Assembly of a fence from a welded grid. Do-it-yourself welded mesh fence

Welded mesh for a fence is one of the types of material for fencing a land allotment. Its external characteristics are simple, but the design is more durable than a chain-link. In addition, you can do the installation yourself, as the material is quite lifting.

What are the types of grid

Welded mesh fencing can have different mesh sizes, wires and overall section dimensions. There are several types of wire, and the method of making the mesh also varies.

Main settings

The strength of the canvas is determined by two characteristics: the dimensions of the cage, the diameter of the wire. The smaller the cell of the mesh material, the stronger the fence will be. But the material with such parameters costs more. Standard cage: 50x50 mm, 100x100 mm (the most common), as well as 150x150 mm, 200x200 mm. The metal mesh can be light or heavy depending on the thickness of the wire.

In the first case, the diameter varies between 3-6 mm. Heavy fences are erected using mesh material with a wire thickness of 8 to 40 mm. Section dimensions (standard dimensions): 1000x2000 mm, 1500x3000 mm, 2000x3000 mm.

Mesh types

There are several types of mesh material made by resistance welding:

  • Non-galvanized - uncoated, made using black steel wire;
  • Galvanized - during production, wire without special protection or galvanized material is used, respectively, in the first case, an anti-corrosion coating is applied after the fabric is made;
  • Polymer mesh - the finished structure is coated with polymers, both galvanized and non-galvanized wire can be used as a base.

The scope of these varieties: strengthening the roadway and other structures, wall decoration, construction of fences. The polymer mesh has proven itself well in domestic conditions - fences are erected with its help.

The best characteristics of the galvanized material with a polymer coating: sectional fence will last longer due to double protection against corrosion, and it is more attractive in appearance.

Positive qualities of a welded mesh fence

It is necessary to highlight the light transmission capacity of the structure. This feature allows you to set up a garden or vegetable garden next to the fence, as the grid eliminates the possibility of shading the area. Do-it-yourself fence installation is faster and easier than most other analogues (made of decorative brick, natural stone). And the cost of the fence is lower.

The main stages of the construction of the fence

A welded mesh fence is built using the following materials: sections of the fence cloth; metal poles with embedded parts, but they can also be fixed with your own hands using a welding machine; concrete mortar.

Scheme of a sectional fence made of welded mesh

Main tool: welding machine, screwdriver (if the sections will be attached to the poles by means of a threaded connection), tape measure, building level, shovel / hand drill.

Step 1: Marking work

A fence made of welded mesh, as well as any other fence, requires preparatory work: cleaning the territory, checking the difference in the levels of the soil surface, marking.

The construction of the fence begins with the markup. To create the desired line, pegs, rope and tape measure are used.

First of all, you should outline the line of the fence. To do this, stakes are driven into the corners with their own hands, between which a rope is stretched. Next, you need to determine the location of the fence posts. They are located at a distance that is 15-20 cm more than the length of the section. The stock is allocated for embedded parts, through which the fence is attached.

Step 2: Installation of support legs

A welded mesh fence is usually erected using metal poles. They are strong enough to withstand the construction of a section made of frame and mesh. In addition, in most cases, the fastening of the fence cloth is carried out by welding. Another caveat: a metal fence lasts much longer. And if the wooden posts fail, you will have to repair the fence ahead of time.

For the preparation of cement mortar, one part of cement, one part of water and three parts of sand are used.

A sufficient section of the pillars for a web of wire 3-5 mm thick is 60x60 mm. The depth of the pits for the support posts is determined on the basis of data on the structure of the soil and the depth of its freezing. On average, for a mesh fence, a columnar foundation is set up 0.8-1 m deep.

It is important that the support be buried to a level equal to a third of its length. Pits are dug with a shovel, but you can use a hand drill. This will speed up the work. The diameter of the holes in the soil should be several centimeters larger than the posts.

Fences made of welded mesh are often installed by the method of complete concreting of supports. This further strengthens the structure. For the manufacture of the solution, sand, cement (3: 1) are used. Then the hole is poured with a cement mixture with their own hands, a pole is installed there and leveled. Spacers are used to fix the support. After a few days, you can continue building the fence.

