Why does the spathiphyllum not bloom? Problems of growing spathiphyllum: a list of "ailments", their causes and remedies Watering is frequent.

Among fans of indoor plants, spathiphyllum is especially popular, primarily due to its beauty.

Few people will be left indifferent by dark green shiny leaves and unusually delicate white flowers.

An important role is played by the legend that he helps women find their happiness, and protects the hearth from adversity and unrest.

But in order for a beautiful fairy tale to come true, at least the flower must be in comfortable conditions, look beautiful and well-groomed, but not everyone succeeds. What is the reason?

Possible problems

Spathiphyllum, subject to proper care, is quite unpretentious, the child of the tropical forests of the South American continent perfectly tolerates shading, rarely gets sick, and blooms most of the year.

But often experienced flower growers face some difficulties in growing it.

Sometimes, it would seem for no reason, the leaves of the spathiphyllum wither, blacken and turn yellow, the tips dry up, or become covered with yellow spots and are lost forever.

In the photo there is a spathiphyllum, in which the leaves turn black

Some complain that they can't wait to bloom, or the flowers turn green, darken and fall off. Sometimes a plant is attacked by pests or an incomprehensible disease suddenly appears.

What do these troubles mean when it is worth worrying about how to cope on your own, than to deal with pests?

There are many problems that await lovers, but it is not difficult to solve them, the main thing is to understand the issue thoroughly and then caring for the plant will not cause excessive trouble and will bring only pleasure and joy.

With proper care - there will be no problems:

Does not bloom, does not smell, does not please ...

The flowers of the plant are beautiful and touching, not without reason it is called a female flower, but some of its owners complain that they cannot wait until they bloom. Why does the spathiphyllum not bloom, but only leaves?

It blooms quite actively: several times a year, usually this period covers the whole spring, and sometimes until autumn, the owners can enjoy its magnificent view. This period is able to increase, it all depends on age, proper lighting, care.

The lack of flowering is more often observed for several reasons:

  • spacious pot;
  • excessive watering;
  • lack of nutrition;
  • wrong placement.

In such a large pot, the plant will not bloom

How to make a picky bloom?

The solution to the problem lies in several planes:

  1. The plant will flower only when the entire cavity of the pot will be filled with roots, that is, it will become cramped for him. Therefore, it is not advisable to replant it once again, but if you had to do this, then you need to choose a little more capacity.
  2. If the soil is regularly flooded, and diseased leaves have already appeared, this interferes with the normal nutrition and respiration of the plant, it is not up to flowers. In this situation, the dry tips are cut off, the soil is dried. It is necessary to decide on watering, it is important to apply it only when the topsoil dries out. This rule must be followed regularly, the soil in the pot must be loosened, the green mass should be sprayed, the water for irrigation should be enriched with Zircon or Energen added.
  3. The place for the flower is important to choose correctly- partial shade, without drafts and tangible temperature changes. The most preferred option is windows facing east.
  4. To activate vitality and induce flowering, first stop watering for a while, slightly lower the temperature of the content, to a maximum of 16 degrees, and then return to normal conditions.
  5. At times of active growth, spathiphyllum needs to be fed every 2 weeks. Moreover, nitrogen is added with caution, otherwise, apart from an increase in green mass, no other changes will be expected. But potassium and phosphorus, here just by the way.
  6. To wake up the sloth, you can rub him a little, pull the leaves.
  7. Provoke another flowering, you can cutting off flower stalk with a knife, at the very base.

What can be done if the spathiphyllum does not bloom:

Why do the leaves turn yellow and what to do?

Sometimes even the most caring owners of spathiphyllum leaves turn yellow. At first, small spots appear along the edges, then they increase, spread over the entire surface of the leaf, and it gradually dies off.

Dry air and lack of watering - the result on the leaves

This does not always indicate a disease of the plant. When the old leaves turn yellow and are lost, the flower simply gets rid of the shoots that have become obsolete in order to allow the younger ones to develop.

