Toilet room design

The main task of design is the functional use and visual expansion of the boundaries of a compact area. The task is solved by a competent selection of finishing materials, colors, inclusion of sanitary equipment in the interior of the toilet.

Finishing materials

For lining and highlighting individual sections, the design of the toilet room uses:

  • ceramic tiles,
  • moisture resistant wallpaper (vinyl, non-woven),
  • Wall panels,
  • mosaic,
  • pebbles
  • tempered glass,
  • for the ceiling - stretch fabric, moisture-resistant drywall.

The compatibility of materials and colors in the interior of the toilet are selected during the development of the project.

Advantages of ceramic tiles

A lavatory must always be clean and dry, which is why the design of the lavatory places special demands on the cladding. In the first place is ceramics with its own characteristics:

  • moisture resistance,
  • durability and practicality
  • easy to clean
  • a large range of formats and decors.

When buying ceramics for a bathroom, it is important to remember three rules. Floor tiles are not suitable for walls, because has more weight. Wall-mounted can not be laid on the floor, because. it breaks under load. For technical needs, they buy a stock of 10-15%.

Layout methods that adjust the interior of the toilet

  • If the design of the toilet room is created for a narrow and elongated space, then large-format floor tiles will visually push the walls apart. Rectangular fragments laid with the long side across the room will also help.
  • With the help of borders, the design of the toilet will reduce the height of the room, as will the combination of a dark floor and the bottom of the walls with a light top.
  • With vertical inserts in contrasting or ornamental ceramics, the toilet design will elevate low ceilings.
  • The diagonal layout on the walls and floor will visually expand the cramped room, however, at the same time increase the consumption of material.

Combined toilet design

Clear zoning is the principle of designing a combined bathroom. One way to demarcate space in a narrow typical room, which suggests the design of the toilet room, is to install a shortened bathtub perpendicular at the end.

With a lack of space, the font is replaced with a shower cabin, and the interior of the toilet can be supplemented with a bidet on the freed square meter.

LED lighting focuses attention on certain areas (mirror over the toilet, hanging cabinets, volumetric panels), leaving other parts in the shade.

Universal means of zoning - partitions. On the border of the bathroom and the restroom, transparent, stained glass or plastic ones are installed. Sometimes it is enough to introduce a low jumper into the design of the toilet, on which a hygienic shower is attached. If the toilet is located close to the entrance, it will be covered by a blank partition. A cardinal trick is to place the toilet behind opaque sliding doors.

Zoning with a color accent - tiles in a contrasting color, passing from the floor to the wall or from the wall to the ceiling. For such a highlight, the design of the toilet uses a coating not only of a different shade, but also of texture.

Freestanding washroom design

In a compact bathroom, functional areas are delimited by color, tile layout, and finish texture. Suspended plumbing saves space, communications are hidden in a wall or a special box. The interior of the toilet uses an alternative to cabinets - niches with transparent shelves. Facing the end of the room with mirror panels, the design of the toilet pushes the walls apart.

Toilet interior: color rules

Harmonious combinations of beige and brown, dark blue and white, blue, cream. The contrast of white and black will require care not to create a gloomy and overwhelming toilet design.
Separate areas stand out with paint different from the background: the wall behind the toilet and bidet, the washbasin area, friezes and borders. With decorative elements, the design of the toilet dilutes the monochromatic environment.

An effective step is a contrasting palette or a combination of shades of the same range. The walls are divided into horizontal sections, the lower third (tiles, wooden or marble panels) is dark, the upper part is light.

Color combinations are introduced into the interior of the toilet with the help of a difference in floor and wall finishes, which is especially important when the area is small so that the planes do not merge.

Classic bathroom design

The choice of finishes, color scheme and decorating techniques is directly influenced by the interior style of an apartment or house. The interior of the toilet in a classic way is a luxurious setting with characteristic features:

  • facing with marble, wood, gilding, stucco,
  • wide friezes, ornamental wallpaper,
  • monumental furniture, carved frames,
  • floor panels with a classic pattern, wall frescoes,
  • pastel, natural colors.

Modern toilet interior characterize

  • plumbing of unusual shapes (cubes, balls, inclined cylinders),
  • strict geometry of furniture,
  • plastic, glass, metal, wood tile,
  • depending on the task - contrasting or neutral tones, coloristic accents.

Toilet decor: 7 ways to make the bathroom the most unbearable place in your apartment and 7 steps to turn it into the perfect room for "thinking"

The toilet room is very often undeservedly left without due attention in terms of beautiful design. Only a toilet bowl and monotonous bare walls of a hospital shade. It is with such a “landscape” that you have to start the day, which leaves its mark of despondency on it. It is he who is contemplated by the guests just at the moment when you cannot distract them with a conversation, and this “works” not in favor of increasing the authority of the hosts.

Personally, at home, I decided to change the situation, which I will tell about in this article.

How not to do

First of all, I want to start my story with what I saw wrong in the bathrooms of different apartments that I happened to visit. So, if you want to scare guests away, and also think you deserve a daily penance in the form of visiting the “sadness and sorrow” room, then here are 7 excellent ways to achieve this:

Method number 1: light monotony

It is well known that light colors visually enlarge the space. And it seems that here it is - a solution for small bathrooms! But in practice, it turns out that a small toilet in this case becomes completely uncomfortable, flat and lifeless, reminiscent of hospital wards. Dilution of such uniformity will revive the interior, make it more friendly.

An exceptionally black toilet should also not be done, since in addition to the problems described, it will also “squeeze” the room.

Method number 2: excessive contrast

To make one half of a tiny room, for example, light green, and the other half pink, means to give yourself a migraine or at least a feeling of anxiety during his visit. This approach only works in large rooms., although even there the combination of contrasts should be approached very carefully.

It would be much more correct to use dosed inserts or borders to destroy boring uniformity, which I will dwell on in more detail when I describe the repair made by myself.

Method number 3: dark ceiling

Stretch ceiling? Great, perfect solution. Spot LED lights? I have installed the same ones. Black color? Why ruin everything? A noticeable deviation from the walls in the color spectrum towards darkening leads to the fact that the room immediately begins to be perceived lower than it really is, causing a feeling of impending danger. In this case, you don’t want to linger on the toilet for a long time.

