Academic year when. Holidays in quarters

Holidays are the most favorite time for students. And even those who left the walls of the school a long time ago remember the times of rest with a cheerful smile. Both students and their parents are waiting for a break in the educational process, but the autumn ones - the very first ones - are waiting with special impatience.

When does the holiday start

Many students, and their parents, notice that in different educational institutions the autumn holidays fall at different times. The reason for this discrepancy is the learning process adopted in each particular school. The academic year can be divided either into four parts - quarters, or three - trimesters. At the end of each part, there must be a short break. The 2018-2019 academic year is no exception.

For quarter schools

The minimum time allotted for rest in the fall is one week. Schools prefer to start their holidays on Monday and end on Sunday, respectively. This facilitates the process of load distribution, plus it helps schoolchildren to adapt more easily, to get involved in learning after a break.

As a rule, in institutions with a quarter system of education, the first holidays fall in October, most often in the last week of the month. The autumn holidays 2018-2019 will not be an exception - the rest will begin on October 29. But with the start date of the second quarter, some questions may arise.

The fact is that during the autumn holidays of the 2018-2019 academic year, National Unity Day falls - an important public holiday, and therefore a general day off. It is celebrated on November 4, Sunday. According to the law on the postponement of holidays, the day after the holiday will be a day off - Monday, November 5th. Thus, the holidays are extended for another day, and instead of seven days, schoolchildren will rest for eight whole days. And if we add to this the official weekend before the start of the holiday - Saturday October 27 (if the school has a five-day period) and Sunday October 28, then schoolchildren will have a rest in the fall for nine or even ten days.

Let's summarize:

  • Autumn holidays in 2018-2019 - from October 29 to November 5 inclusive.
  • The last day of school in the first quarter is October 26 or 27. The second quarter will start on November 6th.

For schools with trimester education

With trimester training, calculating the start of the break is somewhat easier. In this process, rest time and study time alternate with enviable regularity: four or five weeks of study are replaced by a week off. That is, a short break in the middle of the trimester and rest at the end of the trimester. It may seem to someone that with such a system of education there are more days off than with a quarter. In fact, the total rest time in both systems is almost the same - the difference can be literally a couple of days.

Students on the trimester system will be able to relax twice in the fall - at the beginning of October and at the end of November.

  • Autumn holidays 2018-2019 in the middle of the trimester - from 8 to 14 October
  • Autumn holidays 2018-2019 at the end of the trimester - from November 19 to 25.

School plans: study and recreation

How is the school year scheduled? Why does the school break fall on different dates every year? Is it really impossible once and for all to prescribe strict dates for the first and last days of rest in the school rules, so as not to ask each year the question of when the rest will begin? Let's try to figure it out.

The school administration finally determines the time period for which there is a break in studies. This right is reserved for educational institutions at the legislative level. The reason is simple: schools do not always have the opportunity to follow the curriculum “from and to”, clearly following every letter and every number written in the documents. In fact, sometimes force majeure circumstances occur, due to which plans have to be adjusted already in the learning process. Accidents (for example, a break in a sewer or a heat pipe), natural disasters (severe frosts or rains that threaten flooding), a state of emergency in the region, outbreaks of diseases (quarantine for influenza, for example) - there can be a lot of reasons. And so that the educational process does not suffer from force majeure, schools are left with the right to change the schedule - reducing or postponing the start and end dates of quarters or trimesters.

Before the start of the school year, the Ministry of Education issues an order specifying the total length of study time and rest time. So, in 2018-2019, a total of at least 30 days are allotted for holidays. And regardless of whether training is conducted in trimesters or quarters, students of all schools in the country for the whole year will have to rest for at least a month (not counting the summer break).

The third quarter is the longest and, perhaps, the most intense of all the components of the academic year. Therefore, a well-deserved break in studies, and this is exactly what spring holidays are, for schoolchildren and teachers, oh, how necessary! Graduates will be able to take a break from school lessons and make the last leap in preparation for the OGE and the Unified State Examination, and the rest of the students will simply sleep longer, take a walk in the fresh air, engage in outdoor games or creativity. And yet, the question of when the long-awaited spring break of the 2018 academic year will be is of concern to all participants in the educational process.

