LED lighting above the bed. How to make a backlight under the bed? Let's first figure out what kind of backlight you bought

Everyone strives to make their housing truly unique, but different rooms are given different attention. Most often, experiments begin to be carried out in the bedroom, since it is hidden from others and can only be fully decorated in accordance with the wishes of the owners. Making the interior of the bedroom unique is not so difficult. Only half an hour, for example, will be required to organize the lighting under the bed using LED strip. You can cope with its installation yourself.

There are several LED strips, so you will need to start by choosing this material. The most affordable are 220 volt LED strips. But for the bedroom, this option is not very suitable, since the emitted light is too bright and cannot be adjusted. An ordinary LED strip, which is sold literally everywhere, will also not require large expenses. But at the same time, it will be necessary to purchase an additional block.

RGB tape is an option for those who want to make the lighting under the bed unusual. There are many color options in this tape. A special remote can be used to control the glow. RGB controller and remote control are sold separately from the tape.

The cost of these options is different, but in practice the investment justifies itself. The interior looks better, the more expensive materials for lighting are used.

The required length of the tape is quite simple to determine. To do this, you need to decide where exactly the LEDs will be attached and measure the bed. It is worth adding at least five percent to the received data in order to avoid possible problems in the future. It is desirable to solve connection issues in advance. The options depend on the selected type of LED strip.

The bottom of the bed is best suited for fixing the backlight. Lighting in this case is optimal for the bedroom. Clamps can hold the tape for a long time. If you cannot use them due to the characteristics of the bed, you can choose other options. When using glue, degrease the attachment points with refined gasoline or alcohol. After mounting the tape and connecting all the provided elements to each other, you need to check the operability of the backlight. With the right actions, it will immediately start working.

Dyurlight instead of LED strip can also be used. It will cost less, but in terms of characteristics it practically does not differ. But at the same time, some people do not like its glow, so you need to focus on personal tastes and preferences.

When it comes time to equip the bedroom, you want to make all the elements truly unique. The same applies to the bed, now you can independently make the backlight of the bed with LED strip in just half an hour. In this article, we will tell you how to connect the tape to the bed and look at step-by-step instructions.

Necessary materials

Please note that each of these options has a different cost. However, the higher it is, the better it will look in your interior.

How to make bed lighting with LED strip: step by step instructions

Now let's move on to the most important thing and try to talk about how to make the backlight in the bed yourself. In fact, there are no special problems in this matter, the main thing is to show a little patience and desire.

After watching this video, you can effortlessly make high-quality bed lighting in your home.

Note! Instead of the usual LED strip, you can use durlight. It has similar characteristics and has a lower cost. However, the light of its glow leaves much to be desired, so it's up to you to decide.

Building furniture with your own hands is not an easy task. But with the will and the tools, anything is possible. This master class will demonstrate how to build a bed, but a little unusual. Its back will have a built-in LED backlight, which will allow you to read before going to bed, as well as a special device for charging your mobile phone.

materials

To make a bed with LED lighting with your own hands, you will need:

  • bars and boards, including boards of wood in a contrasting red color;
  • LED Strip Light;
  • car USB connector;
  • soldering iron;
  • solder;
  • wiring;
  • adapter;
  • carpentry tools;
  • charger boards;
  • wood glue.

Step 1. The very first step is to create a bed layout. You can sketch it on paper, at the same time noting all your calculations, including materials, or create a layout in an appropriate graphics program. The final project of this bed looked like in the photo. The bed has a headboard into which the tape will be embedded. There is not a high board on the opposite side, the legs of the bed are bent downwards outwards. The mattress will be supported by cross beams in the box and the bed will be high enough to have storage underneath.

Please note that your layout must be responsive. Be prepared for the fact that you will have to correct some sizes. This can be affected by the source materials, or rather their dimensions.

Step 2. Make a panel from mahogany boards. In this case, the boards were narrow, and therefore large squares for the headboard had to be glued together. For this work, use wood glue and clamps. Apply glue to the sides of the squares, fix the boards and after half an hour remove the excess glue that has come out, leaving the parts of the headboard in this state until completely dry.

Step 3. It's a little harder to make the legs. In this project, they had to be curved. The basis of the legs will be a regular 4 x 4 timber of the size that suits you. Adjust its length in accordance with your own project. In the lower part, on one side, you need to make a saw cut, and on the opposite side, glue small pieces of the remnants of the timber, fitted to the desired shape. The legs should also be fastened with wood glue. After the materials have completely dried, the legs must be sanded. First with coarse sandpaper, and then with fine-grained sandpaper for a smoother texture.

