Modern types and types of air conditioners. Types of split systems Functionality of air conditioners of any type

You can create comfortable conditions in your home or office on hot days with the help of a special one. It is only necessary to choose the appropriate model, based on the area of \u200b\u200bthe room and its purpose. We offer you to find out what a split system is and how it differs from.

Deciding to buy a split system or air conditioner, you should find out their main differences. They are both types of air conditioners. Their main differences include:

  • Design. Manufacturers offer a fairly large range of systems. You can always choose a model that can harmoniously fit into the interior. Air conditioners are most often a monotonous white block;
  • High technology. Modern models have wide functionality, including the possibility of remote control;
  • Noise. Despite the large range of conventional air conditioners, it is quite difficult to choose a model that creates a minimum of noise during operation. Split systems, due to their design features, create a minimum of noise during operation.

Advantages and disadvantages of split systems

Depending on the design, modern models may have different functionality. Possible presence:

  • remote control;
  • Filters providing varying degrees of ;
  • timer;
  • Indoor temperature control.

The remote control included in the system allows you to set the necessary parameters of the microclimate, which are controlled by the electronics of the indoor unit.

How to choose the right split air conditioning system for an apartment

There are a number of factors to consider when choosing the right model. To begin with, it is worth deciding on the type of indoor unit, depending on and free space. Must be taken into account.

A split air conditioning system for an apartment should, on average, have a power that is an order of magnitude less than its area. If the windows of the room face the sunny side, the resulting value must be multiplied by 1.1 ÷ 1.3. If the air conditioning equipment consists of several indoor units, you should make sure that the outdoor unit will be able to support it.

The manufacturer deserves special attention. Preference should be given to a proven trademark, under which high quality products are traditionally manufactured.

Attention! You should make sure that the allowable length of the route and the height difference given in the passport will allow you to correctly install the split system.

It is worth checking the maximum and minimum noise level declared by the manufacturers, created by the system during operation, as well as the temperature range at which the equipment will function properly.

If the cost of a split system is of fundamental importance, then you can reduce costs by choosing a device with an optimal set of functions. The fewer additional features, the cheaper it will cost.

What are inverter split systems?

This type of split system includes an inverter that allows you to change the frequency of the compressor by converting direct current to alternating current. Due to this, after the air temperature rises to the set value, the equipment does not turn off. This contributes to energy savings, which, depending on the model, can reach 39%.

It is worth buying an inverter split system for a bedroom or, since during operation they create a minimum of noise (about 20 dB). It is able to maintain its performance at negative temperatures, including at -20°C. The special design, the absence of a sudden start and unexpected installation allows for a longer service life of the device compared to other models of climate equipment. The price of an inverter split system is always higher than a conventional one.

Attention! The split system inverter allows you to maintain the temperature at a given level with a difference of no more than 0.5 ° C.

What are refrigeration split systems?

Special equipment designed to be installed inside the refrigerator compartment. Mounted in industrial plants. Allows you to automatically maintain the temperature in a given interval. It is a suitable solution for a wholesale depot, a warehouse dedicated to the storage of frozen foods.

The refrigeration split system includes an outdoor and indoor unit, interconnected by a special pipeline. Can work in a wide temperature range. Most models are operated in the temperature range from -25° to +10°С. There are no requirements for outside air temperature.

The main types of household split systems

The design design largely determines the installation procedure and operation features. Before purchasing a suitable device, it is worth familiarizing yourself with the available options and the features of their installation. Some manufacturers recommend installing split systems in rooms of a certain square. Let's take a look at the most common types.

wall

The most popular type, which allows you to effectively deal with cold or heat. Mounted in residential buildings and office buildings. Wall-mounted split systems are of high build quality. They allow you to effectively remove heat and cold.

ducted

Installation of the indoor unit of the channel split system is carried out in the inter-ceiling space behind the false ceiling. For this, a distance of 30 ÷ 40 cm is provided. For the intake and supply of air into the room, special ones are provided, placed at arbitrary points. Thanks to a special design, the indoor unit of the device draws air from the room and from the street (up to 25%).

