Small bathroom design

Any owner of a small apartment is faced with the problem of arranging a small bathroom. Naturally, I want to do something beautiful, original, but at the same time functional. But in reality, it turns out that after installing a bathtub or shower cabin, 2 sq.m., a cabinet with a sink, a toilet bowl, if the bathroom is combined, remain at your disposal. However, even in such a limited space, you can create a convenient and comfortable atmosphere that not all large bathrooms have. Interior design for small bathrooms is quite a challenge. However, nothing is impossible!

First of all, you need to visually expand the space. To do this, use light colors, such as white or beige. And dark colors are best used for accessories and small details - that is, for accents.

Mirrors are a separate topic in the conversation about the interior design of a small bathroom. With their help, you can create the illusion of infinity of the room. Mirrors can be used everywhere: shelves, cabinets, walls, ceilings. If you are not afraid of the difficulties of cleaning, use mirrors, they will make your bathroom luxurious.

You should carefully consider the lighting of a small bathroom. Professional designers recommend using multi-level, bright light.

A very important point in the design of the interior of a small bathroom is the choice of furniture. In conditions of limited space, it is better to use compact cabinets, vertically arranged shelves, a shower cabin, or a corner bath.

Even a small bathroom can become the epicenter of beauty and comfort. The main thing is to correctly decorate the walls, buy the right furniture and plumbing. The style you choose will also dictate the rules, so be mindful of the nuances.

Remember that the best solution for a small space is a shower or a compact bath.

When designing a bathroom in 2017, pay special attention to the choice of color. Remember that a cool palette of whites, blue-greys and navy blues can make a space look taller. Do not overdo it with light shades, in any case, make accents.

Provide not one, but several lamps at once. This is a fundamentally important point, because lighting can make a room larger and brighter.

To add "squares" to the room, think about decorating the walls with mirror tiles.

A window to the floor is a very bold, cool solution for a bathroom in a private house. Thanks to natural light, a small room will visually expand and begin to breathe. The frosted glass panel will help solve the problem of privacy.

Make the design of a small bathroom simple, concise, but stylish. Decorate this area minimally. Get rid of items you don't use.

Bathroom with shower

A bathroom with a shower cabin is an incomparable solution for a small room. This design is quite compact and practical. It should fit into the style of the room, respectively, it must be designed in a single concept with the rest of the interior details.

The standard cabin consists of walls, a pallet and doors. There are also options without pallets, with or without partitions. Many now prefer shower enclosures in which two walls of the room act as bases.

You can also equip an open shower. This will expand the room, give a feeling of weightlessness. In this case, it is important to properly equip the drain and choose a special shower that directs the flow of water straight down.

Usually, such structures have an angular shape, which helps to save space. A bath combined with a shower cabin is easy to install and multifunctional. Sash doors will protect the room from steam, and the bath itself from outside influences.

Combined bathroom

To optimize space, a bathroom is often combined with a toilet. This solution allows you to place a washing machine in the room without sacrificing a sink or other elements. When the quadrature is very small, we are not talking about installing equipment. The main thing here is to arrange everything you need and leave at least a little room for maneuvers.

A combined bathroom is an area that needs zoning. It is possible to conditionally demarcate the space with the help of tiles, two shades of paint, or by combining several types of finishing materials.

Photo wall tiles

In a small room, you can install a hanging toilet and a compact shower with one glass wall. Shelves or hanging cabinets are suitable for storing things. Avoid accessories that eat valuable centimeters.

A small combined bathroom is the only thing left to visually enlarge. Give preference to light colors, use gloss and mirrors. If it fits in with the interior, consider decorating the wall with mirror tiles or a solid mirror.

Bathroom floor finish

This stage should start from the dismantling of the old tiles, careful leveling and cleaning of the surface. Floor coverings should be laid on a smooth base, so get rid of roughness and other defects.

Self-leveling floors

Floor leveling is a long and laborious process. The ability to quickly make an ideal, durable, seamless surface is provided by self-leveling floors. This is the name of a special mortar with binders (cement), aggregates (sand, limestone chips) and modifying additives that guarantee flowability.

For warm floors, a mixture with increased elasticity is usually used. In 2017, manufacturers offer products with a quick hardening function, which significantly speeds up the repair process.

Floor tiles

It is better to use tiles as a coating. The best option is porcelain stoneware. It has a lot of advantages, including high strength. Also, this material is not slippery, respectively, it will protect against falls.

Give preference to smooth tiles. Embossed is difficult to care for, but gets dirty at lightning speed.

Provence style bathroom design photo

If your room is small, buy oversized squares or rectangles.

The tile is also relevant. Choose the color and size, focusing on your own taste and on the parameters of the bathroom. This year, various decorative inserts and drawings are in trend. Think carefully about the overall picture and do not acquire unnecessary details.

Do not forget that the height of the tiled wall significantly affects the appearance of the space. Alternatively, tile only the lower part. This will protect the walls from scuffs, stains and maintain a classic appeal.

Do not give up creative experiments, mix materials and the interior of your bathroom will become original.

Mirror tiles

In the process of finishing the bathroom, waterproof drywall is also used. It serves as a substrate for applying paint, wallpaper or decorative plaster. This material helps to hide the flaws of the walls "after the builders", but at the same time reduces the area of \u200b\u200bthe room.

Dye

To decorate the bathroom, paint is actively used. Latex, chlorinated rubber, alkyd and enamel are resistant to moisture, so they are very popular. To prevent mold from appearing on the walls, they buy options with fungicides. Water-based paint has great fame. It is deeply absorbed into the surface and does not exfoliate for a long time.

With the help of modern paints, you can get glossy or matte effects, as well as create interesting lines, patterns or textures.

Try to furnish the room avoiding sharp corners. An oval mirror, bedside tables and cabinets with smooth lines, round lamps and irregularly shaped accessories are extremely important components.

If the room has a window, decorate it with tulle or stylish blinds in a light shade. The choice of bathroom style says a lot about the owners. Modern - these are exceptionally good words.

When choosing lockers, pay attention not only to the appearance, but also to the material - it should not be afraid of humidity and exposure to detergents. Also, do not overdo it with the size of objects. Too large things have no place in such a delicate room.

Photo of wooden shelf

All the necessary accessories are designed to store shelves in a stylish bathroom. These elements are able to advantageously complement and dilute the interior. The freshness of the space will be given by open shelving, placed within easy reach of the bath.

Wooden furniture in the bathroom

To save space, buy a cabinet with a sink. The washbasin can be built-in or overhead. The bedside table is obliged to differ in conciseness and spaciousness. Consider the option with doors and drawers.

Furniture in the bathroom is better to choose for plumbing. It's cool when all the elements in the room end up looking harmonious. Modern furnishings in the room are evidence of your impeccable taste.

