Built-in wardrobe. How to make a wardrobe from a lining with your own hands

A balcony is a rather small space, during the arrangement of which almost everyone has a question: how to use it for good and for convenience?

Most often it is used as a small recreation area or for storing rarely used items. But the most difficult thing is to organize this small space in such a way that it does not look like a dump. To do this, you need to equip a closet on the balcony.

The most practical and easiest way to make it yourself is to use lining. It will look especially impressive if the entire balcony is also sheathed with wooden clapboard.

The durability of the cabinet on the balcony

In order for the closet on the balcony to look harmonious, it is better to sew up one of the sides and make it directly in this niche. On the loggia, this is easier to do, because any of the short sides is already the back wall of the cabinet. But before starting the installation and installation of the cabinet, the balcony needs to be prepared.

Firstly, it makes sense to put a closet on the balcony only if it is glazed, because the impact of the external environment will significantly reduce its service life.

Yes, and it will be ridiculous to look at the closet on the open balcony, except for the case when it is just a small pedestal along the height of the railing. However, moisture, temperature changes and sunlight will quickly make it unusable.

Secondly, it is very important to prepare the floor and the wall to which the cabinet will be mounted. The less temperature fluctuations on the balcony, the longer the storage space will last. Therefore, it would be optimal if the balcony is insulated. And on the floor under the cabinet, you can lay an additional sheet of OSB.

Only after preparation can proceed directly to the installation of the cabinet.

Tools and materials for cabinet making

So, for the manufacture of a reliable and beautiful cabinet, you will need:

  • wooden bars 40x40 mm - for the cabinet frame;
  • thin bars - for the door frame;
  • lining;
  • metal corners;
  • boards for cabinet shelves;
  • fittings (handles, hinges, lock, etc.);
  • nails, screws, kleimers.

Bars for the frame can be taken from inexpensive tree species, such as pine, they will still be hidden. However, the quality of the beams should be good, only dry and clean wood.

If the cabinet will be fully built-in, that is, its walls will be the walls of the balcony, then you need to prepare long anchor bolts with which the cabinet frame will be attached to the walls.

What tools will be needed in the course of work:

  • drill;
  • screwdriver;
  • a hammer;
  • saw;
  • level and tape measure.

Calculation and selection of necessary materials

First of all, before starting work, you need to decide on the lining from which the cabinet will be made. The best thing for this is lining from trees that do not emit resin - linden, cedar, ash or oak. The more expensive the lining and the higher its class, the more beautiful the cabinet will look, and the more durable it will be.

After all, the quality of lining is also the quality of its processing. But it is still not recommended to purchase lining of the lowest class C, since it is not suitable for sheathing in terms of its functional features. Therefore, how much money to spend on cabinet materials is the choice and decision of each craftsman.

How to calculate the amount of materials needed for the cabinet? Let's say its depth will be 50 cm, the width of the cabinet - along the width of the balcony - about a meter, and the height - 1.8 m. For the upper frame, you will need 2x0.5 + 2x1 \u003d 3 m / pg of bars, and the same for the lower frame. And also 4 vertical racks of 1.8 m each - 7.2 m / rm. That is, in total you need about 14 mpog bars for the frame.

To calculate the required amount of lining, you need to consider whether the cabinet will have walls, or whether they are the walls of the balcony. In the second case, lining is needed only for sheathing cabinet doors. Of course, when purchasing all the necessary materials, you need to take a small margin, taking into account possible marriage or an error in the calculations. It’s better to use the rest of the materials somewhere later than to go to buy the missing piece.

The back wall of the cabinet is best closed with a laminated fiberboard. This will increase the moisture resistance of the cabinet, and it will last longer.

Cabinet assembly and cladding

To assemble the cabinet frame, first mount the front and rear cabinet frames. To do this, you need to connect the bars with metal corners. The connection of the bars can be done without the use of corners, but then self-tapping screws no shorter than 60mm will be needed.

50cm bars are attached to the frame, they are also fixed with anchor bolts. Then the front frame is attached to them.

In order to make the structure more rigid and durable, the front frame can also be fixed to the walls and floor. Next, shelves are placed inside the cabinet.

