Kitchen wall painting. Wall painting in the home interior: picturesque opportunities (56 photos)

The kitchen is a place where the whole family gathers, so it is important to make it so that it is pleasant and comfortable to be in it. The walls occupy the main space of the room - their decoration deserves special attention. An interesting solution would be to apply original drawings or wall painting. They bring uniqueness and harmony, are easy to apply and, if the picture gets bored, you can always change it to another one.

Features and Benefits

The main advantages of creating a mural on the walls:

 • Wide range of colors.

 • Special matting pastes help create relief patterns.

 • There is a wide variety of surfaces suitable for pattern painting.

 • The drawing is permanent. If necessary, you can retouch damaged parts.

 • The drawing can be done by yourself. The stores sell a lot of templates for every taste, but if you want, you can make the interior unique according to your own sketch.

 • No professional skills required. In order to create a stencil drawing, it is not necessary to have artistic abilities. You can use ready-made pictures by transferring them to the wall.

 • If a hole or a chip has formed, then the picture will organically cover this defect, reviving the wall.

 • Huge selection of shapes and types of drawings. Now the range of products offered for wall painting is growing more and more: these are paints, and stencils from various materials, and sketches of drawings, and auxiliary materials for more accurate drawing of details, special pencils, pastes, etc.

 • The ability to choose for any design. Moreover, sometimes the painting itself on the wall sets the style of the kitchen.

Styles

Sometimes it is difficult to choose the style of the future drawing and the entire kitchen room. There are many creative trends that give the kitchen a special charm and create a mood:

 • Flowers and plants. A view of the summer garden or just painting with flowers gives the kitchen a fresh look and visually enlarges it.

 • Abstractionism. Laconic shapes, straight lines and bright colors will look very modern and stylish in the kitchen.

 • Animalism. The image of animals can emphasize the characteristic features of the owner and enliven the kitchen room.

 • Bar theme: juicy fruits, elite drinks, glasses, as well as cups and coffee beans, located on the kitchen wall above the table or bar, look very elegant.

 • Ornaments. This style is suitable for the development of ethnic themes, such as Arabic or Egyptian.

 • Old classic style. Paintings painted in the style of frescoes, landscapes, views of old streets, sea and village themes, still lifes are suitable.

 • Kitchen theme. Cutlery, plates, cups, teapots, images of food - fit perfectly into the interior of the kitchen.

How to apply on your own?

The first thing to do is to choose a wall (or more than one wall) on which to paint. You should thoroughly think over the composition in advance so that all the elements correlate with each other and convey the artistic intent. It is important to pay attention to the parameters of the kitchen room: in a small kitchen, large paintings will “press”, and small drawings in a large room will be lost.

Types of drawing on the wall:

 • By color: monochrome drawing or multicolor;

 • In shape: flat, 3D or stucco.

 • Technique: hand painting, airbrushing, chalk painting, stencils, decoupage.

 • Glowing images.

The most common way to decorate walls is to paint using stencils, templates, stamps or adhesive tape.

What tools you need will depend on the drawing. In order for the work to go quickly, you need to prepare everything you need for work in advance.

 1. Brushes. It is best to take several brushes of different sizes, with different thicknesses of the pile. You can take three brushes: one wide for drawing large elements, a medium one for more detailed coloring and a small one for painting small details and lines.
 2. Stencil. There are templates from different materials. You can buy ready-made or make your own from soft plastic, thick paper or whatman paper.
 3. Pencil. It will be needed in order to apply a preliminary sketch.
 4. Paints. Depending on the chosen picture and the interior, one paint color or several are selected. For kitchen wall painting, you can choose any paint: water-based, acrylic, oil, spray paint, etc. (alkyd and acrylic paints are most suitable for the kitchen, because they do not suffer from moisture). Pay attention to the thickness of the paint: too thick and too liquid can be poorly applied.

Transferring a picture to the wall

Drawing a picture through a stencil has its own technology that helps to apply a picture with high quality. First, you need to properly clean the wall from the old coating (wallpaper, paint, etc.). Then, it would be desirable to prime the wall so that the paint lays down better. Next, the main background of the wall is applied and the stencil itself is prepared.

The pattern and its color must be chosen in accordance with the interior of the kitchen. Do not use pictures with a lot of small details, because they can merge. It is best to apply paint with a foam sponge, and choose a stencil from a dense material (cardboard or plastic) so that the edges do not get wet and spoil the shape.