Ceiling

The ceiling model can be mounted in rectangular rooms and allows you to process a small amount of air. Due to their special design, these units direct the air flow along the ceiling or wall, ensuring an even distribution of conditioned air throughout the room.

Multi split systems

The system may include several indoor units. Such devices are called multi-split systems. Their design allows you to connect several indoor units to one outdoor unit at once.

You can buy a multi-split system to create an optimal microclimate in several rooms of a residential building at once. Given that the number of external units is reduced, the aesthetics of the building does not suffer.

Attention! It is possible to connect indoor units of different types.

floor standing

Climatic equipment is characterized by high performance. Allows installation directly on the walls of the room, depending on the desired direction of the air flow. They have a higher cost and power compared to wall-mounted counterparts. Differ in wide functionality.

This technique performs its functions efficiently, and it can be installed without unnecessary difficulties. It will be easier to make the right choice after studying the materials in this article.

Cassette

The cassette model should be purchased for placing a large quadrature with a false ceiling. To accommodate the indoor unit of the system, an inter-ceiling space with a height of at least 25 cm is provided. People in the room see only a decorative grille.

Cassette split devices are capable of adding up to 10% fresh air. Air is taken from the room through the central grille of the indoor unit. Having passed the necessary stages of cleaning, the air flow through the blinds is distributed in the given directions.

Columned

Split systems of column type are intended for rooms of the big area. They can be mounted in rooms without false ceilings. Due to the special design, columnar models create a fairly strong air flow, directed first towards the ceiling, and then evenly distributed throughout the volume of the room.

Space heating with split systems

After the climate equipment is switched to heating mode, it starts to work according to the principle. The four-way valve included in the device ensures that the refrigerant is redirected in the opposite direction. This leads to the fact that the condenser and evaporator seem to change places: in the evaporator it passes into the liquid phase, and in the condenser it evaporates. As a result, freon, which is in a gaseous state, gives off cold to atmospheric air, and the heat generated during phase transformations returns to the room.

In order for the equipment to effectively cope with its tasks, the outside air temperature must be sufficient for the freon to boil. The colder it is outside, the more difficult it will be to generate heat. As a result, the performance of the equipment is reduced. Condensation forms on the heat exchanger of the outdoor unit. Oil freezes in the compressor crankcase, which increases the load at the time the system is started.

A special unit designed to heat the oil, as well as the use of a special refrigerant, allows to solve this problem.

Advice! When choosing equipment for your home, check the temperature recommended by the manufacturer.

Summer can be hot, or it can be stuffy and humid. In any case, you will need air conditioning. You should think about buying it back in April-May, while there is no general excitement. What are the types of air conditioners? Which air conditioner is right for you?

Do you think the answer to this question is obvious? This is true, but only at first glance.

1. Many modern air conditioners work not only in the direction of cooling, but also in the direction of air heating. So, they could safely be called radiators.

2. An unobvious advantage of modern air conditioners is air filtration.

3. Air conditioners lengthen your working time by eliminating temperature inconveniences (remember how hard it is to work in the heat!).

4. Air conditioners allow you to keep the collars and cuffs of light-colored shirts cleaner for longer (if your partner has a snow-white shirt collar, you can be sure that he has an excellent air conditioner in the office).

5. Finally, air conditioning is an indicator of a certain level of well-being of its owner. The light breeze that your guest feels causes a subconscious feeling of flight in him.

The invention of the air conditioner

In its modern form, air conditioning first appeared in 1902 in New York. It was developed by American engineer Willis Carrier in 1902. It was an industrial unit for temperature and humidity control in a Brooklyn printing house in New York.
However, the prerequisites for creating an air cooling system arose as early as 1754, when the Swiss Leonhard Euler, an honorary member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences, developed the fan theory.

air cooling principle

The air is cooled in the air conditioner by passing it through a circuit consisting of tubes filled with refrigerant gas (freon, ammonia, etc.). Moving through the tubes of the circuit, the refrigerant takes heat from them, and they, in turn, take heat from the air. The compressor is the heart of the air conditioner.