Sheathing cabinet clapboard

If the walls of the cabinet are the walls of the balcony, then the sheathing of the cabinet with clapboard will consist only in the sheathing of the door. At the same time, the lining should be as thin and light as possible.

First you need to make a light frame of thin bars. The dimensions of the frame correspond to the dimensions of the future door and should be equal to half the front frame of the cabinet itself. To make the door more durable, you can add a peppered timber. Next, we attach the lining to the frame, you need to do this with small carnations. After that, a handle and hinges are attached, as well as decorative trim, if provided.

When the door is completely ready and sheathed, the hinges are attached to the frame on the other side and the door is hung on the cabinet. The final stage is the mandatory processing of wooden lining with varnish or paint. The first option is more preferable, since the color and structure of natural wood will be preserved, which in itself looks very beautiful. In addition, varnishing will extend the life of the lining.

Thus, making a convenient, practical and beautiful wardrobe on the balcony with your own hands is not so difficult, and the result is certainly worth the effort.

Repairing a balcony is not only an opportunity to find many forgotten things, but also a way to improve your life. After completing the main activity, you need to fill the balcony with the necessary furniture, which must have a small mass. The cabinet on the balcony of the lining is made quite easily, and the terms of its operation are limited only by the desire of the owner.

If the balcony cladding is made of wood, then a wooden cabinet made of natural wood will look good on it, i.e. lining.

Start manufacturing

Tools and materials:

  • wood saw;
  • beam;
  • roulette.

Most balconies have a special niche in which you can build a wardrobe, which greatly facilitates the process. But often it is necessary to form a product out of the blue, which is much more difficult, although the result is more interesting (this option will be considered, since it includes both cases).

First you need to measure the area that the cabinet from the lining will occupy. It is desirable to measure the maximum width (usually 90 cm). But the depth should be up to 60 cm, because otherwise it is very inconvenient to reach the end.

For the frame, a bar of 50x50 mm is used, which you need to cut now:

  • vertical bars 190 cm - 4 pcs.;
  • bars for forming a frame 80 cm - 14 pcs. 50 cm - 14 pcs.

The result is a fairly large set. However, every last detail will be used. The frame in this case is not only the formation of external features, but also the basis for each future shelf based on a height of 30 cm (the height of a can is 3 liters - 23.6 cm + space for free hand movement).

For doors, you can use a board or bar. But since the closet on the balcony is made of lining, then it will go as a frame for doors: 4 pcs. 189 cm and 4 pcs. 45 cm each. Oblique cuts (45 °) are made at the ends so that the future joint has maximum reliability.

Assembly and complete finishing

Tools and materials:

  • beam;
  • edged board;
  • lining;
  • roulette;
  • screwdriver;
  • jigsaw;
  • galvanized hinges;
  • screws;
  • brush;

Now the design can be assembled with your own hands. It should be remembered that the whole system rests precisely on 4 bars. No more than 1 element touches the floor, so the workflow looks like this:

  1. Vertical bars are installed in their places, after which 4 bars are laid between them from below (short on the sides, long in front and behind). The lower bars are at a height of 1 cm above the floor. For fixing, 1 long screw is enough, under which narrow holes are initially drilled to avoid splitting. If there is a great desire to strengthen the structure to the limit, then you can use 2 screws per joint.
  2. The upper part of the skeleton is fixed in a similar way, after which the future cabinet takes on its shape (it is no longer necessary to indent from the top).
  3. When the box is formed, you can begin to strengthen it. After 30 cm from the lower beam, a similar perimeter must be fixed, after which the whole procedure is repeated to the very top. The top shelf will be slightly larger than the others, so you can use it not only for cans, but also for massive accessories.

Now the skeleton of the future design is completely ready, and it is time to use a cut board or a dense plate (chipboard). At the borders, installation is carried out using screws of medium length, and the method remains as described above (a small hole is drilled, followed by fixation). Each board has 1 screw on each side (solely to hold the location). But if you need to save on everything, then you can fix only the front and back boards, and correct the rest during operation or screw them on after.