Step 4. The next step is to make the base for the headboard and for the opposite side of the bed. Outwardly, they will resemble rails fastened with transverse boards. Attach all parts to each other with self-tapping screws and wood glue.

Step 5. Blanks for panels should be made more aesthetic. To do this, the edges of squares and rectangles need to be cut off and then sanded. Please note that this is painstaking work, it is better to prepare a layout for setting up a router in advance.

Step 6. Insert the finished panels into the frames for the headboard. Secure all parts together with wood glue and clamps. Remove the latter after the glue has completely set.

Step 7. It is also necessary to make a bed box. To do this, fasten all the side parts together and prepare holes for attaching the cross beams. You need to fasten them together with bolts and wood glue.

Step 8. Now for the head of the bed you need to make a flap that will mask the tape. The damper itself is a thin figuratively carved board with a length equal to the headboard.

Step 9. On the side of the headboard in the bed, you need to cut out the grooves for the USB connector. The circuit itself, the wires and the adapter from the car USB should be carefully inserted. To close these inserts from boards of the same color, it is necessary to cut out the plates with holes and insert them into place.

Step 10.The LED strips should be fixed in the gap under the top cross board of the headboard.

Step 11. In order for the LED strips and USB connectors to be charged, you need to install adapters in the back of the headboard. Use the touch sensors to enable/disable the strips. All these structural details must be connected using soldering irons and wires.

Many of us have come across a situation where we want to do something interesting at home, but at the same time not expensive or complicated. Any finishing work does not fit into the formula described above. even ordinary wallpapering requires a lot of effort and energy. And it's hard to surprise guests with new wallpapers...

So we decided to offer you a new and interesting solution - neon bed lighting. I’ll make a reservation right away that by “neon illumination” we mean LED because. it completely replaced neon tubes 5 years ago.

So let's start with planning. Given - a bed about 7 meters in the perimeter, a small room without repair, an outlet in the other corner, shabby bad linoleum. This combination is almost the worst option to work with. in a bad interior, the backlight looks somehow not very appropriate. On the other hand, the more complex the example, the better it is.
The task is to make it look beautiful.

First of all, based on the fact that the bed is in the corner, we decide to highlight only 2 sides, the total length of which is 3.5 m. For these purposes, you can take + +

The most difficult thing in all the work is to solder the wiring in one place. If you can handle this, then the rest will seem like a mere trifle. Here is an approximate set of what is required (only a soldering iron is better to take two times less). In the photo, tape, remote control, controller, board, rosin, solder, soldering iron, scissors. Behind the scenes - electrical tape, wires, power supply.

We measure the length of the sides of the bed. We got 2 m by 1.5 m. Accordingly, we cut our tape into pieces of this length. We cut along the cut lines. We get two pieces. As you probably understood, we will have the corner of the bed in the place of the cut, and we cut it just so that the tape can bend in this place. Next, solder these 2 pieces with a 5 cm piece of wire. We took a 4-wire telephone wire, but by and large it is not very convenient! It is better to take 2 two-wire copper wiring.

Next, solder one more wire to one of the ends of the tape - it will go to the controller. Obviously, the length of the wire should be equal to the distance to the controller measured along the wall of the room (since the wire will go there), which means that the place for it must be thought out in advance. Attention! in this example, the controller is used for IR communication, that is, its sensor must be in a visible place so that it can be "hit" by the remote control. If this option does not suit you, you can take it. After the wires are soldered, you can check the circuit. Attach the + tapes to the + of the power supply, then apply all 3 minus tapes to the power supply in turn. If everything is done correctly, then the colors will light up the same on both pieces (red, blue and green). If different colors light up, or, for example, yellow comes from somewhere, then 100% is not correctly soldered. Check the contacts carefully - most likely they are shorting a little.

Next, stick the tape on the edge of the bed!

Having pasted the entire tape - we reach the junction with the wall

In our example, we are dealing with a terrible wooden baseboard. Therefore, we simply wring it out with a screwdriver and lay a tape for it. If you have an ordinary plastic plinth, then you can lay the wire in the cable channel (if it is there), if not, you will also have to wring it out somehow.

Thus, we bring the wire to the controller, connect it to the power supply. Actually everything!

We look at the result, and we don’t really like it.
a) on the floor glare from diodes
b) illuminated leaky linoleum looks very bad

We make a decision! lay a carpet with a thick and long pile. This solution turns out to be very successful.