Bathroom mirror

A mirror is a product without which it is impossible to imagine a bathroom. In addition to its main task, it performs a decorative function, is a component of style and, moreover, visually adds “square meters”.

If the space is large enough, the bathroom mirror can be full-length. In this case, do not forget to leave a free area nearby in order to be able to see yourself from head to toe.

Large bathroom mirror

The most common design option is a mirror above the washbasin. It is important to choose the right dimensions and the right shape. Let the rectangle be the same width as the sink or slightly smaller. Round, oval or other options, arrange as you wish.

Round bathroom mirror

Even at the repair stage, provide sockets to install an illuminated mirror. It will make cosmetic procedures more convenient and contribute to a visual increase in space.

The stylish design of an unusual bathroom will not be ashamed to be shown not only to guests, but to subscribers on social networks.

Bathroom types

The bath is the compositional center of the room. This acquisition is not for one year, so the choice must be taken with all seriousness. The material and shape you choose will affect the comfort level and the overall mood of the room.

If space permits, defy banality. A real attraction in your home will be a round bath. Its diameter is usually 1.6-17 m, so you will feel like a king.

Your attention is worthy of a ceramic bath. It perfectly retains heat, does not rust, does not scratch and magically silences the water jet.

For lovers of water procedures in the last century, a hot tub was invented - a jacuzzi. It has an impressive size, so it can only "settle" in a rather large room. A corner jacuzzi will be a way out of the situation if there are few squares, but you really want to relax.

Classic is always in fashion. The oval bath will perfectly fit into the interior.

There are different types of bathrooms. There is no doubt that you will find your ideal solution.

Plumbing in the bathroom

Faucets in the bathroom must be reliable and convenient. One of the most popular now considered single-lever. They allow you to regulate the temperature with one hand and allow you to turn off the water in just a second.

Photo of a white washbasin

Options with two taps are also relevant, especially in classic interiors.

Shower heads are able to emphasize the style of the room. Matte black, chrome, polished nickel or stainless steel, they complement the space in the best possible way.

Designer sanitary ware for the bathroom will cost much more, but in this case the exclusive is guaranteed.

Bathroom fixtures

Usually there are no windows in the bathroom, so the need for proper lighting is very high. Make sure your room is bright but not stressful. It is best when the light is emitted not by one source, but by several. At the repair stage, provide sockets and a short circuit protection system.

Photo of a green locker

Photo of lighting in the interior

Lamps in the bathroom perform several functions at once: they illuminate the space, divide it into conditional zones and, of course, decorate the interior. The choice of lamps depends on the style of decoration and the shape of the room.

Ceiling lamps are plafonds with matte reflectors. The lighter their tone, the brighter the room. To make the effect good, install a couple of such elements. Chandeliers in the form of a tablet can be placed not only on the ceiling, but also on the walls.

Photo of white tiles

Also in the bathroom, spotlights are often used. Small elements are "scattered" around the entire perimeter of the ceiling. And to create soft, warm lighting, sometimes they are additionally mounted on the floor. Thanks to this, the design of the bathroom becomes memorable.

To illuminate the desired area or complement the chosen design style, some prefer sconces. Choose original and always compact options with the ability to adjust the degree of brightness.

Today, manufacturers offer a series of fixtures made in a single concept with plumbing. Alternatively, consider purchasing a kit. Harmony in the bathroom - above all.

Bathroom decor

Details play an important role. To make the overall impression of the room pleasant, consider in advance how to decorate the space. As part of the style, choose creative curtains. They will protect the floor from splashes, foam and become a bright accent in the design. Pay attention to dense, waterproof, easy-care (easy to clean) curtains.

Photo of fabric curtains

A tiny but important item - soap dishes. Cheap plastic copies will never enrich the interior. Focus on chrome, stone or ceramic samples. This also applies to containers for liquid soap. A massive stylish jar of a suitable shade will become the most beautiful point in the design.

Photo of towels

Note that nothing should be accidental in the bathroom. Even towels are required to play in the same team with the rest of the elements.

To make the room reflect your personality, create your own bathroom decor. Make an original mirror frame or a stylish laundry basket. Little things done with soul are always priceless.

A cramped bathroom is not the one where the architects allocated too few square meters for the bathroom, but the one where the interior space is not properly organized. Even a room with a minimum number of "squares" can be turned into an example of advanced design ideas after repair. The main thing is to get rid of the unnecessary. Consider a photo of different bathroom design options.

The first thing to do to make the interior of a small bathroom much more spacious is to REMOVE EVERYTHING. We continue as usual:

  • store things in a place other than where they really belong
  • keep at hand not only what you need, but also everything that "suddenly needed"
  • improper use of the bath

It is precisely because of our disorganization and due to habits that have been established since childhood that decorative cosmetics, clothes for washing, 5 bottles of shampoo or shower gel (when one is enough), washing powder and cleaning products (their place is in a separate closet or pantry).

IMPORTANT! With proper zoning and design, a combined bathroom can look much more attractive than an imperial-style bath.

Small bathroom interior

For small bathrooms in the post-Soviet space, in almost all houses of planned construction, bathrooms are small) is ideal for a minimalist design. Baroque, colorful ornaments and many details will make a small bathroom even cramped. Ruffles, frills, rosettes and complex curls are not our option. In a small space, clear lines of objects and decor will be more appropriate.

Note! A wall mirror is a good way to visually expand a room.. However, remember that in high humidity conditions in the bathroom, the mirror will sweat. One of the main conditions for a stylish bathroom design is sterile cleanliness (walls, floors, glass and faience).

Another way to visually enlarge the space is to decorate the interior IN LIGHT COLORS with separate bright accents. Don't get carried away with pure white. It is difficult to stay in a completely white room for a long time. In addition, white tiles require daily care and washing. It is better to choose a light shade of any color, and complement the bathroom with elements of a contrasting or the same shade, but more saturated.

Note! In interior design, the same rule applies as when choosing clothes. Horizontal stripes on the walls make the room appear wider, while vertical stripes "raise" the ceilings.

Instead of hanging or floor cabinets in a small bathroom, it is better to use built-in furniture - or mount the shelves in a solid "canvas" without gaps, so that they completely cover the wall. It seems that this option will reduce the space. In fact, the feeling of tightness is caused not so much by the actual area, but by how many separate objects a person can distinguish. A built-in wardrobe or continuous rows of shelves are perceived as a whole, and the bathroom seems larger due to the psychology of perception of space. For the same reason, everything that can be hidden in a closet should be hidden in it.

The more small things and accessories remain in sight, the more cramped the bathroom will seem.

The mirror in the bathroom can be equipped with spot lighting, but you should not refuse from the overhead lighting. Evenly filling the space with light is another way to expand the bathroom.

The inward-opening door eats up an additional half meter. Change the hinges and install doors that open outward - or install sliding ones. This option is more convenient, but more expensive in installation and arrangement.

