Cottage with pitched roof. Shed roof house project: options

Shed roofs are considered the simplest design. Many have heard about their shortcomings, so they decide to build more complex models. Projects of houses with a shed roof will surely inspire with their extraordinary appearance. The main thing is to do everything with high quality and taste.

Cottage with a shed roof in the style of minimalism

To understand whether such a roof is suitable, it is worth weighing its advantages and disadvantages.

Main advantages:

  • due to the simple design, it will take less material and the craftsmen will be able to quickly assemble it;

The roof is flat, but it is also shed
  • this type of roof is beneficial for regions in which strong winds often blow;
  • just take care of her. And it is easier to repair it, especially if the angle of inclination of the slope is not very large;

Frame house with a shed roof - country design
  • precipitation will go in one direction, so you do not have to equip storm systems around the perimeter of the building. However, due to the increased load, you will also have to buy parts for the drain;
  • such roofs are in demand because they can be installed in energy-efficient smart homes;
  • you can design an attic with large windows (see examples at the link).

Attic under a shed roof - there is very little space left at the bottom of the slope

There are few disadvantages:

  1. It is not always possible to give a suitable slope for rainfall, which is why water lingers on the roofing material. So that it does not get wet, they organize reinforced waterproofing;
  2. Not quite the correct form, which is especially noticeable in buildings with an attic. Due to the decreasing slope, it is not possible to equally use the entire area of \u200b\u200ba one and a half floor;
  3. The rafters are very long. It is necessary to accurately calculate the snow loads and select the material with sufficient reliability.

There are no critical flaws. With the correct drafting of the project and compliance with construction standards, a building with such a roof will serve no worse than others.

The specifics of the operation of a pitched roof

Attention! Design should be carried out by specialists who know about all its subtleties.

Many of us are not designers, but everyone who thinks about construction must know about the specifics of drafting projects and operating such a roof.

Timber house with pitched roof
  • When there is no attic in the project, and the truss system will be the basis of the ceiling of the upper rooms, it is necessary to choose high-quality materials for roofing, waterproofing, and finishing. Otherwise, after the first leak, you will have to spend money on repairs.
  • It is necessary to make good thermal insulation, since a roof without a technical floor can freeze evenly over the entire area (read the article).
  • If the project has a roof with a small slope angle, you will need to regularly monitor its condition and repair it in time. It is necessary to provide access ways to the top so that you can manually clear the surface of snow.

The more bias, the better.
  • The attic floor becomes an ambiguous room. The low part of the room should be given for the installation of furniture (for example, structures with retractable storage spaces), and the rest of the walls are made at the discretion of the owners.

If the roof has a large angle of inclination, the entire front wall is open to winds and showers, so protection should be provided.

Shed roof houses - projects, photos

On the example of specific projects, you can consider construction technology projects and choose the best solutions.

Projects of two-story houses with a pitched roof

The roof from the first example is very similar to the gable. However, the roof slopes are not connected in one piece, so the structure is considered single-pitched. See photo below.

Frame house with a shed roof - house projects with a terrace and a carport

This is a winning solution that allows you to give an unusual appearance. For this, the slopes are made at different heights. It all looks modern - convenience and beauty without unnecessary details.

On the finished project, a small and covered area for a car is visible, which can be abandoned. The roof of the building consists of three parts located at different levels.

Project specifications:

  • total area - 111.1 m 2;
  • living area - 54.63 m 2;
  • the foundation is made of brick. External walls can be built of brick or aerated concrete at the request of the customer. The ceilings are also monolithic reinforced concrete. Roofing material - natural and bituminous tiles;
  • insulation with mineral wool;
  • the exterior finish is made of decorative plaster and wooden or WPC lining.

Internal organization

The layout is as follows:

  1. The size of the building box is 9x11.95 meters. The width is taken taking into account the parking space.
  2. The entrance to the house is through an open porch-terrace with an area of 5.22 square meters.
  3. There is a large wardrobe in the hall. Next is the staircase and the entrances to the bathroom and the kitchen-living room (the drawings of the stairs are presented in the article).
  4. The cooking and eating area is combined with a spacious living room. Those who do not like this approach can install a partition here and put doors. The smell of cooking food and the heat from the stove will spread throughout the house, which does not suit everyone.
  5. The bathroom is L-shaped. Downstairs there is a shower cubicle.
  6. Next comes the passage to the technical room, where the heating boiler is installed. Here is the back door from the house.

Of the features worth noting is the fireplace (see link) in the living room. A large panoramic window immediately provides natural light.

Layout of the first floor of a house up to 150 m2 with a pitched roof

Second floor layout:

  1. The stairs to the second floor lead to a small corridor, from which 4 doors lead on the sides.
  2. The first is in the main bathroom. It is almost twice as large as the one on the ground floor. There is enough space to install a full-fledged corner bath. The room has a window, which is located exactly above the canopy above the entrance.
  3. The remaining doors lead to the bedrooms, although the rooms can be used for other purposes, for example, to make an office in one of them. One of the rooms has a modest area of 8.39 squares. It is enough for one person, you can make, for example, a nursery.
  4. The largest bedroom is almost 18 square meters in size, and it is also connected to a wardrobe. Definitely, this room will be used by parents.
  5. The third living room is also small - 11.82 m 2, but even here there is enough space to install a double bed.

