How to install a glass door in a sauna. We evaluate the pros and cons of glass doors to the steam room of the Russian and Finnish baths, figure out how to establish what sizes are and what the reviews say

The sauna is a place in constant contact with water. Therefore, the requirements for the installation of bath and sauna doors, for building materials, are increased. In particular, protection from heat, moisture and all the consequences associated with this is very important. A detailed description of the sauna will allow you to properly install it and remain satisfied with the result for a long time.

The choice of a door to a sauna or a bath is to buy the right type of wood and subsequent coating. You can learn more about this from the master finishers. For the correct installation of glass doors to the sauna, you will need the following:

  • canvas with glass inserts or completely made of heat-resistant, impact-resistant glass;
  • components of the door frame;
  • fittings - iron hinges and wooden handles;
  • platbands;
  • fasteners made of stainless steel;
  • insulation and moisture-repellent material.

Actually installing a glass door to the sauna is not too different from the process of installing interior options. From special equipment you will need:

  • screwdriver;
  • a hammer;
  • glass cutter;
  • hacksaw;
  • level and a pencil with a square.

Glass door process

If the proposed door model differs from the canvas with glass inserts in that it is a completely transparent surface, the peculiarity of the work is as follows: the canvas is adjusted to the size of the doorway, taking into account the thickness of the door frame, that is, 3-5 cm less than the total width. Shops offer a wide range of glass doors with pre-made hinges, so you don’t have to mess around when installing the main structure.

If the owner decided to do everything himself, then you have to work with a glass cutter. It should be borne in mind that the texture of the canvas will differ from simple glass and it will take a lot of effort to cut, because the material for the door to the sauna or bath has increased strength.

Having cut out the door leaf, you need to drill holes for the hinges and fasten the “mother” on it with small fasteners, and the “father” on the vertical guide of the box. To decide in which direction the doors will open, you need to immediately place the parts of the door hinges on the same sides.

After that, the installation and assembly of the box is carried out. Its material is usually wooden, but plastic is not forbidden. It is important that the door to the sauna or bath is mounted with a threshold, so the box consists of 4 parts, and not 3, like interior ones. There is no threshold only in the rooms separating the washing compartments. To make the box perfectly level, work is carried out on a level, and in the process the canvas is regularly hung on loops to check for matches or distortions.

When the box is installed, the space between it and the wall is filled with foam, as it has better moisture resistance. The pieces should be compacted carefully and not allowed to protrude. If this still happened, the excess is cut off.

In order to give a finished look to the doors, the places with filler are closed with additional strips. They are either screwed onto self-tapping screws during installation, or nailed with small nails. As a rule, locks are not made on glass doors - only decorative locks. Their choice in building supplies stores is rich.

But wooden doors to the bath still beat all records in popularity. Firstly, their installation is faster due to the strength of the structure, secondly, this is a traditional option, well, and thirdly, the price of wooden canvases is lower than glass. But since the glass in the sauna looks very attractive, the owners still want to install it. There is a way out - you can combine business with pleasure and use door models for baths with glass inserts.

Wooden doors with glass inserts are neither painted nor varnished. This should be taken into account when buying and immediately purchase what you need, without additional finishing.

The door to the sauna with glass inserts, hollow inside, can be insulated in an interesting way by removing it from its grooves and filling the interior with soft insulation: mineral wool, polystyrene foam, etc. You can tamp the material with a wooden handle for a shovel. After that, the glass inserts are mounted back, having previously smeared the grooves with silicone. After hardening and cutting off excess silicone, the glass will not budge and will not rattle.

The canvas is cut with a hacksaw to the desired size.

The tool must be very sharp, with fine teeth, so as not to damage the appearance of the structure. The door to the bath should be with a threshold, so when sawing off, you need to take into account its height.

After that, mark the places for the loops on the canvas and the vertical guide box. Usually it is 20-30 cm from the edges. The loops are screwed to two sides and the workpiece is tried on.

It's time to install the door frame. Before inserting it, it is necessary to drill holes for dowels in the doorway. If the design of the bath is also wooden, this can be omitted. The box is assembled using a level, a screwdriver and self-tapping screws for this purpose. First comes the installation of three parts of the box, and then the threshold. You can and should use spacer wedges: they will help fix the door in the desired state to assess compliance with the level.