Step 3: Fence fastening

The use of rolled mesh requires the use of special clamps or staples. In this case, a solid fence is attached. If you plan to use a stronger mesh, prepare a frame made of a corner or a profile pipe.

Fasteners of 4 pieces are installed on each post, with which the grid is attached.

The main material is welded to it with their own hands. The finished section is attached to embedded parts using a welding machine or by using a threaded connection (bolts, nuts).

The use of galvanized mesh does not require coating with paints and varnishes. But if the section is made by hand, the protective coating can be damaged during welding. Then it is necessary to provide additional protection with paintwork materials.

The use of welded roll mesh involves two solutions: do-it-yourself cutting of the material for the manufacture of sections; installation of a fence cloth using clamps, while cutting it is not necessary.

If galvanized mesh is used for the second option, then the installation process will take less time, since there is no need to prepare sections. But in this case, the fence will lose its strength.

But the thicker the wire used in the production of the material, the stronger the structure will be. The dimensions of the cells of the roll mesh are also responsible for this quality.

The company "Vash Zabor" specializes in the manufacture of a variety of fences for objects for various purposes, including country estates and summer cottages. Our masters will promptly produce and qualitatively install any type. The requirements of different categories of customers for a dacha fence are often very different - it is very important for someone that it be pretentious and pompous and correspond to a mansion made in the old style and surrounded by even lawns. Other clients prioritize such fencing type selection criteria as practicality, functionality and low cost. We can recommend fences made of welded mesh, economical, durable and easy to install.

Sectional fences of this type have other advantages - they are durable, not susceptible to aggressive environmental influences, they have a small weight, which ensures ease of transportation to the installation site. Mesh sections, unlike high solid fences, freely let in the sun's rays, which is very important if the suburban area is used not only for recreation, but also for growing horticultural crops. In addition, welded mesh fences can be easily repaired or replaced with a new segment if damage and defects appear.

Types of welded meshes used in the construction of country fences

Welded metal mesh is made from wire of various sections by spot welding. The cells of such a grid can have different sizes and shapes. The mesh surface is coated with a layer of polymer or simply zinc coating, reliably protecting it from corrosion.

According to the type of protective coating, welded meshes are:

  • polymeric with the application of a polyvinyl chloride coating by immersing the mesh in a dye solution or by powder coating in special cabinets;
  • galvanized with a protective layer applied either to the wire or to the finished mesh;
  • having double protection - both galvanized and polymer layer.

Installation of fences from a welded mesh

Masters of the company "Vash Zabor" in a short time mount fences made of welded mesh of sectional type in areas of any complexity, including on slopes. The perimeter of the fenced area is marked out and holes are dug or small wells are drilled at the places where the pillars are installed. The columns are installed in prepared pits and concreted. In this case, it is necessary to ensure that the holes for the pillars should be at least 2 times wider than the cross section of the support. Their depth is usually 0.6 meters.

The solution hardens for about a day, after which sections of the fence are attached to the posts. A cheaper version of welded mesh fencing is rolled, in which the mesh is stretched using a special device for this. A well-mounted fence made of welded metal mesh looks attractive and easily fits into any style of a country or country estate.

Are you planning to make a fence from a welded mesh with your own hands for a summer residence or a private house? You need to know some of the features and rules for installing this design.

Despite the low cost, the welded mesh fence is durable and provides good protection against penetration.

How to choose a welded mesh for mounting a fence

So, you started in the country or your land and are inclined in favor of this material. This fence is a great option for both home and garden. But first, you should make a choice of material, since the welded mesh for the fence can be different. The quality of the design depends on the specific type.

The sectional fence made of welded mesh is lightweight, durable, and resistant to various adverse weather conditions.

