DIY wall decoration. Wall decor: the most interesting ideas Decorating walls with drawings in the country

DIY wall decor has 2 goals: economic and aesthetic. Artistic and finishing materials are expensive, but in everyday life you can pick up full-fledged substitutes for them, again. Two - there are a great many different materials for decorative finishing and sets of them for sale, and here simply the law of large numbers begins to affect: for example, under a microscope, grains of sand are beautiful and unique one by one, but all of them together are just a pile of sand. Taking on the wall decor on your own, without looking back at ready-made branded solutions, it is possible to get a unique and expressive interior even without experience.

Fundamental levels

Samples of successful wall decoration are shown in the photo above. They are of different financial and technological levels, but what they have in common is a skillful combination of aesthetic and technical implementation. There is enough simplicity for every sage, and anyone can fantasize about a dozen geniuses. However, the degree of talent and creative maturity is determined by how the author is able to embody his insights in the material, and here the first thing is to choose the right ones. The next moment - the idea of \u200b\u200bdecoration of walls can overshadow before construction / housewarming / overhaul, during it or already in a residential apartment / house. From this point of view, it is necessary to dance from the base - the wall - and in it to highlight several technical levels of the location of decorative elements:

  • 0th: basic solid (capital) wall - concrete, brick, wood - primed and puttied. It is desirable to do without complex and time-consuming alignment exactly in the plane.
  • 1st: wall covered with starting plaster.
  • 2nd: the wall is already under the finishing plaster; perhaps colored plain or dyed.
  • 3rd: the room is inhabited, furnished. You can’t either touch the wall, not knowing for sure what will turn out well, or you need to hide its defects with decorations.
  • 4th: independent decoration, technologically not related to the underlying surface.

Focusing on the technical levels of beauty overlay, the decor of the walls in the apartment will almost certainly turn out to be successful even for an inexperienced master. The general pattern can be traced as follows: the higher the working level, the simpler and cheaper, but at the same time the decor turns out to be less resistant and durable. However, there are enough exceptions to this rule, see below. In general, the work is divided into the following stages:

  1. In the imagination, the type of future decorative wall is well thought out;
  2. According to the properties of the bearing surface, the range of finishing materials suitable in this case is determined;
  3. A branded material is selected that the author likes in accordance with his skill, design and financial capabilities;
  4. The possibility of creating a conceived composition from improvised materials is being considered. One is not being sought - branded material / kit is purchased.
  5. The appearance of the decor is finally thought out - simply, a picture - and its sketch is created;
  6. The bearing surface is prepared acc. technical requirements for the selected material;
  7. Finishing and decorative works are being carried out.

And one moment: decor suitable for the upper levels can be located on the lower levels, but not vice versa, i.e. wall decorating methods are compatible from top to bottom. For example, the base wall as it is can be plastered with butterflies (see below), but majolica panels (also see below) cannot be glued to flock or structural paint, their fasteners must go at least into the starting plaster. The reason is the base wall, and then the lower layers of the building finish must have a bearing capacity greater than the upper ones, i.e. from the bare wall outward, the bearing capacity of the base of the decor decreases.

And what do you want?

A successful creative idea is impossible without expressing in it the personality of the author to one degree or another. Soulless decor is ugly decor, just like an ugly plane doesn't fly well. But, before looking for an answer to the question: “How do I want to express myself in this?”, You need to decide - how much? Exposing yourself to everyone in a row is no more reasonable than throwing a wad of banknotes, paying for beer.

For example, the author of the composition in pos. 1 fig. all in plain sight, but within strictly defined limits of his hobby; for the rest, sorry, I'm on my own here. In pos. 2, a sympathetic female soul is visible, but not wide open, you need to think about what's what in order to approach. At pos. 3 the author's priorities are clearly indicated; for the rest - try it, your right, but I will decide. But the owner of the ensemble in pos. 4 thinking is clearly unconventional. You can understand it only by understanding abstract painting. If only the owner himself understands it at least enough to select / write a picture on the wall with skill.

Conditional zero

A bare wall can, firstly, be draped with a fabric on a wooden frame (remember the old tapestries and draperies); secondly, finish with heavy decorative materials that will be difficult to carry with starting plaster - clinker tiles, natural or artificial stone. The expressive possibilities of the stone are very wide; it pairs well with higher-level finishes (right and center in the pic), but these materials are not cheap, and work with them requires a thorough knowledge and skill. Artistic stone cladding is also difficult because the top layers of the finish will have to be applied around complex contours or in their gaps. For a beginner, who, as they say, has thought of a stone or clinker, it is better to confine himself to facing the callous eye of the corner with them, on the left in fig.

Expensive tapestries or Lyon silk in the age of general passion for patchwork are quite interchangeable with textile patchwork panels, left to the next. rice. Patchwork patchwork kits are on sale, but sewing waste is even cheaper, they are sold by weight. To pick up the flaps, cut and sew them into a panel of the desired size, the process is quite laborious, but technically uncomplicated; the uniqueness of the result is guaranteed by the source material itself.

An important drawback of textile wall decor is its combustibility. On the other hand, if communications are laid in the channels of the base wall, and their critical nodes (revision hatches, drainage pipes, junction boxes) are located behind the curtains, then in the event of an accident, textile decor can be life-saving. However, the kitchen, hallway and common areas cannot be decorated with fabric, because. it is hygroscopic, absorbs odors and can become a habitat for bacteria.