Method number 4: an overabundance of drawings

There are two options here:

  1. The use of large images that visually approximate the base on which they are applied, thereby, as it were, making the room smaller. This method can make a spacious living room cozier, but to achieve a similar effect with a toilet, I do not know what size it should be;
  2. Application of many small patterns. If large objects narrow space, then it is logical to assume that small objects, on the contrary, expand it. But here, again, you need to remember the area of \u200b\u200bthe bathroom: all such drawings will be right in front of you, creating unpleasant ripples. Although I must note that everything is not so simple here and sometimes it turns out to pick up a winning combination.

In general, it is better to leave intricate ornaments for rooms with suitable sizes.. If you really really want to decorate the “thinking room” in this way, then hang a panel in it, I even saw a self-portrait behind the toilet in one house, which, of course, is not for everyone, but it is quite acceptable from a design point of view.

Method number 5: "throne" in the center

The standard layout involves installing a toilet in the middle of the wall farthest from the door, which is why two unused areas are formed on its sides. Of course, you can put a brush or something else incredibly “important” there, but it’s better to try rearranging the entire structure to the side or even into a corner, and you will be pleasantly surprised by the free space that has appeared and the opportunities it provides.

Method number 6: fur and textiles

Soft fur rugs and pretty fabric covers decorate the bathroom so wonderfully, especially in the photographs. In the process of operation, they very quickly lose their external beauty, and also carry additional problems:

  • Turn cleaning into the most difficult action for cleaning such delicate materials;
  • Violate basic hygiene rules, as they are an excellent environment for the accumulation and reproduction of pathogenic bacteria.

Method number 7: a huge amount of accessories

Place a bookcase, artificial or fresh flowers in vases, cleaning products and a variety of other small items around the toilet to feel like a participant in the Fort Boyard show every time you visit the toilet. If you are still going to use the bathroom for its intended purpose, then all accessories must be strictly dosed, adhering to minimalism.

How can you do

So, now I will describe to you my own approach to decorating the toilet. It is not necessary to do everything exactly, but it is worth following the general course of action if you want to turn your small bathroom into a convenient and pleasant place for “thinking”, which your family members and guests will appreciate.

Step number 1: the choice of finishing materials

The bathroom puts forward its own requirements for decoration, among which in the first place:

Requirement Comments
hygiene Remember that we are talking about a sanitary zone, which means that the walls, floor and ceiling should not contribute to the accumulation of any dirt.
Ease of maintenance Based on the previous paragraph, we can make an absolutely correct conclusion that the room needs frequent and thorough cleaning, and finishing materials should not interfere with this.
moisture resistance Most of the cleaning will be done in a wet way, and the toilet itself is a rather damp room, so this factor should also be taken into account.
Resistance to household chemicals In the bathroom, it is necessary to carry out periodic disinfection, and the finish must be ready to endure such harsh treatment.

Based on these requirements, I made the following decisions:

  1. Floor. Lined with ceramic tiles. It fits perfectly on all counts and has an incredibly wide range of shapes and colors. I immediately discarded the boards because of their infamous hydrophobicity. But as an alternative, I also considered a filler floor, which also has high performance characteristics, but I preferred not to “spray” and focus on one material for both the floor and the walls;

  1. Walls. Here I, as already noted in the previous paragraph, also chose ceramics. But there are reasons why this option may not suit you, so think carefully about it:
    • Fairly high price. If it doesn’t work out much with the floor, then much cheaper washable wallpaper or waterproof paint can be used here, although, of course, they are noticeably inferior in practicality;

    • Reduction of usable space. Tiles need an absolutely even and smooth base, and rarely do walls adequately meet these requirements. As a result, they have to be pre-aligned, which can “eat” a few precious centimeters on each side, and this is quite noticeable for a small bathroom;

    • The complexity of the installation. Tiling work on your own is much more difficult than, for example, painting a wall or wallpapering;

If you doubt your abilities, then it is better to invite a professional tiler to perform finishing work. The cost of his services will cost you less than the damaged interior.

  1. Ceiling. Sheathed with plastic. It's easy to keep clean and does an excellent job of hiding any bumps and electrical wiring that plaster or paint can't. A stretch ceiling can also be a good option, which will also provide protection from flooding from above, but it will cost more and require the participation of specialists during installation.

Step number 2: masking communications

In my bathroom, pipes, meters and valves are placed at the wall opposite the door, which previously did not create the best visual impression, or rather just terrible. Therefore I I decided to sew them up by analogy with the ceiling with plastic, fortunately, among the colossal variety of PVC panels, it was easy to find models suitable for the tiles of the rest of the interior.

Be sure not to forget to mount an inspection door in the installed partition to allow access to taps and meters, as well as to monitor the condition of the pipeline.

If in your toilet, for example, there is only one pipe in the corner, then you can limit yourself to a box in order to save free space:

Step number 3: compact placement of plumbing

What before the changes was located in the “thought room” of my apartment? This is:

  • The toilet itself
  • Toilet paper holder, which, by the way, can have an interesting and unusual shape;

  • Stand for brush.

But if move the toilet a little to the side or even into a corner, then a free space will “magically” appear where you can install a small one and a mirror:

Thus, the bathroom begins to look not only more comfortable and attractive, but also increases its functionality. After all, now in order to wash your hands and put yourself in order, you do not need to go to the bathroom. And due to the reflection effect that has appeared, you can also safely talk about the visual expansion of the room.

An interesting addition can be a hygienic shower, which takes up very little space, but will make personal care even more comfortable.

Step 4: Arranging Lighting

The former solitary lamp located above the door was mercilessly removed by me, since the twilight it induced always had a somewhat depressing effect on me. Instead, I made four holes in the plastic ceiling and mounted LED spotlights in them, connecting to the network. As a result, the toilet received abundant, but at the same time not cutting eyes lighting.

I also recommend installing a motion sensor instead of a classic switch. This will not only make visiting the bathroom more comfortable, but also eliminate cases where the light accidentally stays on, “winding” the meter in vain.