Houses with a shed roof photo with layouts

This house is perfect for a family of 4-5 people. There is not much space, there is a narrow corridor, but the convenient location of the bathrooms compensates for this moment.

Someone may not like that the ceilings of all living quarters will be sloping, but this is a feature of houses with an attic.

The project of a one-story frame house

The second project is a one-story house with a pitched roof. The structure is universal, since it can be built from different materials (SIP panels, in the form of a frame sheathed with boards, various blocks, for example, aerated concrete).

Such a house can be used both for temporary residence, for example, a summer residence, and for permanent residence, if the construction budget is small. This is a mini-cottage of a simple design, which is easy to build.

Read on our website:

The project of a one-story house with a shed type of roof

Technical characteristics of the building:

  • the total area, not counting the covered terrace - 60 squares. Residential - 58. Everything in the house is only the most necessary, so there is a minimal difference between the areas;
  • dimensions of the building box - 12 * 5 meters. With such a length, the interior space can be divided into more rooms;
  • The structure is elongated and narrow. This will allow him to fit in the same area. It is also worth considering that all rooms will be adjacent;
  • the construction technology used is modular or frame, although cellular blocks are perfect.

Internal layout

The entrance to the building is located in the center, but not exactly, but with a slight offset so that the main bedroom can be made larger. Thanks to this position of the door, one central room appeared, from which you can go to different parts of the house without making them completely adjacent.

After the entrance, I will splice a kitchen-living room with an area of 21.78 m 2. The main part of this room is reserved for the dining area, although you can arrange the furniture differently.

Two passages were made in the side walls. Leaving to the right, you can get into the bedroom and the plumbing unit. From the living room there is a passage to a fairly spacious dressing room.

Technologies for building houses with a pitched roof

Such houses can be built from different materials, using appropriate installation technologies. However, frame structures stand apart.

You can hardly meet them in Russia, since our man loves everything solid, but in Europe there is a real boom for such buildings. Surprisingly, they are used mainly in the northern regions of this part of the world.

Houses with a shed roof projects - photo, layout

Gradually, such houses find their fans in our country. The main reason is the low cost of construction, although it is not so much different from the same block structures.

But if we compare the speed of construction and finishing, then the carcasses have no equal in this. An experienced team will deliver the house in 1-2 months, or maybe faster if modern technologies are used.

presented in the article.

A frame house made of wooden bricks is assembled incredibly quickly

Types of frame buildings

There are two types of frame buildings (we do not take frame-panel into account, since this technology is used mainly for the construction of high-rise buildings):

Frame-sheathing

It involves a separate installation of the "skeleton" of the structure, after which it is sheathed with finishing materials from the outside and inside.

From the inside, a heater is laid in the structure. Thanks to this procedure, you can freely change the size and shape of the facade.

The main difficulty is proper insulation without cold bridges (read about in the article).

Frame-panel

Such a house is assembled, like a designer, from large shields, which are multilayer panels. For residential buildings, SIP panels are used.

This material has three layers - it is covered with OSB panels on the sides, and polystyrene foam of a certain thickness is glued inside.

SIP panels have positive qualities - the construction of them takes place quickly, the structures are very warm.

One-story houses with a shed roof: projects, photos - both walls and ceilings are made of SIP panels

In both cases, the basis for the wall material is a frame, which is assembled mainly from hardwood. There are options on steel I-beams, but this material is much more expensive, and installation requires the use of special equipment, so they are extremely rare.

Such houses are considered wooden, but they have a significant advantage - the design does not give strong shrinkage. Finishing can be done immediately, without waiting for six months or more.

The appearance of a frame house can be anything - a variety of materials are used for decoration. Examples in the photo gallery.

Shed roof, according to modern architects, is of the main decisive importance in the development of not only economy class housing, but also stylish. After all, the forces and costs that usually go to the construction of a multi-slope can now be directed to the exterior. For example, building a pool in front of the house or adding a barbecue terrace. And the rest of the shed roof is not inferior at all in anything.

Therefore, it does not mean at all that a house with a pitched roof will turn out to be unsightly or too simple. On the contrary, by playing with the slope and direction of such a structure, roofing material and interior space, you will get a unique architectural design that no one you know will definitely have. And our website will make such a house inexpensive in construction and modern both inside and out!

Architectural Benefits of Shed Roofs

Of course, where gable roofs have existed for thousands of years, everything unusual seems ugly and ridiculous. But the Eiffel Tower in France in the early years of construction embarrassed the locals with its "simpleness".

The fashion for shed European villas came to the Russian expanses quite recently. And until now, individual architects are rebelling against this trend, calling mono-pitch roofs exclusively "barn" and arguing that clients do not even look at such projects.