We draw your attention to the amazing brightness of the backlight. Even during the day in a well-lit room, it is still very bright. At night, she is just beautiful!

Spectacular illumination of the bedside space is another decorative application of the LED strip. For a double bed, it will become a kind of highlight that will create an intimate atmosphere in the room. And such an unusual design of a children's bed will save the child from complete darkness during sleep. He will cope with such an interesting task, and everyone can make a bed with illumination with their own hands. All you need is a few hours of free time, a small reel with LED strip and a handy tool.

Preparation and mounting options

At the preparatory stage, the size of the bed and the place to place the LED strips and are calculated. To do this, you will have to remove the mattress, find the optimal place for mounting the LED strip so that its light is directed downwards, and measure the length of all segments that will be located along the perimeter of the structure. Then you need to select the type of light emitting chips:

  • SMD 3528 IP20 with a brightness of 420 lm, costing about 60 rubles / m;
  • RGBW-SMD 5060 IP33 with a brightness of 2000 lm, costing about 200 rubles / m + RGBW controller;
  • or another intermediate option.

After that, you need to purchase an LED strip and the same length. Why the cost of a profile? Firstly, the LED tape will adhere well to a clean and smooth surface of the profile, and secondly, it will serve as a radiator, since rather powerful LED tapes are not recommended to be used without additional heat sink. Often the load-bearing part of modern double beds is made of fibreboard (MDF) or wood, which have extremely low thermal conductivity. But even if the bed frame is made of steel, it is not advisable to glue the LED segments to it. Only inside the aluminum profile, the LED strip will be reliably protected from any mechanical impact, such as:

  • vacuum cleaner tubes during cleaning;
  • children's curious hands;
  • teeth and paws of pets.

You can use a cheaper option - a plastic cable channel. It costs an order of magnitude less and is sold in every hardware store. It's just that it will not be possible to make a very bright and even more so RGB backlight of the bed. Plastic will not be able to dissipate heat from the radiating crystals for a long time and effectively, which will lead to their degradation already during the first year of operation. For installation in a cable duct, an LED strip without a silicone coating of the SMD 3528 type with an element density of 30, 60 or 120 pcs/m of any glow color is suitable.

At the last stage of the preparatory work, you need:

  • cut the LED strip and profile into segments of the desired length;
  • degrease the inner surface of the profile for reliable adhesion to the LED segments;
  • prepare connecting wires and, if desired, a switch.

circuit diagram

The electrical circuit of the backlit bed is extremely simple and consists of only 2 key elements: a power supply and an LED strip. If the use of RGB or RGBW tape is used, then the scheme is supplemented with an RGB or RGBW controller. Below is a backlight scheme using a multi-color LED strip.

Assembly and connection of bed lighting

Depending on the type of LED strip and the location of the power source, a cable of the appropriate length and number of wires is selected. For safety reasons, as well as to ensure sufficient load capacity, it is better to use a double-insulated stranded copper cable with a cross section of 1.0 mm 2. It is flexible, well tinned and calmly (without overheating) passes current up to 6 A.

It is highly undesirable to use a twisted pair cable as a power wire for bed lighting. The cross section of one core is approximately 0.2 mm 2, which means that it can skip no more than 1.5 A, and then with gradual melting of the insulation from overheating. So to connect powerful RGBW tapes, you need a more reliable option.

For the electrical connection of individual sections of the backlight located around the perimeter of the bed, you can use special connectors with existing wires. This method will speed up the assembly process and allow you to quickly disassemble the structure in the future. If this method is unacceptable, then all sections will have to be soldered together with separate wires.

Having all the necessary parts of the LED lighting for the bed, you can proceed with the assembly in the following sequence:

  • glue the LED strip into the profile;
  • solder the wires with polarity or fasten them with connectors;
  • connect the power supply and make a test run;
  • fill the place of soldering inside the profile with hot-melt adhesive;
  • attach the finished backlight to the base using standard latches, self-tapping screws or ties, depending on the type of bed.

For a greater lighting effect, one of the 4 LED segments is attached behind the back of a double bed at the head, directing the light flux upwards. Exposed live parts of the RGB controller, power supply and wires are securely insulated to prevent fire and eliminate electric shock.

A bed with LED lighting will be much more functional if a wi-fi module is built into the controller. In this embodiment, the operation of the backlight can be controlled from a smartphone, easily changing the brightness and color. In addition, the program allows you to set the time to turn on / off the bed light, set an alarm with a smooth increase in brightness, and use other useful functions.