Combined bathroom design

Even if the bathroom is separate, one of the options for expanding the space is to combine these premises. So do not be sad if your apartment has a combined bathroom.

Popular layout options for a combined bathroom:

  • simple- the bathroom is wide, the rest of the furniture lines up along the longer side.
  • without corners- a "niche" of a semicircular shape is formed around the bath. Some of the useful space is "eaten up", but this is easily compensated by placing a large mirror in the bathroom.

A combined bathroom is an inconvenient solution if a whole family lives in the apartment, with parents and children, grandparents. In this case, you can use a decorative screen, which looks more attractive than oilcloth curtains, and is completely hidden in the closet after bathing (unlike curtains, which create visual noise even when pushed "into a corner").

How to design a corner bathroom

A corner bath is a compromise solution between the refusal of a bathtub and the usual oval-rectangular shape. It saves space in a small bathroom. And with the shape of the room close to a square, the corner bathroom should have taken the place of a standard "sister" in typical layouts.

With the placement of a corner bath, everything is easier than with a rectangular one. A corner bath - square or oval - should be IN THE CORNER, where it belongs.

Otherwise, the rules remain exactly the same as when designing a bathroom with a standard oval bath. In addition, the corner bathroom does not have to be in the shape of a square. Modern plumbing manufacturers offer any configuration:

  • oval(with rounded edge)
  • square(with straight and clear lines)
  • round(not the best option for tight spaces, but it exists)
  • curved shape(the edge of the bathroom has a complex shape, while maintaining a right angle)

How to choose furniture

All furniture for this room must be moisture resistant. This rule does not depend on the style or size of the room. Who wants to change all the interior items a year after purchase? A reasonable person wouldn't want to. So, first of all, when choosing, we focus not on design, but on the quality of workmanship. The main materials from which bathroom furniture is made:

  • plastic
  • glass
  • natural or artificial stone

Natural wood is a practical and beautiful material. But, unfortunately, not in our reality. European manufacturers, using natural materials in their bathroom collections, are guided by the typical layout of Europe, where the usual size of a bathroom is from 4 to 9 square meters. A typical bathroom in our conditions usually does not exceed 4 "squares". Natural wood furniture will not survive high humidity and tightness. Do not torment her or yourself (with prices and the prospect of re-equipping the premises in the coming years) - opt for more practical materials. Or choose furniture from elite manufacturers from exotic, but moisture-resistant types of wood. Suitable for you:

  • wenge
  • zebrano
  • iroko

Cabinets or shelves?

In a cramped room there is no place for cabinets! The more freestanding interior items - the more cramped the room seems. The ideal solution would be a built-in wardrobe up to the ceiling.

In addition, you can expand the bathroom due to the mirrored walls of the cabinet. But remember - they will have to be washed regularly from plaque. Not once a week, but daily.

A solid rack of open shelves without doors, or with sliding doors can become a replacement for cabinets.

Laundry basket

Keeping clothes in the washing machine until washing is not an option. But it is better to get rid of the basket in the bathroom - move it to the pantry or another room. The main task is to make sure that the laundry basket does not stand out against the general background. If there is absolutely nowhere to put it away - hide this "piece of furniture" out of sight, in a built-in closet. You can do the same with a washing machine if the loading mechanism is not top, but front. By doing this, you will solve two problems at once: things forever left on the typewriter will not attract the eye, and the typewriter itself will organically fit in as the bottom element of the cabinet to the ceiling.

Mirror

It is also better to choose a wall-mounted and flat mirror(without accompanying locker), but the maximum size. Ideal for a small bathroom can be considered a full-length mirror. If you are not afraid of the prospect of laundering large mirror planes, you can abandon the mirror as an interior item and make the whole wall mirrored.

Modern manufacturers of mirrors cover them with a special film that prevents fogging. Such mirrors are much more expensive than "room" mirrors, but they also last longer. Perhaps it is worth saving the energy for cleaning and funds for household chemicals, and immediately purchase a mirror "adapted" to high humidity.

Accessories

The rule of minimalism says: the smaller the room, the fewer individual elements it should have. And those that are necessary should be of the minimum size. A glass for toothbrushes, a bottle for liquid soap or a soap dish, and other small but important items should be combined in color with the walls and not attract the eye. The same goes for your bathrobe (if you keep it in the bathroom) and towels. To set the accents, it is better to place several thematic decorative elements in the bathroom - an exotic sink, a picture or a moisture-loving climbing plant. This approach will allow us to add a little carelessness to our extremely functional bathroom without cluttering up the space with unnecessary details.

How to equip a stylish bathroom in Khrushchev?

Khrushchev is not a sentence. It can be made not only comfortable, but also stylish. And the bathroom too.

The first thing to do with a typical Khrushchev bathroom is to get rid of the standard bathtub and replace it with a modern one. Corner bath will save a little space. So what, that the previous "cast iron"? High-quality acrylic keeps the temperature no worse. But we freed up some space for a washing machine, which can not be squeezed in any way. Instead of hiding the washing machine in a built-in closet, you can place it under the sink. The designer who came up with this witty solution deserves a monument from all the grateful residents of apartments with a typical Soviet layout. You can completely abandon the sink in the bathroom.

Another popular and modern way to save space is to install a hanging toilet instead of a floor-mounted one. Visually, the room becomes "lighter". The answer to the usual question: no, it won't. Mounts for suspended plumbing can withstand loads up to 200 kg.

How to choose a tile?

This is where you should start. After all, the repair and design of the bathroom begins with the selection of colors, shades, style and the choice of floor and wall tiles. The smaller the bathroom, the smaller the tiles should be. The psychological effect works very simply - we see not the size of the tiles, but their number. There are a lot of tiles - the space seems larger. If funds and patience allow, you can lay out the walls with ceramic mosaics. But do not overdo it with contrasts. Too colorful mosaic on the walls of a small bathroom will create a kaleidoscope effect, and the room will look even cramped.

You should not follow the popular advice and lay out the lower part of the room with dark tiles, and the upper one with light ones. This "design" divides the space that we are diligently trying to integrate.

Glossy tiles for small spaces are better than matte ones. It is more difficult to care for, but reflects light and performs the same role as a mirror - it visually expands the room.

How to make design modern

There are almost more design styles than the interior designers themselves. In the case of a small bathroom, all directions working with the antique theme will have to be abandoned. But this is rather a forced plus, no matter how strange such a wording may seem.

The richness of decoration, gold and glitter in interior elements, elaborate ornaments, an abundance of draperies and non-functional "decorations" - all this was invented in the era of stone castles with spacious halls. What was not needed in the Middle Ages was additional square meters. A modern person living in a house of a typical layout cannot afford to squander precious space.

The best solution for a typical bathroom would be high-tech or minimalist styles. The classic works well too, if you adapt it a little. Fortunately, all three styles do not go out of fashion, develop and remain relevant.