Only now is the time to assemble the doors (the structure is assembled on screws in the manner described above) and attach them to the resulting box. Fixation is made on furniture door hinges made of galvanized steel, which will not remind of themselves even 20 years after installation. The design does not need to be made massive or complicate it, because this will not work.

And now it's time to sheathe the clapboard. The length of the lining is always identical (189 cm), since installation is carried out only from the front side. If there is a desire to sheathe the entire structure in a circle, then you will have to stock up on clapboard to the maximum, but even here the length will remain until the last moment.

The most inconvenient is the installation of 1 board, because there is nothing to catch on. It is set according to the level, after which self-tapping screws cut into the tooth in increments of 30 cm. You can also screw them in without pre-drilling (although it is still desirable), but by all means into a load-bearing bar. On the reverse side, kleimers are attached, which are also screwed to the bars, but only at 4 points (on the doors - and at all only from above and below), since more is not required for reliability.

Each next board is inserted with a spike into the groove until it stops, after which a bar is attached from the back side and pushed to the limit with gentle hammer blows. The final fixation on the kleimers is always the same.

Shelves on the balcony will help in the rationalization of space. If you close the hinged shelves with doors, you can get a closet almost built into the niche of the loggia. Mounted models or folding, wooden, glass or original, the shelves differ from each other and according to the principle of openness: some of them can be open, others closed. Depending on the design of the balcony, its dimensions, one or another model should be selected.

For an open balcony, folding structures or hinged ones, forming a whole rack, are suitable. A closed balcony gives more room for imagination, since weather conditions are unlikely to affect the products. By the way, if the balcony is closed, but not heated, that is, in the cold season, the temperature in the room is much lower than at home, you should stock up on moisture-resistant materials for the shelves - high-quality processed wood or stainless metal.

Let's talk about these horizontal elements: materials, fastening methods, what you need to create shelves with your own hands and how to think of a functional and durable design for a loggia.

materials

  • Chipboard famous for its cheapness and practicality. Shelves made of chipboard are very simple, the easy-to-work material allows you to create from the simplest designs to interesting collages with storage space. To create a real wardrobe on the loggia simply thanks to the shelves: you can buy a finished design or make it yourself. Chipboard is often used to create furniture for storage, and especially in a loggia. It is important that the material has a special coating against moisture and swelling, provided that the humidity is high on the balcony or there is a sharp change in temperature.

Wall-mounted pieces of furniture on a chipboard balcony are suitable for arranging any balcony in any style. If you do not do justice to the interior design of this space, then install simple structures in the color of light wood, and it will become not only a practical piece of furniture, but also a modern and laconic feature of your loggia.

  • Metal also serves to create hanging shelves on the balcony. The main thing is to choose a strong and light base for creating shelves on the loggia or purchase a ready-made design. For open balconies, choose stainless steel or aluminum; these materials are difficult to weather and do not deform from moisture, unlike wood or chipboard. However, metal products can change shape due to too heavy things that are stored on the shelves; this makes it necessary to select a certain thickness of the structure and the material used to create it.

  • Wood is used to make furniture, and balcony shelves are no exception. Natural wood is capricious, so you should not install any furniture elements from it on open loggias or those that are not insulated.

  • Glass as the basis for hanging shelves is used no less than the materials listed above. Glass shelves serve as a decorative element rather than a functional storage system.

  • Plastic is an inexpensive and practical material that surpasses chipboard in its qualities. Plastic shelves as part of the rack perfectly withstand dampness, moisture, temperature changes, so it is useful for arranging an open loggia. However, plastic does not withstand too heavy a load and does not always look stylish.

How to do it yourself

Balconies are different in their parameters, which requires an individual approach to creating furniture for it. If simple hanging shelves can be purchased at the store, it is not difficult to choose their size, then designs of several shelves like a closet make you look for an alternative. An excellent solution would be to create hanging wooden shelves on the balcony with your own hands.

To begin with, it is worth determining the location of the shelves: mark the location of the future piece of furniture directly on the walls, to facilitate work and improve its quality, use the level: it will make the drawing as accurate as possible. After marking, it is worth stocking up with the necessary materials: bars, sheets (MDF, chipboard, wood, lining). By the way, this and the following paragraphs of the article are devoted to the production of a small storage space on an open or closed loggia.