It is better to refuse sconces, wall lamps and chandeliers, as they “steal” a small space with themselves, and also hang unpleasantly, causing conflicting feelings in the process of “thinking”.

Step #5: color schemes

The choice of color is a very important point in decorating. It’s not worth making the design monotonous, as I already wrote about, it’s best to choose some kind of cold shade that visually “pulls apart” the walls, and dilute it with bright inserts, thereby making the interior more welcoming.

Although many prefer classic monochrome, when the bottom is dark and the top is light, which also looks good:

By the way, it is very convenient to choose a color according to Feng Shui, since here the Chinese philosophy is almost completely in solidarity with the advice of modern designers:

As you can see, for example, a golden toilet will look pretentious and will not give you the opportunity to relax, but interspersing such a color scheme into the finish or its predominance on accessories will look quite organic.

Although black is considered unfavorable, and white should not take up much space, in combination they can create a good composition:

Step number 6: visual increase in space

In addition to choosing color combinations, you can successfully apply more several methods of visual expansion of the area small toilet:

  1. During the tiling process, you can create accent areas with mosaics, colored glass or pebbles. They will serve as a kind of beacons for the eyes, due to which the distance between them will seem greater;
  2. Some areas can decorate with vinyl stickers for the same purpose as indicated in the first paragraph;
  3. If a large mirror does not fit in your toilet even after rearranging the toilet, then you can install several mirror tiles that will create the necessary “falling into the depths” effect;
  4. Set the shelf up so that the necessary accessories are conveniently located on it, without taking up space next to the toilet.

Step 7: Finishing touches

How to decorate a toilet with additional elements? Care should be taken here so as not to overload a small room. both visually and operationally. To do this, I want to consider some commonly used tricks:

  • Flowerpot with a plant. You may have previously done gymnastics professionally and now you can easily maneuver around such an obstacle while visiting the bathroom, but your guests may not have such useful skills, and just imagine the embarrassment that will happen if one of them accidentally fills up your jewelry in the most important moment. Have indulgence;

  • A small painting behind the "throne" or on the side wall. Why not? Especially if your overall interior is too monotonous, then a colorful panel will dilute it favorably;

  • A toilet paper holder and a brush with a stand in the same style are a great stylistic move, to which you can also add a towel holder.

  • Shelf above the drain tank. I’m not sure about the advisability of such a decision, since it threatens to turn the bathroom into a utility room.

Conclusion

Do not neglect the interior of the toilet, considering this room unworthy of your close attention. After all, you, as a rule, even start the day with it. Also, don't forget about the guests. Most likely, they will not get into the bedroom, but they will definitely go into the bathroom and appreciate all its pluses and minuses.

So familiarize yourself with what you can’t do and what you can, and then put things in order in the “thinking room” of your apartment or house.

The video in this article will give you the opportunity to join additional information related to the materials presented. If you have any questions on the topic, ask them in the comments.

Toilet design: how to make repairs?

Any changes in the design of rooms begin with renovations and the toilet is no exception. If we are talking about a major overhaul, you should prepare for a laborious, lengthy process, even despite the modest dimensions of the room. Conventionally, the overhaul is divided into the following stages:

  • dismantling of old finishes and plumbing;

  • wall alignment;
  • leveling and raising the floor;

  • door replacement;
  • installation of communications and new plumbing;

  • installation of a niche for hiding water filters;
  • if necessary, installation of cabinets or shelves;

  • finishing of walls, ceiling and floor;

  • installation of accessories and lighting fixtures.

Many simply do not understand how to properly plan a toilet room, since placing a water heater and a toilet in such a small room is already considered a victory. But with the right approach, this room can become ergonomic and functional. The video below shows in detail how small toilets are repaired:

As practice shows, most owners prefer ceramic tiles as a finishing material. This is the most versatile solution, since the tile meets all the requirements for this room:
  1. Resistant to high humidity.
  2. Easy and unpretentious cleaning.
  3. For a long time retains its appearance.

However, this does not mean that there are no other options for finishing toilets that are also beautiful and practical.

Finishing and design options for the toilet room. A photo

First of all, you should consider the features of the visual correction of narrow, low, small and disproportionate toilet rooms. The main tool in this case is the selected color. Shades of a cool and light spectrum can visually expand almost any room. And this rule should not be neglected.

Tip: when the toilet is small, light shades should be used for interior decoration, such as white, silver, lemon, blue, light purple or pink, etc.

Bright and dark colors are suitable for large spacious rooms, but in the case of a small bathroom, you need to be careful. On many thematic Internet resources and in fashion magazines offering various interior design options, you can see photo examples of toilet rooms decorated in bold, “flashy” styles using red, black, burgundy or orange tones. Seeing such solutions, you should pay attention to the size of the rooms: most likely they are much more spacious and larger than yours.

Actually, a spacious toilet can only be in a few cases: if it is combined with a bathroom, or if such parameters were already defined in the project, and we are most likely talking about a private house, not an apartment. The owners of living space in high-rise buildings are forced to face a problem - a cramped toilet room.

Another important aspect in the design is the correct choice of pattern. For normal perception of a large panel or wall design with large ornaments, it requires a certain distance. And in most cases, there is simply no such distance, so it is better to immediately abandon attempts to decorate the interior with portraits, landscapes or bouquets of flowers.

Toilet design (photo): tiles, plastic panels and wallpaper

As mentioned above, tiles are one of the most versatile finishing materials. And if it is already clear with the pattern and shade, then it remains to deal with geometric shapes, location options, combinations and sizes. The most relevant ideas for decorating a toilet room:

  1. If the room is rather narrow, a rectangular tile should be laid on the floor so that the elongated side of the tile is placed along the short wall.
  1. When the ceiling is low in the room, and the width is quite acceptable, vertical inserts of patterned or contrasting tiles can be placed on the walls.
  1. If tightness and narrowness are combined with high ceilings, you can correct the situation with the help of borders made of tiles in the middle of the height of the wall. At the same time, the upper part should be light, and the lower part should be dark or bright.

  1. The most versatile technique for optimizing a small space in a washroom is to lay tiles diagonally across the floor and walls. However, this technique requires a fairly large supply of material.