Fewer details, practicality, clean straight or smooth lines are current trends in modern design that are perfect for a small bathroom.

Bathroom design with shower

If you want to not only create a feeling of extra space in the bathroom, but also really get a little extra free space - maybe you don't really need a bath?

If you can live without a bath, install a walk-in shower. If the minimum size of the "lying" bath is about 140 cm in length, then the cabin takes from 70 cm. Half a meter, won from the architects who planned the old houses - by the standards of modern bathrooms, this is an unconditional victory over space.

If life without a bath is not at all a joy, you can find a compromise. For example, install a shower cabin, in the lower part of which there is a sit-down bath. Of course, you still won’t be able to fully lie down and relax in hot water - but you can sit and relax in hot water.

The walls of the shower in a small bathroom should be made of transparent, not frosted glass. And always clean. Then it will not attract attention, dissolving in the interior.

How to arrange a repair

The main problem of repairing a bathroom in a Soviet-built house is not crampedness, but communications. Pipe outlets are rigidly fixed, and major redevelopment requires significant effort and expense - if at all possible. In second place in terms of complexity is the alignment of the walls. is placed only on perfectly flat walls. If your plans do not include periodic gluing of fallen tile tiles, repairs should begin with puttying and plastering the walls.

Before refurbishing communications, it is worth sketching out a project for your new bathroom. There are several programs for performing such tasks - they are easy to find on the Internet. But you can complete the project in the old fashioned way, by hand, on a piece of paper. The main thing is that you accurately imagine what you want - and how much space you have for the realization of design fantasies. Do not forget to read our material about!

bathroom design!

It is from this room that each of us begins our morning, prepares for a new day, performing a traditional ritual. It is this room that ends our day, when after labor exploits it is necessary to relax, freshen up and get ready for bed. It is difficult to overestimate the importance of drawing up a competent, practical, functional and beautiful bathroom interior. After all, most often planning the location of a set of plumbing, storage systems and accessories falls on a small bathroom area in a standard apartment. And therefore, all the advice of designers on the visual expansion of space will be useful to most of us.

But any owner of an apartment or a private house wants to see his bathroom not only comfortable, convenient and practical in terms of care, but also stylish, modern, relevant to current trends in interior design fashion. And this fashion does not stand still - plumbing manufacturers offer us new, original models from their collections, finishing materials are being improved and become more practical, safe and easy to install and maintain. Modern bathroom accessories can not only facilitate all water and sanitation procedures, but also transform the design of the room with their appearance, bring originality, accent or emphasize the chosen stylistic design line.

Many of the bathroom trends for the coming season are echoing existing contemporary styling motifs. After all, practicality, convenience and beauty never go out of fashion. But there are also completely new mainstream options that we would like to introduce you to through an impressive selection of design projects collected around the world.

The latest trends in bathroom design

In the bathroom, we all want to surround ourselves with an environment that will help you relax and unwind at the end of the working day and will stimulate action in the morning. Proximity to nature, the search for harmony and balance, energy savings and the use of modern innovations are the main trends in the design of utilitarian premises. Modern designers on a few square meters are able to combine aesthetics, ecology and technology, creating a truly comfortable, functional and safe interior.

The bathroom, along with the kitchen space, is one of the most popular rooms in any home. All family members spend a lot of time during the day in the bathroom, the main water consumption is also carried out here (according to the latest estimates - about 100 liters per day per household), which means that the issues of proper space planning and energy saving will be key aspects in compiling a to-do list. for the repair or redesign of the premises for water and sanitary procedures.

Modern style tends to use minimalist moods when shaping the interior of the premises. In the bathroom, the whole situation is reduced to a traditional set of plumbing fixtures, storage systems and additions to them. Nothing superfluous, but it has everything you need to perform water and sanitary procedures. Minimal decoration allows you to create concise and fresh images even in small rooms.

Fashion trends - finishing

Modern finishing materials (for the most part) do not have a harmful effect on the environment and human health. Innovative materials created using modern technologies are constantly appearing on the market. Such products allow not only to create an original interior decoration, but also to simplify the process of cleaning indoors with a special microclimate.

The most fashionable trend in the decoration of bathrooms is the combination of materials. And the point is not only in the combination of large tiles with mosaic decoration, but in the principle neighborhood of concrete and plastered walls, glossy ceramics and textured wooden surfaces, “pebble” floors and mirror inserts. The combination of materials allows you to create not only interesting outwardly design options for surfaces, but also to choose the best options for protecting planes from factors such as high humidity, temperature extremes and various types of mechanical influences.

The ability to combine concrete, stone, wood and metal with traditional bathroom ceramics allows you to create truly original finishes. Wooden or wood-like surfaces with a beautiful natural pattern and matte texture look great in combination with light glossy finishes. With the help of natural wood or its high-quality analogues, you can bring notes of natural warmth and homeliness to a modern interior.

Experts recommend using ceramic (or stone) tiles in medium and large sizes to create a modern and stylish design. To dilute surfaces decorated with large ceramic products, you can use small mosaics or textured tiles.

In sketches of original ideas for creating bathroom finishes, designers continue the theme of using 3D surfaces. Create your own unique style with 3D ceramic tiles. Such surfaces can be the only decorative element in a minimalist bathroom interior and act as an excellent backdrop for sanitary ware and furnishings.

In modern bathroom design projects, there are many glass and mirror surfaces. The ability to multiply the light radiation with the help of mirrors, reflecting the rays, helps to visually expand the boundaries of the room, create a light and relaxing image of the space. In turn, glass surfaces perfectly transmit light and seem to dissolve in the interior, but at the same time they perfectly protect against moisture and zone the room. Glass and mirrors often become part of the decoration in bathrooms of a wide variety of configurations, sizes and shapes.

Modern style - plumbing

The modern bathroom combines not only modern design with innovative technology, but also functionality with art. After all, the creation of not only an ergonomic and comfortable, but also an aesthetic interior is “top-class” in terms of designing living spaces. Modern design projects are full of original details, creative design solutions. And the main idea of the non-trivial design of bathrooms is aimed at creating practical, safe, comfortable, but at the same time outwardly original sanitary ware.

Great design is always the result of bold decisions and the latest innovations. Modern plumbing, as well as accessories for it (faucets and faucets) is a combination of environmentally friendly solutions with creative ideas from designers. The emergence of new materials and technologies for their processing makes it possible to create more durable plumbing fixtures that are resistant to various types of loads and impacts. Ceramics has become more malleable, "flexible", as a result, each new collection of sanitary ware from leading manufacturers becomes a real work of art, full of innovative solutions.

Designers of modern plumbing fixtures are inspired by two opposite trends - on the one hand, we see the smoothness of lines and absolute harmony with such a natural phenomenon as water, and on the other hand, the severity and clarity of forms, even some aggressiveness of geometric solutions that become accents in any design of a utilitarian space.