After installing the door frame, hang the canvas and nail the platbands, after filling the voids between the wall and the wooden guides with foam insulation. Sauna door handles should only be made of wood, other materials can cause burns, as the sauna temperature is more than 100 degrees. As for glass inserts, for better operation of such a door, the glass is sealed with silicone sealant. So it will vibrate less and last longer.

The traditional material for a bath is wood, but this does not mean at all that other materials cannot be used. It is very possible if they are not inferior or superior to wood in their characteristics. A fairly striking example of a worthy replacement are glass doors for a bath or sauna. When using glass doors in the steam room, there are practically no negative sides.

There are three main disadvantages:

  • Big price (it is justified).
  • Thermal conductivity is higher than that of wood, but special doors for baths and saunas use tempered glass, which not only tolerates high temperatures, but also has a reduced thermal conductivity. It is impossible to get burned by touching such doors.
  • Fragility. This problem is partially solved by hardening: treated glass is not so fragile, and when broken, it breaks up into many fragments without sharp edges. Also, to increase the strength in the manufacture of glass doors to the bath, glass with a thickness of at least 8 mm is used. Both hardening and thickness affect the cost, because good glass doors cost a lot, but they are not easy to break.

Glass doors to the steam room with a pattern

This, perhaps, is all the shortcomings. But there are plenty of pluses:

  • Through the glass door you can see people in the steam room. From the point of view of safety, this is wonderful: you can come to the rescue in a timely manner if you suddenly become ill.
  • In the steam room it becomes lighter and this light is dim, diffused, pleasing to the eye and conducive to relaxation.
  • The service life of a glass door to a tempered glass bath is practically unlimited, unless it is broken.
  • Washing glass doors in a bath is much easier than wooden ones. Suitable for any detergent.
  • The glass doors in the steam room are not threatened; on the timely cleaned glass surface, they simply have nowhere to breed.
  • The absence of deformation under any operating conditions: neither temperature, nor humidity, nor their changes and differences in any way affect the dimensions of the glass door leaf.
  • Modern glass doors for a sauna or a bath are beautiful.
Glass door for a bath

With all the advantages of glass doors, not everyone recommends installing them in a bath. They attribute this to the fact that it is important to keep steam in the steam room of the Russian bath. To do this, they make a high threshold - at least 10 cm, and a door leaf that fits snugly against the jamb. In a sauna, on the contrary, they often make a gap under the door leaf to ensure air flow. Therefore, glass doors can be safely installed in the sauna.

For lovers of high quality, we can recommend the products of the Finnish company Harvia. We have already told before, but in addition to stoves, the company produces a wide range of glass doors for saunas and baths.

After reading the reviews of those who have a glass door installed in a Russian bath, they concluded: it is also possible to put glass doors in a bath. And it doesn't hurt to keep steam. The doors should open outward “from the steam room” (to the right or left side - as convenient), and you can install them so that it is possible to fill the threshold from the side of the steam room, which perfectly retains all the moisture inside. Good glass doors are made in such a way that they practically do not let steam in at the points of contact with the box (the kit comes with a seal that is inserted into the box). So they put a glass door in the bath and do not complain.

According to the bath attendants, someone uses a glass door to determine the humidity in the steam room - they say it “works” no worse than a hygrometer, someone is pleased with the ease of care, but everyone unanimously claims that they do not regret it. And the main advantage of a glass door to a Russian bath is that it does not react to changes in humidity: it does not swell or shrink, because any wooden door either swells or dries out. Because of this, it is either difficult to open / close, which is not good, or large gaps appear through which the same steam escapes and heat losses increase. Everyone who has installed glass doors in their bathhouse or sauna unequivocally advises, in addition to the quality of glass, to pay attention to fittings.

When choosing a glass door to a bathhouse or sauna, try to find a model with three or more awnings. The thickness of the glass for the door to the sauna or bath should be at least 7 mm, and such a monolith weighs a lot. And two loops often do not withstand, break. Even if there are two holders, pay attention to the fact that it is possible to replace them or install additional ones. Hinges for a glass door to a sauna must be made of stainless steel or any material that is not subject to corrosion.

