Installation of roller blinds of the closed type. Roller blinds for plastic windows: all about the design, methods of fastening and caring for the canvas

Roller blinds are a modern design for windows that adorns any interior. It is not only beautiful and stylish, but also very practical and convenient. Due to their advantages, curtains in a roll have replaced the once revered blinds in the popularity rating.

Curtains owe their name to an unusual mechanism for folding the canvas. It rolls up into a compact roll that takes up minimal space.

At the same time, you can independently adjust the length of the canvas and the level of illumination of the room. Roller blinds come in a variety of shapes and sizes.

Kinds

The open type system is a lightweight design, which is a fabric web wound onto a shaft of various diameters (19-45 mm), based on the dimensions of the product. The cornice is combined with a mechanism for winding the canvas. Attaches directly to wall or window frame.

Closed-type duct system (cassette) provides the room with high protection from sunlight. Darkening is created due to the location of the fabric in a box with guides attached to the glazing beads. The web and the winding mechanism are hidden by a plastic or aluminum casing.

It is not necessary that the curtains be made of fabric. On sale you can find bamboo and even wooden samples. They are somewhat reminiscent of blinds, but fabric blinds do not have the ability to adjust the flow of sunlight, with the exception of models called “day-night”.

A blank canvas is relevant for a window in a nursery, in living rooms and rooms where a home theater is located, for shading windows on the sunny side of the house.

Roller blinds can be equipped with or without a fishing line. Both models are easy to install and easy to use. The fishing line stretched along the edges keeps the canvas on the window frame evenly and does not allow it to move and rise from the bottom up with gusts of wind. But the most basic differences between the models are in the way they are fixed.

Self-adhesive roller blinds are a real find for those who do not want to drill holes in plastic windows or cannot do it for some reason. But for cassette structures, this method of fastening is not suitable.

Universal mount in fact, nothing more than Velcro, which is often used as a fastener on clothes and shoes. The tape is divided into two parts, one with soft pile, and the other with tiny hooks for traction.

The tape is glued with a tenacious side directly onto a plastic frame or onto a cornice. To attach the tape, use glue or self-tapping screws. The soft part with pile is located on the wrong side of the fabric roller blind. They need to be connected to each other in order to connect.

There are also special lightweight curtains in rolls with fastening with self-adhesive tape. Even a woman can handle their installation, since for this you do not need to have the ability to drill and use a drill or a screwdriver. Such installation is suitable for window sashes of small width, deaf or opening.

It is easier to care for such curtains than for all other types. It is enough to pull on one edge of the tape and separate the two parts of the fabric roller shutter structure.

Roller blinds can be ceiling-mounted or mounted on a frame. The principle of fastening is the same in each case. Fabric roller blinds are mounted on the ceiling mainly in openings when it is planned to completely close the view of the window sill and window.

It is advisable to use side guides so that the curtain fabric does not move away from the glass during drafts. In the ceiling structure, sometimes there is an additional spring mechanism that automatically winds it into a drum.

Also on sale are electric fabric roller blinds, automating the process of deployment and reeling of the web. The motor installed in the box is controlled using the remote control.

How to freeze?

You can independently determine what size the canvas should be.

It is necessary to add 3 centimeters to the width of the double-glazed window. When installing the curtain over the opening, and not in the opening, you need to add 10 cm to the width of the canvas so that the curtain completely closes the opening, not letting in sunlight from the sides.

And in length, the mechanism of roller blinds allows you to unwind the canvas according to your window size. It remains only to fix the roller shutter at a certain level. Before hanging the curtains, it is necessary to make a markup, indicating with two points the places where the screws are screwed in.

Dimensions

Before choosing a roller blind design, it is important to determine what size you need. In many ways, the parameters depend on the installation location:

  • in the case of a window located in a recess in width, the canvas should overlap the window opening at a distance of 8-10 cm. Allowances of 5 cm are needed from each edge. The height is chosen based on the height of the window opening, adding about 10 cm. In the maximum open position of the curtain, the glass should completely open the view;
  • in the case of the location of the wall and the window in a single plane fasteners are chosen so that there is a little distance between the curtain and the wall, the handle should not stick out. The width of the structure is 20 cm greater than the width of the opening. In height - everything is exactly as in the previously described version.
  • if you plan to install directly on the window, the width must be taken equal to the glass plus 3 cm.