When, along with old leaves, young ones also undergo changes, then, most likely, the presence of the following factors is present:

  1. Perhaps the flower is standing directly in direct sunlight, then this burn marks, in which case it is necessary to remove them to a place where they will not be too open to the light.
  2. When the flower begins to wither, the first thing to do is to revise the the presence of insects.
  3. The reason may also be overdrying of the earthen coma.
  4. Sometimes the reason is that the flower, entering the flowering phase, directs all nutrients to the reproduction process. Or it has bloomed profusely for a long time, and saves energy for restoration. In both cases, it must be treated with special attention and fed.
  5. It is possible the flowerpot became too small for him, then the only way out is to transplant into a larger container.
  6. Causes color change and increased dryness of the air. A native of the tropics loves moisture very much, so you need to create similar conditions for him and spray him daily.
  7. Yellow spots form when cold water is used for irrigation.
  8. If the spathiphyllum brought from the store turned yellow, then needs to be transplanted immediately, usually such a substrate is of insufficient quality and does not contain the necessary components. Starvation manifests itself as spots, and then you need to make up for the lack of boron, magnesium, phosphorus, calcium and nitrogen.
  9. Green veins on a yellow background indicates the presence of chlorosis. Here the only measure to get rid of infection is.

If you start to eliminate the causes in time, then the flower is easy to restore and return to its former beauty.

The first thing to do is cut off damaged leaves to prevent the spathiphyllum from wasting nutrients.

Then, slightly digging the ground in a pot, carefully examine the roots. When they are healthy, they are light, and slightly greenish, which are closer to the stem.

But to be sure, it’s better to replace the earth, remove the rotten areas, and treat it with a fungicide as a preventive measure against diseases. Plant the plant in a new soil, preferably enriched with fertilizer.

The hostess should know information about the life cycle of her ward, separate the shoots from the mother bush in time, feed them in a timely manner, provide moisture and warmth, then the leaves will not change their color.

Blackening of the leaves, what can be done?

Sometimes spathiphyllum leaves turn black, often the reason lies in excessive watering.

From the oversaturation of moisture, the roots lack oxygen, and the plant reacts by darkening the tips of the leaves.

If the plant is accidentally flooded once, then a newspaper or a few paper napkins will help to correct the situation - just wet the ground and the moisture will go away.

But if the situation repeats itself often, and the changes have affected the leaves, on the tips of which black spots have already appeared, then the bush will have to be transplanted, replacing the ground.

The same reaction can be in response to a combination of unfavorable conditions: constant drafts and low temperatures, and if the spathiphyllum is in this situation for a long time, then the tips of unblown leaves also turn black.

The blackening of the leaves is sometimes indicative of root rot that has affected the lower part of the plant, which appears as a result of the above unfavorable conditions, this is especially possible if it is exposed to such an effect for a long time.

For a plant, this is very dangerous, if timely measures are not taken, then it will simply die. In this case, it is necessary to remove the flower from the ground and carefully examine the root system.

Those areas that have rotted are mercilessly removed, the remaining parts are first washed in potassium permanganate, then lowered into a growth stimulator, then processed with crushed activated carbon. The flower is transplanted, and then the rules of watering are strictly observed.

The blackening of the tips of the leaves may indicate an imbalance in nutrition: a lack of phosphorus and nitrogen in the soil, by the way, this is also a sign of an excess of fertilizers. The roots get a chemical burn, and cease to function at full strength.

In order to avoid these situations, it is necessary to use complex top dressing all year round strictly adhering to the instructions, then there will be no problems.

What to do if the leaves dry and what is the reason?

With the onset of cold weather and the inclusion of heating devices, the air in the room becomes much drier and the leaves often begin to dry at the spathiphyllum.

Leaves dry - look for the cause in excessive dryness of the air

This happens because the pots are usually placed on the windowsill, and the radiators under them dry out the air considerably.

This can happen during hot, dry summers when the sun's rays hit the leaves and cause burns, resulting in brown spots.

