Foam concrete blocks quantity calculation online. Calculator for building a house from foam blocks

Calculating the number of foam blocks for a house is one of the tasks that must be solved before construction begins. There are several ways to do this: use specialized programs, online calculators, ask more experienced comrades for help, or rely on your own strength and do everything yourself. We suggest that you familiarize yourself with the phased calculation of building a house from foam blocks in this article.

What is taken into account when calculating foam blocks for building a house?

To calculate the construction of a house from foam blocks correctly, you need to know the length, thickness and height of all walls (external and internal) and the same dimensions of one foam block. First you need to calculate the required number of foam blocks around the perimeter of the building, and then proceed to find the amount of material for the interior walls.

Calculation of the number of foam blocks in one row along the perimeter of the building

Suppose there is a house with four walls, dimensions of 10 × 10 meters and a height of 3 meters. First you need to find the number of blocks in one row around the perimeter. To do this, the total length of the walls is calculated (10 + 10 + 10 + 10 = 40). The resulting value is divided by the length of one foam block. Let's use blocks with dimensions of 20 cm x 30 cm x 50 cm (H*W*D). Then you need to divide 40 by 0.5 (50 centimeters must be converted to meters). We get the number 80. That is how many blocks will be needed to lay out the first row of the house with dimensions (10 × 10 meters) around the perimeter.

Calculating the number of rows

The number of rows is easy to find. To do this, the value of the height of the wall is divided by the height of the foam block. Our block height is twenty centimeters, and the walls are three meters. Therefore, you need to divide 3 by 0.2 (we translate centimeters into meters), we get 15. 15 rows must be laid out to get the height of the house at three meters.

Finding the total number of foam blocks

The number of blocks in one row and the number of rows found. It remains only to multiply these values and get the total amount of building material for building a house. So, we multiply 15 by 80, we get 1200. That is how many blocks it will take to lay out the outer walls, three meters high and dimensions (W * H) 10 × 10.

In addition to walls, houses have window and door openings, so the amount of material can be reduced.

If the house has complex architectural forms (walls with curves, etc.), then all its parts are measured separately, summarized, and then the number of blocks is calculated.

If you already have a house and you decide to slightly expand the area, then we recommend that you familiarize yourself with the construction of an extension to the house from foam blocks. The article contains step-by-step instructions for building an extension.

The cost of foam blocks

The price of blocks depends on their size, density, manufacturer and some other parameters. The average cost of one block is 90-130 rubles, and one cubic meter of products is 2500-3000 rubles. A bag of glue for foam blocks (25 kilograms) will cost 200-300 rubles. Approximately 25-28 kilograms of glue will be required for laying one cubic meter of foam blocks.

How to calculate the cost of a house from foam blocks?

The calculation of the cost of a house from foam blocks depends on several parameters:

 • Its location
 • Type of infrastructure
 • squares
 • Number of floors
 • Additional materials
 • Workforce qualifications and other factors

The average cost of building a foam block house is 13,000-16,000 rubles per square meter. If you plan to build, you can save money allocated for workers. However, if you do not have the proper experience, then we do not recommend doing this. During the construction process, you can make many mistakes for which you will have to pay an additional price. The main thing is to choose the right developer company.

A feature of this building material is the fact that different manufacturers can produce foam blocks of various sizes, differing in length, width and height.

The most common size of foam blocks used for laying the exterior walls of a building is 60x30x20cm or 60x40x20, and for the installation of internal partitions - 60x30x10cm.

When constructing external walls, as a rule, methods of laying a foam block on a bed or spoons are used. With a foam block size of 60x30x20cm, the wall thickness is 30 or 20cm, respectively, and with a size of 60x40x20cm - 40 or 20cm. In Russian climatic conditions, for the construction of residential buildings, a wall thickness of at least 30 cm is usually used.

For the construction of partitions, a special foam block measuring 60x30x10cm is mainly used, which is placed on a spoon. In this case, the thickness of such partitions is 10 cm.

The procedure for calculating the number of foam blocks

The calculation of the number of foam blocks can be carried out in two main ways:

 • Without taking into account the thickness of the mortar joint.
 • Taking into account the thickness of the seam, which according to the technology should be 5 mm.