Spring break in studies in quarters

The law "On Education of the Russian Federation" states that an educational institution can independently choose a system for organizing training and set rest periods. This suggests that the educational organization itself decides how to study for it - in quarters or trimesters. And in accordance with this, set breaks for students.

If the school studies in quarters, then this indicates that four quarters are supposed, different in their duration.

  • 1 quarter - 8 weeks.
  • 2nd quarter - 8 weeks.
  • 3 quarter - 10 weeks (for the first classes); 11 weeks (for grades 2-11).
  • 4th quarter - 8 weeks (for grades 1-4, 9 and 11); 9 weeks (for grades 5–8, 10).

In the case when the school schedule provides for quarters, then all holidays are divided in accordance with the seasons, on which students' rest days fall:

  1. Autumn vacation.
  2. Winter.
  3. Spring days of rest.
  4. Long summer break.

The schedule of days free from study in schools is left to the discretion of the regional educational authorities, and sometimes the right to set vacation dates is given to the head of the educational institution - the director of the school. Therefore, a general vacation schedule for the whole country does not exist in principle.

There is a reason for such a policy of the Ministry of Education. Russia is a country of vast territories, and in many cases it is clearer on the ground when it is more correct to establish holidays for children. Only some rules remain common for the whole country, which relate to the number of days of rest for schoolchildren during the school year.

Approximate table of school holidays (by quarters):

holidays Dates
1 autumn 28.10. 2017–5.11. 2017
2 Winter 28.12.2017–8.01.2018
3 spring 24.03.2018–1.04.2018
4 Summer 1.06.2018–31.08.2018

Consequently, after the longest 11-week third quarter, spring days of rest are due for students of secondary educational institutions.

Here are a few examples of when the spring break of the 2017-2018 academic year will begin in different cities of the country, according to documents adopted by local educational departments:

  • Moscow - from 1 to 8 April.
  • St. Petersburg - from March 24 to April 1.

Occasionally, spring break dates may be shifted or canceled due to quarantine during winter flu seasons. This is done to ensure that students have time to complete the curriculum.

Spring break by trimester system

Another nuance regarding vacations is that some Russian schools (and most of them, of course) continue to divide the academic year into the usual four quarters, but there are also those in which the year is divided into trimesters. In schools with three terms, vacations are provided not only at the end of the trimester, but also in its middle, so vacations in schools with different forms of organization of the educational process coincide only in the summer and on the new year. In autumn and spring, they diverge quite noticeably.

As for the schools that use trimesters, most of them are located in Moscow and the Moscow region, so let's turn to the order of the Department of Education of the capital to clarify when spring breaks begin and end in such schools:

  • From February 18 to February 25, vacations will take place, which can be called both late winter and early spring.
  • from 8 to 15 April - spring holidays in such schools.

Please note that holidays from February 18 to February 25 are also provided in Moscow for first-graders in schools that use the traditional four-term mode.

When is your child's vacation? Contact the school!

An important piece of advice that can be given if your interest in spring break is not idle is to clarify the start and end dates at your school. As a rule, such information is published on the school website. If there is no such information, you can check the vacation dates with your child's school secretary or class teacher. Of course, this will be especially useful if, for example, you are planning a family vacation or some other trips during your child's vacation.

Now it is very fashionable for teenagers to keep their own vlogs and upload videos to various social networks. An example of such a vlog by one of our compatriots who left for America with their parents can be seen in the video:

The decision on when to dismiss schoolchildren on vacation in Russia is made by the educational institution itself. In accordance with the order of the Ministry of Education, the duration of vacations, their start and end dates are determined by the school. Only the total duration of study and vacation periods is regulated, allowing children to cope with the curriculum without "overloads":

  • the academic year for first-graders should last at least 33 weeks, for students of other classes - at least 34;

  • the period of summer rest for children is at least 8 weeks;

  • short vacations within the school year must total at least 30 days, and first grade students are allowed an extra week.