Also, do not decorate the nursery with textiles, simply because children are children. But the balcony attached to the room is an ideal place for textile decor, on the right in fig. Firstly, light finishing does not additionally load the balcony slab, already burdened with glazing and insulation. Secondly, soft porous finish will give additional warming. And money for materials and work will be needed several times less than for any of the other rooms.

Crooked tapestries

Curved surfaces are decorated with fabric step by step as follows:

  • Preparing acc. wood frame with uprights and transverse ribs. Curvilinear parts are best cut from thick plywood.
  • The front part of the frame is sheathed with electric cardboard or thin hard elastic plastic with glue and small nails.
  • The cloth is superimposed on the frame and evenly fitted with threads, threaded from the underside into the folds of the fabric.
  • The edges of the covered frame are carefully pierced through the fabric with a liquid adhesive, such as cyanoacrylate.
  • After the glue dries, the tightening threads are cut off.
  • The folds of the panel are additionally attached to the frame from the underside with wallpaper nails or pushpins with a flat head.

We smear at the start

Ideas for decorating walls using starting plaster are feasible, in descending order of technical complexity and cost, using the following. materials:

  1. Textured (decorative) plaster and / or gypsum stucco;
  2. Flocking;
  3. Structural paints.

Plaster

The set of expressive means of textured plaster for interior work is incomparably richer than bark beetle, etc. for outdoor decoration. Relatively affordable, at a price and technologically, ready-made dry textured plasters, which are kneaded for use according to the instructions, pos. 1-3 in the figure, but working with them requires the qualification of a painter-plasterer of at least 4-5 grades. Relief decorative plaster (pos. 4 and 5) is actually a hand-made piece of artistic stucco. Cast relief decor is used for finishing on other levels, see below.

Flocks and chips

Flocks - liquid wallpaper with a soft organic filler, fibrous or cotton; the latter are sometimes called chips. The texture of the surface of the flocked walls is soft in appearance; does not get dirty to the touch, does not cool and does not scratch. Flocks are easy to care for using detergents, non-toxic, non-allergenic. The color tones of the flocks are soft, pastel; walls can be flocked both in a continuous layer and on a stencil, displaying a pattern, the top row in fig. For these reasons, flocking is a highly desirable way of decorating walls in a nursery.

Flocks are produced as single-component - a dry mixture of a binder with a filler is mixed with water and applied like plaster - and 2-component: the binder is closed separately and a filler or a mixture of them is introduced into it. The textures of 1-component flocks are relatively stable (samples are at the bottom left in the figure); the texture of a 2-component flock is formed during its application by fillers collected from the cash register (bottom right). 2-component flocks are much more expensive and more difficult to work with, but they can display halftones and color transitions.

Not just paint

Structural (textured) paint differs from the usual higher viscosity and uneven drying speed across the layer thickness, due to which the paint layer, when dried, does not spread evenly over the surface, but gathers into folds, granular or rounded granules. There are self-structuring and structured textured paints. The former are applied with paint rollers and, after drying, form a streaked, granular, shagreen surface, etc.

Structured texture paints are thick, but dry more evenly over the thickness of the layer, so the texture of the surface painted by them is formed during painting. The main methods of painting with textured paint are given in the top row of the figure, but more subtle working methods are not technologically complicated, see pos. bottom row:

  1. With a single textured roller, the pattern is somewhat blurry, but unique;
  2. A clear regular pattern is displayed with a double relief roller;
  3. If you apply textured paint with a flat brush (flat, wide, hard), you can get a stone-like texture. Furrows and ridges of the paint layer will stretch in the direction of the brush strokes;
  4. The paint is applied with a flat brush in fan-shaped or smoothly curved strokes. Then wait for the surface layer of paint to dry. Next, a smooth plastic (so-called stitching) roller is placed in the double roller, and the wetting roller is impregnated with clean water, and the paint layer is rolled with light pressure. It turns out the surface under the tree.
  5. With ordinary pictorial brushes with textured paint, you can display relief contour art images.

Note: textured paint can be painted on finishing plaster, withstand, and on ordinary non-woven wallpaper. Usually they paint with a continuous layer at the start, in order to reduce the cost of finishing, at the finish - in sections, and on non-woven fabric - when you need to update the inhabited premises.

What is possible at the finish line?

Decor on finishing plaster provides a particularly rich choice of expressive means, so it is better to arrange its options in ascending order of the ratio of technical complexity to the aesthetics of the image:

  • Wallpapering: ordinary, photo and 3D;
  • Applications and small applied decor;
  • Art painting.

Note: wallpaper, as you know, can also be glued to the starting plaster. But for decorative purposes, the entire wall is often not covered with wallpaper, so a building and finishing finish is needed to create an attractive background.

Wallpaper

The easiest way to decorate a wall with wallpaper is to take 2 types of them, contrasting or harmonizing, and glue them in alternating stripes, the top row in fig. On sale are the so-called. twin wallpapers, rolls of different tones and colors are sold in pairs. The strips are usually glued vertically: ceilings higher than 3 m are rare in modern rooms, and when gluing with horizontal stripes, the effect of overhanging the ceiling is stronger than the effect of space compression during horizontal gluing.

A more spectacular way to decorate with wallpaper is to glue a panel out of them, the bottom row in fig. For originals, manufacturers, in addition to the long-known photo wallpapers, offer very realistic 3D panels. 3D paintings are not cheap, and full-wall panels are often too expensive. In this case, the panels are glued to the wall and everything that is superfluous is simply painted over, see fig. on right. Shadows, for greater realism, in this case are painted on.