But in fact, not only the customers of their future “dream house”, but self-builders with golden hands are increasingly making the roofs of their buildings precisely pitched, with different angles, directions and combinations with other roofs. Because, apart from the more dynamic look that only a sloped plane can give, shed roofs are actually more functional and even economical.

Most often in world practice, shed roofs can be found in Finnish houses, which are known for their pleasant combination of modesty and restraint:

.

In warm and hot countries, houses with a shed roof are especially popular: no insulation is needed from the inside, the design always looks original, and such a roof is much cheaper in terms of costs. So the northern countries began to adopt this useful fashion.

For example, not so long ago, a new type of residential building was created in Norway - high-tech, with a shed roof with a slope of 19 °. It generates its own energy thanks to solar panels on the roof: the atrium has enough thermal mass to accumulate enough heat during the day and release it all night. And not only to give, but also to provide the whole house with electricity.

And for water heating of walls and floors, rainwater heated by the sun is used, which flows down the shed roof directly into the drain. With an ordinary gable or hip roof, all this would not have been possible to realize!

Is it worth it to make a “one-slope” for a residential building?

Until recently, shed roofs could not be called popular in Russia. It so happened historically that due to the winds and heavy snows in this country, it was gable roofs that proved to be the most practical, which were sharp in snowier regions, and gentler in more windy ones.

And purely visually, the indigenous population is accustomed to seeing roofs with a slope of at least 30-40 ° on houses, where there is a traditional attic for storing a variety of things. And shed roofs carry such inconveniences:

  1. An incomprehensible space at the upper Mauerlat. You don’t use it under the attic, but the attic turns out to be unusual. Leave it without an attic - then the entire geometry of the interior will seem broken and cause discomfort.
  2. On a shed roof, rainwater exerts twice as much pressure as on a gable roof. Why? It's simple: all the liquid that gets on it flows along one slope until it falls to the ground. And if you take and break this slope in half, a “house”, now the water will be divided at the ridge into two streams. And this is twice the amount and influx. This is why shed roofs are problematic in terms of leaks, especially if the choice of roofing material is wrong.
  3. A shed roof is one integral plane, and this is a real sail. That is why, during storms and strong winds, it is precisely such roofs that suffer in the first place.
  4. The need for a strong truss system. The load here is always distributed less than that of a gable roof, and therefore the rafters will have to be made thicker and stronger.
  5. A complicated ventilation system, which is sometimes not paid any attention at all, and then they are surprised at the short service life of such roofs.
  6. Another disadvantage of such a roof is that it will have to be cleaned during heavy snowfalls, otherwise the roofing material and the building system may break. And on ordinary days, on the contrary, the snow itself descends from such a roof, and not like an avalanche, but gradually.
  7. Unpopularity of experiments. Even more: neither the rich nor the poor want to risk their own investments in construction, and the designers completely fall into despair from any unusual roof.

Because of all these reasons, shed roofs in our country in 99% of cases are found only in baths, garages and summer country houses. Although at the same time, in a region with little snow and not very windy, such a roof could bring many bonuses, including the same unusual stylish design.

Frame houses with a pitched roof are considered the most energy-efficient. This does not take into account the fact that the area of the southern wall in such a house will be the largest, and the northern wall - the smallest. Now see the difference with gable projects? Moreover, the northern side itself is still being built without windows, and serves as one of the walls of the utility room: a boiler room, a boiler or a supply room, where garden tools are stored. But the presence of an attic under the roof in private construction is already considered obsolete.

A shed roof is remarkable in that it has:

  • Simple design. So simple that with a small private construction, they don’t even make particularly accurate calculations for it. There is no need to adjust the slopes to each other, to achieve the identity of their weight and load on the walls. There is no need for complex support systems, which are often found in other types of roofs.
  • High practicality. In addition to the main functions of the roof, with a minimum angle of inclination, it is also used as an open area for a variety of purposes.
  • Reliability. Due to its simplicity and unpretentiousness, such a roof is actually also the most reliable among all others.

And from the practical aspects, we highlight the following:

  1. The ability to arrange a house without an attic and the problems associated with it.
  2. The original geometry of the ceiling, which is used as a separate design element.
  3. The absence of a ridge and cracks under it.
  4. The ability to drain rainwater and snow from the roof in only one direction - where the slope is inclined. This is important if people are walking right in front of your house (like on the streets of the city) or if you have laid out a beautiful garden and do not want to flood it in the rain.

And, of course, the simplicity of construction work:

Know-how: shed roof combinations

There is one new architectural fashion: the gable roof, which consists of two single-slope, but not joined at the ridge. And technologically, we are still talking about two separate shed roofs, which are built according to all the rules. And in the middle they place either a flat part or an open terrace between the two halves of the house. An incredibly successful and functional solution, we note, which allows you to add more natural light to the house.

Shed roof houses are recognized all over the world as the most favorable in terms of energy saving. Which is not surprising, because the cube also takes the first place in this regard, and what then is such a house, if not a cube?