Suspended plumbing structures continue to be popular with modern designers and their customers. Console toilet, bidet or sink look very stylish. All engineering systems and a drain tank are “hidden” behind false panels, it is very easy to clean the room, and installing such plumbing helps save precious centimeters of usable bathroom space.

Actual color schemes

The color scheme does not go out of fashion, allowing you to create design solutions close to nature. Natural shades are more relevant than ever. If we talk about the choice of color for creating a bathroom finish, then all shades of white and pastel colors have become absolute favorites, allowing not only to create the perfect background for plumbing and furniture, but also to visually increase the volume of the room. Within small spaces, the visual expansion of the boundaries of the room becomes paramount. And its main "tools" are color, light and form.

A bright bathroom will always be in trend. The use of snow-white shades for finishing a utilitarian space helps not only to visually increase its volume, but also to create a clean, light and fresh image that is most authentic to the idea of what many people think about what a room for water and sanitary procedures should be like. But experts warn against using light colors to decorate all bathroom surfaces. Use a dark color for flooring, at the very least. An absolutely white room looks "shapeless", dissolves in space and does not give an idea of the boundaries of surfaces, which can lead to emotional disorientation, instead of the expected relaxation and rest.

For the execution of storage systems, which most often have simple shapes and concise design, the following color schemes will be relevant:

  • smoky shades;
  • graphite and other shades of gray;
  • earthy;
  • beige with many color options;
  • "cappuccino";
  • "bitter chocolate";
  • "truffle".

Gray color has become one of the undisputed favorites in the design of premises for various purposes. Bathrooms are no exception. Various shades of gray are able to create not only the perfect neutral background for snow-white plumbing, but also go well with the shine of plumbing accessories, mirror and glass surfaces. There is a lot of nobility and calm, peaceful luxury in gray. By diluting the gray palette with surfaces made of wood (or its high-quality analogue) and white plumbing, you can get a truly modern and stylish design of a utilitarian room.

Imitation marble with gray veins on a white background will never go out of style. Traditional surfaces can be imitated by ceramics and artificial stone. The result is a design that is relevant to modern trends, but with a bias towards the classics.

Anyone who does not like "boring" bright bathroom design projects can safely bet on the modern trend in room design - black and white contrasts. The combination of snow-white and dark (most often graphite or glossy black) surfaces allows you to create an original, dynamic design, in which it will be easy to feel the tone and surge of strength and energy.

For those who find contrasting variations in bathroom design not colorful enough, we can offer a dosed use of bright colors. Whether it will be the use of an accent surface or the integration of bright sanitary ware (piece of furniture) - in any case, it is necessary to choose one bright spot in alliance with a light or neutral main background.

Bathroom accessories - the finishing touch

Despite the desire of modern style for a minimalist setting, it is impossible to do without accessories in the bathroom. Moreover, the additional elements include such necessary fixtures as faucets, taps, shower heads, bath handles, rugs, hygiene kits, towels, shower curtains and more.

Modern additional elements for plumbing are not just faucets and faucets, these are innovative devices that can save water consumption by spraying the jet into tiny drops, create illumination for chromotherapy, and even heat and purify water. But in addition to their functional qualities, bathroom accessories can decorate the interior, become its accents and bring originality to the design of the room.

In modern bathroom design projects, the lighting system plays a crucial role. In addition to performing their main function, lighting devices and compositions from them become decorative elements. You can use point light sources or embed backlight lines, but as a result, it is important to get not just a well-lit room, but a visual expansion of its area and the creation of interesting optical effects.

The combination of styles - the balance of classic and modern

The modern style mixes elements inherent in various stylistic trends. Here and minimalism, and loft, Scandinavian style, and eclecticism, classical motifs and industrial. A harmonious combination of trends in different styles allows you to create simple (outwardly, but not from the point of view of construction), but at the same time interesting interiors, in which everyone is comfortable and comfortable.

Spacious bathrooms can afford the integration of classic motifs in a modern style. Storage systems with classic decor and execution or a luxurious frame for a mirror, lighting fixtures with a touch of baroque - all these interior elements will not only dilute the rather laconic design of the bathroom, but also raise the degree of uniqueness.

When decorating modern bathrooms, you can often find borrowing country and eco-style motifs. Closeness to nature is most easily reflected in the use of materials such as stone and wood. So many contradictory materials in terms of their aesthetic and technological properties are able to create harmonious unions within the design project of one room. Even some rusticity in the use of materials is acceptable in bathroom design.

Bathroom 2019: current design ideas

A person visits the bathroom, both in the morning and in the evening, and during the day he can look several times. In addition, when guests come to the house, they often visit the bathroom, so the correct and harmonious design of this room is very important, since it plays an important role in the home interior.

Modern bathroom design needs to be carefully considered

The bathroom is one of the main places in the house, which can charge a person with positive emotions in the morning, which will further affect the whole day. It can also relax and bring peace of mind after a hard day at work, fill you with pleasant emotions and help you fall asleep easily.

The bathroom serves us throughout the day

Given the specifics of this place, it is important to correctly, harmoniously and tastefully select the necessary furniture, plumbing and other decor elements, so that the room matches the overall interior of the whole house, without standing out from its background.

Of course, the interior of a bathroom in a modern style should please the eye and fill it with freshness and vivacity, therefore the functionality and practicality of this place should be supplemented with interesting decor elements that will also stably endure the temperature regime and high humidity of this room.

Modern design

Recently, many interior decorators are increasingly inclined to believe that style deserves no less attention than a bedroom or living room. In connection with this position, more and more new and rather bold design concepts have been developed to complete the design of this room.

You just need to think about stylish bathroom design

If we are talking about the modern design of the bathroom, which is located in the apartment, then, first of all, it is worth noting that it is characterized by the absence of any restrictions on the use of building and finishing materials, as well as their shades. Moreover, non-traditional and exclusive design solutions, on the contrary, are popularized. The emphasis is mainly on non-standard room lighting, as well as adding various new features to the interior that will increase the comfort level of staying in the room.

The choice of materials for finishing the bathroom is practically unlimited.

When wondering how to competently design a modern bathroom design, first of all, it is worth considering the moment that, in the current sense, it is comparable to all other parts of the house as a whole. Therefore, the bathroom should be perceived as a full-fledged room, and not just a place where you can wash your face in the morning and go to work. For its arrangement, it is necessary to take into account not only the maximum functionality and ease of operation, but also the aesthetic design features that will harmoniously fit into the interior of the whole house. The main stages of bathroom design can be divided into four points.

  1. Design.
  2. Finishing materials.
  3. The use of mirrors.
  4. Performing lighting.

If we talk about the advantages of modern design, it is worth noting the fact that the use of atypical materials in design has become a new fashion trend, namely:

  • various wood;
  • anti-corrosion metal alloys;
  • polymeric materials;
  • concrete.