About glass wallpaper

Recently, glass fiber glass fiber has been intensively promoted on the market. Suddenly you are on them, as they say, put your eyes on them, keep in mind that:

Simply, fiberglass manufacturers want to somehow sell the stale goods, and they hired marketers to figure out what sauce to shake it off with.

colorful change

Decorating walls with small overhead decor is now in vogue. On sale there is a wide selection of butterflies, leaves, etc. made of vinyl. However, the decor of them will cost a pretty penny, and often you have to spoil the wall, because. sales samples for the sake of warranty are supplied with mechanical fasteners, see fig. on right. But the same, and better, figures can be cut out of paper reinforced with gluing, and attached to the wall with 2-sided tape. Paper sizing (density - from 140 g / sq. M) is done as follows:

  • A flat surface is covered with 3-4 layers of polyethylene film.
  • PVA is diluted with water 2-3 times.
  • A sheet of paper is placed on a film and evenly “slapped” with a foam swab soaked in diluted glue.
  • After complete drying, the sheet is turned over and processed on the other side in the same way.

Glued PVA becomes not only more durable, but also somewhat thermoplastic: heated with a household hair dryer, it can be slightly bent; pressing with a finger, make a bulge, etc. As it cools, the bend or dent will remain. For example, we give butterfly patterns:

... leaves:

...and colors:

If you decide to decorate the wall with flowers according to these patterns, then keep in mind that each of them must first be printed as many times as there are layers in it, for each layer, cut out patterns, cut blanks and assemble them into a flower on PVA. It is not necessary to cover the entire lower surface of the element with adhesive tape for attaching to the wall: butterflies are attached to the abdomen, flowers to the calyx, and leaves to the middle.

We give volume

Small paper decor will be stronger and look better if the petals and wings are given some bulge by cutting and gluing. How to do this, see the example of decorative hearts on the wall, fig. on right.

painting

Pictures on the walls are a special big topic, which we intend to address in more detail in the very near future. In the meantime: do not be afraid, it is not the gods who burn the pots. It is quite possible to paint the walls artistically with a tip. The main thing is to sketch: and great artists painted their masterpieces from life. Abstraction is also impossible without nature, processed in the mind of the creator. To do this, do not be too lazy to learn the basics of some vector graphics program. Best of all - the good old CorelDraw. The basic tools and options of this most powerful professional graphic design tool can be mastered by a green beginner in an evening or two, and this is more than enough to create a sketch that can be kept in front of your eyes all the time.

Second, get some clipart (Clip Art, a set of graphic elements and ready-made pictures). CorelDraw is famous for the richness of its clipart, there are many thousands of images for all occasions, and all of them can be edited in the same software, assembled into a picture, etc. CorelDraw cliparts are sold under a free license, ie. the owner can abuse them as he wants without regard to copyrights, royalties, etc. Cliparts for old versions of CorelDraw can also be found in the free distribution; they are fully compatible with the new versions. Some of what can be done in CorelDraw is shown in fig. below:

  • Top left is the work of a beginner with no art background. It took less than 1 hour.
  • Top right - the same, for the evening.
  • Bottom left - an amateur designer with clipart, for the evening.
  • Bottom right - the same, professional.

However, even without vector software, it is also possible to decorate the walls with paintings. For example, geometric without a stencil, using only masking tape, from the left to the next. rice. The main thing is that there should be a well-developed sketch. Further, art stencils for wall decor do not have to be bought ready-made. The worst ones are cut out with a mounting knife from plastic tracing paper (sold in stationery stores, in the center in the figure). By the way, branded stencils for walls are made from it, only they are cut with a laser. And in CorelDraw, in a couple of evenings, you can make your own unique stencils on five or a dozen walls.

Note: disposable stencils for wall decor can be made from glued writing paper as described above.

Regular stencils also need to be used with imagination. Pay attention to the stencil sections shown by the red and green arrows on the right in fig. Leading a row of a pattern, the stencil is not shifted to the full width and these fragments are pierced one by one. As a result, the pattern comes out much more alive. Of course, in this case, you need to paint on a stencil not with an aerosol, but with a swab. What can be achieved using only 3-4 stencils and 2-3 colors of paints, shows fig. on right.

About paints

Not all artists own real fresco painting. Wall lovers paint mainly with acrylic paints. However, if you are not deprived of artistic talent, pay attention to the airbrush technique. Firstly, the airbrush drawings on the walls are very bright, lively, which is especially important in a nursery. Secondly, an amateur airbrush without art education is able to create a meaningful interesting picture in 10-20 minutes. How do-it-yourself airbrush wall decor is done, the video below shows in detail:

Convex decor

The overlay decor of convex elements corresponds to the 3rd and 4th levels of the location on the wall. At the same time, the latter performs a predominantly load-bearing function, and its design is insignificant, as long as it holds the weight of the decor; as a rule, the convex decor does not load it too much. Convex decor is performed mainly by the following elements:

  • Ceramics - decorative plates, tiles, majolica, etc.
  • Images - paintings, photographs, collections and compositions of three-dimensional elements in frames.
  • Mirrors.
  • Imitation of stucco molding from light materials: polystyrene foam, polyurethane, cold porcelain - plastics.
  • Hanging panels from the remnants of wallpaper, fabric, decorative film, etc.
  • Decor from light natural materials, prem. tree.

Note: plastic stucco is especially recommended for beginners. Firstly, it can be sculpted like plasticine until something decent comes out. Secondly, decorative dishes can be made from plastic. Thirdly, having rolled out the plastic into a sheet, you can cut contour figures from it according to templates like from paper, but stronger than vinyl ones, bend them as you like and color them. Decor with cold porcelain from flowers is technically simpler and looks better than paper.