For clarity, we calculate the number of foam blocks needed to build a particular house.

Condition of the problem: It is necessary to build a house from a foam block 7 by 10m, with a wall height of 3m and without internal partitions. In the outer walls there is one doorway 0.9 by 2m and three openings for windows 1.3 by 1.5m. External walls are made of foam block 60x30x20 in size with a mortar joint thickness of 5mm. Wall thickness 30cm.

First you need to determine the total area of all the walls, minus the openings. For this:

 • The perimeter of the outer walls is calculated: (7 + 10) * 2 = 34m.
 • The total area of the walls of the house is determined: 34 * 3 = 102 sq.m.
 • The total area of all window and door openings is calculated: (0.9 * 2) + (1.3 * 1.5) * 3 = 7.65 sq.m.
 • The area of the walls is calculated with the deduction of openings: 102-7.65 = 94.35 sq.m.

Then the outer surface area of one foam block is determined by multiplying its length by the height (thickness). According to the first method, it turns out: 0.6 * 0.2 = 0.12 sq.m. According to the second method, 5 mm are added to the existing values (thickness of the mortar joint): (0.6 + 0.005) * (0.2 + 0.005) = 0.125 sq.m.

After that, the required number of foam blocks is calculated by dividing the total area of the walls, minus openings, by the area of one foam block. According to the first method, it turns out: 94.35 / 0.12 = 786.25 i.e. approximately 787 pieces. According to the second method, it turns out: 94.35 / 0.125 = 754.8 i.e. approximately 755 pieces.

As can be seen from this example, the difference between the number of foam blocks calculated using these two methods is 32 pieces. Thus, the second method is more economical, but the resulting value should be increased by about 2% to account for marriage and damage during transportation and installation of foam blocks.

Material Advantages

The construction of any object begins with the preparation of a project and an estimate. And if experts are involved in the calculation of the required amount of materials in production, then when building a private house or other buildings on their own, the developer has to do this himself. How to correctly calculate the number of foam blocks when erecting a private building from this particular material? Solving such an important task when building a house or outbuilding is not at all difficult if you know and take into account several important nuances.

Foamed concrete is currently a fairly popular material. It is indispensable where it is impossible to use other types of building materials - brick, stone, wood.

Foam blocks are used, depending on their brand, to solve different types of problems:

 • Construction of basement levels.
 • Construction of load-bearing internal and external walls.
 • Creating partitions.
 • Masonry contour additional layer.

The reason for such a high popularity of foam concrete blocks is their merits. This:

 • Ecological cleanliness - sand, cement and foaming agent are used for the manufacture of blocks.
 • Heat-saving properties. The porous structure is an excellent barrier to cold and heat, thanks to which a stable temperature is maintained in the house.
 • Resistance to chemical mixtures, fire, temperature changes.
 • Light weight, which allows the material to be used for the construction of buildings on unstable soils and not to create heavy, powerful foundations for them.
 • Installation speed. Products are much larger than bricks, so the laying of walls will be carried out much faster.
 • Ease of processing. Foam blocks, if necessary, can be easily shortened to obtain an element of the desired size. In addition, it is easy to create channels in them to lay pipes, electrical wiring and other communications.

Any construction begins with calculations, an important part of which is determining the amount of building material used. The foam block calculator will help make calculations easy and fast, you only need to substitute the initial values into the menu items.

The purpose of the calculator

Manual calculations will take a lot of time, an error may creep in, and if you need to change at least one parameter, then all calculations will have to be done again. In turn, the calculator for calculating foam blocks for building a house does it instantly, the user can change the parameters a hundred times, until he gets an exhaustive vision of his task. In addition, the online calculator gives several important parameters at once, including not only the piece number of blocks, but their volume, glue weight, which will be useful when buying and transporting materials.

Additional information will be the calculations of the amount of reinforcing mesh and mortar, if it is decided to use it instead of glue. For the mortar, the exact weights of cement, sand and water are also calculated for maximum masonry strength.

Calculator functions

The calculator for building a house from foam blocks contains a number of basic and additional functions for detailed calculations. Additional options are optional.

