Setting up a balcony door Balcony plastic door adjustment

When installing a balcony door by a company, a guarantee for work is always given. And if any breakdowns occurred during the period of this guarantee, then the installer company solves the problem. They undertake to put in order all the mechanisms and problems that have arisen. That's just the warranty period expires sooner or later. Then you have to turn to private masters for help and pay money for it. But do not rush to look for a master of a wide profile. Many breakdowns you can fix yourself. The main thing is to correctly approach the problem that has arisen. You will see that many problems are primitive and are fixed in a short time. Let's talk about how to adjust the pressure of the plastic door on the balcony.

Causes of malfunctions of balcony doors

After installation, balcony doors and windows function smoothly. This is especially true for the door mechanism. It is he who works more often than the rest of the details. But over time, the tightness of the door decreases and this leads to the fact that a cold wind wanders in the room. People are accepted to insulate the balcony, but this does not lead to positive results.

With windows, such problems are extremely rare. Adjusting the pressure of the balcony door in time will eliminate many problems. The main thing is to start eliminating as soon as possible. The longer you stall, the more serious the problem becomes. So, it becomes difficult to solve it. If you notice that it is blowing from the balcony, immediately demand the arrival of the master. Or fix the problem yourself. Moreover, it is quite real and there is nothing complicated about it. When tightened, the door will stop closing completely.

How to determine if pressure adjustment is needed

Do not rush to adjust the tightness of your balcony door. First, make sure that the problem exists and needs to be fixed. So, we begin to check the tightness of the pressing of the balcony door.

It's actually easy to check. Take an ordinary landscape sheet and slam the door on it. Then try to drag the paper through the entire perimeter of the door. The sheet should not move easily. Otherwise, such an action indicates that the door leaf has lost its original density.

If you suspect that the problem is skewed, then cover the sash. With a regular pencil, draw along the perimeter of the closed door. After that, open the balcony door and look at the drawn line. Irregularities indicate distortion. If there is a level, then be sure to use it for the accuracy of the analysis. Such elementary actions will allow you to see the problem at the earliest stages. So don't hesitate to check. Especially if even a small stream of street air penetrates into the room.

Preparation for adjustment

The system of the mechanism of a plastic door is very different from a wooden product. The main distinguishing characteristic is that it is several times easier to adjust than in the second option. Modern manufacturers offer a wide variety of models and options. The action of the mechanism in them is somewhat different, but to a greater extent it is the same. There are several steps involved in troubleshooting.

You can't fix all problems with bare hands. It is necessary to prepare a number of some simple tools:

  • Screwdrivers with various tips;
  • A set of hex keys (nuts in different models have distinctive radii);
  • Pliers for penetration into inaccessible places;
  • Plastic gaskets;
  • Roulette for measurement.

Only after all the tools are available, you can start adjusting the balcony door on your own.

Gradual adjustment of the balcony door

  1. If the problem lies in the doorway, then you will have to tighten the screws that are located in the hinges. Usually there are three of them. Open the door and unscrew the trim with the most common wrench. Next, the door is closed, and the lining is removed from the hinges. Then replace the screw located in the horizontal plane.
  2. If you notice a weakening of the traction in the lower edge far from the hinges, simply tighten the screws that are located in the upper and middle hinges.
  3. The vertical of the door can also be broken. In this case, adjust the hinges at the bottom. As a rule, this procedure is carried out with a 5.5 mm wrench.
  4. The strikers located at the bottom and top are adjusted with a 2.5 mm wrench and a flat-tip screwdriver. But the striker plate is adjusted with a Phillips screwdriver. By slightly lifting the door, you can adjust the lower hinges. To do this, insert a wrench into the groove and rotate clockwise.
  5. If obvious deformations of the lower seal are found, adjust the upper hinges and vice versa.

Remember that the adjustment of the pressure of a plastic balcony door should always take place taking into account the design features of the door.

Sometimes the situation is not corrected by adjusting the screws. Then you have to remove the darning and place plastic spacers under the profile. Now you can adjust the door pressure yourself and save yourself from many unpleasant problems. The main thing is not to start the process.

Most owners of metal-plastic windows sooner or later have a question - how to adjust a plastic balcony door with your own hands? The thing is that no matter how high-quality the door itself is, and the fittings that ensure its closing and opening, over time the mechanism needs to be adjusted.