Ceramics and tableware

Decorative utensils are aesthetically valuable in themselves, so you can place them on the walls as God puts on your soul. Fastening plastic decorative dishes to the wall - with 2-sided adhesive tape, because. she doesn't hit. As for tiles and majolica, there are some rules. Tiles look better on walls finished in stone (eg porcelain stoneware), and artistic majolica on plain walls, see fig.

Pictures

Pictures / photos on the walls are hung in an artistic mess in the interiors of classical or traditional, poses. 1 in fig. In modern interiors, image compositions look good arranged symmetrically. The appearance of disorder in a set of pictures can be given by a combination of several types of symmetry; on pos. 2 - axial along the general contour (rhombus) and doubly mirrored according to the size of the images.

A rectangular photo composition will be advantageous in any setting if the pictures are black and white, pos. 3. In this case, color photographs must be selected not only according to the plot, but also harmonizing in general tone with each other and in general with the interior, pos. 4. If a real mess in the placement of pictures is required, then each should be separated into an aesthetically independent object, for example, using wide margins in a frame, pos. 5.

Mirrors

It is better not to get carried away with mirrors as decorations, a lot of reflections are annoying. You can't hang mirrors in a nursery at all. It is desirable to additionally decorate a decorative mirror, for example. acrylic paints, see next. video clip.

Video: do-it-yourself mirror decor

Stucco and panels

The aesthetics of stucco molding and hanging panels are similar, despite their large external differences. Stucco molding is more suitable for the living room or nursery, because. on any wall goes well with pictures and overhead trifles, on the left in fig. The panel will relax well with the bedroom, in the center. The highlight in this case is either embroidery or stenciled stuffing in the corner of the middle panel.

If you have old furniture lying around with a sidewall or table top half-bleached in the sun, you are in luck: there is a decorative panel for any setting; especially in the office. Interior designers spend a lot of time and effort on aging wooden shields, and it is enough to clean the old one, lacquer it (partially, perhaps with textured varnish) - and the decorative panel is ready, on the right in Fig.

tree and plants

An ornamental tree like the one on the left in fig. above, not every rich person can afford, but wooden wall decor is easy to make from improvised materials. Wall decor made of branches and twigs (in the center) requires only labor for the selection and surface processing of the material. The addition of a wall decor made of branches with contour figures made of paper, plastic or vinyl (on the right) suggests itself, and there will be no traces of adhesive tape on the wall.

Another waste material for decorating walls and ceilings in almost any interior is boards from old building pallets, pallets, see fig. It is best to fasten wooden decor to the wall with segments of bicycle knitting needles driven into plastic dowels for small self-tapping screws: if necessary, the piece of wood is simply removed, and if you remove the peg, then the hole in the wall is almost imperceptible. Permissible load on 1 mount (the pin protrudes at least 1.5 cm) - up to 7 kg.

To the category of "wooden", i.e. eco-friendly natural, you can also include floral wall decor. An ivy ceiling border or wall-mounted vertical flower beds / flowerpots (on the left and in the center in the figure) are quite difficult to grow and maintain, however, with artificial plants of a sufficiently high quality, you can decorate the wall, if not for every taste, but in an original and expressive way, on the right in the figure.

Wall in the ensemble

With a developed artistic taste, a decorated wall can be entered into the overall ensemble of the room and made its closing element. For example, in fig. on the right, the entire decor of the wall is inscriptions; maybe just a marker. By itself, this wall is simply scribbled, and such furniture and curtains against the background of a plain wall would look clumsy. Together, everything is quite expressive. This room, probably, not everyone will like it, but it declares itself clearly and sonorously.

Wall decoration is usually the final stage of construction work. In such a situation, even at the design stage, a color and stylistic solution is determined, materials are selected, and the necessary blanks are made. If we are talking about the need to change the old interior that has become boring for several years, or to transform the appearance of one or more walls without carrying out large-scale repair measures, you can use creative ideas and independently introduce original notes into the decorative solution of the room. How to decorate the walls with your own hands, based on fashion trends, later in our article.

Wall decor with improvised materials

If you have the skills to work with scissors and paints, quickly DIY wall decor can be from ordinary items.

Toilet paper roll decor

  1. After collecting the cardboard sleeves remaining after using toilet paper, they are slightly flattened and cut into equal parts, each of which will later become a flower petal.
  2. Now, from the cut pieces, you need to make a single composition. To do this, all the elements are glued together with side planes, then they are given the necessary shape and painted in the desired color. Elegant paper wall decor ready.

It is important to know! Unusual wall decoration design in a classic house is always popular. Even with minimal financial investment, you can recreate a noble atmosphere in the interior or hallway by making cardboard bricks and painting them in the desired color.

Texture painting of walls

Textured wall painting is used to give them relief and create a bright accent in the interior. During the work, it is possible to use various technologies with which you can transform any room in accordance with your taste.

When using texture painting technology, the surface does not need to be leveled, thus, replacement of a certain section of the wall is possible at any stage.

Below are practical tips that will help you quickly and efficiently decorate walls, while getting an excellent result.

Preparatory work

For best results, before starting work, the walls are plastered one layer good are cleared, then covered with paint emulsion based. Texture paint is applied to the surface in three ways.

  • The wet method is using a cloth.
  • Dry method - using a brush.
  • And the last way is the knurling technology of “rolling” the texture fabric along the wall or ceiling in the same direction.