Here it is time to start the fight against dry air, daily spraying does not always help, so additional measures must be taken:

  • near the flowerpots, you can place small bowls with water, and place moss on the ground, it will maintain humidity without interfering with the breathing of the plant;
  • spread sand or expanded clay in the pan, moisten them a little and place a flower pot there;
  • in the store you can buy special humidifiers, they are simply saturated with water and placed on the ground;
  • once a week, in addition to spraying, the plant should have a warm shower, only the ground must be carefully covered with foil.

Some make the mistake of increasing watering intensity. But this measure is unjustified, moreover, it is harmful and can cause root rot.

A poor-quality substrate purchased from a store can cause the leaves to dry out. This may be the result of a transplant, but this is not surprising: the spathiphyllum root system is weak, and such a procedure is stressful for the plant.

Flowers turn greenish

Spathiphyllum flowers turn green for two reasons:

  1. Firstly, some varieties have this feature.
  2. Secondly, this the natural state of the flower when the white veil that covers the cob changes color, it gives a sign that flowering is coming to an end. If it turns green, you can cut off the pedicel, then forces will not be wasted, and soon it will begin to fill the buds again.

In their absence, the root system is carefully studied, if there are no changes there, then the flower does not have enough nutrition for a full-fledged vegetation, complex fertilizers will help here.

This plant is absolutely healthy.

At the flower, everything falls out of ... the trunk

Sometimes such a picture emerges, the spathiphyllum seems to be falling apart, the leaves have fallen and wither, and even lost turgor, what is the reason?

You need to remember how long the owner watered his pupil, maybe he forgot to do it, and this is a manifestation of a lack of moisture in the soil.

This spathiphyllum is very thirsty...

If everything is fine, then most likely the problem is in the roots, they do not work properly and the ground part does not have enough power.

The darkened areas are removed, most likely there will be a lot of them, since the plant would not react so radically with minor damage.

It happens that almost all the roots are covered by the process of decay, then they will have to be removed, leaving the intact part. Treat with antiseptics and put in water.

In case of severe lesions, it will be possible to save the spathiphyllum by immersing it in the liquid almost completely, leaving only the ends of the leaves at the top.

At home, it often grows in swamps and in such an environment it will be able to recover and gain strength faster, provided that it is not infected with the disease.

Leaf deformation

When the leaves of a flower change their shape, become narrow and elongated, then most likely the plant does not have enough light.

Although the sun's rays are dangerous for the spathiphyllum, complete blackout does not suit him either. Diffused lighting will be optimal, then he will feel great.

The plant twists the leaves - this is no accident

Pests and diseases - there is always this risk

Not a single plant is immune from attack, even with good care, uninvited guests can attack the spathiphyllum:

Shield fight:

If you take into account all the needs of the plant, provide it with proper care, competent agricultural technology and sufficient lighting, then there will be no problems with it, and this attractive flower will delight its owner for many years.

The discussion in this article will be about beautiful spathiphyllum flower, which decorates the houses and apartments of many housewives. We will consider the causes of poor growth and flowering of spathiphyllum. We will tell you how to water, and how often a flower needs top dressing. In this article, you will learn how to make a spatiffilum bloom and much more.

Spathiphyllum or spathiphyllum is a genus of perennial plants of the Aroid family that grow in the tropics (Central and South America). In the wild, Aroids grow in humid and marshy forests (near rivers and streams).

Did you know? The flower is called "female happiness" due to the fact that many single women met their love after the spathiphyllum appeared in the house. This flower is also known for awakening dormant love and giving some women the opportunity to become mothers.

The main mistakes of improper care for "women's happiness"

It is nice to see a fragrant flower in your garden or on the windowsill, but there comes a time when the spathiphyllum begins to bloom poorly for some unknown reason, the color of the leaves fades, and the plant looks sickly. In the article we will explain why the spathiphyllum does not bloom.

Humidity

In the section above, you read that the homeland of the spathiphyllum is subtropical forests, which are always warm and humid. Based on this information, you need to recreate a similar microclimate in a room with a flower. This is achieved by spraying the plant, as well as installing a pallet with wet moss or sand. You can simply pour water into the tray. Insufficient humidity can cause the spathiphyllum to dry out.

Important! You need to humidify the air at any time of the year.