Of course, in order to adjust the balcony door, you can contact the company that installed it. However, such an opportunity is not always available, and specialists often carry out adjustment visits a few days after the application. That is why it is better to master all the necessary skills on your own - fortunately, there is nothing complicated about it.

Why the door needs adjustment: causes and prevention

Possible malfunctions of the door

As a rule, preventive from a metal-plastic profile is not required. This means that if there are no complaints about the functioning of the door, you do not need to call the master once a year or every six months.

The question "how to adjust the balcony plastic door?" should only be raised when you begin to notice that the door is not functioning as it should.

The most common problems include the following situations:

  • The lower part of the sash touches the edge of the frame, which acts as a threshold. The most common reason for this is sagging of the sash under its own weight.
    This is explained simply: a significant proportion of the mass of the door leaf is a double-glazed window, and if a two-chamber double-glazed window is installed on your balcony door, and even the glass instead of 4 mm has a thickness of 6 mm, then sooner or later the hinges will “get tired” under heavy weight, and the sash will move.

  • The sash hits the frame in the middle. The reason for this is the lateral displacement of the sash due to temperature or other deformations.
    Most often, this offset can be eliminated by adjusting the hinges.
  • The sash is loosely pressed against the frame, and cold air is blown from under the seal. Most often this is due to the way of rotation of the corresponding locking elements.
  • The handle does not fit snugly in the socket, and staggers when rotated. The simplest case, which is regulated in just a couple of minutes.

Therefore, before adjusting plastic balcony doors, you need to figure out what exactly needs adjustment. And when you determine the location of the malfunction, the task of adjusting will be greatly simplified.

Prevention of problems with a balcony door

Of course, knowing how to adjust plastic balcony doors is very useful.

However, no less useful is information that allows you to avoid adjustment, or at least make it so that you have to adjust the window less often:

Note!

The design of the microlift can be different, ranging from a small lever on the side of the sash, and ending with a roller on its lower part.

  • Also, the installation of an opening limiter, a special tire that supports and

These measures will help you prevent problems with the operation of the door leaf, but if you still need adjustment, then below we will tell you how to adjust the balcony door - plastic or aluminum profile.

Balcony door adjustment

Sag adjustment

If the balcony door touches the frame when opening the lower edge of the sash, then it is necessary to adjust the sagging sash. In order to eliminate this malfunction, we need to "take" the door leaf up and move it to the top hinge.

How can we do it?

  • Open the sash in the pivot position (not for ventilation!)
  • Using a hex adjusting key (4 mm), we turn the screw in the end of the sash near the top hinge. To pull the sash, you need to make a few turns clockwise. After that, we close the sash.

Note!

For some fitting systems, the adjusting screws are made not for a hexagon, but for a special “star” key. Keep this in mind, and if necessary, purchase such a key in advance.

  • Remove the plastic decorative caps from the bottom hinge to gain access to the top adjustment screw.
  • We turn the adjusting screw on the upper end of the hinge clockwise, thereby lifting the sash.
  • We check how freely the leaf moves, if necessary, repeat the operations.

Adjustment when touching in the middle

If the sash touches the frame in the middle part, then it is necessary to move it closer to the hinges.

How to adjust the plastic balcony door in this case?

  • First - we take the sash to the lower loop. To do this, insert the adjusting key into the side adjusting screw, and pull the sash to the hinge.

  • If this is not enough, then repeat the procedure for the upper loop. Top loop adjustment is described above.

As a rule, these actions are quite enough so that the sash does not cling to the frame.

Pressure adjustment

Adjustment of the pressing force of the balcony door sash to the frame is carried out with the help of locking elements, which are located on the sash itself. For most fitting systems, these locking elements are in the form of eccentrics, so by turning them with an adjusting key or pliers, you can achieve optimal pressure.

If it blows from the side of the balcony, or the door opens and closes poorly, the problem is not necessarily the quality of the door or unscrupulous installation. Often the situation can be corrected by adjustment. How is a plastic balcony door adjusted?

If the warranty period has not yet expired, you can call the wizard from your installer company. Moreover, the installers were obliged to adjust the door after installation. But someday the warranty will run out, and you still have to adjust the door yourself if you don't want to spend extra money on it. Doors deregulate much faster than windows: they have more weight, they are opened and closed more often.