Texture painting technology:

  1. To begin with, the walls are cleaned of the old paint composition, all cracks are sealed, the place of puttying is polished, after which the surface is covered with a special primer.
  2. Next, to create a tint tone, a base coat of paint is applied. Usually acrylic paint is used for this in light colors (light gray, beige or white). The paint is applied with a conventional roller, which can be purchased at any hardware store.
  3. After applying, you need to wait for the paint to set and only then proceed to create picturesque textures.
  4. The glaze is applied to the wall with a fly brush, pressing the tips of the bristles into the fresh coating, so that a clear structural mark remains on the surface. In order for the deep drawing not to be smeared, it is recommended to clean the bristles of the brush as often as possible.
  5. Depending on preferences, the brush can be replaced with a fabric, the fibrous structure of which will change the texture of the wall, giving it an interesting and unpredictable pattern. Particular attention should be paid to the corners, they must be perfectly even. For butt finishing, it is best to use small brushes.
  6. After the glaze is completely dry, it is necessary to apply varnish in several layers or cover the surface with a transparent glaze without texture processing. Processing the strip from floor to ceiling in one step, it is recommended to do it together.

Performing this type of work is available even to amateurs, but to achieve an excellent result, perseverance and patience will be required.

Wall photo gallery

Decorating one of the walls with photographs brings a sense of family unity to the interior, creates a special mood, awakening the kindest and brightest feelings.

These can be large portraits, genre scenes or ordinary shots captured from everyday life. Collage looks great, allowing you to fit a lot of images. If desired, it can be made thematic by dedicating it to a significant event, anniversary date or one of the family members.

Volumetric photos are an elegant addition to a modern interior

Photos within different sizes and shapes give the interior a modern dynamism. For example, the space makes the space more conservative and static - the design of the wall with rectangular frames, which are arranged along a strict horizontal line in one or more lines. Unites this composition into a single whole - the color shade of the frames.

You can move away from the usual way of posting photos by decorating the wall with a stylized image of a trunk, successfully placing portraits of household members on its branches, creating a whole family tree.

To give the interior sophistication and originality, photographs will help, not framed by frames, but pasted on thick cardboard in juicy shades, echoing the color motifs of other objects. They are fixed on stretched cords, fishing line, chains.

Wise quotes, important wishes, monograms, written on high-quality thick paper in an elegant font and framed by a gilded frame, will be emphasized and romantic. They are placed next to photographs or on an adjacent wall, thus creating a rhythm-filled space.

Important! If the wall area is small, it is not necessary to create a large composition. You can place one photo on a narrow glass shelf, highlighting it with beautiful backlighting.

Volumetric elements

The architectural decor completely changes the surrounding space, becoming the center of the entire room. Having a free wall in a spacious room, with the help of volumetric elements, you can turn it into a cozy relaxation corner, combining it with an exhibition of your favorite collectibles.

Having equipped a shallow false wall, they construct a built-in decorative, small niches with glass and soft lighting. Objects placed in such niches attract attention in such lighting. A portal with antique semi-columns and imitation of stucco will help to decorate the fireplace.

In order not to disturb the harmony, the color scheme of the facade planes is selected to match the overall style of the interior. The color stylized as noble marble looks advantageous.

Frames as an element of decor

Frames allow you to create an amazing world of aesthetics, from which glass is removed, and cardboard is painted in bright colors or completely removed. The material and color scheme of the frame is selected for the specific style of the room.

  1. Strictly shaped rectangular products made of precious woods will easily fit into the classic entourage.
  2. In Provence style, it looks harmonious with smooth lines and rounded corners.
  3. For eclecticism, you can choose frames of the same shade, but of various shapes and configurations.

Another option for wall decor will be a single frame shape, but with a different color and texture of the material.

Empty frames are arranged in various combinations and forms. They can create strict horizontals, verticals, move diagonally. From small frames create geometric shapes or dynamic curved lines.

An interesting stylish image arises if several frames are fixed on one image, breaking it into several fragments.

Use of paintings

It is possible to create a certain mood with the help of paintings, which have long been a win-win option. wall decoration.

Wall decoration in style will be supported by images with clear, ordered lines on an achromatic background. They should have a simple frame without unnecessary decorative elements.

Important! If several small posters are selected, they are aligned along one line.

The noble, ancient style of Provence suggests the presence of paintings depicting idyllic rural landscapes or genre scenes, and frames stylized as solid wood with impeccable varnishing and carving will add more attractiveness to the interior.

Modular paintings bring a touch of modernity to the interior, allowing you to create compositions in accordance with your own preferences. Stylishly combines red furniture and black and white paintings. Adherents of calm elegant solutions will suit floral motifs in beige tones.

mirror fantasies

Designers have a special respect for mirrors, especially when decorating an interior, as with their participation the space visually expands. When fixed under the ceiling along the entire perimeter of the wall, the mirror border creates the impression of a significant increase in the height of the room.

You can bring a sense of celebration and freshness into the room, if you place small mirrors framed by frames stylized as aristocratic marble or mysterious malachite on a free section of the wall. Place them randomly or in a clear order. Free layout brings swiftness, makes the interior more dynamic.

  • A beautiful carved frame with gilding turns the mirror into a bright accent of a classic interior.
  • For high-tech rooms, mirrors are framed with a narrow chrome strip.
  • Eco-style will be supported by deliberately rough bamboo or wooden frames.