The second option for how to paint a wall is with a spray can. Here things are even simpler, the main thing is that the stencil fits snugly against the wall and the paint does not go beyond the edges. You can attach it to the wall with masking tape.

Stamps - one of the ways, along with stencils, is great for quickly painting walls. It is easy to work with them - the stamp is dipped in paint and applied to the wall. It is important to ensure that the paint is evenly distributed. You can complement the main ornament with interesting details, contours.

Volumetric drawing. A beautiful embossed pattern will become an indispensable decoration, especially if it is made by hand.

Stages of work:

 1. Training. Be sure to remove old wallpaper, paint or other coatings. Then, if necessary, level and plaster.
 2. Wall primer. A fully primed wall is covered with a basic tone.
 3. The next step is a sketch. It is better to start with large parts, gradually moving to small ones that are drawn on top of the rest. You can draw directly on the wall with a pencil or translate through a template.
 4. Then the main thick mass is applied. There are many devices with which this can be done - ranging from a simple spatula, ending with spatulas and needles, for cutting through small parts.
 5. The last step is coloring. Here you can add a difference in shadows and color tones.

modeling

There are many different compositions and mixtures for figure modeling: acrylic pastes (these include gels, latex, crystal paste). The use of gypsum compositions is quite popular, and liquid wallpaper is also used.

Required tools:

 • palette knives are used to form small elements;
 • ordinary paint spatulas are convenient to use if you work with stencils;
 • brushes help to smooth out roughness and uneven places.

You can break the sculpting process into two parts: first, apply the base layer, and attach ready-made elements and parts to it.

The easiest way to create such patterns is to apply them with a spatula and a stencil. A template is attached to the wall, the mixture is applied with a spatula, after waiting for drying, the stencil is removed and the composition is ready - you can start painting.

stickers

The best solution for those who do not want to mess with paints is to use stickers. Interior stickers remain intact for a long time, even in the kitchen. A huge number of topics and types of such stickers will allow you to choose a picture for any interior.

Advantages:

 • stickers allow you to quickly create an interior without fussing with paints and putties.

 • stickers are made from a special moisture-resistant material, so they are unpretentious in care and can be used in wet rooms;

 • the price for them is quite democratic, so you can change it often, as soon as you get tired of the old design;

 • working with them is easy and simple: cut out and pasted, as needed according to the artist's plan;

 • combination is a good move when creating a common kitchen style. You can place stickers on different walls, door or furniture, thereby creating a single composition or collage;

 • artistic skills are not required, creative paintings can be created by anyone.

3D drawing

3D drawings are the last word in artistic creativity, they are gaining more and more popularity, because they fill the space with unexpected impressions, they can be placed on the floor, on the walls, and on the ceiling. Using this technique, you can draw textures that come to life (fabric, water, stones, grass), or three-dimensional illusions, or animals that seem to be standing next to each other. Volumetric drawings create an indescribable effect, but drawing such a drawing is not so easy, you need to have a skill for this.

Decoupage

One of the original ways to design and decorate the kitchen is decoupage. First, the wall is properly leveled, after which decoupage parts well smeared with glue are applied to it. The main thing is to iron the elements well so as not to leave bubbles and wrinkles. When the image dries, it is varnished, which repels moisture and protects the drawing from damage.

Dot painting is the most difficult way to hand paint and takes the most time and effort. The Point-to-Point technique requires scrupulousness and accuracy, but a panel created by one's own hands will delight and please the eye for a long time. Of course, you can apply the drawing directly to the wall, but it will be much more convenient to do this on a separate plane. To do this, either ready-made structured wallpapers are used, or you can create an illustration on ordinary wallpaper, and then attach it to the wall.

Even an ardent adherent of the minimalist style refers to the kitchen as a cozy, harmonious and conducive to a pleasant pastime. Let it be in his own way, let him not decorate the walls with flowers, and the curtains with embroidery, but in the concept of almost every one of our compatriots, the kitchen space seems comfortable. And one of the ways to decorate it, to bring a piece of comfort is to paint the walls in the kitchen..

Why is wall painting in the kitchen popular?

This is a great way to not only decorate a barely renovated room, giving it a little bit of uniqueness, but also to update an already worn finish by covering, for example, a chip or a hole in the wall with a picture.