Toilet tiles can be made in different sizes, but keep in mind that too small or, on the contrary, very large tiles in small interiors look disharmonious. For this reason, large floor tiles and mosaics should be used with caution.

Wallpaper is the most logical and simple answer to the question of decorating a toilet room at minimal cost. To repair such premises, you need to choose moisture-resistant wallpaper. In the hardware store on the roll there is a corresponding marking.

Moisture-resistant wallpapers include non-woven or vinyl sheets, as well as liquid wallpapers that are not glued, but are applied to the walls with a roller and, after hardening, are covered with a water-repellent substance. The photo below shows the toilets trimmed with wallpaper.

Plastic panels also meet the moisture resistance requirements. They easily tolerate wet cleaning and do not lose their presentable appearance over time. However, in the process of repairing walls, their use requires the installation of a crate, which leads to a decrease in area. Therefore, such material is recommended to be used only if there is enough space in the toilet room.

Toilet design: shelves, cabinets, furniture and accessories

Aesthetically attractive restrooms are made up of several elements, which include not only high-quality sanitary ware, but also a stylish interior. Harmonious design is impossible without spacious and comfortable cabinets, mirrors, shelves and other useful accessories.

Such facilities are often provided in public institutions. But even in apartments, you can create a comfortable beautiful toilet room with shelves for storing household chemicals, air fresheners, napkins and other attributes. The following video demonstrates how to design a small but functional toilet:

There are even more stylish and elegant interior design options when cabinets are made completely hidden, for example, behind wall decoration. At first, you can not even pay attention to it, since the whole interior looks exceptionally neat and holistic.

It is also very important to choose suitable accessories for the design of the toilet: a brush, a toilet paper holder, towel hooks, a toothbrush holder and a soap dish (if there is a washbasin).

Unusual design of the toilet room: decor, lighting and decoupage

It is not always easy to create a unique individuality of the toilet room. For example, you can use items made by yourself. Any materials can be used: shells, dried plants, magazine clippings, beautiful pictures, photographs, paints, etc. All this is useful for decoupage decor.

Properly selected lighting plays an important role in the design of any design. Original, stylish and well-placed lamps can visually expand a cramped room, harmonize it or accentuate a specific part of the room.

Style decision

Even before the start of repair work, you need to think about choosing the style of the toilet room. Even in such a room, modest in size, a similar question is relevant. If you arrange everything in a certain style concept, a good result is guaranteed.

For example, a Provence style design will look great both in private wooden houses and in modern apartments where all the furniture elements speak of the refined and romantic taste of their owners. For energetic and active natures who prefer conciseness and functionality, Japanese minimalism or strict high-tech is suitable.

Professional answers to frequently asked questions about bathroom design and decoration

  1. How to properly equip a toilet if its area is 1x1.5 m with a ledge?

The main goal of any small room design is to make the most of the available space. The toilet bowl is best to choose a compact, preferably hanging. Additional space savings can be achieved if the cistern is partially built into the wall.

In rooms with an area of 2 m 2, a small washbasin can also fit (it is rational to use a corner model located on a wall with a ledge). Above it, you can place a compact towel holder with a mirrored facade (visually gives more volume to the facade).

For wall cladding, it is best to use glossy tiles, always in light colors. In the event that the walls are snow-white, you will need to dilute them with bright, but discreet elements. Otherwise, the room will seem faded.

  1. What should be considered when renovating a bathroom?

Very often, apartment owners, when carrying out repairs in the toilet, forget or illiterately organize access to water supply taps, meters, sockets, etc. The meters can be placed on any segment of the cut, but at such a height from which it will be convenient to take indicators.

Similarly, it is necessary to consider the location of the shut-off valves. It is much more convenient when they are not under the drain barrel, but above it. Most often, valves and meters for shutting off water are placed on the wall behind the toilet. For this reason, it is important to organize free access to them by mounting special doors. A great idea is to close this wall with a roller shutter, which will make it easy to get to the nodes in case of a sudden breakdown.

  1. What style to choose for a small toilet?

A small bathroom is best for making a large number of different accessories and accessories. The following are considered the most optimal style decisions:

  • minimalism - a simple compact shape of the sink and toilet bowl, calm colors (2-3 shades), one lamp and a small mirror;

  • classic - pleasant pastel colors, streamlined plumbing, elegant door handle, paper holder, faucet from the decor;

  • eco - light warm colors, natural materials (wood, stone).
  1. Which tile to choose for a modern toilet design?

The popularity of using tile in the toilet is due to the same principles due to which it is used in the bathroom or in the kitchen - high humidity. But besides this, the tile allows you to find convenient solutions for styling, as there are many options on the market that differ in size, shape, color and texture. With heavy loads on the floor, porcelain stoneware should be considered as a finishing material.

When choosing tiles for your bathroom, remember the following:
  • wall tiles are not suitable for flooring, as they can deform or crack under load;
  • floor tiles are not suitable for wall decoration, as they are heavy and fall off easily;

  • when buying tiled material for lining the toilet room, you need to additionally buy a stock of 10-15%.
  1. Interior design of a compact toilet room: what to look for?

Compared to a spacious bathroom, a competent interior in a small toilet is much more difficult to achieve. Well-chosen finishing materials will allow you to complete the room so that it looks more attractive. The best option is to finish in several tones of the same color. Thus, it will be possible to achieve a visual expansion of space.

The interior of the toilet room in small sizes will turn out to be more aesthetic if all communications and pipes are hidden. Lightweight structures are used to disguise them, which can be easily disassembled in the event of an emergency.

Not the last role in a limited space is played by competent lighting. In this room, it is best to install one lamp in the center of the ceiling or several small ones around the perimeter.

  1. Is it possible to use photo wallpaper to decorate the walls of the toilet room?

A modern universal option for decorating a room to create a unique and original design is considered to be gluing photo wallpapers. Due to high technology, you can depict anything on photo wallpapers, from a beautiful landscape to a photograph. The design of such a wall covering is selected based on the area of \u200b\u200bthe room. If the toilet room is large, it can be decorated with a city panorama or a colorful pattern, but for a compact room, you should choose wallpapers that will visually enlarge the space.