Influence on air humidity

Cooling the air, the tubes of the air conditioner circuit condense moisture on themselves. If you are not completely clear about this process, try turning on the cold water in your bathroom. Within a few seconds, the faucet will fog up, and later it will be covered with water droplets (dew) - this is how the moisture contained in the air of your home condenses. In modern air conditioners, condensed moisture is discharged through the drain pipe to the street, or with the help of a pump - to the sewer.

Some air conditioner vendors list this feature as an advantage. However, this is not always justified. Overdried air conditioner causes a headache; some indoor plants may die. This factor must be taken into account when buying and installing an air conditioner.

Air filtration

Many modern air conditioners filter the air. This feature is always useful, whatever your living conditions. Air conditioners have special filters, the number of which varies from model to model. Models with a large number of filters provide multi-stage air purification. Filtration protects not only your lungs, but the air conditioner itself from contamination.

Air conditioner noise

Different air conditioners produce different sound volumes during operation. The best models of air conditioners operate almost silently. When buying an air conditioner, be sure to check it for noise during operation. Your comfort in the future will partially depend on this: after all, it is difficult to talk with a noisy air conditioner. The noise makes the TV louder, which leads to a deterioration in relations with neighbors. Split system air conditioners can be considered the quietest (read more about split systems below). The noise level of indoor units of split systems does not exceed 30 dB (for comparison, a human whisper is 20 dB).

Air conditioner power: approximate calculation

You can make an approximate calculation of the required power of the future air conditioner yourself. For every 10 square meters, 1 kW of air conditioning power is required (with a ceiling height of 3 m). 100 watts should be added for each person living in an apartment or house. 200 W for frequently used household appliances. And at least 700 watts on any stove or oven. If the refrigerated room is on the sunny side, this also serves as a factor requiring an increase in the rated power of the air conditioner.
If the power of your air conditioner turns out to be insufficient, this will lead to two negative consequences: firstly, you will not get the expected comfort, and secondly, the air conditioner will work at its limit and will fail faster. Fortunately, the price of an air conditioner is not particularly dependent on its capacity.

Types of air conditioners

1. Split system

Recently, the so-called split air conditioning systems (from the English split - to separate) have become widespread. These are air conditioners of a separate type, some of which are mounted outside the building, and some - inside. The main working part, including the compressor, fan and heat exchanger, is left outside the housing. Only a presentable remote control unit is attached to the room. To connect the two parts, a through hole is made in the wall. Most of these systems are also suitable for space heating, but it is not recommended to use them in severe frosts (below 15 ° C).

Usually split systems do not provide air supply from the street. They clean and cool the interior atmosphere of the room. Air filtration systems in some models of air conditioners involve not only the removal of dust, but also the removal of odors, the destruction of bacteria, and even air ionization. However, for the supply of oxygen, the room should be periodically ventilated. Split system is the most convenient, economical and silent type of air conditioner.

Like most air conditioners, the operation of a split system is tied to the air temperature in the room. As soon as the air cools, the system automatically turns off. However, this principle cannot be called optimal. The fact is that at the time of switching on, the system consumes more energy, and frequent shutdowns and starts shorten the life of the air conditioner and put an additional load on the power grid. Therefore, in modern models and expensive models, the compressor does not stop, but only changes speed. This saves energy and prolongs the life of the air conditioner. Such models are called inverter. We recommend that you pay attention to them first of all.

All modern models of split systems are controlled by a remote control. Management involves setting the desired air temperature, switching the operating modes of the air conditioner, changing the direction of air flow. Some models are equipped with a preset timer that allows you to maintain the desired temperature in the absence of people (or before they arrive). A very useful feature is the operation of the air conditioner in the night mode. As you know, during the night the air temperature in the room decreases. Therefore, in the evening, the cooling of the air should be stronger than in the morning. This is exactly what the air conditioner with night mode provides. Thus, you protect yourself from hypothermia and sudden colds.

