How to remove a drip on the ceiling with a folk remedy. How to remove stains from leaks on the ceiling

Often there are situations when various yellow spots or stains appear on the ceiling or walls.

We find out the reason for their appearance

Before you remove the stains that have appeared on the surface of the ceiling, you need to find the cause of their appearance. This will determine how they are removed. This may be damage to the roof on the roof, high humidity, dampness, poor ventilation or lack of it, but most often this happens after flooding by neighbors from the upper floors.

In our case, the batteries were turned off in the middle of winter. The risers are plastic, and the neighbors did not notice that they had a pipe flowing at the junction. We see the result in the photo.

We use chlorine-containing products - checked by the editors

So, we had to remove yellow stains from the surface of the ceiling after water leaked from the upper floors. The simplest method was chosen - bleaching with "Whiteness" or another chlorine-containing agent.

Ideally, using a spatula, carefully clean the area from the top layer of plaster. Then, after complete drying, finishing work will be required.

But in our case, this was not necessary, the whitewash did not “lag behind”, the stain was even, smooth, it only remained to bleach it. Here is our step by step algorithm of actions.

Pour “Whiteness” into a convenient small container, moisten a foam sponge in it.

Apply with the soft side to the stain, fixing for 5-10 seconds. Walk like this over its entire surface.

Wait for the area to dry completely and repeat the procedure again. As soon as the sponge becomes dirty, it must be changed.

The method is quite laborious, but you can do it slowly, we stretched it out for almost a week. We processed it - let it dry, the next day, in the morning and in the evening, we went through “Whiteness” again, etc.

After the first treatment, and even the second, third, it seemed that this method did not work. But gradually the spot began to lighten.

Yes, there was a specific smell, especially in the early days, but it passed quickly.

Note: after processing the ceiling, do not open the vents or windows for ventilation, everything can dry out with stains and you will have to remove them as well.

Removing water stains mechanically

To get rid of them, you can resort to a mechanical method by doing the following:

  1. From the problem area with a spatula, clean the layer of whitewash, paint, plaster to the base coat.
  2. Wipe the cleaned area with a damp cloth and wait until the ceiling is completely dry.
  3. Use sandpaper to clean up all the bumps.
  4. Get rid of existing dust with a brush.
  5. Apply a coat of primer with a roller.
  6. After the final drying of the area, apply a layer of putty.
  7. After drying the ceiling, clean it with sandpaper, if necessary, prime again, and paint or whiten.

To remove the yellow spot from the ceiling, everyone chooses the right way for himself. As you can see, in some cases, you can independently cope with a similar problem.

Hello, reader of the site about DIY repairs BabyRemont.ru.

It is hard to argue with the fact that yellow spots and stains on the ceiling or walls will please few people. They are the destroyers of the beautiful interior of the living space. It is especially unpleasant, to put it mildly, if you have recently made repairs with your own hands. Therefore, the agonizing question arises: how to remove water or rust stains on the ceiling and walls with your own hands.

I’ll make a reservation right away that it is necessary to start work on removal by determining the causes and conditions for the appearance of pollution. There may be several.

  • Unreliable roof leak. Carry out a thorough inspection of it, and if there are leaks, repair the roof.
  • Damp and damp room. Excessive dampness and moisture in the room is fertile ground for the appearance of rust spots and stains, as well as fungus and mold on the ceiling and walls. Get rid of damp moisture indoors.
  • The presence of microcracks in the ceiling and walls. Contributes to the spread of dampness and excessive condensation in the room. Conduct a thorough inspection and repair microcracks.
  • Leakage of water and sewer pipes. Conduct a thorough inspection and eliminate the causes of leaks.
  • Water leakage from neighbors as a result of pipe bursts, flooding, sewage problems, and so on.
  • Metal spatula (width 100 mm);
  • Sponge or piece of foam rubber;
  • plastic basin;
  • Brush (width 30mm);
  • Paint roller and tray;
  • Paint jar.
  • Remove wallpaper or wash off whitewash from a contaminated surface, peel off putty down to plaster or drywall.
  • If the surface is painted, soak the stain with a damp sponge and clean off the paint and putty with a spatula.
  • Pour whiteness into a plastic bowl and soak a sponge or piece of foam rubber in it.
  • Treat the entire cleaned surface by wringing out the sponge and pressing it firmly against the stain for a while. If the stain is larger than a sponge, then process in several passes, soaking area by area. Soak the entire stain in this way. Continue the procedure until the yellow spot brightens.
  • Wait until the treated surface is completely dry. If after drying the stain is not completely lightened, repeat the operation again. Instead of whiteness, you can use other solutions and paste described below.
  • Prime the treated area with deep penetration acrylic primer with a roller and brush and let it dry for 24 hours.
  • Paint the primed surface with several coats of oil paint and let it dry.
  • Prime the entire surface with an acrylic primer and allow it to dry for 24 hours.
  • Cover the surface with a layer of acrylic putty and dry for at least a day.
  • Clean the putty with fine sandpaper (180-200), especially carefully go through the transition points from the new to the old surface and prime the surface again.
  • After complete drying, paint the repaired area with the same paint that was used to paint the ceiling or walls.
  • Repaint the entire ceiling or wall with your base paint.
  • If you decide to apply another decorative coating or wallpaper, then the two previous points do not need to be done.