Important: new houses shrink during the first year. During this period, the door must be monitored. In the running version, the structure may be deformed.

High-quality installed and adjusted door:

Tightly and evenly pressed around the entire perimeter;

There are no visible distortions and deviations from the vertical;

Stable in the open position (in the absence of wind).

Video "Adjustment of plastic balcony doors":

The presser condition is checked with a piece of paper. The sheet is placed between the sash and the frame, the door is locked, and the paper is pulled out. It should come out with some effort.

You can identify the unevenness of the installation (the canvas is poorly aligned with the frame) using a simple pencil. You need to circle the locked door around the perimeter, open it and see how parallel the drawn line is to the edge of the frame.

Adjustment of a plastic balcony door is also necessary if: the handle does not turn well, the seal is unevenly deformed. If it is deformed at the bottom, the door must be raised by adjusting the lower hinge, if at the top, lower it slightly by adjusting the upper one.

Instruction

Required set of tools:

Hex keys of different sizes;

Pliers;

Screwdrivers, slotted and cross;

Roulette.

There are three hinges on the door, in which there are adjusting screws. Adjusting the plastic balcony door is done as follows:

1. Open the door, unscrew the screws fixing the decorative trims with a hexagon 3.

2. Close the door, remove the lining.

3. There is a horizontal screw under the cover plate. With it, the door is adjusted horizontally. To raise the lower corner of the sash, it is necessary to tighten the screws in two hinges, upper and middle.

4. If there is a need to move the canvas to the right / left completely, you need to adjust the horizontal screws of all three loops.

5. To adjust the plastic balcony door vertically (raise / lower), screws are used in the lower parts of the hinges and a 5.2 hex key. The door is lowered by turning the screw clockwise. In the opposite direction, it rises.

6. You can move the bottom corner to the right/left by tightening the same screw on the bottom hinge.

7. Use a 2.5 hexagon to adjust the top or bottom striker.

8. The striker plate can be tightened with a Phillips screwdriver.

9. To adjust the pressure, use a special pin on the fittings. It is turned with pliers. To reduce the pressure, the trunnion is turned in parallel with the profile (this is the extreme position), to increase it - across.

10. In other models of fittings, there is no trunnion, the adjustment of the plastic balcony door is carried out on the striker plate. In this case, you need to insert a hex key into the groove on the bar and make about half a turn.

Adjustment of plastic doors is extremely rarely required, provided that such structures were correctly installed initially. In most cases, the need for tuning is due to the formation of a natural imbalance in their mechanisms during long-term operation.

Plastic doors - what to check after installation?

Experts recommend ordering plastic (PVC) structures only from those manufacturers that have positive feedback from consumers and are recognizable in the building materials market. Poor-quality products, even with the most careful attitude, will quickly fail and bring you a lot of trouble. They will have to be constantly repaired and, in the end, still acquire new designs.

Also, special attention should be paid to the installation process of the purchased doors. Master installers must perform the correct initial adjustment of the structure installed between rooms, at the entrance, on the balcony. Upon acceptance of the assembled door, check:

  1. 1. The tightness of the door frame and the frame of the structure to be installed. If the product sits like a glove, then everything is done correctly. The fit must be uniform and tight in all areas of contact.
  2. 2. Vertical mounting accuracy. The door must open and close without any serious physical effort on the part of the user.
  3. 3. The presence of drafts. Open the structure halfway, wait a couple of minutes. In situations where the door spontaneously closes or swings open, we are talking about improper installation. Require proper adjustment of the product.

Common Causes of PVC Structure Failures

Setting up plastic doors on your own allows you to eliminate basic problems. The latter usually arise due to the fact that the moving parts of the products of interest to us get lost during operation. This leads to a change in the location of the PVC construction web in relation to the door frame. Frequent malfunctions of plastic doors are due to the following phenomena. Firstly, by rubbing the canvas in the handle area or slightly above this area. A similar problem arises due to temperature deformations. Especially often it is observed during the operation of balcony and entrance doors.

Secondly, by rubbing the canvas along the threshold (that is, below). Many consumers believe that this phenomenon is due to the poor quality of the product. But this is not true. It's just that during installation, the adjusting screws of the mechanism were not fully tightened or not tight enough. Also, rubbing often occurs when the door is heavy (for example, if you installed heavy double-glazed windows on it). Excessive weight leads to sagging of the structure.