Now we will reveal a secret to you: it's all about compactness. Any structure is said to be compact if it has, as far as possible, the minimum area of all external surfaces. So, a house is sometimes built according to rather intricate projects, when almost every room has three external walls, plus an even more complex roof. And sometimes it happens that the rooms have only one such wall, and the roof is generally shed.

What is the point? The fewer such external surfaces that come into contact with cold outdoor air, the warmer the house itself will be. That's why compactness is so important in construction!

In this design, everything is simple: shed roofs are built according to the same patterns, but are based on two parallel Mauerlat-runs. And the main plus is that such a non-spacer construction does not “push apart” the walls of the house with its pressure, which means that there are already much less strength requirements for the frame structure itself. True, in such a house there must be at least two internal walls.

And in modern architecture, a new style has recently appeared: roofs united into a single whole, which have a slope in different directions.

Modern frame house: from the foundation to the roof

A frame house with a shed roof is a structure made of lumber and fixed wood panels. The frame of such a house itself must be built either from metal or from hardwood timber. It is solid, while the rafters on the roof should be made just from conifers. Now let's explain.

The fact is that solid woods tend to keep their geometric shape and not change over time: they do not dry out, do not shrink, do not twist. And, of course, in bending, due to such properties, they work poorly. But conifers are just good because they do an excellent job with dynamic loads, which is why the walls are made static and strong, and the rafters are more flexible and withstand both shrinkage of the house and a slight deflection due to snow.

Although wonderful houses are obtained on a metal frame:

Foundation for a frame house

Under a small one-story house, the easiest way is to make a columnar foundation. But, if you are building a solid two-story frame house with a shed roof, the technology will be a little different.

The fact is that a simple columnar foundation is no longer suitable here. A frame house, worse than any other, endures seasonal ground movements, subsidence of the earth, or other similar problems, and therefore experienced builders advise making a slab foundation for it. This one takes all the dynamic loads on itself, and the integrity of the frame is preserved.

Therefore, for a two-story house, make just such a foundation:

Or a more modern insulated Swedish stove:

Technologies of frame construction of walls

In total, there are two main technologies for frame construction.

Frame and panel technology

In this case, the frame house is built from various individual building materials: beams, cladding, insulation, interior decoration, vapor and waterproofing. All this is attached to the frame in its sequence, and as a result, we have a house that is no worse than a timber building in terms of quality.

Here is a good example of construction using this technology:

And the main components of a house built using this technology look like this:

Frame-panel technology

To assemble such houses, a detailed project is initially made, according to which shields of the required size are already manufactured in the factory. We are talking about multilayer panels, which already initially include inner lining, insulation and all types of insulation. All you have to do is attach these shields to the frame of your house, which only takes two days in total. As a result, the whole house, from design to roof arrangement, is built in just a week.

So, insulated SIP panels are the most popular in frame-shield technology. SIP is a wall panel designed to bear longitudinal loads. A frame house based on Canadian technology, which just involves the use of SIP, turns out to be especially warm and integral.

And when building a frame house from such material, the following question arises: should the roof be made from the same material, or is it still traditional? With beams, rafters and lathing? The fact is that everything here is decided by the length of the overlap.

So, with small spans, up to 5-6 meters, the shed roof of a frame house may well be from SIP. It will be already insulated, durable and easy to perform. Moreover, SIP has good bending strength. But for large spans, it is better to build a traditional floor and reinforced rafters. After all, you can’t make a complex roof out of SIP, but just a shed roof is easy enough:

It is only important to know how to properly connect floor beams with such walls:

Shed roof device on a frame house

A shed roof in the design world is also called a monoslope. Modern architects see a house with such a roof somehow differently than a shed or hip roof: lighter, airier and more stylish.

A shed roof behaves remarkably where spans are from 6 to 8 meters. Usually, the slope of the slope is made to the north, and large windows are equipped in the southern facades. Often, external insulation of such a roof is practiced: on top is extruded polystyrene foam, which is filled with a cement screed, and on top of it is a roofing carpet.

What is also good, the drainage system in such a roof is simplified and is needed only on one side, and not on two or four at once. But this is not necessary: on a slope oriented to the south, solar collectors are often equipped abroad.

Step 1. Design

A shed roof of any format always differs from a gable one in that here the rafters are not connected in the ridge, but are attached to the walls of the building with both ends. Those. there is no skate at all. The only exception is the run on which the layered rafters are attached, but it never exceeds the level of the entire slope in height.

If you are building using frame-panel technology, then it will be easiest for you to create a wall difference:

But if you use sip panels or the walls are already made at the same height, then you will have to make roof trusses.

Slanted rafters in a pitched roof are made when the building has an internal strong partition. After all, the longer the rafter leg, the more there is a danger of its deflection or eversion. And therefore, if it is possible to support such rafters, you need to use it.

In this case, a run is attached to the carrier partition:

Now we make the rafters twice as short - so that each of them rests on the wall with one end, and on the run with the other. And be sure to check the angle of inclination of such rafters with a laser level - it must completely match. And outwardly, such a roof will not differ from simpler shed roofs.