Instead of whiteness, you can use the following do-it-yourself solutions.

For treatment with a solution of grass (vitriol primer):

  • stir in 1 liter of water 250 g of copper sulfate,
  • dissolve another 250 g of bone glue in 1 liter of water,
  • grate 250 g of laundry soap on a grater,
  • pour soap and pour 40 g of drying oil into a solution of bone glue,
  • mix the two resulting solutions,
  • treat the contamination with a solution diluted with water in a ratio of 1:10.

For processing with a solution of copper sulfate:

  • dissolve 400-500 g of copper sulfate in 5 liters of water,
  • heat the mixture to 70 degrees,
  • Wet the stains with this solution three to four times at intervals of 2 hours, and after drying, the surface should acquire a greenish tint.

For treatment with hydrochloric acid solution:

  • heat a 3% hydrochloric acid solution to 40 degrees,
  • wash stains and stains until they disappear,
  • rinse the surface with warm water.

To process with chalk and lemon paste:

  • mix 2 parts chalk and 1 part citric acid,
  • add a little glycerin and water to the resulting mixture,
  • apply the mixture to the yellow spot on the ceiling or wall,
  • soak for about 30 - 40 minutes,
  • rinse with warm water
  • repeat the procedure until the maximum disappearance of the stain.

When carrying out measures to remove yellow water and rust stains and stains, always remember:

  • The most important and first thing is the elimination of the causes and conditions for the appearance of pollution. If this is not done, your efforts will be short-term and in vain.
  • It is mandatory to use protective equipment for the eyes, respiratory tract, head and skin of the body.

As for the ceiling, you can go the other way, radically changing tactics:

  • clean the contaminated surface with a spatula,
  • prime it with a deep penetration primer,
  • glue ceiling tiles or install a stretch ceiling.

How to remove yellow spots on the ceiling: types and methods of elimination

Spots on the ceiling quite often appear in our apartment or house. This unpleasant moment worries many people. Especially if after a recent repair on your snow-white ceilings they appear from nowhere. Unfortunately, not everyone knows how to deal with this phenomenon, and this article is designed to help you get rid of stains on the ceiling.

To begin with, you should tell you about where the stains come from, because there can be several types of them. This will help you better understand how to clean yellow stains from the ceiling and how to prevent their occurrence in the future.

Removing stains from the ceiling

Types of stains

oil stains

In most cases, they appear from the use of oil paints. Until recently, it was considered very beautiful to paint the ceiling with such paints, they created a durable and easy-to-clean surface. The problem of our time was the fact that oil paints impregnate the surface very deeply, and even after complete washing off from the ceiling, the oil eventually appears on the surface. Removing such a stain on the ceiling is quite difficult.

moisture stains

  • I think that a long description of their appearance would be superfluous here, because many people have come across them. Someone's roof leaked, others were flooded by neighbors from above, this leads to the fact that a large yellow spot remains on the ceiling after drying. This type of stain is much easier to deal with than greasy stains from oil paints.

rust stains

Stain from a rusting water pipe

  • For new houses and apartments, such spots are quite rare. They form due to corrosion of rebar and pipes in ceilings as the rust travels through the concrete to the ceiling surface. The usual painting with water-based paint will not help. If you have such stains, do not waste energy and money on multiple layers of paint, because in order to completely get rid of them, the surface must be prepared properly.