Wall painting in the kitchen photo

If we recall the historical facts, then even primitive people had the desire to decorate their homes - to take the same rock paintings in the caves. Then comes Egypt with its wall frescoes, the Middle Ages with its flourishing church painting. And, of course, luxurious Baroque with its love for lush decorations, including wall and ceiling decorations. The decor of the walls is also relevant in the following epochs - Empire and Modern took the baton. Currently, drawings play an important role in the design of living space. Only now there are much more ways to decorate the interior, and the images themselves have become more advanced (for example, 3D pictures).

Varieties of drawing pictures on the walls

Modern technologies allow you to apply an image using various methods. Even a person who is far from the world of art is able to decorate his kitchen without problems.

What types of decorative painting exist?

 • Color or black and white.
 • Drawing an image using a stencil.
 • With the use of luminous and fluorescent paints.
 • Artistic 3D painting.
 • Volumetric image with the use of modeling.

As you can see, there is a vast field of activity here not only for the pros, but also for a person who is not initiated into the intricacies of drawing - armed with a stencil and paints, you can create incredible beauty on the walls. And the fact that this is done with your own hands will be doubly pleasing.

What paint is suitable for decoration? Since the operating conditions in this room are quite harsh (changes in humidity and temperature make it impossible to use absolutely any finishing material), you should choose water-based, acrylic or alkyd paint to paint the walls in the kitchen with your own hands. If the paint is afraid of moisture and high temperatures, then it cannot be used for decoration. If the drawing is applied, for example, near, then you can use any paint.

What are the benefits of wall painting

The most important advantage is that with the help of this decor you can create a unique interior that no one else has. And for the sake of justice, it’s worth saying that it will not be easy to repeat it in another place exactly to the smallest detail.

You yourself choose the image in accordance with your own worldview and vision of the environment, then transfer it to the surface yourself or with the help of a master.

But this is not the only plus of such a design of the walls. There are other benefits as well.

 1. A wide range of image options - you can choose an image for any style of interior.
 2. With the help of painting, the most ordinary room will turn into a stylish living space.
 3. - thanks to this method of decor, one or another area of the kitchen can be distinguished.
 4. There is a possibility of self-applying. Using the template, it is easy to transfer the picture to the surface.
 5. An interesting way to change the space with the help of 3D painting. This is not only a very attractive and naturalistic decor technique, but also a way to visually change the space - with the help of voluminous artistic wall painting, you can visually increase the area of the room, “push back” the wall and create the effect of presence.
 6. Maintainability. If by chance a slight damage appears on the wall, then it can be repaired with the help of building materials, and a picture can be placed on top.
 7. Masking communications and protruding structural elements - with the help of painting it is possible to hide, for example, wiring that stretches along the outside of the wall.
 8. You can use luminous paints to make the drawing more expressive.
 9. Handmade - it has always been appreciated in decoration. These are not conveyor products, but an individual approach to the design of the kitchen interior.

Wall painting in the kitchen can be done both in an apartment and in a private house - there are no restrictions here. It also integrates well into any style of interior - you can choose an image for both strict and cozy, and for colorful ethno.

As for the choice of a suitable composition, there are no restrictions here either - each one born in your head can be brought to life. The main thing is to correlate the size of the decor with the area of the room: for example, in a spacious one, you can decorate the entire wall with a painting; in a small kitchen, the ideal place for painting is in, and in a tiny one, an original accent of a small size is enough.

Wall painting ideas: what to choose for the kitchen

It is interesting how the idea of wall painting is born. There are two possible scenarios for the development of events:

The second option is more suitable for the kitchen, since the layout and location of communications are known in advance. In any case, when choosing a theme and color scheme for a picture, they are guided by several factors: the purpose of the room, its area, the location of windows relative to the cardinal points, and the style of interior design. Taking into account all these data, you can go in search of an idea. On the walls of the kitchen, you can place food pictures, cups of hot coffee, still life, as well as elements of flora. Bright and juicy colors that awaken the appetite are welcome here.

How to paint the walls in the kitchen

And if we talk about the technique of execution, then in this regard the spread is large, ranging from a primitive stencil to graffiti, airbrushing, frescoes, 3D volumetric painting with stucco elements. Whatever theme and technique you choose, it is better to paint the walls in the kitchen away from the working wall, and even more so from the kitchen apron. And in order for the picture to remain in its original form and delight the household for a long time, it is better to cover it with a protective layer of varnish.