  • Non-galvanized mesh. This is the simplest and least expensive material. This mesh is made of steel. The diameter of the rods is approximately from 1.2 to 5-7 mm. But the lack of coverage is a vulnerability to negative external factors.
  • Galvanized mesh. A layer of zinc is applied to the steel elements. Do this either before welding or after it. If you started a not too expensive construction of such a fence for a summer house or a house with your own hands and count on the durability of the structure, then this option is optimal.
  • Polymer coated mesh is protected from corrosion and other factors.
  • Polymer coated galvanized mesh is the most durable, strong and high-quality option. But the price of such a fence will be higher.

Installation of a fence of their welded mesh: tools and main steps

If you decide to install a mesh fence for a summer residence or at home, then first of all, stock up on all the necessary tools, materials and fixtures.

So, you will need:

The pillars should be located at the same distance from each other, and it is also desirable to have the same height.

  • metal poles for the frame;
  • fasteners for poles (pole bases, connecting clips, brackets with nuts and bolts or U-shaped clamps);
  • screwdriver;
  • concrete or cement mixture for the foundation of each pillar;
  • rope;
  • roulette;
  • pegs;
  • building level;
  • drill or bayonet shovel for digging holes for poles;
  • sand;
  • cement composition;
  • water.

Installation sequence.

The installation of any fence begins with marking and setting out the fence line in nature with the help of pegs, rope and tape measure. To install the poles, you will need a professional level.

  1. Where to start building? The first of the welded mesh is markings. Use pegs and a rope for this (and first outline the perimeter, indicating the location of the fence). You need to measure the distance between the holes with a tape measure. The distance from one pillar to another will be equal to the width of one sheet, but you need to take into account the diameter of the pillar and the margin for the foundation. For example, with a cut width of 2 m and a pole diameter of 10 cm, measure the distance between the supports, which is 2.15-2.20 m.
  2. We continue the construction of a fence from a welded mesh with our own hands. Now you can start digging holes. Their diameter should be 1-3 cm larger than the diameter of the column (taking into account the concrete or cement base-foundation). It is most convenient to do this with a drill, but if it is not available, a bayonet shovel will do. The depth of one hole should be about a quarter of the length of the post. But consider the depth of soil freezing (the larger it is, the deeper the pits will be). Usually the pillars have a height of 2 m. In central Russia, winters are very severe. it turns out that 10-20 cm should be added to 50 cm (a quarter of the height of the support). This will be the depth of one hole.
  3. Now you can proceed to the installation of support pillars. Pour cement mortar into the pit. To prepare it, mix one part water with one part cement and three parts sand. Then insert the post (some put it in a special base). Level it with a level (hang it from the top of the post and make sure the level is exactly perpendicular to the ground and parallel to the support), secure it with spacers and leave it to set the base.
  4. After about a day (this is the time it takes for the foundation to solidify), you can proceed with the installation of the grid. It can be installed using special fasteners (brackets, clips, and so on) or using U-shaped clamps. Use a screwdriver for fastening. It is better to fix the mesh in two places of support, and for greater strength even in three. If you do not cut the mesh into sheets, but fasten it with a roll, then use staples for this. Pay special attention to fasteners, because the durability and strength of the structure depend on it.
  5. Completes the construction of the fence with his own hands painting it, although it is optional.

When constructing a barrier, it is not always possible to use materials that have a monolithic surface. This most often applies to situations where it is necessary to distinguish between adjacent garden plots where various plants are grown. In this case, it is most advisable to build a fence from a welded mesh with your own hands. Such a construction will save the neighboring and own territories from shading and will not interfere with the full development of plants, thereby causing dissatisfaction with people living in the neighborhood.

Material selection

First of all, you need to choose from what type of material the fence from the welded mesh will be made. There are four main options that differ from each other in coverage.

Mesh without coating

It is usually sold in rolls and is cheap. Its use will be appropriate among bushes, since the surface of this fence will rust very quickly. Painting will be economically inexpedient and time consuming. On the other hand, if there is dense vegetation on the border of the plots, and it is necessary to protect yourself, mainly from migrating animals, then this option is quite acceptable.

galvanized mesh

Perhaps the most practical will be just such a material. It is not much more expensive than the first one, and taking into account the total price of the entire structure, the difference will be about 10%. After all, the price of the structure includes poles, hardware and components for concreting supports.