Installation methods

Fabric roller blinds or their wooden counterparts can be attached to plastic frames in various ways.

The main role in determining the method of fastening is played by the design of the roller shutter, it is also important to take into account the size of the window opening.

Installation of curtains outside the opening to the ceiling or to the wall hides space, therefore it is undesirable in cramped conditions of small rooms.

Depending on the configuration, each system has its own installation rules according to the attached instructions. It is possible to assemble and attach roller blinds in several ways:

  1. On spring brackets.
  2. For self-tapping screws.
  3. Attach with double sided tape.
  4. On velcro tape (not cassette construction).
  5. On glue (with the exception of glue with cyanoacrylate, which is destroyed by moisture and cold air).

To fix closed or open curtains correctly, you need to act according to the attached step-by-step instructions, taking into account the characteristics of each type. Installing fabric curtains directly in the window opening allows you to profitably use the window sill. But everyone chooses the method of fastening according to their skills and considerations. Adhesive tape makes it possible to keep the plastic window frame in its original form. But self-tapping screws are a more reliable and durable option.

Accessories

Classic roller blinds most often mounted on metal brackets or their plastic counterparts. This is a reliable type of assembly, most suitable for balcony doors or large windows. On brackets, roller blinds are attached to any surface: to ceilings, walls, in a window opening.

Fasteners for free-hanging curtains Mini- a design similar to the previous one described, but in a more compact form. Characterized by a small area of the canvas and a smaller shaft. Such models are mounted directly on the frame of a plastic window or on glazing beads. If desired, you can install on double-sided adhesive tape, spring brackets or traditional self-tapping screws. To fix the hanging edge of the canvas on the movable sash, a metal guide is attached, and magnetic fasteners are installed on the frame.

Mounting on spring brackets applicable only on movable sashes. The protruding element on the bracket is attached to the frame profile from above, grabbing it and fastening it. To enhance the grip, there is a self-adhesive tape on the mount.

Assembly of roller blinds with double-sided tape, mainly suitable for mini-structures. The main advantage of the method lies in its simplicity and saving time for installation.

Installation with self-tapping screws, in principle, does not require special skills, except for owning a drill or a screwdriver. It is necessary to place the brackets for the cassette structure in the intended places, and then fix it with two self-tapping screws.

Mounting system Uni (unified) allows you to mount roller blinds in any possible way: on adhesive tape, self-tapping screws or on springy brackets. With various types of fastening, the basis of the mechanism is the same in any case: a web wound on a roller with a control system.

Peculiarities

The mechanism of roller blinds has one main distinguishing feature - absolutely silent operation. If any sounds occur during operation, it is worth checking the correct assembly. Also, the noise indicates some kind of malfunction.

The production of roller blinds does not stand still, releasing new interesting models with additional functionality. For example, it is possible to manufacture roller blinds, where the box with the canvas moves simultaneously, which allows you to adjust the curtains in two directions.

You can change the level of lighting in the room in different ways, depending on the installed mechanism.

  • chain cord is the main element for adjusting curtains. It can be located on either side of the canvas. Fixing the curtains is acceptable at any level from the windowsill. On the roller, the fabric is wound inside out.
  • With spring mechanism it is necessary to fix the curtain at the required height manually by means of a ball fixed at the bottom of the fabric web or with the help of a special handle. The curtain should be easily pulled down and fixed in the desired position with a locking mechanism. To lift back, pull slightly down, and then lift up.
  • remote control by means of an electric drive. Typically, such a mechanism is used in cases where manual control is not possible due to the location of the window beyond the reach of the curtains or when the roller blinds are mounted on the ceiling.

The simplest and most reliable design is with a chain roller cord, which is operated without problems and does not actually wear out.

materials

Most often, roller blinds are made of polyester, fiberglass, nylon, linen or cotton. But curtains are also made from other natural and artificial materials. For classic models make smooth canvases, but there are also exclusive options from velvety matter or imitating metal. In addition, it is possible to order roller blinds with photo printing, prints, embroidered with intricate patterns. The density of matter is also offered in different ways: from completely impermeable to translucent.

Decorators add to the roller blinds from the fabric of sophistication, decorating the bottom of the canvas with a curly cut, braid, fringe with tassels, lace, so that buyers can find a roller blind for any interior in different styles and configurations.