If the canvas will be placed behind the toilet, you should choose a vertical composition (flowers, abstraction, anything but stripes). Floral theme will make the room more fresh and close to nature. An image with a perspective (a road going into the distance or a view from a balcony) will create some kind of illusion of an increase in area.

  1. How to make a budget toilet design?

The most practical and affordable option for finishing the toilet room is the use of plastic panels. Its advantages are the following:

  • easy and quick installation, since there is no need to level the walls;
  • low cost;
  • practicality (easy cleaning);
  • durability and strength;
  • moisture resistance.

When choosing plastic panels, you need to pay attention to the number of stiffeners - the more there are, the stronger the material will be. Suitable sheet thickness is 8 mm. It is best to purchase panels from the same batch so that their pattern matches the same intensity. You can learn about the correct sequence for finishing the toilet with plastic panels from this video:

  1. How to increase the functionality of the toilet room?

In order to create not only a beautiful, but also a functional toilet, it must be supplemented with various accessories. Narrow small shelves will take up little space on the wall and will allow you to place household chemicals, air freshener, beauty products, towels, toilet paper and more. Also a good option for shelves fixed asymmetrically on opposite walls.

In rooms with an average area, a small locker can fit. Furniture stores are unlikely to find a suitable option, so most likely you will have to use the services of carpenters. The design itself can be either closed or open. It is also important that plumbing, furniture and decoration are made in the same style.

  1. Is it possible to dismantle an old toilet in a day and lay a tile?

All repairs are carried out according to a well-defined technology, which takes some time. Dismantling the old toilet, breaking it, will take no more than 10 minutes. If you need to remove the whole - about half an hour. And then everything will depend on the quality of the old subfloor. Laying tiles in the case of an even screed will take about three hours (depending on volume and complexity). The drying time is always indicated on the packaging and is normally four days. Until this happens, there can be no talk of grouting and installing a new toilet bowl.

You can speed up this process if you buy quick-drying tile adhesive. It dries completely after 6 hours, but there is one minus - an expensive price.

  1. In what sequence are the plastic panels correctly attached?

When performing repairs in the toilet room, many people prefer to finish the walls and ceiling with plastic panels. And at this stage, most make mistakes when building a frame. It can be built from:

  • metal;

  • tree;

In the bathroom, it is advisable to mount a metal or plastic crate, as mold and fungus can form under the wooden one. The profile is fixed with self-tapping screws to the wall in increments of 40-50 cm. In the event that the panels are arranged vertically, the crate is built in a horizontal direction. A starting U-shaped profile is mounted on the floor and ceiling.

The installation of PVC panels starts from the corner of the room, by inserting the mounting shelf into the starting profile. Then the material is attached to the crate using a construction stapler. The next panel fits into the groove of the previous one. Using the same technology, sheathing is carried out around the entire perimeter. To connect parts in the corners, special corners are used. At the end, the joints near the windows and the doorway are sealed with sealant and hidden with decorative strips.

  1. Is it possible to arrange a toilet room on my own?

Finishing a toilet in a private house or apartment with your own hands is complicated by the fact that you need to correctly install and connect plumbing. If there is no experience in such matters, it is better to turn to professionals.

Wall, floor and ceiling decoration can be done without too much help. To do this, you will need to familiarize yourself with the installation technology of some finishing materials, tools and materials. The level of complexity of the repair depends on the finishing material. The most time-consuming is the laying of tiles. Given that it is quite expensive and fragile, it should be handled with extreme care.

As you can see, the stylistic decision of the design of the toilet largely depends on the dimensions of the room, since not all colors or other finishes are suitable for small rooms. The most important thing is to approach this issue correctly and seriously.

Modern man strives to ensure that his home was aesthetically attractive. This applies to every room, including a loggia, a closet and even a toilet. In this article, we will look at the nuances of creating an atmosphere of comfort in a small toilet, where there is only enough space to install the necessary plumbing.

Toilet Project Options

The aesthetic perception of space depends on many factors. The key one is design. It allows you to fully imagine how the interior will look like, what materials will be needed for work, in what quantity. It also allows you to more accurately choose the color scheme, the size of plumbing. Thanks to him, it is easier to decide on the lining selected for the floor, walls and ceiling.

The design of a small bathroom has its own characteristics. As a rule, such bathrooms are typical for apartments in old-style panel and brick houses. For example, these are “Khrushchev” buildings with an extremely uncomfortable layout and sometimes awkward protrusions in a tiny space that do not carry a sensible functional load. The doorways in such apartments are narrow, which adds to the inconvenience when entering a very small toilet. The finishing touch is the strange-looking sills.

Projects can be different (only with a toilet bowl, a toilet bowl and a sink, a full set of plumbing), it depends on the footage of the room itself, the type of toilet bowl, the method of its attachment. In one case, this will be fixing to the floor, which will not allow you to move the toilet close to the wall due to the installation of a cistern. In another, you will have to mount the flush system into the wall, which looks more aesthetically pleasing, but requires more work, including masking and finishing the box.

The project may include the presence of a mirror texture, finishing one of the walls in order to divert attention from the shortcomings of the perspective of the room.

In a small space, you have to bet on functionality. That is why walls are often used here, using them to save space.

For example, they choose a suspended toilet model with hidden communications.

In order to save space above the toilet, they often create a niche in which they hide the necessary cleaning and disinfecting products. The toilet paper holder is positioned so that it does not interfere with users. The door is selected so that it opens without obstacles. Finishing materials should not be slippery to exclude the possibility of injury.

At the same time, depending on the shape of the room and the location of the door, the toilet bowl can be located both opposite the entrance and to the side of it. If the room is rectangular, a small bathtub can also be located opposite the door, and the toilet can be on the side of it. Also, a bathtub can be located on one side, a toilet bowl on the other, and a sink between them.

Sometimes there is only enough space for a toilet and a compact sink. In this case, the location of the plumbing may also vary. For example, the sink can be located on the side of the toilet on one wall or on two adjacent ones. The toilet can also be located behind the sink. The latter can be both traditional and built into the wall without visible communications.