Fungal spots

  • The most annoying of all. They not only spoil the appearance of your ceiling, but are also very harmful to health and can cause allergies. Fighting them is difficult and rarely manages with a simple repair of the surface on which the fungus has formed. But even with it you can fight, because on the modern market a fairly wide range of tools is provided to remove it.

Stain removal

Due to the fact that stains on the ceiling can be of different origin, it is logical to assume that the methods for eliminating them are also different. What to do with stains and how to eliminate these "blots" spoiling the appearance of our ceiling.

oil stains

Oil stains, as mentioned earlier, are quite difficult to get rid of.

In this regard, they are usually not deleted, but simply "blocked".

Tip: Grease stains on the stretch ceiling are washed off with a soft, lint-free cloth or sponge using dish detergent.

Wipe the spot on the stretch ceiling with a soft cloth

moisture stains

Residents of apartments often encounter such yellow spots. As you might have guessed, this refers to cases where the upstairs neighbors forget to turn off the tap in the bathroom. Also, in old apartments, the water supply and sewerage systems leave much to be desired and leaks occur quite often.

Residents of private houses are not without this problem, as rainwater or melting snow passes through the old roof. Subsequently, spots are formed, which, even after repeated puttying and staining, still appear on the surface.

How to remove stains on the ceiling:

Spots then rust

The appearance of this type of stain is associated with corrosion of reinforcement and old pipes inside the ceilings. In most cases, they "go out" to the ceiling at the same time as flooding, because moisture is needed for the appearance of rust on the metal.

How to remove stains on the ceiling:

  • Treatment with copper sulphate. This method has many supporters and is used quite often. At the same time, there are probably more opponents of this method, they argue that after such a treatment, the spots return over time.
  • "Toilet Duck". Human ingenuity has no limits. In the fight against stains, some people have tried using a "toilet duck" with a rust removal function. It is claimed that this method is very effective and leaves no streaks.

Fungal spots

Growing fungus spots

Two factors contribute to the growth of mold and fungus on the ceiling - moisture and stagnant air. Therefore, before proceeding with the fight against the fungus, it is necessary to think about changing the ventilation system in the apartment. In most cases, the fungus appears in winter on cold walls where condensation forms, such places need to be insulated. After all, no matter how you eliminate fungal stains, make sure that they do not have the opportunity to appear again. Otherwise, all your hard work will go to waste.

How to remove yellow spots from the fungus.

  1. Wash the wall well with a damp cloth.
  2. Treat with copper sulfate, and preferably with special antifungal agents. If the fungus has been on the ceiling for a long time, then only the complete burning out of the mycelium with a blowtorch will help.
  3. Primer, putty, sanding, painting.

Stains after painting

Stains after painting are formed on the ceiling as a result of a violation of the puttying and painting technology, namely:

  • heterogeneity of the puttied surface, when putties of different layers are visible in the gaps;
  • the use of "dark" putties;
  • long breaks between all stages of puttying and staining;
  • incorrect puttying and staining technologies;

In conclusion, I would like to say the most important thing. Regardless of what stains you have and how you will treat them, the main thing is to eliminate the cause of their appearance, because no remedy will help if the roof is leaking, or the neighbor is constantly dripping from the pipe. Spots are not the worst, in extreme cases, you can make a suspended or stretched one" width="640" height="360" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen">

  • stains after painting are also formed if you use incompatible types of primer and paint for the ceiling.
  • In conclusion, I would like to say the most important thing. Regardless of what stains you have and how you will treat them, the main thing is to eliminate the cause of their appearance, because no remedy will help if the roof is leaking, or the neighbor is constantly dripping from the pipe. Spots are not the worst, in extreme cases, you can make a suspended or stretch ceiling.

