What is IKEA Method kitchens and how do they differ from others

The name was chosen for a reason. Admit it, what do you miss the most in typical kitchen sets? Design variety? Universal design that will fit into any room? Or maybe the opportunity to complement the existing kitchen with new cabinets and shelves? We are in a hurry to please you - the IKEA METHOD series has it all (details - just below). The methodical fulfillment of the incredible desires of designers and all the requests of practical buyers - now these are not just words!

New modular system - IKEA Method Kitchens

So, how does METOD differ from conventional kitchen cabinets and from the former FAKTUM system?

1. Mobility. First of all - amazing mobility. The design is based on a modular principle, as in a children's designer: connect what you want and how you want. A sort of "Lego" for creative adults.

2. All kinds of sizes. The new IKEA kitchen furniture is a set of various sizes in width (20, 40, 60, 80 cm), corresponding to world standards and 2 height options - for floor cabinets. Thanks to this, the METHOD solves those tasks that seemed impossible. Is the kitchen in the attic or under the stairs? Not a problem - take all the space up to the ceiling with cabinets, and there will be much more storage space.

3. Multilevel. All cabinets are perfectly combined into a single ensemble. This applies to both hanging and floor cabinets - different heights allow you to create multi-level work surfaces. Including - thanks to the legs of different heights. This is especially true for those who cook more than one. Or for those who want to use the space to the maximum.

4. Combination with other rooms. IKEA also supports the current trend - combining the kitchen with other rooms. And in the METOD series there are many universal cabinets that are suitable for any room. A kitchen-dining room, a kitchen-living room, and even a kitchen-entrance hall (for owners of the smallest apartments) - now all this is easy to do.

Two colors of cabinet bodies - white and black-brown (especially for those who do not like "sterile" kitchens). And this means that such cabinets will fit in any interior, including those combined with other rooms. And at the same time, it will not be necessary to purchase additional overhead panels! However, if you want a variety of colors - there are overhead panels in this system.

IMPORTANT! And the METHOD is incredibly easy to assemble. Unlike FAKTUM kitchens, even one person without special skills can manage here, because the kit includes a special wall bar, on which the cabinets are hung. Now you will save not only on custom-made furniture, but also on assembly.

And, besides, lovers of bright colors will like a novelty in kitchen furniture - open modules with color inserts. More about this - just below. And IKEA designers took care of additional lighting for their new kitchens. Lighting the top or bottom of hanging cabinets, illuminating shelves behind glass doors or drawers - all this is much easier to do today than before.

As for FAKTUM kitchens, they have already been withdrawn from sale, but within 6 months from the start of METOD (until 10/1/2015), their elements can be ordered (subject to availability in warehouses). The standard 25 year warranty covers both systems. A few words about facades (doors). Almost all the old design options are in the new system. But there were also novelties, the analogue of which had not yet been. How can METOD kitchen systems be used in practice? There are many options, and we will show here the most interesting ones. The names are further - according to the IKEA name of the doors (= kitchen facades).

Four kitchen tours The IKEA method with matte white doors

Economical white matt fronts (called WEDDINGE in the new IKEA kitchens) are perfectly combined with other doors. What you will now see on the examples of different cuisines.

WEDDINGE + FLADY + TUTEMO

The snow-white matt facades of WEDINGE create the perfect basis for something bright. And the green doors of FLADI and the open color modules of TUTEMO are an excellent backdrop for your favorite little things. The flexible design of the cabinets allowed them to be placed above the stairs, while the vibrant colors made this kitchen a true gem of the home.

Here's what else a combination of white WEDDINGE facades and colored TUTEMO modules might look like:

FLADY

At first glance - the simplest kitchen. But look how FLADI's colorful green facades refresh it! Part of the cabinets were put on legs - so they look lighter and more modern. The kitchen is good not only externally, but also internally - each cabinet and drawer is equipped with convenient shelves and dividers.

Other combinations of bright FLADY doors (matte green or red) + white WEDDINGE:

HITTAN + WEDDINGE

And here the kitchen is in an unusual place - under the stairs. Kitchen cabinets and fronts of different sizes fit perfectly into this impromptu pantry. The cabinet frame was combined with the countertop, and we got a compact kitchen island. And the HITTAN facades with wood texture are ideally combined with the rest of the furniture in the room and the white doors of WEDDINGE.