Fabrics for making such curtains choose resistant to temperature changes, fading, dust repellent, antibacterial. The possibility of additional impregnation of the canvas allows the use of such roller blinds in rooms facing south. Impregnation creates a reflective effect, so that the room does not heat up.

Between the glass and the curtain, a certain protective layer of air is obtained, which prevents the entry of cold into the room in winter and saves coolness in summer. Fabric curtains are perfectly combined in the interior with curtains, because it is not difficult to choose the right color to match the main textile decoration of the window.

Roller blinds differ in the level of light transmission. You can divide the existing models into several main categories:

  • Transparent decorative canvases. They diffuse daylight well, but are usually used in conjunction with curtains or main curtains.

  • dimout- fabric blinds that partially let in sunlight, while retaining heat. Popular for window decoration in offices, mini-greenhouses.

  • Blackout- An innovative multi-layer fabric that reliably protects against ultraviolet radiation. Blackout blinds are very appropriate in bedrooms and children's rooms, and also found great use in conference rooms and halls for home theater use.

  • Roller blinds day-night model made of fabric with alternating transparent and opaque stripes. Created on the principle of blinds, they allow you to regulate the flow of light penetrating from the outside. By moving different strips relative to each other, you can achieve sufficient lighting, twilight and complete shading.

  • Wooden horizontal roller blinds are increasingly appearing in modern interiors. Environmentally friendly material looks unusual because of its texture and perfectly performs its protective functions. The special treatment of wood prevents fading in the sun and the harmful effects of humidity. Available in lacquered or not, as well as in various colors.

  • bamboo blinds- straws or strips of bamboo, fastened together with decorative threads. Differ in durability and ease, functionality and moisture resistance. Easy to operate and can regulate the flow of sunlight.

The repair is completed, the last point remains - the installation of roller blinds on the windows, and the apartment will change and shine in a new way. First you need to choose the color, texture of the material, study the fastening system, buy the necessary fixtures and the mechanism itself.
Plastic windows have proven themselves in the construction market, are in great demand among the population. Together with them, roller blinds began to come into fashion as an integral element of the interior. The easy-to-handle design helps decorate and darken the room without taking up extra space.

A diverse design of the material allows you to bring new colors to the design of the room, to create a style. They go well with ordinary curtains, tulle, and are used as an independent element. They have certain advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages

There are a lot of positive aspects in using roller blinds. Let's take a look at the main ones.

  1. Diverse structure: fabrics can be fabric (cotton, polyester, silk, linen) or PVC fabric.
  2. A large selection of colors and shades: curtains are sold in plain, multi-colored, photo printing of paintings, complex patterns is possible on them.
  3. The choice of web thickness: thin (almost transparent) or dense.
  4. The composition of the impregnation protects against fading, pollution, unraveling of threads, wetting from water.
  5. Some models have heat-insulating and anti-reflective properties:
  6. Curtains are compact, leave a lot of space on the windowsill.
  7. For a bedroom and an office with a computer, two-layer models are used (the inner layer is fabric, the outer one is a reflective screen).
  8. They can be mounted on separate doors and do not interfere with their opening.
  9. Low maintenance, easy to clean.
  10. Do not require ironing, do not wrinkle.
  11. Durable in use.

All these advantages allow you to safely use them in the children's room, bedroom, living room, even in the kitchen and bathroom.

disadvantages

They are so insignificant that many do not pay attention to them.

  1. Fasteners are plastic, break if not handled properly.
  2. It is strictly forbidden to wash in water.
  3. They absorb odors in the kitchen.
  4. With closed curtains installed inside or outside the window opening, it is impossible to open the sashes to ventilate the room.

Location

Many housewives are wondering: "Where and how to install roller blinds?" First you need to determine their convenient location.

You can hang roller blinds on a plastic window with your own hands in 3 options, depending on the position of the brackets:

  • directly on the sash;
  • inside the opening at a small distance from the frame;
  • outside the window opening.

Therefore, the installation of roller blinds on plastic windows will be slightly different.

Varieties of models

Roller blinds come in 2 types according to the type of mechanism.