An interesting problem for kitchen painting we were thrown by our new customer-traveler. Being a fan of beautiful landscapes, he asked us to turn his kitchen into a real paradise, where the northern part of Italy, along with neat streets, tiny brick houses and a view of the lake, passes into the beautiful and majestic Swiss mountains.

Before starting the task of painting the kitchen, our team drew up a sketch, taking into account the specifics of the layout of the room. We used three planes to create the picture: frontal (wall), right (door and countertop) and left (window). In general, the work was interesting, the only difficulty was that the space itself was small, and, fitting into its dimensions, we had to create a beautiful panorama and arrange individual segments of the picture in such a way that the whole picture looked complete. We made an effort and were able to create a 3D effect of the picture, thus visually increasing the space with the help of kitchen painting.

After we started the task, we met with another difficulty: marble tiles on the floor, into which the pattern was supposed to flow. We didn't know how to fit this simple floor into the theme of our image. Suppressing disappointment, our team still managed to find a way out and beat everything with the painted stones on the wall, which, as you can see, look quite natural.

In general, the drawing looks like this: a landscape is located on the main wall, which depicts Italian houses, the intersection of streets, a lake and mountains in the background. The right wall is painted stones, complemented by the image of plants, which also look very lively and natural.

The most difficult decision for us was the cast-iron radiator, which was completely out of place in this beautiful new kitchen. For a long time we puzzled over how to deal with this part of the interior, which did not fit into any concept. As a result, the decision has come. With the help of the creativity and talent of our artist, we were able to make beautiful plaster balusters from the battery, which ideally suited the atmosphere of the whole picture and kitchen painting.

We used a kitchen airbrush and airbrush to create the initial drawing, after which each element and swirl was carefully hand-painted by us using brushes and acrylic paint.

The result left satisfied not only the owner of the kitchen, but also ourselves.

The kitchen in the apartment is not only a place for cooking. In most cases, this is also the dining area. The whole family gathers at the common table, where they share their impressions, problems, communicate, and, of course, eat.

Therefore, the decor of the kitchen is important and necessary, because it is here, in this part of the house or apartment, that guests are greeted at the table, new tastes are born here, and traditional dishes sometimes acquire a new name.

If you decide to decorate the kitchen with your own hands, then you can do this with the help of:

 • Pictures, photos, panels;
 • Narrative wallpaper (photo wallpaper) or tiles;
 • Vinyl stickers;
 • Collages (frame in combination with tableware, fancy-shaped bottles, barrels);
 • decorative plates;
 • Art painting, etc.

It should be said that do-it-yourself wall decor in the kitchen provides great scope for creativity and the disclosure of artistic talents. And even if you do not have a pronounced talent as an artist, then, subject to the basic rules and with a certain amount of patience and accuracy, you can paint the wall in a very original way under a stencil with acrylic paint or buy a wonderful vinyl sticker in the form of a funny kitten or a cup of steaming coffee.

Such a picture or sticker on the wall will be guaranteed to cheer up everyone who enters the kitchen.

In addition, ordinary improvised items can be used as wall decor components in the kitchen - antique tableware (spoons, forks), your own successful photos, reproductions of paintings by famous artists, embroideries, panels of dried plant flowers, etc.

Choosing the location of decorative elements

Of course, in order for the kitchen not to look like a small shop full of colorful trifles during the decoration process, this room should not be overloaded with decor. The best option is to choose one area for decoration, for example, a dining room. As a last resort, you can decorate two zones - working and dining, however, in this case, the decor should be subject to a common leitmotif (i.e. the plot and color scheme should be the same).

When choosing decoration options, you should, first of all, take into account the material of the surface on which you plan to apply the decor and its functional purpose.

In general, for walls in the kitchen, you should choose decoration options that will be easy to wash and clean and at the same time not lose their appearance. So, for the working area, plot ceramic tiles are relevant. For a dining area with washable wallpaper or plastic (wooden) panels - drawings with waterproof paints, etc. Another option for decoration is to decorate the refrigerator with a painting or a vinyl sticker. A similar ornament or plot can be repeated on heating equipment - a boiler or a column.