If the room is very small, the project may include combining a bathroom and a toilet. The demolition of the wall in this case can be complete or partial.

This design needs to be coordinated with the established regulations. Once approved, the repair work will begin.

The arrangement of furniture in this case may be different, which will depend on the chosen design, user needs, customer preferences. For example, in one case, the sink is completely removed, although it is difficult to call this solution successful in terms of hygiene, because brushing your teeth over the bathroom is not the best idea. In another, the location of the bath varies. It can stand both opposite the front door and along the wall, adjacent to the wall with the doorway.

Suitable colors

Despite the fact that the color schemes in the design of the toilet can be very diverse, they are far from always successful. And the situation can be both in the perception of space with the dominance of a certain color, and in an unsuccessful selection of a color combination. To prevent this from happening, it is worth considering a few nuances.

  • A small space needs visual expansion. This cannot be achieved using dark tones that delineate the boundaries of the room.
  • In a limited room, you can not use many tones, this creates a visual ripple and makes the interior gaudy, contrary to the principles of style.
  • A stylish project needs a maximum of three colors, one of which will be the dominant or background, the other will be its contrast, the third will be the connector of two tones.
  • The walls must be visually moved apart, in view of which the basis should be a light color. It will unload the negative atmosphere that is created in a tiny space.
  • In the selected colors withstand all the elements of the arrangement. There is no need to enter something into the interior composition that will stand out from the general background.

In a small toilet, white color should be present. It is he who should be taken as the basis when choosing a tone for the ceiling. Walls can be white, even if only partially.

White goes well with all the tones of the color palette. It takes on their emotional coloring, is a softener and expander of space. Whatever color it is combined with, the contrast will be harmonious. For example, the best companions for him can be blue, green, pistachio, blue, coffee. It goes well with gray and brown.

Perfectly combines white with woody tones, today this solution is considered one of the most popular. In addition, with the right approach to color, it can be combined with black, which will create an interior in neutral tones.

However, the amount of black in this case is dosed so that it does not change the perception from expressiveness to negative.

Among other tones, when choosing a color scheme, you should look at combinations of white with lavender, purple-burgundy, orange and asphalt, blue and brown (sand, chocolate). When choosing a color, sometimes the decisive factor is, for example, the print of the wallpaper. For example, it can successfully combine red, gray-blue and white. It won't compete with the main background, if white or light gray is chosen as the basis for the design.

It is undesirable to resort to negative contrasts, for example, combinations of red and black, green and acid orange, woody and poisonous red. Everything must have a sense of taste.

If it is difficult to decide on the choice of harmonious contrast, you can use the color wheel. It will help you choose the best solution.

Choosing any color for decorating the interior of the toilet, It is impossible not to take into account the background design of the dwelling itself. Of course, no one says that the color in all rooms should be identical. But its radical change can change perception from harmonious to negative. For example, when the interior of an apartment or house is made in neutral colors (combined white with gray, black), a poisonous red or red-gray version of the background solution will not fit into the design concept.

Gilding in a small space looks heavy, which is why it has to be dosed, reducing the ornate finish. Chrome will look quite harmoniously with white (for example, in the finishing of fittings, toilet paper holder, etc.). You should not combine green or blue with yellow, red with orange and brown. Gray-mint with silver and white, beige with gray and white, chocolate with white and milk are perfectly combined. Choosing the right combination take into account the temperature of tones: it should be similar.

Style decisions

The choice of style is a key criterion for creating the right atmosphere in the room. In addition, it is the style of the interior that largely determines the relevance of each element. The smaller the space, the simpler its design. This rule also applies to the toilet: if the area is barely enough for the toilet and rug, every effort must be made to create visual space. And in this case, you have to resort to style minimalism.

It consists in using simple textures, a minimum of prints, using elements in the arrangement with an emphasis on functionality. This is a simple model of a toilet bowl, laconic wall and floor cladding, a ceiling without decor. The decoration of such an interior will be the used tones, textures and lighting. If you try to decorate a small space, it will lose status and expressiveness. Even spot lighting will look better here than inappropriate gold fittings.

When choosing modern branches of stylistics(for example, art deco, brutalism, modern) are based on the modernity of textures and the manufacturability of each element of the arrangement. It is necessary glossy type of cladding that can visually expand the walls and raise the ceiling.

At the same time, the walls can be made of different materials, which can play with the presence of a niche and create a practical solution to simplify the cleaning of the toilet.

Loft is a good choice of style for a small toilet in a city apartment. Despite the fact that the traditional resources of the interior style are not the lightest colors, it is quite possible to create a harmonious solution with a brutal design. This is a white toilet bowl, a deliberately rough finish of the wall under the concrete or an insert under the brick.

Finishing

Finishing materials for the floor, walls and ceiling of the toilet room can be very diverse.

Floor

Toilet flooring can be tiles, porcelain stoneware, laminate, linoleum and self-leveling floor. Each type of material has its own characteristics and performance characteristics. For example, the easiest way is to lay linoleum in the toilet, it will not take much time and effort. It is more difficult to lay out tiles or porcelain tiles, because this lining will have to be leveled and trimmed.

This is best done by a professional tiler. The self-leveling floor is nothing more than a self-leveling type of coating that looks like a glossy floor, can have any pattern and color.

To lay a laminate, you will have to turn to the master, because without experience it will not work on your own.

Walls

Today, it is customary to use tiles and panels for lining the walls of the toilet. Ceramic tiles can be the most diverse in both color and shape. However, in conditions of limited space, designers recommend not resorting to complex layouts. It is undesirable to use complex geometric shapes for finishing (for example, in the form of honeycombs or polygons).

If you want to create a stylish interior, you will have to take into account the type of print. For example, on the walls of the toilet it will be more interesting to look at a single-colored tile of a small size like a brick, rather than a large tile with large flowers or monograms. At the same time, you can use a narrow border, but with the correct pattern.

Prints with a 3D effect and complex geometric compositions are excluded. They will irritate the eyes, while a relaxing atmosphere is needed in the toilet.