Soft decor

Soft panels allow you to create an expressive image of the room, bring coziness and comfort to it. Their surface is created from textiles, leather or faux fur. Adds volume with environmentally friendly padding.

Such decorative elements most often decorate the wall at the head of the bed.

It is possible to create a subtle and sophisticated interior in the living room if you cover sheets of plywood of the right size with a noble fabric. Brocade or velvet with bright colorful ornaments will add an unusual oriental accent.

Such panels, placed on the wall, visually highlight the guest area, where chairs and a table are placed. A decorative fireplace will also fit perfectly there.

Possessing sewing skills, you will be able to complete decorative wall element in timeless patchwork technique ( patchwork). Exclusive knitted products are crocheted or knitted. Openwork or multi-color patterns, well-chosen to the main interior style, give the room a complete author's look.

They are stretched on a round or rectangular base and create a planned compositional pattern. If necessary, use to enhance the overall perception of the frame.

Decorative paper elements

The walls can be skillfully decorated with butterflies, flowers, created from paper - corrugated, writing, papyrus. Light parts are fixed with double-sided tape and are easily restored or replaced with other decor. On a wall painted in a neutral color, the thinnest paper details form lines - horizontal, diagonal, broken, curved, concentric, vertical and others.

You can make them in joint creativity with children. By fixing circles on the fishing line that change color saturation from yellow to orange or from blue to purple, it is possible to create a special dynamic atmosphere.

Use of cymbals

Special charm and sophistication for wall decorations in the interior have wall plates. Collectible items with paintings are quite expensive. However, it is possible to make the kitchen solemnly elegant if fragments of the ornament are glued onto ordinary porcelain or plastic plates. It can be the splendor of refined Gzhel or majestic Zhostovo painting. You can decorate the kitchen surroundings with bright Gorodets motifs.

After spending a little time, you will be able to decorate the plates with elegant pastel or contrasting decoupage ornaments. It will add mood and emphasize the special style of the room by transferring the ornament present on the curtains to the plates. For these purposes, individual fragments can be cut out of the remnants of the fabric and, using a transparent varnish, fix them on a plywood mug.

Important! Plastic products from varnish can be deformed, so PVA glue is used to work with them.

Many things in the house can be decorated with your own hands, without having any special skills or tools. Everything was limited only by the presence of taste. But if we are talking about do-it-yourself wall decor, then in some cases, at least artistic abilities and a brush will be required.

Wall decor stencils

A stencil is a plate (cardboard, piece of paper, piece of wood, plank ... whatever), with a pattern cut out on it. We all remember how in ancient times, when there were no computers yet, and a typewriter was a luxury, they drew letters on paper through a plastic stencil. So, this technology can also be used to decorate walls with your own hands.

You can make your own. To do this, you can use a sheet of thick cardboard. On it you need to draw a picture, for example, a butterfly or a flower, and then cut it out with a clerical knife. After that, you should attach the stencil to the wall and apply paint.

After removing the stencil, you will get an excellent drawing that can be repeated on the wall as many times as you like.

If you use a stencil for wall decoration, then it is better to paint with a spray, not with a brush. The brush can apply paint under the stencil, which will ruin the entire drawing. And the spray will put a good coat of paint in exactly the right place. And it's faster.

DIY wall decor - butterflies

No. These are not the stencil butterflies that were described above. However, the stencil is also useful to us here. But let's talk about vinyl stickers.

The easiest option is to buy the desired vinyl decals from the appropriate store. But then your butterflies will be unoriginal and quite ordinary. More exciting process will be to create them yourself.

To do this, buy a sheet of self-adhesive vinyl, which is sold in hardware stores or in the stationery department. Make a stencil with a cut out butterfly. It would be nice to make several of them, and have butterflies of different sizes.

Apply stencils to vinyl, mark and cut. Then apply a thin marking line on the wall along which your butterflies will stick. For example, in the form of a circle or a spiral. And stick them on.

The most important thing! Remove the protective film from butterflies only in its center, and let the wings remain under the film and not stick to the wall. This will create a voluminous effect. And in this way, the wings of your butterflies will flutter from the weakest draft in the room.

DIY wall decor in the form of voluminous butterflies will look good in. But you can experiment in other rooms, and with other figures.

DIY drapery

Have you ever tried to stick fabric instead of wallpaper on the walls? There is also such a method - called drapery walls. And you can do it yourself. The walls in this case are soft and pleasant to the touch.

Of the advantages of wall drapery, one can single out the fact that you do not have to pre-treat the wall, remove bumps and smooth out cracks. The fabric will lie on the wall evenly and hide all its flaws.

There are several ways to attach the fabric to the wall:

  • Glue. Glue for this is applied only below, near the floor and above, near the ceiling. And also it is necessary to do this at the corners and at the door and window openings.
  • Reiki. They are fixed in the same places where they are smeared with glue. Attach with a powerful stapler.
  • Velcro. This is the latest way to attach fabric to the wall. One half of the Velcro is attached to the wall, the second - to the fabric. All in the same places - above and below. And it sticks. This is convenient because the fabric can then be easily removed, washed and hung back.

The main advantage of do-it-yourself wall drapery against the background of ordinary wallpaper is the presence of only one single seam. It must be placed in the most invisible place in the room, or decorated with something and hidden.

This do-it-yourself wall decor will look good. He will give this room a peaceful comfort.

Frescoes, drawings, paintings

And now, just the very option when excellent artistic skills are required for do-it-yourself wall decor. Let's talk about painting.

