The purchase of a sliding wardrobe is a successful solution to the problem of lack of space. A wardrobe with a sliding door system can be installed in any part of the apartment, while furniture with hinged doors requires more space.

In addition to size, small wardrobes are no different from standard furniture and, like ordinary wardrobes, can be built-in and freestanding. Which of these options to choose, everyone decides for himself. Each of them has its strengths and weaknesses.

Features of cabinet and built-in cabinet

At first glance, it seems that for a small apartment, especially for a studio, a built-in wardrobe is the only right solution. Indeed, such furniture takes up little space. Any niche is suitable for arranging a built-in wardrobe - a compartment. It can also be mounted in an interior wall or plasterboard partition.

In a studio apartment, with the help of such a cabinet, you can zone the space. In addition, it can be made double-sided - on the one hand, a dressing room, and on the other hand, a place to store kitchen utensils. Such a cabinet will cost less than a cabinet one, since the consumption of materials for it is less.

It makes sense to make a built-in wardrobe the entire width of the room and the entire height. So you save yourself from the need to wipe the dust from the upper mezzanines and make the most of the entire space of the room.

However, a significant drawback of built-in furniture is that it is extremely difficult to dismantle it if necessary. In addition, such a cabinet is most often made to order according to individual sizes suitable for a particular place and it is extremely problematic to rearrange it subsequently to another room.

Cabinet furniture is deprived of this shortcoming. If you do not want to wait for a custom cabinet, you can purchase it in a ready-made version. Now many firms - manufacturers offer furniture for small apartments. In addition, if desired, you can pick up a chest of drawers, a cabinet or other furniture module to make a set. The cabinet cabinet - a compartment can be moved, swapped, transported to another place - it is very mobile. However, its cost will be slightly higher than the built-in version.

To the bedroom

Depending on which part of the apartment the closet is intended for, there will be its filling. A small wardrobe in the bedroom can be narrow - about 45 cm, as well as one or two doors. If spouses will use this closet, it is necessary that there is a place for women's and men's wardrobes in it. Also, the closet should have a compartment for hangers and shelves or drawers in which underwear, bedding sets, blankets, blankets, towels and other things will be stored.

Many designers advise ordering cabinets - compartments with mirrored doors to the entire height of the room. In this case, the wardrobe in the bedroom should not be mounted opposite the bed. It is believed that the reflection of a sleeping person in the mirror negatively affects his well-being. And experts in the field of psychology assure that in families where there is a mirror in the bedroom, quarrels over trifles occur more often than others.

Psychics and astrologers also categorically object to the presence of mirrors in the bedroom, arguing that if the mirror reflects the door of the matrimonial bedroom or the bed (regardless of whether - in whole or in part), this increases the failures in the family.

If you still want to have a mirror in the bedroom, you can make a mobile dressing table on wheels with a mirror, which can be hidden in a wardrobe at night.

To the living room

We are all used to the fact that things in the living room are traditionally stored in standard walls or modern slides. However, most often, such furniture is very non-functional and, with all the abundance of shelves and drawers, in fact, it turns out to be impractical and small-capacity. And the problem of placement of the wardrobe remains unresolved. This is especially true for one-room apartments, where one room at a time. Sometimes the situation is further complicated by the circumstance if the room has a non-standard layout. In this case, a small wardrobe will also help.

There are few options for placing a small closet - a compartment in the living room. The classic version of cabinets - from wall to wall. If this option is not suitable, and the space needs to be used to the maximum, you can order a corner cabinet - a compartment with a straight or radius door. It will look organic and original.

A minimalist interior is typical for a small space, that is, everything superfluous should be hidden from prying eyes. For these purposes, a wardrobe was invented. Behind sliding facades, you can hide a niche with a TV panel, a cabinet with a computer or laptop and other sources of radiation. In this case, the wardrobe will also serve as a study. This technique works great in small odnushki and studios.