The entire calculation of the foam block for masonry is drawn up in the form of an understandable and concise document, where the user sees the input parameters and calculation results on one page. For clarity, the information is grouped into blocks.

Main functions

 • Block dimensions (as a rule, sizes are standard)
 • Density (the greater the density, the colder and stronger the material.
 • The thickness of the seam (the thickness of the seam must be made minimal to reduce cold bridges)
 • Wall thickness (wall thickness for the house should not be less than 30 cm without additional insulation)
 • Wall area

For all graphs, a set of parameters standard for the foam block is provided. Plus, for block sizes, you can enter your own values, which makes it possible to calculate the number of blocks of any size.

Additional functions

 • Wall area, including doors, windows, gables
 • Reinforcing mesh that can be replaced with reinforcement
 • cement mortar

For the mortar, an indication of the proportions of cement and sand is available, which is necessary for different brands of cement.

The foam block is a popular modern building material, which is characterized by low cost, ease of processing, low density and low thermal conductivity. A kind of artificial stone, cellular concrete, which is produced by mixing cement mortar with a foaming agent. Due to the availability of technology, there is a semi-handicraft production of foam blocks. This fact requires the buyer to be especially careful when choosing a quality supplier.

To estimate the cost of building a private house or non-residential structure, it is necessary to accurately determine the required amount of material used in construction. One of the most common and popular materials for the construction of load-bearing internal and external walls, as well as partitions, is the foam block. There are two ways to calculate the required number of foam blocks - using an online calculator, or using your own calculations.

Calculation using an online calculator

Using this calculator, you can calculate the required number, as well as the parameters of the foam blocks used in the construction of walls in private houses and other structures. This takes into account the openings reserved for windows and doors, as well as the possible presence of facades. In addition, this calculator allows you to determine the weight, volume and price of the blocks used, the amount of cement required for the joints, the area of the reinforcing mesh and other building materials.

Calculator

To obtain accurate information about the volume of building material, it is required to fill in all the data as completely as possible. First of all, you need to specify the parameters of the foam block used - its dimensions and density. Then fields are filled in with information on the dimensions of the structure itself - the length, height and thickness of the walls, as well as the parameters of related materials (mortar thickness, frequency of the masonry mesh). Knowing the price of one cube of foam block, you can calculate the total cost of all building material.

Calculation results

After filling in all the data, and clicking on the "calculation" button, the online calculator will display the following data:

 • The perimeter of the building is the exact length of all the walls of the building, taking into account the thickness of the foam block;
 • Total masonry area - openings for window and door openings are taken into account;
 • Wall thickness - a parameter depending on the type of masonry, as well as the thickness of the cement joint;
 • Number of blocks - the total number of foam blocks in pieces;
 • The total weight of the blocks - the mass of additional materials (reinforcing mesh, mortar) is not taken into account, allows you to choose the best delivery option;
 • The amount of mortar for the entire masonry - the total volume of cement mortar;
 • The number of rows, taking into account the seams - when calculating the gable is not taken into account;
 • The amount of masonry mesh. The mesh provides reinforcement of the wall structure, increasing its strength characteristics. The default is to use a grid on each row;
 • Approximate weight of finished walls - the weight of blocks, mesh and cement is taken into account;
 • The load on the foundation from the walls is a parameter that allows you to determine the parameters of the foundation. The calculation does not take into account the weight of the roof, insulation and finishing materials.

Using this calculator, you can also determine the required amount of building material for interior partitions. To do this, you need to reset all data on the bearing walls, and enter the parameters of the partitions. Add up the results for the two calculations.

Independent calculation of the number of blocks

Unfortunately, the online calculator does not always allow you to take into account all the parameters of the structure, and you need to do the calculations yourself. To do this, you need to know the dimensions of the house and internal partitions, the thickness of all walls, the dimensions of the openings for doors and windows. Given the fact that foam blocks are perfectly processed, almost all cut pieces can be effectively used in construction. However, the reserve for the battle should still be done.