Multisplit system

Along with monosplit systems, there are multisplit systems. These are systems that also have one (but more powerful) external unit and several internal ones. Multisplit systems are designed for air conditioning large areas with many rooms and partitions. The cost of multisplits is significantly higher than monosplit systems.

The main disadvantage of split systems is their expensive and complicated installation. Its cost can reach up to 20-30% of the price of the system itself. However, such costs are fully justified in the future.

Types of indoor (room) blocks of split systems

Wall blocks. They are small in size, but are able to cool rooms up to 60 square meters. m. Wall units are equipped with mono- and multi-split systems, models with cooling only and models with heating, as well as inverter models. The average power of air conditioners with a wall-mounted unit is 1.5 - 7 kW. As a rule, wall blocks are made in a modern design and easily fit into any interior.

Floor and ceiling blocks. These indoor air conditioner units are fixed in one place (wall or ceiling) and cannot be moved. They are designed for large rooms and have a power of 7 - 15 kW. The design of floor-to-ceiling units is designed to make them as invisible as possible on the ceiling or floor. The main advantage of ceiling blocks, in addition to power, is that they practically do not take up space and do not interfere with anything. But on the other hand, they are inconvenient to wash and replace filters. In this aspect, floor blocks are much more convenient. Ceiling blocks, due to their power, are used mainly in working areas (in offices, beauty salons, canteens and cafes).

Cassette and channel blocks

These are real ventilation systems. Typically, these types of blocks are installed in office centers and large stores. From the outside, they look like ceiling ventilation grilles. As a rule, cassette-duct units are mounted together with suspended or decorative ceilings. The main feature is the ability to distribute air flows in several directions at once. And the duct blocks provide an influx of fresh air from the street. One channel block (precisely thanks to the distribution channels) can be enough to cool and ventilate the entire apartment or floor of the house. The power of air conditioners with a channel or cassette unit can vary from 4 to 17 kW.

2. Floor standing air conditioners

These air conditioners are a single floor mobile unit, including both the compressor and the cooling circuit, and curtains to direct the air flow. Hot air from such a monoblock is drawn out with a hose to the street. The length of the hose is usually 1.5 - 2 meters, the diameter is about 10 cm. To remove the hose, a hole is usually made in a window or balcony door. Sometimes the hose is connected to the ventilation hatch.

What is the advantage of such a system? She is extremely mobile. You can bring it to your dacha, use it in a rented apartment, and easily take it with you when you move. The modern design makes the block of such an air conditioner a stylish element of the interior (hi-tech). Monoblocks are equipped with a chassis - for ease of transportation. Some monoblocks also work as heaters. Such an air conditioner is controlled from the front panel of the case or via the remote control. The mobile monobloc can also filter the air - depending on the model.

The disadvantages of a monoblock include:

1. Increased noise (after all, the compressor is not located on the street, but directly in the room);

2. The need for manual removal of condensate (moisture that has settled on the pipes of the cooling circuit is not discharged into the street, but flows into a special pan).

There is also a combined version of a floor air conditioner - a mobile split system. Its compressor and fan are placed in a separate unit that can be placed on the balcony. And the indoor unit is installed in the room on the floor. This principle serves, first of all, to reduce the noise level of the operating air conditioner.

The total weight of monoblocks of both types varies in the range of 20 - 55 kg.
Average power: 2 - 6 kW.

3. Window air conditioners

This is, in fact, yesterday's day of conditioning. However, they are still in some demand. Therefore, even companies such as Mitsubishi, Panasonic and Fujitsu produce them. Window conditioners are mounted in a wooden frame of a window. To do this, part of the window is simply cut out. If the frame is double-leaf, then the second sash remains functional. Another way is to install the air conditioner in a hole in the wall (if any). In this case, two tasks are solved at once - cooling the room and masking the hole.

Most modern windows have a very presentable appearance and work quietly. They inherited two undeniable advantages from their bulky predecessors:

1. They can pump fresh air directly from the street (which allows you to remove unpleasant odors or tobacco smoke from the room);

2. Condensed moisture flows out without any problems.

Some models of windows also work for heating. However, they have a limitation on operation at low air temperatures outside the window: at -5-7 ° C, the window air conditioner may fail. The exception is White-Westinghouse window air conditioners, manufactured specifically for Canada and Russia. But energy saving in such models leaves much to be desired.