Another way to minimize space in a small room is a transformer bed built into the closet. Most often, the bed itself is mounted in the middle, and on the sides you can place two small wardrobes with sliding doors. In this case, the upper space of the room can also be involved. If the room does not allow you to put two cabinets, you can get by with one cabinet.

in the hallway

The internal and external structure of the sliding wardrobe for the hallway is somewhat different from those cabinets that are designed for living rooms. Unlike the bedroom, mirrors in the hallway are not only not forbidden, but also welcome. Especially if it is a small hallway. In this case, the mirror will just be a very good technique for visually expanding the boundaries of the room. In addition, it will reflect the light from the ceiling lights, making the room brighter, especially since the hallway is not the most illuminated place in the apartment. There are no windows in it, and the light here is turned on only when necessary. Therefore, furniture for cramped Khrushchev hallways is better to choose light shades. In addition, it should overlap with the overall design of the room. To add light in a dark corridor, you can make LED lighting on top of the wardrobe.

Mandatory elements for the closet - compartment in the hallway:

  • Office for outerwear. It can be a bar on which hangers with coats and fur coats are hung, or it can be a wall plank with hooks. It is worth mentioning that if the cabinet is too narrow, then things on the bar will be placed frontally.
  • Shoe cabinet. A very convenient option is a multi-storey cabinet with vertical compartments for pairs of shoes.
  • Space for accessories. Various little things tend to get lost at the most inopportune moment. Find a place in your small closet to store these items so they are always in sight. For scarves and belts, you can make a special retractable rod - holder. Keys, combs and business card holders can be hidden in a special box, and send hats and umbrellas to the top shelf.
  • Shelves for small items. Entering the apartment, the first thing you want to do is get rid of the keys, bags and free your hands. If space allows, add a few side shelves outside the wardrobe.

Today, the choice of furniture is not limited to store offers. Any interior item can be made to order according to an individual project. When choosing a sliding wardrobe, the dimensions of the furniture should ideally fit into the parameters of the room. We will tell you more about the sizes of frame furniture in this article.

The choice of new furniture always begins with determining its dimensions. Here it is necessary to take into account not only the width and height of the room where the piece of furniture will be installed, but also the final design of the room. In this matter, every centimeter matters. For example, if a cabinet or any other piece of furniture is installed next to a wide closet, you need to carefully consider their placement. In this case, it will not be superfluous to create a design project for the room and already draw a drawing of future furniture based on it.

Naturally, it is necessary to take into account the parameters of the house. But there are other important points. The maximum height of sliding wardrobes is limited by the ceiling, if you decide to choose a “high” model, keep in mind that doors are not recommended to be made higher than 2.5 m, maximum - 2.65 m. The uncovered part either remains open or is equipped with additional doors. If a stretch ceiling is installed in the room, then there must be a distance of at least 50 centimeters between it and the upper plane.

Standard

As such, there are no standard sizes for sliding wardrobes. But there are recommendations that you should follow when creating a project:

  • plinth height about 10 cm;
  • the maximum height of the sliding wardrobe is 250 cm, which corresponds to the height of the chipboard sheet. In addition, the ceiling height is often 2.2 - 2.5 meters, so it makes no sense to make furniture higher;
  • furniture width - 300 cm;
  • the total depth is 45 cm, if less, then this will no longer be a standard model. In general, the sliding wardrobe with a depth of 50 cm is considered the most convenient to use;
  • shelf width - no more than 100 cm;
  • the distance between the shelves is 30 cm.

The standard height is directly related to the height of the apartment's ceilings. Such furniture will be relevant in the living room or bedroom - it is roomy, functional, does not take up too much usable space.

Please note that these measurements are conditional, the optimal width, height and depth are determined individually. Each manufacturer has its own concept of furniture standards.

Mini

A small cabinet will fit perfectly into the interior of a small hallway, as a standard product is often large for these rooms. The drawing of the future object is made taking into account the size of the room. You should be aware that there are some restrictions for such lockers:

  • the minimum width is 100 cm. The minimum door size for wardrobes is 45 cm (width). If you make them narrower, the design will not be reliable, the doors may simply fall out. If this value is too large, then you will have to stop at a model with swing doors;
  • sliding wardrobes with a depth of 35 cm are the minimum. You need to understand that the size of the shelf itself will be even smaller - about 25 cm, since compartment doors, according to the standard, have a width of 10 cm. If the cabinet is 30 cm deep, 20 cm remains on the shelves - which is inconvenient and impractical.
  • the maximum height of the mini design has no restrictions, it can be both low options and ceiling-mounted products with mezzanines.