Foam blocks today are presented in a huge assortment, and differ both in their overall dimensions and in strength characteristics. The choice of one or another type of block, as well as the type of masonry, depends on the required thickness of the walls in the building. There are several ways to carry out laying - on a bed, or block spoons, in 1, 1.5 and 2 blocks. During the construction of external walls, internal load-bearing walls, as well as partitions that do not experience loads, various types of blocks or masonry methods should be used.

For the construction of external walls, foam blocks are most often used, with a size of 600x300x200mm or 600x400x200mm. Any masonry can be used, but the total wall thickness should not be less than 300 mm. For internal walls that are loaded from the side of the roof, exactly the same blocks are used. As a material for interior partitions, foam blocks are most often used, 600x300x100mm in size, laid on a spoon. The thickness of the wall is 100mm.

Given these dimensions, it is easy to calculate that one block used for the construction of load-bearing walls occupies a volume of 0.036 cubic meters, and for partitions - 0.018 cubic meters. Knowing the dimensions of the walls (thickness, width and height), you can calculate their volume. Further, dividing this number by the volume of one block, we obtain the total number of blocks for each wall. If there are window or door openings in the wall, find out their total volume and subtract from the result.

Also, when calculating the volume of blocks required for the construction, it is necessary to take into account the thickness of the cement joint. To do this, you should know the number of blocks along the height and along the length of the wall. To obtain the volume of mortar between rows, it is necessary to multiply the number of these rows by the thickness, total length and width of the joint. To find out the volume of cement along the length of the wall, multiply the same dimensions of the seam by the number of blocks that fit in one row. Sum up the received data. After that, the total volume of the seams is subtracted from the volume of the walls.

The same manipulations are carried out with internal load-bearing walls and partitions. To the total resulting number of foam blocks, we add 5-7% for the battle during construction, and about 3% for damage during transportation (may be absent altogether).

An example of calculating the number of foam blocks

Suppose that we are faced with the task of building a house from a foam block, which has the following overall dimensions: 10x7x3 m. The house has one room (no internal partitions), there is one door (2x0.9m) and three windows (1.3x1.5m each) . The thickness of the walls should be 30 cm, and the thickness of the seams vertically and horizontally - 5 mm each. It is necessary to determine the required number of foam blocks for the construction of such a house.

As a material, we choose foam blocks, 600X300X200mm in size, because. the thickness of the walls should be 30 cm. Next, you need to calculate the total area of the walls. To do this, we find the perimeter of the outer walls 7 + 7 + 10 + 10 = 34 sq.m and multiply this number by the height of the wall (3m) - 34x3 = 102 sq.m. At the same time, we did not take into account that the house has three more windows and a door. Therefore, we find the area of these openings - 3x (1.3x1.5) + (2x9) = 7.65 sq.m. Subtract from the total area of the walls the area of the openings - 102-7.65=94.35 sq.m.

Given the fact that only walls of the same thickness are used in the calculation, there is no need to find their volume. It is enough to find out only the area of one foam block, taking into account the thickness of the cement joint, and then divide the total area of the house by this number. So, the outer area of the foam block, taking into account the seam, is - (0.6 + 0.005) x (0.2 + 0.005) = 0.125 sq.m. The total number of required blocks is 94.35 sq.m / 0.125 sq.m = 755 pieces.

We multiply the resulting number of blocks by 8% (combat and marriage during transportation), we get 816 blocks. This example is elementary, because it involves only external load-bearing walls, and also masonry is used in one block. If the house had internal walls and partitions, they could be calculated separately.

Knowing the required number of foam blocks and their parameters, it will not be difficult to calculate their volume, weight, and also the number of pallets. In accordance with these data, it will be possible to choose the most optimal type of transportation.

No proper construction is complete without preliminary design and calculations. Most people prefer to entrust such a mission to specialists and not particularly bother. But the services of the latter are not so cheap and it is likely that you will want to do all the work yourself.

If there is such a desire and building a house from foam blocks (well, or other block material), you can arm yourself with this article. In it, we will tell you how to find out how many foam blocks will go to the construction of a structure with certain dimensions, whether it is a house 6x8, 9x9, 10x10 or more.

If you have doubts about your mathematical abilities and the ability to carry out calculations, then it is better to turn to a professional or just a person who knows mathematics.