When a modern bathroom design is being implemented, one should not forget that, regardless of where it is located, whether it is a house or an apartment, it is not just an integral part, but literally a continuation of the entire dwelling, and, accordingly, it should be carried out in combination with the overall interior.

The design of the bathroom should be combined with the overall design style of your home.

Wall design

For a bathroom that has a relatively small square footage, as, for example, in many typical apartments, the most advantageous option would be to use various combinations of tiles in the design, both in size and in color. A valid option is considered to be a combination with painted walls, or decorated with mosaics.

Tile for wall decoration in the bathroom - the most popular and suitable option for everyone

The preferred places for laying tiles are the surfaces that are most in contact with water:

  • sink or washbasin;
  • surfaces around the bath;
  • place for a shower.

The tile will protect the walls of the bathroom from high humidity

As an alternative to tiles, specialized waterproof paint or decorative plaster can be used, since these materials are quite resistant to aggressive environments.

Use special waterproof plaster in the bathroom

Finishing materials

Given the specifics of the use of the bathroom, materials for its decoration are used only with increased strength, as well as resistant to temperature changes. So, for example, for the design of floors, either a tiled coating is used, or from wood treated with special moisture-proof mixtures.

The floor can be tiled under wood

For small rooms, it is typical to use a combination of wood and metal in the design, but only as small elements of the overall decor. Greater preference, in the modern design of bathrooms of small sizes, is still given to tiling.

For the bathroom floor it is better to use tiles

Regarding modern finishes, it can be confidently noted that a non-standard combination and a combination of various materials and textures will be in clear preference than the classic design option.

The secret of modern design lies in the skillful combination of different finishing materials.

Using mirrors

Of course, the main attribute of any bathroom is a mirror, especially in modern design, it is widely used not only for its intended purpose, but also as an advantageous design solution. The modern design of mirrors is characterized by restraint and conciseness in appearance, seasoned and clear geometric shapes prevail. Also quite popular is the trend of mirrors not being framed, or better yet, mounted as part of a wall or even a ceiling.

In a classic-style bathroom, mirrors can be decorated with baguettes

In recent years, huge mirrors ranging in size from the ceiling to the floor have become quite popular in the design, since they tend to visually expand the room, adding space. Another feature of the modern use of mirrors in the bathroom interior is a mirror with built-in lighting, despite what is typical for such an interior element: the backlight has several levels of light brightness adjustment, which in turn creates an incredibly beautiful and romantic atmosphere in the room.

Wide mirrors built into the illuminated walls define the look of the modern bathroom.

Such mirrors fit well into the interior of a classic style bathroom.

Performing lighting

In this regard, the design is quite simple and does not require additional frills or complex designs. Modern trends are more inclined to use either a modest and the same type of chandelier, preferably in a geometric design, or adjustable lighting mounted in the ceiling and mirrors. The main thing is the simplicity and conciseness of the design, without unnecessary decorative load.

The classic way of lighting is to install lamps around the perimeter of the bathroom.

The second lighting option involves placing on the ceiling

Modern bathroom interior

Recently, the design of residential premises has been increasingly dominated by modern and minimalism, which means that this will also directly affect the modern bathroom. Since this room is now also considered a full-fledged part of the housing, they are trying to give it maximum functionality, which can manifest itself in the form of arranged furniture, which, it would seem, is not typical for such a room:

  • puffs;
  • dressers;
  • sun loungers;
  • armchairs;
  • cabinets.

Hanging cabinets and shelves solve the problem of storing all sorts of useful little things

In addition to such atypical things in the interior of the bathroom, it is also becoming popular to add elements of wildlife in the form of various plants, and sometimes miniature hanging gardens. If the bathroom provides for the presence of both a bathtub and a shower cabin, then in this case it is preferable to use glass partitions or curtains.

Traditional Japanese bathroom furniture fits into modern style

Perhaps the main rule of a competent modern bathroom interior can be called restraint in the use of various accessories and decor elements.

A modern bathroom can be decorated in a rustic style with solid wood furniture

Advice! The main thing is to visually increase the space of the room, without giving it a feeling of pomposity and clutter, absolutely nothing superfluous should be present.

Fashion trends 2018

Of course, each person tries to design a bathroom, based primarily on their taste preferences, as well as on the basis of the general style of the whole house, so that there is no cardinal difference and dissonance between the design of different rooms. However, it is worth noting the fact that in the design of utilitarian rooms for several years now, such styles as classical, ethnic, modern and high-tech have been used. These four directions are considered generally accepted standards that can be applied to design. And if in the case of the first two styles, their use is possible only under certain conditions, then modern and high-tech can be used in almost any modern design of the entire living space. Consequently, the utilitarian room will not fall out of the general range of stylists.

The minimalist style prefers thin and narrow hanging furniture that frees up usable space.

Note! All these styles remain in trend for 2017, but the difference between their popularization lies in the fact that ethnic and classical design styles are more typical in the design of bathrooms in wooden or simple country houses, where there is more space and freedom of action. In other cases, the use of modern and high-tech styles is preferred.

Mediterranean style bathroom design

Bathroom in modern style

Modern is a very unusual and unusual design style not only for the bathroom, but for the whole house as a whole, and therefore creative people are more inclined to choose it. It combines an exclusively natural theme, both in the forms and in the colors of the interior. According to the Art Nouveau style, the following colors are characteristic:

  • gray;
  • brown;
  • green;
  • beige.

Modern style combines marbled tiles with floral patterns on the walls

Regarding the design of the walls, it is also necessary to adhere to the maximum approximation to naturalness, and therefore the best option may be to use tile tiles or panels that imitate it. Walls made of europanels look good, since the main purpose of their use is to obtain wonderful textured patterns that will have outstanding curves and curved geometric lines. If tiles are chosen as a finishing material, then preference should be given to floral ornaments.

The floors in such a bathroom should also be designed as much as possible in line with the overall style (either motifs of curved lines, or a floral image). As for the material, the floor can be made both from floor tiles and lay out a mosaic, there is still an option to make it self-leveling.

General Art Nouveau decoration is preferably made from natural materials, such as:

  • ceramics;
  • gypsum;
  • wood;
  • a rock;
  • crystal.

The bath should be snow-white and fit into the interior design

The mirror in such a room must necessarily correspond to the theme and not stand out from the general background, and therefore it should not have straight, strict corners. It will look even better if you apply asymmetry to it, both in the form of a non-standard frame, and in the form of the asymmetric mirror itself.

The furniture used is light and "unobtrusive", which can go well with the natural ornament of the ceiling, walls and non-standard decor elements. The material is preferred to use natural, you can also complement the interior with a carpet resembling grass.