It is worth paying attention to the latch. Less expensive glass sauna doors often have a ball latch. The disadvantage of ball latches is that they often jam and can deliver unpleasant moments at the most inopportune moment (you were about to jump out of the steam room and knock over yourself, but the door does not open). The most ideal option for a steam room door is magnetic latches of three or four elements. They are always operational.

Handles also belong to the door fittings. Wooden handles are usually installed on glass doors to a sauna or bath. When buying, pay attention that they are comfortable and located at the right height. For greater comfort and reliability, special silicone gaskets are often placed between the handles and the glass door leaf - not at all an extra precaution.

Installation of a glass door in a sauna or a bath

There is one fundamental difference in installing a door in a sauna or bath:

in the sauna there is no threshold in the steam room, and the gap between the door leaf and the floor does not close. In the bath, the threshold is desirable - it will allow you to keep moisture in the steam room. This should be taken into account when choosing a glass door and determining its size.

Sauna glass doors can have a metal or wooden frame. A steel box is installed before finishing the walls, a wooden one after. This is their main difference.

If you decide to install it yourself, you will need an assistant - the canvas weighs a lot (a square meter of 7 mm thick canvas is about 25 kilograms) and it will be difficult to keep it alone without installation experience.

Advice: when disassembling the packaging, put wooden planks next to it: it is convenient to lay a glass sheet on them and then you will not need to solve the problem of how to lift it from the floor.

In order to detach the glass from the frame, you need to loosen the fixing screws on the hinges and bend their opposite side. After that, the glass can be lifted and laid on wooden slats.

When installing, you can change the direction of opening the door - to the left or right - by changing the installation location of the jamb. Having chosen the direction of opening the door, install the box in the opening. Use wedges to secure. Be sure to check the verticality of the installation. It depends on how easy it will be to open / close the door and how long it will last.

Having exposed, slightly wrap the screws at the top of the box on the side where the hinges are located and check the verticality again. Repeat the procedure with the fasteners of the other side. Having finally exposed the box, tighten the screws as tightly as possible. The box is installed.

The next step is to install the glass. It must be inserted into the loops and tightened. At this stage, an assistant is simply necessary: one holds the glass, the other tightens the mount.

It is easy to check whether the door is correctly installed or not: you need to close the doors and check the gaps. If everything is done correctly, the gaps are the same, and the canvas fits snugly against the seal. Now you can install the latch and handle. Installation of a glass door in a sauna or a bath is completed.

Having some skill, it will not be difficult to install doors, otherwise it is better to entrust the installation of a glass door to professionals: buying a new one will be much more expensive ...

A professional is able to install a glass door alone. The video below shows an older Finn installing a sauna door.

You can put glass doors not only in the bath or sauna. They will perfectly "fit" into: modern technologies allow you to apply a variety of drawings of varying complexity and subject matter. The rules for choosing a glass door and installing it in a hammam are no different.

Advice: in the steam room it is better to put either a frosted glass door or with a pattern. There were cases when they simply didn’t notice the transparent one and “opened” it with their head 🙂

In written and online sources, saunas are classified as a separate subspecies of baths. The opinion is being promoted that the fundamental difference between the sauna and the Russian and Turkish baths is “dry” steam.

Figures are given to confirm the "features" of the Finnish sauna:

  • The sauna is characterized by low humidity (5-10%) and high room temperature (from seventy to almost one hundred degrees).
  • The Russian bath offers balanced humidity (20 to 65 percent) and temperature (50 to 90 degrees).
  • Hamam is the record holder for humidity (from eighty to almost one hundred percent) at a low temperature of forty-forty-five degrees.

Guests of Finland, when visiting native baths (and there are really many of them in a cold, damp country), are very surprised. Saunas are almost no different from the classic Russian bath. Finns also use brooms in steam rooms. The only significant difference between the Finnish and Russian baths is in the method of steam preparation:

  • "Russian" steam and heat are "delivered" by a thoroughly heated sauna stove. They lay it in such a way (unlike the classic Russian hut stove) that almost all the heat is stored inside the stove. Moreover, it is heated in the waiting room, and then all the accumulated heat gives off steam.
  • For a Finnish bath (“sauna” is just a “bath” in Finnish), the temperature in the steam room is provided by stones heated on a fire (for lovers of modern technology - electric and infrared heaters). And the pairs of the Finns play a supporting role.