But in general, the shed roof rafters can be in all of these options:

Although the rafters in the shed roof of a frame house can be generally non-expanding:

Hanging rafters are good because they can be built directly on the ground, in the form of ready-made farms. After all, their main difference from the layered ones is that the load is now transferred to the rafter triangle itself, and not to the walls of the building. And this is quite reasonable, because most often shed roofs are arranged just on small buildings, such as a bathhouse, a garage or a change house. And the walls of those usually do not please with a special fortress.

So decide: if your building is not distinguished by the monumentality of the walls, make hanging rafters, and if it is more or less strong and there is an inner wall, then layered. The choice is pretty easy!

Step 2. Mauerlat cutout

Decided? Then specify the future angle of inclination of such a roof and make a template for the rafters:

And the cut itself needs to be made in order to support the rafters of the shed roof on the Mauerlats. The main task of the Mauerlat is to compensate for the horizontal unevenness of the walls. That is why, when laying it, be sure to arm yourself with a building level.

Step 3. Making rafters

For this task, you will need the following fasteners:

And how difficult your rafters will be depends on what load is planned for them. The higher, the rafters should be more reinforced from the inside:

Step 4. Calculation of the crate

As soon as you fix the rafters, go to the crate. The smaller the slope of the shed roof, the more often the crate should be (up to a solid one):

And on steeper slopes - whatever your heart desires, just calculate in advance the weight of the roofing for the whole house and foundation:

It remains only to lay the selected roofing and arrange a spillway. Which, fortunately, in a shed roof is done on one side only:

Step 6 Glazing

Since relatively recently, a new trend has appeared in frame construction: cleanliness, conciseness and a lot of glass surfaces. What is most easily achieved precisely through frame technology, for which the presence of a shed roof instead of massive and clumsy multi-pitched roofs is a real outlet:

The easiest, according to modern architects, way to bring more light and lightness into a frame house is to make transparent inserts into the roof or completely transmit some part of it. For example, above a covered veranda or part above an attic. And in fact, we are not talking about glass at all, but just about modern roofing polycarbonate, which is more often used monolithic or corrugated. There is a separate article about this on our website, but here we will note only some technical points.

When choosing the thickness of the polycarbonate that you are going to use for the construction of the roof, calculate in advance the climatic and static loads. You have probably seen a photo where beautiful, durable greenhouses have completely broken roofs in the spring? And all because when buying, the owners decided to save on quality, without calculating, such tons of snow fall in harsh Russian winters. You wouldn't want something like that to happen to your roof, would you? After all, replacing the top of an ordinary greenhouse is not difficult, but replacing the roof of a house is a real problem.

You need to fasten profiled polycarbonate sheets to the roof using the same fastening that is used for the metal profile. These are self-tapping and self-drilling screws of the STSD type. The sheets themselves are fastened together with special profiles, which are equipped with EPDM rubber seals. All this is necessary so that such a beautiful roof does not leak. There is also a special connecting aluminum profile for sale - for P-6066 polycarbonate. It consists of a special clamping bar and a sealant, but it already needs to be fixed with self-tapping screws directly to the pipe or crate.

In addition, if you have leftover polycarbonate (after all, standard sheets are produced), use it for glazing utility rooms:

And the excess from another roofing cannot be applied in this way.

A house with a shed roof, built using frame technology with a competent approach, will be the most modern and stylish!

A one-story house is especially popular among customers, and, as a rule, it is a frame house with a pitched roof. Both standard designs and custom-made designs are popular. This is a great option for suburban construction, for giving or for the life of a small family. If the family consists of 2-4 people, then the second floor, as a rule, is not needed - it is used only when guests arrive, but it must be constantly heated. And these are additional costs.

One-story frame houses are chosen by those who plan to do independent construction. Read about the technology of frame housing construction. One floor allows you to avoid working at a sufficiently high height, and also allows you to do without additional equipment. Building a one-story frame house with a shed roof also reduces the number of workers needed to build the house.

At the same time, a frame with a simple roof can be very pretty - despite the brevity of the project. This can be achieved not only with the help of decoration, but also with the construction of verandas, awnings and other architectural forms. You can also make an original and convenient arrangement of interior rooms by choosing a suitable house from a huge number of interesting frame house projects, which are offered both with a shed roof and a gable one. Today, projects are limited only by your imagination.

Choosing a roof for a house

Most often, when building a one-story house, a gable roof is chosen, while undeservedly considering a single-slope roof to be less attractive. However, there are a number of options when a shed roof is much better suited.

  1. When is the best time to go for this option?
  2. When you prefer a simple design.
  3. When it is necessary to lighten the weight of the building.
  4. When you just like such projects.
  5. When you want to save on building materials.
  6. When you prefer a small slope angle - from 3 degrees to 45.
  7. If on the roof you want to make a place for sunbathing, make an open veranda or use the roof deck in some other way.

However, there are also disadvantages to a pitched roof. The most important thing is the inability to make an attic or attic. Often snow accumulates on a flat roof, which must be cleaned off. In this case, the roof must be well insulated and insulated. It is necessary to choose roofing material, taking into account the possibility of prolonged accumulation of snow on the roof.