Modern models of window air conditioners are controlled by a remote control. Economy class models - manually. The air filtration function is available in most models, but it is far from perfect everywhere. The power of window air conditioners is usually from 2 to 6 kW.

Air conditioning is usually bought several years in advance. Therefore, when, you should be especially careful. We hope that our article has helped you better understand which air conditioner best suits your needs.

If you have any questions about choosing the type of air conditioner, how to install it, write in the comments and we will definitely try to help you!

Many of us use such equipment at home, but they hardly know what a high-quality split system is. What is it will help to learn more about our review. This design is not exactly an air conditioner, it has several differences. Split system produces air conditioning. How this happens and what types of technology exist, let's find out together.

Splits are an important element of any interior.

A powerful split system (what it is can be understood after familiarizing yourself with the device device) structurally includes two parts. The inner part is the evaporator element, and the outer part is the compressor and condenser. The external element is fixed on the facade of the building, and the internal element is fixed in the room itself. Internal elements may vary by location. Both blocks are connected using thin copper pipes. The compressor is the "heart" and the noisiest part of the system. That's why they take him out of the building.

The nuances of the split system air conditioner device

The principle of operation of the split system device is to bring warm air masses outside. Such equipment not only has a cooling effect, but also a heating one. Warming up is carried out in the reverse order. Freon evaporates in the outdoor element, and condensation occurs in the indoor unit.

The outer element is placed outside the space that is being cooled. It contains elements such as a capacitor, a compressor, a receiver, a control board, and a power switching relay. Installing the mechanism outdoors allows you to get rid of the sounds produced. The norm of possible noise in the apartment is 25 dB.

1-compressor; 2-way valve; 3-heat exchanger-condenser; 4-soundproofing; 5-fan; 6-casing; 7-output grating; 8-two-way valve; 9-way valve; 10-pallet; 11-drain pipe; 12-heat exchanger-evaporator; 13-tangential type fan; 14-lattice; 15 input filter; 16-directing blinds; 17-fold; 18-front panel; 19-LEDs; 20-temperature sensors; 21-control board; 22-circuit board; 23-remote.

The internal design works for cooling, heating and filtering air masses. Thin tubes connecting structural parts can be mounted in suspended installations, in special strobes or in laid cable channels.

Helpful information! Many of the latest models are complemented by such functions: filters for cleaning, special timers, an air ionization mechanism, and a device for maintaining the temperature.

Varieties of split air conditioning systems for an apartment

Now you know what a split system is: it is an air conditioning device that has several options. Let's look at the main types of the device.

wall equipment

Wall-mounted equipment can be represented by various design designs. Such devices are mounted on the outside of the wall. This option is especially convenient, since all bulky elements are taken out. This is currently the most common split option. Such models provide maximum output of heat and cold. They have such advantages:

  • excellent assembly;
  • pressure device lock;
  • compressor operating with drainage heating;
  • system of brake elements;
  • intelligent program that sets the optimum temperature.

Channel and ceiling models

Ceiling and floor split systems for heating and cold are used in rooms that have an oblong shape. Strong currents of air masses pass along the surfaces and are distributed throughout the space.

In the case of a channel device, the inner element is mounted behind a false ceiling. Under such an installation, about 36 cm of the interceiling area is allocated. Air is drawn out of the room and penetrates back through. The fourth part of the air coming inside is a fresh stream saturated with oxygen. Ceiling structures are used in small rooms.

Which option to choose for large rooms?

Cassette type devices are suitable for very large rooms where there are false ceilings. To install a full-fledged structure, there must be a space of at least 25 cm between the base ceiling and the decorative one. All internal mechanisms are placed behind the suspended structure. Only the decorative grille remains visible. The air passes through the grate, and then, after processing, passes through the blinds and spreads in four directions.

If there are no suspended structures, then a column-type device is suitable. Such units provide a powerful jet of air, which moves towards the ceiling, and then moves over the entire area. In such structures, about 10% of fresh air is provided.