    How to remove yellow spots on the ceiling

    Yellow spots on the walls and ceiling of the apartment are an unpleasant, difficult to deduce phenomenon that manifests itself with invariable persistence. The owners simply fall into hysteria when, over and over again, despite all the measures taken, yellowness comes out. The underlying reason for the appearance of such spots can be different reasons, but the algorithm for dealing with this scourge is always the same. First of all, the reason for the appearance of yellow spots is identified, then the established cause is eliminated, only after that the traces of the negative impact, that is, the spots themselves, are removed. Trying to make do with minor cosmetic repairs will help for a short time, but until the root cause is corrected, the yellowness will disfigure the interior of your apartment again and again.

    Yellow spots on the ceiling causes

    Finding the cause of the appearance of yellow spots, despite its apparent simplicity, sometimes becomes the most difficult task to solve. The problem is exacerbated by the fact that it can occur sporadically, depending on the most incredible factors.

    water flow

    The most common reason. It may be the result of a banal leak, from neighbors from above, but may not be so obvious. An example is the leakage of a cast-iron sewer pipe, laid from the toilet to the riser, lying below the floor level and completely walled up. The occurrence of a crack in the middle part of the pipe caused leaks. The pipe leaked after many years of operation, for no apparent reason. I had to spend a lot of time, nerves before the root cause was discovered.

    A more sophisticated case, moisture seepage, occurred in one of the apartments in a panel house. Atmospheric precipitation fell through the junction of the outer panels into the cavity of the floor slab and from there it seeped into the apartment in the most unexpected place.

    Water leakage is the most common cause of yellow spots.

    The examples given show that water flow paths can be of the most improbable origin and therefore difficult to detect.

    The appearance of yellow marks may be a consequence of other events that occurred in the apartment. For example, due to a violation of balanced air exchange that occurred after the installation of double-glazed windows or blockage of the ventilation shaft. A slight increase in humidity in the apartment, with seeming insignificance, can be that small step that was not enough for the manifestation of unpleasant consequences.

    The appearance of yellowness, of course, is not pleasing to the eye, but this is not the worst consequence of moisture seepage. Read more about what can happen in the article "What is the danger of mold on the walls in the apartment."

    Traces from nearby metal

    The appearance of a flaw may indicate that metal parts are close: fittings, pipes, mortgages. And that the metal began to rust intensively. This is again the effect of water or high humidity.

    The reaction between the compositions of the means used

    This reason is rare, but if the apartment is old and it has been repeatedly renovated, it is not excluded. It is impossible to calculate the consequences of possible reactions between newly applied and old solutions.

    Isolation of combustion products of electrical wiring insulation

    The problem is the discrepancy between the cross section of the laid electrical wiring and the increased load. Electrical insulation from elevated temperature begins to burn (melt), release toxic combustion products.

    How to remove yellow spots

    Only after the source of the appearance of yellow spots is identified and eliminated, you can begin to remove the consequences.

    With a spatula, remove the exfoliated putty, plaster. Let's apply the “Whiteness” tool, with the help of a sponge, we will blot, not exactly wet, but delay the movement with some effort each time pressing. As the color of the sponge changes, change it. We process all places. We let it dry and again methodically repeat the operation until the yellowness ceases to appear.

    Applied chemicals

    Sodium hypochlorite. Powerful oxidizer. It is used for cleaning, bleaching, disinfection.

    Copper vitriol.

    copper sulfate. Very hygroscopic. Disinfectant, antiseptic. It is used to remove efflorescence, as a means of combating mold.

    In times of total shortage, recipes for all kinds of grouts and herbs to remove yellowness were passed from mouth to mouth. Now self-pallet has been replaced by hydrophobic cement-based putties, for example: Bazsilk - 30, SHM - F. In the latter case, do not be embarrassed by the presence of the letter “F”, facade. Putty is also used for interior work.

    A radical way to deal with yellow spots in the apartment

    If all else fails, clean the problem area, and then paint it with white oil paint. Let the paint dry completely, and it dries for a long time, then paint again and dry again. So, 2 - 4 times. The process is slow and requires endurance, but it is the most effective. Speeding up work, imposing a new layer on a wet previous one, will lead to the fact that the entire “layer cake” will subsequently fall off.

    How to fix leak stains on the ceiling?

    Quite often, residents of apartment buildings suffer from flooding from the upper floors or as a result of leaks from leaky roofs. The yellow stains that appeared on the plaster spoil the design of the apartment, which absolutely does not please its owners. How to fix leak stains on the ceiling?