First of all, you need to remember the frescoes. In the walls are depicted whole picture scenes. This wall decor nicely ennobles the interior design. But a lot of work will have to be invested in a real fresco.

It is best to choose a place for a fresco in the kitchen or loggia, but not in the place where the stove is. The heat can ruin the paint.

Another kind of drawing on the wall is 3D graphics, which has recently become fashionable. Many have seen drawings on asphalt on TV, which, when viewed from a certain angle, acquire volume. So, the same image can be applied on the wall. This will give an unusual and unique effect to the interior design of any room.

When applying 3D graphics to the wall, remember that some, especially deep images can negatively affect your mood and psychological state. In addition, some drawings can visually enlarge or reduce the room. And also, they have their volumetric effect only from the right angle of view. It is better that the place from which to look at the 3D drawing on the wall is the entrance to the room, bed or seat.

Other do-it-yourself wall decor options

In addition to the described, other methods can be used to decorate the walls with your own hands. For example, using plaster, you can create an excellent pattern. Or simplify the task and cut out a pattern from foam, paint it and stick it on the wall. So you get a three-dimensional effect that retains its three-dimensionality from any angle of view.

We should not forget about decorative tiles, which can, for example, only partially cover the wall. Or, if it is multi-colored, depict some kind of drawing.

If you put putty on the wall, then until it dries, you can create a pattern on it, like a knife through butter. When the putty dries, the drawing will already be indestructible, and will remain on the wall for a long time.

And also, do not forget about the different varieties of wallpaper. You can use it well in wall decor with your own hands. Applying decorative tiles of different colors of a hexagonal shape to the wall. Painting on the walls in the form of trees and birds fluttering between them.

As a rule, home renovation is a complex, unpleasant and sometimes even painfully long process. Among all repair works, the procedure of self-decoration of the interior, giving it a unique beauty and personality, in order to emphasize the taste and preferences of the owners of the house, can probably be considered the easiest and most enjoyable stage.

To decorate the walls in any room of the apartment does not require any special art skills. It will be enough just to use the ready-made examples offered by watching various videos and photos on the skill of decorating. In the process of creativity, the owners usually also have their own decor ideas.

Of course, not every example is available for the implementation of an ordinary master without experience, and the services of designers are not affordable. There are also examples that are simply not acceptable for a particular home. In order to independently resolve this issue, it is necessary to consider all possible options, choosing the most suitable one. Using your imagination, time and desire, you can turn the process of decorating walls into the most exciting creative activity.

Walls that are decorated with their own hands will delight the eye, evoking pleasant memories.

The decoration of the walls in the room is essential for the overall perception of the interior. Empty walls in a room can give the impression of an unfinished design, spoiling the overall impression. Next, the options available to all novice masters for decorating the walls in the room will be considered.

This is an affordable and simple method to add zest to the interior without resorting to the help of professional designers. Today on the market there are “companion rolls” for sale, the combination of which is matched almost perfectly. At the same time, you can choose a vertical or horizontal combination, as well as wallpaper only one wall or the entire room.

Wall murals are a bright accent, eye-catching. You can also have custom printed images or photos of your choice. Such photowall-paper, as a rule, are glued only on one wall.

The wall looks quite beautiful, which is lined with decorative bricks, pebbles, wild stone or mosaics. Another way to decorate walls is to use decorative plaster, which has many additional advantages. It can hide small defects on the walls, it is very easy to apply, and it lasts for a long time. With the help of plaster, you can achieve the effect of various relief images, create convex geometric patterns and shapes. Also used plaster with a pearly sheen. An interesting effect is obtained when using multi-colored plaster.

The most beautiful method of decorating a wall is painting it with paints. This method of decoration was practiced in very ancient times in palaces and temples, covering the walls with incredible frescoes. The painted technology remained practically the same as then, even more simplified. Today, modern finishing materials and new types of paints are used to decorate walls.

Before proceeding with the direct application of the pattern with paints, the surface of the walls must be prepared with putty and a primer. If you have certain artistic skills, you can apply the drawing directly to the wall. Otherwise, you can purchase or download from the Internet the appropriate stencils for painting walls. Such stencils are applied to the wall, immediately outlining with paints or first with a pencil, and then outline the contours of the stencil with paints.

Before drawing a picture, you should first plan a future painting, linking it with the general interior of the room. Creating a visual illusion with the help of painting allows you to reduce or increase the space of the room, creating harmony and comfort in the house.

Mirrors and framed photographs

This idea of decorating walls with mirrors and framed photographs is quite old. A room with family photos has a special charm and comfort. To create a special atmosphere in the house, combining various photos, you should experiment with photos of different sizes and with frames of different colors.

It is not recommended to hang photos of the same size exactly in a row, as this will look boring and not very attractive. You can create compositions from various small-sized photographs by placing one large photograph in the center. Another option is to place one bright large photo on the wall or cover the entire wall with pictures of the same size.

When choosing photographs for decorating, it is important to take into account the general atmosphere of the room where they will be placed. For example, photos with a romantic context are more suitable for a bedroom, general family photos in a living room, and cheerful and positive photos in a children's room.

A mirror is an inseparable part of any interior, without which normal living in a house is not imagined. To decorate the walls with this part, it is enough to fit the original frame for it. The frame can be made from old wooden clothespins coated with acrylic paint and varnish.

A large mirror can be placed in the hallway, living room or bedroom to add charm and completeness to the room. For a child's room, it is recommended to use a small mirror. The main thing is not to go too far with the number and size of mirrors, otherwise the room may become uncomfortable.