Plant nutrition

An important part of caring for a plant is its top dressing. Spathiphyllum requires mineral fertilizer, which is applied in the spring. Additionally, you can feed the flower in the summer and during flowering. In winter, fertilizers are applied very rarely and in smaller doses.

Important! When the plant has not yet grown, fertilizer must be applied every 2 weeks.

When your spathiphyllum has become an "adult", top dressing can be done once a month.

dry air

Spathiphyllum is contraindicated in dry air. It is worth remembering this in winter, when heating systems dry the air a lot. In addition to spraying, do not forget about the air temperature, which should not fall below 18 ° C. The ideal temperature for the plant will be + 22˚С.

Did you know? Spathiphyllum is also called the "home spirit", it is believed that this flower is the Guardian Angel that scares away intruders.

The wrong pot

Oddly enough, namely the pot may not allow spathiphyllum to bloom. It is noticed that the plant blooms only in a cramped pot, when the roots fill almost the entire space. This happens because the spathiphyllum tries to take all the free space in the pot, while increasing the root mass. For this reason, all energy and reserves are spent on the growth of roots, and there is no strength left for flowering.

The solution to the problem is a small (but not small) pot for the plant. The maximum diameter of the new "house" should not be more than 18-20 cm. It is also worth remembering that transplantation is carried out at least once every 4 years. The signal for transplantation will be noticeable old roots sticking out of the ground.

Why spathiphyllum does not bloom, plant stimulation

If, however, all the necessary conditions have been created for the flower, but it still does not want to bloom, then You can resort to stimulating the plant in several ways.

1.Rise in temperature. In the summer, you can make the spathiphyllum bloom by raising the temperature to 24-25˚С.

2. Increasing illumination. In this case, you do not need to leave the flower in the scorching sun, as it will get burned. You can put it in a place where at the peak of the sun the spathiphyllum will be in partial shade. One option is to place a table lamp near the plant (but be careful not to burn the leaves).

We examined the standard techniques, now let's move on to the "stressful" ones. To make a plant bloom, you need to place it for 20 days in stressful (unusual conditions), namely:

  • reduce watering (in the last week you can only moisten the leaves);
  • put in a shade or semi-dark place;
  • lower the temperature to 16-17 ˚С.
After 3 weeks, the flower should be returned to a well-lit place, watered abundantly and fertilized.

This method is based on the contrast of conditions. After an almost maximum permissible regime, the flower is returned to a favorable environment.

Important! The stress method is used if the plant was previously kept in good conditions and did not bloom. Using this method will not harm healthy flowers.

What to do if the leaves turn yellow

A variety of factors can cause the leaves of the spathiphyllum to turn yellow and the plant not to bloom. We will consider the main causes of yellowing of the leaves of a flower.

  1. Flower update. After spending a large amount of energy (during flowering or after an illness), the spathiphyllum goes into a dormant stage. For this reason, the leaves turn yellow and fall off. Thus, the plant recovers faster.
  2. Exposure to direct sunlight. If the flower stood in the scorching sun, then its leaves could burn and turn yellow. Evidence of burns is the appearance of dry brownish-yellow spots on the sheets. Such conditions are stressful for the flower, so you should not wait for flowering in the near future.
  3. Diseases. When affected by a mealy worm, spider mite or thrips, the plant begins to hurt, and the yellowness of the leaves is one of the signs.
  4. Low air humidity. Since the plant is very demanding on moisture, its absence leads to yellowing of the leaves. This should not be allowed so that the flower does not lose too much strength and does not dry out.

Why do the leaves of "female happiness" dry around the edges

If the spathiphyllum leaves begin to turn black at the ends, then the reason is too dry air. In this case, the tips dry out by only 1-2 mm. To get rid of this problem, you need to moisturize the plant more or put it next to the aquarium.

What to do if the plant wilts

It is impossible to say unequivocally why the plant wilts. Consider the main reasons why the spathiphyllum began to "mope".

If the spathiphyllum leaves are deformed, then the reason must be sought in the lighting. With a lack of light, the leaves and petioles of the plant begin to stretch and deform. The lack of proper lighting is the answer to the question: “Why does the spathiphyllum have small leaves?”.