Despite the given freedom of choice, most Russian educational institutions adhere to the traditional scheme that developed back in Soviet times when approving the vacation schedule: four quarters, a week of rest in November, two for the New Year holidays, another week at the end of March. Regional education departments usually send out recommended vacation dates in advance of the start of the school year, but the final decision remains with the school administration.

Moscow is an exception. Here, vacation dates are the same and are set by the Metropolitan Department of Education for two options for the study schedule - traditional (quarter) and trimester (modular), when the year is divided into equal intervals and five weeks are followed by one vacation.

In the regions, the dates may vary slightly, but the vast majority of schools, gymnasiums and lyceums will have the same curriculum.

School year start and end dates

2017-2018 academic year traditionally starts September 1, on the Day of Knowledge. This year, the first week of school will be very short - the first day of autumn falls on the calendar on Friday, so that students will have the opportunity to smoothly move from rest to study.

The end date of the school year may be slightly shifted due to the peculiarities of the academic schedule. Primary grades will be the first to leave for the summer holidays - their school year will end May 22-24. Middle and high school students will study for a few days longer, for them the last day of school will be May 25-26. In Moscow schools that have chosen a modular mode of study, high school students will sit at their desks the longest - until the 31st.

9th and 11th grade students taking final exams will be exempted from study hassle in accordance with their exam schedule. The Unified State Examination and the OGE will begin in the last week of May and will run until the end of June.

graduation parties most will pass during the period from 23 to 25 May(they are not recommended to be held on June 22, on the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow), but if a student takes any exams on reserve days, his exam marathon can continue after receiving a certificate.

Fall break dates 2017

According to a long tradition, the autumn holidays in schools are held the first week of November. In Soviet times, they were "combined" with the celebration of the anniversary of the October Revolution, but now they fall on National Unity Day, celebrated on November 4th. In 2017, the holiday will be a Saturday, and due to the postponement of the holiday to Monday, November 6, adults will have a three-day mini-vacation. For schoolchildren, these days, of course, will also be "time off" - an extra day of rest will be "added" to the usual weekly duration of the November holidays.

In most Russian schools, the autumn holidays - 2017 will be held according to the following schedule:

  • duration - 8-9 days;

  • official start– October 30 (Monday) or the previous Sunday;

  • last day of rest– October 6 (Monday) or October 7 (Tuesday).

Winter holidays schedule at school in 2017-2018 academic year

The middle of the school year will traditionally be marked by a two-week period of winter rest timed to coincide with the celebration of the New Year and Christmas. This is perhaps the most significant vacation of the school year. If only because the January holiday decade in Russia is the only time when both adults and children at the same time get rid of daily troubles for a long time and can plan quite long trips with the whole family. Therefore, it is especially important to find out the exact timing of the winter holidays in schools.

By tradition, schoolchildren are allowed to rest 3-4 days before the New Year, and they go “to the machine” almost simultaneously with adults - either on the same day or the next, and the period of the all-Russian weekend completely “fits” into children's holidays.

In the winter of 2017-2018, the “typical” school vacation schedule will be as follows:

  • duration - 14 days;

  • first day of rest– December 28 (Thursday);

  • last day of vacation– January 10 (Wednesday).

Additional holidays for first grade students - 2018

The third quarter is the longest and usually the most difficult for students. To "unload" the smallest, in February, first-grade students are given an extra week of rest. In addition, the February holidays are recommended for students of correctional schools, and in some educational institutions even the entire “primary school” can rest in February - from 1 to.

The timing of additional holidays is the most variable, in some regions they are preferred to be held at the beginning of February, and in some - at the end of the month, on the week when Defender of the Fatherland Day is celebrated.

In 2018, the first classes will rest for either a week from 5 to 11 February(this option may be the most common), or from the 17th to the 25th.