Construction technology

Most often, inclined rafters are used for frame houses. The technology of erecting such a shed roof is to create walls of different heights. As a result, the rafters are supported and fixed with their lower end on the floor beams. A high wall or rack is a support for the truss system in its upper part. It is also desirable to install additional slopes or racks that will make the structure more rigid and durable. This shed roof technology is used not only for frame houses, but also for brick and block houses, which is demonstrated by many projects.

As we know, during the construction of frame houses, great importance is attached to ventilation. The roof can also be ventilated or non-ventilated. A non-ventilated roof usually has a slight slope and must be carefully waterproofed and insulated. The ventilated roof has a gap between the roof and the ceiling, as a result of which the service life of the material is extended by removing water vapor from the insulation.

Do not forget that the choice of roofing material depends on the angle of inclination you choose. Recently popular material such as soft tiles, involves an angle of inclination of up to 10 degrees. Decking is recommended to be used at an angle of 10 to 20 degrees. Decking is chosen with a longitudinal profile and a wave height of 3 cm. If the angle of inclination is from 20 degrees, ondulin or slate is used. Metal tiles can be laid if the roof angle is 25 degrees or more.

The shed roof device begins with the installation of a Mauerlat and floor beams. The second stage is the installation of the truss system. All elements of the truss system are made from a dry board 5 mm (thickness). They must be carefully treated with fire protection - it is possible in several layers.

Important: those rafters lying on the end of the walls that do not rest on the side part are fixed to the walls with screws with plugs or anchor bolts. Use a strapping reinforced concrete belt for better fixation!

All rafters must be rigidly fixed to the lower and upper edges of the roof. In the walls (upper trim), nests are prepared in advance, where the floor beams will be laid. They are waterproofed. On the floor beams or on the Mauerlat, the lower part of the rafter legs is fixed. Stronger fixation is performed using metal pads. Intermediate struts and struts are used to make the structure even more rigid. Struts and racks are installed on the floor beams. For fixing, staples or metal corners are also used.

To make an even structure, start the installation from the extreme rafter legs. A rope is pulled between them and, guided by it, the rest of the rafters are laid. The step is equal to the distance between the floor beams.

Important: when installing rafters, the beam must be installed with an “edge”, this will help to maximize the resistance to deflection. As a result, you will get a flat roof even after many years.

Variety of projects with one floor

Sometimes one gets the impression that a one-story house cannot be interesting and eye-catching. And if a shed roof is also being built, giving up to 25% savings, then such a house will be boring and simple. However, this is not the case.

Today, projects of one-story houses are very diverse. Let's consider some of them. These projects can be taken as the basis of your future home, finalized, changed, added some solutions and used. One-story houses are easy to build with your own hands, you can find additional information on the self-construction of one-story frame houses.

First project:

It is a house 10.1x15.2m. As we can see, it has 4 rooms that can be used as bedrooms for each family member, as well as one large common living room. The living room has access to the open veranda and the kitchen. The house has two bathrooms, the first of which has a toilet and sink, and the second has a full bath, toilet, bidet. The kitchen also has a small utility room where you can install a washing machine.

Second project:

It is an original elongated house, the length of which is 19.36 m. The width of the house is 12.45 m at its widest point (where the garage is). The house has 4 rooms, a kitchen and a large hall. The project includes 2 bathrooms. There is no access to the garage from the house.

Third project:

It is a house with a large veranda leading from the living room, a porch and 5 rooms, with built-in wardrobes, wardrobes and a large living room. We also see an extension-garage, which can be entered directly from the house. The house has dimensions of 14.94x16.14m. The house captivates with an abundance of rooms, conveniently located for all family members.

Of course, in our article we will not be able to consider all the projects, but on the basis of the considered ones, we can see that even single-slope one-story houses are not alike, and can satisfy the needs of any person.

Pitched roofs are divided into 8 large groups, among which a special place is occupied by the type of roof with one inclined plane.

Of course, hardly anyone can compete with, whose peak of popularity fell in the second half of the last century.

However, in our time, specialists and construction customers are increasingly focusing on .

The essence and peculiarity of such a shelter is extremely simple. The load-bearing structure rests on multi-level external walls.

This phenomenon has a very attractive appearance, but due to its structural features, it is not advisable to use it to create the "top" of a house, cottage or any other important building or room.

One sloping surface is ideal for a veranda, terrace, as well as storage and utility rooms.

One of the main advantages of this eaves is wind resistance.. A certain option is due to the design, since in this case we are not talking about serious slopes of the covered surface.

ATTENTION!

To reduce the dependence on precipitation in the form of snow, it is necessary to carefully approach the calculation of the sections of the structural components during the design period. Regarding insulation - this aspect is especially important at minimum angles of inclination.

Thus, the area of influence of the wind force is significantly reduced, which leads to a stable resistance to air gusts. If the room is located in an area prone to frequent winds, experts advise the installation of curbs.

Therefore, these measures will reduce the likelihood of roofing to a minimum. It is advisable to use galvanized iron or tiles as the top layer of the curb in order to avoid damp fences.