However, you can bet on the layout of the tiles: with a simple form of dies without a pattern, diagonal laying will look very appropriate. In fact, the print will be formed due to the grouting material, through which the tile joints are filled. If you want something special, you can use to wall panels. This material is able to imitate the texture of ceramics, marble, brick and other raw materials. However, drawing in a small room does not have to be difficult.

Ceiling

The ceiling in a small bathroom can be lined with different materials. If you don’t want to mess with it, you can paint it, glue it with tiles or panels. In addition, you can arrange it stretch film, which is not afraid of moisture and fumes, resistant to dampness and fungus. Wherein it is better to choose a monochromatic version without excessive reflectivity, because the reflection will visually double the number of pieces of furniture, creating a subconscious feeling of disorder in the toilet.

If you do not like the film, you can sheathe the ceiling with drywall or plastic panels. Drywall perfectly masks the unevenness of the ceiling, its curvature and different heights of the walls.

Ceiling panels they can imitate any texture, they are lighter and thinner than wall counterparts, they allow you to create a design for stone, wood, painted board and other materials. Depending on the size of the room, the combined bathroom can be decorated small false beams.

Furniture and plumbing

The amount of furniture chosen for arranging a small toilet depends on the available usable area and the space that should remain after placing everything you need. Of course, in a small space it will not be possible to put a wardrobe or chest of drawers. Often there is no place at all for something other than plumbing. Yes, and you have to choose the necessary items correctly.

For example, you can not put a rack with shelves behind the toilet, which are located on both sides of it. Do not forget about practicality and cleaning. The fact is that the “anti-splash” system does not always work effectively, and when flushing, water can fall on the shelves. Therefore, you will have to wash the contents of the shelves quite often and thoroughly.

The main elements of the arrangement will be a toilet, sink, mirror. The cabinet can be located both above the toilet and under the washbasin. If there is no space for a wall cabinet, you can get by with a couple of shelves, although closed drawers are considered more practical. They will not contain as much dust as is usually deposited on things.

A key element in the arrangement of the toilet room is the water heater. Usually it is placed above the toilet or at the top on one of the walls. In the absence of space for a shelf or a niche, you can equip a toilet mini shelving with narrow shelves for storage toilet paper and toilet cleaners.

When choosing furniture for a small toilet room, it is necessary to take into account that plumbing must be selected from a single collection with an identical design. The same applies to furniture elements: they must match the plumbing in design, shape and style.

For example, fittings with approximately the same design can combine furniture.

Sometimes the interior composition provides for the presence of a shelf for the entire length of the wall. The sink is mounted in this panel, the remaining space is used as a table or shelf for the necessary accessories. In a combined bathroom, furniture elements can be a chair for undressing or a shelf with hooks, a towel holder. As for the chair, its use is explained by the need when an elderly person lives in the house, who finds it difficult to undress while standing.

Lighting

Given the limited space, the choice of fixtures for decorating the toilet will have to be approached thoroughly. If the project is combined, in addition to central lighting, auxiliary lighting is used. Moreover, wall lamps can be located on both sides of a small mirror, above it, and sometimes behind the toilet bowl. In general, lighting is used medium-sized lamps of laconic form.

These can be panels (flat and rounded), spotlights with a directional light flux, sometimes spots, as well as LED Strip Light. The last type of lighting is considered the most rational: the tape takes up little space, provides for installation on walls and ceilings. Depending on the number of LEDs, it is able to illuminate the room partially or completely.

And if you choose the RGB class option for the arrangement, then the owners will be able to change the shade of the supplied light at will.

To choose the right fixtures, you need to consider their location, take into account compatibility with the finish, choose shades in accordance with the stylistic decision. Chandeliers, voluminous and bulky lamps are excluded. The size of the lighting device is selected based on the height of the ceiling and the area itself. In modern trends, these are often concise spotlights.

Decor

This is not to say that in a space with a limited area you can place a lot of accessories. However, if you approach this issue from a functional point of view, then you can decorate the interior of the toilet effectively and stylishly. If the design is concise, the facade of the niche can be decorated with a “self-adhesive” with a discreet print, characteristic of the chosen stylistic solution. So the niche will be disguised, and the interior will be more expressive.

Advice on the choice of furniture, plumbing and materials, the selection of colors and the design of toilets of various sizes. Material selection

When choosing a material for finishing a bathroom and toilet in an apartment, many homeowners prefer to purchase tile or ceramic tiles. For consumers who are unfamiliar with other materials that can decorate a room that constantly has high humidity, ceramics become the best way to protect the walls of the room from the appearance of fungus and mold.

The variety of colors and textures of ceramic tiles offered by manufacturers allows you to equip sanitary facilities in an original way by choosing the most appropriate design solution. When purchasing ceramic tiles for decoration, consumers motivate their choice with the attractive properties that tiles have:

  • moisture resistance;
  • provides ease of cleaning the room;
  • with long-term operation does not lose external attractiveness;
  • the possibility of creating an original design of the toilet room.

However, in addition to traditional ceramic tiles, the market for finishing building materials offers more modern options for finishing toilets and other wet areas, no less practical and attractive. Plastic panels look great on the walls of the bathroom and toilet. Many are attracted by their operational properties and beautiful appearance.

Unfortunately, not every apartment can use them. Since when installing plastic panels, wall battens are used for their fastening, the area of \u200b\u200bthe room will decrease, which is unacceptable for the already small space of the toilet and bathroom.

Unfortunately, there is no way to do without a crate. Although it smooths out the unevenness of the walls, the most important thing is that it eats up centimeters of an already small toilet room. And what always frightened me - what if mold starts growing behind the panels and you don’t see it and you will breathe it.

This problem can be avoided by decorating the bathroom with wallpaper. Now they produce a sufficient number of wallpapers that are resistant to high humidity. Rolls of such wallpaper are labeled accordingly. Most often, vinyl and non-woven wallpapers are purchased for finishing the bathroom and toilet.

Relatively recently, another finishing material appeared on sale, presented to consumers under the name "liquid wallpaper". When finishing the room, they are applied to the wall with a special roller, so it is difficult to call this material “wallpaper” in the full sense.