Spathiphyllum is considered a very common and favorite plant. It can be seen in almost every home. In the common people, the flower is called "women's happiness." According to popular belief, he brings happiness to the house of every woman. Obviously, for this reason, many women have such a flower and look forward to when it blooms. According to popular beliefs, with the appearance of flowers on the spathiphyllum, the mistress of the house is considered a happy woman. What to do for those women whose plant does not bloom, and how to find out why? What to do in order to finally bloom the spathiphyllum?

Spathiphyllum and its varieties

This flower is considered an evergreen and belongs to the Aroid family. Exists almost 45 species of spathiphyllum. Some species can grow small, while others reach large sizes. Those species that most often grow at home grow to a maximum height of 40 cm.

The flower has a medium-sized stem, on which smooth rounded bright green leaves are located. The flowers of the plant look like ears of white and cream color, surrounded by a white or greenish petal. This single petal on a thin stem looks very gentle. Its appearance is very feminine, which is why it was called spathiphyllum, which in Greek means “veil” and “leaf”. If you look closely at the inflorescence, it really resembles an elegant white blanket.

The most popular for growing at home several types are considered:

  • charming;
  • profusely flowering;
  • spoon-shaped;
  • cannolist.

The flower is easy to care for and it blooms only twice a year. This usually happens in spring and autumn. In order for it to develop well, it must be placed in a small pot. It needs to be transplanted when the roots in the old container become crowded.

Why does the spathiphyllum not bloom?

The duration of flowering and the abundance of inflorescences will depend on the proper care of the spathiphyllum. Flowering time for this plant starts in mid-spring and continues until late autumn. With the beginning of the winter season, the flower begins a period of rest and rest.

The flower loves warmth, so it is desirable to create comfortable conditions for it to develop well with an optimal temperature of 22-23 ° C. If the room temperature is below +18 ° C, the spathiphyllum will suffer and grow poorly., The leaves will begin to turn yellow. When a flower regularly throws flowers, a caring hostess has nothing to worry about. But what to do when the plant only throws out leaves and does not bloom, and how to make spathiphyllum bloom?

If for a long time the plant does not throw out buds, then there are reasons for that. May affect flowering the following main factors:

  • The flower does not like spacious pots, its roots should tightly braid it, and if this does not happen, the buds will not appear.
  • You can not put the pot under direct sunlight, but you need to choose a place with good lighting.
  • The plant is afraid of drafts and air conditioners, for this reason the leaves turn yellow.
  • Spathiphyllum does not respond well to abundant watering. Its leaves begin to cover with brown spots and gradually the foliage dries.
  • If the air is too dry in the room and insufficient watering, the plant will also not bloom. The humidity level is increased by spraying with a spray bottle. With an insufficient level of humidity, the leaves begin to turn yellow.
  • The flower needs nitrogenous and phosphorus fertilizers, with their lack, it develops poorly. The lack of top dressing is also indicated by yellowness on the deciduous mass.
  • Too old a plant will also not please with flowering. It needs to be planted.
  • Flowering is affected by pests and diseases that may appear due to improper care.

Secrets and subtleties of home care

There are many different nuances in the care of spathiphyllum. Knowing the features of growing a flower, you can achieve regular flowering, the plant will have a healthy and attractive appearance.

Ready for transplant special soil composition of equal parts:

  • leaf part;
  • turf part;
  • sand;
  • peat.

Transplantation must be done carefully so that the root system of the flower does not suffer. After planting, the plant needs frequent watering and spraying. Attentive care and normal conditions will promote good growth.

Spathiphyllum suffers most from pests such as spider mites, scale insects and aphids. They are the most dangerous for a houseplant.

Few housewives know a simple secret - it is better to remove the old leaves of the plant by cutting them off so that new and healthy shoots can quickly form and give buds.

The basic rules for caring for this delicate flower will help the plant bloom for a long time. Only under comfortable conditions will “female happiness” bloom, make it possible to enjoy the magnificent white color and feel happy.