The Finnish bath is a prefabricated "ersatz" Russian, where instead of a stove they use a compact and mobile substitute. He gives less steam than an oven. And its temperature is not so high. But it is definitely present.

The fairy tale about the "sauna" with dry steam was invented by manufacturers and suppliers of electric heaters (compact heaters). The first primitive designs did not allow splashing water on them. Hence the high temperatures and low humidity. But such a "sauna" could be built in almost any room (if only the wiring could withstand).

It is these “real Finnish saunas” that are now actively promoted around the world. Although the Finns themselves have not heard of such "innovations". Meanwhile, high temperature with low humidity in such "saunas" strongly "hit" the skin, especially for women, being an anti-cosmetic procedure.

Transparent doors for saunas

To install a glass door to the sauna, marketers and advertisers, who invented a bath without steam, “push” us in every possible way. However, as it turned out, frosted glass instead of the traditional wooden structure works well in a real sauna with steam. Also suitable for baths. Although installing a glass door in the steam room of a Russian bath is not so profitable. Such a design will fog up and “cry” too much. For a classic steam room, ordinary wooden doors with glass are suitable.

If you choose wooden or glass sauna doors, evaluate their pros and cons first.

Glass door advantages

  1. Glass, unlike wood, does not dampen or dry out.
  2. If you have a glass door, you do not need a light source in the steam room. It will be enough to illuminate the dressing room.
  3. Glass is easier to care for than wood.

Disadvantages of glass construction

  1. A quality glass door usually costs more than a wooden one.
  2. High thermal conductivity compared to wood. Thanks to the invention of glass films that reduce this indicator, a controversial drawback.
  3. Fragility. Typical for inexpensive solutions. For saunas, it is recommended to use thick tempered glass. Again, there are special "armored" films that increase the strength of the glass.
  4. Transparency. Doors with transparent glass suit not all sauna visitors. However, if you are a fan of the “correct” sauna with steam, then the glass will very quickly become opaque due to fogging.
Today, there are many self-adhesive films that allow you to independently tint glass, even with a stained glass window, even with a pattern. Glass saunas are made faster and cheaper with film than with labor-intensive and costly processing. Therefore, tinting glass doors with special films is used more and more often today.

Advertising and reality for glass doors

Recently, advertising has been intensively “promoting” glass sliding structures for saunas. Manufacturers claim that such a model saves heat better and is easier to install. But according to the safety rules, rooms with a high temperature (and especially saunas and baths) should be equipped with doors that ensure quick evacuation. Under such requirements, only swing doors opening into the dressing room are suitable. All other structures pose a potential danger to the life of sauna visitors. The fact is that when a person becomes ill from overheating, he does not lose consciousness immediately, but every second is important for leaving the hot zone. Often it is enough to run out into the waiting room for the dizziness and palpitations to stop. So the installation of the sauna should be simple and safe.

Installation of glass doors

A tempered glass door structure costs about five to six thousand rubles. And the sauna will cost from two to three thousand. So it makes sense to do it yourself when installing glass new clothes. Moreover, the sauna is not so difficult.

Technically, such an operation is no different from, however, it has a number of specific features:

  • When installing, you should not save on gasket materials (thick cardboard, wooden slats, and so on). The fact is that tempered glass is sensitive to shock.
  • Chips or cracks may form on edges with floors or walls. Therefore, in advance, use masking tape to protect the door.
  • For the same reason, it is advisable to install doors with an assistant.

Do-it-yourself glass door installation will require the following tools and materials:

  • building level;
  • electric drill;
  • wedges made of wood;
  • masking tape;
  • roulette.

Mounting the door supplied with the door frame

Since the frame and door are made to fit the size of the opening, no adjustments to the new design are usually required.

Before starting work, it is advisable to paste over the edges of the door with masking tape to protect it from possible damage.