BROCKHULT + THINGSRID + BJERKET + WEDDINGE

Another METOD combination to see the variety of options for white matte fronts - they are easy to match with anything. Including - immediately with three (!) Variants of a different door design.

In the photo: Cabinet combinations in the IKEA Kitchen

Please note: there are ceiling bevels that would be useless dust collectors in a typical kitchen. But not in the kitchen METHOD! Here, every square centimeter of the wall is used to the maximum. Display shelves METHOD and HORDA for your favorite dishes, modules with textured doors (THINGSRID - dark brown, BROKHULT - gray-brown walnut, BJERKET - birch), a narrow side rack - and all this fits perfectly into the bevels.

Two IKEA kitchens Method with glossy doors

BROCKHULT + RINGHULT

And this kitchen will appeal to fans of eco style. The light-coloured BROKHULT walnut-look fronts pair perfectly with the pure white worktops and glossy doors of the RINGHULT upper cabinets, creating a soft yet fresh ensemble. In addition - white open shelves. Kitchen appliances are hidden behind the same facades, which gives the kitchen a unified style.

RINGULT + GERRESTAD

In the previous version, you saw a white gloss. Now let's show red. Bright red glossy facades RINGULT create a festive mood. And the geometric ornament on the GERRESTAD doors (a novelty that IKEA has not yet had an analogue of) brings an unexpected accent and creates an excellent contrast.

The result is a wonderful kitchen that will appeal to lovers of modern style, including thanks to the spectacular long handles.

Three options for new IKEA kitchens for fans of the classics

SEVEDAL

Someone loves modern furniture, while others prefer the classics. These classic white kitchens are also based on the METOD system. To recreate the hostess's favorite style, doors with SEVEDAL glass were used, thanks to which the kitchen looks expensive and solid.

HITARP

Another classic METOD kitchen, but with a touch of retro. The classic facades of HITARP with moldings are complemented by interesting elements. A wooden module for dishes, black metal rails and a faucet, a ceramic sink - all this turns the kitchen into a charming corner of antiquity.

But old-fashioned doesn't mean uncomfortable. Each of the MAXIMERA drawers is complemented by practical accessories that make it easy to keep a variety of contents in order.

BUDBIN

Pay attention to how much everything fits in this small METOD kitchen! All thanks to a competent solution: cabinets in a row one above the other. Glass doors are combined with deaf ones, forming a very interesting composition. Opposite - open shelves for small things that should always be at hand.

Looking at this kitchen, few people will think that gray is boring. Especially effectively combined with internal lighting.

Interesting combinations of different kitchen fronts METHOD

Now we offer to see how one spectacular door option can be combined with others (complementary).

BROCKHULT + WEDDINGE (RINGULT, GERRESTAD)

If you like the laconic design of the doors in walnut texture (BROKHULT), it can be easily combined with the three white fronts. WEDDINGE - matte, RINGULT - glossy, GERRESTAD - geometric pattern "white on white".

JUTIS + WEDDINGE (RINGULT)

If you are attracted by the glamorous design of doors for upper cabinets - with dark glass and black frames (YUTIS), see how harmoniously it is combined with two options for white fronts - matte or glossy.

RINGHULT + ERSTA

Another interesting IKEA novelty in the world of kitchen doors is bright yellow ERSTA. See what a fresh spring mood is born by combining them with the glossy facades of RINGHULT. The photo shows examples of 2 different cuisines.

TINGSRID + ERSTA

And this is the opposite, but no less effective option. The same glossy yellow doors in combination with the dark TINGSRID wood are an example of modern elegance with a touch of Italian chic. The photos show examples of 4 different METOD kitchens.

In conclusion, a few more words about the practical side

You will surely agree that not only beauty is important, but order in the kitchen. After all, it is much easier to maintain it when everything has its own department, right? Whether you want to put one cup on each of the miniature shelves, arrange a showcase with lighting or make a universal cabinet for every little thing - all this is doable with METOD systems. For greater convenience and better organization, cabinets can be completed with MAXIMERA and FORVARA drawers, and the drawers themselves with VARIERA accessories. Now, behind one sliding door, several completely different drawers can be hidden. Create a combination that will be as convenient as possible for you personally and finally write out a one-way ticket to the kitchen mess!