Many of the indoor plants are divided into species. Some classes can be grown exclusively at home outside of aggressive weather. Some may be kept exclusively on the street. There are those that will grow well in difficult environments - even in a greenhouse, even in the yard. By determining which group the plant belongs to, it will be possible to reliably produce the proper climate. Critical maintenance principles consist of ensuring the moisture content of the air, the amount of moisture introduced into the soil, and ensuring a favorable temperature. The sun is one of the main factors.

Possible difficulties in growing spathiphyllum

The reason may be in too spacious a pot. Spathiphyllums bloom when the roots braid the entire pot. The signal for transplantation is the roots that fill the entire volume of the pot with the plant.

Also, the lack of flowering can be the result of too low a content temperature, insufficient humidity, but most often a combination of both. Perhaps the plant is not receiving enough top dressing. If all these problems are solved, then the flower should bloom.

The plant lacks lighting, with too much shading, flowering becomes rare, or stops altogether. On bright windows, the spathiphyllum blooms more abundantly and for a longer time, it is much larger in size, but it should be borne in mind that too bright sun light is harmful to it.

There is another possibility - the plant is old. Such spathiphyllums bloom with difficulty. In this case, you need to divide the bush during transplantation into several parts ...

To achieve abundant flowering, spathiphyllum can be kept for up to 2 weeks in a cool place at a temperature of + 9 + 12 ° C, reducing watering. Then you need to expose to bright light, apply mineral and organic fertilizers, after a month the plant usually begins to bloom. As a rule, the spathiphyllum does not have a pronounced dormant period, but if it is cool in winter, it is reasonable to reduce watering and spraying, and not carry out top dressing at all.

The absence or lack of top dressing is also the reason for the lack of repeated flowering. Excess nitrogen leads to increased leaf growth, the plant blooms poorly. Therefore, a fertilizer with a low nitrogen content but a high potassium content is used. From spring to autumn (during the period of active vegetation), the spathiphyllum must be fed every two weeks with a complete mineral fertilizer of low concentration for flowering plants. The rest of the time once a month.

All flowers are very beautiful, they are even often compared with the beautiful half of humanity - women. But for some reason, only spathiphyllum is called a female indoor flower, although it is not as popular as violets, begonias, phalaenopsis or other indoor plants. You can even meet another name for spathiphyllum - female happiness. This is due to the fact that, according to popular belief, it is this flower that helps unmarried young girls meet their soul mate, and those who have already found her become a mother. And the spathiphyllum flower itself looks very gentle: one snow-white large petal goes around the inflorescence, which has the shape of a cob, as if a woman were covered with a thin veil.

Spathiphyllum belongs to the aroid family. In his homeland, in the tropical forests of South America, you can find about 45 species of this flower. But at home, most flower growers grow profusely flowering Spathiphyllum and Wallis Spathiphyllum. Spathiphyllum profusely flowering is a perennial herbaceous evergreen plant. It reaches a height of 40cm, has a small stem and bright green glossy rounded leaves 15-30cm long. Spathiphyllum Wallis does not have a stem, and the leaves are collected in a rosette. Spathiphyllum flowers are white or cream-colored cobs surrounded by a white or pale green veil, bloom for about a month.

When growing a spathiphyllum, flower growers often encounter the fact that it stops blooming or blooms poorly, and do not know what to do about it. In this article, we will look at the main reasons why the spathiphyllum does not bloom and how to make it bloom.

The usual flowering period of spathiphyllum lasts from mid-spring to late summer, as it blooms often - several times a year. It can even bloom for eight to nine months, it depends on the age of the plant, care and lighting. For better flowering, it should be placed on the eastern windows. In order to cause another flowering in the spathiphyllum, after the end of the previous flowering period, you need to cut off the faded peduncles with a sharp knife as low as possible to the base.

Reasons why spathiphyllum does not bloom:

  • inappropriate placement;
  • grows in a too spacious pot;
  • excess moisture in the ground;
  • lack or lack of nutrition.

How to make spathiphyllum bloom?

By adhering to the basic rules for caring for a spathiphyllum and eliminating the reasons why it does not bloom, your "female happiness" will delight you with its flowering every year.