Multi split system

It is important to take into account the characteristics of split systems of various types. For example, a multi-split design includes several indoor units. It is in demand for installation in several office premises, for residential buildings with several floors and for large stores. In this case, only one block is placed outside. This technique is more expensive than alternatives.

Setup and management

You can purchase a split system inverter. This mechanism allows you to convert direct current to alternating current. As a result, air conditioning can be carried out without interruption. The inverter allows you to smoothly adjust the operation of the unit. The device is equipped with many sensors and an additional microprocessor. During operation of such a device, the temperature regime is maintained constantly, since there is no shutdown during heating and cooling.

Management is carried out through the following modes:

  • cooling is the main task of such a design. 1 kilowatt is spent on the transfer of cool air into the room in exchange for 3 kW of cooled air. Lowering the temperature is possible up to a certain norm. The maximum cooling limit is +17-18 degrees. The flow of cold air comes out of the indoor unit and evenly cools the room;
  • for the heating function in splits, a reverse motion cycle is implemented. The reverse process occurs - cold air masses move outside, and heat goes into the room. When installing such a unit, it is better to pay attention to models with heating elements. It should be borne in mind that such equipment consumes a lot of electricity;
  • dehumidification function can be used. At the same time, excess moisture is removed from the cooled air. It is known that heat with high humidity is difficult for people who have problems with blood pressure and heart. The dry mode removes water molecules, but does not change the temperature;
  • the ventilation mode ensures the circulation of air masses in the room and their cleaning;
  • important function - carried out using an air-mechanical filter. This mechanism must be periodically cleaned with a vacuum cleaner and washed. More expensive models have a fine filter. The carbon filter allows you to clean the air from odors and tobacco smoke.

Also, splits are equipped with many additional functions. For example, the sleep timer ensures optimal temperature control at night. Automatic mechanism for moving vertical and horizontal blinds that regulate air flow. There is a timer to enable or disable the design at any desired time.

The table shows prices for some models.

Coming to the store of climatic equipment, the buyer, before making a purchase, often asks the question of how a split system differs from an air conditioner, and what is better for its tasks. To understand, it is worth understanding the features of both.

What is air conditioning and split system

Generally speaking, the word air conditioner is a general concept that is applicable to any cooling / heating equipment that operates on a special substance - a refrigerant (freon), and has main working units, such as a compressor, heat exchanger and fan.

A split system is a type of air conditioner. Such a device has two blocks: outdoor or external and indoor or indoor. In the first, freon condenses, and in the second, it evaporates. The modules are interconnected by electrical wires and a copper pipeline - a freon line through which the working gas circulates.

In another way, the external module is called the condensing unit or KKB for short, since it contains the main element of the external device - the compressor, which is responsible for pumping the necessary pressure to carry out the phase transition of the refrigerant. It also includes a condenser heat exchanger. This unit removes heat or cold from the system.

The indoor unit is also called the evaporative unit, as there is an evaporative heat exchanger in which the freon passes into the liquid state.

People are accustomed to the fact that air conditioners are often called monoblock devices: mobile and window devices that contain all the working elements in one case. Heat from mobile units is removed by a special corrugated hose (sleeve), which cuts into a window or ventilation system. At windows, it goes outside due to the fact that the condenser heat exchanger is located on the street.

Differences

So, we can conclude that there are still differences between the split system and the air conditioner. And what exactly?

It is easy to guess that the main difference is the design. The split system is divided into two blocks, and the air conditioner consists of one housing.

The second difference follows from the first point - the different internal structure of the air conditioner and split systems. In monoblock devices, the compressor, fan, heat exchangers and other additional elements are assembled in one block.

The split system air conditioner has a different device. Noisy parts are placed in the outdoor unit, namely the compressor, fan, condenser heat exchanger (it does not, however, make sounds). In the room module there is an evaporator and a tangential fan that takes air from the room, as well as an electronic control board, a filtration system and other functional elements.