As for choosing a plot for a wall picture in the kitchen, naturally, natural colors and shades and kitchen themes are preferred here - vegetables, fruits, dishes, in general, everything related to food and increases appetite. But there is one unspoken rule here - the drawing must match the overall design of the kitchen.

Drawings on the walls in the kitchen: options

If the decor is chosen in the form of drawings on the walls in the kitchen, then they can be made in the form of artistic painting or painting under a stencil. Of course, you should take up painting the walls if you have certain drawing skills. If there are none, you can safely try your hand at painting under a stencil. For both painting options - with and without a stencil - acrylic paints (including balloon paints), epoxy paints, incl. balloon and alkyd paints.

The choice of paint is also determined by the surface on which it is planned to apply the coloring pigment.

So, if the base is paper, plastic or wood, then pasty acrylic, vinyl or latex paint can be used as the paint, and if ceramics or glass acts as the base, then epoxy enamel is needed. Alkyd paints are suitable for painting metal surfaces.

Drawings with acrylic paints using a stencil

If a drawing using a stencil for the wall is chosen as a decor in the kitchen, then, as a rule, washable smooth wallpapers, as well as wooden or plastic panels, act as the basis.

First you need to purchase or make a stencil. The following materials are suitable for this - thick paper (whatman paper is suitable), cardboard, foam board. Other options are also possible - fabric, foil, film, plain paper.

On the selected basis, it is necessary to draw a drawing on the selected kitchen theme:

 1. Contours of a cup with steaming tea or coffee;
 2. Fruits, flowers, butterflies;
 3. Funny animals - kittens, puppies, etc.

In addition, motifs of an expanding “stream” or “vortex” are always relevant as wall paintings, for example, a swarm of butterflies, flowers, etc. As a rule, such drawings are monochromatic - black on a light background, i.e. the drawing itself is a one-color silhouette. Color options are also possible.

In the manufacture of large stencils (formats A0, A1), cardboard or whatman paper of different formats is suitable. Draw a picture on them, and then cut it along the contour. To make a small stencil (approximately A4 size), you can use plain paper (not cardboard).

Then it is necessary to cut out the contours of the drawing, then seal the working contour with adhesive tape (it is possible on both sides), and then cut through all the contours again with the blade. Adhesive tape is needed so that the stencil is reusable and its surface is smooth. Then you should attach the stencil to the wall using masking tape or spray glue (aerosol glue).

The best wall covering option for applying acrylic paints is wood, plastic or paper, i.e. plastic, wood panels or wallpaper. To avoid ink flowing under the stencil, use masking tape or contact aerosol adhesive (spray adhesive), such as Spirit 5 spray adhesive, etc., which allows you to repeatedly fix the stencil. Spray adhesive should be used according to the instructions for use. To remove the adhesive, you will need an appropriate solvent (such as Spirit 6).

For coloring stencils, both acrylic pasty and water-dispersion acrylate paints are suitable.

However, acrylic pastes are more convenient to use. To work with pasty acrylic paint, you will need a set of brushes or sponges, perhaps a roller, spatula, plastic plates. The paint is first squeezed onto a plate or spatula, then the brush is dipped into the paint with a corner. Excess dye should be blotted on a clean part of a plate or spatula. When working with a stencil, small details are painted over with thin brushes, and large ones with large ones.

If the painting area is significant, it is necessary to use a roller. Excess paint from the roller should be removed by pressing it against an inclined surface so that the paint is glass. The main method of staining is from the edges of the stencil to the middle. Smears should be applied smoothly and calmly. The stencil should be removed after the paint has dried. If the paint is still flowing under the stencil, then you should wait until it dries, and only then use a universal solvent to correct the pattern.

Drawings in the kitchen with other types of paints

In addition to acrylic paste or water dispersion, more expensive spray paints can be used. If the base surface is ceramic, glass or metal, then the base must be cleaned and degreased with alcohol before applying the spray paint.

If the base is wood, plastic or washable wallpaper, then the surface just needs to be cleaned of dirt. Paint goggles, rubber gloves and a respirator should be used when working with spray paint. In addition, you should turn off all heating appliances in the kitchen and open the windows. It is necessary to apply paint from a distance of 25 cm perpendicular to the surface.

If you need to apply a second layer, you must wait until the first one dries. And, of course, to create a drawing, it is necessary that the paint fits well on the base, i.e. was designed to be applied to a particular type of surface.