Nail 4 bars to the walls of the balcony, 2 bars on each side under each other, which form a niche, they will serve as the basis for fastening. If desired, you can install the back and side walls for shelves, bars can be attached to the same walls and elements made of chipboard or wood can be hung. Next, we fasten the sheets thanks to self-tapping screws to the frame, after attaching them to the attachment point in order to make sure that the structure is correct and functional. It is important to determine the required height of the shelves and make correct measurements so that things simply do not roll off the shelf.

After fixing the sheets, you should think about their design: leave them open or protect them with additional doors. For the manufacture of doors, you will need hinges, the doors themselves, handles and magnets. Here you can show your imagination: it is not necessary to make the cabinet completely closed; combine open and closed shelves and you will get an original and functional rack.

It is also possible to make interior elements for storage from lining, more precisely, a balcony sheathed with this material with similar shelves will look good. By the way, lining is more practical in comparison with chipboard, it is better to take pine or spruce as a basis - they are heat and moisture resistant, durable and practical. If you cut out the elements yourself, then each of them should be processed with sandpaper or a grinder, in addition they can be treated with varnish or other coating of a predominantly transparent color, otherwise the natural shade of the wood will disappear.

corner

Creating a corner rack in a loggia is simple, while you can use wood or metal, depending on the preferences and climatic conditions in the space. The corner design is incredibly functional and is especially useful on a closed balcony and even an open loggia, if you correctly approach the issue. With an open loggia, leave open those sections of the rack that are not exposed to direct sunlight and where the wind is unlikely to blow, the same recommendation will come in handy when making the structure in a closed area.

Corner structures on the balcony do not necessarily form a rack, it is enough to place the finished elements on top of each other and fix them with an original carved or strict design bracket.

Hanging shelves

Hanging shelves on the balcony, which do not form a rack, will be appropriate on the balcony in a small amount. It is convenient to put flowers, books, any other decor and useful things on such shelves. Their location does not oblige to a classic installation on top of each other, show your imagination and place pieces of furniture like a staircase - at different levels.

Thanks to the shelves on the balcony, you can get an original and practical interior of the room, for example, as in the photo below. Rectangular arrangements of arrangement on each other with a scatter in compliance with proportions. Fig 1

For storage of things, cabinets that are made by hand are most often used. Many people think that making a wardrobe with their own hands is very difficult and only people who have special skills can do it. In fact, you need to be guided by the advice of specialists, then everything will definitely work out. And there is nothing difficult in making furniture with your own hands from lining without much difficulty.

Frame frames of the cabinet from lining.

To make a cabinet from a lining, you need to purchase the following materials:

  1. For the frame, you will need wooden bars, 40 by 40 mm in size. For the sake of economy, it is recommended to purchase pine beams, but you need to make sure that they are perfectly dry, clean, no signs of decay are allowed.
  2. For connection it is necessary to use metal corners.
  3. For the manufacture of the door frame, you will need boards or bars (thin).
  4. For sheathing work, you will need a lining, which is also necessary for doors.
  5. As a material for the manufacture of shelves, you can use boards or thick chipboard sheets.
  6. Handles, hinges, locks should be used for cabinet fittings.
  7. For fasteners, you need to stock up on wood screws, nails and kleimers for lining.

As for the list of tools, it looks like this:

  1. Screwdriver, which must be equipped with a magnetic nozzle.
  2. Reciprocating saw, you can use a circular saw.
  3. Building level, tape measure.
  4. A hammer.

Before you make a cabinet from lining, you must carefully consider the choice of material.

Scheme of fastening the lining.

Lining made of wood from those wood species that contain a small amount of resin is perfect, in this regard, oak, linden and ash should be noted. If we talk about the class of lining, then the higher it is, the more attractive the appearance will be. It all depends on financial possibilities. There is no need to buy a class lining, which is technical and not suitable for making furniture.

As for the amount of material needed, it all depends on what design is planned. If it is planned to use the walls of the room as a wall, then the lining will only be needed to sheathe the doors. For the back of the cabinet, it is recommended to use laminated fiberboard, which is durable and strong.

