bench. The main feature of the "flower" is the ability to move the elements of the back as you like.

  • Space saving. The bench does not take up much space, which makes it compact and practical to use.
  • Durability. Properly selected material will provide the bench with a long life.
  • An easy mechanism. Even a child can handle the folding mechanism.

Preparing to create a bench-table

Choosing the optimal material for manufacturing

Such a piece of furniture as a transforming bench can be purchased at any hardware store, but you must agree that it is much more pleasant to have guests and relax comfortably on a product of your own manufacture, because this is not only a beautiful design, but also a source of pride for you. However, before proceeding directly to work, it is imperative to decide on the material from which the bench will be made.

As a rule, wooden materials are used to build a quality bench. Moreover, in addition to natural wood, it is allowed to use plywood or PVC. Undoubtedly, the first option will be more expensive, but, as a result, it will serve you not for 3–4 years, but for about 35–40 years. In addition, wood has a number of advantages.

Advantages:

  • Environmentally friendly material;
  • Security;
  • Long service life.

An important note to pay attention to when using wood: before use, be sure to cover the bench with an antifungal agent, and also paint it with varnish. This will be an excellent prevention of the occurrence of rot.

Project drawing

In order for the design to be of high quality and convenient, it is recommended to make a drawing. If for some reason you do not have the opportunity to do it, then a ready-made scheme will be an excellent solution. When drawing up a drawing or selecting it from the Internet, 4 conditions must be observed:

  • The image of the final structure should be firmly fixed in your head. When building, you can not miss it.
  • The dimensions of the future transformer bench should correspond to the area where the structure will be located as a result.
  • The entire progress of work is recommended to be compared with the drawing, so it must be clear and of high quality (in the case of printing a photo from the Internet).
  • At the very beginning, it is necessary to calculate and fix the dimensions of the moving parts, which will subsequently be firmly fixed to each other.

Below is one of the options for the drawing, according to which further work will take place:

Tools and materials

To create a transformer bench, we need the following tools:

  • Hacksaw;
  • Roulette;
  • Sandpaper;
  • Chisel;
  • Drill;
  • Bolts with nuts.

The materials that we will use in the construction are listed below:

  • Wooden bars;
  • Edged boards;

Step by step instructions for making

  • We start with the manufacture of parts that will later play the role of the legs of the structure: for this, we cut out 8 similar segments 70 centimeters long.
  • We perform cuts on segments from above and below at an angle of 10 degrees. This will ensure your bench is balanced when set up on an incline.
  • Then we make frames for two benches from edged boards: we cut out 4 elements, the length of which is 40 centimeters and 4 segments 170 centimeters long.
  • Now we cut the corners on all the details from step 3 so that we can make two oblong rectangles.
  • We connect the rectangles. For this, it is recommended to use screws or nails. Important! If you decide to use option 1, then you first need to drill a hole.
  • Let's start creating reinforcing elements in the frame. These details will finally form the seat. Here we need a beam: it should be nailed at a distance of 50 centimeters from each other. Due to this, the structure will be reliably protected from lateral deformation.
  • We attach the legs to the structure: for this, 12 centimeters from the corners, we fasten them to the seat with 2-3 bolts (they must pass through the beam and part of the legs at the same time) so that they are firmly fixed. It is also recommended to make grooves in the timber to cover the bolt heads, and remove excess under the nut with a hacksaw.
  • We make a rectangle from a bar, which exactly matches the length of the benches - 70x170 centimeters. From the inside, the part is connected by additional stiffeners. This rectangle will later be the back or the table (depending on what position you give it).
  • It remains to form a common structure from all elements. Important! Since you have to work with large details, it is advisable to call an assistant, and not do the manipulations yourself. We cut out 2 beams 50 centimeters long and place them between the bench and the large shield. We fix them at the bottom of the shield, but on the side of the bench.
  • We cut out 2 bars again, only this time 110 centimeters long. The bars are fixed on another bench in the center. This is done to make the connection easier.
  • The final stage of the technical side is the sheathing. We sheathe the transformer bench from the outside with either chipboard or edged board.

Finishing

Since the structure can be placed both in the house and on the site, it can be covered in various ways.

  • If your bench will be indoors, then a great option would be stain or varnish. As a rule, such a coating dries within 36 hours.
  • If outdoors, then the best solution is to use waterproof paint that dries for 24 hours.

It is necessary to process the structure with means, otherwise the tree under the influence of moisture can begin to rot and quickly become unusable. It is recommended to renew the paint every 2-3 years - this way it will be better protected from bacteria.