    The peculiarity of eliminating the consequences of leaks is that it is necessary to make cosmetic repairs to the entire surface of the ceiling. Repair of individual sections is unacceptable - the ceiling will look even worse.

    How to eliminate traces of leakage on the ceiling?

    1. First of all, you need to remove the old plaster. Using a regular roller, you need to moisten the layer of whitewash, and after a while scrape it off with a metal brush. Small particles are simply washed off with water.

    2. When the ceiling dries well, it must be treated with a primer. This is necessary so that the surface is prepared for finishing. If cracks are found, they must be repaired with an acrylic-based plastic putty.

    3. After the primer has dried, the surface of the ceiling must be made smooth by grinding. For grinding the surface use a fine "skin".

    4. The second time we cover the ceiling with a primer, remove traces of stains using matte paint, and again let the ceiling dry.

    5. After that, the primed and smooth surface of the ceiling is prepared for finishing. Instead of simple lime plaster, it is better to use acrylic paint for this work, with which the ceiling is covered in two layers.

    Before starting repairs, it is necessary to protect floors, wooden doors and plumbing fixtures with plastic wrap. This will save the interior from possible drops of primer and paint, as well as from the ubiquitous plaster dust.

    In new buildings, builders create a layer of floor waterproofing in places where there are many water pipes. In houses built a long time ago, there is no such protection. In order to avoid trouble with neighbors, during the next repair, arrange reliable floor insulation in the bathroom and in the kitchen. To do this, it is better to turn to professionals, since without special skills it is almost impossible to perform this difficult operation.

    If your apartment is located on the top floor, and the roof over your apartment sometimes leaks, then you will need to contact the Housing Office to resolve this issue. Be prepared for the fact that it will take a lot of time and effort to solve this problem.

    It is very offensive when, after a recent repair, a neighbor drowns you from above and on the ceiling, even after it has completely dried out, yellow spots suddenly appear, increasing in size.

    The reason for this unpleasant event is the interfloor slabs that have not completely dried out.

    Even if the plaster on your ceiling is dry, stains can still show through after a while. If the house is old or even new, but the pipes of engineering systems are rusted in the ceilings or the reinforcement in the monolith rusts, it can also show through on the ceiling sooner or later, especially if the corrosion process is accelerated by flooding.

    The best way to eliminate the consequences of this event is to make a claim to the upstairs neighbor and ask him to eliminate the consequences of a utility accident. However, it happens that you don’t want to spoil relations with neighbors, and the trouble is not so great. In this case, you can try to eliminate the consequences of the flood on your own.

    We will figure out how to remove yellow spots, rust and smudges on the ceiling after flooding and leakage from negligent neighbors.

    So, what should you do if yellow stains remain on the ceiling after the flood? When working with any damp ceiling, the first step is to turn off the electricity at the meter. You do not yet know where the water leaked and how close it went to the wiring.

    Method 1 - mechanical

    This is the most common method that does not require the use of any chemicals. With a spatula, we clean off old paint, putty, plaster, as long as possible or until we remove the damaged surfaces. We wipe the opened area with a damp cloth and wait a bit until the ceiling dries. After that, apply a deep penetration primer with a roller.

    We take the finishing putty and apply it with a spatula to the ceiling. We level the surface and wait for it to set. Using sandpaper, we grind surface defects, preparing the ceiling for finishing. Then prime it again with the same primer.

    At the end, paint the ceiling again with a roller or brush. If there is any doubt that the shades of the old painting and the new one are identical, you will have to completely repaint the entire ceiling. The ceiling is usually painted in 2 layers.

    If you use whitewash, you need to apply it in 2 layers after preliminary preparation. You can simply whiten the stain if it is small in size: the focus is blurred, primed, whitewash is applied in 2 layers.

    Method 2, chlorine-containing

    So, the flood stopped, the ceiling dried up. How to get rid of traces of disaster and how to remove yellow spots on the ceiling after a leak?

    You will need:

    • whiteness or other chlorine-containing agent (it can be ACE bleach or even toilet chlorine duck);
    • rubber gloves (put on old clothes so that drops of whiteness, accidentally falling on it, do not spoil your home);
    • 2-3 foam sponges or a small foam roller for painting;
    • container for the solution (a container for paint is suitable).