Thirdly, due to the loss of tightness by the door block. The problem is due to an insufficiently tight fit of the structure to the box or a change in the position of a special roller in the door structure. The described problems are easy to solve on your own, without calling the masters and paying for their far from cheap services. In addition, the PVC door on the balcony, the entrance to the house, between its individual rooms can be adjusted on its own and in the presence of other difficulties with its operation. More on this later.

When to Perform Immediate Adjustment

Adjustment of balcony and plastic doors installed at the entrance to the building is carried out immediately if they pass cold air in the closed state, as well as in the following cases:

  • opening the product requires the application of tangible physical effort;
  • the door is not kept closed when the locking mechanism is open;
  • the lock handle is loose or turns very tight;
  • the design clings to the box when slammed.

These phenomena indicate that the door needs to be urgently adjusted. If you do not immediately do this, after a short period of time you will not be able to use it fully. And then it will not be necessary to regulate the structure, but to carry out its full repair, which will require serious financial costs. In some cases, running doors even have to be replaced with new ones. Also, adjustment of a plastic balcony door is also necessary in case of implicit violations in its functionality.

Specialists advise to independently check the condition of the structure every 6–12 months using simple techniques. Take a regular sheet from a school notebook. Put it in the middle of the threshold and close the door. The paper sheet should be tightly clamped by the canvas. After that, pull the paper out from under the door and pay attention to the effort applied to complete this operation. Then put the sheet under the other part of the opening. Pull it out again and so on. If the applied force in all areas is the same, there is nothing to worry about. The structure is in good condition. If in one section the leaf is easily pulled out, and in the other - with great difficulty, then the position of the door in relation to the box has changed. PVC product customization required.

The second way to check is a bit more complicated. You need to arm yourself with a simple pencil and stand in front of the door from the opposite side in the direction of its opening. Then slam the construction shut, outline its perimeter along the edge of the box using a pencil. Open the door and look at the received lines. In cases where they are strictly parallel to the edges of the canvas, everything is fine. If there is no parallelism, you need to figure out how to adjust the plastic door, and proceed with this operation.

Regardless of the results of the check, be sure to adjust the pressure of the structure after the winter, and also before the onset of cold weather. In the spring, the clamping mechanism should be slightly loosened, and in the fall, it should be strengthened. Then the elements of the block will wear out significantly more slowly, which will increase the period of trouble-free operation of the plastic product.

Adjustment options - horizontal and vertical

Plastic structures are adjusted in horizontal, frontal and vertical directions. All operations are performed with the help of simple devices and working tools. Stock up on pliers, screwdrivers (flat and Phillips), tape measure, PVC gaskets, hexagons (it is advisable to have a complete set of such keys with various types of profiles).

Horizontal adjustment of plastic entrance and other types of doors makes it possible to choose the size of the gap between the hinge support and the leaf. A special element, a screw, is responsible for opening to the left or right. It is usually hidden under a special lining that covers the adjustment part we need. When, when closing, the PVC door rubs against the box (along the entire height or only in the middle part) from the side where the locking mechanism is installed, the problem is solved elementarily. Lifting the balcony door with your own hands is done as follows:

  • Open the plastic structure, unscrew the screws from all the loops with a 3 mm hexagon. Get access to decorative elements.
  • Remove the lining (before that you need to slam the door).
  • You can see the adjusting screws in front of you. Turn them clockwise (number of turns - 1-2). It is necessary to turn the screws on all hinges by the same number of turns!
  • If the sagging of the door is noted only in the lower left or right corner of the canvas, only the middle and upper loops should be twisted. You don't need to touch the bottom.

Vertical adjustment allows you to choose the optimal height of the plastic structure in relation to the box. Such adjustment is carried out when it is necessary to lower or raise the entire door. The operation is performed by means of screws, which are located at the ends of the (lower) hinges. The adjusting parts are directed along the axis of the latter. On PVC entrance doors, as a rule, the screws are closed with a plug. It needs to be dismantled. The screws are rotated by a 5 mm hexagon. When the adjusting part is turned clockwise, the door structure moves up, against - down.

To adjust the strikers (elements at the bottom and top of the box), a 2.5 mm hex wrench is used. But in this case, you will additionally have to use screwdrivers. They make it possible to move the strikers.