  • Open. The fabric is wound open on the shaft. Due to the weighting bar, when unwinding, it hangs on the frame.
  • Closed. A shaft is hidden inside the box. Along the edges, the guides do not allow the canvas to move to the side.

Installing brackets

In order to save the family budget, all assembly work can be done by hand, without involving specialists, following the general rules.

  1. For brackets, mark the attachment points.
  2. Check the correctness of the markup by applying the cassette.
  3. Attach the brackets. When installing not on the sash, you will need to drill holes in the concrete with a puncher, use wooden plugs for screws.
  4. The fabric with the shaft is inserted into the grooves until it clicks.
  5. Using the chain, unfold the curtain, leaving 1 turn of the canvas.
  6. A lock is fixed in the upper part of the control mechanism.

You can hang curtains with your own hands directly on the sashes of a plastic window using self-tapping screws. This option is most convenient during operation, the fastening is reliable, it does not interfere with the use of a window sill, watering flowers.

  • The line connecting the brackets must be strictly horizontal. Determine it using the building level.
  • Do not use adhesive tape to attach the curtain to the frame. From the heating of the sun, it deteriorates, and the whole structure falls.
  • It is better not to purchase ready-made designs. An individual order will allow you not to adjust the curtains with your own hands to the size of the plastic window.
  • Pay attention to the quality of mechanisms and fabrics. Hanging cheap products is easy, using them will be problematic.
  • Choose the type of dimming you need. It is not possible to change it further.
  • Closed mechanisms allow you to keep a clean and beautiful look of the fabric for longer.

Installation of a closed type product

Do-it-yourself assembly of a closed mechanism on a plastic window is carried out as follows.

  1. Degrease the surface of the frame with technical alcohol.
  2. Determine the right and left guides by applying them to the window (bottom side protrusion).
  3. Mark on top the place where the guides end.
  4. Remove the side covers from the box with a slight movement towards you.
  5. Pulling the chain, unfold the fabric to the end.
  6. Remove the protective film from the sticky part of the box, apply it to the upper edge of the glazing bead strictly in the center.
  7. Make a mark with an awl and fix it with a self-tapping screw on the opposite side of the mechanism.
  8. By moving the loose edge, they achieve a parallel arrangement of the fabric relative to the side glazing beads.
  9. Attach the other end of the box.
  10. Release the sticky layer of the guides from the protective tape. Glue at the markup.
  11. Return protective covers for the box.

Width change

Roll-type factory mechanisms do not always fit the size of the window. Before assembly, you have to reduce their width. What does that require?

  • The material is unfolded, the plugs are removed from the shaft.
  • Remove the weighting agent from the bottom.
  • Mark with a pencil the required width of the fabric, cut off the excess with scissors.
  • The upper shaft is cut to the width of the opening (8 mm longer than the material).
  • The weighting bar is shortened by 1.5 cm less than the canvas.
  • Reinsert the lower bar and shaft plugs.
  • With the help of a chain, the material is wound onto the shaft, leaving 5 cm of the edge hanging down.
  • Next, install the mechanism according to the general rules.

Product care

  1. Dry cleaning with a vacuum cleaner with brush attachments.
  2. Wet wipe with a neutral soapy solution with a soft sponge.
  3. Removal of light soiling with a natural stain remover.
  4. During cooking, the curtains are raised.
  5. Careful folding avoids creases.
  6. Dry in expanded form to prevent deformation of the canvas.
  7. Soaking in water leads to a deterioration in the protective properties.

Hanging roller blinds on plastic windows is not difficult. They will help transform the interior and choose the "view outside the window." Any drawings are set by the method of photo printing. On a cloudy day, beautiful pictures of the winter forest or flowering sakura branches will cheer you up, give the room a cozy, warm atmosphere. Roller blinds in the nursery can be decorated with images of your favorite characters from fairy tales and cartoons.

Attic windows that are tilted cannot be decorated with ordinary curtains. A roll-type mechanism with a closed system will be indispensable here. It will help protect the room from direct sunlight, create coolness in the summer heat, keep warm in the winter cold.

There are many types of light-protective canvases, but they have common features. All of them consist of a metal pipe-roller, or a rod, on which a fabric is wound: bamboo or cotton material. The length is adjusted by means of a chain, which is attached to the rotating mechanism on one side of the roll.