We hope that you liked our detailed review of all kinds of novelties about the IKEA Method kitchens. Happy choice!

Today I want to talk about the main differences between the new system and the familiar FAKTUM kitchens, which have been on sale for over 20 years.

1. Cabinets will now measure 20/40/60/80/100 cm wide and 60/80/100/140/200/220 cm high. Drawers can be hung horizontally or vertically. IKEA promises over 16,000 possible combinations.

2. Cabinets can now be attached to the wall using a steel rail. This method of fastening should make it easier to align the upper cabinets.

3. The height of the standard plinth has been halved: from 16 to 8 cm. This was done in order to save precious space in the kitchen. Due to this step, it was possible to increase the height of the floor cabinet by 10 cm (up to 80 cm). By the way, the plinth will now be plastic, this will solve the problem of protection against moisture.

4. Black frames appeared. I know that many people have been waiting for this.

5. It will be possible to install from 1 to 8 drawers in floor cabinets. This was made possible by the appearance of very narrow facades, only 10 cm high.

6. Some owners of FAKTUM kitchens had the problem of squeezing out the back wall of the cabinet with its contents. Now this wall will be inserted into the grooves inside the frame, after which it will be additionally fixed with nails. It will still be made from hardboard.

7. Another innovation is the built-in LED lighting, which turns on when you open a drawer or cabinet door.

8. The changes also affected the fittings. Now, in order to adjust the cabinet door in height, you do not need to loosen the fixing screws, the adjustment is available in the hinge fastening mechanism itself. Those who struggled with leveling the doors in height will appreciate it.

9. Finally, a special cabinet with a metal ventilation grill appeared for the oven.

After the withdrawal of FAKTUM from the assortment, the components for it will still be produced within two years. How the 25-year warranty will be implemented is not yet very clear. So, if you are planning to buy a kitchen right now, it may be worth waiting for the appearance of METOD.

When writing this article, materials from the site ikeaddict.com were used.

What is your impression of Ikea furniture? I will answer this question not from the side of the customer, but from the side of a specialist in its installation, since only the consumer can give an assessment of performance.

Assembling an Ikea kitchen is fun

The fact that assembling an Ikea kitchen is a pleasure is unambiguous. These works can be done even by a non-professional. It is enough to take a hammer and a screwdriver, and detailed instructions will be attached to each product. The only question is how long it will take to assemble an Ikea kitchen and how well everything will turn out. I would like to tell you about one case from practice. The client ordered the assembly of four Ikea double-leaf cabinets. During our work, two girls also wanted to assemble a small 40cm locker, deciding that they could do it easily and quickly. While we did everything and were about to leave, they had not finished yet. This confirms that everyone should do their own thing. So professionals should be engaged in assembling furniture, not amateurs.

Need to know about this furniture

For those who need to assemble an Ikea kitchen, you need to know that the furniture of this company is of excellent quality of the materials used and fittings, which exactly matches the parts drilled under it from chipboard. The advantages include a combination of kitchen sets with built-in household appliances of this company. It fits exactly, is easy to install, holds well, and generally lasts a long time. Equipment for Ikea under its logo is produced by Whirpool.

Quality is observed, unfortunately, not in all well-known brands. In the kitchens of Leroy Merlin, Castorama, K-Raut, sold in building supermarkets, reaming may not match the required parameters. So, the holes for the screeds are underdrilled, and for the dowels - overdrilled. Definitely, these errors complicate the work of the collector. In such cases, the craftsmen have to make adjustments so that the furniture is correctly installed.

A little about the assembly of the kitchen Leroy Merlin

I would like to quote Leroy Merlin: "God forbid you order the assembly of the Leroy Merlin kitchen in the store itself when buying a kitchen." Also, it is advisable not to fall for the trick that promises free assembly of the kitchen. It is worth saying that there are no qualified assemblers in the Leroy store. You will be offered the services of non-professionals, perhaps even your friends who need hack work. Our specialists had to deal with the results of such work. Unfortunately, we cannot leave positive feedback about it. There should be a separate conversation about the furniture that the Borovichi Mebel factory produces, although, to be honest, I don’t really want to talk about it. It’s just not clear in what condition the factory workers make it. The only way to justify this is that borovichi furniture has a low cost.