Galvanized painted mesh

Its coating is applied according to the same principle as on corrugated board. First, the product is galvanized, and on top it is also painted. This is a very durable cover. The only thing it is afraid of is abrasive exposure. Rains and irrigation of the garden lead to regular spraying of the soil-containing substance, which leads to the abrasion of the protective layer and subsequent corrosion. Therefore, it is recommended to fix such material slightly above the ground surface, and if necessary, seal the lower space, you can use the construction of a concrete or other base.

Polymer coated mesh

This type of protection is the most expensive, but also the most effective. It is resistant not only to temperature effects, but also to friction. In the most viewed areas, it is worth using this option, since it has a beautiful appearance and will allow you to isolate the territory along the entire required height without additional costs.

In addition to the fact that the material differs in the type of coating, it may also differ in the method of execution, which happens:

  • Welded flat mesh
  • Welded mesh 3d for fence

The last name is produced by specialized enterprises, which, as a set for this name, supply special poles and fasteners to create an aesthetic and reliable barrier.

Preparation of tools and material for the fence

After the welded mesh for the fence is selected, you can proceed to the preparatory work, one of the stages of which is to equip the contractor with the necessary tools. This is an important stage, since the inability to carry out this or that operation will greatly slow down the construction, and the material prepared and laid out on the site will interfere. Therefore, it is best if all the necessary components are already purchased and delivered to the construction site. Here's what will be needed:

Instruments

Surely everyone assumes that you will definitely need basic tools, such as:

  • Level
  • Pegs
  • Roulette

Digging tool

Any means for digging holes that can be found on the farm will do. Yamobur can be used both manual and electric. Of the shovels, the “American” will be the most convenient, since it has a curved end, and this is very convenient when digging holes for poles.

Container for mixing solution

  • Concrete mixer (if any)
  • Trough with chopper or shovel (optional)

Mesh mounting tools

  • Welding machine (if fasteners will be used with it)
  • Drill
  • screwdriver
  • Screwdriver
  • Bulgarian
  • A piece of reinforcement or a thin pipe for stretching the mesh

materials

Let's figure out what materials will be needed to install a welded mesh fence and decide on their choice.

pillars

As pillars, it is best to use round or profile pipes with a diameter of 40-150 mm. The use of concrete or wooden supports is acceptable. In the latter case, it would be better to carry out a protective treatment of wood.

Cross jumpers

To create additional rigidity for the mesh coating, you can use a thick wire threaded through the mesh. Also, spans can be attached to pipes or fittings attached between the pillars in their upper and lower parts. You can not do this if the supports are often installed, and the mesh has sufficient rigidity.

Wire can be used up to 5 mm. Reinforcement or pipe for rigid fastening is recommended to be used from 10 mm.

Fasteners

To attach the grid, you can use:

  • Bolt-hooks (the best option)
  • self-tapping screws
  • metal plates
  • U-shaped clamps
  • Clamps with bolts and nuts

Support concreting materials

  • Cement
  • Sand
  • Rubble stone, slag or crushed stone

Fence installation

Like any other type of fencing, a welded mesh metal fence must be started in stages.

Plot marking

With this procedure, it is necessary to take into account, first of all, the distance between the future supports. It depends on their height, the thickness of the selected material, the parameters of the material that will close the spans.

The recommended distance in such cases is usually 2-3 meters. More frequent arrangement of racks will entail additional consumption of material for them, a greater distance will require the use of transverse stiffeners, which will have to save the mesh from sagging. When marking, it is necessary to take into account the dimensions of the rolls or finished sections of the mesh, as well as the dimensions of the entire area. All these values \u200b\u200bneed to be compared and plan the distance between the supports in such a way that the joints of the fence cover fall on the surface of the racks.

Pole installation

To do this, you need to dig or drill holes in the marking places. Depth can be 0.7-1.2 meters. It depends on the size of the racks and the density of the soil. It is also worth considering the landscape of the earth's surface. On the slopes the depth of the pits needs to be done more. This is not only necessary, because in such places the soil tends to slide, but also because streams of water flow along the inclined surfaces when it rains. This leads to a softening of the soil and a decrease in its ability to hold objects fixed in it.