All must be made of stainless steel (excluding wooden parts)

  • We install the door frame in the opening, having previously dismantled it. Do not forget to remove the so-called technological bar from the box (bottom side of the box). It is needed to ensure the rigidity of the entire structure during transportation. But during installation, it is not needed, since the doors to the steam room and sauna should not have a threshold.
  • We fix the box in the opening with wooden wedges. Align it using the building level.
  • We fix the box in the opening with screws. We put decorative caps that cover the heads of the bolts.
  • We hang the door leaf on the sauna, not forgetting to use gaskets.
  • The handle for the door to the sauna is installed.
  • A magnetic latch for a glass door to a sauna is used when it is necessary to fix the closed position.

Mounting the door supplied separately

  • Fittings for glass doors to the sauna must be removed from the door leaf before installation.
  • We are preparing wooden supports and gaskets for installing the door leaf. The supports should provide a gap between the floor and the door of 100-200 millimeters. Gaskets should provide a gap between the frame (right, left side and ceiling) and the door of the order of 10 millimeters.
  • It is advisable to make gaskets for safety with stops (to prevent accidental loss of glass from the box), and then temporarily fasten them to the door frame with small screws (if you install the door without an assistant).
  • Using wedges, align the door in the frame so as to provide the necessary clearances.
  • We bait the door hinges and mark the places for installation on the box
  • Remove the hinges, screw them to the door frame
  • We install the door in the hinges using gaskets. We mount the handle and magnetic latches (if necessary).

Film abundance and its use

Films for glass are:

  • Protective. Their strength is such that glass covered with such a film cannot be broken with a hammer.
  • Thermal. After sticking such a film on glass, the glass almost ceases to conduct heat (up to 80% of thermal energy is retained).
  • Mirror (architectural). After gluing such a film, sauna visitors will see everything in the dressing room, but it will be impossible to see them (especially if the light is turned on near the entrance to the steam room) - the door will seem like a huge mirror.
  • Decorative. They allow you to imitate stained-glass windows, etching, matting, hand-drawn paintings and other beautiful exotics on glass.

It is easy to use self-adhesive opaque films - it is enough to accurately cut the workpiece to fit the glass, separate the base layer and gradually apply the film to the glass, gently smoothing it.

The situation is more complicated with films on a transparent basis. First of all, due to the increased requirements for the cleanliness of glass, the surrounding space and the hands of the installer. The fact is that the imperceptible speck remaining on the glass or film becomes visible after installation. And you can't delete it anymore.

Secondly, because of the need to use special tools. Their presence facilitates installation:

  • A squeegee (sometimes also called a squeegee) is best purchased at the same place where the film is sold.
  • Window cleaner. Allows you to quickly wash the glass. It is advisable to buy not a plastic "disposable" product, but a metal professional one.
  • Spray gun for spraying cleaning solution on glass and film.
  • Sharp stationery knife with replaceable blades.
  • Soap solution. A few drops of a neutral shampoo are sufficient per liter of water (preferably soft filtered or distilled water).

Procedure for pasting a sauna door with a transparent film

  1. Before starting pasting, carry out a wet cleaning in the dressing room and wash the glass door.
  2. We mark the material according to the size of the door, depending on the design of pasting. Be sure to cut the material with an allowance of two to three centimeters.
  3. We spray the glass door with soapy water from a spray bottle.
  4. Wet the film on both sides with soapy water to remove dust from it. Remove the protective layer from the film (it is better to do the operation with an assistant) and wet the adhesive surface.
  5. We glue the film on the glass and smooth it, simultaneously removing air bubbles from under the film.
  6. With a squeegee, we smooth the surface of the film several times, removing the soap solution.
  7. Cut off the excess film with a knife.

The film dries in 2-3 days. After that, the sauna glass door is ready for use.

For the complete arrangement of the bath, only the doors are not enough? Can't choose the right option for a long time? A popular solution is glass doors for a bath. This is a novelty in the construction market, but despite this, glass doors have earned great popularity.

When arranging a bath, doors are a very important aspect. At the same time, it does not matter at all how the bath itself will be arranged. It can be a hammam, a traditional Russian bath, or maybe a sauna. To equip any bath, it will be necessary to take care of at least two doors. One of them will serve as an entrance, and the second will be installed in the steam room.