If we start from the device of split-system air conditioners and monoblock units, then we can find other differences, for example, the noise level. Two-component installations are quieter, since the compressor and fan are placed outside the room.

More possibilities for split systems and in the field of treated air distribution. Blinds can be directed horizontally, vertically and right / left, while many devices are equipped with automatic adjustment of the shutters with the ability to select the desired angle of inclination. Monoblock type air conditioners have limitations in this.

Another important difference between a split system and an air conditioner is the equipment with additional functions and options. Various automatic modes, protective algorithms, multi-stage filtering system are the advantages of two-component devices.

Installation is also carried out completely differently. The window block is cut into a double-glazed window, the mobile one is installed on the floor and the air duct is led out the window or door. This can be done by the owner himself. The two-block system is mounted by professional teams, since here it will be necessary to connect the blocks to each other with a route and wires.

If you ask yourself what is better a split system or air conditioning, then, undoubtedly, the first option will be a more profitable and convenient purchase. Quiet operation, convenient additional functions, space-saving placement, long service life - all this will be provided by a modern two-component system.

There is the only advantage in the direction of monoblock type air conditioners - they are better suited for space heating than split systems, since for this they have a built-in heating element that works in any frost. Splits have restrictions on use in the cold season. They can heat only at outdoor temperatures down to -5 ° C due to the lack of independent heating elements.

Types of split air conditioning systems

Mobile

In the world of climate technology, there is another very interesting equipment for controlling the room climate - a mobile split system.

In fact, this is the same mobile air conditioner that can be moved around the room, but with an outdoor unit and more power - from 3 kW in the cold. True, only the compressor and the fan are placed in the external module, and the warm air is still removed by the air duct from the indoor mobile unit. The route between the modules is flexible, and there is no drain tube for condensate drainage. It is collected in a special pallet, like conventional mobile air conditioners.

The noise problem has been solved, but its values, which average 40-45 dB, still remain higher than that of full-fledged split systems.

Since in everyday life this type of split system is not very convenient due to the listed features, their use is limited to installation in places of temporary residence: in rented apartments, in rented office space, in summer cottages.

Classic

Classic split systems also come in several types, depending on the design of the indoor unit:

  • wall;
  • floor-ceiling or universal;
  • columned;
  • cassette;
  • channel.

In everyday life, wall-mounted air conditioners are more often used, since they have less power, which is enough to cool and heat an ordinary room, and a simpler installation. The indoor unit of such a system is hung on the wall at a distance of 15-20 cm from the ceiling so as to cut off the influx of sunlight from the window. There should be no tall objects or any obstacles in front of him. It is desirable to direct air flows to an unused area of the room. They usually come from the distribution grids on the bottom of the indoor unit body and are maximally concentrated at a distance of 1.5-2 m.

The external design of wall splits is very diverse - angular, vertical and standard rectangular models, made not only in white, but also in black, blue, red, silver and gold colors. As a rule, manufacturers determine their attention to the improvement of this particular type of two-block units, since the maximum number of sales falls on their account.

Where more powerful systems are needed, universal devices are mounted that allow you to direct the jet along a wall or ceiling. Such air conditioners-split systems in the ceiling version of the installation provide the most uniform air distribution even in rooms with a complex configuration.

Another big advantage of ceiling-type split system air conditioners is the ability to solve the problem of cooling in rooms with panoramic windows, where it is quite difficult to find a place to install the unit.

The power of some models reaches 15-16 kW for heat / cold.

These devices are mainly equipped with inverter control systems, due to which high energy efficiency and low noise levels are achieved. Ease of use, due to the double mounting option (wall or ceiling), wide control options and high-quality air purification in several stages complete the list of advantages of this type of climate control equipment.

If ceiling-mounted split-system air conditioners are no different from wall-mounted ones, then channel and cassette air conditioners have many differences. First of all, it is a hidden installation along with all communications in a false ceiling.

The cassette indoor unit is placed in a standard ceiling panel of a false structure, only the distribution grille is visible from the outside. Channel split systems can be removed both in suspended ceilings and false walls. But even among semi-industrial equipment, such devices stand apart, since these are very powerful air conditioners with a flexible configuration, control and air supply not from the unit, but through air ducts to the places where they are connected. Their power varies from 2.5 to 36 kW.

