Drying order:

Another way is to dry delicate flowers with cotton wool. Stems with peduncles are vertically inserted into the slots in the cardboard so that the buds remain on top and the stems hang down from below. The second option of laying - in boxes on stands. The voids are carefully filled with cotton wool, and so that the plants do not move, they are wrapped with gauze, mesh and secured with threads. The process takes at least two weeks. This method is suitable for harvesting chamomile, gladiolus, rudbeckia, poppy, rose.

Important! The flowers should be fully bloomed, and the day should be dry, sunny, but it is better to cut the stems in the afternoon

Since the flowers are flat during herbarium drying, this method is suitable as a blank material for panels or paintings. The first option is to lay leaves, petals, herbs between sheets of cardboard, tie with a rope or elastic band and put a press. If you use plywood instead of cardboard, then you need to additionally lay newspapers or filter paper.

After pressing, the flowers become completely flat.

The second option is to use a metal or synthetic mesh stretched over wooden frames. In this case, you will also need a gasket in the form of sheets of paper. Such frames are fastened together and hung in a ventilated place for drying. The term, depending on the type of plants, is several days.

This press is suitable for harvesting a large number of plants.

Advice. The same effect can be obtained by ironing the plants with an iron: place them between two sheets of paper and warm them up, checking for readiness

Thermal methods

The oven is used for plants with a hard structure, such as twigs, cones, etc., since the delicate ones shrink and can burn out at high temperatures.

The microwave dries quickly - in a few seconds or minutes. There are no clear rules, there are only recommendations:

• power should be no more than 500 W;
• flowers should only be dried, and then air-dryed to the end.

Herbs with a hard stem and small flowers, such as lavender or gypsophila, are excellently dried in this way.

How to care for dried flowers

For all their originality and tenderness, dried flower arrangements are very fragile and react to sunlight, so there are special rules for caring for such bouquets:

• Humidity is the number one enemy of dried flowers. Avoid dripping water on dry plants. If there is a humidifier in the room, it is better to remove the bouquet to another room.
• Direct sunlight is harmful not only to freshly cut, but also to dried flowers. As a result, they will fade, dry out and crumble ahead of time.
• Settled dust cannot be swept away with panicles or crushed, but blown off only with a stream of warm air from a hair dryer.