After the pits are ready, prepared supports are installed in them and concreted. At the same time, it is necessary to strengthen the installed racks with wedges in order to avoid the appearance of a roll during the pouring and drying of concrete.

Mesh installation

Installation is best done no less than 7-10 days after the concreting of the supports. It is during this time that the cement composition will gain the required assembly strength. Although many masters install the grid the very next day, this is not the best option.

If transverse pipes are involved in the fastening, then they must be immediately welded or attached with self-tapping screws. It is better if these stiffeners are placed between the sides of the racks that look at each other. With a carefully selected size of the jumpers, they will act as spacers and protect the supports from convergence under the influence of mesh tension.

When used against sagging wire, it is threaded after hanging the net, but before tensioning.

The diagram below shows various options for fastening a welded mesh with clamps.

The mesh covering of the fence can be fixed in several ways:

  • Welding
  • With clamps
  • By hanging on hooks
  • Self-tapping screws and pressure plates

It is important that when attaching the mesh to produce its timely tension. If the installation is carried out on hooks or self-tapping screws with plates, then first you just need to hang the material on them, and then perform a uniform tightening.

When welding fastening, it is necessary to stretch the mesh immediately until the final fixing. You need to stretch the material with a vertical pipe or fittings threaded into it, which were mentioned above. There must be at least two people involved in this process. One produces tension, the other at this time fastens the mesh to the post. The use of a vertical rigid rod is due to the need to produce uniform tension over the entire height, which will be very problematic to do by hand.

Now it remains only to decide on the method of attaching the grid and begin installation

Final actions

After hanging the mesh cover, you need to check the level of all racks, paint the fastening joints (if necessary), poles, transverse pipes or stretched wire.

With proper preparation, a sectional fence made of welded mesh can be built by anyone with minimal training at home master. There are several recommendations, following which will help to get the best result:

  1. It is important at all stages to monitor the level of the installed pillars and not to apply excessive force when pulling the mesh.
  2. Before painting, any metal surfaces should be carefully cleaned with sandpaper, degreased with a solvent and primed. This will ensure the durability of the paint and save you from additional costs in the future.
  3. If a concrete plinth is planned under the main fence, then it must be done together with the concreting of the pillars.
  4. For any work with cutting and welding mechanisms, you should not forget about your own safety measures and use protective equipment and clothing.

Photo of welded fences

We have selected interesting photos of welded mesh fences. Please note that, nevertheless, the installation and installation of this type of fence is quite simple and budgetary. Therefore, this type of fence is more suitable for summer cottages.

Installing a fence made of welded mesh allows you to solve several important problems at once. Such a fence designates and clearly fixes the boundaries of a certain territory, and also prevents unauthorized persons from entering it.

1

Nowadays, there are many building materials with which you can make a fence for a suburban area and a private house. Some materials are characterized by durability and reliability, others - excellent decorative performance. But the fence made of welded mesh combines these qualities. Such a fence looks attractive and has good strength properties.

Welded masonry mesh

Welded mesh is made from different cross-sections. The latter is woven at right angles into a single fabric. In this case, the sections of wire weaves are connected by spot welding. The mesh we are interested in creating fences is of the following types:

  1. Non-galvanized - the cheapest and simplest. Such a mesh is made of steel wire with a cross section of 1.2–10 mm. Finished products are not treated with any additional protective materials, so their service life is not very long. A few years after the installation of fences made of non-galvanized mesh, they lose their original appearance under the influence of precipitation and other external negative factors.
  2. Galvanized - more durable and high quality. The grid from galvanized steel becomes covered with a zinc layer. Such an operation improves the protective characteristics of welded products. Treatment of metal with zinc is carried out by hot or by electrolytic method. Structures made of galvanized welded mesh - the best option for summer cottage construction. The cost of their construction is low, and the quality of the resulting fence is at a high level.
  3. Coated with PVC. This one is very durable. It is perfectly protected against corrosion, due to which PVC-coated material fences do not lose their attractiveness over the years. In most cases, such products are green in color. A protective coating is applied to products only after they have been welded.