The minimum depth of the wardrobe can be less than 35 centimeters. But most often wardrobes with a depth of 35 cm are created for specific needs.

Maxi

Sliding wardrobes of large sizes are usually installed in spacious rooms - bedrooms or living rooms. Also, such designs are great for dressing rooms. As in the issue with mini, maxi sizes also have certain limitations:

  • if the minimum depth is 35 cm, then the maximum is 90 cm. It should be understood that a cabinet with a deeper shelf will be inconvenient to use, because the average arm length of an adult is 60 cm. The most comfortable is a wardrobe with a depth of 50 cm;
  • the height of the structure is limited by the size of a standard chipboard sheet - 278 cm. if it is necessary to increase the height, mezzanines are added to the project. At the same time, it is also desirable to make the doors double, separating the upper shelves from the main department;
  • the width of the closet is also limited by the size of the chipboard sheet. To increase it, partitions are added to the drawing. In this case, the finished structure will consist of two or more modules;
  • door design also has certain limitations - the length of the guides cannot be more than 5 m, taking into account the width of the door itself up to 1 m.

In the manufacture of custom-made furniture, a drawing plays an important role - if mistakes are made during its development, then a wardrobe with a depth of 50 cm or any other will be of poor quality or completely unusable.

Non-standard models

A coupe model with dimensions that differ from the standards is considered non-standard. In order to create a design drawing that will fit perfectly into the room, it is recommended to initially draw up an accurate diagram. Such a tactic will help to avoid mistakes, because the manufacture of cabinet furniture to order is associated with tangible financial costs. Thanks to the use of modern technologies, specialists can realize sketches in 3D format. This allows the customer to see the final result in the photo in order to make changes if necessary.

Sliding wardrobe up to 45 cm deep also belongs to the category of non-standard. This category also includes cabinet or built-in furniture of large sizes - a sliding wardrobe with a depth of 50 cm or more. For the manufacture of non-standard models, the use of special materials is not required. But, if the depth of the closet is 40 cm or more, and the height is more than 150 centimeters or more, it must necessarily have additional supports.

What you should pay attention to when choosing a model of future furniture of a non-standard size:

  • doors from 1 m and more carry an increased load on the roller system, which can cause its rapid breakdown. The maximum allowable width is 1.3 m;
  • a sliding wardrobe with a depth of 40 cm or more, with doors with a width of 100 cm or more, must be equipped with additional pairs of rollers;
  • the higher the product, the greater the thickness of the chipboard sheet should be.

Door dimensions, taking into account their number

The name of the furniture itself provides for the use of sliding doors, consisting of at least two leaves. The sashes are fixed and set in motion thanks to the installation of a special mechanism. At the design stage, it is important to correctly calculate how much space in the closet doors will take up. Contact of shelves and doors is not allowed.

According to the standard, 10 cm are left for installing compartment doors. Based on this, the width of shelves, baskets and other things should be 10 cm less than the total width.

The width of the wings ranges from 45 to 100 centimeters. The number of sashes depends on the total width and internal content. For example, drawers and baskets for cabinets are small in size, so a standard door of 50-60 cm will be enough for such a department. But in the department with clothes rails, you can increase the width of the sash.

Filling elements

The comfort of using cabinet or built-in furniture directly depends on how well the interior space is planned. It is especially important to think over everything in advance if it is planned to store not only clothes, but also shoes, books, bedding, and small household appliances in a new interior object. Let's pay attention to the most important points of planning:

  • mezzanines - ceiling shelves are suitable for storing things that are rarely used. For example, tents, roller skates, skates, out-of-season clothes and shoes;
  • wide shelves - it is convenient to place on them overall items that are often needed - pillows, blankets, appliances. But for clothes it is better to make low and narrow cells - this will make it easier to find the right thing, and it will be more convenient to fold things;
  • open side shelves - this element fits perfectly into the concept of corner structures. On such surfaces, you can store photos, albums, various trifles, which should always be at hand. When ordering furniture for a children's room, you should leave several shelves open - there the child can store books and toys;
  • drawers - their size and number depends on the needs of the customer. Pay attention to the height of the location - do not place them too high or low. The optimal height for placing drawers is 1.2 m from the floor level;
  • rods for clothes - for outerwear and trousers, it is recommended to install a rack at a height of 150 cm, for shirts and blouses, a distance of 110 cm is sufficient;
  • trousers - people who prefer a classic style of clothing will appreciate the advantages of this compartment. Installing a trouser rack will allow you to store your trousers in perfect condition;
  • compartment for shoes - represents the lower open shelves. Mesh baskets make storing shoes more convenient. Mesh baskets can be used to store not only shoes, but also various little things.