We adjust the position of the clamp using different parts

Frontal adjustment is used when it is necessary to adjust the pressure. This procedure is carried out in different ways, depending on the design features of the plastic product. Pressure adjustment can be made:

  1. 1. Eccentrics. They are mounted on the end of the canvas (in relation to the hinges - on the opposite side). It is necessary to turn the eccentrics to ensure the required pressure.
  2. 2. Pin. This item is on the door hardware. The pin is adjusted with pliers. If you want to loosen the clamp, it is turned strictly parallel to the plane of the door. Use pliers carefully to avoid damaging the part. To increase the pressure, the trunnion is rotated perpendicularly.
  3. 3. Reciprocal level. Under it is a screw for a hexagon of a certain profile. You need to move the bar and conjure with the adjusting element. Check the pressure level after each turn of the screw.

With long-term operation of plastic doors, it becomes more and more difficult to configure them with screws every time. At one point, you will see that the adjusting parts are set to their extreme positions. There is simply nowhere to turn them. In these situations, try adjusting the door with the plastic shims.

Gently pry off the glazing beads that fix the double-glazed window in the door product with a regular chisel. Dismantle them. With small spatulas (sold in building stores), insert PVC gaskets between the canvas and the double-glazed window, thereby changing the geometry of the door. We must say right away that it is difficult to perform such a procedure on your own. It is necessary to select the thickness of the gaskets up to a millimeter and, in addition, know the exact place where they need to be mounted. Dismantled glazing beads must be marked. They must be put back in the same places where they were. When installing glazing beads, use a rubberized hammer. This tool will allow you to accurately knock out fasteners.

Replacing the seal and adjusting the handle - do it right

If the door structure is used skewed for a long time, this is guaranteed to lead to deformation of the seal. Instructions for replacing the latter are given below:

  1. 1. Get a new seal. Pay attention to the shape of its section. It must be similar to the previously used product.
  2. 2. Using a screwdriver, take out the failed seal.
  3. 3. Clean the freed groove from the remnants of the adhesive and dirt. Treat it with glue.
  4. 4. Mount the new sealing product. It should freely, without the slightest stretch, sit in the groove.

PVC door handles often become loose during operation. Also, they may not turn completely or go very tight. We will deal with loose handles without difficulty. Dismantle the overlay, which closes the fixation area of the locking mechanism to the web. You will see two fasteners in front of you (usually screws). They should be slightly tightened with a screwdriver (Phillips). After such an operation, the pen will again work flawlessly.

Other defects in the locking device in most cases occur due to misalignment of the door. As a rule, after adjusting the canvas according to the methods that we discussed above, the handle begins to function normally. If the adjustment of the PVC construction did not solve the problem with constipation (it still does not close well), you will have to change it.

How to prevent malfunctions in the operation of plastic doors

If you want to configure PVC structures as little as possible, pay special attention to the fittings installed on the door. The mechanisms of the latter should easily withstand loads of up to 120-130 kg. Then you will not think for a very long time how to tighten the door, and figure out why it does not close well. Cheap fittings (in particular, Chinese) are not designed for the specified loads. Its strength limit is 80–90 kg. Naturally, it quickly fails.

In addition, the presence of two important options in it is of great importance for the trouble-free operation of plastic doors - an opening limiter and a microlift. PVC structures are not initially equipped with these devices. They must be ordered separately before installing the plastic product. The opening limiter is a kind of tire. It takes on some of the weight of the door. This significantly reduces the risk of sagging of the plastic web. With proper initial adjustment, the limiter eliminates the possibility of the door hitting the slopes, due to which the period of trouble-free operation of the fittings increases by 2–5 times.

On heavy doors (entrance, balcony), equipped with double-glazed windows with two chambers, it is recommended to install a microlift. This device counteracts the sagging of the canvas, which is in the closed state. The microlift, in its essence, is an additional supporting element that takes on part of the load. Structurally, it is made in the form of a roller or a plate of a movable type. They are mounted in the lower part of the door leaf or in its end face.

Each modern apartment has plastic doors to the balcony. They are distinguished by many advantages: ease of use, unpretentious maintenance and speed of installation. A possible problem that occurs after long-term operation of the mechanism is skew and loose fit of the sash. Therefore, it is useful to know how to adjust the plastic balcony door in order to eliminate loosening due to regular opening, closing and airing.