    First you need to clean the ceiling from previous layers of finishing materials and plaster. Then pour whiteness into a container, put on gloves, moisten a sponge or roller in the solution and proceed to processing.

    Apply the sponge to the stain and fix in this position for 5 seconds. Then blot again and process again. Thus, walk over the entire area of the spot.

    At the moment when the sponge turns red, it should be changed. Thus, the ceiling should be treated until the spots brighten as much as possible. After processing, you need to wait until the ceiling dries, and carry out finishing work.

    Advice. If you have hydrochloric acid on hand, you can treat it with a 3% hydrochloric acid solution heated to 40 degrees.

    Method 3, for rust control

    It is much more difficult to deal with the consequences of a utility failure if the leak has affected the rusty pipes in the floor slab, and along with ordinary water, rusty particles have leaked onto your ceiling. How to remove rust from the ceiling after a leak?

    To effectively process bright red stains, you will need:

    • 10% copper sulfate;
    • ordinary red laundry soap;
    • bone glue;
    • drying oil;
    • rubber gloves;
    • roller, sponge or brush.

    To prepare the mixture, 250 g of vitriol, the same amount of soap chips, bone glue and 40 g of drying oil are mixed.

    Also follows clean the plaster and paint layer to the maximum possible depth. The mixture is poured into a container, the roller is dipped into the mixture and the entire area is processed.

    You can simplify this method a little. That is, treat the affected area with copper sulfate, prime, putty and, after puttying, paint over with oil paint. Oil paint forms a fairly dense film on the ceiling, the stain will not show through it again. Then, if the ceiling was previously painted with a water-based emulsion, paint over the entire surface with it.

    Important! If the stain appears again and again, until you create a waterproof film in this place, all efforts will be in vain: the yellow spot will appear again and again.

    Method 4, to save stretch fabrics

    You can not discount the situation when the stretch ceiling and spots on the main ceiling, in principle, do not matter. But if there was a leak and the water was safely drained from the stretch ceiling, yellowness can also appear on the stretch fabric. In this case, you should call the installer and ask what kind of paint you can paint over this canvas.

    Depending on the type of canvas, processing can be carried out. Fabric canvases can be dyed up to 5, and sometimes even up to 10 times. PVC films should be cleaned with soapy water or ordinary dishwashing detergent.

    In the most difficult case, it will be necessary to carry out treatment with ordinary soda ash. A 5% solution will help clean the canvas, which must be applied to the painted area, wait for it to dry, and then rinse with warm water. This procedure can be repeated several times until the stain disappears completely.

    Method 5, to save plasterboard ceilings

    The same trouble can befall the owners of beautiful solid plasterboard ceilings. Unfortunately, moisture damage to drywall can be especially severe, because moisture will spread inside the drywall. In this case, the drywall sheet will not only turn yellow, but also swell and deform.

    Important! If there is a suspicion that the leak was strong, you will have to pierce the sheet with a knife or a long screwdriver and drain all the water. then proceed to the reconstruction of the ceiling.

    Using the tapping method, you should determine the size of the affected area and try to replace part of the sheet. Most often it has to change the entire sheet(which, of course, is dreary and unpleasant, but still possible), and then carry out completely finishing work.

    About yellow spots

    The easiest way to solve the problem is if there is a leak in the ceiling trimmed with PVC plastic panels and they are left with a yellow coating. To eliminate these troubles, it is enough to wipe the PVC panels with a damp cloth.

    There are many different methods, tried and tested, to combat yellow spots. May help in some cases water based stain primer, which is sold in construction hypermarkets.

    Someone just paints over the surface with Beckers Nondrop water-based latex paint. Any paintwork material that creates a strong, dense film on the ceiling surface is suitable.

    How to remove condensation on the ceiling

    Condensation can form on the ceiling in a bathhouse, in a garage, on a loggia, and even in a residential area, if there is unheated non-residential space above it. This is not a particularly good phenomenon, which causes gradual corrosion and structural failure, which must be dealt with.

    Condensation usually occurs in poorly ventilated areas and the ventilation system should be checked or installed first. Insulation of the ceiling will help to eliminate condensate. Insulation can be done with mineral wool insulation or extruded polystyrene foam.