It is the channel system that has the ability to supply fresh air to the room in 30-100% volume. Installation is complex and requires only a professional approach.

Column splits are distinguished by high cooling capacity and automatic distribution of air flow, first into the ceiling space, and then throughout the entire volume of the room.

Multi-split systems

A variety of combined installations are multi-split system air conditioners, in which from 2 to 7 indoor units are connected to one outdoor unit. The installation of such equipment helps to solve the problem of cluttered facade of the building and provide cooling / heating of several rooms at the same time. Air conditioners of multi-split systems have more installation options due to the increased total length of the freon route and the height difference between the units.

In modern models, the total performance of all room modules can exceed the rated cooling capacity of the outdoor unit by 20-30%.

The only condition for the use of such equipment is the inclusion in all rooms at the same time only for cooling or only for heating.

There are multi-split systems in which it is possible to install air conditioners of various types as an internal module: wall-mounted, universal, cassette, channel, column. Combine them depending on the characteristics of each cooled zone.

The minimum number of indoor units for a multi-split air conditioner is two. As a rule, in this option, indoor modules are selected of the same type, more often these are wall-mounted devices, although installation of different types is also possible. They work simultaneously in only one mode, but otherwise there is no relationship between them, that is, you can set different temperatures or any other settings completely. Each module has a separate remote control.

Paying attention to the functionality of an air conditioner with two split systems or more, it is worth noting that there are no differences from a device with one indoor module. It comes with:

  • various fine filters;
  • intelligent automatic temperature control;
  • on/off timer;
  • air flow control;
  • functions such as restart and anti-icing of the KKB heat exchanger;
  • protective shutdown in case of malfunctions;
  • tracking sensors.

If we consider air conditioners with two split systems, it is worth noting that the differences between manufacturers are found only in the technical characteristics of the devices: power consumption, cooling and heating capacity, dimensions, route length, elevation changes, energy efficiency.

In most cases, a multi-split air conditioner is performed using inverter technology, as it provides more reliable operation of the compressor with a fairly intense load.

This equipment involves installation during repairs, since it is better to lay the lines to be laid in strobes in the wall than to mask them in decorative boxes along the walls. This is especially true if the multi-split air conditioner includes cassette and channel units, which, together with communications, require installation in a false ceiling or walls.

The installation of such a device has no fundamental differences from the installation of a two-component system: the external module is mounted on the wall, roof of the building or on the balcony, the internal one is indoors. This is the same stationary climatic equipment as the classic two-block air conditioner.

There are inexpensive split-system air conditioners with a minimum set of additional functions and automation. These are produced not only by little-known companies, but also by manufacturers with a worldwide reputation. These include the following brands:

Having decided on the type of indoor unit, calculate the required cooling capacity of the device. On average, they take 1 kW per 10 m². If there is a lot of equipment in the room or an excess of sunlight enters it, another 10-30% is added to this value.

When selecting equipment with several units, pay attention to the total capacity of all units and the ability of the outdoor module to support it.

Many do not know that when choosing a split system air conditioner, you need to pay attention to the compressor, or rather, to the manufacturer. So-called "no name" models may be of poor quality. The compressor breaks, therefore, the outdoor module loses its ability to function, which means the cessation of the entire system.

In the climate technology passport, they look at the permissible length of the route and the possible elevation difference, as well as whether the KKB compressor can pump freon through it. This will be required during installation.

It is worth familiarizing yourself with such technical characteristics as the minimum and maximum noise of both blocks, as well as the permissible range of outdoor temperatures at which the equipment can function.

If you need an inexpensive split-system air conditioner, then look for additional features. The fewer of them, the cheaper the equipment.

Be sure to take into account when the installation of the air conditioner will be carried out. If the repair has already been completed, then channel, cassette and multi-split systems cannot be installed.

These are the basic rules on how to choose split system air conditioners for domestic or semi-industrial use.