Before proceeding with the diagnosis of the problems that have arisen and the subsequent repair, it is worth understanding the structure of the structure. There is a base unit, as well as spare parts for a plastic balcony door. Moreover, among the accessories there are both irreplaceable and optional parts. As a rule, the following elements are included in the door block:

  • a frame made of PVC profiles that connect special fasteners;
  • a leaf assembled according to a principle similar to the door frame;
  • hinges, thanks to which the structure closes and opens;
  • handle and latch for PVC balcony doors;
  • a sealant that ensures the tightness of the closure of the sash;
  • double glazed balcony door.

In addition, the device may include additional elements that expand the functionality of the balcony door: stoppers, mechanical or hydraulic sensors and other details.

The device of the handle may also differ: it can be stationary and movable, one-sided and two-sided, shell handles for balcony doors are popular. The latter option is in demand in families with children, as well as among smokers, because the shell handle allows you to conveniently close the door while on the balcony. For an apartment on the first floor, a good idea is a handle with a lock - a balcony latch for plastic doors, which allows you to secure the balcony from intruders.

When adjustment of a balcony plastic door is required

The price of a balcony plastic door is quite high, but buying an expensive high-quality model does not save you from frequent cases of mechanism breakdowns. It's all about its frequent use, leading to a decrease in the tightness of the sash.

In addition, double-glazed windows provide excellent sound insulation, while PVC guarantees durability. However, it is these materials that noticeably make the structure heavier, as a result of which it begins to sag under its own weight and ceases to close tightly. As a result, a noticeable draft appears in the room, and the insulation of the balcony does not help.

The normal position of the plastic door is as follows:

  • if the door is open, it does not move on its own;
  • no sash displacement;
  • the leaf is tightly pressed against the profile of the door frame.

If this is the case, intervention in the door mechanism is not required. However, if you notice the slightest deviation, you immediately need to repair plastic balcony doors. You should not delay calling the master, because with each opening and closing the situation will worsen. As a result, this can lead to balcony doors not closing at all.

Helpful advice! If the door installation warranty has expired and you do not want to contact a specialist, you can watch a video of self-adjusting plastic balcony doors and fix the problem yourself.

Types of balcony door malfunctions

If you are adjusting a plastic balcony door with your own hands, it is important for the success of the repair to determine the causes of the malfunction. Most often, the problems are as follows:

Type of malfunction Cause
Sagging of the door (when closing the door clings to the plastic threshold) Most likely, the structure is too heavy, which leads to its displacement downwards
Dangle handle for balcony door Usually the handle starts to dangle when the balcony door is opened very often
Plastic balcony doors do not close tightly (the leaf is not tightly pressed against the frame and you feel a draft) As a rule, this is a symptom of a malfunctioning door handle or a skewed door.
The leaf is shifted to the side (the door touches the middle of the frame) Most often, the problem is in the hinges, adjusting them will help fix the problem. This problem often occurs due to constant sudden temperature changes that affect the fittings for plastic balcony doors in case of insufficient insulation of the balcony

To test the door for tightness, slam the door with a regular landscape sheet of paper. Try to drag the sheet around the perimeter of the door. If it moves easily, the design has lost its tightness and needs to be adjusted.

Evaluate also the tightness of the pressure of the seal: unequal pressure of the gum, as a rule, indicates sagging. Determining the side of the offset is simple: pay attention to the place where the seal is squeezed and check if there is a trace from the sash on it.

How to determine the skew of the door leaf

If you suspect that the structure is skewed, cover the sash, and then draw along the perimeter of the closed door with a simple pencil. Open the door and compare its outlines with the drawn line. The presence of irregularities indicates that the door is skewed. For the accuracy of the result, use the building level.

Suppose, as a result of measurements, you learned that the width of the drawn strip is 8 mm (an error of 1 mm is permissible). So, everything is in order, and there is no skew of the door. If the width of one strip is 12 mm and the other 4 mm, this clearly indicates that the door is skewed by 4 mm.

Note! Sometimes it turns out that from the side of the loops the width of the strip is 3-4 mm, and from the side of the handle 6-7 mm. Such indicators indicate a narrowing of the sash by 4-6 mm - this is a manufacturing defect, and it makes no sense to move such a door.