How is the frame assembled?

Types of lining.

The lining cabinet should be mounted on the basis of a wooden frame. The frame is performed in the following sequence:

  1. First you need to assemble the front and rear frame, which involves connecting bars 1.5 and 1.8 m long, for this metal frames are used.
  2. You can lay plywood on the floor, it acts as the bottom of the cabinet. The bars can be connected without the use of corners, for this you need to use self-tapping screws, the length of which is 60-75 mm.
  3. To the rear frame with self-tapping screws or a construction stapler, you need to attach the back wall of the cabinet, which is made of laminated chipboard.
  4. The rear frame with the wall is attached to the back wall, then it is fixed with anchors, they must be leveled.
  5. Inside the cabinet, it is necessary to install the guides, on which the shelves should then be laid.

Do-it-yourself lining of a lining cabinet

Cabinet dimensions.

Sheathing a cabinet with clapboard is most often the manufacture of externally attractive doors. This is done as follows:

  1. You need to take a board (it is strongly recommended to use the thinnest possible board), assemble a frame of the appropriate dimensions from it.
  2. In order to achieve the necessary rigidity, it is necessary to add a jumper to the frame (it has the shape of a rectangle) (it is transverse, but it can also be made diagonal).
  3. The frame is laid on the floor, a lining cut to the appropriate size is applied to it, all this is fastened with nails. It is recommended to use lining, which has the maximum subtlety, then you can not be afraid that the door will be very heavy. After the sheathing work has come to an end, decorative trim should be attached to its door, and a handle is attached to the back.

The final touch in the manufacture of furniture is its varnishing. The cabinet must be covered with a protective varnish, thus not only improving the appearance, but also greatly extending its life.

Thus, high-quality furniture made from lining on your own is obtained. And despite the fact that the manufacture of such furniture is not difficult, it is not only capable of accommodating a large number of various things, but will also serve as an excellent interior decoration. And there is no doubt that all friends, relatives and acquaintances will admire such a work of art!

A wardrobe is often installed on the balcony to store things for which there is not enough space in the apartment. On a closed glazed balcony, sheathed from the inside with clapboard, a wardrobe from it will look harmonious; this material also goes well with other finishes. It is difficult to find ready-made furniture that will fit into the space of the balcony, so many owners are interested in how to make a wardrobe out of lining on their own.

Design and location options

If there is a niche without glazing at the end of the balcony, this is an ideal place for mounting a cabinet. Depending on the size and shape of the balcony, it may be more convenient to make a corner or wall cabinet. Based on the size and available free space, it is possible to equip the structure with doors of various types. For a balcony, the following options are best suited:

  • single or double leaf with hinged doors;
  • with sliding doors.

There are 2 options for the design of the balcony cabinet:

  • built-in;
  • case.

The first option allows you to rationally use all the available space, reduce the consumption of materials (you only need a beam for the frame, boards for shelves and lining for doors). But it is only suitable for balconies, where there is an unglazed area and 3 (for a corner cabinet - 2) solid walls on which the frame can be mounted. Alternatively, you can make a built-in cabinet up to the level of glazing. More materials will be needed for the cabinet cabinet, but it can be moved to another location if necessary.

It is worth making a closet on the balcony from the lining only if the glazing and thermal insulation are completed, all the cracks are sealed, the floor is repaired. Otherwise, adverse weather conditions, temperature fluctuations, and humidity will quickly render the wooden lining structure unusable.

Materials and tools

To make a cabinet on a balcony from a lining with your own hands, hardwood is suitable (coniferous trees emit resin that can stain things stored in the cabinet, and resin deposits on the facade look unaesthetic). You need to choose a lining of class "B", and if finances allow - "A". The "Extra" class for a balcony is an unjustified luxury, and the "C" class lining has too many defects and is only suitable for rough cladding.

In addition to wooden lining for cabinet cladding, you can use plastic. Nails or self-tapping screws are not suitable for its fastening, only kleimers or a stapler with staples.