Very often, when it comes to construction or repair, a person tries to buy the necessary materials as profitably as possible and at budget prices. A canopy with one slope fits perfectly into the “economy” category, and besides, cheap prices are not displayed in any way on its appearance.

For example, Costs compared to a gable surface are two times less.

The construction content of the shed roofing process does not require special knowledge and many years of experience in the architectural field. Everything is extremely simple, so you can take on this business with your own hands. Quite uncomplicated and.

In addition to the above advantages, we note the following:

  • Rational use of available space in the attic. As an option - the creation of an attic floor;
  • Relatively light weight of the inclined plane, which eliminates the connection to the process of establishing lifting equipment;
  • No restrictions due to the area of the house;
  • High level of maintainability;
  • Possibility of choice (the only nuance is taking into account the angle of inclination);
  • Preconditions for the installation of solar panels.

Installation of solar panels

The list of shortcomings is much less:

  • For the sake of a nice appearance, you need to try. Focus on the quality of materials and facade work;
  • Increased sensitivity to snow loads;
  • The need to strengthen the hydro and inclined plane;
  • Complicated organization due to fluid flow to one side.

Increased sensitivity to snow loads

Is it worth making a private house with a pitched roof?

Despite the fact that in most cases similar ideas do not receive the approval of professionals, there are situations when a house with this type of roof is a reasonable and safe solution.

CAREFULLY!

A roof with one slope is difficult to tolerate rainfall resistance.

Therefore, no precipitation - no problem, therefore being in an area with a dry climate, this idea can be safely implemented.

The slope in such a situation should be set within 5%. In its turn, cold or temperate regions, which is more or less spent under snowfall, not very suitable for almost flat roofs.

But if 10-20 years ago the geographical "diagnosis" was perceived as a sentence, now they will simply take up increasing the strength of the future roof. If you still achieve a slope in the range of 90-100%, then the idea is really expedient. At the present time, there are many opportunities in the construction industry, but be prepared for additional costs.

Shed roof design - what you need to know?

Inclined planes are classified according to different criteria. In particular, this applies to emphasis. There are two varieties - with an emphasis on load-bearing walls of different or the same height .

The first option is used more often., but the stumbling block may be the lack of a high external wall, which will exclude the establishment of a high slope. Second concept does not imply this, but this, perhaps, the pluses end - he much more expensive.

The slope issue is one of the main ones. The optimal range fluctuates around 10-30 degrees, the extreme frames are 5-60 degrees.

The number depends on the following factors:

  • Precipitation volume;
  • Wind flow indicators;
  • Chosen roofing material.

The more precipitation in the area, the greater the slope. For example, in regions with heavy snowfall, the slope should be at least 40 degrees. Otherwise, there is a risk of damage to the supporting structures due to accumulated precipitation.

Below are the degree correspondences to the types of shelter:

  • 5-7 degrees for roofing material;
  • 3 degrees higher than the y range;
  • 25-35 - for;
  • Slightly lower requirements are put forward for slate (20-30 degrees), almost the same for seam roofing (18-28).

It is advisable to increase the degree marks by several units in those areas where a lot of snow falls. Such non-compliance does not apply to metal tiles, because it threatens with water ingress due to the low density of the seams.

An equally relevant issue is the definition of the type of roof in the context of ventilated / non-ventilated. In the first case, we are talking about a reliable and durable house surface, while the second option is suitable for “light” rooms ala terrace and through a minimum slope (4-6 degrees) can bring a lot of worries in winter.

As a material for a single-pitched top, the undisputed leader in requests is the wood of the “family” of conifers. This is due to resistance to decay, mold and other evil spirits. Pay attention to the percentage of humidity - the indicator should not exceed 20-22.

As a preventative pest control we advise you to treat the tree with flame retardant and antiseptic.

Varieties of design and engineering

The top with one slope is not a limiter in the fantasy of shaping the shape of the roof.

Many successful projects have been implemented, within which they created a "broken" roof or through facades.

It is not necessary to copy the idea seen live or on the Internet - this kind of house top is supportive of various architectural collages.

Projects of houses with a pitched roof:

Project example #1. Private house with an area of 240 sq.m. Additional premises and ground floor are not provided. Cellular concrete is used as a wall material, and reinforced concrete slabs are the basis of the foundation. Facing - plaster or wooden lath to choose from.

Project example #2. Two-storey house of 225 sq.m with an attic, a garage, a balcony on the 2nd floor. The foundation, as in the first example, is made of aerated concrete walls with brick cladding. It is possible to use decorative tiles. Type of roof - to choose from, taking into account climatic conditions.

The main task is to harmoniously reunite those examples that are collected in one project. Attention should be paid to the possibility of installing solar panels, which have already been mentioned above - this will make the roof even more functional. A competent one will keep your home safe and sound for a long time.