    If condensate has appeared on the ceiling of the cellar or garage and there is the possibility of access from above, then you can sprinkle the floor with expanded clay, sawdust, or spread the same mineral wool material to insulate the floor from above.

    The same method also applies to the case if condensate appeared on the ceiling of a room in a private house, and an unheated attic was on top. In this case, it is enough to insulate the floor of the attic.

    Should know

    When spots appear on the ceiling, the most important thing is find their cause. Because if you think that your neighbor is heating you, but in fact the leak is caused by a burst of pipes in the interfloor ceiling, no cleaning and finishing work will help you until the representatives of the housing office repair the pipes.

    In a private house, yellow spots on the ceiling can form due to a leak in the roof. Then you should also find out the place through which water penetrates inside and carry out waterproofing work.

    In the same way, if, tired of fighting a yellow spot that constantly appears as a result of leaking rusty pipes, you decide to make a stretch ceiling, this will not lead to anything good. Sooner or later, a fungus will appear at the site of the leak, which has the ability to quickly grow and spread.

    Probably, no one will be pleased if you know that you have a flowering space behind the stretch ceiling. You still have to find out the reasons for its appearance and eliminate the leak.

    Video

    Watch a helpful video on how to remove yellow stains after flooding on a ceiling covered with water-based paint:

    The most sophisticated interior of the room loses its appearance when yellow spots appear on the light background of the ceiling. Usually their appearance is associated with water leakage through the ceiling as a result of some kind of accident. Neighbors sometimes heat in apartment buildings, and in private roofing, over time, it loses its tightness. Since most people are not interested in causes, but in eliminating the consequences, it is worth considering in detail how to get rid of yellow spots on the ceiling of a room.

    Where to begin?

    Tip one: do not rush to conclusions, be patient and follow this algorithm:

    1. Make sure that the cause of the stain is corrected and that water leaks through the ceiling do not continue.
    2. Examine the nature of yellow spots and choose a remedy. Do not rush to paint them right away.
    3. Perform removal and, if necessary, finishing work.

    If the place where the yellow spot appears continues to dampen, then the flow of moisture is clearly not stopped. This does not have to be flooding; for the appearance of a visual defect, water dripping onto the ceiling is sufficient. Such leaks are often observed in the corners of the bathroom and toilet, where the water coming from the neighbors has already “plowed” its way. The same with a leaky roof of a building, moisture can seep inside in small portions in inconspicuous places.

    Not so bad when the spot is dry and has yellowish edges. Perhaps he can be easily defeated by folk remedies. It is more difficult if rust appears on the ceiling, then you will have to work hard so that the yellow stains do not appear after some time. There are also grease spots, but they have nothing to do with leaks.

    FOR REFERENCE: RUST COMES FROM THE REINFORCED FRAME OF THE FLOOR PLATE IN CONTACT WITH MOISTURE AND AIR

    Ways to fix the defect

    A dry spot with yellow edges can be removed with a caustic bleach called Whiteness. Putting on rubber gloves and wetting a piece of foam rubber with "Whiteness", you need to thoroughly wet the unsightly stains on the ceiling. Then let the surface dry and, if the result is positive, repeat the operation 2-3 times, sometimes it helps well and the stains disappear.

    Surface cleaning

    In the case of rust or fungus that has appeared, bleach will not help. The issue will have to be resolved radically, up to repainting the entire surface. Applying paint in one place is advisable for recent repairs, otherwise the difference between the new and old coating will become noticeable. The procedure is as follows:

    • cover furniture and household appliances with plastic wrap;
    • clean with a spatula the place where the stain appeared, removing the layer of paint and putty to the very plate;
    • treat rusty stains on the stove with a solution of copper sulfate or citric acid and wait until the iron oxide dissolves (the stains will change color);
    • wash off the acid with water and dry the treated area well.

    TIP: WHEN WORKING IN THE AREA OF THE CHANDELIER OR OTHER PLACES WHERE THE ELECTRIC WIRING IS, DISCONNECT THE ELECTRICITY IN THE HOUSE

    Ceiling putty

    After drying, it is necessary to apply with a brush - an antifungal primer Ceresit CT99 or similar, followed by a deep penetration primer (Ceresit CT17). Between applications it is necessary to withstand the time interval indicated on the package. And the last step is to make finishing work by applying a layer of putty and new paint. Before painting, the hardened putty is leveled with sandpaper.