There is also a mesh with a double coating (a layer of polyvinyl chloride and zinc). Fences from such products are usually not made, since this material has a high cost.

2

Modern industry offers, as you can see, a huge selection of welded meshes for every taste and budget. In addition, the consumer can choose the shape of wire products. They are made in the form of rolls with different geometric parameters (length, width, cell size) and in the form of sections (panels). The latter, in fact, are completely ready-to-install modules. Any home master can install such sections in a short time and with a minimum of physical effort.

wire fence

In general, the welded mesh is characterized by the following key advantages:

  • high reliability and operational durability.
  • the speed and ease of installation work (it is really easy to install wire fences with your own hands);
  • environmental safety;
  • excellent rigidity (during operation, fences made of different types of welded mesh do not bend or sag);
  • good anti-corrosion properties (the only exceptions are fences made of non-galvanized material);
  • optimal ratio of the cost of welded products and their quality;
  • relatively small weight;
  • excellent decorative effect and a large selection of color shades.

In addition, a fence of any length and height from a welded mesh requires minimal maintenance. And most importantly - such fences let in sunlight, which is very important for the vegetation available on your suburban area. Specialists in the field of landscape design appreciate sectional structures and fences made of rolled welded mesh also because they do not spoil the natural landscape. By and large, modern wire fences are small architectural forms that can be organically fit into any space.

3

Installation of a reliable and durable fence made of welded mesh is carried out using available materials and tools. Stock up on metal posts (they are needed to create the frame of the building envelope) and fasteners for them (clamps, brackets with bolts and nuts, special clips), cement or concrete mortar for arranging the foundation for the posts, pegs, tape measure, marking cord (rope), screwdriver, bayonet shovel or drill, building level, sand.

Installed mesh fence

Start work by marking the area where you decide to install a fence. Outline the perimeter, fix it using a cord, tape measure and wooden pegs. Then mark the places where you will put the support posts. The distance between them should be equal to the width of one section of the grid. In this case, it is required to add another 15–20 cm of length to the section of the support itself. That is, if one span of the fence is 200 cm, the posts should be 210–220 cm apart from each other. The next step is to dig holes to install the posts. The diameter of such mini-pits should be a couple of centimeters larger than the cross section of the metal supports used. Pits are easiest to make with a drill.

If not, a regular bayonet shovel will do. The depth of the pits should be equal to a quarter (a little more or a little less) of the length of the installed support element. The depth of the holes should be increased in cases where the soil on the site freezes heavily in winter. Pour a mixture of cement (1 part), sand (3 parts) and water into the dug holes. Install the support in this solution, carefully align the post using the building level. After that put spacers. And patiently wait for the cement mortar to harden. This usually takes about 24-36 hours.

4

Installation of the mesh (or finished welded sections) is carried out after the foundation has solidified under all metal pillars. On the supports, the wire product is hung on U-shaped clamps, on clips or brackets that are attached to the posts. You will not have problems with performing such an operation if you fasten the hardware with a screwdriver. It is best to fix the grid in three places of the column (it is possible in two, but then the strength of the structure under adverse weather conditions will not be of the highest quality). Staples are usually used in cases where the mesh is mounted in rolls.

Installation of a mesh fence

If your budget for installing a mesh fence is not limited, buy sectional wire fences right away. They are usually sold as a set, which includes the panels themselves, support poles and fasteners. Installation of such kits will be really quick and easy. Finally, I would like to give home craftsmen some useful tips. Take them into account, and then the whole process of arranging the fence will not cause you the slightest problem. First, try to schedule a fence installation event for spring or fall, when the ground will be easy to dig.

Secondly, do not use wooden support posts - they may not withstand the mass of steel wire. Thirdly, fill the holes for the installation of supports with cement mortar separately. They filled one hole, put and leveled the support, proceeded to install the next column. Good luck in building a durable and strong fence!