For the Russian region, houses with a traditional gable roof are currently of the greatest relevance. And when building country houses, there is no question at all. Projects of such houses still often remain without deserved attention, although in fact, such constructions allow not only to emphasize the character of the owners of the house, but also save on materials, as well as expand their capabilities when decorating the house: both internal and external. We propose to consider the pros and cons of houses with a shed roof, as well as projects of one-story, two-story houses and cottages, with a photo selection attached to them.

Shed roof houses: what are the advantages and disadvantages of buildings of this type

Traditionally, most owners of private houses and cottages prefer to design their homes with a traditional layout, and, accordingly, a gable roof. Projects of houses with a shed roof are a rather infrequent occurrence in the world of construction, although it cannot be said that they are inferior to everyone else in some way. On the contrary, such designs look very original, more profitable from an economic point of view.

In addition, thanks to modern building technologies and high-quality roofing materials, you can create an original and reliable house that will fully justify the concept of "a house is its own fortress", delighting the owner with good quality and comfort.

Two-story house with a pitched roof

Shed roof houses are in great demand in the United States and European countries, especially in cold countries due to some features of such structures. Therefore, such houses are especially relevant for the predominantly cold climate of Russia.

The advantages of houses with a shed roof include:

  • Significant savings in roofing material, as well as the material necessary for the construction of the roof structure. You can further reduce the cost of materials by using relatively inexpensive and fairly simple roofing materials, since they are not visible to the eye.
  • Installation work for houses with a pitched roof is a fairly simple process, which allows you to do it yourself.
  • A shed roof is ideal for windy regions because it has low windage.
  • The design feature of the roof greatly simplifies the collection of precipitation.
  • Convenience of a roof for carrying out repair work in case of need.
  • Great option for large houses.
  • You can fully use the attic space by designing an excellent attic with large windows.

But it was not without drawbacks:

  • The importance of accurately made calculations of the cross section of all elements of the designed structure. Otherwise, the roof may simply not be able to cope with the snow load.
  • When designing a roof with a small angle of inclination, especially enhanced hydro and thermal insulation will be required.
  • Not a very attractive look. In order to avoid this, you will have to use rather expensive roofing materials and carry out roofing work in a particularly high-quality way.

Design features and operating rules

When building a house with a flat roof, there are several important features to consider:

Shed roof does not allow to equip the attic
  1. If the project provides for a house without an attic and the roof is combined with the ceiling, then it is necessary to use roofing materials of especially high quality and involve construction professionals in the construction work so that the roof is made absolutely tight and has good thermal insulation properties.
  2. If the attic is nevertheless provided according to the project of the house, then servicing the roof from the inside will be quite difficult and inconvenient due to the relatively low ceiling and lowering the height of the roof from the top edge to the bottom.
  3. The complexity of the facade work. With a poor-quality and roughly done facade, the house will look just like a big barn. Small details will also significantly affect the appearance of the building.

Advice. Particular attention should be paid to the decorative element of the exterior of the house - all materials used must not only be of the highest quality, but also carefully selected colors and textures are important. If a lot of additional details are provided, this will significantly reduce the requirements for finishing the facade.

Since houses with a shed roof are a rather unusual design solution, such a house should be operated without forgetting about the correct and timely care of the roof:

  1. Clear the roof of snow more often, especially during heavy snowfalls and during the snowmelt period in spring.
  2. Constantly monitor the condition of the structural elements of the roof and eliminate the detected shortcomings or breakdowns in time.

Projects of houses with a pitched roof

For those who are ready to depart from traditions and bring something new into their lives, designers offer original and high-quality solutions for the home. Let's consider them briefly.

One-story houses with pitched roofs. A similar design in the world of modern building materials allows you to take a fresh look at it. Shed roof projects are perfect for those who want to see simplicity and originality in their home at the same time.

For a one-story house, the height of the roof is extremely important: the functionality and size of the attic space and the possibility of mounting additional decorative elements depend on it. Very often, in projects for a house with a shed roof, an additional roof is provided above the porch, tilted in the opposite direction relative to the main roof.

One-story house with a flat roof

Two-story houses with a pitched roof can be built in such a way as not to focus too much on decorating the first floor of the house. At the same time, with such a roof design, you can equip a spacious balcony on the second floor or mount panoramic windows.

Very often, in the projects of two-story houses with a flat roof, they rely on the contrast of the floors, at the same time combining an ascetic and restrained first floor and an elegant second. Such houses always look very elegant and modern.

Cottages with pitched roofs. Houses of this type are most often represented by a laconic rectangular design with a small. Their distinguishing feature is a common idea for all the structural elements of the house and at the same time a subtle difference between each of them. The roof is usually built at an angle of 30 degrees, which helps prevent the accumulation of precipitation during the cold season. This is a great option for a country house.

Cottage with pitched roof

Timber houses. The main tasks assigned to houses of this type: efficiency, environmental friendliness, rigor, warmth of the structure. Using a flat roof will reduce heating costs. In addition, a frame made of timber will make it possible to build a truss structure with a large margin of safety.

Difficult at first glance, houses with a pitched roof, as you can see, are reliable, original and simple. We have introduced you in general terms to the main features and capabilities of these structures. We hope the information was useful to you.