School Spring Break Schedule 2018

The date for which spring break is “aspiring” is April 1. In the fourth quarter usually began on this day. In 2018, the first day of April will be Sunday. And in most schools, the rest schedule will be like this:

  • duration - 8-9 days,

  • vacation start– March 24 (Saturday) or March 25 (Sunday);

  • last day of rest- April 1 (Sunday).

In some schools, the schedule may be shifted a week ahead, and students will rest a week later, April 1st to 8th.

Official vacation schedule for Moscow schools: traditional and trimester (modular) modes of study

In the capital, vacation dates for the 2017-2018 academic year are dictated by a special order of the city department of education. It was signed on 03/09/2017.

In accordance with the order in schools where children study on, holidays will be announced:

  • in October- from 1 to 8 number;

  • In November- from 5 to 12 (in fact, children will start resting a day earlier, November 4 is a general day off);

  • on New Year's holidays– from December 31 to January 10;

  • in February– from 18 to 25;

  • in April- from the 8th to the 15th.

In educational institutions of Moscow, working according to the "classical" system four quarters, the following vacation periods will be established:

  • autumn - from October 29 to November 6;

  • winter - from December 31 to January 10;

  • additional February– from 18 to 25 February;

  • spring - from 1 to 8 April.

How to find out the exact vacation dates for a child

Since the final decision on vacation dates is made by the school authorities, the dates of their start or end in different educational institutions may not coincide with the “average” schedule.

There are several ways to find out the vacation schedule at your school.

  1. Go to the official website of the school. By law, all "calendar" information must be contained there. As a rule, it is located in the "Organization of the educational process" or "Schedule" section.

  2. Look into the child. Vacation schedules may be posted in the announcement or parent information sections. But even if this is not the case, you can try to "scroll" the magazine for the period of the proposed vacation and "calculate" the exact dates - no lessons will be scheduled for them;

  3. Ask your child's class teacher. The schedule is usually approved in the summer, sometimes even earlier. By the time the school “roll calls” are held, teachers usually already have this information.

  4. Call the reception and check the vacation dates with the secretary of the educational institution.

holidays, regardless of the season, the most favorite time for all students. They are waiting for both first grade students and school graduates. The holidays of the 2017-2018 academic year St. Petersburg, which all young St. Petersburg residents dream of, are no exception.

During the holidays, you can play enough with your peers in various exciting games, go out of town and enjoy nature, as well as visit loved ones living in another city.

When do school holidays start?

Every year, the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation draws up a schedule of school holidays, which is advisory in nature. Educational institutions develop their vacation schedules, taking into account the recommendations of the higher department.

The question arises - why this procedure is repeated every year? The answer to this question is very simple. Days off and holidays change every year, which requires constant adjustment of the educational process. Agree that it is not logical to set the start of the holidays for some holiday or weekend.

At the beginning of each academic period, the developed schedules are approved by the administration of educational institutions, and brought to the attention of all students and their parents.

In different educational organizations, vacation periods may differ, despite the fact that teaching is conducted according to the same program. This applies to both the city of St. Petersburg and other cities of Russia.

The vacation schedule for 2017-2018 has not yet been approved by the Ministry of Education. This procedure takes place six months before the start of the educational process.

At the same time, this does not prevent you from independently calculating the beginning and end of the holidays, taking into account recent experience. In this process, it is important to take into account the dates of holidays and weekends, as well as the form of education at school.

Now in the schools of the Russian Federation two forms of education are common:

  • by quarters;
  • by trimesters.

Trimester education

If the old system has already been tested and is known to everyone, then the new form of training in trimesters is just beginning to operate in the Russian Federation. Let's try to figure out what its specifics are.

This training system was developed by Russian specialists involved in hygiene and education of students in the Russian Federation. Scientists of a special research institute noticed that after five weeks of the educational process, the assimilation of students decreases sharply. This was the reason for the development of a new training system. At present, it is impossible to unambiguously evaluate the effectiveness of the new form. So far, there are intermediate results of research on this matter. Time will tell if the choice of the trimester system was correct.