Interior renovation is always a pleasant event. Especially if you think over the project in advance and approach the process responsibly. Evaluate photos, consult with experts, compare opinions and boldly implement your design ideas!

Built-in cabinet furniture helps to make the most efficient use of the useful areas of apartments without littering the open spaces with things. For example, a small sliding wardrobe installed in the hallway can easily accommodate off-season clothes and shoes, voluminous winter accessories and household chemicals. At the same time, miniature furniture does not litter the room, leaving enough space for a small family.

Small-sized sliding wardrobes have a lot of advantages, the main ones are:

  • affordability - most modern cabinet furniture is made of chipboard, which is durable and inexpensive. Depending on the wishes of the owners of the dwelling, various methods of decorating cabinet furniture are selected;
  • structural stability - as a rule, sliding wardrobes do not have legs and rely on a long chipboard base. Therefore, there is no need to carefully level the floors of the room so that the piece of furniture stands exactly;
  • at the request of customers, the side elements are built into the walls of the living space. This modification is used for corner wardrobes, often blocking off the floor-to-ceiling storage area with two wide doors;
  • compactness of the storage system - when there is not enough space, multi-level storage systems decorated with a glass door are installed in the living room. In order to make the best use of free space, all the internal content is made up of baskets, hangers, brackets and stands for things;
  • the appearance of such wardrobes is limited only by the imagination of the owners, and their functionality is many times greater than conventional modifications;
  • sliding doors - the main difference between the furniture, which gave it its name, is high doors made of solid canvas (chipboard, glass or mirror), conveniently opening and closing with the help of guides installed along the upper and lower edges. When opening and closing the cabinet, there is no “blind zone” necessary for access to the things stored there. Therefore, such interior solutions are often installed in the corners of rooms near interior doors and windows with inward-opening sashes.

Often a small sliding wardrobe is complemented by a mirror, rounded side sections with shelves, lighting and decorative stickers. Decor elements are also inexpensive and easy to install, so the original design project does not increase the price of furniture many times over.

The built-in modification involves fixing the rails on the wall and ceiling of the living space and installing the door to the height of the room. Thus, there is a serious saving on materials for the cabinet. This allows you not to save on internal filling, decorative elements, which give the room style. The market also presents expensive interior solutions made of natural materials that require special care and serious financial investments.

Such structures also have disadvantages, including:

  • massiveness - high requirements for the stability of storage furniture make manufacturers neglect decorative elements and elegance of forms in favor of practicality and reliability. For example, the solid construction of a sliding wardrobe is simple, if not boring. Parallel boards, closely adjacent to the floor, walls, look quite heavy. A compact modular system with sliding doors will fit all the necessary things and save space, but visually it will look quite impressive;
  • rapid wear of load-bearing structures - as a rule, the doors of such a cabinet are made out of an aluminum profile. This material is quite soft, so it can deform over time, injuring other elements of the supporting structure. The installation of more wear-resistant profiles will require serious financial investments for the installation of additional fasteners;
  • alternate access to different parts of the cabinet - unlike standard storage furniture with hinged doors, sliding wardrobes open one by one, so part of the space is always closed for review. The solution to the problem is the installation of an internal lighting system or narrower glass doors that do not block a large area of \u200b\u200bthe cabinet;
  • regular maintenance of load-bearing structures - the operability of the moving parts of this type of furniture is ensured by guide structures, so it is necessary to regularly monitor their serviceability and cleanliness. A large area of aluminum profiles is quickly clogged with dirt, so the hostess receives an additional amount of household work.

Despite these disadvantages, with regular maintenance, a small sliding wardrobe will become an interior decoration, and will also save a lot of living space by organizing a compact and accessible place to store the necessary things.

Kinds

A consistent approach to the purchase of furniture guarantees a practical, useful purchase in everyday life. According to the needs of the family, the desired materials, as well as the available budget, there are several types of cabinets with sliding doors.