A little about design

It seems that the construction plan indirectly affects the amount of material, but this is not at all the case. In order to calculate everything correctly, you need to clearly know all the dimensions of the building (the height of the walls, the parameters of the partitions, etc.). And such information is clearly described in the project documentation. Let's see what data from the project is needed for the future calculation:

 • Let's take a look at the box first. It will be necessary to clearly know the length of all the walls of the house and their height. For example, let's take the same house 10 by 10. In this case, all 4 walls will be the same.
 • You also need to calculate the amount of material for internal partitions and load-bearing walls. Their number may vary depending on the presence of a second floor or attic.
 • Well, it certainly won’t hurt to look at how many doors and windows are planned in the building - door and window structures will be used directly for their construction in the box, and not a foam block.

When planning, it is necessary to plan the location of communications and immediately separate all the pipes even before the construction of the house has begun.

Suppose that the necessary information in order to calculate everything is already at hand.

Let's start the calculations

To say exactly how many foam blocks will go to the house without preliminary calculations will not work. Therefore, we will give a specific example of the calculation, and using it as an example, simply by changing the numbers, you can find out the need for the material in your case.

Take a two-story cottage, each floor of which will be 2.5 m high and all walls 10 m long. The layout is identical: 1 load-bearing wall and partitions made of light blocks. For the construction of external walls, we will use a foam block 600x400x200 (length, width, height).

To quickly carry out a simple calculation, you can use special services on some sites, but not all of them are simple and not all of them make an accurate calculation.

Getting started:

Having learned the area of the first floor, it is already necessary to directly proceed to the calculation of the number of blocks:

 1. In order to calculate everything correctly, we first find out the volume of one block that will be used to build walls. You just need to multiply all its sides and in a particular case it will look like this: 0.6 x 0.4 x 0.2 = 0.048 m 3.
 2. Now we divide the total area indicator by this value (49.2 / 0.048) and get 1025 pcs. That is how much you need to build a house, but this is still inconclusive data.

To check the correctness of the calculation, you need to divide 1 by the volume of a particular foam block (this is how we find out how many pieces are in a cube) and multiply the resulting value by the indicator of the total area of the structure: 1 / 0.048 = 20.83 x 49.2 = 1025 pieces. It turns out that everything is calculated correctly.

But the amount received does not quite reflect the real picture, since there will still be window and door openings that need to be calculated for an accurate purchase.

Consider window and door openings

They also need to be considered:

 • Suppose there will be 10 windows with dimensions of 100 by 100 cm. We take a width of 100 cm, a height of 100 cm, translate them into meters and multiply: 1 x 1 = 1 sq. M. Now we find out the total area of windows: 10 x 1 = 10 m 2 .
 • We also find out the area of the doorway. Suppose that its height is 2 m, and its width is 1 m. It turns out 2 sq. m. And if there are two doors, then 4 sq. m, etc.
 • We find out the total area of the openings 10 + 4 = 14 m 2.
 • We minus this value from the total area of the structure: 123 - 14 = 109 m 2.
 • We translate into cubic meters: 109 x 0.4 = 43.6 m 3.
 • We find out the number of blocks by dividing the previous figure by the volume of the foam block: 43.6 / 0.048 = 908.3 pcs.

It turns out that the real need for blocks for the first floor is less by 116.7 pieces, which is almost 6 cubes (20.83 blocks in one cube). Total: 6 x 3 thousand rubles = 18 thousand rubles of net savings and this is only half of the design.

The calculation of the second floor is carried out according to a similar principle, and it makes no sense to duplicate the values. But we recommend that you calculate everything separately - the number and size of openings on different floors may vary.

After all the calculations, it is necessary to add a percentage for "breakage" and "scrap", since part of the building materials can be damaged during transportation and handling operations, and the other during the construction process. It is difficult to say how many blocks you will reject, but it is usually from 5 to 10%.

The above method will help you find out exactly how many blocks you need to buy to build a house. Always consider the ratio of the walls (maybe 6x8, etc.), as well as the dimensions of the blocks (standard - 600x300x200). The calculations did not take into account the width of the seams, but modern foam block laying technology involves the use of glue, so the deviations will be insignificant.