If there are several rooms in the room, then more doors will be needed. In modern stores for premises of this kind, three types of doors are offered. It can be a glass door, a wooden one, as well as a combined model. It combines glass and wood.

What is the popularity of glass doors

Glass door panels are more common in Finnish baths and saunas. The prices for these designs are quite high, but it depends on the quality of workmanship and materials. Naturally, wooden products have more affordable prices, but heavy-duty tempered glass has more significant characteristics. It is almost impossible to make a glass door on your own, but it’s definitely not worth saving on glass bath doors. Ordinary glass in this case simply will not work. When exposed to high temperatures, it will crack after the first bath session.

Particularly popular are all-glass products made from special tempered glass.

Advantages of glass door designs

Most people are sure that glass door structures are often installed in saunas. And wooden doors or combined models can be found mainly in Russian baths.

It is a myth. And it has practically nothing to do with reality. Glass doors perfectly perform their functions in baths of any type, and in saunas. The glass model allows you to visually expand the space of the room. With such doors, it becomes more comfortable to be in the bath, the room acquires a more finished and modern, rather even technological look.

This is not the whole list of advantages that glass doors to the bath have. It is no secret that an all-glass door is more durable than wooden structures. If there are any doubts about this, then it is worth discarding them. When it is necessary to install a door structure that will properly perform its functions and solve certain problems for decades, then this is a very right choice.

A glass door, no matter what tasks it is installed for - for a bath, sauna or just for a bathroom - can be that ideal choice. Glass differs from wood in that it does not absorb moisture in any way and does not change its geometry. Also, glass models do not evaporate any harmful emissions into the atmosphere, which door systems made of other materials cannot boast of. Such a glass construction will in no way harm the health of those who will regularly use the bath or sauna.

If you give preference to a glass door, which will be installed in the bath or in the sauna, then this option will visually increase the space. In addition, another advantage is a fairly simple maintenance. To clean the glass sheet, simply wipe the surface of the glass with a sponge and detergent. This procedure does not take much time and does not require significant effort.

Production technology

The manufacture of glass door systems began in the last century. But time is relentlessly moving forward, the growth of technology is now very rapid. Production is constantly undergoing some kind of qualitative changes. Today, the most advanced technologies, the best and high-quality materials are used for the production of glass doors for a bath. The latest production techniques allow you to create strong and durable structures, the appearance of which impresses with its unique design.

Today, for the production of doors, the glass is very strongly heated and then cooled. In order to cool the glass sheet to operating temperatures, air blowing technology is used. After this procedure, specialists and engineers receive a very durable, high-quality material that is resistant to any mechanical stress.

In addition, such heating and cooling makes the glass sheet as heat-resistant as possible. This is very important, because they will be operated in a special microclimate. And to break such a door made of tempered glass using the latest technology, you will need to make every effort. However, even if you still succeed in breaking the canvas, you will not get hurt from the fragments either. The glass will simply crumble into small, but very blunt fragments. Ordinary glass in this case crumbles into huge and extremely sharp pieces.

The modern construction market offers both matte and transparent canvases. What to choose is a personal matter for everyone who decides to equip a bath or sauna. The thickness of the web is 8 mm or more.

Some believe that the transparency of the glass doors to the bath can cause some discomfort. However, it is the transparency in the bath that is very useful. Often such door panels are ordered by those people who have children. Glass is also installed by those who have elderly relatives. They need supervision, and in the case of a transparent door structure, it is very easy to look after through the transparent door leaf. In addition to frosted glass, the door can also have a sandblasted pattern.

Rooms with high humidity are the best place for the development of colonies of a wide variety of microorganisms and bacteria that are by no means beneficial to humans. In the case of wooden structures, this can be harmful to humans. Glass doors do not perceive any harmful microorganisms.

Yes, a glass door has many advantages. However, there are also drawbacks to the glass door to the bathhouse.

Disadvantages of glass doors

The first of the disadvantages is the high cost. The price of a quality, good door can cost a serious amount. However, it is worth considering the high cost as an investment in the future. The door will serve for decades with simple care.

The second disadvantage is the thermal conductivity characteristics. In wood, everything is much better in this regard, but in glass, things are not very good with this. But, despite this, glass structures are still better than wooden ones.