Vacation schedule for schools teaching in quarters

The first in the academic year 2017-2018. there will be autumn holidays. They will start at the end of October and last until the beginning of November. The end of the holidays during this period will be affected by National Unity Day, which will be celebrated on Saturday 04.11.17. The day off according to the existing legislation should be postponed to 11/06/17, so the autumn holidays will last from 10/28/17 to 11/06/17 inclusive.

Winter holidays in St. Petersburg will begin, as in all educational institutions in Russia, at the end of December and will last until 01/10/18. This is usually the first working day after the long January holidays. Thus, taking into account the experience of past years, winter holidays for schoolchildren will be within: 12/25/17 - 01/10/18.

Children enrolled in grade 1 will be able to take advantage of additional days off. This is done so that the fragile children's body can fully recover, and is ready to receive new knowledge by 01/10/18. As a result, the winter holidays for first-graders will begin six days earlier - 12/19/17 and end on 01/09/18.

Spring break traditionally starts at the end of March and will last until the beginning of April 2018. During this period, there will be no holidays in the country, so these holidays will depend only on weekends. Based on the experience of previous years, spring break will be held from 03/26/18 to 04/01/18.

Summer holidays usually take a full three months. This is the most fertile time for all schoolchildren in Russia. You can forget about textbooks for a while and devote yourself completely to rest.

In fact, summer holidays are approved in different educational organizations in different ways. There are educational institutions in which holidays take 2-3 months. In addition, there are educational organizations in which certain tasks are given for the summer period. We must not forget that there are always students who are lagging behind the existing curriculum, so they are forced to improve their knowledge before the start of the next educational process.

Vacations in the summer should be spent with sense and benefit. If necessary, you can help your parents with household chores or learn something new. You need to skillfully plan your free time in order not only to gain strength, but also to do something useful.

School holidays with trimesters

In such educational institutions, it is much easier to calculate vacation periods than in standard schools. Here, training is conducted according to the 5 + 1 formula. There is a five-week educational process followed by a week-long vacation. That is, every 35 days alternate with a week-long vacation. The exception is winter holidays. Here they completely coincide with schools in which training takes place in quarters.

What holidays look like in a trimester school is given by the following table:

holidays Term
autumn 09.10.17 – 15.10.17 and 20.11.17-26.11.17
Winter 12/25/17 - 01/08/18 and 02/19/18 - 02/25/18
spring 09.04.18 – 15.04.18
Summer 01.06.18 – 31.08.18

Possible deviations in the vacation schedule

Recently, schoolchildren from different cities of Russia have noticed that their holidays do not coincide in dates. This may be due to many reasons, including the fact that in many schools in the Russian Federation the educational process proceeds at different speeds. That is, some educational institutions conduct training according to the schedule, others are ahead of schedule, and still others lag behind the established pace of the educational process. The latter may be due to various force majeure circumstances. It can be:

  • severe frosts, which have been observed more than once in Siberia;
  • floods, not uncommon in the Far East;
  • epidemics of influenza and other diseases that have hit the Urals and Central regions of Russia in recent years.

Missing classes for the above reasons can significantly disrupt the schedule of the educational process and cause not only the postponement of the start of the holidays, but even their reduction. With any changes in the vacation schedule, the opinion of teachers and, if necessary, the parent committee of the educational institution is taken into account.

Holidays - periods of rest from study for schoolchildren.

In Moscow, the vacation schedule is set by the city Department of Education. It is the same for all schools.

Autumn vacation

The period of the autumn school holidays depends on the system of education that is adopted at the school.

Students in quarters have a rest in the fall once: in late October - early November. Holidays last one week.

Students in trimesters have a rest in the fall twice: in October and in November. Each vacation lasts one week.

November 6 will be an additional day off for the week of holidays. This is due to the fact that on Saturday, November 4, National Unity Day is celebrated. According to the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, weekends in honor of public holidays that fall on Saturday or Sunday are transferred to the next business day. In 2017, this is Monday November 6th.