Usually at the bottom of the curtain there is a steel or wooden plank-weight, which protects it from deformation, allows it to hang evenly and fit snugly against the glass. The latter is achieved with a pair of small magnets that are glued to the bottom of the frame and attract the weighting agent if it is metal.

You can go a more complicated way and pass a fishing line through the guides, which will hold the roller shutter when the wind fluctuates and opens in the "window" mode. It must first be threaded into the upper fasteners several times so that it does not pull out when pulled. Unwind it to the end, put it in a special eyelet on the weighting bar. Fasten small corners with holes for fishing line at the bottom of the frame. Stretch it there, tie it, cut off the excess.

Sometimes manufacturers install a spring inside the shaft. In this case, it is not necessary to touch the cord with your hands to open or close. It is enough with a little effort to pull the plumb line, located on the bottom bar.

Installation sequence:

  1. We outline the location of the fasteners.
  2. We drill holes, put the side clamps in place, fix them with self-tapping screws.
  3. We put the roller with the cloth in place, close the plugs.
  4. We prepare the guides for installation, remove the protective tape from the self-adhesive layer. We lower the curtain by 20-25 cm.
  5. We put the canvas under the guides and carefully glue them into place.
  6. We install limiters on the chain mechanism or a decorative weight on the weighting bar. We check the functionality.

Installing cassette models

  1. Mark up first.
  2. Using a level, correct the "horizon" of the location of the roller shutter.
  3. Drill holes at the marked points.
  4. Using self-tapping screws at the top of the double-glazed window, screw the box with the roll rolled up inside it.
  5. If you do not want to make holes, use tape at least a millimeter thick. But first, cast a spell over the markings so that the box hangs evenly.

Rolleta - the good decision for any interiors. They are practical, beautiful and allow you to effectively adjust the degree of illumination of the room. Night/day roller blinds are especially good for this. For those who do not want to give up traditional curtains, we can advise you to use them complete with rolls. Very interesting and functional combinations are obtained.

Recently, residents of apartments and owners of office premises are increasingly choosing roller blinds as light-shielding structures. In this regard, more and more often the question arises of how to hang roller blinds with your own hands.

Unlike classic curtains or curtains, roller structures require a special approach during installation. The way you are going to install the structure on the window will depend on the features of the work. In order to properly install roller blinds, you should carefully familiarize yourself with their design features and the types of fasteners used.

The choice of roller blinds for windows

The roller blind mechanism has much in common with blinds.

Structurally, a roller blind is one of the varieties of blinds. The only difference is that to darken the room, it is not transverse slats assembled into a single structure that are used here, but a fabric curtain wound on a shaft.

Rising, the curtain opens up access to the room for natural light, falling - creates in the room, depending on its density, either a light translucent twilight, or almost complete darkness.

The widest range of fabric roller shutters is presented on the modern market, differing in colors, texture of the material, design features and their cost. Therefore, before choosing roller blinds, you should decide which option is most suitable for your room.

The dimensions of roller blinds depend on the place of their attachment: on the window frame, window opening or separately on the sash

With the help of roller shutters, you can give the interior almost any design, decorating it either in a strictly business style, or creating home comfort in it.

Before you go to choose roller blinds, you should first take measurements from window openings or sashes. It all depends on where you are going to attach the structure.

Structurally, fabric roller shutters can be of open or closed type. The first option provides for the installation of the shaft directly on the fasteners, and in the second, the shaft is installed in a protective box, which, in turn, is already mounted on the fasteners.

Installation methods of roller blinds can be very different:

  • on the window opening;
  • on the wall or ceiling above the window opening;
  • on the window sash.

Each of these options has its pros and cons. Let's take a closer look at how to install roller shutters in each of these ways. First of all, you will need to assemble roller blinds from components into a single mechanism, and only after that attach them to the window. Before assembling the structure, read the instructions and drawings attached to it.

It should be remembered that if, due to incorrect or careless assembly, the mechanism is disabled, the manufacturer's warranty on it is void.

Installing roller blinds on a wall or ceiling

To install roller shutters above the window opening, you will need a building level, tape measure, puncher, screwdriver and pencil. All work is carried out in several stages:

  1. We determine the place where the base of the device will be attached - a roll shaft or a protective box.
  2. With the help of the level, we mark the strip along which our structure will be attached.
  3. We apply a roller blind to the strip and align it in the center of the window opening. In the right places, we outline marks for holes in the wall.
  4. Using a perforator, we drill holes in the wall for dowel-nails and fasten the base of the roller blind to the wall with their help.