After the applied layer has dried, it is necessary to cover it on top with a solution that has water-repellent properties. Due to the ease of working with liquid wallpapers and the variety of their colors, they are quickly becoming popular.

tiling

The tile offers several interesting solutions for the creative design of the bathroom.

    Parameters that you can focus on when tiling walls:
  • tile shape;
  • placement of tiles on the wall;
  • color combination.

Rectangular tiles can be used to visually expand a narrow room. To do this, the long side along the short wall. The excessive height of the ceilings will be concealed by a tile border, which must be done at half the height. To enhance the effect, choose a toilet tile in two shades, place a brighter or darker color below the curb.

In the case of a low ceiling, visually add height by placing tiles vertically. Consider inserting a tile insert in a contrasting color or with a bright pattern.

An original solution for expanding the space of a small bathroom is to lay tiles diagonally. However, in this case, the consumption of tiles and the number of scraps received increase, which can hit the budget allotted for repairing a small toilet.

Tiles are available today in various sizes and shapes. For selection, the overall design should be taken into account in order to avoid the inharmonious design of a small bathroom when using too small or large tiles.

Selection of furniture and sanitary ware

Even if the toilet is very small, the owners want it to be comfortable and, as far as possible, cozy. To visually reduce the space, pay attention to the ergonomic wall-mounted design of the toilet. If the area allows and there is a desire, it is worth buying a compact sink. So that plumbing in a room of modest size is not too conspicuous, its color should match the color of the walls - the toilet will seem more spacious.

Pipes and sidings greatly impair the view, so take care to disguise them. One option: small doors that open access to pipes if necessary (for example, to repair them). It is better to think over these points and discuss with the master even before the start of repair work.

An excellent solution for masking pipes is the use of drywall boards. With their help, it will be possible to hide any designs and counters. In addition, it does not take much time and effort.

To make the toilets visually appear larger, you should prefer light-colored doors without patterns and patterns. Will help in the matter of "enlarging" the room and glass inserts in the material of the door.

A toilet design element familiar to the consumer in an apartment - a rug - is able to visually reduce the room, so it is better to do without it. So that bare feet do not freeze on cold tiles, which will make you feel more comfortable in the toilet. If you can’t imagine a toilet without a rug, get a plain one, without inscriptions, matching the color of the floor.

The use of chrome parts visually increases the space.

    It’s great if all the fittings are made in the same style:
  • sink faucet (if it could be placed);
  • a stand for a brush and its handle itself;
  • paper roll holder or dispenser;
  • button or lever on the drain tank;
  • door handles and more.

Properly selecting the components, it is possible to turn a small toilet into a stylish bathroom that looks much more spacious.

However, there are also reverse situations: what to do if the toilet room is too large? The best way out is to purchase a functional and stylish and toilet room, designed specifically for such premises. These are high cabinets for detergents, cabinets for toiletries or shelves for fragrances - the choice depends on the preferences of the apartment owners.

    Completing the creation of the image of the toilet, you should carefully approach the choice of fittings and accessories:
  • beautiful heated towel rails;
  • stylish soap dish;
  • convenient stand for toothbrushes;
  • functional toilet dispenser;
  • nice brush complete with stand, etc.

Of course, the furniture should be in harmony with the overall style of the room.

Lighting

Properly selected lighting in the toilet can transform the room and present its design in a winning color. At the same time, lighting errors will negate any creativity with the toilet, so you should follow the basic rules in the lighting design of the bathroom.

As in a living room, adequate lighting in the bathroom will provide a comfortable feeling, while low light will create an overwhelming atmosphere.

    When placing lamps, consider the dimensions of the room, the decoration used and the design elements.
  • Smaller bathrooms require brighter lighting to help avoid a depressing impression.
  • Subdued lighting is suitable for large toilets in new buildings.

In addition to a standard lamp, large sconces on the walls or spotlights on the ceiling or floor look good in the toilet.

Design nuances depending on the size

The repair plan depends on the size of the toilet in the apartment. Consider ideas for renovating a small toilet.

Toilet design 1.5 m2

Sometimes, when using simple items, without much effort, it is possible to arrange a unique and original design solution for the decor of the toilet. To create a cozy and beautiful bathroom in a small room, you do not need to overload the space with various vases, panels and souvenirs.

In recent years, ceramic tiles, marble and granite slabs have been the main finishing material. The interior of a small toilet can be visually expanded with the help of finishing materials, combining colors and arrangement of tiles to enhance the effect. It is equally important to choose the right compact or suspended sanitary ware.

Toilet design 2 m2

The main goal of a designer's work in rooms with limited space is to use it as efficiently as possible. The best option for installing a toilet bowl is a suspended structure with a built-in wall or protruding cistern. This will significantly reduce the volume occupied by plumbing.

A room with such an area allows you to accommodate a compact washbasin. For this, both corner and hanging sinks are suitable, next to which they place hooks for hanging towels and a small mirror that can visually add extra volume to a limited space.

Glossy tiles and light liquid wallpaper for the toilet are suitable for wall decoration. When choosing a completely white material, it should be diluted with bright elements, without which the modern design of a small toilet will come out faded and featureless.

Larger toilet design

They strive to give a large-sized bathroom the most attractive and modern look that combines practicality, convenience, comfort and durability.

The combined bathroom is able to accommodate more than one bath, but also, and a washing machine will harmoniously fit into the interior of the toilet. Appliances are located separately from cabinets, add-ons and cabinets, under the sink, or they implement a built-in version. The design of the bathroom and toilet is harmoniously complemented by various decoration elements - plates with a pattern, vases, photo frames, etc.

Some people are annoyed by the large space of the bathroom. In such cases, it is recommended to choose dark tones that can visually narrow the space. Empty spaces are filled with cabinets and cabinets.

Toilet with sink

Such design solutions are only suitable for small bathrooms. It is impossible to place a sufficient number of accessories and furniture there. But there are all the necessary components - a toilet with a sink, a mirror, small shelves for storing small items and towel holders.

Combined bathroom

It is among the most common options. When combining a toilet and a bathroom, one goal is pursued - the maximum possible use of the available space. Such solutions have different advantages and disadvantages, the main of which is the human factor, when the combined bathroom is located in an apartment with a large number of people living.