    By painting the area of the ceiling where there was a yellow spot, you risk getting a new defect, and here's why. A conflict between new and old paint is possible, as a result of which the coating may swell and peel off at the contact boundary. Hence the recommendation: clean off the old paintwork over the entire area and re-paint the ceiling with a roller. Another option is to paste over the surface with wallpaper or polymer tiles.

    Other types of ceilings

    The previous section describes the removal of stains resulting from flooding or leakage through a standard concrete slab covered with putty and paint. But now in apartments the ceilings are trimmed with other materials:

    • suspended drywall systems;
    • stretch ceiling;
    • plastic panels.

    Ordinary drywall absolutely does not tolerate contact with moisture and, after getting wet, must be replaced. The moisture-resistant version of the material is also not designed for water to flow onto it. Worst of all, the leakage of accumulated water occurs at the junction, which is why you have to change 2 adjacent sheets. But do not rush, it is better to first cut out the material that has become unusable. Check if a small piece of drywall can be inserted into its place by screwing it to the lintels between the grid profiles.

    IMPORTANT: DRYING AND PROCESSING THE CONCRETE BASE UNDER THE FACING IS ALSO NECESSARY, OTHERWISE THE FUNGUS WILL APPEAR IN THE PLACE OF STAINS

    Removing rust stains from plastic can also be difficult, but changing 1 or more panels is not difficult. The main thing is to match them to the color of the old ones, for which the panels must be thoroughly washed. There will be no leak spots on stretch ceilings, but after the bubble is eliminated, the material may deform and not return to its original state. Here you can not do without the help of specialists, they will correct the tension coating or replace it entirely.

    Question. We were flooded with upstairs neighbors. Filled specifically. Leaks throughout the apartment, dark water stains on the ceiling and walls in the kitchen, bathroom, hallway and one of the rooms. The wallpaper has peeled off. Please advise how to fix this. From past experience, we know that it is very difficult to paint over leaks, spots and smudges show through the paint, this is especially noticeable on the ceiling. On the walls, the wallpaper also darkens with streaks where the water flowed. Can you recommend something?

    Answer. Really dark spots of streaks are quite difficult to paint over or wallpaper. They tend to show through. But there are reliable technologies.

    First of all, wait for the walls, ceiling and ceiling to dry completely. This will take at least six months. There is no point in renovating before.

    Secondly, remove old wallpaper, peeling paint. If the plaster after pouring began to lag behind or simply became loose, then it must also be removed. If the entire wall has become brittle, then it must be impregnated with a deep-penetrating acrylic bonding primer. The resulting recesses and irregularities need to be leveled. I do it with VGT putty. This putty is excellent for applying and sanding. If the potholes are deep, then putty should be applied in several steps. After the first application, the putty will crack. This is fine. Cracks need to be patched. Sand the resulting surface. Fix small defects with a thin layer of the same putty.

    Thirdly, after the putty has completely dried, you need to put a waterproof paint layer so that stains do not show through. The fact is that water-based paints are all porous, they breathe and let water through. Wallpaper also passes water. Dirt goes along with the water. It is dirt and impurities that show through as spots. The easiest way to make a waterproof layer is to do so. Apply universal alkyd or glyptal primer. I use primer Otex (Tikkurila) or white primer GF-021. Then you need to apply enamel PF-115, then another layer of soil. This enamel is completely waterproof. This provides protection against stains. Water-based paint or wallpaper paste won't stick on top of the enamel, so a second coat of primer is needed. In fact, GF-021 is also waterproof, so if you use this primer, then just two layers of primer are enough, enamel can not be applied, but for reliability it can be applied. If Otex is used, then it is necessary to apply enamel.

    It is possible to apply enamel on the first layer of soil in 4 - 6 hours. The second layer of primer on the enamel can also be applied after 4 - 6 hours. Dry the last layer of soil thoroughly (preferably 24 hours). The application of water-based paints or wallpaper paste on insufficiently dried alkyd or glyphthalic primer leads to curdling of the paint or glue (characteristic lumps form).

    All! You can paint the ceiling or walls, glue wallpaper. Stains after such a repair will not show through.