Opinion of a professional assembler

Probably, as a professional assembler, it seems to me that obvious shortcomings catch my eye, but a simple consumer does not notice them at all, or considers them very insignificant. Or, as an option, the customers themselves have lower requirements for the quality of the kitchen, because they don’t expect anything else for that kind of money. Some people agree with this, but I think that the quality of Borovichi is at a very low level.

Here is an example that I encountered during the last assembly of Borovichi furniture. The sidewall of the kitchen pencil case (the same detail) is shown from opposite edges. When properly manufactured, they should be mirror identical, but we do not see this. If you pay attention, the distance from the edge of the part to the center of the hole for the tie should be 8mm, but in this case it is 13mm and 3mm. It won't be hard to imagine how the details fit together. Consider other cases with furniture items purchased in one of the supermarkets. On two we will see an under-glued edge. But this is not the worst flaw in the product, since these raw ends will not be visible later. In the following photos, you can see the result, which was obtained with incorrect reaming of parts for dowels. Please note that only the right side of the cabinet is drilled correctly. The edge is not a piece of chipboard glued incorrectly.

Disadvantages of assembling an Ikea kitchen

What can be attributed to the disadvantages of assembling Ikea kitchen furniture?

First, it's a fairly simple, minimalistic design. Although, a lot is said about their large staff of designers developing new and original models, but for some reason I did not meet them.

Secondly, I would like to say about the assembly of headsets.

The disadvantages include the fact that in the assortment of this manufacturer there are only standard modules (30.40, 60.80, etc.), which is very different from the kitchen, which can be made to order. For example, if you have a dishwasher with a width of 45 cm, then you will pick up the facade only by 50 cm, since they do not provide for 45 cm. More precisely, they are on sale, but only metal. This option can greatly distort the overall style of the kitchen. So, you made all the facades in red, and one, due to the required size, was taken and put in metal. Will it look nice? A very controversial issue.

Such a solution, at the end of the kitchen, a built-in dishwasher with a width of 45cm is located in a cabinet with a metal facade, while others have a brown tone. So the customer has to rack his brains about how best to place the module so that all the “non-standards” of a tiny Russian kitchen room, where ventilation ducts or water pipes protrude from the wall, are taken into account.

In my opinion, the absence of normal wall panels can also be considered a disadvantage in the Ikea assembly assortment. Often assemblers, coming to the client, did not find them at all, or they see them bought in Leroy Merlin or Castorama. As it turned out, Ikea sells them not of the quality that I would like to see. These are small pieces 60x50, made of very thin plastic and inconvenient to install. One more nuance. In my practice, I have never seen the end strips for the countertops of this company. So, if you have to tear it apart to install an electric stove, then the ends can be formed only by using connecting strips. Also incomprehensible is the Ikeevskaya edge made for her. It is much thinner than necessary, and also not self-adhesive. For example, we will take a beautiful Ikea countertop and saw it off with a jigsaw to the length we need. If you pay attention, then it is glued around the perimeter with an ABS edge, the thickness of which is 2mm. For pasting the sawn off side, we are offered an edge with a thickness of 0.4 mm. Wouldn't it seem strange to you that one end would be different from the other?

Before assembling the Ikea kitchen

In addition, before assembling the Ikea kitchen, it is necessary to take into account the need for fastening to the walls “tightly”. So, after you have assembled the cabinet and installed it, you will no longer have the opportunity to even slightly move it. To fix it, you must either saw it under the plinth, or vice versa. Since there is no distance from the wall to the lower module to be installed, which is necessary for utilities, the installer has to make cuts for pipes and sockets. And with this mounting option, there must be even walls and corners, which is a rare occurrence for us.

With all the attractiveness of Ikea kitchen furniture, it is better to entrust the assembly of the Ikea kitchen to professionals, because they know exactly how to do it. Our experts will help you to assemble an Ikea kitchen in Moscow, call +7 499 340 32 21

Ikea kitchen sets have long been in the European furniture markets. These are affordable and roomy interior items in any kitchen space. Therefore, they are in high demand and have good reviews. And recently, the manufacturer released a new product from Ikea called "Method". The facade of the headset, drawers, hinges has been updated. There are roomy shelves for children's accessories.