One of the simplest and easiest ways to decorate is to decorate the walls with patterns from wallpaper pieces and stickers, forming any pattern from them and carefully sticking them on the wall.

In order for the image to meet expectations, it must be drawn in advance on a computer at an appropriate scale. For a children's room, it is better to make the application bright, and for the bedroom, you can use pastel colors. In addition to drawings, you can also cut out inscriptions, decorating walls with them. Wallpaper cuts can also be framed and hung on the walls.

Vinyl wall decals can be applied to make the interior of the room unique.

To give the room a complete look, you can use fabric paintings or a composition of several paintings with fabrics of different colors in each frame. Pictures should have the same size, but it is not necessary to hang them close to each other, on the contrary, it is better to keep some distance.

A fabric picture can also be one, harmoniously fitting into the design of the room. Pictures do not have to be framed, just stretch them on durable cardboard. On the fabric, you can do embroidery with your own hands, enlivening the appearance of the walls. Embroidered paintings are arranged both individually and in groups.

Decor from buttons, old newspapers, drawings and coffee beans

Framed old newspapers look very unusual. The walls of the kitchen are decorated with paintings and mosaics made from regular coffee beans or buttons. At the same time, the same wallpaper or fabric is taken as the basis, or they are glued directly to the wall in pre-glued frames. With the help of multi-colored buttons, you can make quite interesting compositions and drawings.

The children's room will be perfectly decorated with drawings of children, moving them to new successes in creativity. Applications can be used to replace panels and paintings.

If the owner is wary of experiments and is afraid of sudden changes in the room, then you can use the wall panel technique. Such paintings can be added to the interior at any time and it is very easy to dismantle them. It is very easy to make such a quick decor option yourself. In this case, any materials available at hand are used. Old frames of various sizes are covered with fabric and fixed on the wall, observing a certain geometric order. You can add a retro design effect by replacing fabric canvases with old photographs.

A stencil is the easiest and most creative way to decorate a wall with your own hands, because it can be made by yourself and have absolutely any look. As a rule, materials such as whatman paper, cardboard or any kind of thick paper are used for this.

Using a stencil allows you to depict any drawing, even for those who do not have the appropriate artistic skills. You can depict flowers, trees, petals, stars, bird figures, people silhouettes and much more. This option is ideal for a child's room. Abstract figures, drawings of musical instruments, silhouettes of city sights will look relevant in the living room.

The main task when using this technique is to create the highest quality picture on the wall. To do this, you need to cut the pattern very carefully and carefully strictly along the lines. Care must be taken when applying paint.

To ensure the clarity of application and a snug fit to the wall of the stencil, it is advisable to use high-quality masking tape. Spray paint is recommended as the sprayed paint will lay down very smoothly. It is important to prevent smudges of paint.

In this case, we are not talking about stencils for paint, but about vinyl stickers. These stickers can be purchased from the respective stores. But for the originality of the appearance, it is better to make such butterflies with your own hands. To do this, you need a sheet of self-adhesive vinyl, sold at any hardware store or in the office department. The first step is to make a stencil with a silhouette of a butterfly, and even better if there are several such stencils.

Stencils are applied to the vinyl, marked and cut out. Further, a thin marking line is applied on the wall, along which you will need to navigate by gluing vinyl butterflies. The marking line can be in the form of a spiral or a circle.

It is important to know that the protective film should be removed only in the center of the butterfly, and the wings must be left under the film so that they do not stick to the wall, but create a volume effect. Thus, the wings of butterflies will sway from a weak wind or a draft in the room.

This decor option is also relevant for a children's room, especially for girls. You can also experiment with other shapes for other rooms.

Another method of decorating walls is drapery with fabric, with which you can make the walls soft and very pleasant to the touch.

The advantage of wall drapery is that there is no need for wall processing to remove irregularities and smooth cracks, since the fabric lies on the wall evenly by itself and hides all imperfections.

It is possible to fix the fabric on the wall using the following methods:

  • With the help of glue, which is applied only at the top, near the ceiling, and below, near the floor. Also, glue should be applied at the openings of windows and doors, as well as in the corners.
  • With the help of rails fixed in the same places where glue is applied. Reiki are attached with a powerful stapler.
  • With Velcro, which is the latest method of attaching fabric to the wall. One half of the Velcro is attached to the wall, and the second - to the fabric in the same areas - below and above. Thus, the fabric is simply stuck with Velcro to the wall, which is quite convenient, since the fabric can then be easily removed to wash and hang back.

Another advantage of this method compared to conventional wallpaper is the presence of only one seam, which is located in the most invisible part of the room. The seam can also be decorated with something to hide it. This design is perfect for the design of the bedroom, giving it a peaceful comfort.

Other methods for decorating walls with your own hands

In addition to the above options for decorating walls with your own hands, there are also other ways, for example, creating patterns from plaster or making them from foam. Such figures are painted and glued to the wall, creating the effect of a three-dimensional image.

Also, do not forget about the use of decorative tiles. You can only partially cover the wall with decorative tiles, and create some kind of pattern with the help of colored tiles. Putting putty on the wall, before it dries, images are created on it with sharp tools. After the putty dries, the pattern will become indestructible and remain on the wall for a long time.

Liquid wallpaper is also used for decoration.

Wall decoration, first of all, is the result of a flight of fancy of the owner of a house or apartment. Both the result and the process of performing wall decoration can give a lot of positive emotions. An interesting wall design in the house can be created even from the most affordable materials, and over time, you can replace it with new ideas.