Bathroom furniture should not hamper your movements

High-tech bathroom

This style is an absolute opposite not only to the Art Nouveau style, since it is dominated by restraint and rigor in interior design. It is designed for maximum functionality, and therefore it combines metal and glass, the availability of all kinds of appliances necessary for the bathroom, and the minimal decor of the room.

High-tech style consists of straight lines and modern materials

Of course, there is much less comfort and home warmth here than in other styles, but this is compensated by the high-tech functionality of the utilitarian room and its use for its intended purpose, that is, for performing hygiene procedures. The color design is preferably monochromatic, close to minimalism, mainly gray and beige shades prevail, but sometimes the overall, monochrome design can be diluted with some bright detail, for example, a poisonous red or green shelf, cabinet.

What should be the bathroom? First of all - comfortable and functional, so that everything you need can comfortably fit in a small area. A well-planned layout promotes relaxation after a busy day and saves time in the morning when you need to quickly pack up or freshen up. And the bathroom should look attractive, be stylish, meet current fashion trends. Interior design plays a very significant role, because with the help of decoration you can profitably zone the room, smooth out or emphasize the features of the layout, make the bathroom truly exclusive. Consider what a modern bathroom design can be like.

The basis of modern design is the combination of innovative technologies with aesthetics and ecology. There should not be anything superfluous in the interior, each attribute has a specific purpose and all the elements of the decor are in perfect harmony with each other. The key aspect is saving water and energy, because the bathroom in any house is actively used by households, and water consumption is the highest here.

Preference is given to multifunctional plumbing devices of a compact size, which makes it possible to rationally use a small area of the room and make staying in it as comfortable as possible. Eco-friendly materials, soft lighting, laconic decor - all this allows you to create a fresh image of a modern bathroom. When arranging the interior, designers use a wide variety of techniques to visually increase the space, thanks to which even a tiny bathroom seems larger and brighter.

The most current trends:

  • combination of artificial and natural materials;
  • a combination of different textures - smooth with embossed, matte with glossy;
  • use of 3D surfaces in decoration;
  • active use of glass surfaces and mirrors;
  • installation of plumbing and sanitary fittings of non-standard design;
  • a combination of smooth flowing shapes and strict geometric shapes in one interior;
  • saving usable space due to hidden installation of engineering systems and suspended plumbing;
  • restrained colors, the use of natural shades;
  • the predominance of light colors in the decoration and dark accents;
  • original, creative lighting devices and accessories;
  • mixing elements of different stylistic directions;
  • the presence of living plants in the bathroom;
  • use in facing tiles of a hexagonal shape and with a geometric pattern.

To transform your bathroom, you should study in more detail the basic principles of combining colors and materials, the rules for selecting accessories and plumbing.

Finishing materials

Tile is still the most popular type of finish for the bathroom, but it is far from the classic cladding that everyone is used to seeing in such rooms. Designers recommend combining medium and large rectangular tiles with ceramic and glass mosaics, as well as small textured tiles.

Large tiles with stone imitation are in great demand, and not only the floor, but also the walls are lined with it. Hexagonal tiles are laid in the same way - a continuous transition from a vertical to a horizontal plane makes the room more attractive with a minimalist design.

bathroom stone effect tiles

Also successful is the combination of stone cladding on the floor with imitation brickwork on the walls, the combination of ceramics with smooth concrete walls. Marble imitation is the best way to add luxury and elegance to the interior. It can be full or partial cladding of the room, as well as marble countertops, sinks and bathtubs.

Advice. It is very important not to overdo it here: if the walls and floor are made of marble, then the furnishings, plumbing should be plain, white is best. If you plan to install a marble countertop or bath, the walls should be plain, or at least with a less expressive pattern. Otherwise, all surfaces will merge, which visually reduces the area of \u200b\u200bthe room.

Wooden elements in the decoration help to dilute the restraint and a certain coldness of such a design. As a rule, these are wooden furniture and accessories, such as mirror frames. Expensive projects use wooden tubs, sinks, shower trays and shower panels. Of course, all wood undergoes a special water-repellent treatment, which allows you to safely use it in conditions of high humidity.

With a limited budget, natural wood will perfectly replace its imitation. Plastic panels and “wood-like” tiles look no less impressive if you choose the right shade and texture of the material. Floor tiles allow you to create an exact imitation of plank flooring or parquet boards, which gives the interior a cozy and at the same time solid look. Wall tiles with imitation of wooden lining are in perfect harmony with stone-like cladding, especially in dark colors.

No modern design project is complete without glass and mirrors. Transparent partitions, shelves, bookcases seem almost weightless, as if they dissolve in the interior, although they perfectly perform their functions. Large mirrors and other reflective surfaces visually expand the space, which is especially true for small rooms. Glass is perfectly combined with any materials, so there are no special requirements or restrictions.

Color spectrum

When designing a modern interior, preference is given to pure natural shades. A bright bathroom is in trend: a snow-white finish can be combined with beige, sand, light gray and any pastel colors. At the same time, designers recommend avoiding monochrome design, in which all surfaces merge, the shape of the room is lost and the bathroom looks rather dull.

Be sure to use dark or color accents in the interior: for example, light walls favorably shade cabinets and chocolate-colored countertops, dark gray accessories look good on a white or beige background. If the walls and furnishings are white, then the floor is best made dark - an earthy or graphite shade. Conversely, when using dark cladding, plumbing and furniture should be chosen in white, otherwise the room will look too gloomy.

The current trend is now black and white contrasts in the interior. The combination of snow-white cladding with black or graphite accessories, furniture, plumbing gives the room an original look and some dynamism. Black inserts in wall decoration look spectacular, especially with a geometric pattern. Here you can combine classic tiles with hexagonal or textured tiles.

Color accents are also relevant, because they create a mood, make the interior more interesting and colorful. It is allowed to use bright colors - red, green, orange, but only on condition that the main background is neutral. You can tile one of the walls with bright tiles or install colored plumbing, the main thing is that a neutral color prevails, otherwise the interior will turn out to be too bright and oversaturated. Also, you can not use more than three different colors to avoid fussiness.

Plumbing

To make the bathroom look stylish and modern, when choosing plumbing, you should give preference to products of the original form, but at the same time practical and safe. Free-standing bathtubs with high sides look very impressive. Such models, with good capacity, are distinguished by a certain elegance, smooth lines, and fit perfectly into any interior.

Even more diverse are the washbasins: oval, rectangular, round, asymmetrical, overhead and recessed – you can easily choose an option for any style of bathroom.

But modern faucets are the most creative. These are no longer banal faucets with valves, but real works of art that combine elegance, reliability and high functionality. Designer faucets are complex designs that combine metal with natural clay and wood.

As for the type of plumbing according to the method of installation, the most relevant here are hanging toilet bowls and sinks, the same applies to cabinets. Such models facilitate cleaning and save usable space, and the absence of visible communications gives the interior a more aesthetic appearance. And in terms of design, console bidets, toilet bowls and sinks significantly benefit compared to classic plumbing.