According to the material of manufacture

Taking into account the material of manufacture of the structure, there are:

  • a budget option for such an interior solution is a sliding wardrobe made of chipboard panels. Lightweight and affordable panels made of wood chips, carefully impregnated with glue, are the best solution for installing a closet in a small room. In terms of strength and functional features, particle boards cannot compete with more expensive materials. Chipboard is subject to mechanical and thermal stress, and can also release toxins during prolonged exposure to the sun;
  • a more aesthetic, durable and expensive option is MDF trim. This material is a thin fiber of wood, compressed under high temperature and pressure. The external characteristics of MDF are not much better than chipboard, but this material is more durable and is not affected by moisture and temperature changes;
  • natural wood trim. As a rule, the use of natural materials looks very aesthetically pleasing and emphasizes the high social status of the owners of the dwelling. On the other hand, the price and weight of such materials stop most people. Natural wood not only requires careful processing and ordering from reputable specialists, but also subsequent careful maintenance. Not every hostess is ready for such labor costs.

Wooden

By shape

Small cabinets can vary in their shape:

  • classic rectangular designs with a straight rail running along the wall. The simple form involves heavy investment in decorative elements so that the furniture does not look primitive. Such a modification of furniture occupies the central part of the living space, most often decorated with mirrors, sandblasting or wood inlay;
  • minimalist corner designs - the smallest modification of the sliding wardrobe is a wide door that encloses part of the corner of the storage room. Such sliding wardrobes will decorate an apartment of modest size. If the living space allows it, then you can complement the classic diagonal cabinet with two rectangular modules. In this case, there will be more storage space, and the corner with furniture will take on a finished look;
  • radius modifications - when creating such models of furniture for storage, guides and doors are made to order. As a rule, individual door designs are used: convex, concave, combined, round, oval. The cost of such cabinets no longer belongs to the budget segment, but the choice of finishing materials is much higher.

Rectangular

Radius

By location

Depending on the location of the structure, there are:

  • free-standing structures of small size - this option can be easily installed anywhere in the living room, it does not need to be dismantled when carrying out repairs in the room. In fact, free-standing models are similar in their properties to free-standing furniture, the difference is only in the door modification;
  • built-in structures - this type requires minimal space in living space. In fact, it only occupies the space needed for a flat sliding door mechanism. The only significant drawback of this design for storage is the inability to move it during repairs or moving. On the other hand, the reassembly of already finished furniture in any case weakens the fastening mechanisms, so the furniture may lose its operational properties after moving.

built-in

Standing separately

Dimensions and content

The classic filling of furniture for storage is brackets for long-sleeved clothes on hangers, as well as horizontal drawers. This type of filling will cost a small amount, but will allow you to comfortably accommodate a small amount of clothing.

The standard modification is a wardrobe with a length of 1800 mm and a height of 2400 mm, the filling includes drawers, wide open corner shelves, as well as sections for placing shoes.

A small modular storage system that complements cabinets of modest length (from 1200 to 1300 mm) and low height (2000 mm) - unlike the first option, these systems take up less free space. For example, pull-out baskets, brackets, drawers, located at a minimum distance from each other, easily accommodate non-standard bulky items. Thus, even in a small section, artificial Christmas trees, bicycles, vacuum cleaners fit.

Selection rules

Since built-in cabinet furniture is most often made to order, for a successful choice, you should independently determine the technical characteristics. Going to a sales consultant with clear characteristics, it is easier to choose the best furniture. What to consider when choosing:

  • dimensions - for use in small rooms, it is best to stop at tall narrow models that visually look miniature and do not “take up” extra space. When taking measurements, it is recommended to add about 5 cm to the obtained dimensions on each side so that the installation work does not damage the external surfaces;
  • storage system - a dense modular system of drawers, baskets, and brackets - the best solution for elegant furniture of modest size. For example, a diagonal corner cabinet with wire containers will be a good replacement for a finished cabinet hallway;
  • exterior finish - the choice of finishing materials and decorative designs should fit into the overall interior of the room, and also do not require special care. Therefore, it is recommended to use MDF, chipboard or plastic panels;
  • the size and number of mirrors - the presence of a mirror surface built into the furniture will visually expand the space, but will require additional care. To reduce the level of pollution, it is recommended to place mirror panels above waist level.