Spathiphyllum is an indoor flower, which is also called "Women's Happiness". There are more than 45 plant species. In the wild, plants of this species prefer high humidity and grow along rivers and marshy soils. It was first cultivated in Europe since the 19th century.

The flower fits well into any interior and has a long flowering period. But what to do if he refuses to bloom?

Interesting! The name of the flower consists of two Greek words: spathe - means "veil" in translation, and phyllon - "leaf". And indeed, when you look at the inflorescence of this plant, it seems as if the petal of the flower covers the peduncle with seeds.

Features of flowering

The flower itself is the “cob”. In the case of pollination, it may form fruits.

Flowering can be divided into two stages. At the first stage, pollen is formed in the plant and the first phase begins - the female one.

The second stage is the male phase, the anthers open at the flower, the inflorescences cease to perceive pollen. This process interferes with self-pollination.

How often does it bloom?

Usually "Women's happiness" blooms once a year. Blooms around March-April. For some hostesses, spathiphyllum blooms twice a year. The second flowering occurs in autumn. The duration of the process depends on the conditions created for the plant. For some flower growers, "Women's Happiness" pleases with flowers for 4-5 months.

Flowering conditions

Now let's talk about the conditions of keeping the flower, since it directly depends on them whether the pet will start to give flower stalks or not.

Temperature

The optimum temperature for the flower will be 18-20 degrees. In summer, it is allowed to rise up to 27 degrees. Temperatures above 32 degrees have a detrimental effect on "Women's happiness". A sharp decrease in the regime adversely affects the plant, but it is able to survive a short-term drop to 13 degrees.

Attention! In order to cause flowering, it is necessary to create a temperature regime for the flower in the region of 17-20 degrees within 2-3 months.

Air humidity

In the natural environment, spathiphyllum grows in conditions of high humidity, and therefore at home humidity around 50% is required.

In the summer, it is advisable to spray a flowerpot with a flower at least 3 times a week, with soft settled water at room temperature.

Lighting

The flower is contraindicated in direct sunlight, which can cause burns. Need diffused light, moderate lighting. Needs bright light in winter. Tolerates partial shade well. If the leaves become smaller, this can be considered a signal of a lack of light.

Location

Western and eastern windows are best suited. It also tolerates shade well, so you can put it on the northern windowsill. South windows should be avoided, or shading should be created so that there are no burns and drying out of the leaves.

Attention! Drafts are detrimental to "Women's Happiness". It is not recommended to put a flowerpot where windows often open.

Why doesn't it bloom?

There are several reasons why a flower refuses to bloom.

  1. The plant lacks nutrients. The earth in the pot is depleted and top dressing is needed.
  2. The roots of the plant are rotten and in poor condition.
  3. On the contrary, an excess of fertilizer. The introduced nitrogen fertilizers make it possible to increase the green mass of the spathiphyllum, but at the same time do not contribute to the formation of flower buds.
  4. “Women's happiness lacks soil moisture or the flower is simply flooded.
  5. The plant stands in a place where there are constant drafts.
  6. The flower has outgrown the flowerpot and needs a transplant.
  7. Wrong pot selected. The container with the plant is too large, until the roots fill all the space provided, flowering may not occur.
  8. The lighting does not suit the flower, there is either an excess of sunlight, or vice versa, too much shade.
  9. The plant is still too young, or is under stress after a transplant, or a change of location.
  10. Ripe peduncles were incorrectly cut, or vice versa, their removal did not occur. The signal that the peduncle needs to be cut off is a change in the color of the petal, next to the cob. It should turn cream or light green.
  11. Perhaps your pet was struck by pests, or the plant is sick.

Attention! Spathiphyllum is very fond of top dressing.

How to make it bloom?

First of all, you need to identify the reason why the plant stopped blooming. Check out the points above, maybe something of the above gives a similar effect.

If you are sure that you are properly caring for the plant, and it refuses to release buds, then we offer you several ways to induce flowering in the plant.