Floor tiling with hexagonal tiles

The most popular way to transform a bathroom is to install new tiles, such as hexagon tiles. Such cladding is now in trend, and many designers are happy to use it in their projects.

The laying technology has some nuances due to the geometric shape of the material, but in general, there is nothing complicated here. The main thing is to choose the right tile according to color and pattern, because the range of such products is quite wide.

Collection nameDescription
The material is porcelain stoneware, dimensions 40x34.6 cm. Antique tiles with a matte surface. Features an unobtrusive floral pattern and warm tones. This cladding is perfect for a modern design bathroom with retro or country elements.
The minimum dimensions are 14x28 cm, the maximum - 80x80 cm. The tile has a matte and partially polished surface, a bright geometric pattern in the form of an imitation of several hexagons in one. Can be used for wall and floor cladding. The design of the tile is most suitable for an industrial and minimalist bathroom.
Design tiles with a contrasting black and white pattern, 15x17 cm in size. This flooring is most effectively combined with concrete walls, imitation of rough brickwork and wood. Laying can be done randomly or in a certain order - to create an ornament or a finished pattern
Hexagonal tile with embossed pattern. Dimensions 17x15 cm, available in white and black, with a satin finish. The collection includes several pattern options that can be mixed or stacked separately.
Tiles with a smooth glossy and satin surface without a pattern, minimum size 6.5x7.5 cm, maximum 15x17 cm. In addition to black and white tiles, the collection includes color options, which allows you to create a unique bathroom design

You need to buy tiles with a margin of at least 15% of the total, because, unlike the standard rectangular one, it will not work to lay a hexagonal tile without trimming close to the wall. Additionally, you will need:

  • primer;
  • tile adhesive;
  • notched trowel;
  • rule and level;
  • crosses for seams 1.5 mm;
  • grout;
  • tile cutter or grinder.

If the tile is unglazed, you will additionally need a special protective compound to treat the surface of the material.

Without this, the tile will absorb moisture and get more dirty, which will negatively affect the appearance of the cladding and shorten its service life. Let us consider in detail the installation of just such an unglazed tile, 12.7x12.7 cm in size and 9 mm thick.

Step 1. To carry out a protective treatment, the tile should be laid out on a flat surface with the face up. This can be done on the floor by placing a sheet of hardboard under the facing material. Tiles are laid out as densely as possible to reduce the consumption of funds.

Step 2 Take a water-repellent primer designed specifically for unglazed tiles and stone. In our case, this is a solvent-based Fila FilaFob. Since the primer has a pungent odor, the room where the treatment is carried out must be ventilated.

Step 3 Pour a small amount of primer into a container, impregnate the roller and apply the agent to the surface of the tile. It is necessary to roll out carefully so that the liquid penetrates well into the pores of the material and there are no dry areas left.

Step 4 After completing the processing, leave the tile in this position for several hours, until the surface is completely dry. As a rule, it takes from 3 to 5 hours, depending on the temperature in the room.

Step 5 Start preparing the foundation. It should be perfectly even, since laying is done on a thin layer of glue and the slightest differences will lead to a mismatch of the edges of the tile, that is, small steps form on the lining. Therefore, you should carefully check the plane with a level and eliminate the defects found with a solution or glue. After drying, the repaired areas must be sanded and the floor vacuumed.

Step 6 A dry, clean and even floor is treated with a primer using a wide brush or roller. If the composition is quickly absorbed, it must be applied in two layers.

Step 7 After the surface has dried, tiles are laid out on the floor to determine how many elements need to be cut. The layout starts from the wall opposite the entrance: the row should consist of whole tiles and clear halves so that a perfectly even line forms at the junction of the floor and wall. At the side walls, it is allowed to use a large pruning, that is, most of the tiles.

How the marking is done: a whole tile is applied from above to the cladding, the seams are exactly aligned, and then a line is drawn under the ruler along the intended cut with a pencil. To make the tile lie more evenly, one of the scraps can be placed under it.

If the cladding fits close to the wall, and it is impossible to try on the whole tile, they act differently. To calculate the length of the edge of the cut element, the ruler is laid on the tile along the seam, resting the end against the wall. Having measured the required length, transfer it to a separate tile and mark it with a pencil. Then they put this tile on the already glued one, aligning the seams to the millimeter, and along the mark, lay the ruler parallel to the wall and draw a cut line.

Step 8 Tile adhesive is prepared, collected with a comb and applied to the floor from the wall to the width of the tile. The composition is leveled along the wall and grooves are formed with a spatula. Carefully lay the tiles one after the other, very carefully level the plane, then insert crosses into each seam.

Advice. Due to the small size of the tile, the displacement of the seams occurs almost imperceptibly, but with each subsequent row, the mismatch of the joints will increase. It is very difficult to correct such defects, therefore, it is imperative to control the laying by the rule, attaching it to the ends of the tiles in each row.

Step 9 At the side walls, where it is already difficult to reach with a notched trowel, they do it a little differently. The glue is applied to the back of the tile and grooves are formed with a comb, and the adhesive composition is applied to the floor with a small spatula and thinly distributed over the surface.

Step 10 Having reached the doorway, the tiles are laid out on the floor without glue and the cut line is marked exactly according to the level. Trimming is performed, after which this row is glued to the floor.

Advice. The junction line of the bathroom floor cladding and the floor covering in the corridor should be exactly under the door leaf. The indent from the plane of the outer wall towards the bathroom should be 1.5-2 cm.

After the lining is completed, the room is left for a day so that the glue dries, then the seams are cleaned, the surface is vacuumed and wiped clean. The next step is grouting. The grouting process is carried out as standard, as for traditional tiles: the composition is applied with a soft spatula, filling all the recesses, the excess is removed. After drying, the remaining grout is removed with a damp sponge.

Traditional tile leveling is time consuming and requires attention and diligence. For a beginner, this is one of the main problems when lining a bathroom, and mistakes are made most often here. But there is a great opportunity to simplify the work and achieve the perfect result with the help of special alignment systems.

The Tile Alignment System (SVP) is a plastic element in the form of flags and wedges that are connected to each other and fix the tiles in the desired position.

The main difference between this installation is that individual tiles without glue are assembled into small blocks, or segments, and then glued to the floor.

The floor is flat

How does it work in practice?

Step 1. On a table or other flat surface, 5-6 tiles are placed face up and flags are inserted between them. During operation, you need to follow the direction of the edges indicated by the factory markings.

The thickness of the flags is 1.5 mm, which fits almost any tile. This method of laying allows you to significantly reduce the time of finishing work and achieve a perfectly flat plane. Of course, the rough base should also be as level as possible, otherwise it will not be possible to lay the tiles with high quality.