To adjust the fabric part of the curtain in length, we release it in such a way that it is 10-15 cm below the window sill.

In this place, we install a stopper on the control chain, which will prevent us from lowering the curtain to the floor. For information on how to hang roller blinds on a window, see this useful video:

Installation of roller blinds on a window frame

This method has several advantages:

  1. Even with the curtain down, there is free access to the window sill.
  2. In order to open the window, you do not need to remove the curtain fabric on the shaft.
  3. You can close only one window sash with a curtain, thereby adjusting the level of illumination in the room.

You can fasten the structure to the frame using the same self-tapping screws. As in the first case, we mark with a level and a pencil the place of installation of the brackets. For a tutorial on installing roller blinds on a window frame, see this video: We apply the roller shutter to the frame, aligning it in such a way that the canvas completely covers the glazed part of the window. Then we fix the base of the roller blind to the frame using self-tapping screws.

Ways to fasten roller shutters without damaging the frames

Roller shutters can be attached to the window with double-sided tape

However, the question often arises among apartment residents: “How can you hang roller blinds on plastic windows without damaging the frames?”. In this case, double-sided tape can be used to install the roller blind on a plastic window.

We also mark the window opening, mark the approximate horizontal line. Then we stick double-sided tape on the back side of the roller shutter base. We release a fabric curtain along the entire length of the window sash, tear off the protective layer of the film from the second side of the adhesive tape and, having tried on the curtain to the window, fasten the base of the roller shutter to the frame. As a result, we get a sufficiently strong connection that can securely hold the roller blind on the window frame.

For a stronger connection, before using adhesive tape, clean the frame from various contaminants: dust, grease stains, etc.

Also, instead of adhesive tape, it is possible to use mounting glue (“liquid nails”) or special spring brackets. In this case, all the nuances of this method of fastening should be taken into account: liquid nails provide an excessively strong adhesion between the base of the blinds and the frame, so it will be difficult to dismantle the roller shutter without the risk of damaging it or the window.

Spring brackets are designed to mount the roll system only on opening window sashes. Installing them on blind doors will not work because of their design features. How to install roller blinds without drilling, see this video:

Based on the foregoing, any home master can install roller blinds on the windows of his house. To do this, you do not need to have any transcendental abilities - it will be quite enough to be able to handle simple construction tools, and the desire to do this work with your own hands.

  • pencil;
  • roulette;
  • scissors;
  • a screwdriver and a drill with a drill Ø 2 mm (you do not need a drill and a drill to install on double-sided tape).

Open the package and take out the MINI roller blind. Do not use a knife or blade to cut the package, so as not to damage the product!

Option number 1 - how to fix roller blinds WITHOUT drilling - on double-sided tape

Attach the roller blind to the window, make markings for gluing with a pencil. In order to avoid uneven winding of the fabric on the shaft, as a result of non-horizontal installation of the product, we recommend using the building level. Degrease the adhesive areas with the means available to you - apply alcohol, lighter gasoline or nail polish remover (with a solvent content) to a cotton swab and wipe well. Peel off the protective film from the adhesive tape on the upper curtain rod. Pressing firmly, glue the entire structure to the window leaf. Please note that installation on double-sided tape is suitable for products of a standard size, but is not recommended for large sizes of products (due to the large weight).

Option number 2 - how MINI roller blinds are attached to self-tapping screws

Attach the roller blind to the window, make markings with a pencil at the attachment points. In order to avoid uneven winding of the fabric on the shaft, as a result of non-horizontal installation of the product, we recommend using the building level. Screw the upper brackets to the plastic window frame with self-tapping screws. Snap the upper roller blind cornice into the brackets until a characteristic click is heard.

Option number 3 - how to install MINI roller blinds on hanging brackets

Insert the plastic hanging brackets into the slots on the top cornice. Remove the protective tape from the hinged brackets. Degrease the bonding points with any available means and remove the protective layer from the adhesive tape from the hinged brackets. Put the entire structure on the upper part of the window sash according to the markings and press firmly at the attachment points.