Having decided on the design, dimensions of the cabinet, you can calculate how much material is needed. For the built-in wardrobe you will need:

  • timber 40x40 for the frame - 4 elements equal to the height, width and depth of the cabinet, plus 2 transverse elements (guides) for each shelf;
  • a beam of a smaller section (for example, 20x25) or a thin board for the frame of the doors, for each door there are 4 elements for the frame plus 1 for a transverse or diagonal stiffener;
  • thin lining for door trim, the length of the slats should be equal to the height of the cabinet, and to calculate the quantity, you need to divide its width by the useful width of one slat, which is then rounded up;
  • boards or chipboard for shelves, you can also use a thicker lining;
  • long anchors for attaching the frame to the walls;
  • wood screws 60-75 mm long or metal corners, screws of smaller length for frame assembly;
  • nails with small caps for fixing the lining in the sweat (you can also use self-tapping screws, kleimers or staples);
  • door hinges, handles.

Kleimers are more expensive than nails, but much more convenient to use and allow you to make the fastening of the lining invisible.

To make it yourself from the lining of the cabinet cabinet, you will need more of it, for sheathing the side walls, the lid and, possibly, the bottom. The back wall is made from a sheet of laminated fiberboard. Optionally, you can make the back wall in the built-in wardrobe, it will provide additional protection for the design and contents of the cabinet from moisture.

Of the tools you will need a tape measure, square, level and pencil for marking, as well as:

  • drill or perforator;
  • screwdriver;
  • saw;
  • hammer and hammer.

Assembly order

After the timber and lining are sawn into elements of the desired size, assembly can begin. Do-it-yourself assembly of a built-in wardrobe on a balcony begins with a frame, and ends with sheathing, hanging doors:

  1. The rear and front frame of the frame are assembled, the timber is connected using corners or self-tapping screws of sufficient length.
  2. The back wall is attached (if any).
  3. The rear frame is anchored to the end wall of the balcony, the horizontal and vertical elements are leveled.
  4. The transverse bars are attached with the help of corners to the corners of the frame, fixed with anchors to the side walls.
  5. The front frame is attached to the ends of the transverse bars, fixed with anchors to the side walls, floor and ceiling.
  6. From below, you can lay the bottom of chipboard or moisture-resistant plywood.
  7. To the inside of the racks of the frame at the desired height, guides for shelves are attached parallel to the side walls. It is necessary to control that they are located at the same height on the left and right.
  8. Shelves are installed, in boards or slabs, you must first select the corners for the racks. It is not necessary to fasten the shelves made of chipboard to the rails; it is better to fix the boards with self-tapping screws.

The inside of the cabinet is ready. In principle, you can stop there, but this design is more of a rack than a cabinet. To make a cabinet out of lining with your own hands, you need to add doors to this design.

  1. The frame (frames) of the door (doors) is assembled by analogy with the frames of the frame, only it is necessary to additionally mount a diagonal or transverse beam in each as a stiffener.
  2. The frames are sheathed with clapboard, the nails are hammered into the groove at an angle, the hats are recessed with the help of a doboynik, then the next panel is inserted into the groove with a comb and the procedure is repeated.
  3. Door hinges are attached to the front pillars of the frame.
  4. The doors are equipped with fittings, hung on the frame.

If the cabinet is low or divided into 2 tiers in height, and each has its own doors, their design can be simplified and facilitated by attaching the lining to 2-3 transverse bars (boards).

The assembly of the cabinet cabinet is different in that the made frame is sheathed with clapboard from the sides and top, plywood, chipboard can be used for the bottom, and fiberboard for the back wall. The frame is not anchored to the balcony walls, so the structure itself needs to be made more rigid, adding a cross member to the back frame. For side walls, shelf guides will serve as additional stiffeners.

It remains only to cover your cabinet with varnish to make it more attractive and extend its service life. Before starting varnishing, you need to remove everything superfluous, sweep, or rather vacuum the balcony so that dust does not stick to the fresh varnish.

A built-in wardrobe with lining doors is assembled quickly, is inexpensive, and looks very attractive. So it is worth spending a little time, effort and materials to have a new piece of furniture on the balcony.