How to assemble and install an Ikea kitchen set with your own hands? It is not difficult if you have the necessary tools and at least a little experience. Someone's help wouldn't hurt either. So installation and hanging is not an easy task. Yes, and the alignment of objects requires views from the outside.

IKEA furniture is delivered disassembled into individual elements. This scares many. You can, of course, invite an assembly master, but it costs money. Before starting independent work, it is recommended to carefully watch the video, which shows the whole process step by step. In addition, you must read the attached instructions from the breeder. Only then start taking action.

What you need for assembly:

  • plastic buckets - 2 pcs.;
  • Phillips screwdriver No. 4;
  • sticky tape or tape.

Assembly preparation

Do-it-yourself IKEA kitchen assembly begins with unpacking boxes of parts. There are many and it's easy to get confused. And it makes no sense to reveal everything in a row. This will clutter up the place. Better to do this: number all the boxes. Then draw a rough layout of the kitchen. The factory assembly instructions sometimes include a similar plan. You need to carefully look to see if it is included in the kit. Be sure to make a layout of cabinets.

The place for assembly should be comfortable and spacious. It is better to remove all unnecessary items from the room so as not to stumble over them. If the kitchen is small, you can move the details of the headset to a more spacious room. It is important to consider the size of the doorway here. Finished headset items should easily pass through them. Otherwise, it will be impossible to bring the assembled furniture.

Plastic buckets will be needed for folding small parts and tools in them. Buckets need to be placed nearby. The furniture package usually contains simple tools and spare parts necessary for self-assembly.

Step by step build process

  1. Sections are assembled first. If you pre-select parts for sections, you can save time. Therefore, it is better to spend a few minutes and put the elements in separate piles. This way the work will go faster.
  2. The second step will be the removal of the doors from the cabinets, the removal of shelves and drawers. Put these elements together.
  3. The next step is to mount the cabinets. Referring to the instructions, the sizes and types of cabinets are determined. Accordingly, all the details for the boxes are selected. Next, you need to properly install the screws, dowels, locks. This is done with a Phillips screwdriver. It is important to fasten the structure firmly. All sections of the headset are assembled in the same way.
  4. Small pieces are cut from the adhesive tape and glued to the visible areas of the finished sections. Do not remove the tapes until the end of the installation process.
  5. Installation and placement of cabinets is carried out in strict accordance with the manual. All sections must be placed in their place, as in the diagram, which is drawn in advance.
  6. Doors must be hung evenly and accurately. First, the canopies are attached to the base and the door separately. Places of fastenings are marked in advance on the elements. Even a small shift can lead to damage to the part. We'll have to dismantle the canopies and rearrange them to other places. In this case, holes will remain, the view will not be aesthetic. If everything is done smoothly, the door will “sit down” exactly.

It is necessary to check its strength and exclude contact with the base of the cabinet. Otherwise, the facade quickly shuffles out and becomes unusable.

If rails are provided for drawer cabinets, they are inserted into special holes.

Furniture installation

After all the elements of the headset are assembled, they need to be placed in their places. Tables are set up first. It is better to cover them with countertops after placing them in place. In many models of headsets, countertops lie freely on the base and are not attached to anything. Therefore, it is more convenient to impose them in the final stage.

Tables must be level. This is checked by the level. If there are distortions, the legs are adjusted and adjusted to the ideal.

hanging cabinets

After installing the floor cabinets, the wall parts of the structure should be hung. First of all, a place is marked for mounting profiles. These are special strips for attaching wall cabinets. Masters usually measure 140 cm from the floor to the bottom edge of the cabinet. You can also measure from the surface of the tables.

Holes are drilled in the back walls of the cabinets. They have awnings. that are screwed to the walls. Cabinets are hung on mounting strips for these canopies. Some craftsmen also fasten adjacent walls of cabinets for special strength. But, if dismantling is required, it will be difficult to separate them.

Final steps

When the headset is mounted and installed, decorating elements are attached to it. Door handles, glass, etc. Insert drawers.

Check the strength of the structure. Fix the decorative plinth near the countertop.

The assembly of the IKEA "Method" kitchen is carried out in a similar way. The difference between the old IKEA models and the new ones is only in appearance and some small details.