How to prepare the door for installation

In order for the installation process to be successful, and as a result a reliable design is obtained, several important points must be foreseen.

So, it is very important to make the most accurate measurements. It should be noted that a fully finished product, which is based on a solid tempered glass sheet, cannot be fixed, unlike a wooden one. Therefore, measurements should be carried out with all possible care. If the door to the steam room is being equipped, then it is necessary to take into account the gap under the door with a size of about 5 mm.

It is necessary to carefully prepare in advance the place where the finished door will then be installed. Ideally, if the canvas and accessories are mounted in a ready-made box or walls. In addition, it is important to decide in which direction the door to the steam room will open - to the right or to the left. At the same time, do not forget that no matter which option is chosen, the door should always open outwards. This action will help determine where to install the door jamb.

Be sure to install the glass door to the bath with an assistant. Glass products that are designed for installation in a steam room can be quite heavy. It is simply impossible to do without outside help. The tempered glass sheet has a thickness of 8 mm, however, it is still glass, therefore, during installation, maximum care and accuracy should be exercised so as not to harm the integrity of the sheet.

Requirements for fittings for glass doors

As for the requirements for fittings and accessories, they are the same as for wooden doors. Accessories should be as resistant to moisture as possible, and not overheat from external influences. It is also very important for accessories to use the product as comfortably as possible.

The requirements that apply to the aesthetics of glass sauna doors are also of significant importance. That is why, before installing the doors to the bath, you should choose aesthetic fittings. Priority will be given to products made of materials with high anti-corrosion characteristics. If wood is used, it is better to choose hardwood. Such wood will be able to withstand the heavy weight of the glass sheet.

Installation work

Installation of glass doors in the bath is quite simple. If you install the installation of the door with your own hands, then you can significantly save on the services of professionals. However, it is still better to take the help of an experienced person.

Door frame features

Glass door leafs are often sold already complete with a wooden box, which is made of hardwood. This wood does not emit resin when exposed to high temperatures. The box should be carefully examined for various knots and other defects. For durability, it should be treated with a special varnish, which will not only give better additional moisture resistance characteristics, but also significantly improve the aesthetic appearance.

Guides

Two rails are required for installation. The second guide will be installed from below. The principle of opening can be both hinged and sliding. These doors must open outwards. On the path along which the doors are to be opened or moved apart, there should be no obstacles. If the base is made of wood, it is recommended to use self-tapping screws for mounting the rails. Dowels are recommended for a brick or concrete wall.

The installation process is no different from installing interior doors. But it is necessary to remember the maximum gap of 5 mm. One of the most important functions for a sauna door is maintaining the temperature. The structure must be carefully sealed around the perimeter. This problem can be easily solved with a silicone seal. It will not only help save precious heat, but will also be able to protect the space between the canvas and the door jamb from a draft.

To protect the glass edges from various impacts, experts recommend choosing high-quality, suitable planks made of wood and fixing them to the glass with self-tapping screws. So you can save the edges and secure the operation of the door.

Since ancient times, wood has been considered the traditional material for the bath room. Thus, its heat resistance increases, and safety during operation is also ensured. Note that tempered glass for a bath does not provide a person with any danger even in a broken state, since the fragments crumble with obtuse corners, unlike ordinary glass. Tempered glass color - bronze. You should also not forget that such doors practically do not let air through, which is why it becomes necessary to leave a gap directly between the flooring and the sash. In order to ensure good thermal insulation, it is recommended to use a seal around the perimeter of the door frame.

In addition, the latch mechanism is also an important point in this case. The most acceptable option is the use of a magnetic type mechanism, since it is he who never sticks and ensures the smooth operation of the structure.

Important! It is recommended to give preference exclusively to tinted glass or with a pattern. Do not buy pure white material, since it is the presence of a pattern or shading that will avoid a collision with a glass door.

As a rule, the arrangement of the door frame occurs with the use of aluminum, which is distinguished by its practicality and ease of installation. However, there may be options from glued profiled aspen. In order to increase the level of moisture resistance, it must first be impregnated, and then varnished . This option is also not bad, but it is recommended to give preference to metal, since an aluminum box is much more durable and reliable.