Also check the width of the opening on all sides of the frame. The difference in measurements should not be more than 1 mm. Otherwise, the opening will be in the shape of a barrel - this happens if the installation is incorrect, when the middle of the frame is drawn to the wall more than the top and bottom. Such errors also lead to loose clamping. By measuring the width of the sash from all sides, you will determine the correct length of the impost. The difference between the three measurements should not be more than 0.5-1 mm. With indicators different from the norm, the length of the impost differs from the required one and causes the door to skew.

How to adjust a plastic balcony door: step by step instructions

To avoid mistakes or accidental damage to the double-glazed window of a balcony door (the cost of which is quite high), you need to figure out how to adjust plastic balcony doors correctly. When carrying out work, it is not necessary to overpay for the master: you can adjust the balcony door with your own hands - video instructions can be easily found on the Internet.

You will need quite a few tools to get the job done:

  • hexagon;
  • crosshead screwdriver;
  • flat screwdriver.

Instructions and video: how to adjust plastic balcony doors when sagging

If you notice that when opening and closing the door, it scratches the lower edge of the frame, this indicates a sagging sash. Adjustment in this case can be vertical or horizontal.

Stages of horizontal adjustment:

  1. Open the door wide to swing position.
  2. A screw is located near the top hinge at the end of the sash. Take the hex wrench and turn it clockwise 2-3 times.
  3. Remove the plugs covering the holes leading to the top screws.
  4. Turn all screws under the plugs clockwise.
  5. After adjusting the mechanism, check if the door now closes freely. Tighten the screws again if necessary.

To understand how to adjust balcony doors vertically, do the following:

  1. Lift the door evenly and locate the screw at the bottom end of the hinge, located along its axis.
  2. If the screw is covered with a plug, carefully remove it.
  3. If you turn the screw clockwise, gently lift the door, if against, lower it.

Balcony door pressure adjustment and door handle adjustment

To tighten the handle for a plastic balcony door, you must do the following:

  1. Slowly and carefully turn the plastic cover at a right angle.
  2. Locate the mounting screws under the plastic cover. Pull them up.

If the handle does not turn well, sometimes it is enough to lubricate the lock with a special material that does not contain resin and acid. In case of a complete breakdown, it is worth buying a handle for plastic balcony doors, unscrew the screws, remove the old part and put a new one in its place.

Helpful advice! A good option is to install a magnetic latch on the balcony door. It will avoid too frequent impact on the door handle each time the door is closed and opened, which will have a beneficial effect on its durability.

If it blows from plastic balcony doors, this is a sure sign of loose pressing of the sash. It is necessary to adjust the pressure of the plastic balcony door. To figure out how to adjust the plastic balcony doors to the clamp, look for locking elements on the door leaf. They are responsible for the density of the clamp.

Using a key or pliers, rotate the locking elements until the door is in the desired position. Professionals recommend periodically self-adjusting plastic balcony doors depending on the season. It is enough to figure out how to adjust plastic balcony doors for the winter, and you can easily loosen the pressure in hot weather and seal it in the cold season.

Sometimes adjusting the hinges does not help solve the problem, and then you can eliminate the tightness of the clamp with the help of a trunnion. For this you will need. To maximize the door pressure, install the trunnion perpendicular to the profile. To, on the contrary, achieve a minimum pressure, position the pin in parallel.

Replacing the seal and adjusting the door when the frame is scratched

It may turn out that adjusting the door pressure did not bring the desired result. This happens because the rubber seal has worn out, and any adjustments to the door are pointless without replacing it. For this you need:

  1. Pull out the old rubber. This is done without much effort and you will not need additional tools.
  2. Remove dirt from the inside of the groove.
  3. Install new seal. Make sure that the side bend falls on the end of the sash.

Helpful advice! To facilitate the work, remove the sash from the frame: this way the access to the rubber gaskets will be free from the side of the hinges. It is better to prefer a seal from the same manufacturer as the installed doors.

If the balcony doors do not close well and touch the frame, scratching its center, follow these instructions for self-adjusting plastic balcony doors:

  1. Lower the sash to the bottom hinge.
  2. Insert the adjusting key into the side screw and tighten the sash.
  3. If the position of the door does not return to normal, repeat the procedure with the upper hinge.