1st way

We remove the plant from bright light and put the pot in light partial shade. 2-3 weeks watering is not performed. When the leaves begin to fall down a little, you definitely need to follow this moment.

Water the flower a little, and keep it dry for another week.

Then we begin to introduce top dressing into the diet of the flower. Once a week, we begin to feed the plant with fertilizer. One subcortex should be organic, the second mineral, and so we alternate. In a month, the spathiphyllum should bloom.

2nd way

In autumn, we find a cool room in the house, but where the temperature is not lower than 15 degrees. We move the plant there. Watering in this case is rarely carried out, otherwise the tips of the leaves may begin to turn black, the plant will start to hurt.

After about a month, the plant is placed in a warm place, the flower will begin to bloom again.

Care during flowering

  • During flowering, the plant spends more energy, so as soon as buds begin to form, the plant needs to be fed.
  • During flowering, we water more often, but at the same time we make sure that there is no waterlogging.
  • During this period, the plant needs bright diffused light.
  • The temperature should be around 20 degrees.
  • If the air is dry, then the plant must be additionally sprayed with a spray bottle.

Care after flowering

When the plant has faded, dried flower stalks must be cut off at the very base, otherwise the plant may refuse to bloom in the future.

If roots are visible from the container, then the flower must be transplanted into a larger container. We transplant the spathiphyllum into a pot, which is 1-2 cm larger than the previous one. Young flowers are transshipped once a year, older plants once every 3 years.

On a note! Transplanting is always stressful for the plant, therefore it is carried out only as needed.

Necessary top dressing

In the period from spring to autumn, top dressing is applied 1 time in 2 weeks.

In winter, the frequency of fertilization increases to once a week.

For top dressing, you need to use both organic and mineral fertilizers.

We choose mineral fertilizers without admixture of lime. The fertilizer concentration should not be high.

It is better to take special top dressings, but top dressings are also suitable: "Flower", "Azalivye". You can also use complex formulations.

From organic fertilizers, you can use tea leaves from tea or coffee.

Transplant influence

Sometimes spathiphyllum does not bloom because there is too little space in the pot. In this case, you need to transplant the plant into a larger container.

The pot when transplanting should be larger by about 1.5-2 cm in diameter. Otherwise, until the flower fills the entire allocated space with roots, it will not bloom.

A rare transplant causes soil depletion, the roots receive less oxygen, and rotting of the root system may occur.

Be sure to add drainage to the bottom of the pot, otherwise the excess moisture will not go away, and the plant will begin to die. The soil mixture is best purchased at a specialized store.

It is not advisable to transplant a flowering plant. If it became necessary to transplant, for example, you recently purchased a plant, then we transplant “Women's Happiness” as carefully as possible so as not to damage the roots.

Diseases and pests

A flower damaged by diseases or pests may not bloom. Consider the most common ailments.

Aphid. It can be of different colors: white, green, black. It feeds mainly on plant juices. Located at the bottom of the flower.

Foliage curling or drying out may indicate the presence of these pests. The danger of the pest is that it spreads quickly and can infect other plants. The fight can be carried out with the help of special preparations.

Spider mite. The tick has a red color. Lives on the underside of the foliage. Gradually, the pest covers the plant with a sticky liquid and a cobweb, in fact, you can recognize the pest from it. You can fight it with a solution of tobacco and soap. Or insecticides.

Answers on questions

Why does it only release leaves?

If the spathiphyllum actively forms foliage, but does not bloom, then this indicates that you overdid it with nitrogen fertilizers. It is necessary to reduce nitrogen-containing top dressing.

What time does it bloom?

Traditionally, flowering occurs in April and continues until August. But for some flower growers, "Women's Happiness" blooms a second time in the fall. It also blooms in February. It all depends on the conditions you create.

Why is it blooming green?

Most often, white flowers can be found in spathiphyllums, but it happens that the plant blooms green. This indicates the varietal features of the flower. For example, the variety "Charming" initially has a greenish color.

Also, the flower turns green when its flowering period comes to an end.

Too bright sun can also give a similar effect in white varieties. Sometimes abundant top dressing also makes the buds turn green.
